Once you peel away the Captain PhD rhetoric you're saying what survivors always say.

Dbd toxicity "For me, but not for thee!"

Hell for that matter I've gotten nasty messages from survivors for hitting them after hook so they stop screaming. Why? I'm only wasting my time and it's just a game, right?

It's almost as if there's something missing ........

I’m honestly not following. Where did I ever allude to the “for me, but not for thee”? I’m simply pointing out that you made a false equivalence. I don’t condone either side intentionally trying to waste other peoples time, just pointing out that you have the option to shorten one and not the other.

If killer is weakest in the early game, how come there are so many games where all 4 people are sacrificed and 0 gens are done?

This game is designed around RNG. Got good spawn and gens are well spread? Good for you. Got bad spawn and killer found you in the first 5 or 10 seconds of the game? That's too bad.

This game's sense of balance is around how weak survivors are and how many mistakes they may do. In the match where everyone is competent, 1 hook = 1 or 2 gens is common because a chase can easily take 40 + seconds and if plan to run around ''disturbing'' people you will get nowhere in the end.

Perks like Lethal Pursuer or Corrupt work if you pick a killer that can utilize them. Even then there's RNG and luck factor involved. Try using these perks on someone with lower mobility or non-range killer and you will see how useless these perks will become for you. Slowdowns are reliable on all killers, this is why people choose to use them more over other perks right now.

Can’t say I share that same experience. I use Lethal every game on every killer and often I play M1 killers as I’m fond of their playstyles and mindgames that come with it and I get use out of lethal every game. It gives you so much info at the weakest part of the game for killer. Allows you to enter chase quickly and know the positions of their teammates if you need to drop and change targets.

    certainly something to stive for.

i struggle with that partly cause my brain is just wired like that but thats no excuse i know that. but atleast i got rid of the ba habbit to engage in chat that was a big problem as a teen/ young adult. my temper got a bit better the closer i came to the big 30.

but still maybe you can asnwer me that question why is it that people love to do stuff like that knowing fully its just to disrespect the other person or maybe they even hope they can get to them.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3682625#Comment_3682625

that last question is for you two you have quite the big mouth maybe you can answer

I don’t do it myself so I can’t speak on it personally, but I think you answered your own question.

They more than likely do it to get a reaction out of you, they want you to get salty and upset. Just simply don’t give them that satisfaction or kill them with kindness if they start trash talking.

If you take a step back for a second and realize that you’re getting upset over someone hitting a button in a video game it is rather funny and often will change your perspective.

Don’t let other people determine your mood and feelings, they’re yours not others.

It's not as deep as you're making it, it's just the matter of not wanting to give a poor sport the satisfaction of getting what they want.

But I agree, of course it's just a game. There's no point in seeing it as anything but entertainment, regardless of playstyle, bm or whatever.

I do hope the survivors I play for the rest of the evening feel the same.

Which is totally fine if you don't want to give them that satisfaction, but you're comparing two situations that aren't comparable and that's where the contention is stemming from. It's like comparing a passenger on a plane to the pilot of that plane. One has full control and one's at the mercy of someone else.

What you're saying makes no sense. I didn't present a circular argument I presented a direct comparison. Almost every day I see posts from survivors about how unfun being bled out is. I directly compared it to how unfun it is to wait out the EGC as killer.

Which you have full control over, something survivors don't when they're getting bled out. I don't understand how you think this is a direct comparison in the slightest, it is by definition not lol.

  • It's hilarious to me how people act like t-bagging at the exit gate is this truly terrible and traumatic experience as they can't "face the shame and humliation" of seeing them doing it and simply pushing them out, something completely under your control by the way (Also, this post is a false equivalence strictly due to that agency).

You're playing a video game and getting real life offended over someone pressing a button... Honestly, that's a big sign that you should probably grow up or stop playing PvP games if you can't handle something as simple as that.

The moment you try to be creative and go perks that don't contribute to gen regression you get always get 2 or 3 gens done before your first hook. It's the known standard against competent survivors ( I'm not even talking about sweaty swf, let alone MS / Wallhack hackers who are rampart in the game ) and from that very moment you have two options - tunnel someone asap or try to spread the hooks and end up camping the last guy because all other gens will be done. It's just the fact.

