  • What is happening is that Killer Player probably never uses that particular Killer option. Thus, with MMR running he/she put it in. They pulled a bunch of newbies because the Killer reads as a newbie, and to that Killer they are new. However, certain basic skills are common to all Killers and a Rank-1 with any Killer will know the basics well enough no matter who they play. That is why MMR should just STAY UP and let us all quickly adjust as the system learns.

  • I agree; don't take it off. Two days is not enough. Leave it up for a week, and if working well enough... just LEAVE it up.

To be fair, i did not respond you because i believed you were a troll all along (so i guess i was right).

At least i made your day slitghly better giving you some laughs i guess...

But being completely honest, is that so hard to believe that i just want a game to goof off and not be bursting my heart in high pressure; the game of choice in this case being Dbd?

Yes, it is hard to believe. You lied. You can't start a valid argument on a lie. You used hyperbole which is also a poor excuse for an argument. You better strap in and get used to it because eventually, probably sooner than later, MMR is here to stay. You should thank your lucky stars too because that way you and I will NEVER meet in a match. I will be busy having the fights of my life against all Red Rank (hopefully SWF) because that is what I want. You can simply choose to play DOWN to the level of Player you want to go against. MMR will serve all types.

As a last response i will give you before ignoring you:

Yes, "murder" is a strong word, but i stand by it. Only thing that can kill Dbd, is Dbd itself.

The amount of " :) " you use in a sarcastical manner just shows me how much of a condescending prick you are.

I really dont believe we are even on the same conversation, mainly because i think you are a infamous weird no life internet troll, and will keep this up as long as i keep giving you responses.

Yep. I wont be answering you directly no more, have a good one.

Ah... the long goodbye as you drive off into the sunset. I can't remember the last time I was so amused by a post. Whenever I see someone like you bail on a conversation leaving me and others behind with the pile of your nonsense arguments, I always think of this scene:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paS5yum2mr0

    I guess I'm a bit of a weird troll after all. ;)

  • If you are saying that there should be a button that if ALL REMAINING SURVIVORS push it within say 30 seconds of each other, they all immediately sacrifice to the Entity and the Killers gets credit for a full three hooks on everyone, sure... I'd be behind that. :)

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

It’s also exposed (to me anyway) a lot of survivors that have exploited the current existing matchmaking to heavily depip with the intent of (previously) stomping on newer/noob players (which they’re now NOT being matched with during the test).

I just went up against a Dwight that was one of the best loopers I have ever been up against while I was Doc. He was fully kitted out with T3 Adrenaline, BT, DH, and DS, and he was wearing paid cosmetics.

His rank? Just 19. And he was ridiculously skilled, reading/correctly guessing almost 100% of my moves.

I could’ve accepted the logic that perhaps it’s just a player that has deranked from not playing for many, many months. But to still have sharp skills like that after a really long break isn’t very plausible.

And this isn’t the first time in the past 48 hrs. I’ve had dozens of killer matches against extreme sweat squads only to be shocked at the post match results that there may only be one red rank survivor, and every body else is only between rank 20 to 16.

Yeah i’ve also had genuine baby survivors, poor dears (can’t even give them the hatch because they keep running for their terrified lives), but this other issue I’ve observed has been significant in the past day for me.

Oh yeah; these guys are out there in force. I hunt them for fun. Nothing pleases me more than running down mysteriously impotent Ranks with high Skills. :)

Also, i see you got a lot of posts...

This doesn't make any of your stances more entitled to righteousness than mine.

Well... the beauty about a post like yours is we will get to see if it has ANY weight in real time. You are a Chicken Little and have told us the sky is falling. :) MMR will MURDER the game you say... I say nonsense. Care to put a wager on who will be right? ;)

  • @AlexLuden said:

Firstly, you should know that i play this game regularly, 4 to 6 hours a day; not only that but i play both sides, and been playing since beta. You could say i am a veteran, and yet i never came to the forums to express my opinion about game changes (but sometimes i felt compelled to do so in the past mind you).

    My impressions as a killer:

As expected the first matches were totally rainbow matches, of course this was due to the calibration of the MMR, and i didnt see this as a problem at all. But...

After the calibration kicked in and i kept winning those matches i started to only face extremely efficient survivors.

This wouldnt be a problem, because i believe this is the point of MMR... But the matches started to get extremely stressful and dull. I AM NOT A TRY HARD KILLER MAIN MIND YOU, but i felt the need to be one!

