Obviously it was for stricter matchmaking, however the point is if you want it accurate to that amount you will get this result, that statement stays true, it is probably still not really equal in that sense, people will just have to play sweatier, but do you really want to see Otz play comp level sweaty for 50 matches in a row? That does not sound too interesting if I am being honest, there are only so many killers that are interesting to look at at this level, and I don't think a single m1 killer is one of them, so half the killers would already be boring to watch...
I don't think anyone wants it restricted to that extent. I'm sure BHVR received the feedback on that loud and clear.
Anyway, I've just seen that Mandy confirmed in another thread that they raised the soft cap a few weeks back. Which is what Otz theorised happened. I don't agree with Otz on alot, but I agree with him that raising the soft cap primarily impacts those in high MMR (those who are competitive and want to win) while the impact on the casual (majority) player base will probably be negligible. You may feel it'll make for boring streams, but not everyone watches streams or cares about the experience of content creators. They just want to play and have a chance at a win once in awhile.

15 min would be fine, Dowsey queued for 2 h and didn't find a match, that is not fine... You do realise the difference. But yeah sure I would find that amound of queue time fine, however in the survey they BHVR did basically nobody wanted to wait longer than 8 minutes for a match... sooooo We're in the minority here.
What you're ignoring is that BHVR did those tests over the course of a week and only on *one* of those days did some streamers have long wait times, such as Dowsey's two hour wait. That was obviously excessively restricted matchmaking. I watched Otz's stream last night to hear his concerns on the matter, and he did not have extended wait times.

Ok? Doesn't change the point that he does not care that much about winning to change the way he plays right?
And I'm saying he doesn't have to change the way he plays, so I'm not sure what your point is tbh. He can keep playing the way he plays. Stricter MMR doesn't mean he can't.
We don't even know that BHVR have actually touched the SBMM, these streamers are only theorising based on the fact that they've had a slew of difficult games, ie losses. Their response is to film these videos and tell us why they aren't happy. I'm inclined to think these apparent losses bother them a bit, but I guess agree to disagree.

Nope not at all, he even said that if he tunneled or played sweatier he would still win, but he doesn't care about winning therefore he doesn't so no, he is not upset about his losses...
If MMR is stricter - ie more accurate - then he should presumably settle in a bracket where he can continue to play chill and not worry about whether he wins or loses. The only difference would be that he'd be playing with people closer to his own skill level which he seemingly doesn't want. And his argument rests on the idea that killers play nice with less experienced players, but who is gonna tell these killers that they need to play nice?

My take (rant incoming): the DbD community sucks. How weak of a mindset does one have to have that something immediately becomes "unfun" if they have to think and try to win? It's a community-wide mentality. I swear most DbD players have never competed in anything in their lives. You're a bad sport if you think it's ok to face weaker players and win all the time without really trying. I don't choke out white belts in BJJ, because that's a crappy thing to do.
I straight up think most content creators are lying when they say DbD is unfun when matchmaking is strict. It's the same game at its core. Unless people's nerve endings are really so fried that standing next to a hook for 30 seconds sometimes is just too long and non-negotiable. Maybe I'm a boomer and time is relative.
To be clear, this isn't directed at Scott or anyone in particular. I think the DbD community is mostly weak-minded when it comes to competition. There is nothing wrong with being casual and chill about the game. But you need to be ok with losing to people who take it seriously if that's the case. The DbD community wants to have their cake and eat it too.
"I straight up think most content creators are lying when they say DbD is unfun when matchmaking is strict"
I think it's because it affects their job at the end of the day.
Lots of content creators run popular YouTube channels. People subscribe and watch their videos because they're presented as being the best of the best and at a level that others aspire to reach. MMR being stricter means potentially less favourable content for them to share, but it also makes their gaming experience look similar to that of the average player. For example - they love their winstreak videos, those draw in lots of views. Tighter MMR means those will be harder to achieve and that popular content, which literally provides their income, may now be taken from them.
-
Re gen defence (assuming you mean 3 genning?) it's not actually about that specific killer. It's about being forced into a long ass game with little to no return for your time being wasted. Regardless, everyone has different preferences. Nurse is hated by alot of people but I actually like going against her. I find Pinhead frustrating, not because of the killer himself but because good teamwork is necessary to play against him and that's hit and miss when it comes to solo queue.
-
I've dug up this dev post, because I feel like the highlighted bit in particular is relevant. Maybe the matchmaking system actually wasn't working (which alot of us suspected) and now it finally will be. I thought that's what we, as a general community, wanted.
-
He's used to winning and is now upset that he's taking some losses... I can't with this community sometimes.

