  • if you're looking to have fun, avoid Slinger.

he went from a fast paced killer that required (and rewarded you for) fast reaction time and precision to a killer that primarily focusses on zoning his targets out and then hitting them when outpositioned.

unless you really like slow paced gameplay that consists of "hold W until in melee range", this Killer is not for you.

the Devs seriously have done him dirty with those changes.

  • to be honest with you: barely anyone does that anymore.

ever since they introduced overheat the amount of Hillbilly players has decreased rapidly.

sounds like a meme at this point, but really: just play Bubba or Oni instead. Both are significantly more fun (cause they dont actually punish you for using your ability) and are probaply stronger as well.

I desperately need to know what possible comparison you're drawing between this game and Fortnite, and I'm not even being snarky, I really want to know what you're getting at there.

if i'd have to guess, i THINK what they meant with that comment is that, for them personally, DbD has taken the same path as said other two games, where they can no longer find enjoyment in them and have therefore dropped them.

then again, im not them. thats just how i interpreted the comment.

  • Oni:

a really fun and powerful killer, someone you can sink a lot of time and training into and enjoy for a decently long time (like most Killers he isnt really viable for highest level of play, but he is a lot more viable than Deathslinger is)

    Deathslinger:

just pick Huntress. should the Devs ever undo the most recent gutting, go for him! i think he was a lot more fun to play as than Oni, but in his current state i'd pick not playing the game at all over playing this guy.

in terms of Perks they are pretty equal. both got two Perks you're essentially never going to use and one Perk that can be VERY good when combined with the right other Perks.

I still have fun, maybe a competitive pvp game isn't for you if you are expecting to win by not trying

did you just call Dead by Daylight a "competetive pvp game"?

DbD is about as competetively viable as Mario Party, its not a competetive game at all.

  • its horror themed, but i dont think it was ever intended to be focussed on horror.

its much more of a slasher game that includes violence and action rather than a creepy atmosphere and scares.

  • i dont know how exactly they work, but i think you get those when you break a forum rule and get a warning.

i do think you're also incapable of creating your own discussions for as long as you have them.

im fairly certain they go away after a while again, if you didnt break any more rules during that time.

Ok well .. what you just said is your opinion and.. you didn't say it was an opinion. Why doesn't this rule apply to you?

why would i need to specify that it was my opinion when you literally asked me to give my opinion beforehand?

there is a clear difference between stating a fact and an opinion, and you have to make clear which you're doing at any given time.

    for example:

a fact is "The Trappers terror radius is 32m" - and an opinion is "that is too big and it should be 24m instead". you can not state both the same way, otherwise you're either going to make the fact look like it was merely an opinion, or the opinion look like it was a fact - both of which would be very wrong and should therefore be avoided.

if you're stating an opinion on something, you need to mark it as such. otherwise you're just causing unnecessary controversy / confusion among everyone reading your post - this is entirely avoidable by taking two seconds more to type something like "IMO" at any point in your sentence.

    example:

"The Trappers TR is 32m, which is too big and needs to be 24m instead" sounds quite different to "The Trappers TR is 32m, which IMO is too big and needs to be 24m instead".

and just FYI - this whole discussion started BECAUSE i marked something (whether the Artist was fun or not) as an opinion rather than a fact, which some apparently took an issue with.

  • we already have that, its called "The Nurse" - you press a button and get to automatically "outplay" your opponent, unless you screw it up.

we should honestly just nerf both.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2676296#Comment_2676296

Me neither. But if the Killer is too bad to stop that, nothing can really be done. I mean, I can try to go into chases, but then the Killer might think that they get bullied. Because Killers also dont enjoy when Survivors are not on Gens but want to be chased.

In general, Killers dont enjoy Survivors unless they are on the Hook.

