  • Can´t really say.

Played against some good Pigs lately and there are pretty mean perk/addon combos which destroyed us.

But buff… not really and nerf… also not really

But why should you use this perk (I think it is a super quick suggestion from you, so it might be not perfect which is okay) over Of The Record? OtR hides your aura for 80sec even when healing or working on a generator which is a super long time for a dbd match and still protects you against tunnling and gives you stealth by reducing your grunt of pain to zero.

My point is that if the developers ever introduce new aura blocking perks or buff other perks with an aura blocking effect, it should be a healthy one and not an unhealthy one just because some players are a bit sensitive when it comes to aura perks. I also suggest that Bite the Bullet could get the aura blocking effect to become more popular but also healthy since it only protects you and your teammates in your weakest moment and this good and fair. I'm not against a rightful amount of healthy aura blocking perks but I'm against unhealthy aura perks that hurt the game and the already - sometimes difficult to play - SoloQ.

Aura blocking to Bite the bullet is not a bad idea.

I get your unhealthy opinion. But only because some people think it should all be chase hiding is not unhealthy for the game. This is one thing that made the game popular.

Also just variety in what you can do.

They used to really think of good perks and synergy back then but today it is variations and strange perks because they have to invent so much of them that they ran out of ideas.

In reality we have more than enough perks and you could simply stop with new ones and it would be ok.

Best thing would be to delete a lot of them but that will of course never happen.

Aura reading just feels cheap in some situations and it is getting worse.

You run into a cross mapping Huntress in maybe 1 in 90 games? Maybe 1 in 150? I’ve seen 2 in over 500 matches, most of them don’t throw past 24 meters.

That was an example. But i just today played against one.

You can add a straight to you rushing Blight or Nurse or Billy too.

It just feels more and more cheap to me not be able to hide anymore.

How about making a perk as a foil to Sole Survivor? Rather than charging with sacrificed team mates, it charges based on your own hooks.

    • After your first hook, your aura can't be seen while healing.
    • After your second hook, your aura can't be seen while healing or repairing a generator.

With Distortion (rightfully) nerfed, it would be good to have more variety in aura blocking.

    I like that idea too.

Then the dead-on-hook survivors can work on generators while the zero-hook survivors can be chased - the killer cannot chase every survivor just because they have an aura perk. The intention of aura perks is healthy for the game because aura perks encourage the killer to go for different survivors which means no camping or tunnling. This is also the intension of the new Distortion that you are save for the first time and then take the attention of the killer to protect your teammates and then you have two tokens and everything is alright until you need to take chase again. I also already explained why the developers don't want that Distortion works with gen repair.

Your suggestion is unhealthy for the metagame for the reason I've already explained.

No. In my opinion all the aura reading is bad for the game.

Also i like the stealth part of the game like the old days. You should not be forced to take chase.

If you are good at hiding you can hide.

Not get found just bacause of wallhacks.

  • Gens are needed for progression. So it is a little bit different here.

Also the Distortion nerf is awful. It would have been better if they tied it to gen repairing.

Sooner or later we will need new anti aura perks.

That's still MMR being a problem and not aura reading, though. If you're matched with really new players when you're not one yourself, nothing about the balance of any perks or addons or what have you is going to change that you've got a gigantic advantage.

Distortion functions well in practice in any other context than the MMR hiccuping. Even then, Distortion works fine, it just doesn't overcome the bigger problem.

Yeah ok. We will have different opinions on that. But i have no problem with that.

We will see what the future brings. I hope all aura reading is getting nuked one day but that may never happen. Imo it is detrimental for the game.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3829924#Comment_3829924

I mean, that's MMR being a problem, not aura reading.

As to the last part, aura reading would only ruin the game if there weren't reliable ways of blocking it, which there are. If you want to play stealthy, there are perks that help you do that, including Distortion.

    In theorie yes, practically not.

As @TheSubstitute wrote it would have been better to tie the tokens to repairing gens not chase.

I think you might simply play at MMR levels where this doesn´t matter.

My games are widely spread between really new (or bad) players and really good ones. The good ones make the game a lot easier.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3829868#Comment_3829868

I have two issues with invoking new players in this context.

The first is, Distortion obviously still works for them and will help protect them from aura reading. It isn't flawless for them, as it isn't for skilled players, and that's fine there as it is anywhere else.

The second is that I genuinely do not know what is actionable about that. New players shouldn't be able to hide from all auras for the entire match because of one passive perk, and aura reading existing is not a problem because it pushes for more interactions between players, so it's kind of just a nothing statement. Besides, new survivors go up against new killers, so the threat of the chase they're in is proportionately lower anyway. They're gonna have to be chased at some point, and they're not gonna be better at chases until they've started practising in real matches, so… no real issue here.

    In my experience not.

