  • I have not played it, taking a break until the birthday event as I know every match at present will be the new killer….

But watched a lot of friends streaming and the AFK system does seem a tad overtuned and they probably need to tone it down a LOT. I get why they did it but it does seem to be penalising legit players, which is never acceptable

  • But as I already said OP, they clearly don't want Self Care to even be a thing, I am not arguing that it is weak but they wont buff it because being able to infinitely heal on demand without a med kit is insanely strong. They nerfed SC into oblivion for a reason

I was a big fan of running Strength in Shadows for a long time, while having to go to the basement to heal isn't ideal, in a desperate situation it is incredibly good and getting the killers aura upon finishing your heal can be very helpful too.

  • I don't think they should ban VPN's as some places like China have literally no option but using a VPN.

A better way is definitely a ping limit, as I see far too many killers very obviously abusing ping to gain advantage. There is no Legitimate reason to be on our servers (OCE) in pretty much every case, as they have servers far closer that would have much better ping.

I regularly use ExitLag to play NA servers but I ONLY play survivor and it puts me at a distinct disadvantage, as I get hit around corners or 10 feet through a window. So I cant greed and have to pre-drop etc. I would never play killer on NA as it would be unethical but others don't have any problem with being unethical.

@LemonMan As a Nurse main of many years, I can tell you this is absolutely false. The game registers your attack in favour of the survivors position, so the survivor will see themselves 10 feet away from you and still get hit.

@I_Cant_Loop Yep, sadly I think you're right on with that one

if a tunnel in a game ruins your days then you should take a break from the game

This isn't in line with reality at all.

When you target one person they can no longer play the game normally, it leaves people with a feeling of being personally picked on, particularly newer players who are not at all equipped to deal with this and it certainly leaves them with a very negative feeling towards DBD. Often tunnellers do pick the weakest link too, which I feel is particularly cowardly.

Now if I got tunnelled by a Bubba, it would make my day but that isn't everyone's experience and for many people it completely ruins their experience and just leaves them feeling bad.

To deny this is not only unrealistic, it also shows a completely lack of empathy for other people and I am not at all okay with that in any game.

  • Being able to heal anywhere on demand is incredibly strong in this game, so it was rightfully nerfed and I think they would rather it wasn't in the game. However it is so they nerfed it into the ground so it is no longer a problem, a common theme with problems in this game lol (Skull Merchant is a great example of the nerf it out of existence quick fix).

  • I am seeing a lot of D tier content creators starting to push more and more toxic play styles like hard tunnelling every match, because… reasons.

So I say hopefully they keep doing this, as it will force BHVR's hand just like the slugging and bleed out epidemic forced them to finally add an abandon option (at least in part).

I am an accelerationist, sometimes things have to get worse to get better.

  • Well… I did predict this. I have not played it yet as I hate new killers coming out as it means I have to verse them back to back until the novelty wears off.

But I have said it before and will say it again; you cant make people play matches they don't want to be in. Even worse is if the system actually penalises people not doing anything wrong lol.

I get that they wanted to solve the reason for the go next epidemic but this isn't it.

Or having to play the same killer for 50 matches, like having to play 30 Springtraps in 32 matches, a killer which desperately needs a nerf by the way. He has too much map control and with the perk that reduces his terror radius it is a major pain in the butt to deal with him, and he just seems so fast too.

I generally stop playing on release of new killers, as getting the same killer over and over and over starts to get really tedious. I dislike getting the same killer on any day but when a new DLC drops the problem is infinitely worse

  • Ah thank goodness it is back to normal, shows how used I am to dark mode now lol

  • This is the main reason I burn out these days, I just keep getting killers I hate (all recent killers) back to back and there is no way I can avoid them. I am expected to play matches I don't want to be in so the best solution is to just not play.

  • OMG I am not used to bright white anymore, I have everything in dark mode so this is like a vampire being thrown in direct sunlight. Make it stop, pleeeeease

There will be those of us not playing springtrap, assuming we can be bothered to even play the game with 30min queues (probably not). I feel like there should be some kind of priority for those not playing the new killer for the first 2 weeks or so tbh. It would surely help alleviate the initial "i only play against this killer" complaints and help killer variety during patches.

Yeah you may be but the majority of games are going to be the same killer, as always happens with new DLC. This one is likely to be really popular too, so it is probably going to be worse than others.

I will definitely check the killer out as I didn't bother with the PTB but I think I will just take a break until the hype dies down

  • I have to be honest, I am REALLY not looking forward to this but I never like new killers coming out.

Simply because I know the next weeks (or months in the case of killers like Wesker were) will be just the same killer, match after match, back to back, day after day… I will be interested to see how the go next prevention works, or doesn't work.