Killers are required to have massive amount of slowdown or play high mobility killers because there's physically no way to keep everyone occupied at the same time. Just because some people are doing obvious mistakes and getting caught early doesn't mean every game will have such person who'll play a role of an equalizer in the match. Very often, you will be dealing against capable players who understand what to do and won't waste time so if your perk loadout as killer consists of something else than slowdown, you will feel the difference.

All these requests of meta change are senseless. The moment something else becomes meta the new wave of complaints will flood in, asking for the change. I'm sure even if killers where forced to play with random perk loadout every time, there would still be people asking to make the randomizer pick perks from specific list so they don't synergize or stack with each other.

    1. Killer is weakest in the early game, it is quite literally designed as so. Losing two to three gens is not an automatic loss on killer as the last two gens usually take 2,3,4 times as long as the first pop. If you are consistently losing this many gens on your first chase than your A.) either not finding people quick enough or B.) you're not downing people / spreading pressure well enough. Run Lethal Pursuer or Corrupt if this is truly happening to you this often. If you can get a down within the first gen popping, odds are you're winning that game.
    2. Yes, you will of course feel the difference in game speed when not running slowdown, that's a given. But, you will learn how to improve your gameplay and when and where you need to take chase, drop chase, pressure gens, pressure altruism, etc. It teaches you how to play the game better and of course you'll lose more, but playing with full stacked slowdown just artificially enhances your skill. You've locked yourself in a cycle of feeling like you need to run full slowdown because you run full slowdown.

A point system would be a nerf though.

The problem is that killers feel that stacking gen slowdown is required. Why is that? Try running a game as killer where you play with no slowdown at all and you'll see that the gens simply go too fast.

Now, what is the solution to this problem? They should do what they do with killer addons that feel "required" Nerf the addon, buff the basekit.

I think they should do just that, nerf the perks, and then buff the basekit. Make the basekit gen kick 10% instead of 5%. Make the basekit regression be 0.5 charges/s instead of 0.25 charges/s. Give a basekit corrupt that lasts like 30 seconds, and also blocks hex totems.

Then go and nerf or rework all the gen perks.

Killers feeling required to run slow down perks is an illogical line of thought.

Imagine a Super Smash player that only plays the best character in the game (probably Steve), a character that most agree is downright broken and plays the game for you. Now imagine this dude makes it to top 8’s consistently with Steve, but can’t even get out the first round playing any other character. Now, the Steve player could interpret this one of two ways. He either thinks that he is required to play Steve or he can realize that he needs to actually improve at the game, it’s mechanics, interactions, etc.. The reality is that he’s not nearly as good at the game as the other players, he just gets carried by an S tier character.

Now, this is DbD, you’re not playing for rank (that you can visibly see), you’re not playing for money, etc. It’s okay to lose games, it’s okay to get stomped every once in a while. All you’re doing by running full stack regression perks is artificially enhancing your MMR and more than likely your perception of your own skill. Play to win if you want, but don’t say that you’re required to run slowdown perks when in reality you’ve overextended past your actual skill level and are getting players that are flat out just better. Take the slowdowns off, it’ll improve your gameplay and experience so much more in the long run. You’re not forced to run anything, you’ve just tricked yourself into thinking that you should win 75%+ of your games handedly.

Just the other night I watched “Smile”, my girlfriend (who’s terrified of horror movies by the way lol) wanted to watch one and I’d only seen the marketing they did before the movie released so didn’t really know too much about it; just assumed it would be a pretty cheesy horror movie with a few cheap jump scares but to her distress and mine I was definitely wrong 😅

If you’re at all into moody, slow burn, psychological movies with great atmospheres I’d definitely recommend. Very similar to “It Follows” (another favorite of mine) but with better character motivations and a better atmosphere IMO. I don’t usually get very scared anymore watching horror movies as during Covid lockdown I felt like I watched every single one ever made, but this one had me genuinely uneasy the whole time.

Despite my humor here on the forum about Killer supremacy the truth is that as the Killer I don’t have the heart to kill Survivors. I know most Survivors don’t escape often so I like to change it up for them.