If new players would play against new killers it would be ok. But the MMR often don´t work well enough.

As i said, it is not distortion only. It is the sheer amount of aura reading and it is getting more and more. And it hurts newer and not good loopers the most.

Hiding opportunities are shrinking which i find sad. I think aura reading may ruin the game in the future.

Since the subject is Distortion, I assumed.

That's indeed quite the casual build (with WoO being the best perk for chase in this build)

    My usual build is …

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2R4LG34NZDNA/image.png

You get hit, you run with Overcome to break line of sight, helped by Lucky Break, then you start healing and make no noise anymore for a while.

The killer usually loses you, walking right next to you.

Anyway, that's a bit far from the original subject.

Haha, thats a good one. I tested this when Otz or someone had a video about this. They used a Medkit back then.

But i did not always got it to work :-)

And now killer walks past you and Floods of Rage pop and he just sees you.

Thats kind of the whole point. You could and still can hide in this game. Which i think is completely ok in a horror game.

But due to the aura reading more and more of these opportunities are taken away. I think thats sad.

    With Distortion?

How do you see the killer bee-lining to you?

Distortion gives you enough tokens to last quite a while in a chase (15s only to recover a token). From my full-detection killer, it's still pretty strong.

On another hand, when I hear "aggressive", I think of that survivor play style that dies so well. (Opposite style being "respecting" the killer.)

As a general rule, playing aggressive against an aggressive killer isn't the best tactic. (Blight, Nurse, …)

You need a nice balance between stealth and chases. Stealth to not die, and chases because in this game you have to take chases for your team, so it should naturally happen.

    I didn´t use distortion much.

My normal build is Bond, Kindred, and variations of Small Game or WoO or recently Inner Focus and Alert. Or healing stuff - challenge dependend.

I also never used DS or DH. Thats what i mean with casual.

Distortion for chase is pretty meaningless as the players i see don´t last long. Earning a token when you go down doesn´t do much.

It blocks Lethal but the BBQ already gets you now. They may earn one token but Predator uses it if they manage to escape - which most don´t.

That's not really an answer, I'm legitimately trying to help. Most aura perks in the game right now have counters, either in basekit actions (admittedly fairly rare) or in counter pick perks. If you're noticing specific perks are revealing you more often than you'd like, there's almost certainly an answer to them.

The answer might still be Distortion, mind you. That perk's still good.

I know you want to help but you need to help new and bad players which is a problem.

I play pretty often with new players. They try to hide, of course - which is completely logical. They often don´t understand how they get always found and think the killer is cheating.

Aura reading is sadly counter intuitive. Imo the game would be better if it was gone like old times. BBQ was fine but the new stuff is not.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3829719#Comment_3829719

I don't see how it takes hiding as an option away. Not only is Distortion itself still good, but there are two other viable aura blocking perks depending on what auras in particular you want blocked.

Which aura perks are giving you trouble?

I play long enough and also very casual and offensive. So i do my challenges and die already a lot.

But i can recognize the perks and see how quick people go down.

To me it is just annoying trying to hide somewhere and seeing the killer beelining to me.

… also - is today Blight day or something? Ran into three 3 Blights, 2 P100. Were very short games…

  • @albertoplus said:

Basekit yellow mori its fine, it should have been like this since 2016.

If the killer does the mori to you, you were going to die anyways 99% sure.

Slugging did exist before already for hatch, so..nothing changes.

Playstyle has changed. You notice it.

  • Awful change.

Run into killers with a lot of aura stuff all the time now.

Takes hiding as an option away. Sadly makes the game less tactical. And imo only hurts new and bad players who mostly can´t cahse well.

It is not Distortion, it is the aura reading stuff which should be dialed back big time in the game overall.

  • Not sure if it is sarcasm or not.

    Mori is horrible.

  • For me it is fixed on PC / Steam.

    My game loads normal again.

  • Distortion nerf is bad for those who need it.

They usually can´t chase long. So pretty useless. And aura perks are on the rise. Will mostly hurt new players.

  • Not yet played today but yesterday i stopped playing on PS4 because the match got very choppy and bloodweb was super slow with saving.

  • Still to much aura reading.

Distortion still not really usable anymore for players who need it.

New players and those who can´t loop may not even last 15 secs and then go down because they don´t escape the killer.

I really don´t like that they are removing all stealth from the game.

I just checked it and this is a dumb gimmick. You need a player with no mither plot twist to constantly go down and get healed by a guy with WGLF. As a killer you can just tunnel out the no mither and the entire strategy is neutered. Even if you don't know where no mither guy is you can just ignore them because while you're chasing hte guy with inner focus you can just hold W and do no mind games to force the tall wall pallets down and you'll probably win anyways because only 1 survivor is repairing gens while 2 survivors are just repeatedly triggering inncer focus in a corner of the map.