I have never been a fan of FNAF either, so this chapter is meaningless to me personally.

  • I am glad to read this seems to have made Chucky less popular tbh, I absolutely hate this killer and I am sure I am not alone in that.

Either way, what killer do I play less now? ALL of them lol, I pretty much stopped playing killer altogether as is stresses me out so I figured why do it if I don't really have fun?

But if I do play I still prefer the older killers and while I did 100% this game at one point, I stopped playing the over complicated killers that feel like work to play

  • I rarely ever bring map offerings and if I do it is pretty much always MacMillan or Autohaven offerings, usually because I am sick of getting maps I dislike and I like these realms as I feel they are fun to play and relatively neutral.

I can honestly say, I have never once burned an Eyrie or Withered Isle (Garden of Joy) offering. I may have used Meat Plant years ago but I don't recall but either way if I did it was many years ago.

I have always disliked map offerings for obvious reasons

True they should give her something like blindness effect when she is charging blink long ago before weskers perk got nerfed because it was op with star struck and keep her power as m1 to use more perks( exposed ones) and not just slowdown and gen regression, without aura perks the wallhacking with her would be gone but now is late.

As a former Nurse main from 2019 - around 23, I see auras as the biggest problem with Nurse at present. It takes away all skill and knowledge requirements and makes her brainlessly easy and this is obviously the last thing Nurse should have.

I love Nurse and don't want her power to be fundamentally changed but I stopped playing her as winning pretty much every game gets boring and feels kind of lame. Giving her auras almost all match is just plain unfair imo

  • @Nazzzak said:

We'll Make It is a good one

I still use this perk frequently to this day, as being able to get team mates healed super fast and back into the match is so strong. If you know you know but I think this perk is still way under appreciated

  • They will never stop this because FOMO works and the crazy thing is, this is an entirely optional pressure people choose to put on themselves.

Look, I like some cosmetics as much as the next guy but ultimately they don't make a game better and your experience wont change if you don't buy them. The money is better in your pocket in the long run.

The solution to FOMO is don't buy into FOMO

  • Only voice lines I like are Nic Cave, simply because his inclusion in the game is almost a meme in itself. So it makes sense he would have absolutely ridiculous and OTT voice lines.

However in generally I am not a big fan of adding voice lines to a game like this, as they quickly become repetitive and annoying and ultimately I just want to mute them.

  • They do play their own game though definitely not all of them do from what I can tell. Plus, you likely would not know in game because I would say they don't advertise they are BHVR staff as can you imagine how that would go in this game lol?

I think some are decent but the community definitely has people who play this game far more than they do. I guess that is one reason they use guys like Hens with his 13k hours to consult, as I doubt any of the devs have 13k hours in their own game.

  • Nurse has had many nerfs over the years, as a Nurse main I mostly agreed with them though I admit I was not a fan of adding charges to her blinks but as it turned out that is fine.

I think the most BS thing that still exists on Nurse is full Aura builds, they take all skill and knowledge out of the equation and make Nurse a complete no brainer.

I would not be against her being the same as Matchbox by default too, it is still super strong but definitely makes her less oppressive. But even then, only a tiny fraction of the Nurses I verse are actual God tier, most are average to outright bad. It is just that survivors are even worse

Very interesting General, not a common sentiment I suspect.

Well, my dear friend, that sure is true.

I wasn't here for Wesker's initial release, I thought the game was in a bad state back then and I had been playing other games. And when I got back and played against him I was extremely confused as to why people seemed to like him, when in my opinion he is almost as unfun as Old Legion.

I was really surprised when I learned he isn't hated by the community in general. But I sure hate him, very much. Any other killer in the game is better to go against than he is.

    Totally fair good sir.

It probably didn't help that if you came back around his release, it was very much in the midst of the awful Call of Brine/Eruption gen kicking meta - probably one of the most infuriating times for me in recent memory. I actually quit the game for months around this time until they nerfed Eruption and COB and Wesker was right in the middle of that.

You actually reminded me of this and I think it may also be part of why I reflexively recoil at hearing Wesker's music lol

  • @GeneralV said:

    Wesker.

I genuinely loathe that killer and wish he had never been added to the game. Seeing him once is enough to make me want to stop playing for the day.

Very interesting General, not a common sentiment I suspect. I do have an aversion to Wesker when I hear his music it makes me reflexively cringe, simply because when he came out I faced nothing but Wesker for months on end to the point just hearing his music filled me with dread lol.

    • Twins and Trickster... I don't care if they are considered strong or weak, I just know I never have fun with them.

Yeah I have to say these two are definitely in my top few killers I despise and realised I have pretty much never had a good match against (a new Trickster can be bearable since his power is ass).