When it comes to "hardcamping" players, the motivation behind that might just be that they want to reduce the fun for the other side. Which is at least some form of motivation, but it will not be the own fun. (Unless someone is a sadist)

but fact is, some people do enjoy those scenarios, which is why its impossible to say whether something was objectively fun or unfun.

we can make the assumption how most people feel about something based on what we experience here on the forum / ingame, but we can never speak for everyone.

the quotation marks i end up using when talking about fun in DbD have two good reasons to exist:

    1) i am not the one making the claim of her being "unfun", i am quoting others saying it (in this scenario the people DCing that OP mentioned) - the statement does not necessarily represent my own opinion on the matter.

    2) there is no clear definition to what "fun" in DbD even is (everyone has a different understanding of what it is, as proven by the examples given above), therefore using the term in a way that implies that it had one would be wrong. You cant make the overall statement that something was generally "unfun", all you can say is that you dont find it to be fun.

also, this is a very bold statement:

In general, Killers dont enjoy Survivors unless they are on the Hook.

not only can i say with certainty that this statement is objectively false, but you are actively putting words in the mouth of every single Killer player out there, even though many never said anything like that or feel that way.

this sentence actually suffers from the exact same problem your previous statement of the Killer being unfun suffers from:

you are trying to speak for everyone on something that has no clear definition and everyone has their own thoughts and opinions on. therefore your statement is automatically untrue because its guaranteed that there are going to be people, such as me, who disagree on it.

all you really have to do here is to add something to your sentence that makes it clear that you are not trying to speak for everyons.

for example you could have said "Just the way BHVR creates Killers so that the only thing you can do is to hold W, which i think is boring"

or "to me it looks like Killers dont enjoy Survivors unless they are on the Hook".

make it clear that this is your subjective opinion and not an objective truth, thats all im really asking for.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2676197#Comment_2676197

I mean, she is unfun to go against. No reason to use those: "".

Just the way BHVR creates Killers so that the only thing you can do is to hold W, which is boring.

fun is subjective, therefore the quotation marks.

if you find something unfun, that is your subjective opinion, not an objective truth.

after all, there are a ton of players who think its fun to bang all gens in 5 minutes and insta leave / hardcamp someone / sit in a corner all game, all of which i would not consider to be "fun".

  • @lauraa said:

People wanna bully but they are too lazy to put in the effort needed.

New killer needs to be looped differently, who's got time for that?

dont worry, im fully expecting the Devs to pull a Deathslinger on her because people will start complaining she was "unfun" to play against :)

  • i dont think hes THAT bad.

i honestly still think he's bottom of B-Tier, maybe C-Tier.

they made him incredibly unfun to play, not outright bad.

  • honestly, i feel like shes a lot closer to B-Tier than S-Tier.

but we got to wait and see - maybe, when people start getting really good with her (which i do believe is going to take a long time), it turns out i underestimated her.

  • its actually something very, very old!

those things used to spawn in the original Halloween Event as a secondary objective for Survivors, which they had to interact with to earn nectar, which could then be used to purchase some of the Hallowed Blight skins.

these crankers never made a return in the following years, until they finally decided to add them to the Halloween Tome challenges, that, if the challenge was selected by a Survivor, would spawn one in the trial.

essentially they are just a huge timewaster for Survivors that they do to earn challenge points.

  • there are videos of Monto and Noob3 in which they used an exploitable spot that allowed them to drop on top of the generator in Ironworks of Misery (its been fixed a long time ago), which got all of them banned.

so yes, abusing broken gameplay like that does indeed get you banned.

HOWEVER, what you're describing in your OP is someone camping a hook. that is not considered an exploit or "gameplay abuse", its a legitimate strategy a Killer can do when they wish to (and it can be quite effective, based on how the Survivors play around it).

there is nothing bannable or wrong with someone camping.

  • 1) Remove MMR.

