That's weird, from my experience it fades in, Ive had situations at short loops where I just dont hear the phasing because it is still fading in, but that was when I played on Console, so it could just be a Console thing at the time.

no no sorry you're actually right, this had been happening from Oct 19th 2021 up until Feb 8 2023 ( around the time the hotfix that mentioned Furin’s adjustment rolled out so that’s 3 weeks ago ) And i think i know what you’re referring to .It’s not a console thing so don’t try overthinking it XD it was happening on both console and pc. But right now the sound doesn’t fade in, it’s just instantaneously loud from the moment Spirit phases for some reason.

the part where i clarified what current Furin does is stil 100% correct.

    With the Ring add-on? Sure.

Content Creators have been and will still be over exaggerating her strengths so people, without having come to their own conclusions by having enough experience and actually using their brain, start parroting it without questions because hey! It’s a big content creator! Surely they’re right and must know everyTHING!

You are forgetting a few things here:

    • The audio fades in when they start phasing, it does not immediately start playing the phase audio as we normally hear it, meaning there is a short period in which phasing audio does not play at all or is toned down to where most people cannot hear it. Paired with Speed addons, this can make getting hits really easy on short loops, and leave Survivors less time to react on larger loops.
    • You really do not consider the fact that people are human and we are bound to make mistakes. Furthermore, this isnt even considering all the people with hearing impairments, Ive seen some really cracked players but they struggle to hear game audio in general, and you arent going against a Spirit every match so it's not like their MMR is tanking that much either.
    • Even if you have the brute force a hit, the movement speed is extremely deadly. Look at DBD's history of top tier Killers and see that most of them were for mobility in combination with lethality, and Spirit has both of those things. And since we are on the topic of addons, Furin removes directional phasing if you start phasing when a Survivor isnt in your Terror Radius OR if they are Oblivious/you are Undetectable; both of which are options you can use if you want old Spirit back.

There is a reason why Spirit is ranked so highly and is still considered a top tier Killer, and why some perks are restricted/held back (Hubris and Starstruck most notably).

I would like to point out that you’re currently completely wrong about Furin. It was changed three weeks ago to where it can no longer hide Spirit’s directional audio even if she phases from afar into a survivor’s TR or if the survivor she’s chasing/has the oblivious effect applied, they still hear it directionally. So basically no work-around trying to hide the directional audio, as it’ll be there 24/7 the moment a phasing spirit is within a 24 meter radius of a survivor.

in response to your first point, it’s completely false as i’ve tested it out over and over and OVER again , the whoosh sound plays the exact moment Spirit gains control of her ethereal form and it’s extremely loud ( unless you’re playing soundless then that’s one’s fault ) and very easy to hear.

third point is alright but that just isn’t fun, Spirit needs what made her have her own way of playing basically a unique playstyle and that’s been gone for a year and so.

I don’t understand why Spirit shouldn’t have directional audio and sound occlusion at the same time. I thought the whole point of Spirit’s character design, and the whole point of her turning invisible, was that she’s supposed to have potential mind games when she’s invisible.

The directional audio wasn’t even a popular requested nerf. People wanted her to have a much more telegraphed “I’m phasing” thing, so Spirit couldn’t do the “I’m standing still and survivors can’t tell if I’m using my power”, and BHVR somehow turned that into massively accurate directional audio, which defeats the purpose of making Spirit invisible.

And sound occlusion should be fine, because if survivors can’t see a killer, then the fact that she’s invisible shouldn’t be a factor, since all the other killers would be able to do the same “50/50” situations if they hide their red stain by turning their camera.

Couldn’t have worded it better than that ✅

  • @Mandy said:

An argument appears to be brewing here, I will do my best to clarify.

I do not have reports on survivor audio being bugged - I have seen reports re sound occlusion which is by design. Survivors are not invisible, there's blood and scratchmarks that also help to track.

However, there is a report and this is confirmed as a bug re Spirits audio occlusion, this should not be occuring - Spirit was given directional sound for a reason - she's invisible, we don't want to go back to the days when the only option against Spirit was a 50/50 guess.

I understand but if sound occlusion which is intended ,as you claim , by design then shouldn’t Spirit’s audio be susceptible to it as well? Replying to your comment about there being blood and scratchmarks being other means of tracking, yes and no, the former cannot be seen during Spirit’s power at all and the latter is so inconsistent that it’s used purely to get close to then having to rely on audio to confirm a hit.

survivors are also invisible to Spirit.