Should i just sit back and relax watching 5 gens popping in 4 minutes in certain maps?

I got out of my way to play like a proper "sweaty" killer, not only that BUT, got out of my way to ask some survivors players i faced to give their opinion on the match, and of course a great portion said that i was playing like a scumbag, and didnt have fun at all.

What really broke my heart were the ones saying that they understood why i played like that...

I played during the testing: Pig, Demogorgon and Twins.

To finalize my thoughts on MMR as a killer.

I think it works as the devs intended, but for that reasons it forced me, a layed back veteran that gives mercy hatchs mores often than not, and sometimes full on lobby escape mercy when i am satisfied with my hooks, a reason to be a "sweat bag" because eventually i started to be paired with only crazely efficient survivors, making the game unenjoyable.

I have never faced so many good survivors in a short spam of hours like this, and at some point i thought Dbd had become a ranked game with no rewards whatsoever.

    My impressions as a Survivor:

Well... This is where the real problem is at i would say...

My survivors matches were a NIGHTMARE after a certain point, straight up torture to keep on playing...

I will give a disclaimer: I am not a TRY HARD ENTITLED SURVIVOR MAIN!

I dont want to escape every round, i dont think killers should let hook saves happen when people blatanly runs towards the hooks, and although i get pissed (like everybody else would i believe) when i get straight up tunelled and taken out of the game, i find it to be necessary sometimes!

All that beeing said... I only faced extremely "sweaty", focused, try hardin killers! And could i blame them??? NO!

And as you expect 90% of it was the infamous Trio; Nurse, Spirit & Huntress... (But of course there were a significantly increase in Alchemist Ring's Blights!) .

You should know tha i play a lot in Duo, but also a great amount as a Solo. So even in my Duos matches i run these perks:

Bond, Spine Chill, Provethyself, Small Game.

Overall, terrible infuriating matches. Slugging losses at 4-3 gens. And escapes didnt felt good at all, after i nearly burst a eye vein trying my best to not be downed...

BUT WAIT, HERE IS THE PART I REALLY BELIEVE THE DEVS INTENDED!!!

Yes! All my teammates were on my level and the killer level of skill!

And what i have to say to that is: I WOULD TRADE! TRADE EVERY SINGLE GOOD TEAMMATE I HAD ON THESES MATCHES FOR A IMMERSED DWEET OR CLAUDETTE OR BOTH!!! TO HAVE A FUN MATCH!!!

... Dbd is a great game... I really do have a special feeling for this one, and Jeez... Nemesis!?? My other 2 favorite franchises are Devil May Cry and Resident Evil, so you can bet i was excited when the new chapter got announced... But now i have this strange weary wicked feeling that i may not be enjoying Dbd as much as i have enjoyed in the past.

As you may have noticed i am not a competitive person, NOT AT ALL! And i always loved Dbd for having this weird party game casual feeling! But this new MMR system made me feel like the game is possibly taking a completely different direction...

Ok so wrapping up my conclusion on MMR:

Probably people like me will go, straight up. The stress of tryhardin matches on Dbd is something else...

The MMR forces this to happen way too much! I can safely say that in the second day i didnt have one fun match... As a killer and Survivor... (AND DO NOT FORGET THAT FUN IN A MATCH TO ME IS NOT WINNING, I DONT WANT TO ESCAPER NOR A 4K!!!)

I loved Dbd, i am probably a whale at this point for i have spent stupid ammounts on auric cells, and i dont mind it! The division of cosmetics of Bhvr should receive a raise for all the great content! And will be eternally thankful for the great relantioships this game has given me!

But... If the matchs continue like this... I will not be able to continue playing...

Devs, thanks for Dead by Daylight so far! It have been a bash!

-Hoping for the best to come, Alex.

Right. You are such a fanatic you play every day, four to six hours a day, but only now you post. Yeah, sure.... I believe that. Of course I still believe in Santa. :) Do you really think we buy any of this? We see this same lame post frequently, and always with this strange caveat trying to explain WHY we have never seen the poster before.

  • The death of DbD has been predicted since the game came out. I don't think a week has gone by that someone hasn't said THIS will kill the game. When it first came out I tried it, and it wasn't my cup of tea. The game wasn't there yet, at least not for me. I moved on and didn't complain about it or make some idiotic speech. When I came back years later, I was really impressed and have been having a blast. MMR joins the club, not very exclusive, of the countless things people say will kill the game. It might be a hard blow to Streamers who face ONLY potent SWFs but for most people, it will be fine.