When I’m not being friendly I will play “normal” until someone is on death hook/about to bleed out etc. and then ignore them or let them wiggle off or whatever but I won’t make it super obvious. I’ll try and scare them, I’ll chase them, I’ll injure them/ leave them slugged then leave to get someone else- pretty much all the torture minus the elimination. This leaves them in a situation like a scary movie filled with interaction and gameplay. I usually let them leave but again I don’t like to make it super obvious. I’ll still chase them out of the exit gates like a bat out of hell.

It’s funny because some Survivors definitely call my bluff. Suffice it to say there are many stare-downs that end with me getting in their face revving chainsaw or whatever power I’m using just to turn around and leave to get someone else lol

My hope is that the match is heart pounding and filled with suspense. That they feel what it is like (especially newer players) to loop the Killer and escape/win chases. I hope that the whole time they experience the full range of emotions that escaping entails including escaping in the nick of time with their teammates.

It really comes from a good place as someone who loves the horror genre.

“Love is the devil counting teardrops in the rain to the sound of a chalkboard symphony played with nails.

For what it's worth I don't want to see you hurt anymore… than you have to…”

Getting called on your bluff is always hilarious when playing like this lol. Same as you I always try to make it feel real and like I'm actually trying to kill them, but sometimes you get the occasional slow head turn and staredown from someone 😂. If I'm playing Pig and don't get a boop though.... good luck

Yeah absolutely. This would be easily the best aura perk in the game. Constant info for the cost of absolutely nothing. Imagine this on a Nurse, Blight, Oni, Hillbilly, etc.

It would need a hefty cooldown if this were the case.

I'll either have 10 great games in a night where I don't necessarily escape in every game, but have enjoyable, fun games where everyone seems to know what they're doing.

Then the next day I'll have 10 games in a row where I don't even come close to escaping, teammates seem to have 20 hours, and killers running full meta on A-S tier killers while tunneling and playing super sweaty.

That's also one of my biggest pains, the sheer number of different tracking perks. Some are fair, some aren't, but there's just so many of them that it makes it a rigged coinflip on if stealth is even worthwhile in a match, let alone possible. Both sides are guilty of this, though killer does tend to get some of the more egregious ones.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3681140#Comment_3681140

I'm not saying I want to win every chase, there's just a lot of times where I feel like breaking one off is downright impossible due to extant game mechanics like scratch marks. I can perfectly accept losing chases, just let me have a chance to actually get out of one if I can play my cards right. Also, it's not the gens specifically that I find more fun, I just like hammering out objectives regardless of the game I play. Gabriel kinda became a favourite of mine because of perks that enable that, Scavenger my beloved. I find chases are usually more tiring/annoying/frustrating than anything, though I have had my share of enjoyable ones too (ironically some of my favourites have been against Blights).

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3681143#Comment_3681143

Simple answer, I don't have enough stealth perks widely available yet. Longer answer, I mostly just feel like there's a couple too many ways to find survivors unless they're running very specific perks, and as somebody who doesn't have all of those specific perks, it kinda feels bad to be punished for committing the sin of wanting to move at a decent speed when a killer is dangerously near, only to have a big neon sign pointing my direction.

That is by design though. The games almost 8 years old and the majority of both sides of the playerbase prefer chases over stealth so the game has been designed to accommodate that.

I don’t think changing things like adding perks like lightweight basekit or changing scratch marks would be perceived well by the community.

And breaking chase even without stealth perks is entirely possible if you play your cards right. There’s tiles on almost every map in the game that you can hard break LOS and slip behind things. Being unpredictable with your pathing can very often get you so much distance as well that the killer has almost no choice but to leave you.

  • @Mentally_Mechanical said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3681023#Comment_3681023

I brought up an example in my last reply where I said I do take aggro and hook states for fellow survivors, where two that were on death hook got out because I had the ability and resources to trade and protect them throughout the match. I try to avoid detection from the killer, yes, but I do so to progress the game and do my best to help my team where it matters. If everybody has hook states and I don't, I will do everything in my power short of throwing the game to guarantee I'm the one hooked next instead of them.

Also, hard disagree on chases being the fun part. I've gotten relatively good with leading chases, but I absolutely do not enjoy them at all. The gens are the fun part, because what I enjoy doing most is working towards objectives. If there were more reliable ways to break a chase outside of being downed I would enjoy them more, but that loops back around to my original point of there being too many ways to shut down stealth.

You’re not supposed to win every chase, that’s by design of the game, the killer runs 15% faster than you. You get three hook states for a reason. There are also plenty of perks, builds and playstyles that can help you escape chases more often.

