Killers still need buffs over time since generally they get weaker the longer they are out and as general skill increases depending on how much of the game that killer has to interact with, they just need to get stronger as people get smarter, not just the scum at the bottom of the barrel which people still won't play because theres no point in buffing it to go no where but the median needs to raise over time. Using tunneling and camping as examples of why almost no killers should get buffs is using one aspect of the game to say a more important aspect shouldn't get changed which is just wrong.

    Nah, it's not wrong.

I am not against buffs for weak killers but i am against another 6.1.0 , we don't need another general killer buffs. But we should buff Pig, Myers, Freddy, Trapper etc. Weak killers should be viable, that's not wrong thing to do.

But what would be wrong is giving buffs to all killers.

"we shouldn't remove them" also we should nerf them into the ground and make them unviable aka all but remove them just say the change actually want instead of dancing around it then making it anyway

I am not sure if you understood my point. If we really wanna make killers power role, like some people keep asking, those strategies can't stay in game. Because if we buff all killers to this level, tunnelling and proxy camping will be even bigger problems.

Nurse is strongest killer in game and good Nurse player can destroy most of teams but yet, they are tunnelling. And we all know how anti-tunnel barely doing anything against her. Or Blight. Or any of high tier killers.

If we buff all killers to this level, what will stop them to not tunnel. Nothing. Unless we actually nerf tunnelling to ground and punish killers really hard for it, tunnelling always will be popular choice for killers. Because it's easy to do.

And as you pointed, it's not easy to do. BHVR will need to a lot work to make things work. So i just don't see this gonna happen and it should not anyway. Killers should not be buffed ( except really weak ones ) and tunnelling & proxy camp should not be nerfed. One should not come without other. Buffing DS a bit will be good enogh.

  • @bjorksnas said:

Disagree, tunneling and camping have been in the game for 7 years, they have always been tweaked but never been outright removed because they are part of the game. Simply removing them would require too many changes that you are making a new game at that point and likely after that the question becomes ok with that gone whats the next version of it based on the changes the devs make that you want gone.

Lets say you can't hook the same survivor twice in a row. Physically impossible to take a survivor out of the game before 5 hooks how much safer is it for that new unhooked person to just sit on a gen and ignore any kind of healing until someone else gets hooked and how much more progress does their team get off not having to care about taking hits just immediate stealth because they would be fine and unbreakable stocks soar or heck just give them free unbreakable while they are slugged like that since they are supposed to be invincible and just in case slugging becomes the problem here throw endurance on that too.

Lets say you can't camp at all if you are within 32m of a survivor on the hook both survivors get bt and their hook doesn't progress and you build up a free escape and for good measure kindred aura reading that bypasses undetectable so everyone knows thats happening, in fact lets sweaten the pot, injured survivors get bt for being within 16m of the hook and no deep wound on the first bt hit so a freshly unhooked survivor takes 3 hits to down depending on perks which doesn't mean much when they can't be hooked and an injured unhooker gets a bt hit going to save and a bt hit after the save. How much more time does their team get not having to care about rescues being dangerous and having great knowledge on going for saves

How would you balance all of it out, realistically with a mountain of changes to make all killers strong enough to get at least 5 hooks at a decent pace so they can start snowballing in a match at some point (because otherwise they can't counter survivor pressure and just lose) and have enough information without perks that they don't need to ever go back to hooks again within a reasonable amount of time, and the mobility on each killer to do so without huge amounts of downtime. The problem is the fact that its just a mountain of changes to overcome just to remove 2 mechanics that are intended and at the end of the day you don't even know if you are making a better product to remove 2 things you don't like.

And where i said we should remove tunnelling from game? I just said we should not buff killers because of tunnelling. We can't buff killers because of those strategies can not be actually nerfed. And if we can't actually make them unviable, then what will stop killers to not tunnel when they are too strong? Nothing.

But i just don't bite the "Killers won't tunnel if they were power role" thing.

Both sides love to win and there are some ways to make winning easier. You are definitely right, that buffs alone will not make the problem disappear. But I fear that as long as there are cases in which tunneling is simply the only option to compete (rare but they do exist) even a 10 seconds DS wouldn't fix the issue. After all, there is no greater advantage than to eliminate 1 survivor.