  • I LOVE them and wish they were even more vicious to be honest. :)

I honestly feel like MMR will deter people from playing high level. Ive gotten nothing but spirits nurses and the occasional windstorm wraith. I have not enjoyed survivor. And because i play ever killer I get a top sweat swf every match. Theres nothing enjoyable about consistently playing this way. Good luck with this if you keep this nonsense. I will definitely be retiring.

That isn't indicative that MMR is the problem (it isn't) but rather than Spirit, Nurse, and the new Wraith are issues. :)

  • I want Sam from Trick'R'Treat. :)

  • And for that matter, I also deal with Iron Will just fine. There is a Killer Perk: Stridor which will help you counter Iron Will's efficacy if you like.

  • I play Myers all the time, Spooky Myers at that. I manage to deal with Spine Chill just fine.

  • Well if the EGC is what I think it is up there (the C is somewhat obscured) it probably means this secret room can only be opened during the End Game Collapse.

You guys are agreeing with me. Not everyone wants to try hard all the time. By all means, match me against ultra sweats when I feel like playing that way. But some days I just don't feel like going all out. Should I just not load up DbD that day? How is that a solution?

So I lose some games, my MMR goes down, and then I feel like trying my hardest again. Those players won't have fun. I *am* thinking about those players. When I want to sweat, let me queue for that. When I don't want to sweat, let me opt out of it into a separate queue.

Yeah, that is exactly what "I" am saying. If you aren't feeling up to it, don't want to take on that hard challenge, play something else for the day. The fun is in the CHALLENGE. It isn't in the winning, the Blood Points, the Rank. It is in the rollercoaster ride, the outcome in doubt. I don't enjoy any game if it is a blowout. I want to EARN my 4K. If the outcome is evident to me in the first minute, I'm already bored. The challenge is why I play. And if I'm not feeling up to it on a given day, I take a break.

Mechanical skill is separate from playstyle intent. For my Nurse for example, I can 4k at 5 gens with a full meta build or literally run only BBQ no add ons, have a decent chill game, and still 4k with everyone having decent BP. Without MMR, a player like myself can queue up and get a decent variety.

With MMR on a killer like Nurse for me, I have only been matched with 3k+ hr squads. The chill has been completely removed from the game on Nurse for me. That's simply not fun all the time.

Orion kind of went to the heart of the matter already in his question to you, but I'm going to add my two cents as well. Unless it is a Custom Game, you have no idea what is going through the minds of the people you are playing against. You don't know their intent or their level of skill. What you assume is a "chill" game might be utter misery for them. How is that casual? How is that fun for them? You don't know, and there is no way for you to know.

MMR means you face people appropriate to your level of skill. If you can't measure up to the people it puts you against, your rating will drop until you are facing people appropriate to your level, or at least to the amount of effort you put in. Thus if you choose to play at a lesser level (casual/chill) you will end up, eventually, playing against the people you want. In other words, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. MMR will take care of that for you.

What about the players you're killing? Did you ever think about how much fun it was for them to be killed before being able to repair a single gen?

    Exactly.

Yeah the amount of people I've seen complaining they're going to have eternal queue times and nothing but sweat squads and nurse and spirit...I guess 95% of the community is in the top 5% of players

I know, right? Oddly enough I think MMR is working GREAT for my Killer. I am pulling pretty much Red Rank Solos and Red Rank SWF for damn hard fights. That is as it should be. It does not seem to work as well on the Survivor side yet though. But as you said, judging by the complaints by some, I must not be near as good as them (despite my Rank and successes) because it hasn't been that bad for me.

  • @Ink_Eyes said:

I really wish they had ranked and normal game modes, people who want to play for ''escapes'' and ''win'' can always play ranked and people who play for fun can play normal, a dumb decision for the devs not to do so, kinda frustrating to play solo queue, some people there are so ''chill'' that they disconnect or don't even try to actually escape.

They do have that. As it has been discussed, it is called a Custom Game. :) And people who are so "chill" as you describe are a plague on the game. The ones that disconnect are breaking the rules, and the ones that don't really bother to play are just screwing over their teammates who might actually want to escape. This is why the so called "casual" mode has to be a CUSTOM GAME so that your personal notions of what is desirable isn't being foisted on other people.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259247#Comment_2259247

But I think that's what people are getting at: it doesn't *have* to be that way. MMR isn't going to take care of one of the biggest core frustrations among the playerbase. Player A wants to try hard and player B wants to mess around. DbD is literally the only multiplayer game I can think of with only ranked competitive matchmaking and nothing else.

