  • Unless there is something next to me, I like to get a lay of the land; find a possible couple of gens or sector I'd like to focus on, and avoid the 3 gen problem earlier rather than later. I like planning what I'm going to do. However, more often than not it's a bit more chaotic than that.

  • If you're playing a Killer such as Hag or Blight, and you face-camp, does the stench from the survivors emptying themselves make you feel nauseous, or has the close proximity to their crotch on a regular basis made you impervious to it?

If free will was the only part in the equation companies wouldn't spends billions in advertising. Fruit analogy aside, I recommend you catch a few episodes of Brain Games.

Just sounds like shifting the buck to me. I've never seen Brain Games though. Why should I watch it?

I'm sorry, but I take issue with the victimhood in this post. Literally no one here gets bullied because they're please, their content is usually followed with an insult of those who are unhappy with the state of the game. A lot of history revisionism here. They are called entitled, whiny, I've seen people go into details as of why DBD's current state will not work for the community in the long run get shut down with "You meanie meanie heads! <3".

One thing I must ask and I am asking you...what are we missing? I'm not coming at you, I am asking a genuine question. What is it about the other side we must empathize about exactly? Disdain towards the criticism of your favorite product? I've been there but I also know to suck it up then move on. What is there to empathize with? No one was able to answer this question. You can be happy with a product then acknowledge that it's in desperate need of a change. There's several people I am still civil with and respect despite our disagreements.

You could say the same about the other side. Threads downplaying the issue and insulting those who are concerned about it, people shaming people for their outrage "Everyone so angry XOXOXO" and if I'm being honest? Yes. A lot of the responses do reek of intellectual laziness. I could understand in game community's woes feeling like a small minority but you're talking about a literal mainstream issue that has been covered in media. Game companies are going to court over these live services. The fact that these do not belong in Dead by Daylight should be as clear as the grass is green. All of it boiled down to entitlement. Naturally people would get annoyed.

Personally I think debating is fine, but it's a waste of time. We're just going to argue in circles. Players need to vote with their wallets. Not that the outrage will do any good, everyone will forget tomorrow. Ironically this is the most this community has ever been united.

You need to empathise with why people choose what they do. If you see someone who disagrees, getting annoyed with them is a useless tactic. You need to actually understand why people are content. They do not see the faults the same way you do, so saying they're simps or white knights or any other keywords that so happen to be at hand is going to make them strengthen their position even more.

You're asking people to vote with their wallets. Without debate, it's a blind tactic. Only some will do it, whilst people who enjoy the game won't. No debate equals no change.

Also, there is no "victimhood" here. It's a call for people to stop this whole "Oh, you disagree? Well, you are a simp" mentality. Never once did I say this was bullying. It's about mocking and shaming in a vague attempt to change people's minds. I suggest this is something you need to look at yourself and ask yourself "Why did I interpret this post as that". Something clearly struck a chord in you.

  • 925_235647.jpg

Ribbing aside, I do empathise with you about the state of play you find yourself in as killer. But are you actually going to feel any better doing this? You can bring a Mori every game, but that won't change survivor attitudes. Most likely, they'll get worse. Maybe it's best to leave the game for a while? Play something less likely to annoy you as badly? You'll probably feel better doing that and coming back afterwards, than continuing this cycle.

I hope you feel better amd less stressed soon.

  • With the frequency those maps come up, your dc penalties are gonna be pretty high!

Rather than give up, maybe try some alternative ideas. Mess around with playstyles. Meme. Learn from it to get better. Everyone goes through this, and with practice I'm sure you'll do well :)

I totally agree with Demo being really interesting due to it not being human and all that. It could seriously become an actual nightmare.

I agree with your illogical head canon LOL. I think that PH wouldn't let Blight even get near him. But Blight was able to get the Nurse and Spirit even though they can leave reality so maybe he'd be able to get PH but they would definitely need to explain how he managed to do that. Also I can't see him being able to get Myers or Freddy due to one being pure evil and I genuinely think Myers would just kill Blight effortlessly and Freddy is a dream world kinda guy.

