How they get the IP of the two and you? I could see it being their previous killer but why did you get hit?
This is all hypothetical and based off of my own, likely incomplete, knowledge.
DBD used to run off of Peer-to-Peer connection. The Killer hosted the game and, for all intents and purposes, the Killer WAS the server. DBD switched to Dedicated Servers several years ago. Now, all players connect to the Server.
If there's a vulnerability in the Steam version of the game, you COULD use it to disrupt that lobby's connection to the server.

Why should someone who hasn’t put in the time to learn have the ability to beat someone who is far better? There is no motivation for killer if the game is balanced around mediocre players.
They shouldn't and they do not.
The issue, I think, you are describing comes down to DBD itself. DBD has a lot of very minor things that are difficult to learn and to pick up on after the MASSIVE initial learning curve is over. This means that the difference between a 500 hour player and a 1K hour player isn't all that much. However, the difference between a 100 hour player and a 500 hour player is gigantic.

Isn't the main issue with balancing at the top for dbd is killers need to camp and tunnel. Wouldn't the issue mostly be the strategy at the top levels are horrendously bad for the games health?
Close.
Why do Killers at the top level need to camp and tunnel?

All games balance around top level, welcome to every game.
Competitive FPS games do, sure. E-sport games do, sure.
If you balance around the top level of DBD, the game will die. Make no mistake.
Top level DBD is NOT fun and it will not be fun for the average player.

Fair question. I play both sides and find survivor so much easier and less stressful. To summarise. The amount of pallets, loops, and windows, alongside gen speed, healing in its current state, and perk choice, to me, means it isn't hard to play survivor well.
And the points above are conversely why killer is more difficult.
Easier to play and less stressful does not equate to being stronger.
From my own personal experience, the game is pretty heavily Killer-sided. Most players are completely unequipped to deal with what Killers can bring to the table. I think I'm averaging around an 85% Kill Rate.
For a less personal experience, look at the overall Kill Rates. The last stats we got showed that the Survival Rate was 39%. How could the game, itself, be overall Survivor-sided if Killers are doing so well overall?
I do think that at the very highest level, the game is still Survivor-sided. However, I'm extremely confident in saying that for new, casual and average players, the game is very much Killer-sided.

With these proposed changes. Hard to say without seeing it myself, but I'd say around moderately survivor sided, and today I'd say the game is between moderately and very survivor sided. Again, my experience and opinion. Be kind 😀
Why do you feel that way?

Balancing FOR the top levels is different than top-down balancing.

Ah yes let's consider the combos.
- Pain Res works once per player instead of ~8-12 times per game. That's something like a 50% nerf ; it's mathematically more but realistically do you really need to keep using PR after 6 hooks and 2 people are dead?
- Overcharge and CoB are 70-75% nerfed. There is no combo on perks that lost 70-75% effectiveness. Would anyone use an exhaustion perk if they were only giving 25% of the distance you get now?
- What you have left are "nasty" combos like Jolt and Oppression. Jolt is great if you keep downing the same player over and over again in the same spot and does nothing when people Shift+W. Jolt works great when you can down them and take off 8% progress and hook them for another 15% progress removed. Jolt is not going to do anything on its own - it never did. Many of the perks that are left are things like Oppression that nobody used anyway because it had no synergy. If you could combine Pop+ Oppression every 80 seconds then maybe that would make the long cooldown of Oppression and the nerfed state of Pop make sense. But there is no combo so it doesn't make any sense to use. There is of course Eruption but that perk already got nerfed because it used to take about 25% off a generator (considering you can't touch it during the timer) and now it just does 10% which is not worth a perk slot.
PGTW, Overcharge, CoB and Eruption.
Overcharge and CoB are still fine when used together. They have excellent synergy. PGTW eliminates the big weakness, which is the lack of short-term chunk regression. Overcharge prevents gen tapping and helps after CoB runs out. Eruption then slaps another 10% regression whenever you get a down.
I guarantee you will see people running this as they attempt to cling to the old meta.

Slightly Survivor-sided, moderately Survivor-sided or very Survivor-sided

I'm not ignoring them. I'm saying that taking all the changes into account, the game is still survivor sided. Just maybe slightly less so than before, but thats not a bad thing. As I said, the healing nerfs are a step in the right direction though.
Wait, how Survivor-sided do you think the game is?

Average-bad groups will always be a stomp. The only way to change that would be to significantly buff survivor, which would make the game unplayable against anyone decent.
That's blatantly untrue and we should not balance AROUND the top levels.