Your arguments aren't bad and you clearly can follow what I'm talking about. But I submit it does HAVE to be that way. There are only so many Players in the Queue, and they must fulfill the requirement of both roles. The DEV won't even separate SWF from Solo because they know the devastating impact it has on Queue times. They test it all the time; they just don't tell us when they are monkeying around with matchups. I don't blame them. The easiest fix for SWF would be for Team to be in its own Queue so they could unlock a 5th Perk for Killers who take them on, to offset the SWF 5th Perk (Comms). However, this would denude the available Players in both groups and make everyone slow and miserable. But wait... there is more...

Let's say they do create a Casual Play Mode and a Competitive (the standard) Mode. How would that be defined? Would some Killers be outlawed in the Casual Queue? That doesn't see fair to the people who paid for them. Would some Perks be outlawed? Would some Builds be outlawed? I mean Offerings and Add-on(s) are a little easier to manage, but even that is kind of wonky. More to the point, most people define casual in this nebulous way. It simply means they don't want people coming at them giving 100%. It is, as I stated in another post, entirely subjective. What is to stop someone who gives 100% from going into the Casual Queue? How do you measure someone giving 80% as opposed to 100%. What if my 80% is equal to 200% of yours? I'm not making a joke; I'm deadly serious. Things are the way they are because they HAVE to be. Dead by Daylight isn't setup, as a 4v1, to work in casual mode.

  • @CLAUDETTEINABUSH said:

First of all, I tried to be polite but your language shows me that you won't stop being aggressive, so sit down kid and allow me to explain myself

What I want is to be able to have fun, unsurprisingly, you CAN have fun whilst the opposing side has fun. It is possible, in a CASUAL SETUP. I suppose you only sweat your games so you feel that it's impossible to have FUN in a video game.

In most successful games ever developed you CAN have the same rewards that sweaty people have, whilst playing CASUALLY. So what's your problem here? Am I the entitled one that I wanna have fun AND unlock stuff, something featured in literally most multiplayer games?

If someone has irrelevant points, then that would be you dude. I showed examples, games where you can unlock stuff whilst having fun. What did you show huh? You just said "oH yOu cAnT hAvE fUn AnD uNlOcK sTuFf!1!1!1!!1". I have evidence that it is possible, I showed examples. Show me your proof, come on then. You should be incredibly entitled to demand that other people must get less stuff because you tryhard on your games, and people who wanna have fun and enjoy themselves should go ######### themselves and play customs instead.

A couple of things, I suspect I'm twice, perhaps even three times your age. If you want to call me kid, I'll take it as a compliment. Second, Dead by Daylight is already a WILDLY successful game with the setup it has NOW. The DEV know exactly what they are doing. More importantly, they know WHY they do the different things they do and are working, behind closed doors, to deal with unintended consequences and issues of every choice. You are the one asking for a change, and thus the ONUS is on you to demonstrate why it is required. So let me break this down for you in a way that you MIGHT understand.

    1. There is already an option for casual games; it is called Custom Game.
    2. You don't get to earn the same rewards as everyone else without taking the same risks and putting in the same work.
    3. Comparing DbD to other games is irrelevant because they are not setup like DbD in way shape or form. Comparing apples to oranges doesn't support your argument. It simply makes you seem ill-suited to make arguments.

Again, why do you feel entitled to the same rewards, for taking less risk, than other people? And for the record, substituting the word "casual" in for "easy" may be all the rage these days, but we all know what you really mean so you might as well be direct. You want easier games and to reap the same rewards as people who have to earn them. It isn't going to happen. There isn't going to be a separate "Casual Mode" for you to earn free stuff because that would further delay and upset the Queues.

More to the point, the term "casual" is ENTIRELY subjective. Nobody agrees on what it means. If a so-called "casual" queue were created, what is to stop people whose idea of casual is 10x more cutthroat than your idea of play? Wouldn't the foxes just go to the henhouse for easier prey? After all, you would make their games VERY casual. Do you see my point yet? Do you understand the irrelevancy of your argument. Without a specific, agreed upon set of terms and rules, there is no such thing as a casual game. All parties must be in agreement and know it is in force. The ONLY way that happens is a Custom Game. See how we went full circle?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259039#Comment_2259039

Believe me when I say it takes more than 5 minutes to set up a custom match in DbD. You're lucky if the lobby doesn't crash half the time when everyone is on PC. Good luck when it's cross platform and some people have cross progression linked. I've seen it take an hour before with multiple support staff on hand.