    2) #RevertDeathslinger

    3) Remove Overheat

fr? when I read the patch notes it sounded like a very minor nerf, apparently they did him dirty

no it really wasnt a minor nerf.

the attack cooldown after dropping ADS is fine i think, that one i would call a minor nerf.

but the TR increase from 24m to 36m was extremely unnecessary. it wasnt a huge nerf, but it removed his most unique (and fun) trait, that being the ability to sneak up on people.

but the removal of the quickscope is what really hit hard. quickscoping was all he had, it was everything that made him strong - and now its gone.

prior to his nerf, Deathslinger was a unique and interesting Killer who was arguably on par with Huntress (maybe a little worse) - now after his nerf, he is nothing but a bad copy of Huntress - utterly outclassed by everything she can do with no more things that are unique to him.

and as if they wanted to add insult to injury, the Devs made him slightly faster while in ADS (still slower than a running Survivor, so you still lose distance on them) - something you never want to do with Deathslinger in the first place, therefore a completely useless "buff".

  • @Lawlichan said:

I never played slinger, how bad is the nerf?

imagine you got a really nice ice cream.

now imagine someone came over, knocked it out of your hand and stepped on it 15 times before slapping you in the face.

thats pretty much how it feels to play current Deathslinger in comparison to his old version.

  • as a former Deathslinger main myself, i approve of this message.

  • @Kasamsky said:

    What.

Mods say that? That's the most lazy s.hit i ever heard if that's true.

yes, the mods did say that reporting people using this spot isnt doing anything because both sides can reach it.

that said, according to them, this is a known bug and there will be a fix to it soonTM.

  • it kind of used to.

i always tried to get a bit into character with each killer i played, acting slow and methodical when playing Trapper and hot headed and aggressive when playing Hillbilly for example.

but ever since SBMM happened i just felt like a clown every game, regardless of who i played (excluding those three, but i dont necessarily enjoy those very much).

  • that might have something to do with the fact that BHVR decided to remove everything unique and fun this killer used to offer and turned him into a worse Huntress copy.

revert the latest changes (the TR increase & quickscope removal) and i guarantee you people will play him again.

  • i think i saw a mod say before that this spot isnt bannable, because both sides can reach it. (at least i think they were referring to this spot with it)

there will be a fix for it in an upcomming patch soonTM though.

  • i wouldnt mind it being basekit under certain, relatively specific requirements.

    here's my suggestion:

When the Killer remains within 16 meters to a hook without leaving for X seconds (needs to be enough time to kick some things and walking away without activating it) and there are no Survivors within these 16 meters or currently in chase, the Killers aura is revealed to everyone on the map and their action speed gets increased by Y%.

  • i have two very strong contenders for that role right now:

    • Team Fortress 2
    • Advance Wars (the entire series, excluding Advance Wars: Days of Ruin - that one just didnt really do it for me)

some other games i really enjoy but that wouldnt really make the cut to be my absolute favourite would be:

    • Minecraft
    • Dark Deception
    • Geometry Dash
    • The Binding of Isaac
  • that depends... are you a masochist?

if you are, Killer is for you!

if you arent, well, i think you'll have more fun slapping yourself in the face than playing Killer - especially if you're looking to play for extended periodes of time.

on a serious note, as long as you MMR is low enough you can have a lot of fun with Killer. but once you get to the point where your MMR increases to a certain level, there is just not more fun to be had with this role - just stress, annoyance and sadness.

  • The issue isn't MMR. The issue is balance.

okay, i generally agree with that statement.

however, there is one very important thing we need to remember here:

this game will never be balanced.

the Devs outright admitted that they have no intention of balancing DbD around high level gameplay on multiple occasions and recent balance changes reflect that stance even more (nerfing Deathslinger and Spirit instead of buffing everyone else to be on Spirits level to be competetively viable, all in the name of "fun")

so with that in mind, i ask you one thing: what is the point of an MMR system, if the most basic requirement for such a system to work, that being a balanced game, is not given - and never will be?

its not that MMR systems were a fundamentally bad thing, its just that they are absolutely not compatible with the casual party game that DbD is.

  • of course he is playable.