I don’t agree that Spirit mindgames are 50-50s as almost all in-game mechanics are like that , e.g.:T-L walls, and other pvp games are more or less like old Spirit’s mindgames

anyway, thanks for replying and for future replies !

If BHVR doesn’t want to remove sound occlusion from the game, then Spirit should absolutely keep her sound occlusion.

Changes don’t need to be official, announced, or even intended in order to be kept in the game. Survivors absolutely have unintended mechanics that were eventually accepted into the game, and Spirit’s directional audio was such a giant over nerf, that she really needs something like sound occlusion on her audio, because it’s a garbage character design if Spirit has to suffer sound occlusion when the survivors are invisible to her, but the survivors get perfect directional audio of Spirit all the time.

    Yep

I think survivors should come first in this regard, then killer. Bhvr can’t work on everything at the same time

No, both need to be addressed at the same time. If BHVR is able to fix Spirit’s audio not emitting a directional audio, then they sure as hell can do the same for survivor audio. If survivors want Spirit’s directional whoosh to be extremely clear and precise, why is it only THEM that get that luxury ? Why can’t the survivors’ audio be looked at to make it more clearer/precise for the Spirit player to track? The whole reason Spirit got nerfed was to make her « Fairer » in the majority’s eyes for the other side and it’s not fair that survivors’ issues are prioritized without doing the same for killer if they are choosing the «being fair for both sides «  route. It’s hypocrisy really when they claim that both sides should have equal information and it shows through the players/Devs’s actions that they shrug off most killer issues. ( if not all )

many players are ironically wanting what was complained about old Spirit AKA:

«  no equal informatiom/the other side gaining more info than the other «

and it’s contradictory that many « said «  that both sides should have the same amount of information and yet keep on shrugging off the issues that hinder Spirit’s tracking  and focus on wanting to make survivors be able to track Spirit effortlessly whereas the Spirit player can’t do that due to COUNTLESS audio issue that aren’t acknowledged/not thought of as being an issue. It’s stupid really 🙄

as i side note, as much as i hate Spirit having directional audio, it still should be fixed because it’s not an official change to Spirit to have non-directional audio sadly.

  • using mother-daughter ring isn’t « abusing » it, it’s a valid iridescent add-on to run given to Spirit that makes a killer who was unjustifiably nerfed in the wrong way somewhat competent.

but i.g it’s making you having to get in the spirit player’s head to play around it but that seems to much work for you so you go ahead and call it « abusable «  right….

  • Spirit with directional audio or not, you all will still find ways to complain no matter what…what a joke 🙄

  • @legacycolt said:

Spirits directional phasing audio needs to be fixed asap before anything

entitlement at its finest, if you want it fixed so bad, then so should inconsistent audio on the survivors’ side which is way more impactful than what you’re asking to be fixed but go ahead i.g

  • @legacycolt said:

Why would they intentionally put audio issues in the game? 🙄

There are things called shadow nerfs or buffs and they have a chance to be turned into a feature in the game later on. And the in-game sounds have been bugged for as long as i can remember and the devs still don’t seem to be at least attempting to acknowledge them even though I’m not the first to tell them about this….what does that tell you? 4+ YEARS of still « working » on them and considering it not INTENTIONAL? If that’s the case, then it’s just pure laziness and incompetence and nothing more

but sure let’s fix Spirit’s directional audio ASAP to be extremely clear and free of any audio issues while we leave out the part where it’s on the survivor side….🙄

  • Sure but remove his tombstone add-ons anr incorporate them into his basekit so he’s like Pyramid head where he has to have a certain affliction applied to survivors before being able to instakill fhem.

  • You can just spot a moving shimmer when he’s within 20 meters….?

  • Not really, Spirit is one of the most skill-requiring killers to play as in dbd. So don’t get discouraged if people seem to attribute your wins with a certain killer to something. If she’s a killer you enjoy playing as, keep on doing it!

I’m aware, not really a fan of it but if others like it then i’m happy for them :)

  • I will rejoice when directional audio gets replaced with an omnidirectional one. The skin for Spirit looks okay-ish, would’ve preferred a tattered tradition-like skin.

Instead of trying to react to the Spirit sounds when you can't tell the direction of her, force her to react to you.

    This is Proactive vs Reactive.

IE you hear her phasing after you but aren't where she's going to go so you fast vault the window, wait a second, slow vault back over. This forces her to immediately commit to going around and now her powers on cooldown with her on the opposite side of the loop.