By all means enjoy what you enjoy and play how you like and I don’t want to come off like I’m telling you not to do what you find enjoyable, but to say that gens are more fun than chases is a little puzzling to me. There’s no actual meaningful interaction to be found with gens.

Mindgames, pathing, gauging distance correctly, optimizing your movement in loops, hitting hard fast vaults, etc. There’s just so much depth to the chase in this game and that’s why people have thousands and thousands of hours in this game. Every chase is different and keeps you on your toes.

  • This whole problem could simply be solved by not allowing the most oppressive and unenjoyable strategies to not only be the easiest strategies but also basekit for every killer in the game.

Disincentivize strategies that are widely seen as extremely unenjoyable and balance accordingly after the fact.

Why anyone wouldn’t want the game to be in a more enjoyable state for both sides baffles me. We’re all playing the same game and the vast majority of people play both sides.

  • I play the game to actually play the game, I’d rather not waste 10+ minutes doing nothing in the limited time I have to play.

  • I don’t want to speak for Ayo but I think he’s clearly joking here

BHVR cant design everything for new players? Excuse me...

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/25EIC6FVIXDP/200w.gif

What exactly is design for new players? Name one thing. Tutorial? Pretty bad. Tons of Maps, Perks, Killer, structures, techs ect ect to learn? Sure thing. Questionable Ballancing? Absolutly. Millions upon Millions of Bloodpoints to spend to get anything decent? You can bet on that.

And now, a killer that is designed the dumbest way possible for beginners. They easily suffer the most, while experience players have it much more chill, even in comparison. They should reverse it that you cant look at it rather then look at it. That would actually be much smarter and would put a layer on it we have not seen yet.

And dont make me even start with the Hux thingy. SWF already have an advantage over solo, but in particular with this killer.

    "Going from main to shack"

"Roger roger, i destroy the Hux there for you"

Ooo that’s a fantastic idea actually, not looking at him to get rid of the weakened state would actually be really interesting IMO.

Kind of goes against his lore but I think this would be a great change to help out newer players and put more experienced players in a unique spot compared to how everyone else is played against.

This has been a friendly discussion so far so please, lets not start throwing stuff like that around. Ofc a lot of people are capable of basic things like looking behind them, the issue is how much it has to happen in conjunction with other things. I can play against a lot of his powers, but its the fact that his power has so many different oppressive capabilities that people like me are finding an issue.

Anyways, the rest of this is for everyone else lmao.

There's been a lot of good advice here on how to play against parts of his power, but I'm still having a hard time playing against his whole power all at once. Dodging a UVX while also keeping an eye on the killer every 1.25 seconds while having to change my pathing away from the next loop while also having to keep in mind the hallucinations in the way and if/when i make it to the loop I've gotta think about how close I am to the wall all at the same time is difficult. When I am hooked on his way away from the hook a hallucination spawns and essentially camps me. Sure my teammate could dispel it but A) it could be hidden or B) its a soloq brain donor who treats it like a doctor's hallucination. I'm on a gen with a helmet on and no line of sight to him and suddenly I'm hit with a spit ball and injured for free. A hallucination I didn't notice while healing someone suddenly comes to life and downs us both. These are just a few examples of where his power shines, I can't think of any other killer who's power shines in so many situations like this.

He may have little control over when the hallucinations spawn, but he does have control over where. They spawn where he is, and unless he's walked off to the middle of nowhere then that location is most likely somewhere useful to him. His teleportation power is very strong.

His UVX does take 2 hits. It takes 10 seconds to dispel and 7 seconds to charge. In a normal loop setting you cannot see the killer constantly, meaning that 10 seconds to dispel can easily become 14 seconds even if you look at the killer as often as possible, giving him a 2nd shot. I saw an argument that breaking line of sight makes it hard for him to hit his shots - but I would argue that its still easier than any other ranged killer (except maybe PH) as A) he can bounce his projectile and B) it has an effect through walls. His UVX is undeniably powerful.