Hillbilly is also playable after his nerf.

but that does not mean they would be fun anymore - which, honestly, they are not. Especially not when you compare them to what they used to be.

while the Devs thought it was a good idea to actively punish Hillbilly for using his power (what a great idea, im sure the players will love that!), Deathslinger just had everything removed from him that made him unique and stand out in comparison to Huntress (why even bother making ranged Killers at this point when you just end up turning them into a budget Huntress anyway?).

but if Hillbilly has proven one thing in the past, its that BHVR will not back down on their horrendous decisions (unless they are literally gamebreaking - such as the Huntress Hatchet hitbox "fix" or the removal of timing for flashlight / pallet saves), even if everyone hates it.

  • that depends a lot on what you're aiming for.

if what you're trying to get is a unique gameplay experience with the character, go for Myers. Trickster is really just a budget version of Deathslinger and Huntress, i find him to be quite a boring character, gameplay wise.

Myers is quite outdated, yes, but he is still pretty fun to play as - considering you're not a high MMR player (in which case neither are fun, you'd get stomped in roughly 5 minutes with both).

however, if you're looking to pick up some strong Perks, i would heavily suggest Trickster. In terms of Perk value, he has to be one of the best, if not the best, Killers in the entire game (the only one close to him is Plague) - Starstruck is incredibly strong if you can use it well, No Way Out is nothing short of amazing after the buff to it and Hex: Crowd Controll is still a very solid Perk choice, even if its the worst out of the three. Overall i dont think Trickster has a single bad Perk. For Myers thats quite the opposite, the only Perk you really want to get with him is Save The Best For Last, which is a very good Perk but does come with downsides attached to it (you can not attack the obsession with normal M1s / kill them early on). Play With Your Food is decent, but you need to center your entire build and playstyle around it and its generally rather difficult to make good usage of - and Dying Light is just outright bad.

  • its not going to.

but to me it seems like a cool alternative to play while the DbD Devs are still trying to somehow justify that mess they call SBMM :)

  • the majority is definitely not toxic.

but sadly, the toxic ones are a rather vocal minority, which makes it seem a lot worse than it actually is.

plus of course its a lot more memorable for people when they encounter a toxic person that heavily insults them than when they have no one say anything / people only say "gg" in end chat.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

So everyone queues up and one person is the Killer?

Great, this sounds like people disconnecting if they are Survivor and want to play Killer and vice-versa.

But in the end, it does not matter, the game will be irrelevant rather sooner than later.

no you can select which role you want to play as.

its just that the lobby shows everyone as teens so you see who you play with without revealing the monster.

the monster also starts out as a teen at the beginning, but once they drop the disguise its gone for the rest of the game (i do think that hides their equivalent of a terror radius, so its a decent early game stealth tool).

4 totems down we know where last one is we pop last gen and he down the guy looping I go to cleanse he goes to patrol his totem slugs me my friend tries to cleanse can’t get it either gets slugged last guy opens gate leaves where as all 4 of us could have easily gotten out had it not been for crutch 1 shot kill perk

so you're saying that you all knew he had NOED and decided it was a good idea to try and cleanse the totem under his nose instead of just opening a gate and leaving?

    thats still entirely on you.

  • Just had a game where a 4 escape turned into a 3k

    say no more!

next time try this amazing life hack when NOED is active to significantly boost your chances at survival: open the door and leave. stop feeding the Killer kills and just go.

Nope, still not totally grasping what you are asking for.

So...you want the emblem system to be tied to the MMR system - like, the emblems you earn increase your MMR somehow?

This might be decent for survivors, but for killers...eh. Honestly, even on matches I lose handily I'll get 2-3 golds, sometimes iris. I think that would massively inflate killer MMRs.

yes i want the Emblem system to be the determining factor whether you win or lose.

because just going off of Kills / Escapes is a horrible decision and is extremely inaccurate when it comes to actually determining who is good and who is bad at the game.

just because someone died does not mean they'd be bad at the game (or worse than the people that got out for that matter) - yet MMR says so.

just because the Killer killed two people does not mean they'd be good at the game / they'd be bad at it (e.g. instant facecamp + NOED kill) - yet MMR says so.

