Are you guys on XB1 & PS4 experiencing these problems?
Yes,and it's basically unplayable.
Never seen a game with performamce THIS bad

But it runs great on PS5, so is it a hardware issue or not?
It's less an hardware issue but rather a poor optimization problem.
This game isn't more complicated than any other multiplayer game out there and those other games STILL work perfectly fine on last gen consoles.
DbD is the ONLY game i've played on PS4 that has performance issues THAT bad
-
@shanny_boi said:
Is it really that bad on console? I play on PC and fortunately have experienced practically no performance issues. Did the last update really shatter the performance on console?
It feels like something around 30 FPS between 720p and 480p with frequent micro freezes here and there + full 1 or 2 second long freezes on certain events (e.g Dead Hard,Sloppy Butcher etc.)
-
@Razorbeam said:
Well if it isn't fixed soon then the game will get pulled from the sony store, so I imagine it will be, at least to how it was before this chapter.
Absolutely no way Sony will ever do that again.
Cyperpunk was the big exception here

I switched to PC a few days ago and I haven't seen the problems people are mentioning. I play on ultra with a solid 60 fps on pretty much every map (Ormond did drop to 58 fps for a second, then back to 60). Maybe people just need to upgrade or update their systems. idk...
Last gen consoles should easily be able to run DbD,but unfortunately this game is an unoptimized mess so the only thing that runs this game well are really strong PCs/consoles that just power through that.

I really want to enjoy playing Blight and Nurse again.
But i'm not too hopeful about that 😧

Im not sure about y'all...
But im not spending money to get good optimisation on a 5 year old game, that should have NO PROBLEMS running on current gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One)
Im not buying a SSD or a next gen console, this is up to BHVR to fix.
Well,see you in 100 years then 🌝

Very interesting,thank you
I'm really considering buying a SSD but i need to know how DbD performs with an SSD on base PS4 because unlike the Pro version, base PS4 only has USB 2.0
-
@Edgars_Raven said:

Could you upload a game with the SSD?
(Maybe also mention what SSD you are using)

I went out today and bought a Samsung T5 SSD at Best Buy. I moved DbD and two Warhammer games onto it. DbD is running soooo much smoother now. I haven't tested the Warhammer games, yet, I'll find out if those see any improvement later.
Am I happy about having to buy the SSD? No. But the game isn't stuttering and dropping frames for every little thing like it was before, so that's good. The devs still need to optimize their damn game, though. Their fog effects turn the fan into a jet engine (especially on the menu screens, which is just ridiculous, they're menu screens), the performance could still be improved, and the map flashes white constantly.
Can you show a comparison?
I might be buying a SSD aswell but i'm not sure yet
-
A weaker version of corrupt would be neat.
Maybe something like 15 or 30 seconds?

Does your friend store DbD on a HHD,SSHD or SSD?

I forgot that since you had no issues, that means nobody else did either.
@OniWantsYourMacaroni aren't you on Ps4?
Yes i am and i started to see FPS drops around the time dedicated servers were introduced.
Later updates just brought some more FPS drop triggers
Outside of FPS drops the general FPS were pretty ok for me.
The Resident Evil update hotfixes however COMPLETELY destroyed performance for me.
Much more frequent FPS drops + lower FPS in general (And i'm not sure if it's because of lower FPS but my game looks like it's running on lower resolution than before sometimes).
-
We wait a whole year for a new map amd them we get...
THIS
RCPD combines pretty much all features we hate
-Awful gen spread
-Gens are hard to find
-Navigating the map is difficult
-RCPD is HUGE
-Indoor map so a lot of killer power are useless there
RCPD + the map reworks just show that BHVR has no idea about balancing gameplay on maps.
-
I'm currently playing WAY less than i normally do,because playing the game with performance issues THIS bad is straight up frustrating.
It's really sad because i really wanted to earn some BP :(
BHVR really should extend the event to make up for this mess

More partical effects and projectiles to track, but there's actually a lot less unique interactions than DBD. Just think about the loadouts. Overwatch has set skills for every character, so there's no variance to their programming in play. There are hundreds of perks, offerings, items, add ons and powers in DBD and they all have to interact with each other in so many more combinations than overreach could imagine.
Killer hits survivor with Sloppy Butcher -> survivor receives the hemorrhage and mangled status effect = Screen Freezes for the survivor
Why should such a simple interaction cause a huge FPS drop?
And i don't see what kind of interactions should be that complicated to justify FPS drops.
Just look at this clip
https://youtu.be/jm9aTc8Ba64Just a Prove Thyself icon popping uo on my screen caused a freeze.

Ssd? As in an extended storage? If so dbd has always been on an extended storage for me...
A SSD is basically another type of device to store data similiar to HDDs.
The core difference between those 2 is that SSDs can access the data you stored on them MUCH faster than HDDs.

I'm on an original Xbox One from like, 2013 (no fancy-schmancy One S's or One X's here).
As far as a really rough before/after video:
Quality's a little iffy because I don't have high-end video editing software, but hopefully it conveys the difference.
The big takeaway is that I saw a near-complete disappearance of extreme stutters/freezes after moving DbD onto my external hard drive (which, to reiterate, is an SSD).
Even when Bloodlust or other statuses activated, even when lunging at survivors, even when being stunned/blinded, and even when Dead Hard was used (Feng had it, but I forgot to record my chases with her), the game just... worked.
That's very interesting.
What kind of SSD are you using?

how can you update the game graphically while keeping it optimized for 8+ year old consoles?
DbD itself is 5 years old aswell.
Optimizing or at least fixing common Fps drop triggers shouldn't be too hard
In comparison, games like Overwatch have WAY mire action going on but without ANY performance issues at all
-
I actually agree.
Going against a Blight can be insanely fun,but gets pretty frustrating if he's using the standard Blight build