This was probably the worst PTB (at least in recent memory) I have played. There was maybe like 1 game that was longer than 10 min. 90% of the time people DC. Tryhard killers using the most unfun things possible, etc.
I don't know how reliable it is, but I've seen and heard from several people that the PTB has a lot of performance issues.
Some of those could be crashes. I don't know for sure though, BHVR hasn't let us console players use the ptb :(

You being on Xbox is weird and worrying. So far from what I've seen, most people have been able to avoid the DDOS issue by switching to Epic and using all of the available anonymous mode options.
I was pretty convinced it was a vulnerability somewhere in Steam that people were using to target individual players and matches, but that doesn't seem like the case here.
Unless maybe they targeted the server? But that usually involves a lot of rubber banding before you drop. Kinda hard to tell if that happens if you aren't in chase maybe.
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd bet on it being something with the server.
It must be something with the Steam version of DBD. It can't be Steam itself, otherwise there'd be a lot of reports of DDoSing from much bigger games than DBD.

Bad logic. Good survivors already gen rush. The healing changes will not change how these people play.
Precisely my point.
These changes will do nothing for me as an experienced Killer. They hinder me against good Survivors and only help me stomp casual players harder, something I did not need any assistance doing.
All this does is further alienate the casual playerbase and incentivizes gen rushing.

Sure, it's better than the current meta. It's a change. The only other choice is find a new game that isn't the same exact stale thing for over half a decade. Also I said I don't play killer, as the post says. Survivors made that too miserable in order to have their "fun" so I just play solo survivor. I just know how to adapt my playstyle. But screaming and crying seems to work far better.
I think you quoted the wrong post. That one wasn't aimed towards you.
-
Oh?
You enjoy getting gen rushed?
-
@SunsetSherbet said:
Plenty of people do. But like 80% of the playerbase is survivor mains, who obviously don't want sizable nerfs to themselves. So obviously, they will cry the loudest and the "majority" will be against it. But if you only listen to said majority in an asym game, you'll end up with one side being God mode and the other being unwinnable, because by design, there will always be more survivors.
I have seen very few killer players who are crying for this to go away. It's basically exclusively survivor players here. And the occasional "I totally play killer, believe me!" And like...otz and tofu. That's about it. I don't even play killer anymore and only solo queue, and I want this because after thousands of hours, things are stale and I want a sizable change that greatly shakes things up. There is also no genuine competitor to jump to so people have to just quit the genre if they want to leave.
This patch is going to do catastrophic damage to the game.
It's buffing good SWF's and nerfing casual players on both sides. As an experienced Killer, I get to stomp casual players even harder and get less tools to deal with good teams.
Also, simply saying that anyone who disagrees with you is clearly a crying Survivor main is childish at best.

I have a hard time with his power unless I use speed and prolonged power addons because most of the time, if I want to put pressure, Legion's power run out so fast.
I sort of play Legion like I play Knight.
His power is really about putting pressure on people, not necessarily downing them.
It's definitely worse than Knight but I use it in the same way. If I don't think I'll be able to down someone who is injured, I'll tag them with Frenzy and leave.
-
I'll give it a try.
Playing Survivor outside of a SWF is just not going to be viable at all after this.
Killer is going to be much easier on average but harder against good teams.

I truly hope that there are not many people who want this patch to go live as is.

DH deactivates after you use it, regardless of outcome. You'll need to get another unhook if you fail it.

I was onboard with the HUD hiding, but @Pulsar makes a good point about the Solo Queue aspect.
Blindness is unfortunately just one of those things that will always disproportionately screw Solos. And right now the Solo experience is beyond miserable. I played nothing but Survivor last night for six hours. We only got all 5 gens done three times and I only escaped once.
Adding a Blind=No HUD aspect would cause perks like Fearmonger to just destroy Solo.
I'm sorry you had to go through that :(
I don't like to doompost, but if these changes go through, Solo might be getting a LOT worse
-
They do.
I think Sadako and Trickster should have their Lullabies removed.
-
Trapper should not start with all Traps. They should all spawn closer to the center of the map though. Basekit Iri is also probably not a good idea, but it isn't the worst suggestion
Survivors should not be Exposed after dropping a dream pallet.
These Myers buffs do nothing to fix any of his issues.
Survivors should not be Exposed for crushing Victor.
I think the speed boost is too much on Wraith.
The gen Condemnation is fine, Unhooking Condemnation isn't.
If I didn't comment on things, it means I agree.