Don't react to Spirit, make her react to you. You're trying to manipulation your sounds that she's hearing to force her to make guesses.

But don't you prefer there actually being some reactionary aspect to her power? I play Spirit every now and again and my favourite thing to do was mind game using the phasing sound, you can't do that anymore, again, it falls back into her old playstyle of "the survivor guessed wrong", it doesn't feel rewarding at all.

well i play Spirit almost every game ( have been for a long time ) and i mostly go against survivors who don’t fall for the « Bait directional audio in one side then appear from the other side «  and more often than not this doesn’t work as there are titles where after baiting one side, it takes a while to get all the way to the other side ( Spirit’s default phase-walk movement speed certainly doesn’t help in this regard )

also not to mention, i won’t always be starting phase-walk up close for the « bait directional audio « to be effective , Sometimes i will need to injure a survivor then catch up to them using my power and in doing so, i will be using at least half of the power gauge if not more and there won’t be enough duration for me to do that and then the recovery time takes a while to recharge.

overall, personally i don’t like the directional audio as it makes Spirit feel like a fast-moving killer without any uniqueness to her.

  • @indieeden7 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3344208#Comment_3344208

True, but that means nothing if

    1) You don't know where she is, I've had times playing against Spirit recently where she starts phasing, I drop a pallet to try and at least delay a hit and it turns out she was actually leaving me

    2) She's moving at double your speed at base

well then we go back to playing against her the proper way: being proactive, trying your best not to put yourself in a position where it favors the Spirit, and overall prolonging the chase time.

and her still having an audio cue when starts phasing in the terror radius definitely helps maximize the effectiveness of the things i mentioned above.

  • @indieeden7 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3344105#Comment_3344105

I mean I personally think there's a difference between gen sounds being muffled by walls and Spirit pretty much being reverted to her old self.

Spirit losing directional audio doesn’t suddenly « revert » her to her old self. There’s still an audio notification for when she starts phasing in the TR.

  • Oh for the love of god! Leave her be please! Instead of needlessly killswitching a killer character many like to play as that doesn’t have a REAL gamebreaking bug ( like how twins used to be ) , work on a fix that will rectify this.

P.S, in my opinion, this « Buff «  should have been implemented with her last nerf back in Oct 2021. Shouldn’t have had a directional audio in the first place, just an omnidirectional audio.

  • Deserved for ruining the Furin add-on.

  • How are you still complaining about the Furin add-on ? It got changed on February 8th ( last Wednesday ) to make it so that whenever a phasing Spirit enters a 24-meter radius of a survivor, it turns directional.

using the Furin add-on is actually going to leave the spirit player at a disadvantage now.

but can you tell me what the loadouts of some of the Spirit players were?

  • @FMG15 said:

Furin is an addon from the Spirit. This addon makes it so every survivor can hear the Spirits phasing and the directional sound cue is getting removed. This literally removes her counterplay because you can't tell where she is going and it's baffling how BHVR can make such an addon after giving her the directional sound cue. Other addons of her are problematic as well but no addon is as obnoxious as this one. Please change the addon.

Happy now? There, you got what you wanted. Such entitled players i swear, god forbid a killer has something fun and nice to use in their add-on slots.

  • @Bwsted said:

I opened the game and the add-on description still says the phasing sound is heard by all the survivors. Which doesn't make sense with the patch notes.

I guess someone will have to go ahead and test it.

No, it’s referring to how survivors can now hear her directionally regardless of whether the affected survivor has oblivious applied ( it used to make it so that a phasing spirit even inside the terror radius would still produce a non-directional audio cue ) or she started phasing outside their terror radius and is approaching them ( getting closer to the survivor(s) in phase-walk )

  • @RainehDaze said:

Probably the option that makes it completely pointless to use, I imagine.

Oh it is now XD it’s not even vague when she gets close at least like wth!!

  • @Krazzik said:

It sounds like using the addon previously caused an issue with the Spirit player's audio, and they fixed it.

This shouldn't effect the audio of the survivors since that's the entire point of the addon.

What do you mean by ( shouldn’t affect the audio of the survivors? )

  • @Bwsted said:

I already did, it’s still directional no matter what, you can’t work around it with perks/distance anymore…It was the only thing that made playing Spirit feel special and unique for me after the nerf in October of 2021 :(

Basically, now if Spirit is phasing and not within a survivor’s terror radius and isn’t approaching , that survivor will hear the omnidirectional audio cue.

if Spirit approaches from beyond a survivor’s terror radius and enters said radius,, all survivors within the raidus will hear a very clear whoosh sound coming from whichever direction the spirit is coming from basically rendering the add-on useless and a waste of add-on slot because it’s like the Spirit player isn’t running the add-on ( like current default Spirit )

this really defeats the point of the add-on, it should be made a brown rarity now.

