Killing yourself on first hook isn’t breaking any rules and neither is slugging. Both are just annoying.

    This.

I can think of a few reasons to kill myself on first hook. Main one being I'm playing solo and no one's even bothering to come get me, they're all on generators, so I'll try to unhook myself when I'm nearly at the struggle phase, then struggle a bit, but if there's still no one coming to get me, ######### that, I'm not sticking around with these guys, I stop struggling and move on to next game.

Slugging is a valid tactic, but I agree can be used to just be an ass, or for killers who absoooolutely want those 4 kills. There are even perks to support slugging: Deerstalker and Knockout (and maybe other ones, but they're the ones I can think of) and heck even survivors have perks to counter slugging.. No Mither, Tenacity, Unbreakable. Personally, only reason I'll slug is if I know someone's nearby either because I saw them, their scratchmarks, or heard them with Infectious Fright. Especially if it's the last survivor. If everyone's still around, I'll hook then look around where I saw/heard them.

  • There's a livestream tomorrow, I bet it'll start with the next chapter's Teaser, and next week will be the PTB

Yes I know it counters their exploit but at the end of the day it is still boring. I will camp them if they do the exploit but that doesn’t mean I’m finding joy in doing so.

Oh, I'm not arguing that. It definitely is boring. I hate camping. Heck, even when there's only two people left, with gates open and one on hook, if I don't see the second around the hook I'll leave the hook and go look for them, even if that means they both get away. Sometimes they survive, sometimes I find the other guy. But at least I'm actively looking for them, not standing there waiting.

Yes you can camp them but it is SO... BORING! Maybe not boring to those who find enjoyment in camping but I on the underhand don’t find standing in front of hook because the survivor forced me too to Ben thrilling gameplay.

The point of camping hook tech abusers is not to have fun, it's to show them you're not letting them get a free pass, and their teammate will die because of them.

For real. Someone tried it on me last night as a slug. Seems pretty advantageous for a killer to have a hook and a slug in one convenient spot. Anyone who tries to hook tech me just gets their teammate camped. I have two people not on gens at that point. Plus a free hit when the hook tech person wises up and realizes their teammate is going to go into struggle state or die

Same, had a game where someone tried to pull that one on me the other day.. I just stood there staring at them, they eventually ran off when they figured I'd camp and let their teammate die if they stayed there, I didn't give a #########, you're there I see you, you're abusing a bug, I'm not going away.

  • Why is it that the only people who complain about the penalty are the reason they put those penalties in place? Gee, I wonder..

Rage quitting because the game isn't going your way is screwing everyone else in the game over. They prefer making 4 players happy by making them know you're being put in timeout for your tantrum than letting you go scott free like a spoiled brat.

  • Noed is fine. Do bones.

  • Crashes during loading shouldn't penalize you, only when they happen during the actual game.

  • @Prex91 said:

No offense, but I think less bug and more balance and maybe new game modes/mechsnics can make the game 1000 times better, instead of cosmetcs thing (they add 10 cosmetic at least for month yet now).

As was mentioned many times but the developers, the team working on the cosmetics aren't the ones programming the game and taking care of the bugs. Them not making cosmetics anymore won't make bugs go away faster.

  • @zaquintar said:

The game would laugh if you bring the broken nurse in with no perks and addons

No add-ons is easily doable.. No perks should be, too. It'll make it a bit harder but not impossible

  • @tylerdiablo said:

I agree there needs to be penalties for DC'ing, but like most of everyone else said why not fix the issues at hand first? There are people still paying the game and are getting frustrated because of poor quality in game. I've been stuck in multiple maps, not being able to run or move. Hit boxes have a mind of their own. It's just sad to see a game like this be led down a road of mediocre.

People disconnecting was a big issue and it got fixed.

The vast majority of disconnects were in purpose, not crashes or lost connections. And the vast majority of people against the penalties are the kind of people who'd disconnect because they got found first or they missed their decisive strike skillcheck.

I'm glad they implemented the penalty back.

  • @McLightning said:

    Short answer: Yes it should.