Another thing I've noticed and not brought up is his addons. They're very good. On one hand, finally a killer with addons that aren't a joke! On the other hand, his brown addons are stronger than some killers purple ones. It is very realistic to expect every Unknown to bring addons that have another powerful effect. This is just adding to the overall point of this post, why does he have so much stuff? Give a mutant a chainsaw and you've got a great killer. Give a drug addict some speed and a concussion and you've got a great killer. Give a dead girl the ability to go fast but not see anyone, just hear them, and you've got a great killer. These are all powerful killers with simple to understand powers, why does this guy need so much?

You’re 100% correct in saying that he’s definitely way more complex than the average killer. This has been a trend for them in their more recent releases. Take Skull Merchant as an example, she’s not exactly a super strong killer in a vacuum, but she just has so much going on that the average player won’t be able to just intuitively counter her.

I fully agree that I think it’s a strange design choice to have you have to look behind you in chase to get rid of weakened and is unfair to less experienced players. Actively rewarding experienced players for doing something they typically already do mid-chase and punishing players who have yet to fully learn it is a bit puzzling. I guess you could say maybe they’re trying to nudge newer players in the right direction by getting them to learn how to do this? But this just feels like a backhand more than being helpful. It makes him disproportionately stronger against these players compared to more experienced ones, which lands him in a weird spot balance wise.

I will say though, that once he settles into the game I think way more and more people will realize that getting rid of the hallucinations is a very good counterplay to his map control, and you may even see some people dedicate themselves to going around and dispelling them similar to how people do this with Trapper and Hag.

As for his UVX, I’ve found that playing as and against him the best counterplay have been the people who are almost treating me like I’m playing Artist. Unpredictable pathing when pulling the shot out and leaving tiles as to not let the hallucination build up and put them in a tough situation. Keeping distance is key as the shot itself is rather slow and reactable at a distance compared to up close at loops.

If you haven’t already, I’d also recommend playing as him yourself. I’ve been having a blast playing as him, I’ve been waiting for a physics based character for quite a while and the bounce shots and orbital shots can be immensely satisfying to land. I also think that playing as a certain killer gives me the best ways to learn how to counter them as you can see what successful players are doing against you to counter you.

Good luck! Also appreciate the depth and respectfulness of your posts :)

Well, for ones, thanks for taking my concerns serious and not making fun of me. Second, while it is a bit whataboutism, it still stems from the same root: players being aweful to each other just to griev. And claiming that waiting at the exit gates only takes half as long is about as ingenious as you can get: I might have bleed out inentionally as a survivor probably less then 5 times total, yet I would be hard pressed to remember 5 games as a killer, where survivors didn't wait at the exit gates for extended periods of time; the two aren't in the same ball park, not by a mile.

But you are also mistaking me, I am not advocating to keep bleeding out just because I want some revenge on some bullies, I just wanted to raise awareness at this isses that basically every single killer faces oh so regularly. The survivors time spend bleeding out purposefully is but a minute fraction of the time survivors waste of killers time, so it would be pretty nice to change both sides ability to BM. (Hint: even though I identify as a killer main, I play a good portion of my time as survivor, too, somewhat between 65/35 and 70/30% ... shocking, I know).

It’s not an issue when it’s something that’s fully under your control. It’s a video game, if someone teabagging you at the exit gate really makes you that upset, you’re probably taking it too seriously.

Just force them out, this a false equivalence. You have zero agency when being bled out, you have full control as killer at all times.

  • Just did the math

Your odds of successfully not escaping from the hook using slippery meat 6 times a game paired with ante up (a 7% chance to escape) is 1.645 x 10 ^-17 power, aka a literal statistical anomaly.

I’ll even be nice and assume you’re just grossly hyperbolizing, let’s say you ran it 10 games in a row with up the ante and tried 6 times per game to get off the hook.

You have a 0.00134% chance to not get off the hook…

Theres no need to lie about this bro lol

  • With Up the Ante and Slippery Meat you’re telling me you never once Kobe’d in 200 games?

  • Nah there’s just no way lmao.

The statistical anomaly you must be for this to happen is actually just not even possible

  • I would love to see offerings and add-ons in general just be lessened.

There's so many offerings on both sides that just absolutely clutter up the bloodwebs and every update it just gets worse and worse. I believe (not 100% sure) that they said that bloodweb improvements are on the road-map, so hopefully we get something that will help alleviate this problem.

I legit went two prestiges on Sable without seeing a Bloody Party Streamers...