But more to your point, it's often the perks and killers casual players aren't finding fun. Nobody wants to play against a Ruin/Pop/Tinkerer Deathslinger, for instance. With enough hours, that killer can exist with that build and have a relatively high MMR and get matched with 4 friends who are just trying to goof off with flashlights, not necessarily trying to win, but who also get boosted to that MMR because memeing around in a SWF will beat most killers. The killer and the survivors are playing very different styles but achieving the same MMR.

That very well may be true, but that is the GAME. We all roll the dice and take our chances when we queue up. If you want to be assured you don't run into a specific Killer or certain builds, that is what as CUSTOM GAME is for exactly. It allows you and your friends (or the strangers you gather round) to set personal limits and rules to which you all agree. You can play and have fun. If you want to EARN rewards, you take the same chances as the rest of us.

  • @CLAUDETTEINABUSH said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259175#Comment_2259175

You don't need to necessarily win a casual match. A casual match is basically a match where both teams don't directly intent to try hard. If you've played any other game that has two different modes, you'd know that. So, the other side doesn't necessarily has a bad time, does it?

Let me give you an example, I play pig and someone crouches and points at me. At that moment there are two different alternatives that we can picture, in the first of I attack the survivor which gives him the message that I wanna sweat, so in order for him to make the game less boring, he will either kill himself to try to have a more casual game, which is unlikely, or he will make the chase as lengthy as possible because he wants to give his team, which might be tryharding, a chance to tryhard and improve their ranks.

In the other scenario I will crouch and allow him to boop my snoot, giving him the impression that I don't take the game seriously. In that case most of his team won't take the game seriously if we all goof around and have fun.

I can try hard as ghostface, or I can constantly tbag during chases to make the game more fun.

In a lot of multiplayer games, the ranked mode features players extremely close to your mmr, whereas in casual the mmr is a bit more open, which makes fun and enjoyable games.

So no, I don't want easy games, I want casual games, where I can have fun and the other team can choose to have fun. Which will be extremely hard to do if I get faced with extremely high mmr people, won't it?

Also when I want rewards in a casual setting, I don't mean getting rewards when I bully a baby nurse, I mean I want rewards even tho everyone in the game was goofing around

Again, nothing but irrelevant points. If you haven't setup a custom game, you have no idea if the other person is "trying hard" or not. You just like to tell yourself that because it sounds better to your ear than admitting that you are making other people miserable. There is a line here; on one side of it there is me, the guy who wants an evenly matched game and to earn my rewards. On the other side there is you, who wants "casual" games where nobody tries so hard but you reap the SAME rewards I do. Why do you feel you DESERVE the same rewards and progression other people have to work for? Where does this ENTITLEMENT come from. Where I come from, you reap what you sow and you earn what you get.

  • @CLAUDETTEINABUSH said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259156#Comment_2259156

In most multiplayer games you have the option to progress whilst having the option to either sweat or play casually, and it works. I can think only a few games where you can choose either the one or the other.

But I can think a ton where you can choose both. Examples: in rainbow six siege you can get points by playing a casual mode, an unranked mode and a ranked mode. The only difference is that you get a bit more points on the ranked than the unranked and casual. And it works for them (same with exp)

In league it's the exact same thing, you get more exp and a bigger boner when you win a ranked game rather than a normal game.

I would mention ow but I don't remember if the same thing applies there, even tho I'm sure it does.

Go through your games that have a multiplayer system and see if any of these have the same features I mentioned.

Those other games are also irrelevant. What you fail to grasp is what is casual, i.e. easy for you is miserable for someone else. They are not having fun. The only way you get a "casual" game is if someone else gets a wicked hard one. Thus, MMR seeks to create balance. It means you and your opponents should be evenly matched and thus your rewards are EARNED.

Interesting that you didn't contest my points there. So you basically say that I don't want to have a game where it's casual and I can progress whilst having fun? I could be mistaken, can you please rephrase your sentence if I am? I'd appreciate it

Your points are irrelevant, and nonsensical. Casual games are low stakes. You appear to want your rewards and have it easy, i.e. casual. It doesn't work that way. If you want rewards, you have to EARN them. If you want to play for fun, you can do that anytime you want. Quit pulling our collective legs.