This. I love Aftercare, and would love for it to be all game, but that would make it overpowered. It's great being able to see everyone's aura, but I have to be careful not to get hooked if I don't want to lose that ability.

  • Or they could leave the shadow faces and put the character's name under the player's name, so have "Nancy Wheeler" under GOSH

  • @YourManAdrian said:

DC penalty in a game like this Lul This is not a competitive game. DC penalties have no place here. All this is gonna do is push people away and make queue times longer. People are just gonna suicide on first hook. This literally changes nothing.

Hey guys, I found one of the frequent disconnecters!

Yes they have a place in this game. People disconnecting for no petty reasons all the time ruins everyone else's enjoyment of the game. And the ones who do it most are survivors. Making those unwanted people leave will only make queues faster. And making them play the games fully will also make the lobbies faster because they won't be back looking for matches earlier than they should have been. Either way, faster queue times. It's win-win.

But if everyone has 0 perks, then they'd be balanced I guess? The only way for survivors to get items would be through chests too. So nobody could heal themselves or each other :P. That maybe a little broken :P

You do know you can heal other people without perks or medkits,... right...??

  • That would be interesting. I need to try a vanilla run sometime to see how badly I'll do without perks to help me.

  • @Waffleyumboy said:

Killers don't need to be more add on dependent.

This. I like not bothering with add-ons on killers. Making a killer require an add-on to be good means the killer's basekit is weak and should be upgraded.

Next whining step is "please remove survivors from the game" no ?

It would be on par with m1 simulator fans who don't want killers in their games.

Could be made into a Hex perk, too

I'd rather they double all for everyone bloodpoint/shards/rift progression. Tbh the grind for everything is really just to dam long

I really wont be convinced of ever buying a battle pass In any game no matter how you dress it up. I'd rather play a game because I want to not because of a commitment to it.

Maybe so, but if you play enough, you only really have to pay the first time, since you get back the cells you spent, and can just re-use those on the next rift.

And I'm not entirely sure I'd enjoy the game as much if progress was twice as fast, all the time.. Sometimes it can take a while to get things going if you have bad games or bad perks on certain characters, but generally it's not all that bad, especially now with the archives, challenges give lots of bloodpoints just for playing the game and doing simple tasks. 35,000 points for grabbing someone off a generator? sign me up anytime!

  • @Blackhouse said:

Completing generators is not the objective: escaping is the objective, of which completing gens is a necessary step.

Additionally, NOED is not a reward for killers allowing gens to be completed: it is a punishment for survivors missing dull totems.

I know this seems pedantic, but it's important distinctions to make in the aging argument that NOED (in its current form) is in need of changing.

Kinda like the difference between "gates being powered" and "generators being repaired"

Rancor requires all generators to be repaired

Noed requires the doors to be powered

In the end, generators being repaired or hatch getting closed power the doors, so doing all gens or closing the hatch both trigger noed.. but rancor doesn't get triggered if you close the hatch, only if all 5 generators are complete.

Different wordings that mean the same thing half the time.. the other half when it means something else is when you wonder why it's not working ;p

I think Han would fit the bill. He seems like a person who would end up in the Entity.

    Ohhh good point!

And Boba as killer, with a blaster and jetpack ;) I somehow think any Star Wars villain would be a bit overpowered in this game

  • @HipfireBoi said:

Best way to make it so people won't disconnect or kill themselves on the hook when feel like it is to make rank matter. Make the season last 3 months, give a reward in shards or cosmetics the higher was your rank, make it a zero-sum game and ranks are 50 instead of 20. Rank reset makes everyone go back to the 40-50 range. DCing makes you lose 2 ranks

I agree seasons should be longer and everyone's rank should fully reset. Start by making them last 2 months and leaving 20 ranks, and see how it goes before making even more ranks. Too many ranks might not be viable if there aren't enough people on at a time.

  • @Boosted_Dwight said:

I mean I love Star Wars and would love to be Vader chasing after people but he doesn't fit in this game. They should make it a game mode in Battlefront 2 though. :)

Also the force has so many abilities it's hard to only choose one. How about being able to throw pallets at survivors, force pushing windows to break them, throwing his lightsaber at survivors, force choke, etc.