Twins slug, camp the slug, slug and camp and slug play style is miserable but the best way to play her, as for Trickster, I just hate his entire aesthetic and the knife spam makes me want to rage. Not strong, just extremely irritating.

  • Yeah first response summed it up, the ratings sadly mean nothing and they clearly wanted to move away from rank meaning anything. Hidden MMR is the new ranking system and ranks are only a reward for playing.

I actually miss the old ranking system and have never been a fan of MMR, in OCE where I am, MMR is effectively meaningless most of the time anyway. As the player base is not big enough compared to EU/NA where there is a big enough pool of players for matchmaking to be fairly accurate.

  • Vader would absolutely fit in DBD, as many others have said, the idea of it being a strictly horror game has long since been abandoned. When you have Nic Cave, Mr Puddles and bunny Legion…. yeah, say no more.

Vader is an iconic and rather imposing figure who definitely could play the killer role imo.

  • I am a PC player but I will add that I tried playing with my X Box PC controller I use for very specific games where a controller is better… and man, I honestly wonder how people play with a controller.

If I was on console and had the option to plug in KB/Mouse then I absolutely would be doing it. I think it is a definite advantage of PC, if you can get a constant 120FPS and use KB/Mouse on your console, you pretty much eliminate all the disadvantages right away imo

  • One thing that blows my mind, is how I have had cheaters flying under, around and outside the map and EAC doesn't see any issue with this. I think most of us have experienced the Nurse cheat where they hook you before you can even move… but the anti cheat doesn't see a problem with a match that ends in under 10 seconds lol.

As far as reporting, well they do ask a lot as far as wanting you to upload videos then provide links etc. I have never done this but I have reported cheaters in game and they have been banned. At least I assume so from the notifications I have got but they are of course very vague.

  • It's a difficult one as the obvious issue is, it punishes the weaker killers for tunnelling but Nurse and Blight will take eat the stun and immediately down you again if you didn't manage to go down again in a good spot.

It is probably no coincidence some of the worst tunnellers I see are Blights in particular, far more than Nurses

  • It falls into that category of a perk you only ever use in Chaos Shuffle when you have no choice lol.

I think that is fine too, not every perk needs to be strong or meta, as there are far too many perks in the game as it is.

  • Do gens. The best thing you can do is do gens and let them camp, otherwise trade hooks with the hooked survivor.

I hate that people play like this but I see so many random team mates rewarding this by hanging around hook and not saving or doing gens.

  • I like it in some ways as a survivor main, as it means extremely tedious full slowdown builds on S tier killers etc. On the negative side, it means tunnelling hard is on the menu for some, since chances of full anti tunnel builds are low too.

    I like Chaos though, overall.

  • Unfortunately this happens with all games as they mature and become more refined with more and more changes to streamline the experience.

I think any of us who have been playing for more than 5 years are all familiar with how janky and unfair old DBD was, yet it had a lot of soul and character that years of refining have taken out of the game. It is technically a far superior product now, though also a more processed and soulless experience too.

I honestly don't know how you fix that, I guess it is just a consequence of progress

  • I mean, they are a business and their primary goal is making money off you.

This isn't a loving relationship, it is a predatory one designed to get you addicted and direct you to the store to spend more money and as much as possible.

Not hating on BHVR for this, it is just how businesses operate.

It does suck as a customer though because things that are not directly related to bringing in revenue and ensuring retention are always (edit) NOT going to be a priority.

  • No, definitely not a fan. If I had my way, I would verse Bubba's all day every day lol.

  • Your ban will be permanent if you are still banned. Oh and they don't like you discussing bans on here either just so you know. They will almost certainly delete/lock this

  • OG DBD was so janky, broken and almost unfair to both sides with some mechanics (mostly killers), and it was glorious.

I think we would get a rude shock if we all got dropped into old DBD now, can you imagine 4x survivors all with DH on demand as soon as they get inured? Loops you can see through like old Coldwind? 7 Blink Nurse anyone?

I do think that DBD is a far more refined and polished game now, though as always happens when things become more processed/refined, some of the soul is lost in the process and DBD is no different imo.

For me though, by far the biggest issue is a lot of the newer killers are killers I find extremely unfun to verse and I miss the simpler days of more basic powers and more loop (rather than anti-loop) focused game play

  • I like 2v8 but as we learned in the last one, some killers (Legion and un-nerfed Oni) are not at all suited to 2v8 and the last thing I would want is to be ganked by a Knight and Artist together - absolutely miserable.

2v8 can be a lot of fun but killers should be very limited and I don't want it permanent as it completely ruins normal queues.

I also dislike the lack of MMR and the subtleties of chases are lost when you get double teamed by killers - this always feels bad to me (reminds me of versing Knight but worse).