I'll say something that is a bit controversial here: If DS left the killer stunned for 20 seconds, then tunneling would become the go to strategy for absolutely everyone. Because survivors would force it on the killer (pre 6.1.0 style) and put them at a significant disadvantage that they could only balance out by doubling down and eliminating that survivor. This is of course very exaggerated but you get the point.

This is why I think it needs both incentives not to tunnel and penalties for tunneling. If tunneling became less efficient and spreading hooks became more efficient at the same time, then killers would have a good reason to avoid tunneling.

I just don't see this happens because let's say BHVR changed meta and added some basekit for killers. Now hooking different survivors gives you some slowdown. Good on paper but then they will be forced to make anti-tunnel strong too because killers won't stop tunnelling just because of that. So if they make anti-tunnel so strong, this will make survivors bodyblock killers.

So just problems will be replaced with new problems. BHVR really can't change too much.

Just look, they buffed Grim Embrace and now people are using it with other slowdown perks. It's good for some killers but do we really need 3 - 4 slowdowns on killers like Nurse, Blight, Wesker, Spirit etc. DbD have so much different mechanics, killers and changing one of them can effect others as well, even if it was not your plan.

  • @Xernoton said:

I mean, is that really surprising? Tunneling leads to more wins. And more wins = killer more happy.

If you completely eliminate it without compensation though, that will only cause a different issue. It's not an easy thing to fix.

    Yeah, that's fair.

But i just don't bite the "Killers won't tunnel if they were power role" thing. Because they did and they will. So BHVR should not play with balance too much. Because i don't believe killers will play fair whenever they buffed to power role, let's say all killers buffed to base-kit Blight level. Things like that should not happen.

Buffing DS a bit will give fair counter to survivors and that's good enough.

  • There is really few killers i really hate to go against: Hag, Artist, SM, Trickster etc.

I am mostly enjoying against most of them but if i have to choice: Billy is the most fun killer to go against. Especially when they try to get chainsaw hits, both sides can outplay each other.

  • It just proved that for me again, killers will tunnel and camp even if they are power role. So they should never to buffed this level.

  • @Xernoton said:

That's kind of ironic because Midwich has more pallets than most maps.

It does not matter how many pallets it has, most of them are trash and filler pallets. And this map has not good vaults as well. It's not surprise this map has one of the highest kill-rates.

  • Solo-q is garbage and killer is easy. So there is no fun in DbD right now, at least for me. I won't surprise if many solo players feels same and leaving game.

  • You can hate changes and you are free to have whatever opinion you want but what's the point of talking about your job? It's kinda weird

  • It's so bad. Survivors can remove your all power easily. I don't know why BHVR added 2 down-sides to this add-on.

  • Unasked buff for DS?

Many people are asking buff for it.

And for OTR. It's just worst anti-tunnel perk ever. Killers are hitting you off the hook and now your all value gone.

If you don't work on a gen a certain amount in x amount of seconds you're revealed in some way. Punishes people who afk in a locker and if you're actually trying to progress the game some you will be fine.

How you will be fine lmao? Killer will find you easily. You are just asking for free kill.

  • Honestly i bored so fast.

It's easy and boring, there is no challange when you play this mode as killer. And survivors have no chance, i won't surprise if killrate is higher than 80%.

  • Magical Hands = Whenever you unhook survivor safely, this perk gets a token ( Max 5 tokens ). For each token, your heal speed increased for 15% ( 75% max ).

Corrupted Thoughts = Whenever a generator finished, all survivors next to this generator (12m) will be exposed for 30/35/40 seconds.

Poker Face = Whenever you jumped vault or pallet quickly, killer's aura will be revealed you for 5 seconds. 30 seconds cooldown.

  • I am surprised nobody used this but here we are:

You are my sweetest Nightmare! Remember Me, even if i Wake Up.

  • I don't like it, hopefully it will never come to game. Especially the PTB version.

I don't know what's mechanically possible, nor is it my job to fix it. I'm not getting paid.

I only listed the problems I have encountered and asked if there was an idea floating around for a potential new endgame.

What if there is no fix and hatch is best fix we have?

  • Another post about hatch is being problem but without solution of how to finish game without it.