Who would you have as survivor? Jar Jar? Chewbacca? C3P0?

That build is great tho, put on lery's offering and is so funny

Oh yeah. And quick and quiet is good for getting into lockers too, the cooldowns on both quick and quiet and dance with me are shorter than lithe's, so everything is up and running again in no time ;)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1085112#Comment_1085112

    yeah it is (MegHead cries).

Lithe is not good cuz sometimes you get hit trought the window and what's the point of running away if you're already safe (in places like shack, jungle jyms, god loops....)

True. But that's a bit why the three perks are needed for that.. Quick and quiet to go quietly if he didn't see you vault, and dance with me too hide the scratch marks.. Look over your shoulder as you run and if the killer isn't staring at you, find a hiding spot

  • @Brucecastro81 said:

Of course it is, but is boring: you walk, walk, walk and then you keep walking. Gives me anxienty

Better to walk than urban evading everywhere.

I personally prefer lithe in terms of exaustion perks, that way I can run when i want to, and if I need to go faster, I just vault. Paired with quick and quiet, and dance with me, it really does wonders to get places or get away from the killer

I agree about the copyright stuff. But it's worth a try.

They could just do as they did with the earlier characters and take inspiration from, but not enough that it infringes on anything..

  • Good luck to Behaviour to get the kind of money to pay for the copyrights to those!

But yeah it would be neat, Force Push would be a great power to have! Or Force Pull, most likely.. no point pushing survivors away when you want them closer to you. Or Force Choke.. you lift them up in the air at a distance while you close in on them to strike them with your lightsaber

  • @GoshJosh said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1084617#Comment_1084617

But it is, after all, a situational perk. Easily countered by survivors not powering the gates themselves; leaving if they suspect Blood Warden; or going somewhere else on the map away from the gates. And remember that end game collapse is slowed by a downed or hooked survivor.

Perhaps rather than resetting the 60-second timer, it could add an additional 20 seconds for each successive hook? Would that be more reasonable?

If it's so situational, then there's no reason to buff it, I mean, it *is* a situational perk!

The only situation it would be good is if everyone running the perk started slugging and opening the gates themselves, situational indeed.

But yes, 15-20 seconds more would be more reasonable than reseting the whole timer.

I think the DC escalation system should double the punishments faster. 😁

1st: Warning Message About DC Penalties

    2nd: 5 Minutes

    3rd: 15 Minutes

    4th: 30 Minutes

    5th: 60 Hours

    6th: 2 Hours

    7th: 4 Hours

    8th: 8 Hours

    9th: 16 Hours

    10th: DC Ban

    Seriously.

I mean, I don't mind the current ones that much but repeat offenders will just do it a few times and time them well to not really get punished in the end. Basically just a slap on the wrist "tssk tssk don't do that!" and then looking away so they can do it again right away.

  • @GoshJosh said:

Especially with the recent Ruin rework, end-game killer perks and exit gate times need to be revisited. A few ideas (any or all of the following):

    1. Increase base exit game open times. It simply happens all too quick while the killer may be mid-chase, particularly if, say, Adrenaline and/or Hope are in use. And of course the random chance that the gates are across the map, and you're playing a low-mobility killer.
    2. Rebuff Remember Me. This perk can be a powerful option to slow a match down, but not when it requires stacks to be built up against only one player (who may not be seen during the match). The original added gate opening time is fair, in my opinion.
    3. Buff Blood Warden. Make it so that it resets the 60-second gate blocking timer every time a survivor is hooked with a gate opened. It would add more intensity to the end-game choice of going to rescue a fellow survivor or not.

    Thoughts?

    3. would be broken

    Scenario:

    • Gates are powered.
    • Down someone
    • Go open the gate to trigger the endgame collapse
    • Pick up slugged survivor and hook them
    • 60 seconds Blood Warden
    • Chase other people around a bit, you have a minute after all
    • Find someone else and down them after 45 seconds
    • Hook
    • 60 more seconds
    • ...
    • Entity kills everyone because Blood Warden kept the gates blocked the entirety of the endgame
  • @emptyCups said:

    No.