How did Talbot manage to catch the killers in the first place? What did he have that others dodn't? Moreover, why did he not gather the survivors together and use this opportunity to end the killer, instead of playing Frankenstein with?

What you call "willingness to buy", I call "falling for it". To-may-to to-mah-to.

Every micro-transaction game tries to excite that part of your brain that controls your willingness to buy something. Those that fall for that marketing ploy spend money.

That discounts free will. The people make a conscious decision to purchase, with the exception of addiction. Falling for it implies someone was tricked or manipulated. Willingness to buy means they know what's happening and choose to do it with no edging. That part of the brain that's stimulated is only a small part of the overall decision-making.

You can keep your fruit analogy though. I don't like tomatoes, no matter how you pronounce it. :p

  • It might be different survivor tactics you're coming up against that you've not experienced, or an increase in the quality of players.

However, it may well just be a natural ebb and flow. In an experiment conducted on pilots, they tried to find out how people's performance reacted to positive or negative encouragement. What they actually found out was that both approaches had little overall effect on pilots passionate about their job. Instead, they had a certain level of skill they reached, that they would sometimes either exceed or fall short of, but then would come back to their original level.

Basically, you may just be hitting a lower performance, but will probably bounce back. Try not to become too concerned with this. :)

  • It boils down to the basic "Why can't you be more like me?" want. Someone makes a statement another disagrees with, and they feel offended or annoyed that this person cannot see what they see, whilst ironically refusing to see why the other believes in what they do.

Instead, they demand you change and become insulting. They'll tell them they're "sheeple" for towing the line, yet if you changed your mind to their way of thinking you are a free-thinker, when actually the complete opposite has happened.

Some have forgotten how to be civil and debate with empathy. You won't win those battles, so try not to participate in them. Instead, debate with those with different views who respectfully challenge you, rather than make vague comments.

However, I wouldn't recommend telling people to get schooled. That's asking for flak.

  • Trapper's the poster boy. It makes sense for him to be DBD's contestant.

  • @jhiieri said:

The reason this happens is because people choose to fall for it and spend money on this game... For skins. Plain and simple.

The saddest part is that they think they are supporting a game they love. Or that's their reason anyway.

What happens instead is that it motivates the developers to worry more about what skin they'll sell you next instead of fixing the dozens of bugs, glitches, and programming errors that have been in the game so long people call them "techs" or "strats"

I think the problem isn't that people are "falling for it" and purchase a skin to support the game. Moreover, the issue is people aren't buying a skin to support a game; they're buying a skin because they want the skin. It's little to do with actively supporting a company consciously. They know what they want. They know where the money goes. There is nothing to fall for. It's a willingness to buy.

I'd love a system like this. Something like Overwatch has, where you can give a commendation based on how teammates performed. They could evne make it so that players who are more positive would be matched to likeminded players, and make solo so much less of a nightmare.

Also, props to the gameplay! You're pretty good, though what the hell was that Myers doing?! I was screaming at my screen 'Just break the f'ing pallet!'

Actually, yeah, I'd also like to compliment them on their gameplay. That move by knocking the pallet down to make Myers think they were going one way but weren't at all was good, quick thinking!

  • What's most concerning to me is the inability for some people to accept how others have reacted, and are affectively shaming them into guilt; saying they're easily pleased or simps or other crap.

Personally, the devs have cocked up. Mainly in terms of the cosmic cosmetic blunder, which does belittle those who have saved up for them. Those want justice, and I support them. Does this mean that those who are actually happy with the game and the devs should illogically change their thought process because they have a dìfferent experience? Absolutely not.

If you want a united front, it makes much more sense to use a lot more empathy of the other side amd treat them as equals, and talk on a level field, rather than look down on them as "they're content with mediocrity" or "they're clearly not intellectual". That does nothing, other than damage that cause. It's playground politics.

Those who are like that need to drastically re-evaluate their tactics, otherwise you'll end up creating more resistence and you will lose. People have the right to thiink what they want. If you believe they're missing something, talk to them as an equal, not a neckbeard.