If you are a very good killer you probably can do this.

But you should not forget that most players aren´t.

  • Distortion is still weak. Requiring chase is bad.

People used it to not get chased because they usually go down in 5 seconds.

Stealth was always a viable part of the game. Only a lot of forum members constantly cry about everything should be chase there are a lot of player who don´t want that.

Same with the way to much aura reading nowadays.

  • We all would like this option.

The said some time ago they are working on something. I hope they still do.

Items i will never use piling up. Why ever use less fog item?

  • Watch The Hans Guy new video - extremely broken combo with Inner Focus.

Seemed to be corrected already - which is good in this case.

  • This is not new, they often did this.

When the changes come out and they see how some of them created very unfair not intended usages (usually the YT videos pop up with broken combos) they reverted stuff in the next update.

And that is a good thing imo.

Just saw Hens video about Inner Focus glitch which already seems to be corrected in this update.

  • Had this sometimes whit the smoke bombs - they muffle the sound - thats ok.

But sometimes the muffled sound just stays after the smoke is gone. On PS4 and PC / Steam.

  • We need her shorts.

  • Only Level 1 if active at the moment.

You can reach Level 2 or 3 due to some items but can not select it yet. They go active in a few days.

  • I still hate that they removed the Next and Previous buttons for cycling through your chars :-( It is awfully clunky.

  • Yeah… as normal player this is very very difficult to almost impossible.

Just loop as your favourite Youtuber or most here in the forum - the have no problems with that.

  • @KerJuice said:

Aura reading is not healthy for the game, and there are way too many perks that allow you to see the opposition. It feels cheap to go against. At the very least these need to be dialed back and no more aura reading should be implemented in future perks. If it was up to me, I would keep Barbecue and Kindred, then delete the rest.

"… would keep Barbecue and Kindred, then delete the rest."

Agree, that would be the best solution!

  • Not fixed after the new patch.

Just had this on Steam / PC.

Entity Claws pierce make no sound.

  • Play on console (because no chat) or close end game chat on PC.

You will never have a problem again.

  • Don´t buff Legion.

    Already annoying enough.

  • Stop taking this game so serious.

A lot of the so called "problems" are in reality nothing.

This is a game and has nothing to do with real life. If you projecting anything into this it is only you.

Stupid people are everywhere. If you have to deal with them in real life that can be a problem but not in a virtual game. There is a big difference.

  • All i see is a strange Nurse player.

Best to ignore like it looks you did. Tab out. If people don´t react to it it becomes boring soon.

You forget that as soon as you are in the next game.

  • Two things - at the moment there are a lot of sound bugs… so some sounds are not right.

Also they asked about this in the survey.

Dynamic wheather and/or more dynamic environments.

So at least they are thinking about something. Doesn´t mean we get anything soon…

But i would also think a bit more wheather effects would be really cool.

And yes that would be bad for killers but imagine a match with windy rainy thunderstorm with lighning :-)

2v8 aura reading is far more balanced because the survivor always knows when it's happening. These days in 1v4, your aura can be revealed for countless reasons, some of which are completely out of the survivor's control and the majority of which give no indication that it's happening.

Yes, in base it is even getting worse.

But also if i know i am being revealed it doesn´t matter if the killer just ran past me hiding behind a wall or in a bush and a gen popped and i get revealed and instantly downed after that because he just sees me.

I don´t like that they are taking the stealth part more and more away from the game.

  • The game needs less aura reading not more.

Aura reading hurts new and not so good players the most.

    Bad change overall.

  • In 2v8 the aura reading was even more awful than in base game.

For me aura reading is way to much overall. They should make less not more. Only hurts new and not so good players.

  • The progression is slow.

There is never really enough BP.

I don´t want to imagine starting a fresh game now. The grind for new players must be awfully slow.

  • If its a good Nurse and good Blight it will be a stomp fest.

  • Just had this on Steam / PC.

Killer has long gone on the other side but the chase music stayed active for a long time. Against PH on Swamp.

  • Just had this on PS4 with Feng.

  • I don´t remember my dreams.

But I guess he is coming sometime. The Alien net scarred skin is from the movie. I think this is kind of a teaser.

Predator is pretty iconic as well.

And i really want a jungle village map with the chapter.

    Well said.

I still like the game and hope for the best.

There is no game like DbD. A lot tried but yet failed.

And if the game wasn´t as good as it is people won´t complain al the time - that is the passion that kepps the game successful.

Game will die if nobody argues and is angry about it anymore.

    You got it :-)

But in fact this is one reason why this game is so successful.

The killer is faster in a straight line, but not so much on loops, and in regards to stronger, the killer is outnumbered 4 to 1.

Unfortunately what you are describing is how the game was originally designed vs. what it became.... and what it became was an accidental byproduct of the fact killer have a larger hitbox and thus can't get around terrain as quickly.

