An overwhelming majority of comp players are kids. It's easier to understand the behavior with that context. Adults generally don't have the time to put into DbD to get to that level. It takes an unholy amount of hours just to make it out of round 1 consistently in major tournaments. The Knightlights of the world are generally putting in 50+ hours per week in game.

    For sure.

If I were any older, no way could I have put in the time I have. Nor gotten to the skill level I'm at.

Definitely makes it seem less serious if you contextualize it as a couple of kids

Bot replacement would be great, but BHVR have said they have no intention of putting the bots in the live matches. This was their response, I believe, to the exact suggestion you made.

Earlier today I gave my suggestion for increasing the punishment in the other thread complaining about not being able to DC. I think they should be more strict. MUCH more strict. It is too small a punishment at the moment and the players that don't mind taking a short bathroom break or using their blood are exploiting the generosity BHVR has given them.

Someone said we should hardware ban people who DC in one of those threads.

Ultimately, punishments are only covering up the root issue.

I’ve only tried the bots a few times so this is far from extensive experience. Twice during a match the bots would continuously walk into walls instead of vaulting. Then again, some would argue that’s still leaps and bounds above some actual players.

And those people would be making an excellent point.

######### no the penalty has to stay everybody knows that the bots in dbd are stupid

The bots are actually pretty decent, considering the kind of quality features BHVR usually puts out, they're really good.

Obviously, there would need to be improvements but it's certainly the best system available. Improve the bots and add Killer bots

No, definitely actual comp players, from...uh, let's say somewhere in Europe. Links to their team and footage in their profiles, as I saw post game. Probably can't get more specific as I've gotten into hot water with the mods before on this.

It wasn't the most miserable game I've ever had, and had some absolutely hilarious games today too - just finished up one on Pig where I got a ton of use out of snowmen XD.

This was probably an MMR fart, but with how they acted it also felt like it could be a smurf squad.

Could be a smurf squad but it's more likely MMR just didn't work. Some people are ######### and personally, ya know, I think they should be called out on it publicly but I can't change the rules here unfortunately.

  • I've had people lie about being in comp.

Not saying that's what happened here, but it's possible.

MMR probably just ######### up and put you in a match you shouldn't have been in, pair that with serious Survivors and a non-serious Killer and you have a recipe for a miserable experience.

  • Replace them with bots and then remove the penalty.

Keeps everyone happy. Nobody has to play a game they aren't enjoying, Killers don't lose BP and Survivors don't instantly lose. Oh, but people who play in a toxic way looking for reactions get cucked.

  • I know, I was being facetious.

Even the 6k+ hour streamers do this now from time to time, just to keep up.

If survivors rush gens, killers rush kills.

So even people who play this game for a living, who play against other people with enormous amounts of time sunk into DBD, don't always need to tunnel?

Well, thank you for agreeing with me!

Again, I'd be curious on the numbers, but it would surprise me if it was more than 200.

There's more than two hundred on Xbox alone. I can tell you that for certain.

I CONSISTENTLY see people with hour counts much higher than mine on Xbox.

Even looking on DBD Playerstats (which is only for Steam and only public profiles) the page timed out before I was able to get to 3K hours. It stopped at 3000 something accounts and it was at 4500 hours.

    So, I guess, surprise?

  • @StarLost said:

Yup. But there are also pretty frequent events that basically vomit shards at you. I know that I've spent...maybe $130 on this game since I bought it, and I have all the licensed killers and a bunch of fun skins.

In that, I think the only non-licensed killers I bought were Knight (more fool me, but I wanted Fogwise and NTH) and Blight way back when.

I've also bought a lot from the shrine over the years.

I can't account for events. New players aren't gonna stick around 6 months for those either.

I think I've spent a total of $60 on the game. 40 to buy it, I think and 20 for Steve skins. Everything else has been gifted to me.

The more the years go on, the more DBD's model seems like a F2P game.

Maybe? But that's a point where you've essentially mastered this game. 3,500 hours...that's enough to master a lot of things.

At that point, yes - it's really about who makes a mistake first. But this is not representative of the vast, vast majority of players or gameplay. I'd love to see numbers on this, actually - how many people are at the 3000+ hour mark when compared to everyone else.

At this point, 6 nearly 7 years into the game?

    Probably more than you'd think.

  • @StarLost said:

It's not great, but it's also not terrible - especially compared to what it once was.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/359150/the-perk-system-is-absolutely-terrible-and-valve-figured-this-out-years-ago

    Eh...your numbers seem off.