  • @drsoontm said:

I used to like her but after the directional nerf/patch, any decent survivor seemed able to pin-point her location.

I'm curious to know how your opinion may evolve after a certain amount of games.

Yeah, wish at least they made her directional audio really vague ( not like the the current one like it’s so not vague when she’s near and starts phasing towards you XD ) and don’t get me wrong! I wish they’d remove her directional audio altogether but keep the omnidirectional one so survivors don’t complain ( they’ll still do prolly XD )

Also i did very much like her not having a whoosh sound at all when starting to phase from within a survivor’s TR, oh well i guess all good things will inevitably end :(

They could at least make the Furin add-on makes it so that the whooshing noise is omnidirectional at all distances without having to phase from a certain distance or equip oblivious or undetectable status -effect -applying perks for it be omnidirectional.

  • Try improving at vsing Spirit. She already got hit pretty hard last year and still is no where as strong as she used to be.

However, Mother-Daughter Ring could get reworked into something other than what you suggested as that’s extremely unfair ( like not only would she go slower than the current M/S of MDR but she still wouldn’t hear survivors nor see their scratches AND wouldn’t be able to see grass/crows movement but the survivors can still hear and track Spirit? How is that fair ? If so, then survivors shouldn’t be able to hear the whooshing at all if that’s the case. But it should be changed into something really useful without a ridiculous downside ( a worthy iridescent. )

In regards to your first two proposed changes to Spirit, she’s had them since her last nerf except for when she runs the purple add-on «  Furin «  to an extent.

If you are having trouble listening for the directional audio cue when Spirit is phasing, practice better positioning at pallets so that the audio can be heard easier than if you weren’t. ( i mean if the Spirit starts phasing from the left of your screen, you turn your character the opposite way and look directly at the front of a pallet and vice versa and if the spirit starts phasing in front of you then you face the opposite way and listen for her whoosh and vice versa. ) try it, this should definitely help!

The 3 third point you mentioned is actually intended, there is a tip on the loading screen when playing Spirit that says

«  Feigning to charge Yamaoka’s Haunting , you can trick survivors into thinking that you are ABOUT to phase «

( Not the old stand still tactic/trick/mind-game but it’s referring to when Spirit is doing the hand twitching thing that’s visible to spirit only when the player wants to go into Phase-Walk. ) so Spirit not having a visible charge up animation Is a part of her kit.

Why would she lose her red stain when phasing? This is pointless as you can easily tell if she’s phasing-walking or not or are you saying her husk should lose collision so she can’t block pallets? If the latter, no way as this is pretty much the only thing she has besides her speed that help her in chases.

Your DCB change is whatever honestly.

I really like the senko hanabi buff! Good stuff!

Mother’s glasses should be changed into giving Spirit her old vaulting animation.

Can i know how much of a buff the phase-walk movement speed increase is? And the charge-up time prior to going into phase-walk?

Also, may i know how many hours in total you have on dbd ( be truthful ) i won’t judge but it would be a helpful reminder if your lack of experience ( nothing to be ashamed of ) is the problem or Spirit herself ( which i highly doubt she is. )

SC allowed me to be aware if the killer was approaching, which I can't tell by the sounds, to prepare potential escape routes depending on where it popped up from.

Now it simply lights up and flickers and does crazy sht once you're within the TR. Even if the killer is tunneling someone else. So the information is way too much but useless.

How did you know from which side the killer was approaching with old SC?

  • I don’t get the part that says “ make the add-on start working when the ability is charged “

you mean while charging up the power or after it’s been charged up? Because mother’s glasses definitely activate after you’ve finished charging up Yamaoka’s haunting ( tho the radius is so small that most of the time it won’t work )

i agree about the cup not being a worthy iridescent ( look at Mother-Daughter ring, a true, worthy add-on of being an iridescent! )

Blight probably has the best power for map traversal in the game that returns after 10 seconds if fully empty, whereas spirit takes 15 seconds to fully replenish her power. Blight is also faster than spirit with his power empty and can continue to move around the map faster but spirit has longer cooldown and is slower outside of her power. I would say spirit and blight has similar anti loop potential when played correctly. So is blight given 4.6 just because some loops have bad collision or don’t have things to bounce around on. Especially with spirit being nerfed it doesn’t make sense to me why she is still only a 4.4 and blight is a 4.6.