Do you know why custom games aren't used a lot in most videogames now days? Because you don't have the satisfaction of progressing, it's just another party game.

What I said I want isn't to only have chill games, but to go in dbd with the mentality "I'm going to play some dbd games to chill and maybe finally upgrade my goddamned hag to p3"

Side note, you can't unlock prestige in custom games, which I'm unironically obsessed about. So stating that every casual player should play custom games, is basically asking half the player base to ######### off and let true sweaty gamers take their place. Which would hurt dbd, wouldnt it?

Also what are you describing is like what some people want, a casual option in dbd and a ranked option, which would hurt both the matchmaking wait times and dbd as a whole, that's why the devs said they won't add it. And what you're describing is even worse, because you won't even be rewarded with bloodpoints.

I really don't get why you think that way honestly, I admit I don't know how many people play dbd casually, but I bet that if you told that side of the community to play custom games because that will be fufilling for them, then they wouldn't really like that.

I don't play only to have fun, I also wanna feel the satisfaction of playing against someone whomst I probably don't know (even better if I know them and we meet randomly) so I can progress through the game, unlock new stuff and have a good time

Forgot to mention! Custom games don't even grand shards! So it will be impossible for someone to purchase fun characters without paying for them! And if you say that all casual players should buy stuff that could be purchased via in-game currency because they don't wanna spend time sweating, then that is really ######### up!

Then quit lying and saying you want a casual game. Those aren't for progression; they are just for "fun" and nothing else.

  • Pick your three Generator side and then camp the middle hitting them as they try to cross over. In other words, do not stay in the side you want to defend. Fight for the bottleneck.

You need 4 people online and wouldn't update your rank and bloodpoints gain

To put it mildy, telling people to play custom games to have fun, is basically saying to play custom ow so you can be creative, I mean yes technically you can do that, but why don't you have it available in the first place without having to stage everything out?

If you are playing to earn Blood Points and Rank, it isn't casual. You are going up against other people, not usually your close friends. There is nothing casual about that, and it is UNREAONSABLE for you to expect them to give you casual games. However, you can get casual games twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week with a Custom Game and everything you need is unlocked for you. And for the record, with literally five minutes of time (or less) on Discord you can have total strangers willing to jump on and play in your custom game with you.

All you have to say is, "I'm setting up a casual game right now for people who don't want to be sweatlords... any takers?" You will get more responses than you have room for. So let's put aside this false pretense that you want a casual game. What you want is an EASY game where your opponents are weaker than you and thus it "feels" like they aren't giving 100%. When in fact, many of them might be sweating as hard as they can, but you are just better than them. I'm sure they think YOU are the Sweatlords, when you think you are playing a casual game. Everything is relative.

  • Let me be even MORE direct. In a Custom Game, everything is unlocked for you to use. You don't need to grind for points to get your stuff. What could be more casual than that? There is no stress, no Rank to worry about, no Pips, etc. You are just playing casually. And you can easily get enough players at the DROP OF A HAT at any time of the day if you have no friends. Casual play is at your fingertips now and will be after MMF exists. Use it.

If you want to play against people, earn things, and get Rank that is the DEFINITION of competitive play.

In my experience I feel like if I split my time between both roles (killer and survivor) I am never really that good at either, I'm just meh at both, but if I main survivor I feel like I become a much better player. It seems that way with content creators too like Otzdarva's survivor is not that great. Do you believe this to be the case or do you think splitting your time with each role makes you a better rounded player on both sides?

No. To become truly great at a role you must understand and play the opposing role.

I would defy a casual game as a game where you can equip anything as your load out and you would have a chance of winning.

Imagine league for a minute, if you don't know anything about league, I'll try to explain it. Imagine playing yuumi ad. Yuumi is a character where you literally rely on other players, since you can attach to them and make them harder to kill. If you play ad yuumi on a lane where you have no teammates (let's say the top lane) you will probably lose. You don't play yuumi ad on a ranked mode, you play her in a casual mode. Even if you play her like that in a ranked mode, there is a small chance you win, but usually you play your main. In dbd every game is a ranked game, which punishes diversity and creativity. And since we can't have a casual mode, more than half of everything we have available will be unusable for some players.

You can already do this; it is called a Custom Game. It can be as casual as you want and have all the restrictions and friendliness that you and your friends choose to setup. Don't kid a kidder.