I leveled Vito during the event, and it took me less than a day. P2. Granted, that was with the event bonus, but there's an event running at most times. P1 is...what? A million BP? And you've got some pretty solid base perks on both sides now too, plus the perks of whoever you are playing.

The answer is to make more terrible perks better.

Here's the other thing - yes, some licensed characters are only available for real $. But you don't need their perks to be viable. This is honestly the first time I can remember in ages where the top meta perk for killer is licensed. Before that, it was Ruin+Undying or PR+DMS.

The only sore spot for a lot of people was BBQ.

    • DS was in the shrine constantly though.
    • New players (those grinding up) don't need to be running full meta load-outs. Because their opponents won't be either.
    • Perks pop up in the shrine all the time. I recently snagged one of the few licensed survivor perks I needed from the shrine.
    • A killer/survivor pack costs less than the price of a hamburger and fries. This isn't a loot box situation, you can basically buy them if you need to.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3302622#Comment_3302622

You're exaggerating mate. I've just passed 1000 hours, and I've had all killer perks unlocked and most of the survivor perks I wanted for a while now. For just the perks you want...maybe a few hundred? That was under the old system too. And that's with a lot of different combinations.

$100...yeah, I guess if you're buying every bit of DLC - but one or two packs should cover you for the essentials, if you want to go that route. But chasing meta forever is pointless, because it can turn on a dime.

The general Shard rate is usually about 300 per hour of gameplay.

  • If you spend no Shards on anything and have perfect Shard games (ie, you don't get tunneled out or camped) it would be a MINIMUM of over 700 hours.

Adding in, ya know, realistic scenarios would push this much closer to 1000 just to UNLOCK those characters, let alone actually getting their perks, which adds another grind on top of it.

  • @ByeByeQ said:

It makes me wonder how many players try DbD, realize how bad the grind is and leave never to return.

Pretty much why none of my friends will touch DBD.

They have a 1,000 hour grind to get the perks they want ahead of them. Or like $100.

Nurse is fine, I've defeated dozens of nurses. It takes a lot of practice and skill to use nurse, to disable nurse or nerf her further would make all that a waste. People should look up videos on how to deal with nurse, she's not that good to be honest if you know how to evade her blinks.

    "she's not that good"

    ok

-"I've got about 3.5K hours, mostly into Killer. I can win consistently against people with 10K hours. Now, hours don't necessarily equate to skill"

Do you play Doctor, Clown (wthout pinky), wraith, Trapper Pig and MM (no purple tombstone/ infinite t3)? Or do you just play Nurse and Blight?

You need to be careful with statements like that. It's very clear as a generalization that 1 hour < 50 hours < 500 hours < 1500 hours < 5000 hours.

Once a player gets to 2000-000 hours it kinda becomes true. If the player in question watches a lot of streams they will play way beyond their hour count because they can pick up traits that a 9k hour player learned without spending 9k hours.

The other issue is: can the player play killer and survivor? Survivor mains often just don't even know what options a killer has for addons.

Back in 2018 or so I had friends that could loop literally for 2 mintues at a time. But they were powerless against Nurse. I was able to make Nurse mains drop chase over and over again and they didn't understand why. It was because I know how to play Nurse and know her limits. Also I ran spinechill before it was meta because I knew from a discussion with Horvath that it gave 6% to vault speed. SC also let you know instantly if a nurse had the right blink angle or not.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3302162#Comment_3302162

My region is almost always 100% killer bonus after the sun goes down until a few hours before sunrise. I haven't really counted as an average but most of the time it's enough to buy two to five items in a blood web.

As I have said before 90% of my lobbies are 2x 2 man SWF, 3x SWf or 4x SWF. I will only ever play a 3 or 4 man group if they : do not have lots of items, do not stack offerings and do not pick a map (unless ithey do something dumb like pick PH map or The Game when I am playing a killer with an ability to negate pallets).

I play Wraith frequently, Doctor semi-frequently and Clown irregularly.

I used to main Blight, but Console Blight was hard. I actually play a lot of Knight and Wesker but I generally rotate through the Killer cast.

Hours don't necessarily correlate to skill. I'll stick by that statement. I suppose I don't really understand what you're trying to say in this first part.

So, roughly 30 seconds or less of queue time. You selectively pick lobbies? Intriguing. Likewise, how do you know people are SWF? Do you check their profiles?