  • I'm surprised the other three survivors fell so easily! They performed terribly, and as usual with those types they'd rather blame another than take any responsibility for themselves. They're probably spoilt and immature.

Gameplay-wise, when it's you vs the killer, and he's chasing you there's bugger all you can do. You did some good evading, but it's purely that they were useless.

The only thing I would change would be to not respond to them in post-chat, or if you do say something like "gg" or "love you too". Responding back only ever makes things worse. Just walk away next time. Let them figure out how to play the game first.

  • I love the positivity you've brought out of this! *boops snoot*

  • Maybe they're asking for permission!

Some people get narked, but to me it's extra bp, so I take it as playful baiting. Normally, after the trial I'm decent with them and they are with me, so I don't mind them having those moments.

On an exceptionally rare occasion, there is always that one survivor who doesn't quite estimate the distance between them and the exit line. Those are blessed times!

  • Usually, it's to speed up one of the last few gens when it's close to finishing (I don't waste it on the first. Best used when there's time pressure)

Otherwise, the alternative uses for me include a) stopping a hook by sabotaging the hook, or b) if a survivor comes on the gen using Streetwise, in which case I make the most of it.

I did check the csv data used for this chart, two remarks:

    1) The most popular month was August 2018 when it was free (from 1081700 to 5567900 players);

    2) The latest date available (2020-10-18) is before the latest patch (which broke the game for ps4 players);

Yeah, it was the 18th October that the last data was done, so I do expect it to tank. At the same time, it's still a healthy number. Interestingly, I never knew so many played on console! I genuinely thought PC had more, but this trumps those Steam stats easily - even though we shouldn't take stats too seriously...

... why do we bother with stats again, if they aren't taken seriously?

  • For killer: Huntress. I just love powerful women!

For survivor: Cheryl. When she came out on SH3 her character was brilliant, and I'd definitely get on with her.

  • 《Bill, Laurie, Quentin, Tapp, Ash, Steve, Nancy and Cheryl see Jane Romero》

"Oh my God, it's her! Oh, she is such a brilliant presenter! I am awestruck"

《Jane sees them staring at her》

    "Who the Hell are you?"

  • Is that girl one of Freddy's "nursery rhyme girls"?

    a-nightmare-on-elm-street-freddy-nursery-rhyme.jpg

Did Freddy and Myers meet before? 🕵️‍♂️

  • It would be the most interesting in terms of morphing it into a true nightmare.

I have a very illogical argument about Pyramid Head becoming affected, since the recent pack of outfits advert description depicts the killers as tortured with no hope of escape and Pyramid Head is too powerful in my head canon.

  • It has way too many grey areas. Not just that, but where people may claim they were tunnelled or camped when actually it was nothing like it.

Like it or not, they are strategies. In some cases it's the only road to take. I don't like it any more than the next, but just go to the next round and see if you can learn anything from that round.

  • The negativity towards them feels like it comes from a vocal minority of the player base. Sure, the majority may also have comcerns, but either they don't see it as sufficiently problematic, or maybe they just send tickets and leave it as that.

There was a post recently about "The beginning of the end" which cited Steam statistics (which the guy did say take stats should be taken with a grain of salt) and showed the player loss. However, I also found this information for PS4:

    Screenshot_20201024-090100_Samsung Internet.jpg

This seems to show it's still pretty healthy.

People become more motivated by negativity. Plus the strong emotions behind it generate more views. Positivity is not as strong a feeling, but it should be. Nice post OP👍

  • It's how she's played. A common mistake is trying to target survivors who are trying to take the traps off. Good Pig killers I've seen let the survivors run around removing the trap (unless they so happen to cross paths), and focus on others. A survivor dealing with a trap is less likely a survivor doing gens, especially since gens start the progress. So the game is slowed.

That helps a lot. She's far from over-powered, but played right and she can cause a heap of trouble. I'm just glad she's higher than Ghost Face, honestly! :D

  • Honestly, none of them. It's not the perk I don't like but the way the player uses them wrongly. In the right hands, they're very useful. But sometimes the player is just ... odd!