  • The problem I see with longer DC penalties is that it just takes more people off the queues for longer, or it just makes them find new ways to get out of a match faster (with go next prevention incoming).

Honestly I would rather a team mate DC and leave a bot, since the bots can actually be better team mates than some randoms on solo queue lol.

  • @brewingtea said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3933115#Comment_3933115

You're never going to catch every instance of someone just wanting to get out of the match and throwing as a result. Nor should you try to do so.

However, the devs should make efforts to mitigate this, wherever possible. The self-unhooking mechanic is used way too often in bad faith. Getting rid of it was a good idea, even if there are still others way that people can throw.

Yeah, I already said that they need to take some kind of action.

However it wont work as I stated, you cannot make people have the internal will and motivation to play a match they desperately want out of. You only delay them leaving but mentally they have already left the match and at that point a bot would be better.

Unfortunately this problem isn't really fixable, you cant force people to have genuine motivation and you cant read minds to confirm with certainty that someone intentionally throws.

ill keep my fingers crossed for ya that they add way more to the next 2v8 so that hopefully you'll see less Oni and Legion. kinda wild how tame Nemesis is but Oni got a lot

Honestly don't know how Oni got past play testing in that state.

Hopefully lessons were learned but I am a bit cynical, however they have been a lot better with listening to feedback so fingers crossed Legion is gone at least.

  • Well, I will be the opposite if Legion is in the next 2v8. I will play until then and take a break during 2v8 if Legion is back and Oni is also included with no nerfs.

That being said, yeah solo is feeling rough for sure.

  • Yeah had some real major lag spikes and being teleported back a few feet every so often

  • I had a blatant cheater as a team mate in 2v8 the other day.

He was forcing us into crouched position as if we were being healed, so you cant move and even if you get slugged you don't bleed out as game thinks you're being healed. Killers cant hook you either so you're held hostage. I had to DC in the end as team mates were not doing gens either, so it just kept us who were stuck as hostages.

Good news, the next day when I logged in I got a notice of action taken. I only reported in game too and didn't upload a video etc.

  • Lmao… honestly I don't know why they change these things like colour coding. Nobody ever asked for this and it fixes a problem that does not exist.

Far bigger problems to fix than messing with the colour coding system

  • I don't want to break the rules here so apologies if I inadvertently do, it is not intentional mods! (I have to get that out of the way).

Now I used to enjoy Choy's content but then him and others started to get into this whole strategy of playing in incredibly toxic and unfun ways, in some misguided attempt to highlight their own perceived problems with the game. However what he instead ended up doing was simply adding to the cycle of toxicity that plagues the game, plus he ultimately just encouraged conduct that helped force the devs hand with slugging and others will do the same with tunnelling.

I really lost a lot of respect for certain people in the community, as they ruined countless matches for others, all in misguided and ultimately doomed to fail attempts to highlight an issue. Instead of helping their cause, they forced the devs to make changes that make things even worse for them in the long run lmao.

As a survivor main, I guess I should say thanks to these guys, as they really are accelerationists that promote changes that are self defeating and help us in the long run.

  • Well I mean, killers are pretty much just reskinning and a variation of others and mostly have been for some time. When you look at how their attacks and hitboxes actually operate it becomes clear that many are just adjustments and reskins of previous versions and this is no surprise.

The problem is, many of these convoluted designs also end up being incredibly unfun to verse as a survivor and it is no surprise to me that pretty much every killer I absolutely despise versing is from the last few years. There are only so many designs they can come up with before they have to reuse the same mechanics in disguise

  • @DragonMasterDarren said:

Knight and Skull Merchant for optimal Survivor blood-boiling

I think you will find it will be killers whose blood would be boiling, as survivors would just not play at all for the most part and your queue times would be literal hours, unless you're okay with playing against mostly bots.

    @I_Cant_Loop said:

    Bubba, of course!

Yeah Bubba is a fun killer and would be a perfect addition to 2v8 imo

  • I had no idea you had no anon on Xbox, that sucks actually.

I use it all the time these days, it just avoids weirdos getting fixated on you and stalking screenshots, reviews or anything they can comment on and making your matches miserable when they run into you.

Hopefully they add it for you guys, it saves a lot of drama and nonsense

  • I think they had to do something and it is a very difficult thing to manage, as you really can never truly determine if someone is throwing to get out of a match faster, and this is the problem…

I don't think it will really work either, as you cant make someone actively want to participate in a match they desperately want out of. If they do throw, how do you prove they are intentionally playing badly and trying to get killed etc?

It delays them getting out of a match but that is all it will do.

  • Thank you @GeneralV always a positive contributor! :)
