The match was wrapping up. I closed the hatch and went to break some remaining breakable walls and then switched my HDMI input to check Discord on PC.
When I switched back to the Xbox, it showed a disconnect symbol next to my profile banner and I have a matchmaking penalty barring me from queueing now.
A) I didn't disconnect!
B) Even if I DID... It would have had VERY LITTLE IMPACT that late in the game! Why bother with a penalty at that point??
My network's fine. Fix your servers. Please!

Maybe not switching your hdmi is the solution? Does it happen often in relation to you doing this?
As you said, the match was over. Why not wait the last few seconds before checking discord?
You mean wait around for another minute and half for the Bill to get bored of spamming loud noises and leave, like the rest of the survivors? No thanks.
Might just have to find something else to occupy yourself. Like when I get slugged and left to bleed out I'll fold and put away clothes, or do the dishes.

Imagine you get back from that and the game says you disconnected.
It does not matter WHAT the player was doing. Especially if the match is over!
Pretty sure the game kicks you if you afk for too long (especially as killer)
IIRC it's supposed to be some type of measure to prevent people from botting to lower their MMR. Sadly it means that you need to chase them out when they have no intention of finishing the game.

Are you sure? Because that would be a relatively new feature and I have not heard of it yet..
I've heard reports from multiple killer players getting disconnected for being afk. Haven't seen any confirmation so its mostly conjecture.
Haha it's definitely a good excuse. When I take the clothes off the line I dump them in the theatre room where I play so I can just reach over and start folding lol
Yeah it's like two minutes, then the game kicks the afk killer. Started something like three months back.
If that IS an actual feature, it needs to be disabled if all the gens have been completed.
Its a crappy situation, but at least once the gens are done you can open a gate to force the EGC. That'll set a hard timer for the match to end.