Looping and the mind games associated with it have become the primary mechanic the game is built around, and is a mechanic sorely lacking in many other games that have attempted to copy DBDs success. It evolved away from hiding and stelath, and looping became the entire point of the game.

Aura perks aid with that, and while I do appreciate stealth since that is the more authentic horror experience, DBD wouldn't have found anywhere near the success it has if looping wasn't the primary focus of the game.

    You are right with that.

But not long ago both still worked in game.

It seems that they walk more and more away from stealth. Also a lot of techs and tricks get removed to simplify the game overall. I think this is sad.

Players who can´t loop are getting stomped. And these are often new players → bad game experience → not playing longer → no new players.

It was obvious that something like that would happen. We get 4 chapters with at least 6 perks - or more. Now often altered perks of another existing perk.

In reality we have enough perks and the power creep is more detrimental.

  • @UndeddJester said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3808148#Comment_3808148

Sure, but take away the killer terror radius completely so that survivors don't get an early warning to hide before the killer can even get line of sight. Survivors already enjoy a third person view vs. Killers limited first person view, so they have no need for an early warning system. That seems to be fair.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/426699/dev-update-on-distortion

Regarding the Distortion update, as others have said, it does feel like 2 stacks is a fair and reasonable buff to the perk in its current state.

Yeah but the killer still has powers, is faster and stronger.

This is how it was originally designed. And this was a very good design choice.

Aura reading was very very limited in the beginning - rightfully so.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3807454#Comment_3807454

What killer is running this sort of overkill aura build except huntress? You're better served running game stall than aura on 90% of the cast. Especially if you're playing a standard terror radius killer, then you're never going to be able to use up all the distortion tokens.

I just don't understand why people have to make up these exaggerated scenarios to prove their point. When the witch hunt was "haste perks" and I'd have to ask: which haste perks? Then they just stutter and uhm and ah play with your food something something. Like that isn't one of the worst perks in the game. Good on precisely one killer with one specific build.

Now it's aura perks. Guess what? You're only ever going to see three aura perks in your games. NtH, lethal and BBQ unless you're playing vs a huntress or trickster. Then they might have darkness revealed. Maybe. There could be fifty aura perks in the game but most of them are at the level of awakened awareness, so who cares?

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3807501#Comment_3807501

Like what aura stuff? Specifically? You can't just wave your hand at an entire suite of perks and say yeah these bad boys are problematic. It'd be like breathlessly posting THESE EXHAUSTION PERKS ARE OUT OF CONTROL after they added smash hit, of all things. Incredibly niche and innocuous perk.

You have your opinions what is good or bad and what people don´t run or should run or not.

Maybe you just can acknowledge that other players may have completely different experiences in game.

Also if you are in high MMR the game changes a lot in a many ways.

I play pretty casual and started end 2019 before Pyramid Head came out. I play both sides.

This game has not changed very much in some aspects but very much in other aspects.

I am no fan of aura reading (which i see pretty often in my matches), of the ugly white endurance hits and of the less fog but brighter maps.

Back in the days you had way less perks - and very thought out perks imo. Every surv and killer had perks that complement each other and made sense for that character.

In recent years that changed a lot for the worse. Due to their release schedule they bring perks that make no real sense, destroyed old perks that also don´t make sense for the char anymore and don´t complement the original perks anymore.

Therefor they added these ugly endurance hits because DH was nerfed. DH made total sense for David. It would still be better today only that you should not be able to use it as often.

Now it seems they are getting on the more aura reading trend.

But why? This game was a dark horror game with a strong killer where you of course should hide from.

Now you have some forum people constantly crying that only chases are fun and gens are boring. And you should be in chase all the time. I don´t share this opinion.

In reality most players are not Ayrun or JRM or Grasshopper and loop the killer for eternity. Most players i see go down fast.

And so we will see more Huntresses or Nurses etc. with full aura builds stomping even more.

And people will simply use it because they know there is no distortion anymore.

  • @mysticalCat said:

I just say remove all aura perks/add ons. Every single one! There is no point- killers can see scratch marks, pools of blood and hear grunts of pain. Survivors can see the killer and when someone is in a chase and if that survivor gets downed the location of the killer that way. Auras are hand outs and ruining the game. I don’t even run the perk distortion that often but having 6 ways of seeing auras is kinda insane tbh (4perks and 2 add ons) I get there are perks survivors can run to disable scratch marks after getting injured and pools of blood, but still, get some skill instead of relying on aura perks. And guess what if survivors bring said perks you won’t have to worry about gen rushing perks

Would probably be a good idea.

If you really think about it - do you think it would be bad for the game if there was NO aura reading at all? I don´t.

1 … 9 10 11 12 13 … 75