Reminds me why I stopped watching DBD content creators.
But yeah, the panic is real, high skilled players realized that there are high skilled survivors in pub matches. Poor preferential matchmaking spoiled folks.
Doesn't change anything, SBMM is still complete and utter garbage at putting similarly skilled people against one another.
Yeah I'm watching Hens stream and from what I've gathered it seems like, from his observation, higher MMR killers are getting matched with experienced swfs or higher MMR solo players pretty much exclusively now. I'm still waiting for dev confirmation before I buy it, but it seems like maybe baby survivors and baby killers won't have to worry about getting steamrolled anymore by more experienced players if this change is true. The sweats will play with the sweats.

Yup, will always throw my support behind this

@Beatricks said:
Okay, I can actually confirm with a 95% degree of certainty that such a statement cannot possibly be true.
Why? Because I've actually been keeping tabs!
During the Halloween event, I played 117 Survivor matches. Out of those, I escaped 4 times, twice with the aid of hatch and twice through the exit gates. That means, that over the course of about two weeks, I've lost 113 trials which is a 96.6% loss rate. Why am I making a joke out of myself? Because besides from the whole pointing at Beatricks and saying "git gud noob" there is the undeniable fact that my MMR should have plummeted to the ground.
What do we know of the hockey based MM? For one, that once you reach 1600 MMR, you CANNOT go below it, to avoid smurfing (oh the irony, but we will get to that). Now, I've previously played in the same lobbies as: Otzdarva (once as a fellow survivor), Hens (twice, once against his Demo and once as a fellow survivor), Knightlight (twice as a fellow survivor), Tru3 (faced him as a killer) and those are just the names I recognize. This makes me absolutely certain that I have passed the 1600 magical MMR threshold, so now I'm stuck with the big boys/girls/others.
We also know that 1800 MMR is the soft cap, above that, it is treated in the same manner as exactly 1800 points. There is also a 200 point matchmaking tolerance threshold, so the moment you reach 1600, you can go up against Supalf, Lilith Omen, etc, people who have maxed out their MMR even before that was a thing.
Yesterday, I had the misfortune of playing against a TTV Blight, whose 194th win in a row included my lobby. Now with 194 consecutive wins, I'm very hard pressed to believe that he was anything underneath 1800. I wouldn't be surprised if he was well above that when he started his win streak.
So, MMR is working in the same way as it has been. 1800+ high MMR monsters that could potentially win against tourney teams like eternal are sealclubbing 1600~ish little potatoes like myself.
And while I'm not keeping score now after the event, I can tell you that around 8 out of 10 games is a very easy 4k for the Killer because both me and my teammates go down relatively quickly since most Killers we face are high prestige and also high skill Nurses, Blights, Weskers, Spirits etc. Then we get one or two Killers who struggle for a 1-2k if they can even get it and we are back to BHVR endorsed smurffest.
Why are Otz and Scott saying this? I saw that Otz had a rough time with Hillbilly on Haddonfield when he couldn't get a single curve or his Dredge game where he got destroyed after making a bunch of mistakes, but none of those teams were even close to some of the killsquads I've seen on Killer, 4xP100 with 4 BNPs and Garden of Pain offering, no weak links, all running the best perks and utilizing checkspots with great expertise in predicting mindgames.* Are we really at a point where if a content creator has a bad day against a team that isn't a complete potato mixture something must be wrong?
I haven't been watching content creators, so I might be missing vital details here and I would appreciate any links. But the part about tighter matchmaking? Blatantly untrue.
*= And after playing against a team that feels like Eternal, my next match the first survivor will give up on first hook because I ran Lethal and found them leading to a braindead 4k.
Just to clarify - because I don't watch content creators YTs, I only watch their live streams - Otz is saying he think MMR has been tightened simply because he went up against a couple strong teams? If so, then yeah, that's not proof of anything. It sounds like a clickbait video. I'll wait for dev confirmation.
Edit: hopped on Hens stream and he's talking about it too. I guess they know something we don't? But some people have asked for proof and there apparently isn't any so it seems like it's just observations being made.