@APoipleTurtle said:
Hey, I found a small workaround that might help some of you with the performance issues:
If you have DbD saved to your console's internal hard drive (which is likely to be an HDD with current-gen consoles) and also have an external SSD hard drive on hand, move DbD onto the SSD. I swapped it over on to my new one yesterday evening (a Samsung T7) and noticed a drastic improvement in performance over all the jank I was dealing with that afternoon.
Did it based on a hunch which someone shared in a different post about how they think DbD isn't functioning right with HDD storage (something about choking the flow of information or whatever, I don't remember all of it) but doesn't have these issues on SSD. Next Gen consoles use SSD storage instead of HDD, so this might be an additional factor helping their experience.
Don't get me wrong, the game still doesn't run all that great, but it does run a heck of a lot more like it did prior to update 5.0.0 (the RE Chapter). At the very least, it has significantly cut down on the stuttering I was experiencing.
It's not a perfect solution, these hard drives can be a bit pricey if you don't already own one so it'd still be money to shell out for a better DbD experience that shouldn't have been this bad to begin with, but they are a lot cheaper than the next-gen consoles if you aren't ready to make that jump yet. Plus hey, more storage for other games you could play when DbD is being terrible (like Civ 5, obviously).
What console are you playing on and could you post a before and after type of video?
That would be helpful.

Oh boy, double throw rate addons on maps like Macmillan or Autohaven is gonne be REALLY fun 😩

The lullaby is huge, at around 45 meters radius. Players are used to hearing it a lot, even if the Huntress isn't that close. When the 20m TR is removed, it's surprsing how often you can "sneak" up on players who are expecting a TR warning when she's close. Wooden Fox seems to be working fine.
I'm pretty sure her Lullaby gets louder the closer she is to you, right?

Same. I really doubt that, with how surprisingly bitter the community can be during events, we're getting these recolours for Wraith and David. I feel like we'll be lucky to even get this first milestone.
Oh,don't worry.
We'll get them anyway,BHVR will just act that we met the goal so that everyone can have a wholesome community moment while ""enjoying"" those unique rewards that definetely took a whole year to design 😉

I love Otz but he’s wrong about that. With all the performance issues, this has been the worst state the game has been at least ever since I started playing.
I think you can say that Binding of Kin broke the game more than Resident Evil, but the fact that Resident Evil was one of the more hyped chapters this game has ever have makes it a real punch in the gut to the community. Not only is performance terrible right now, but it’s gotten to the point where the devs have lost a lot of the trust that the community has and it seems like we aren’t ever going to get the fixes we deserve.
It’s heartbreaking that that’s the case but BHVR has made it very clear that they just just don’t care anymore. At this point, the least the devs can do in just be honest with the community that they don’t care anymore.
The Resident Evil chapter is even worse than Binding of Kin imo.
You were at least able to play the game (except the Twins).
But 5.0.0 and the two hotfixes just completely destroyed performance for the majority of the playerbase and makes playing extremely frustrating
-
Yeah,it's super fun 🤡
FPS drops are much more frequent and FPS in general are lower (i think i'm around 30 FPS right now)

@Pulsar said:

With all of the stuff in this thread, do you guys think DBD is in a worse place then it was 6 months ago? Otz doesn't seem to think so, and I honestly cannot fathom how he doesn't. (yes I know, don't take words of streamers as some Holy text but still)
Balance wise?
No,the game definetely improved in that regard. Not too much, but balance is overall better than it was before.
Game Health wise?

Can't imagine how playing killer feels like.
It's so much worse.
Not only do i have to deal with frequent FPS drops/screen freezes.
No,now my FPS in general are lower than before,it feels really choppy.
I even played a bit of Overwatch to test if my console is at fault, but nope,Overwatch works perfectly.
It's beyond frustrating

I have glimpses of a time they delayed something ("Due to unforseen circumstances, the update has been postponed" - I think this is the quote), and I can tell you the community didn't react well.
Case 1: They don't rush the update: people will whine about long wait times between chapters
Case 2: They rush the chapter, so those people won't complain: bugs, and complaints.
Case 3: They delay the update in order to deliver a good experience: people will still complain about how they don't keep their promises.
I can't remember what update you're talking about.
However,i can already tell you that people who are complaining about a delayed update are the immature part of the community and are most likely the vocal minority.

Q1: If they would have known the cause of the issue, be sure it would have been fixed. They know the issue, but right now, if I ask you to tell me why it crashes and what needs to be repaired, can you tell me? Probably not, because you would have to investigate, and if you can't find the source, you can't repair anything. (If your car isn't starting, you now the issue, but in order to fix it, you have to know why it isn't starting)
Q2: Valid feelings? Yes, of course. No one says they shouldn't be upset. But they also shouldn't trash down the company because they aren't able to find the source of the issue.
Thing is though,as a company they are supposed to test all their updates before they release them in order to prevent major game breaking issues.
But as we all know and already experienced it ourself,BHVR just doesn't do that.
Like,at all.
We have more than enough prove of this.
So what is the responsible decision for a company in this situation?
Delay the update until you're confident that it will work without major issues. The mature part of the community would be 100% ok with that.At the end of the day we all want a good and functioning update.
But BHVR actively decides against acting in a responsible manner and continues to push out one broken update after another.
So of course people will start to get more and more angrier
It's completely BHVRs fault.
-
I had hopes that BHVR wouldn't let thousands of console players down before the event
Yeah,that was your first mistake.
You need to know that BHVR doesn't care about its playerbase and is only concerned about how much more money they can get out of this game while blatantly lying on our faces before it completely dies one way or the other.
Your lesson?
Never trust this company