Some people really want to back to era where EGC did not exist lol.

  • If you love dash type killers = Wesker and Chucky. They both are my favorite killers tho.

Knight and SM are pretty boring killers but they have different powers. But Knight has Nowhere to Hide and Hibris. Both perks are good, so you can get him for his perks.

Dredge and Sadako are teleport type killers. Sadako also has mori mechanic in her kit, she is not too strong but fun killer. Dredge also has Nightfall mechanic and a bit anti-loop. I am not fan of him tho.

Xeno is Nemesis v2 but you don't have Nemesis either, But you know how is Nemesis. Xeno is just better version of him with teleport power as well.

Larry is the most unique killer here. He has very different and fun power but i should warn you, he is not easy. He is one of the hardest killers to master.

Current killer meta perks are PR from Artist and Pop from Clown. So that did not change too much but a lot perks nerfed and buffed. So you maybe check perk changes to see all of them.

    Other important changes:

3-gen issue addressed with gen tapping as well. Now survivors need to repair gen for 5% to stop regres. And also kicking gens is removing 5% progress which is nice buff to gen kicking.

Also anti-face camp added. So if you facecamp survivors, they will unhook themself. Even in second hook. You can check details in patch notes. This did not effect proxy camp, so this strat is still strong as before.

  • I really don't understand this type questions.

DbD is really big game right now. We have +30 killers in game. So let's say, even most popular killers are feeling like a bit rare. If it was still 10 killers, you would see any killer pretty often. But now, maybe 2 - 3 games in 100 depends to their popularity.

  • @Ryuhi said:

I posted this in another topic, but I have a general idea:

The hatch becomes the "judge" of the survivor. If they contributed enough (emblem progress, maybe a pip requirement) then the hatch is an escape like normal, and it counts the same as an exit gate escape. If they didn't contribute enough, the entity impales them when they try to jump into it and it counts as a sacrifice. No way to know beforehand which outcome you'll get, and key bypasses the check.

The hatch isn't exactly fair as it is, its a pity escape. It is indeed needed to prevent hostage situations (like EGC) but it can still deny the killer of a 4th kill when one person just hides the whole time essentially sandbagging their teammates in the process. I feel like a change like this would make it more fair for survivors/killers who earned their escape/kill.

If they rework survivor emblems, i can support that. And they should anyway. Survivor emblems are terrible bad. If you camped and tunnelled out by killer, you will barely get BPs. Or if you looped killer for good and they did not leave you, you will not get BP from other objectives.

They should rework this too and then i am fine with your solution. Rats should not be rewarded with hatch , i am all for it.

  • I am sure you did. I have no doubts. Good job.

Please answer me if you only have alternative solution to hatch. If you don't , there is no reason to talk anymore for me.

I play in very large majority survivor. As duo or solo, but okay don’t read.

I read enough and your points did not make any sense to me.

Hatch need to stay for the way to finish game fairly for both sides. And it's fix for hostage situations. So If you have different solution for finishing game, shoot it. If you don't, then hatch will stay as it is.

  • @HeroLives said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3646302#Comment_3646302

I’m saying if there’s one gen and 2 survivors that’s fine, doable even. More than 2 gens though and only 2 survivors left(yourself being one of them) the odds are so stacked against you already.

So you have not solution and you just want to get your free kill. Then my answer will be same as other replies: No.

    Thank you so much.

  • That's not solution, that's just big nerf to survivors.

All survivors will start with repair penalty (80% speed on gens) which removes only advantage from survivors: EARLY GAME.

Yes. Survivors are strong only at early game. Why? Because noone is in chase. Noone on hook. Noone is injured. Everyone can repair gens. And we are adding big penalty to this.

And if one survivor dies, it does not matter how much speed you give to team. Because they won't be free to work on gens. Because let's say, one will be on hook, one will be in chase and one will have to go save. That's why 3 v 1 games are mostly ending with survivor loses, that's why killers want to tunnel one survivor out.

So your solution is just big nerf to survivors but no solution of tunnelling. That's not good idea.

  • And how you will finish game when only one survivor left? At this point, sitting on gen as last survivor will be just suicide. So if you have fair solution, please tell me

  • Worst designed power ever, this killer has zero fun to go against. Hopefully we will get full rework for her or problem will just stay.