Spirit should get a faster power recovery by base tbh like rusty flute being basekit with rin’s broken watch tbh

    Spies from the shadows-

i really would like to see it not disturb crows on any killer ( just like calm spirit ) and also increase the detection range from 36 to idk a bit more? And a small QOL to it so that whenever a bird icon shows on your screen, it replaces that “ loud noise notification “ that happens to blast your ears for no reason every 5 seconds aaaaaand that’s it really!

ok lets be real yes she still is strong and her add ons can make her old power come back so it seems counter productive... but why nerf her? lets be real even decent nurse wont win every match and you can have counterplay, double back, if she teleports in your face then just change the plan and keep running, ive done that mid match and then the nurse couldnt get me because she was used to catching survs who would only double back. its a 1v1 so you have to realize that if she knows what youre gonna do then do what she doesnt think youll do and when she sees you do that find out how long it takes her to realize and change her style. if she doesnt adjust she is a bad nurse, if she does adjust then you know you have to constantly switch and be unpredictable.

i digress, nurse is fine, because although she is way too strong at the highest level, its not because its easy. she is easy to pick up, but at the end of the day if you dont have great intuition or lets say gamer sense and can switch playstyles at an instant for every survivor, then you cant reach that level. that level is also rare. most people just dont know what to do against nurse at a somewhat higher level, as soon as a nurse can hit blinks and mindgames survivors scramble. she isnt like old spirit where a good headset could make you great. she requires real skill and most people just dont have that skill. nurse could always be tweaked but not nerfed

Stop saying “ if you have a good headset, You’ve mastered Spirit “ it’s literally cringeworthy….what even is that logic? If you’ve Played against really good survivors consistently as “ Old “ spirir you’d know a “ good “ headset only helps when you’re close to a survivor , seeing as good survivors will make that first hit as hard for you to get as possible and also not to mention most of these survivors if not all run IW

From my survivor POV he definitely needs a buff :v

He has chance to be a really high tier killer, but he's so predictable that after 3-4 games, it's hard to be outplayed by him.

I'd delete his locker aura, cuz he already makes so much noise that the additional indicator seems useless. Or turn down the noise a bit.

Also his teleport speed outside of nightfall is a joke. He's supposed to juke you by using lockers, but it takes him ages to get into one.

The only thing i would maybe nerf from him is the distance he can travel after leaving the remnant, cuz no limit kinda sucks, usually killers have their power gauge depleted when using power

What distance are you referring to? Him being able to hold is “ power “ indefinitely while using his anti-loop?

Yeah she's no longer comp or top tier swf viable. You get so much info on her now she's literally pallet loopable. The only thing she has going for her is speed and trying to move faster than they can react which basically leaves her speed add on reliant.

And also the “ Furin “ add-on surprisingly remove the directional whoosh if the survivors or survivor has the “ oblivious status effect “ which is annoying tbh

the furin needs to be omnidirectional at least without any condition

Yeah I used to love Spirit (as and against for that matter) but they completely neutered her.

Same but i still main her, that’s how much i love her lmao, i lowered my mmr to have fun ( i don’t bully those below me in skill but i just couldn’t take how much survivors get info on me while i’m phasing AND exactly which direction i’m coming from easily whereas i have to go blind AND have to be 4-0 meters to hear their breathing and walking footsteps and they run that busted perk IW with no downside )

And before anyone says i’m just not good “enough “ i’ve been maining her the day she was released and have seen her all that she went through from bugs to actual nerfs

current spirit just can’t keep up with high mmr survivors not unless she runs two add-ons every game ( the cheery blossom or the amulet )

Oni can be looped even in his power but nurse can't so there would be downside. Good nurse downs you in 10s so oni would still not be anywhere close to that power.

I think they should first make it an iri and give it the downside of not being able to insta down survivors for the first time he uses his power ( would be at the start of the game ) and he’d still be able to pressure tho cause of his speed XD idk what’s up with people saying he’d be “ op “ or whatever

  • Nah it wouldn’t be op. It would actually make him viable. But i’d say make it an iri first and see how it goes. One QOL change he needs is for his power to ACTUALLY fill to full without having to have to absorb an orb to reach his power like….what the hell 😂😭🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

  • i think the only thing they did was lower the volume?