Assuming that the MMR works perfectly, wouldn't this hurt the experience of casual players by a lot? Because both sides would have to sweat their pants off to win, which works in other games like league and rainbow six, but in both of these games there are other modes besides ranked. So I wonder, if the MMR is perfect, will it actually hurt the community?

The devs specifically said that they don't like the idea of having 2 different modes in dbd, ranked and casual, so I won't include them here. But, admittedly, the randomized matchmaking is kinda fun, even tho unfair at times. Sometimes you sweat your ass off, sometimes you get destroyed, sometimes its an easy win.

    So what do you think?

So just to be clear, you define a casual game where you can win without working? Wouldn't that mean it is sweaty for the other guy? :)

  • If they base it on hours (and that is a big if mind you) then they have decided to go with everyone has the "potential" to be at a certain level by a certain amount of time. In other words, they realize that metrics are pretty much useless, so they are grouping people by hours. Thus, everyone had the same chance to get to a certain level after a certain number of hours.

We don't know if they are doing this, but it is in fact what I suggested a long time back. There is no way to make fair matchmaking based on numbers because of the way this system is skewed. Hours, however, do not lie. The issue is people with RIDICULOUS hours would only fight other people with the same and the Queues would bog down in a terrible way, which is why I think this is unlikely. However, the Queues have been very erratic today... so who knows.

  • @Almo @MandyTalk I appreciate you turning it on to test it again. Whether the test is a failure or success, at least it is an attempt.

  • So far my experience has not been good. I'm hoping this is just first few hours roughness and it will equal out.

  • I just wish they had disabled the ability for our Rank to go up or down during the test. :)

  • The Smurfing and SWF synergy is pretty problematic and I don't see "how" MMR can account for it. It is just another problem brought to you by the people at SWF!

I wanted to enjoy the game, but this is getting worse. I would love to tunnel them but I didn’t choose this option cuz this goes against my rules. Every time I match with the red ranks I get only 1k or nothing.

You play to win. You do what an individual match calls for. If you are restricting yourself with all sorts of extra baggage and restrictions (that I assure the Survivors are not) then you are responsible for your own losses.

  • Time to break out my massive swag of Tombstone Pieces! Just the rainy day I was saving them for. 4v1 to 3v1 in the first 1.5 minutes. :) And no, I have no sympathy. I'm pulling nothing but all Red Rank SWF (and yes they ARE SWF). A Myers does what a Myers has to do.

  • @CornMoss said:

As soon as I booted up the game this morning I have been only getting matches against insane survivors mostly in SWF with the best ######### (DS, Dead Hard, Unbreakable, BT, etc.). Literally untouchable, they somehow can heal everyone constantly and get gens done at the same time. I am not playing a weak killer as well (blight). At this point I think MMR may show the devs the power of SWF and the imbalance in this game cause this is too much, can barely secure 2 kills

If that is what it takes to get them to address it somehow, I'm all for it. :)

  • I think it is too much; I think it has always been too much. :) It also takes something from Stealth Killers when everyone can be a Stealth Killer when it matters most. But they did what they did. It is particularly potent on high mobility Killers.

I fall victim to 9 out of 10 or 10 out of 10 matches. Red rank killers are invincible.

Only in our Red Rank minds.... if only it were true. :)

Tunneling and camping didn't drop at all in my experience with old Undying. Simply because it didn't make sense as a strategy. Pressuring the hook gets more people off gens. Hook one. Interrupt the first rescue, another comes off gens while the first rescuer goes possibly heal, chase the second rescuer, possibly get a trade or even a slug, now the two remaining survivors are off gens entirely. It's pretty common red rank play. With Ruin up, that makes a world of damage, especially against solos. Old Undying made it just incredibly effective by keeping Ruin up in the early game, current Undying makes it effective for the same reason and still Ruin if stays up makes it effective.

I am a Red Rank Killer and it isn't common for me at all. If I can afford for the game to go longer, I make it last longer. Emblem advancement for Killers is better the longer the match goes on. If you take someone out too early you get others that quit trying, disconnect, or suicide on the hook. It does not maximize profit. Shallow as it may sound, I want to double Pip and earn as much BP as humanly possible out of every match. I happen to know there are other Killers that do the same.