They should buff the XP gain?

For...? Base experience gain for everyone, or for people who bought the pass?

I mean, not putting a cap on the experience gained in a game wouldn't be a bad thing. As long as people don't just idle in games to rack up experience points, or they could just raise the current cap to, say, 800. So a full rift fragment per game if it lasts long enough.

But if you meant for people with the pass, it's a hard no for me. Only reason for that is because you can buy bloodpoints using the shards you gain from the experience you'd get.. so it would be a way of making things pay to win. But if it's the same gain for everyone, go crazy.

Requiring less experience for fragments for paid people wouldn't matter, they'd gain the same experience as everyone for shards, but would get the rift cosmetics faster.

  • This seriously. If I get disconnects, it's almost always after a down or right before a hook. Once in a blue moon I'll get a survivor disconnecting out of nowhere while I'm chasing someone else. But those are super rare occurences. The vast majority are on purpose and it's obvious, too.

  • @antgnstea said:

Do you know the period of time it being reset? Is it each day? Because I don't know the exact time for it. It could be a week. And yes probably in a week I will have disconnection issues or crashes 7 times, not necessarily because of my computer.

Honestly, I have no idea.. But I read somewhere that the decay time for penalties started after the last penalty ended, and that it was over a period of 24 hours.. so maybe you just need to be in good standing for a whole day? Either that and I misunderstood, and you go back down one penalty a day, so if you reach penalty 5, it'll take 5 days to get back to good standing?

Oh man, I had nearly forgotten about the husks. Fingers crossed that they're implemented soon, now that this is going live.

Not sure if they had thought of making the husk come back to life, so to say, if the player reconnects, or if they're just there to allow the killer to down/hook/kill them, rather than have the body just disappear into thin air and denying them the points/pips.. but who knows ;)

I agree, but I would rather have a polished bug free matchmaking that will come later than buggy matchmaking that will come sooner.

Oh definitely, me too! But it's getting out of hand, when new players get matched up against red ranks.. It took me a few months before getting matched against those players, at least I had time to practice against people my own rank. It's like expecting a high school football team to get better playing against an NFL team.

It doesn't help retain their player base if the game's not fun for the players getting matched up against the wrong ranks.

I dont see how the game checking for normal inputs within the game such as a key press not moving a character as normal will be abused.

Imagine someone with the knowhow that writes a little program that blocks keyboards outputs.. the client receives the input, but the program blocks the output from actually being sent to the server. Nothing happens, oh this player's stuck, let's get him out of there, penalty free, in the middle of a chase or whatever situation they feel like getting out of. Tadaaa.

Anything that requires checks on the client side of things can be broken apart and taken advantage of.

  • I forgot which thread I saw this on, but I read 24 hours decay period, starting when the most recent penalty ended. So if you get 4 disconnects, you get a 15 minutes penalty, then after that 4 minutes is over, if you disconnect again in 21 hours, you get to the 5th penalty, which is 30 minutes, then you have to wait another day?

Or did I understand it wrong?

  • @antgnstea said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1083693#Comment_1083693

Yeah, cause bad connection or bad internet are the only reason someone crashes during game.

I am guessing you haven't forced to close the game because of a crash occurring. or stuck in some place, couldn't do anything but DC.

The game is far from smooth atm. There are so many bugs and some of them can be considered as game breaking. I am all for DC penalties, as long as they make it fair. If I would have to wait 1 hour or more for something I am forced to do, I'll be pissed. and probably won't return. They shouldn't made me quit playing a game I love.

I had the game crash on me, but not regularly enough to make a 5 minute wait seem like such a bad thing. And if you read the entire post you quoted, I did also mention bad computers, not just the connection.

And the first two times are 5 minutes.. the hour long wait is after 7 times.. so seriously if your computer gives up on you 7 times in one day...

  • @AhoyWolf said:

They will rework the matchmaking so ranks will be pointless.