I believe they're not in the business of nerfing Killers right now.
They've added more Killer haste perks, significant buffs to chase perks like Coup De Grace, Cruel Limits and Furtive Chase, some weird buffs to add ons that nobody asked for, like the one to Legion's BBFs purple add on (thanks?). Presumably all justified as necessary counters to MFT. Fair enough, I guess. Some were needed regardless of MFT's existence (like Trapper's haste buff).
But have they gone a bit too far with it? If anything, they've doubled down on haste for Killers.
Killers get to go zoomies with all these added speed boosts, all the while Survivors are getting kneecapped back to the pre MFT days.
Doesn't make much sense to me... I want to know what the thinking is at BHVR, to be honest.
Combined with the recent map reworks that all involve the cutting down of pallets and increase in deadzones. It confuses me too, especially with solo being in the position it's in (ie. kill rate fodder)

I don't think that will happen, people have already been voicing concerns about how Chucky will be unfun for survivors if he hits live the way he is in the ptb. If they address those issues, I believe many people will be happy with Chucky.
In the end it's not about how strong a killer is, but how much counterplay they allow survivors to have in chase.
It really just comes down to killrates for the devs. If he's overperforming then they'll adjust accordingly. If he's underperforming then they'll adjust accordingly. Too many people take killer changes way too personally when the devs are just looking at numbers.
-
Maybe Demo, since Surge is massively popular. So new players won't have access to it without paying. Steve and Nancy's perks are pretty good for the most part but I think survivors can take them or leave them really.
-
Overcome
-
I actually tried this combo the other day and came to the same conclusion that it doesn't need the cooldown.
-
Seems the same as always to me. Played 3 games, got steamrolled at 5 gens in two games and killer DCd in the third (not sure why, they had 6 hooks and 3 gens to go so the game could have gone either way but ah well).

Not holding my breath on that one

You: I got this great story where my teammate was using Calm Spirit, so I got chased instead
What do you know, our experiences differ! I have plenty of team mates who don't help with chase, with or without stealth perks. Not because of them.
-
I ended up giving up on Switch. It became clear enough that I had reached the point where I wasn't going to get any better because of the limitations of playing on the Switch. I ended up moving fully to the PS5, which I had pretty much only used to play killer on occasion. I figured survivor surely wouldn't be that different on either console but once I actually played survivor on PS5 I couldn't go back to the Switch. I feel for you, it really is so bad.

Calm Spirit and Distortion are the two biggest problems in the game... and they should be deleted, reworked, or heavily nerfed.
Perks shouldn't make it super easy for survivors to excessively hide, because it just encourages the killer to tunnel out the other survivors. It also encourages survivors to never help with chases, and to just watch everyone else get sacrificed.
Survivors that excessively hide are awful for everyone else in the game. It's frustrating for killers. And when I'm playing survivor I NEVER EVER want these people in my games, because it means I either need to play the game excessively safe (which can drag out the game to 30+ minutes when all the survivors are doing this), or I need to just accept the fact that I won't escape because the killer will find me over and over before finding any of these excessive hiders.
And as survivor, it's often frustrating having excessively hiding teammates, because they often aren't repairing as much as they should, because they only want to repair if the survivor HUD shows the killer chasing someone else. Or they'll excessively pre-leave generators at the first sight of a visual terror radius, which also means the generators are barely getting repaired.
Gonna take a stab in the dark and guess you play with aura perks and Ultimate Weapon? As a survivor main, neither of those perks are bothersome to me when my team mates have them. Played with an Adam the other day who had Calm Spirit, and the two of us were working on a gen. I screamed and the killer came our way, so I ran off and instigated chase and the killer didn't even check the gen so Adam continued uninterrupted. It was great for the team.