Likewise, if your queues are that short, I have bad news for your narrative. You aren't playing against top MMR players every match. Your queues would be FAR longer, we're talking 15+ minutes. There aren't enough high MMR players to allow queue times to be that short every match, like you claim. Either you're mistaken about your queue times or you're mistaken about the skill of your opponents. I hate to be the person to break it to you but you might need to re-evaluate and start from scratch.

    "strawman lol"

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/XHFBP2J51L4K/image.png

Most people who use that word are parrots. As such I have posted a related image.

"-Trying to get value of prove thyself early in the match is a bad macro play from the survivors and will set yourself to fail."

This is extremely false. The better killers like Nurse and Blight can down stupidly fast. You can't finish a solo gen in that time. Two players can however break a 3 gen before it happens.

"i was actually petty enough that i went and counted his W/Ls on his last stream."

I see you fell prey to the Howard Stern effect. Most people want to mention Otz's stream but to be honest the people I see in Otz's stream for the most part were players of a caliber I stopped seeing the second we had MMR turned on. This was incredibly clear when you watch his version of the 30 second afk challenge and True doing the same thing. The survivors absolutely threw about seven or eight games vs Otz and only one game vs True.

The average player does not win well against people who play DBD professionaly as their job. Your tally of his winrate is meaningless. How many games did he play that stream against a stacked 4 man team who all used the same offerings, picked a map and had 2x iri item addons + meta perks? How did that game go?

How long are your Killer Queues?

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3302123#Comment_3302123

    Everyone makes mistakes, sure.

The question is - are those mistakes that can turn the game around? That's a lot less common and extremely contextual.

    • Can you punish it?
    • Will punishing it have a large impact on the game?

My point is that skill is relative. If I was put up against 4x 200 hour survivors, they'd probably lose no matter what map they got, perks they ran or killer I was on.

If those same survivors faced a 50 hour killer, that killer would probably get stomped.

    It's very tricky.

There is a certain point where the hour difference isn't impactful anymore.

Like for instance, myself. I've got about 3.5K hours, mostly into Killer. I can win consistently against people with 10K hours. Now, hours don't necessarily equate to skill, but these guys do have the most escapes on Xbox and the other instance I'm thinking of was against Tofu.

And likewise, to your point about mistakes. Most of them can and will turn the game, especially at higher levels of play. Healing when you shouldn't have is a big one.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3301180#Comment_3301180

    This, pretty much.

I try not to tunnel unless it's coming down to the wire, but I can conclusively say that it's lost me a lot of games that I could have won, had I focused someone a bit more aggressively.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3301412#Comment_3301412

Eh...it doesn't need to be every match. There's no way to know what sort of survivors you're facing until you've already lost. What I try to do is go in expecting every group to be insanely good, and then dial it back if need be.

Because - if it's a really good team, you're going to need to get someone out ASAP. Watching the recent Cup games, killers tactically camped, slugged and tunneled a fair amount - and they still had a hell of a time of it.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3301413#Comment_3301413

BBQ was so damn great in that it encouraged a healthy killer playstyle - until you got that one butt who would DC specifically to deny you a stack, or simply couldn't find that Feng all game.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3301409#Comment_3301409

Here's the thing though. They don't need to be experts. They just need to be people at your MMR solo, but now in a SWF with a nasty map offering and stacked perks. That will already turn a 'fair' game into a brutal slog that you'll be lucky to get 1k from, unless they make a serious mistake.

Average (ie, 95% of players) make mistakes. Punish them accordingly.

The Cup games are also legitimate Competitive teams. You DO NOT find those teams out and about. Most of them do not play pubs.

Likewise, that wasn't their assertion. They said that they only played against professionals. Quite simply, they're lying.

Survivors have been win-shaming Killers for years, man.

Don't tunnel, camp, or slug. Don't use 'crutch perks' like NoED (It somehow gives mythical 'free kills' and is somehow magically uncleansable and uncounterable). Don't use 'Crutch Killers' either. Or 'OP' addons. There's a list of Survivor Approved Killers and Addons, but it's up to you to find it, and it can change hourly, or even based on the whims of who's in your lobby from one match to the next.

In short: Don't win if it makes the Survivor Overlords sad. And make sure you filled out your Permission To Hook form in triplicate before hooking anyone, because it might inconvenience them. And they can revoke that permission at any time without telling you, but they expect you to know if they did. 🙃

The fact that you actually think this is what people are saying is laughable.

    The Killer bias is incredible.