If you had 3 drones that means only one survivor was disabling your drone...
So 75% of the survivors refused to interact with your power. There is zero reason you should ever have more then one drone if you hold a 3 gen and refuse to chase
Sorry but that does sound like it was on the survivors. And especially now that the 3gen perks are being gutted (rightfully so) i really don't see it as a issue anymore
Okay.
Go watch Hens then, I think he did a day of holding 3-gens with nerfed SM.
I'm sure at least one team was good, but hey, if you want to ignore obvious issues that's not really on me, so I'm out.

Gen regression works in aggregate. CoB+ Overcharge obliterated gens if they were left for 30-40 seconds. Post patch they will do almost nothing so they won't get used.
Nobody is using Pop right now when there are other much better gen regression perks. In times past I averaged 6-9 Pops per game which means I would delay the survivor objective by 2-3 minutes. If I tried using it now I would probably save 20-30 seconds per game. Wow!
-"it's about what it will be"
Pop use will go down from what it is now because without multiple sources of regression you don't stop generator progress.
Doubt it.
It's going to go up as people look for new gen regression combo's.

-"BHVR has to balance around all MMRs."
I've been saying that for years. But you have to remember what Mclean said about the Marth experiments : "we weren't trying to make a balanced game."
That tells you a lot but the reality is that they can't balance high tier play because they can neither play at that level nor really understand it.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3384376#Comment_3384376
You're missing a huge piece of the puzzle here. Chases are "fine" when every member of your SWF has DH and it's active on game start if you get hurt. That goes away with the patch. Chases are going to be shorter and require pallet use much sooner. Even the good players aren't really thinking about how this will change the game.
You can take the most stalwart 10,000 hour player and they have limited options if they have no pallets to work with. Sometimes a 10,000 hour player makes something out of nothing. But your 3000 hour player or less is just "down."
Gen regression is 100% dead. It only works in aggregate. CoB pre nerf only saved you 15 seconds if it was allowed to go for 60 seconds. It's going to save 4 seconds now. Nobody is going to say well this perk is fine with 11/15 seconds of its effect removed.
Overcharge is also 100% dead. Pain Res is likewise Dead. People are saying they will just use Jolt. Jolt was a great combo with multiple Pain Res hooks - that's not gonna happen and you will see that Jolt by itself does nothing.
If this patch happens DBD will become a game where : nobody heals and the generators always get powered. Tunneling remains high. Slugging goes up. Instead of the killers needing gen regression perks - survivors will need both healing perks AND generator rush perks AND exhaustion perks.
Killers will bring Sloppy Butcher - and then what? We know it won't be gen slowdown.
yes, it will be gen slowdown lol.
Every Killer build post-patch:
PGTW, Sloppy, Deadlock and Corrupt.
It's still gonna be mostly gen perks lmao

Did the survivors bother to disable the drones? I don't see you holding a 3 gen when your only power is being a 122% killer. You have to commit to chases at that point
Also one match doesn't mean much. People have played with burgerking Myers and managed to 4k. If survivors are bad enough everything is possible.
Yes, they certainly did disable drones.
Unfortunately for them, I only need three Drones and the areas around the gens are dead zones.
Also, these guys literally brought me to Ormond and were kitted up.
...they also may have all DC'd after the 25 minute mark.

DbD goes on sale a lot. I was traveling and the Silent Hill edition went on sale on Switch (I don't remember for how much) and that's when I got it. I'll say, though, paying anything for a game that performs this poorly is a bummer. BHVR releasing such a bad port and charging money for it feels unethical. The performance is garbage even after BHVR downgraded the game to PS1 graphics and disabled the Switch's built-in 30 second video clip feature (I really miss being able to clip videos).
is it running better on ps4 now?
A couple years ago, performance absolutely tanked on PS4 and Xbox One consoles. I mean, damn near unplayable. I bought an external SSD to fix it, and performance went back to normal. For me, DbD on PS4 runs well. It's still capped at 30 fps and it can still have issues, especially on certain maps (every new map seems to be worse than the previous one), but it's a million times better than on the Switch. However, for PS4 players without an SSD, I do not know how it performs.
Poorly.
It performs very poorly on Xbox One and Xbox One X, even with an SSD.

So basically the loop is:
- unhook safely
- get one DH armed
- (other safe unhooks do not arm the DH further? tokens?)
- use the DH successfully or not
- lose the DH.
If it's not already using tokens, it probably should, with a timer.
Maybe missing its use should be linked to a timer to auto-rearm it after 45s/60s ...
What DH needs to lose is its ubiquity.
It is not using tokens, currently.

I agree with the people above. If the perk is going to deactivate upon any usage, it shouldn't be an Exhaustion perk.

Just for the record, I'd definitely like to see PR go to 20%, perhaps 25% if it's going to be a limited time use Scourge Hook