Well, all 4096 comments later and we didn't ever get that Optimization; so I'm not sure that another hundred page thread is a great idea.

Hahahaha that still might be the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen with this game. I remember checking that thread every day with actual hope we'd get a response. Call me a hopeless idealist 😅

I will say that I think Unknown is fine for Console, he just sucks in general.

He's just not very good, which is a shame.

I'm actually having a blast playing him so far, the AOE is very forgiving for us console players.

You're totally right though, being able to get rid of weakened mid-chase and having like a 2-3 second window to hit them with a follow up feels really bad sometimes.

PS. You might have to start another 100 page long thread that ends up getting no dev response for more controller options ;)

    Good times....

I think it's easier to name the Killers that aren't as good as they are on PC.

    Nurse

    Hag

    Huntress

    Oni

    Deathslinger

    Pyramid Head

    Blight

    Nemesis

    Wesker

    Xeno

    Chucky

Jury is out on Unknown. He seems alright so far.

I personally find a lot of success on Pyramid Head, Nemesis, Wesker and Xeno but can't deny that they're for sure easier / better on PC than console.

If only they'd add more controller options after 8 years of the game being out... 🙃

Lets not lie though slippery meat is still the worst perk in the game.

Slippery meat with luck offerings is actually not too bad but I’m not gonna argue that it’s not terrible lol

I’ve done a little of that, especially with survivor. I realized after watching some pro streamers play as a survivor, i don’t have completely outrun a killer, just line of sight him and hide behind something, then when the killer is checking lockers or something sneak away. Works some of the times.

Yup, a big tip for survivor is to make use of your third person camera and using what a lot of people call "check spots". These are areas where you are out of sight of the killer, can see him coming from both sides and have time to react when they do eventually come.

A good tip for survivor as well when in chase is to learn how to angle your camera where you almost always have sight of the killer. Definitely a bit difficult to get used to at first but once you learn this, your chases will be so much better for it.

If you're looking for good survivors to level up so you can get their perks unlocked on all your survivors, I would recommend saving up your shards (the blue currency in the top right of your screen, you get these by simply playing the game and leveling up!) to 4,500 and buying Kate Denson with them. She has a perk called Windows of Opportunity that will show you where the nearest windows and pallets are, a great perk for beginners to help you know where to run to in chase and learn the maps better.

Good luck with everything and hope you enjoy the game! Don't try to take it too seriously at the start, there is for sure a pretty big learning curve when starting this game, so don't fret too much if you're not getting the results you want right away, they'll come with time :)

Edit: Also noticed in your initial post you saying the FOV is too close. They actually just dropped a feature in the "Beta" options that lets you adjust your FOV from the base of 87 degrees up to 103 degrees! Highly recommend doing this if you haven't already.

Haddonfield is survi sided we all know it, but leaving aside the houses it has too many dead zones that are of great advantage to spirit. Toba is "small" but is full of structures and it has a high ambient noise and we are talnking about a killer that depend on vision and hearing. And that you say the spirit is the 3rd strongest killer is your personal opinion.

I would say that most of the community agrees that she’s at the very least top 5.

There are plenty and plenty of killers that deserve buffs before Spirit does IMO

I have no experience of the perk for or against, but surely a switched on killer will cotton on that you're working your magic in the basement when he keeps seeing gens progressed but nobody on or near them?

It doesn't progress the gens, rather just removes 10 charges from it instead like a BNP.

If you don't have a slowdown perk, you have to really play really serious and dirty to not get completely steam rolled.

This isn't personal, I just see it often and wanted to touch base.

Do you really believe this? If you dont bring a few regression perks, you're screwed unless you play sweaty?

My pool of players who are still left and myself often chat up things from the forums, and this talking point is only spoken of by killers. you do NOT have to play like that to win. I refuse to run slowdown and do fine. With Trapper. So I'd just like clarification why this keeps getting brought up, and I know @UndeddJester is well spoken and can deliver a good synopsis, if you'd be so kind.

I'd likely be your personal view, but thats fine, I'd love to hear it! :)

That's kind of you to say, I genuinely appreciate that. 🙃

I suppose my point is short really, though if I were to say "if I don't take a slowdown perk, things start to get noticably tougher", it wouldn't be useful, so I guess the best thing I can do is give insight into my playstyle, as a player who has only really known modern DBD and it's recent states of balance.