For example: someone has self-care. Regardless, if that player sees another nearby, run over and get them to heal you. If someone comes over to you whilst injured, let them heal you. Self-care is really only a perk for dire situations when there's no other way.

Perks are helpful, but it's how you play overall. A good perk build does not make a good player. A good player makes perks work optimally.

  • He was good when pointing out factual information, especially regarding the excess of meat and the historical commentry on other games which had similar downfalls, battle passes, etc. He lost it a bit with when he started letting his emotions take over, which was a shame since he was providing decent commentry up to that point. He's clearly passionate though.

Sounds overall that various solutions include to maybe switch the creative in charge of new chapters over to a more mechanical role and re-invent the game - reducing the number of new characters in favour of new mechanics; increase the shard quantity and frequency (something I've always wondered why they never did); and slow down the number of patches to more quality-driven ones that introduce as fewer bugs as possible. The quick patch changes seem to be problematic. Obviously, there's more, but an overhaul of the game to make it fresh and more engaging for players may be the way forward.

  • I'm inclined to back OP on this. Overall, this game has been a lot of fun, and albeit there have been times where it did go wrong (a patch that screwed fps; ill-judged compensation for the Halloween event; that bloody hill!), they've fixed then - well, not the Halloween cosmetic debacle yet, but let's see what happens.

It would help when people complain that they're more civil about it. Taking the cosmetic example, I do understand people being cross when they spend a lot of shards on a new cosmetic, just for it to be dropped in a day or two - something that just shouldn't happen for new cosmetics. However, a portion of those who are annoyed just going into spoilt brat rage mode, rather than being adult about it, saying why they're upset and posing a solution (refund the excess shards). There are fortunately a fair few who don't do that, but there are also those who just have a temper tantrum, and those are the ones who damage the cause.

It's also not helped when - again a minority - disagree with what someone says, but rather than be diplomatic and either debate it or disagree, they just end up name-calling ("You've voiced that you've been treated well, therefore you're a simp" - makes literally no sense!).

I'm glad there are those who challenge the devs. I'm also glad people share the positive experiences. There needs to be a balance. Currently, the game isn't in the best of health states, and from what I've heard and seen the PS4 needs some urgent attention. It can be better, and it can improve through the slump. But it does also require a passionate community to help it as well.

  • Xbox player here. It hasn't been the same from my experience. It's been quite some time since I've seen a truely scummy killer, and whilst it's been more recent in terms of survivors being scummy, it's not been anything close to how it was a fair few months ago.

Obviously, everyone has different experiences, so am not doubting you at all. I'm just not seeing anything close to that from what I've come across.

    Is it a platform thing?

  • Honestly, I flicked on this topic title and read it as "Dev's hard on is on the list of changes".

  • I think one main issue here is that, whilst there was indeed a post about discounts on selected items and cosmetics, the reduction in Hallowed Cursed cosmetics is noted as a bonus for the Hallowe'en event, not a reduction as part of the sale. It's not often expected that a brand new item is produced, only to reduce the cost dramatically within a matter of days. Normally it's a couple of months down the line at the next sale event. I'm thinking that this is the main issue.

It could be argued that earning the shards is free, so technically the outfit is free regardless - and there is that as I originally thought! Although, after pondering about it, it's still shards people may have been saving up especially for the event (and to earn that amount takes a long time!).

I will say I think this was more a knee-jerk response to the original complaints to the event. Ironically, if they just stuck to the free shards and bloodpoint sale they've done and not put in the bonus, I'd back BHVR in their response and say it's actually a decent answer! It's just by trying to over-please people with the cosmetics, they made a huge mistake.

They may have been with good intentions - and no, I don't side with any argument about it being a malicious move because if anything it's gonna cost them for those who'd rather use Auric Cells tha save up. But it was that they tried to do that extra step which has inadvertently belittled those who bought them earlier.