Emblems would allow such scenarios to not matter as much as they currently do - if you were the absolute MVP this game but died right at the end, then you're still going to get MMR points (or at least not lose any), while that one claudette that hid in a corner all game and got out is not going to be treated as superior (or even equal) to you.

it would overall just be a significant improvement over the current system, thats for sure.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2660105#Comment_2660105

    I'm...a little confused.

    What would be the difference?

the Emblem system judges your ingame performance and gives you a score based on that - this score is later used by the Ranking system to determine whether you get to rank up, lose your rank or stay where you are. The Rank is then the determining factor for your Opponents in your next match.

in short: the Emblem system judges your ingame perfromance, the Rank system is used for matchmaking purposes. They used to work together hand in hand, but they arent the same system.

if we want to remove Ranks, that does not necessarily mean the Emblems had to go as well, its just the matchmaking determining factor that has to be replaced.

Sadly, the Devs didnt do that and instead removed both at the same time, which lead to them giving MMR a much worse system to determine your performance - essentially the thing determining whether you win / lost right now is the Unbroken / Devout Emblem alone (even a worse version of those, as some of the extra requirements these two used to have arent being taken into account at all (times you went down / hooks achieved)), as the system only cares for whether you escaped / how many you killed.

so its not a very accurate system and its completely inferior to the previously already existing Emblem system, due to it ignoring away everything you did during the trial.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/296520/why-mmr

The problem with the 'ranks' system was that:

    • It was way too easy to derank and smurf. It was so bad that even some Fog Whisperers admitted to deranking for easier games on stream. Emblems would have the same problem.
    • Killers had no matchmaking protections, so high MMR people would constantly get matched against people with much less experience/skill, resulting in those amazing '100 win streak with a meme build' videos.

MMR has it's problems, particularly in terms of people with high MMR now constantly having harder games than they are used to, plus the occasional 'wut' matchup - but it's been significantly better now, at least for me as a comfortably intermediate killer player that prefers to try weird perk and addon combinations.

At least 3/5 games are...pretty decent. Maybe 1/5 is a touch too easy and 1/5 is a brutal slog, but before MMR, around 2/3 of my games were me getting absolutely stomped by people with thousands more hours of experience, generally smurfing.

I do agree that MMR for survivors should be more nuanced than died/escaped, but there's plenty of room for refinement.

but he was talking about the Emblem system, not the Rank system?

those are indeed two very different things - one determines how well you played (Emblem), the other one determines who you get to play against next (Ranks).

they want to merge the Emblem system with the MMR system to more accurately determine an individuals skill, not bring back the old Rank based matchmaking.

  • best thing about MMR to me is that i get to play other games now that i enjoy a lot more than DbD atm.

and every time nostaliga hits and i miss this game, all i have to do is remeber that SBMM is a thing now and i instantly dont want to play anymore :D

  • DbD is the reason why i disabled comments on my steam profile.

i still get people trying to harass me on my screenshots, but that usually just ends with them looking like a clown for my personal entertainment (not very common though, you'd need a lot of salt to go that far).

  • oh, we're nerfing another mid tier character that absolutely did not need any nerfs in the first place?

    cool, thanks BHVR!

glad we keep to enjoy our Spirit, Nurse, Blight games without any form of interruption, as anyone that might be able to shake that circle up is getting curb stomped! :D

welp, here is hoping that maybe they wont repeat the Hillbilly / Deathslinger story by actually giving the Ceobite a buff to compensate for the nerfs? i know its unlikely...