I speak mostly from my own experience as a relatively new 1000 hour player, and as someone with a fairly unhealthy amount of content watching. I have managed to adept every killer/survivor and complete every achievement within that time, and I regularly make attempts to pick a perk and then try to make a build around it. I have also made pretty decent headway on a lot of the tomes/challenges within the game, and I also usually operate with that old school "I might need it later" gamer mentality of rarely using strong add-ons on either side... I'm also cheap 😏

Throughout that time I've always had the same mindset, always play to win for the first 10 hooks... however, try not to tunnel (usually give 1 clear "I will let you run away in the opposite direction if I find you first" chance), try not to camp, usually waiting until hook 6 before I sacrifice anyone. I don't particularly get enjoyment from winning by crushing my opponents, I get far more enjoyment when I feel I've played well and put in a respectable performance, preferably with a close score. Usually I only take a 4k when I feel the 4th player has been egregiously selfish and left their team to die. This is also to say, my favourite killers tend to be the not so strong killers, like Trapper, Myers, Nemesis and of course Pig (I also like how I can be clever and quirky with builds on these characters).

I've of course gone against absolute bambis, both as a bambi, and now as a more experienced player, and I've of course been thrown into the meat grinder and gone against absolute monster survivors who make me look like a total fool at every turn, and been lucky to get out with more than 2 or 3 hooks.

All of this is to say, that in that time of playing the modern game of DBD (I've only been playing less than a year), it is absolutely possible to win while taking absolutely no slowdown perks... however every small mistake, every lost 50/50 against a reasonably good team catches up with you very quickly, and the snowball effect of a single bad chase is very high without some kind of slowdown, to the point you have to switch gear and start viciously defending a 3 gen if you still have one (which ofc is a problem to do now 😅).

When not running any slowdown perks, it is my experience that every game will come down to 1 gen almost every time, almost irrespective of how well you play, unless hou are playing a naturally very strong killer with auras, such as Spirit or Wesker (I suck at Blight and Nurse, but you get the point). Survivors have to be really wasting time in order for this not to be case, and this has also been my perspective as Survivor as well. Many times I've looked at killer builds after they've been smashed, and noted that they've either lacked slowdown, the slowdown doesnt synergise well with their killer, or they didn't actually use their slowdown effectively throughout the game.

We've all seen those games where a killer has had a slightly slow start, goes for their 2nd hook is already down 3 generators with a 4th well underway, and as player who makes a point of not playing nasty, it doesn't take much to get in this situation. As a rule of thumb, to be on good pace for killer you should be aiming for roughly 2 hooks per generator if you don't want to be scrambling at end game.

So I suppose my conclusion is, yes, with enough skill you can play without slowdown perks, but against survivors of equal skill, you better not make a single mistake of mess around, because it will snowball very quickly out of control, and from my perspective, you should be going into a non slowdown game knowing you're gonna have to step your game up 😁

I know I have nothing to do with this conversation, but just wanted to say I appreciate how well spoken and respectful both of you are. Your replies are always a joy to read :)

  • Also regresses when you attempt to leave if the killer were for example to go to the basement / hook someone in the basement, and super fast as well, like sloppy butcher fast.

The first time I tried the perk I got 90 seconds in, let go for 4 seconds to check if they were hooking basement, and lost easily 20 seconds of progress...

No joke the worst perk to hit DbD live servers in history.

  • I'd recommend watching some gameplay / tutorials of some experienced players and trying to learn from what they do, IMO that is the quickest way to learn how the game flows and how to win chases.

DbD is not an easy game to pick up, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes much more enjoyable

I'd say I see more survivors asking for the "fair" 50/50 they call the 50% escape chance.

Quickly opened a graphic calculator webpage and wrote this down:

    • x = escape chance (the chance for a survivor to win)
    • (1-x)^4) + 4 * (1-x)^3 * x = chance for 4k and 3k combined (the chance for a killer to win)
    • 6 (1-x)^2 * x^2 = chance to 2k (the chance for the k
    • x^4 + 4 x^(3) * (1-x) = Chance for 0k and 1k combined (commonly refered to as survivor "team" win)

With a 40% escape chance we get:

    • 47.25% chance for a killer win
    • 34.56% chance for a draw
    • 17.92% for a survivor "team" win
    • The Killer has a 1.188 times higher chance to win than each individual Survivor.