Yeah but when? And what happens in the meantime?

I mean, if the rework comes out in 2-3 weeks with the next chapter, I'm fine with it. If it comes out next summer, I rather not have to wait 5-6 months for the fix..

An announcement telling us when to expect those changes would be more than welcome.

I only say that it is the wrong way to give SWF any disadvantage. But providing solo players at least with some benefits, which SWFs have is a much better approach. It doesn't need to be exactly kindred, that was just an example.

Groups that don't say "I could use a heal, I am at this spot" are pretty rare. There are hardly any teams grouping up that don't communicate.

Sad to tell you this, but there are many perks that allow you to find others.

I run Bond and Better Together on survivor lately, both solo and with others. That way, if I need heals, I can find others easily, or they can find me working on generators if they want heals. Or I can see if they're being chased not too far from me, without requiring them to let tell me, and they know where I am so they know not to bring the killer my way unless they really have to, and if they do, I'll see them coming and can go hide before they reach me.

Other perks are we're gonna live forever, because bloodpoints on the survivor side sucks so it's good to have a little bit of extra, and prove thyself, because with bond and better together, I do coop actions more, so why not.. but I was tempted to bring Kindred as well, for extra aura reading and knowledge. Might switch it out for a few games to see how it goes, and try to pay attention to my altruism and objective scores, see if prove thyself is necessary for points or just the speed boost it gives, or if I can just do without.

But yeah anyway. Wanting to give basekits an upgrade because people won't use the perks that do just what people are wanting is a bit too much, honestly. (on both sides, not just survivor, I see suggestions to make stuff like noed basekit on killer....)

But that's just my opinion. I feel like solo players are in a nice spot right now. Yes they need more love, but giving them advantages over groups just because most groups use voice chat is ridiculous.

What I would be for though is if they revisited perks, like they did with Kindred, to make them more useful in general, for solo players, but also for groups. And making sure that any new perks that get released with future Chapters take these two types of players in consideration.

  • @Duckodb12 said:

Ranks need done away with completely.

True. I mean, I know they're reworking the whole ranking and matchmaking system, but until that comes out, they need a temporary fix to this mess that's happening right now, with everyone and their mom being red ranked survivors and even brown ranked killers getting matched against 4 of them.

  • @twistedmonkey said:

Personally I think there should be an option when pressing escape so you can ask the game to check for these circumstances. The system should be able to see inputs happening from the user side and not working within the game.

It should then give you an option to leave free of punishments and thank you for the bug report.

And then grievers and toxic players will just start abusing that, and we're back at square one.

  • Sorry to burst anyone's bubbles, but people with bad internet connections or bad computers (or both) shouldn't be playing online multiplayer games in the first place anyway.

  • @arcnkd said:

Well, it isn't so much that no one deranks enough as much as a problem that many people purposefully derank too often which makes rank based matchmaking too hard. Also with how simple it is to actually gain ranks over time, ranks shouldnt be the end all indicator of a player's skill. I am currently 7 Surv and sometimes I play like that. Other times I am a potato. My killers are only like 15 or so because i have been doing a lot of swf lately.

Oh I agree with that. I'm hovering between 3 and 4 on survivor and honestly I'm only red rank because I play a lot, not because I'm good. I suck at getting chased and looping and juking. Sometimes I somehow manage to get chased for a while, and then next game I go down in 10 seconds.

I'm around 8-10 on killer, and I get matched with red ranks a lot lately (like everyone else, I guess), and regularly get 4 kills, or at least everyone on hook once or twice, but don't rank up enough because I also get bad games where generators get done too fast, but I run perks I like to have fun, not the meta perks to win. I'm better at chases as the killer than survivor though, that's for sure haha

  • Figure I'd kick this one up since it didn't get many views.. guess no one else than me runs Spies from the Shadows so it's not a priority for anyone

  • On survivor, honestly I don't really have one (I run We're Gonna Live Forever on everyone just for the bonus points but that doesn't change the way the game plays at all)

On killer, either Barbecue or Nurse's Calling.

1 … 21 22 23 24 25 … 34