Thus, if I have the luxury of not being forced to take a 4v1 to a 3v1 as soon as possible, I don't. While I might win the match doing that, I won't maximize profit. To me winning is about all the levels. I want maximum Blood Points, maximum Pips, and if possible to do everything so thoroughly that the Survivors can't even come up with decent salt at the end. Simply winning a match by 3+ Kills isn't a challenge anymore. It hasn't been for a long time. We set our own goals, and move the goal posts to where it is appropriate to continue improving.

Will I take a 4v1 to a 3v1 if I must to have a chance? Absolutely. Will I play rattlesnake mean? Without hesitation. However, I do those things when an individual match calls for it, not as a matter of strategy. I also know there are lots of people that play the same. When Undying created an emphasis on Totems, and thus a real secondary objective was in play, I was a lot less ruthless. And yes, Tunneling and Camping did drop statistically during that time. Ironically enough, so did the use of NOED. There were hardly ANY threads about NOED during that brief, shining moment. People stopped using it much because it almost NEVER got to activate. Everyone was killing every Totem they could.

    Hey,

Inb4 this gets closed I'd like to ask why is the "Naming & Shaming" rule so strict?

I mean I get the concept to avoid people giving out death threats or other unreasonable offences, but then just give perma bans to such people, not whole threads. If forum mods are afraid of such people making multiple accounts, make some more advanced verification for registering or anything really.

Why posts mentioning some streamer doing something bad get blocked almost right away? Shouldn't we as community help other players avoid badly behaving streamers to not get influenced?

And why does every post about the whole drama with True get blocked, I mean "assuming" that some thread will turn into hostile shtshow instead of seeing if maybe there will be civilised conversation going on is quite oppressive censorship.

    Bless.

You have a very strange notion of censorship. Let me explain something to you clearly and completely. You can go create your own Forum, the software is easily available and setting one up is easy. For you to be censored you would be given no option to speak your mind. That isn't the case here. Politicians banned from the big social media giants aren't being censored either, because they can start a blog, put up their own social media, take out a page in the paper, pay for a commercial, and so on.

Forums are "private clubs" which have rules. You agreed to those rules when you created your account here. In effect, YOU accepted that there are certain subjects and ways of conducting yourself that are unacceptable. You are complicit. The joy of private clubs is you can leave them at any time. Go start your own club. Scream about whatever subject you want to your hearts content. Nobody will even blink. Who knows if anyone will even show up to listen.

You completely have your freedom of speech. Go us it. It is unreasonable, and silly to expect SOMEONE ELSE to subsidize and pay for your platform. It is silly to expect them to waive the rules for you or apply them more to some people and less to others. So, let me repeat to the sake of redundancy, you aren't being censored; you are being held to the agreement that you signed on to when you joined this Forum.

Killer sweat is based on the person playing, not time. The killers that tunnel off the hook at 5 gens will do it even if gens took 30mins each. They see something that gives an easy win and go for it. On all the posts complaining about camping and tunnelling I've never seen someone complain about it happening at endgame (or close to).

Strategically advantageous to make a 4v1 a 3v1 at the start of the game? yes. still a dick move? absolutely.

That simply isn't true because as Tsulan points out, Tunneling and Camping dropped dramatically while there was a secondary objective. If Killers have the TIME to earn more BP and Emblem advancement, they do it. If the reality of the game doesn't allow it, they don't.

Tonight I hopped onto DBD to try and do the protection hits tome challenge. I played Ash so I could use MoM to get more hits. I don't have any of the meta sweat perks on Ash so I was just going to have fun. As soon as I touched a gen I could tunneled and camped out of the game. I got farmed by teammates and I depipped. I was almost to red ranks. Why do I get punished for the killer playing like an #########? Why do I get depipped?

A couple of things, why are you mad at the KILLER when you clearly state you were farmed by a bad Survivor? Moreover, you say "as soon as you touched a Gen" which means the Killer went after you because you were on an objective. Of course the Killer is going to go after a Survivor on an objective. You aren't punished for anything, you simply don't get rewards for failing to do well. Get your priorities straight.

You got into a tangent that is unrelated to the topic being discussed here. This is not a topic about whether or not you should be able to camp or tunnel, but rather a topic about which perks are currently encouraging camping and tunneling. I stated why they end up encouraging those actions and suggested that they be changed.

It isn't a tangent. It is entirely to the point. You want them removed, when you don't understand WHY they exist in the first place. Do you honestly think the DEV don't understand what their MANY different Perks encourage and discourage? :) That is rather arrogant of you. As I said, they created Perks which do encourage and those that discourage it. That is Player Agency. They aren't going to remove them for you because they WANT them there.