  • @Exxodus21 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3645612#Comment_3645612

No, you're completely safe if you run away as soon as you see the HUD show the killer is out of chase or as soon as you hear the TR. Eventually the gens will be blocked to the killer so there's nothing to lose in running away until you know the killer is gone.

You are safe if killer don't chase you to down and keep come back to gens. If you chase only for few seconds, ofcourse they won't be scared of you. And the thing you are telling is sounds like you are holding 3-gens which means this system will punish you. I don't see any problem here.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3645588#Comment_3645588

I personally didn't encounter that once.

But to answer your question? Because without gen defense, the gens go even faster in that mode. Try playing against a SWF with coms on that mode and tell me how it goes.

I'd also bet more truthfully, that the MMR for this mode is much more wonky, leading to matches being more wild in that regard.

    20240208200728_1.jpg

Just my last match. This guy tunnelled one person out and at end game, slugged last one for 4K. We could not even finish all gens.

So killers are sweaty as they are in normal DbD. So i just don't believe killers would play more fair if BHVR balance game around hooks, they would just tunnel even more for easier games. They can't play chill even in killer-side game mode.

I am not against good slowdown for killers but it should not come without strong anti-tunnel mechanic and it should not reward unskilled killers as well. Skills should matter. Like how was braindead 3-gen strat and BHVR forced to nerf it.

  • @Exxodus21 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3645588#Comment_3645588

That sucks, but that isn't what we're talking about here.

I know, i just pointed Reinami people won't stop tunnelling just because game balanced around hooks.

Back to topic, that's the point. Devs don't want you to stay in 3 - gen area and go after chases. I would simply rework maps and fix gen spawns but here we are. BHVR created this issue with 3-gen holders ( Knight , SM and Larry ) and they came with this fix. It's still not bad as i expected. But it can be annoying when you lose gens so fast and when you want to defend your last 3 gens as possible as you can.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3645539#Comment_3645539

Probably because people don't WANT to tunnel and camp to win contrary to popular belief. Most killers want to go for multiple chases on multiple survivors rather than cheesing out a victory.

Don't you think it would be better if the game was balanced in a way that playing optimally was actually spreading pressure around and not going out of your way to eliminate someone as fast as possible? You'd see far less people camp and tunnel if it wasn't the most optimal way to win.

So why killers are camping and tunnelling in Lights Out mode? Heck, even they are slugging people for 4K.

That's mode pretty much favors killers. Survivors have not strong items or perks. So chases are most likely faster. But yet, killers are still going after one survivor who is just unhooked. Maybe people just love easy games?

  • Unnamed narrator is a girl. So we have unnamed girl, Ashley and Tyler.

Honestly the teaser and story looks intereting and the killer looks like another monster type. And the monster also used Ashley's voice, maybe killer will be skinchanger? Hopefully.

  • I am seeing sometimes people are writing balance game around hooks but nobody is telling how.

The only thing comes to my mind: game will reward you for hooking survivors with some slowdown. Some base-kit regression. That will work only if you hook different survivors ofcourse.

But problem is: what will stop me to don't do soft tunnelling? What i mean? Instead of one survivor, keep hook 2 survivors. A, B, C and D are survivors in your game. Instead of A, focus on A & B and keep hook them. And with this way, i will get slowdown from hooks and playing around tunnelling as well.

I really don't know how we can balance game around hooks without breaking the game.

  • @Reinami said:

Once you get a few modes that exist, please just have it be a rotating mode that is always available at all times. Like, every week we get a new mode, and it rotates in and out what it is, so that there is always some fun mode to play outside of regular queues.

Then if you make a new mode and people don't like it, you can easily take it out, tweak it and rotate it back in a couple months later, or take it out of the rotation completely.

Yes hopefully and they can improve those mods as well. Like they will take feedback and hopefully they will make them better for everyone.

Like Snowman event for an example. First year, it was survivorside. Later it turned killerside. But last year, we had best snowman event and i honestly enjoyed so much.