  • Maybe she just had an epiphany and discovered she is just a sprite in a computer game which, unlike if it was the real realm of The Entity, there is really no way out! They're becoming sentient!!

Rotten Fields is way worse imo. I dont mind shelter woods from either side

I agree with this, as it's the most boring map to play on. A shack in the middle with some bits around the outside. Dull as heck!

Although, Shelter Woods could do with more stuff to do. The trees at least are plentiful and offer something, but it is devoid of much else. At the very least make the map larger so the gens can be spaced out more.

  • I do stuff with people who can't do stuff. Sometimes, stuff can be done, but stuff is still needed doing. My stuff helps do their stuff, but doesn't do their stuff always. My stuff stops them from being stuffed.

I think that sums it up nicely!

Just a bit aside from the topic (and absolutely no negativity meant at you at all) but I thought the forum had a swear word filter, or that's what I've been told by mods.

How did you get that C word through? I'm kinda impressed! :D

  • As a survivor, a killer perk I'm happy to come across is Infectious Fright, as it suddenly means I have to be more than just complacent and hiding nearby. Makes me realise I need to run and quick! Or NOED - I genuinely enjoy that last minute panic and the story that comes from it.

As a killer, a perk I enjoy running against on a survivor is Head On, because that's usually a fun surprise and makes me more cautious of those lockers. Also, as rare as it is, I like Babysitter. Makes me know I'm against selfless individuals, which I pay a decent amount of respect to.

  • In terms of how they've been when I've took them on as killer - Adam Francis. Out of all of them, he stands out as the character played as a janky lil' prick by survivors.

In terms of character, Feng Min. She sounds like a really arrogant and smug character, with little interest in others. She probably sees it as a game (I know it is, but say it wasn't) and sees other survivors as npcs. Don't like her.

  • The killer was probably adjusting his tactics, but also showed ... I wouldn't say anger necessarily. More a paranoia.

Think of it from this perspective: the killer had (maybe) had recent experiences with sabo squads. Maybe they've decided that once one sabotages they no longer feel they can risk the fact that others may do the same.

It does feel excessive, but the killer also has a right, and their reasoning may well be based on more than anger.

  • Keep using the blinks. Regardless of whether they hit or not, or the comments you may get, you know that you're practicing and that's all that matters. The more you do it, the more you'll become familiar, and ultimately the more accurate they'll become.

  • The Trapper is my main powerhouse. Mainly because of my unpredictable nature with trap placements and ability to "shepherd" survivors to those areas, I am able to do pretty well with kills. Killers which are more strategic than aggressive are the ones I play better at.

These are both good points, but the thing is it's an online multiplayer game. You won't be having the same exact game twice so the horror should be coming from player interaction. It just has to be backed up by the game in a stronger way. There's a reason you can come back to online games after hours of playing, so there should always be reasons to come back and get scared.

That might come from adding the unexpected. The start of any game is a little unnerving, not knowing who the killer is. Yet once that aspect is discovered the game takes on familiarity and the sense of fear goes.

I agree interraction is important. In fact, it's key since no matter how scary any game is, the experience of the player is what's most important. You could have the best graphics ever, but if the player's not into it then it loses any sense of fear.

The game could benefit from various random game modes, more randomization of maps and map tiles, a more powerful killer and a sense of urgency. Probably more if I think of any. But the sense of immersion and the unexpected is certainly a big factor in bringing fear back.

  • It's a definite improvement from my experience. There are some trials that don't always match well, but honestly the majority feel balanced. Whatever has happened recently has been well. May not be the same for everyone though.

  • This feels like the crappest ever origin story for a Batman villain :D

  • Both have learning opportunities, and sometimes the Bully swf are more a memer squad who are probably happy to survive or not, so long as they enjoy themselves.

I suppose with any swf, look to improve an aspect of your game, rather than try for the win. A bully team is good to learn loops, out-play and prepare for anything that can cause you to drop a survivor. A gen rush may be more a tactical plan as to how to 3 or 4 gen themselves. Failing that, maybe practice defending a particular gen they're focused on.

Whichever way, make sure you get something out of it.