Dude, it was at 18% last I checked. That's perfectly in-line for what the 'meta' perks are.

Eruption is probably going to get gutted, because that does seem to be the pattern when it comes to killer perks (wish they made more of an effort to keep them viable, like Survivor perks - see Dead Hard versus Thana) but 18% is pretty meh.

I think it's over 20% on NightLight, which is entirely self-reported.

i highly doubt it tbh... skill aside, in certain maps even bad survivors can keep you easily busy without troubles (why learning to loop when you can literally press w shift and throwing down every pallet in the map and obtain the same effect after all?), skill isn't involved much in order to win as survivor (ESPECIALLY if you aren't play killers with some form of antiloop). You can try to "apply" pressure by constantly chasing, injuring and downing people, but if they still smash gens, you don't have chances unless you play in a certain way. I consider myself enough impartial despite being a killer main (this didn't stopped me to play survivor tho) and i see where things aren't fine at all... the problems of this game primarily lies on the mechanics that will gave an edge over your opponent (tunneling/camping for killers, genrushing bodyblocking for survivors), but on a point i think that we both can agree on it: those tactics will never be fixed properly because they choosed to kept those as basic mechanics

    I agree.

Choosing to keep tunneling/camping and slamming gens as mechanics was a poor decision.

They aren't really fun for anyone, don't promote skillful interaction and are genuinely boring to play against. Should've rebalanced core mechanics in order to stop these things.

But why do that when you can band-aid fix it and sell a perk.

  • @DBDVulture said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3300949#Comment_3300949

    Again see the flow chart.

Tunnel one person means I have an easy game and survivors are under stress. Why should I be the stressed out player?

Survs eliminate gens so I need to eliminate one of them with three hooks. I get NOTHING for hooking three people one time.

At low MMR you are 100% correct. But vs efficient teams it's just not possible to win on "meh killers".

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3300955#Comment_3300955

You're suggesting I throw the game on purpose so I get easy wins. No thanks. The game is not a fair contest vs SWF unless you are playing a very strong killer. The game is not fair if you are on a big map unless you are Nurse/Blight or a mobility killer.

The bottom line issue is that Nurse vs SWF is fair on any map. Clown vs SWF might be fair if he has pinky finger on a small map but even his best addon will not win on a large map. It's so dumb.

There is zero balance for high skill play.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3301159#Comment_3301159

So by extension you're saying Otz and Truetalent suck. When they are in the same situation they tunnel to win. But a 9k hour and 7k hour streamer suck because you said so - ok.

We could say anyone that needs to bring an item sucks. We could say anyone that need to pick a map sucks. We could say anyone that only wins in a 3 or 4 man SWF absolutely sucks.

Why shouldn't you be under stress?

That's the Killer role. You play against four and are outmatched at the beginning. It's your job to make sure the late-game favors you.

At average MMR that's how it is. Nobody plays against top level teams all the time.

You do what you have to in order to win. Nobody is telling you to not try. Generally though, people don't need to tunnel. You could focus on trying to improve other aspects of your game. But like I said in my original post, it's hard. It's much much easier to just tunnel out the weak link and like you said, far less stressful. I get it.

  • @DBDVulture said:

  • @Tostapane said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3300949#Comment_3300949

this is pure bs and every expert player will tell you otherwise... in order to win YOU HAVE TO TUNNEL AND CAMP, otherwise you'll struggle even with mediocre survivors that are still able to press m1 on gens. It's pure and simple logic: you can't be in 4 places at once as killer, and while you are chasing/searching for a survivor, the others have all the time needed to work on generators, meaning that 1simple chase can cost you easily 3 gen without even doing mistakes (add also perks, maps like garden of joy with the infinite present in the central building or the huge quantity of safe pallets present in the game for example and you'll have the general picture of dbd right now)

If you play against expert Survivors, sure, you need every advantage because they'll also play to their absolute best.

The simple fact of the matter is that most Survivors aren't good. If mediocre Survivors give you trouble, that's not necessarily on DBD, that might be on you. Obviously, yes, some maps aren't fair for you. Other maps aren't fair for Survivors. That's how it goes.

You don't need to be in four places at once as Killer. If you try to be, you'll lose. You aren't supposed to win at 5 gens. You need strategy and I think many Killers tend to forget that.

  • bro i'm gonna keep it real with you.

Maybe there are more in the new maps but I would never know, I just vault the window after them and that is that

Honestly, I find Mother's Dwelling spawns no windows pretty often now.