  • @Peanits said:

This is our first modifier, so we're still experimenting to find what works best. There's a couple reasons why it's only available for a limited time, but a big one is to help get matches going in the modifier. If it were available permanently, there would eventually come a point where the novelty wears off for many people and they move on, leading to extremely long queue times for the few people who still want to play it. Like an event, we'd like for modifiers to be fun things that pop up from time to time that people are excited to take part in.

There will be more modifiers in the future, though, and it's not out of the question that popular modes could return in the future. Any feedback is welcome!

Hopefully 5 v 5 is next. Make killers and survivors together, nobody can complain about any balance issue since you have both roles in your team

  • Chucky, this little man is so fun in this mode.

  • Try Chucky, he is really so scary to face. He is already hard to see and in this mode, it's even better.

  • Mod is fun. If it is not for you, then simply don't play it. They did not remove normal mod, yes?

Also this is first time DbD is really feeling like horror game. Killers are coming from nowhere. Heck, even my teammated scared me because i did not see her first and then she was on my screen.

This mod is just for limited time. If you are enjoying it, play it. If you don't, just play normal DbD.

They make a lot of good changes but also some really bad ones. Sadako is an example of that. She was pretty decent on the PTB, then they broke her, now they try to fix the issue again. It kind of feels like they are so overly cautious on some things (Alan Wake's perks, Sadako and anti 3 gen mechanic) but more than happy taking a few risks on other things (Hillbilly and Grim Embrace).

There seems to be no consistency. Illumination could be a decent perk, if it wasn't locked behind a dlc (new survivors could definitely use it) but as it is it's sadly quite underwhelming because the players that would actually use it, don't have it and the ones that have it, don't need it. Champion of Light is a bit harder to get right. It's not bad but also not good. Just one of these perks that's not reliable enough to be used more often. Maybe it could add 20% extra battery to flashlights, to make it a bit more consistent.

BHVR did some really good things for new players especially. Reducing prices for old characters was one of the best things ever they did.

Now new player can get Kate, Feng for pretty decent perks. And they also can get Clown, Plague, Hag for some best killer perks. But problem with Alan Wake, his perks are not good for even new players.

Like let's say you are new player. You will have Dejavu which will show you 3 generators all time and generator speed as well. Why would you need Illumination. It's not even best option for new players and like you said, new players most likely won't buy him. And he is not giving any good perk to veteran players as well. But they could buff them to make them viable. Ofcourse non of them is meta changer but having options is always good.

They are doing some fine changes. Nerfing Blight was needed. Billy changes are amazing, that's first time i am enjoying after years. But then why would you nerf Sadako into ground. Sadly upcoming patch tweaks won't make her decent either. But at least she got so buffs. Her counter is still so easy and she still has no chase power or stealth. I hope they keep buff her and don't make us wait 4 years for buffs like Billy case.

  • I'd believe that if they were adding good perks with chapters. But let's be real. Non of new perks are that good and only new good perk we got nerfed to ground (MfT).

BHVR just don't know what they are doing. Like they have some good ideas but they are doing it with terrible numbers. And instead of some tweaks, we are getting terrible nerfs.

  • @squbax said:

As someone said before, if they get downed in the open or at a pallet, just slug, you will not get that hook if they have any idea how to use a flashy/time a save.

But the problem is you don't know if they have Background Player or not. And maybe with slugging, you lost opportunity to use PR and Pop. Hooking survivors are coming with rewards, depends on your perks ofcourse.

So maybe they don't even have BP but you slugged them for no reason and you did not get value from your perks for no reason.

  • Never happened to me tho.

I am using PR + Pop and Nowhere to Hide and never got to max limit. Only sound warning sometimes.

I was trying to hook survivor but somehow it did not let me do it. I thought survivor is cheating but then server crashed.

This game loves to steal wins

  • So this did not happen only to me huh, i was about to kill 3rd survivor in match and then server crashed.

If they weren't buffing other aspects of her kit I'd agree, however clearly they want to make her chase potential better and honestly I like that direction better than focusing on condemn

I will believe that whenever they remove her lullaby, those changes won't make her fine in chase and won't fix her issues. But better than current version i guess

  • If Kate, Mikaela or Jill in game, i will most likely will farm with them. Rest will be killed.

  • Nurse probably will be never fair to face and i just lost my hope on BHVR to rework her. She is not belongs today's DbD. She is busted but i guess devs are fine with it.