With a 50% escape chance we get:

    • 31.25% chance for a killer win
    • 37.5% chance for a draw
    • 31.25% for a survivor "team" win
    • Each individual survivor has a 1.6 times higher chance to win than the killer.
    • Yes, this is a "fair" 50/50 or like 31.25/31.25 for the survivor "team" and the killer.

Thank you for this input and double checking my math!

I believe the discrepancy comes from a different interpretation of survivors escape rates, mine coming from a 40% chance of an individual escaping, while yours comes from a 40% chance of the team escaping.

An entirely valid way of interpreting the statistics as I'm not 100% sure if the devs clarified or not whether the 40% survival escape rate was for an individual or a team. If it is indeed a team escape rate, your version is 100% the correct way of interpreting the statistics. Thank you again for this!

  • It's the same realm as Garden of Joy, so the Withered Isle offering will give you a 50/50 shot to play it.

Not a good comparison as those perk can activate multiple times. I feel like a better comparison would be no way out. Both are endgame perks, activate one time and reward you for playing well

This is a much more fair comparison, both reward you in the end-game for doing your objective during the course of the match.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/408147/has-anyone-figured-out-counterplay-to-the-unknown-yet

In regards to your first part about how you can't look and dodge. How do you play against huntress, pyramid head, deathslinger and trickster? Do you just yolo it and not look behind you? Functionally they are the same in that regard, but the difference is that the unknown has to hit you twice. Compared to those though, the unknowns projectile is quite slow and easy to dodge when you see it coming. It is however harder to dodge when you can't see it coming, which is part of the point of the power.

As for the teleport powers, yeah the unknown's teleport is really good, but its also not easy to set your teleports exactly where you want to go. Freddy teleports directly to gens which is very strong (and honestly his only power at this point) and demo can choose specifically where to set the teleports, and doesn't have to wait for some difficult determined time to set another portal.

In short, different killers are gonna be different. There are positives and negatives to every killer, even as you mentioned.

    This ^^

The Unknown is strong, but I wouldn't consider him close to overpowered as long as you can get rid of the weakened state mid-chase. If you're looking at him during chase you're essentially giving him around a 2 second window to hit you with a follow up shot before you get rid of the weakened state.

Just make sure that you're doing your best to stay out of his direct line of sight and keep your camera on him.

Also, try not to hug loops super tight as he can hit you through the wall on certain tiles like shack, long walls, and long fences on Badham for example.

If a Gen is blocked it cannot be progressed or regressed - so yes, this is not a bug but by design of the perk.

Is it also intentional that the invocation loses progress like sloppy butcher? The perk is way too weak for this to be intended.

Also, this may be the funniest post I’ve seen on this forum in years.

    And suddenly mmr matters.

A 2k is a loss because you didnt win and theres no other team that didnt lose.

It'd be different if the scoring officially was like in IdV but it isnt. (3+ escapes as win for all survivors)

    A 2k is 2 survivor wins, 2 lossses and a killer loss.

This makes no logical sense and seems like an argument out of personal feeling, not reality.

Draws exist whether you want to believe it or not. A 2k is quite literally a draw for killer, I’m not talking about survivor, haven’t this whole discussion.

    “Suddenly MMR matters”

Yes lol, that’s how this games matchmaking system works

Ok so dbd wasn't my first priority, I have done nothing but meet with insurance people, get basic necessities for my family, try to get things in order that I can at the moment and have cried alot. I was sitting in the waiting room while my son was in a appointment and figured I would just ask the question while I had a free minute there. Also there's only so much I can do in a day while sitting in a hotel room since I have no where to go while my insurance works on things.

No need to explain yourself man, I’d be looking for some escapism too if I were in your shoes.

Best of luck with everything and hope you can find some comfort.

A draw occurs if all participants dont fulfill the win condition. 2 survivors win 2 lose, theyre not an united team.

Does the killer draw against the 2 winners or losers? Nope the killer loses in a 2k.

Unlike Identity V, dbd doesnt judge and score the survivors as a team the killer could draw against.

A 2k is considered a draw by admission of the devs and how the MMR system works...

If you 2k as a killer you neither move up or down in MMR, a draw.

1 2 3 4 5 … 25