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Jesus, now we have this discussion because someone says it should not be removed.

we have come full circle :D

  • the thing that keeps me interested in this Killer is that feeling when you place traps in places you predict someone to walk through and then catch people with them.

my absolute favourite traps are the ones you dont place in obvious places around loops (yeah those are necessary too), but the ones you place in a "random" (as it would seem to the Survivor) patch of grass inbetween two trees that you correctly predicted someone would walk through when trying to reach a generator.

sadly, ive stopped maining this man after a couple of years (i mained him pretty much from September 2016 (when i joined the game) - March 2020 (when Deathslinger released - who would then become my new main)) because i got fed up with the sorry state he was in. And in August 2021, when SBMM made its final entry to the game, i quit DbD for good - and just shortly afterwards he receives a buff ._.

im gonna be honest here, had they not needlessly gutted Deathslinger in that exact same patch, it would probaply have gotten me back into DbD right then and there.

  • @AnnoyingNarrator said:

The Balance of Dead by Daylight is weird and complicated, but if I had to sum it up in one sentence, it would be the following:

Killers can do good in the micro, survivors can dominate the marco

What I mean by this is that killers dominate in the chases, but survivors can win easily if they just stick on gens. However, just because the survivors as a whole can do well, individual survivors can still not have fun.

Deadslinger, in his current form, is the ultimate case example of why this balance can be so unfun. Deadslinger is a killer with a very weird power because, on one hand, it can shut down chases quickly, but if you miss, you lose precious seconds.

From a killer's perspective, this can lead to annoying games in which despite doing well, you just can't stop the gens because you have no macro pressure.

For survivors, the chases are rather boring. It is a 110 killer in which you hold w to get around the corner and every once in a while juke. That's it.

On top of that, the recent changes to the aim down sights make playing him even more clunky than before. The one decent marco tool he had, his low terror radius, was also taken from him.

in my opinion, you are just better playing any other ranged killer. His kit just lacks to tools needed in order to have interesting games.

i think this just shows us a much bigger problem this game has:

the macro game, as you called it, is not fun. the only fun part about this game for Survivors right now is the direct interaction with the Killer, which is why the Devs are so adamant about making that as fun for them as possible (resulting in absolutely dumb and unneeded Killer nerfs - like Deathslinger's or Hillbilly's), which then heavily impacts the Killers ability to have fun in the game, because they now suck not only in the macro game, but also the micro game which they used to be good in.

what the Devs need to realize here is, that this recipe is never going to work - due to DbDs structure, if one side is having fun in this interaction with the other side, said other side more than likely is not having fun. If the Killer dominates the chase, the Survivors think its boring - and if the Survivors have a "fun and interactive" chase, the Killer is bored / frustrated - someone always loses with this recipe.

This game would be in a much better state, if the direct interaction with the Killer was actually something the Survivors didnt want to have - because then it wouldnt need to be "fun" for them, which would allow the Devs to properly balance Killers around that aspect and make them strong. For this to happen, they would have to completely rework the way the Survivors primary objective works though - they would essentially need to add fun and interactive minigames for the Survivors to play to progress their objective, while the Killer interrupts them, so we'd need to fundamentally rework generators.

right now i think that is a very necessary step to take.

if the Devs managed to do this well, they would be able to create a game where both sides are able to have fun - Survivors when they have time by themselves to do their objective and try to evade Killer contact ("macrogame") and the Killer any time they find someone and start chasing them ("microgame").

  • there are a huge amount of differences between Boons and Hexes, they are hardly even comparable.

the most glaring one: this is a 1 v 4 game. the one player that has to go up against 4 at the same time has much less free time on their hands to just run around to do totems, cause if this one person ever drops the pressure on the other four, they lose the game in that instant. on the contrary, its entirely possible for the four people to occupy the single player, progress their main objective AND work on the secondary objective at the exact same time.

however, there is another one that i think is of equal imprtance: cleansing totems is limited to doing it five times (a Hex gets cleansed once and thats it for that Perk) - snuffing out boons is infinite. Survivors can get rid of all totems by putting a little time into them 5 times a trial - the Killer on the other hand has no way to get rid of them permanently, because Survivors can always just rebless them.

1 … 13 14 15 16 17 … 140