  • Considering your responses in this thread, I doubt you are actually looking for any reason and you'd rather hear other people agree with you.

However, I am relatively hopeful. The game is certainly in a much better spot than it was two years ago. The BP Grind has been reduced. Perks are easier to obtain. Borrowed Time is base-kit, which definitely helps Solo Q. The meta did change. DH was finally nerfed. Wesker released, who is a strong AND fun Killer who feels pretty fair (if too common) to play against. They tried something very ambitious with Knight. MMR is functionally back to the old Rank System.

All this to say I'm relatively hopeful that they'll add 60 FPS to Xbox One, PS4 and low-end PC's soon

    Ahem.

In the OP I asked for reasons to be optimistic. I want to be optimistic. I said in the OP I didn't want to talk about what's wrong with DbD, you had fair warning.

You rolled up in this thread, never answered the actual OP, are trying to derail the thread and then are telling me what "should not be allowed here."

    Get out.

    lmao

  • In order to unlock all Prestige (Bloody) Cosmetics for a character, you need to be Prestige 6.

    This goes for ALL characters

  • Hmmm, no.

The simple reality is that you DON'T need to tunnel in order to win the vast majority of your matches. It's simply easier to tunnel than it is to not tunnel. I get it, I do it too. That's one of the main reasons I push so hard against tunneling is because of how effective it is for me.

I like checking the Twitch vods just to see if they start giggling at my name.

I had one streamer who apparently really didn't like it and banned me for asking what was wrong with it.

I had someone ban me for saying GG, which to be fair, I deserved.

  • I haven't really noticed much as Killer.

Less gens getting done, that's for sure.

As Survivor, uh, that's also true.

How do you simultaneously pander to a specific audience while also managing to not do enough?

The definition of pandering is "to gratify or indulge", so they can't be both pandering and not doing enough simultaneously.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd suspect that they'd prefer BHVR go "all in" and make a new character part of the LGBTQ+ community, rather than reveal one of their pre-existing characters was LGBTQ+.

I truly don't know enough to have an educated opinion, but for what it's worth, to me it'd show they are willing to take a possible financial hit in order to further ally themselves with and show support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Either that or their Twitch literally doesnt exist. Sometimes people put TTV in their name but dont have a Twitch account at all.

Honestly, some TTVs are toxic, but I like to look at the VODs and see what areas I can improve at.

    I also enjoy doing that.

I like to see what they thought of my playstyle.

The greatest compliment I can get is, "What the ######### is he doing?! He's a ######### weirdo!"

    Gotta stay unpredictable.

Tbh I think it's a combination of her general "stats" being low and that at Higher MMR she can go toe to toe with the best Survivors....now that's no excuse but until a day other Killers can be powered up to be close to her level them sadly we need Nurse.

Reworking her is a no go as many Mods have said in the past and I agree....spending time changing her power to something else getting it tested.....adjusted and tested again, they could be fixing the bigger issues like Maps etc.

But that's my opinion and really there is no right answer to this Tennis match called Nurse Nerf....

And yet, Blight can also compete with the best Survivors.

In our opinion, there's no excuse for her to not be nerfed down to Blight's level. And even he needs some add-on adjustment, Compound Thirty-Three and Alchemist's Ring are FAR too powerful for a Killer like Blight to have access to.

  • I genuinely do not know why BHVR hasn't done anything about Nurse.

She's been the strongest Killer for, essentially, the game's entire lifespan and it still isn't really close.

  • @Sycamore said:

She's balanced. You just have to play differently against her than other killers. Try thinking outside of the box.

    Nurse is many things.

Balanced is not a word I would use.

  • I actually found it fairly entertaining. I like to see which teams I think I could beat.

Likewise, I like to steal some of the Killer players ideas, or maybe, improve on them.

It was far better than the last couple of tournaments they've run.

  • oh god i knew that sounded familar

gotta be one of THE takes of all time

  • Sorta.

Back when I played on Crossplay Off on Xbox One when MMR made matches take forever to find, there was a really small community of players at, what I can only assume was, top MMR.

It was me and maybe thirty others. We kinda hated each other because it is zero fun to play against people who know how to exploit every little thing the game has in order to win. However, it would take forever to find matches if we weren't on.

I think one of them said something like this, "We hate playing against you, but we can't find matches fast when you aren't on. We'd rather play against you than not at all, but we still hate you."

    The feeling was very mutual.