The thing is there really isn't much that is too strong on either side. There is a massive amount of perks that are weak to almost detrimental to run. If you nerf the top 2-3 perks on each side, almost nothing changes. You have to keep in mind that a large amount if not the majority of perk complaints come from a place where players just don't like facing the perk because it impedes what they want to do, not because it's actually too strong. If you nerf those perks, they just complain about the next thing that impedes them until what's left is a soup of stuff that really doesn't do much.
If you buff the bottom perks though you open up new options. New options means more players taking different perks. This varies the meta. The more you work from the bottom up the better your diversity becomes.
"You have to keep in mind that a large amount if not the majority of perk complaints come from a place where players just don't like facing the perk because it impedes what they want to do, not because it's actually too strong"
Spot on. It's like the folks who run full aura builds, they feel Distortion is too strong. But to the killers who don't run any aura perks, Distortion is meaningless and a waste of that survivor's perk space.
Buffing bottom up is the way to go imo too. If there's more variety to pick from (that actually *helps*) then people will be less likely to run into those perks that annoy them so much.

I main Zarina but don't buy every cosmetic of hers. I think I only bought her Visions of the Future cosmetic this year. Likewise if a really nice cosmetic comes out for a character i don't play often, I sometimes will buy it and it'll kick-start me playing them more. I basically just buy what I like. I hadn't touched Feng on my current platform until the Halloween event because I loved the pumpkin dress lol
-
No, it's just solo queue. It feels like a combo of both because pretty much every killer runs Pain Res. But it's just the standard solo experience.
-
The devs have said that setting up a 3gen from the start of the game isn't how the game was intended to be played, so they're currently in the process of making a mechanic to stop it from happening. So just put up with it for now.
-
They've addressed this before. Sometimes posts don't explicitly break a rule but they're borderline and to be safe the mods will remove it. It's happened to me a few times.

I use it on the odd occasion. Usually when I get frustrated and have to play in a way that is unusual for me lol like doing that Feng escape challenge in the current tome. you mentioned controller setting though? I know there is at least a bug regarding some killers powers (eg preventing you from repel artists crows) when you have specific input binds changed. So if you actually can’t drop it anywhere you might need to look at these?
Yeah input bindings is what I was referring to re controller settings. I'll check them tomorrow when I'm on next just in case that played a role. I played against an Artist today without issue so can't say I've had issues with killers powers thankfully

Thanks everyone! Since it's just me I'm not entirely sure it's a bug, it's possible I was just trying to place it on a tile that I couldn't. No wonder my team mate was just staring at me 🤣 at least the killer was nice to me. He probably wanted me to get the bonus points escaping with the mirror.

I wouldn't ignore them the entire game, but I wouldn't immediately down them and hook them at the start either. I give them a minute or so. Stuff happens. Pets, kids, spouses, etc. The killers who immediately down and hook AFK players at the start are really, really weird to me.
Yeah it's 50/50 in my survivor games. Half will give the afkers a few minutes to come back while the other half will down and hook. I've never had one leave an afker to the end of the game though... kind of smart, yet I can see why the person who actually played the game would get frustrated. Ultimately though it's the afker ruining the match.

I feel like this is a big misperception. Most survivors move on when they're sacrificed because they just want to get to their next game. Most don't have any interest in hanging around until endgame just to say ggs. Killers are always there until the end of the match, so it feels like those who lose aren't being good sports. Those who win are also always there at the end of the game, so those are who the killer is likely going to communicate with.

Irrelevant, it belongs to a character that was released in early 2020 so the perk was not used as bait for people to buy a new chapter.
On that note, I'm keen to see what perks the upcoming (seemingly non-licensed) survivor-only chapter has. I won't be buying but interested into whether they'll have strong perks to start with and nerfed later, or just mediocre perks and the selling point will be something else, like gorgeous cosmetics.

If you want to win so hard, that is not a casual mindset.
Yeah, it's a common theme in this community. People don't like when their opponents come at them with the same energy that they themselves bring. There's certain folks I won't name of the 'your fun isn't my responsibility' variety, who readily admit to using everything at their disposal to ensure a win. They're the same ones coming here demanding nerfs to their opponents when they're suddenly not having fun.
