cool so should killers also just be able to leave whenever because “they’re not feeling it”? Everyone plays matches they don’t particularly care for due to x reason, but it’s a PvP game. That’s the nature of the beast.

This is what you people don't seem to understand, you can ask "should killers…" but the fact is, they still do leave matches they don't want to be in. I get DCing killers fairly regularly, or they throw a tantrum and go AFK if the match isn't going well for them.

The same applies for survivors but in that case you don't know what killer you will get and the matches play very differently with different killers. It is clear from the start when some survivors clearly don't want to be in a match and forcing them to stay in isn't working.

Not making a moral argument for or against, something that seems to confuse a lot of people. The fact is, you can add any mechanic you want to force people to stay in matches they don't want to be in but you cant give them the will to actively participate, so it's redundant anyway. You're just prolonging someone leaving a match they've already effectively left.

Don't know why people have such a problem with understanding what I am saying here?

First game luck offering. How lucky am I?

No one is forcing you to play DBD. Stop forcing others into matches with bots. Stop forcing others to play 3v1s. Bots are not a replacement for a player trying to play. Bots are placeholders that many killers will simply ignore over a player.

Springtrap is the new popular killer. You may be sick of seeing him but you clicked ready fully knowing the high chance of facing him.

I never said anything at all about myself leaving matches, I tried to explain why someone else may be.

    Don't straw-man me

The fact is, people do get forced into matches they don't want to play, you can get angry all you want but it is the truth. But hey, lets just keep doing the delusional thing of forcing people to stay in matches they want out of, as that will totally work, right?

  • Try hard players are not something devs can fix, it is an attitude thing more than a mechanical one that can be addressed with in game mechanics.

You cant change or influence people, so you have to find ways to accept it is what it is and find your own fun in between that, or just outright stop playing.

I used to kid myself I could influence people to change and be better/nicer… but you cant and it's pointless worrying yourself with this stuff. Just find your own 'fun'

  • As a survivor main, I don't think killers have to ever feel like they should let anyone go, even with items as they are so common in the web now and most players of some time are already obscenely item rich.

That being said, I think it is nice to verse the rare killer like you as it makes a welcome break from the sweat and tunnels etc.

Personally I love dopey survivors and ones that got screwed over by matchmaking, as they have no idea what they are doing. Baby survivors are absolutely adorable and I try to make sure they have at least one positive experience lol

does closing app at the offering screen count against you? Just curious.

    No it does not

Either way again I will say the obvious that people have repeatedly downvoted me for; you cant make people play matches they don't want to. The anti go next only slows their progress and I have not seen a single luck offering all week, pretty much only cakes for obvious reasons.

But I have seen plenty of survivors who clearly want out and just do gens in killers faces forcing them to act or go down easily or they simply DC (which is the best solution as at least you get a bot).

The biggest reason I feel demotivated in a match is the killer I am against, could be the same for that survivor?

  • Jeez I dunno man, I am just here for the BP and I get a lot of those. I would be happier if there was less tunnelling and killer sweat like they think they are in a tournament against solo queue but otherwise… meh, I honestly don't care. I have hundreds of cakes on several characters already, which is more than I could use for every match in the event and everyone generally uses a cake so BP earnings are good.

I don't know what Tryks is as I really stopped following most of their social media and announcements, I assume it is the obnoxious woman who comments in matches at present? She is irritating but again… meh, just give me the BP thank you.

I honestly miss when the game felt like a horror game, when maps were darkly lit and it didn't feel like a circus with all kinds of additions that don't really fit a horror theme. But here we are I guess, just give me the BP

Honestly, I prefer Xeno over Blight. At least the turrets are there to be a minor inconvenience before you inevitably go down because of the tail attack.

"Minor inconvenience" haha… true General, true XD

  • There are a lot of killers especially who abuse ping by using a VPN to different regions, generally survivor having higher ping isn't an advantage to them. I know as I like to play NA from OCE and as survivor I cant greed, I get hit through pallets and windows and I really have to play ultra safe.

You may be experiencing cheaters if they are consistently fast? Ping will not make survivors run faster

Here's the thing, stay with me here — Your experience isn't everyone else's experience. Congrats you're (and even myself) having a good time, but some people are having it rough.

I only play solo queue survivor and yeah, while others may be having joy of joys in this event, I have had back to back sweatlord killers and the most insane amount of hard tunnelling its beyond a joke.

Matches have been real rough to the point of being unfun, if it wasn't an anniversary with a lot of BP for every match, I honestly would sit this one out.

Others may be having a great time but many of us have been having really rough matches.

Edit to add: it sure has not felt survivor sided to me personally, that is for sure.

  • I feel constantly pressured as killer as you really have no down time, as survivor I can piss around, zone out on a gen and have some fun chases (depending on the killer) and the pressure isn't on me constantly.

Even if I win against the sweatiest most toxic survivors, it just doesn't leave me feeling good for some reason. The second I go ready as killer I get anxiety even though like most people who play killer, I win most of my matches.

It's why I rarely play killer and I didn't buy the last 2 at all since I know I will probably never play them.

    Ah yes.

"I wish they would drop the killer sided map and put on some survivor sided stuff! The real good stuff!"

I'm just kidding, but seriously autohaven and macmillan can go burn.

    Wait really?

The only map offerings I ever use as survivor were Autohaven and Macmillan as I both like the aesthetics (they remind me of the 'good old days' of DBD) and I felt they are more neutral than many other maps.

As for Forgotten Ruins, I dislike how that map plays more than caring about what side it favours and Borgo is not what I would call particularly killer or survivor sided, hell it may even lean slightly survivor sided as it is large with some decent loops and a decent main.

  • @GeneralV said:

That is a fair point, my friend!

Honestly, I don't mind getting a smaller variety of killers if those killers are the ones I like most, though unfortunately that is rarely ever the case. I have been seeing Freddy more often, which I really enjoy, but other than him, there are many killers I don't really like but are very popular (Wesker, Blight, Xeno).

Lol yes I imagine you would enjoy seeing the Fredster, rarely see him either sadly and I agree with you on Xeno and Blight, not the biggest fan though I would prefer Blight over Xeno personally!

  • Yeah I get this map far more often than the NEVER I would prefer to get it.

I wish they would drop it down the rotation big time and instead put good realms like MacMillan and Autohaven higher on the priority for rotation

  • Yeah I have been surprised what cheaters can do… it is one thing to cheat which already ruins the game.

  • Man I was thinking earlier how I have been pretty lucky as most killers have been going out of their way to not tunnel in the last few days…

Well that will teach me for thinking such positive thoughts, as tonight in my area I have had back to back hard tunnelling killers. Like not even making the slightest attempt to go for the unhooker.

I don't get why people do this, someone either DC's or the match is pretty much easy mode after tunnelling out some poor soul, so how is this even fun?

  • @GeneralV said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3955210#Comment_3955210

Surprisingly, my dear friend, I did get a reasonably good variety of killers today. Though obviously Springtrap appeared A LOT.

Yes General, I do too on most days but just after DLC release it is the same killer over and over for me for some time, it is why I stop playing when a new DLC releases.

It is more that sometimes you get the same killer back to back and I dunno about you but by the 3rd Legion in a row I start to lose motivation big time. Same thing happened with Wesker, a killer I know you are not a big fan of, after he came out I got him back to back on many days for months on end after his release.

But yes I do get Springtrap a LOT too

  • @thrawn3054 said:

    Nothing.

Same, I don't use any nonsense like that or charms etc.

It is all pointless, just give me BP or shards etc lol

  • @BorisDDAA said:

I was getting Ghoul almost every match so I switched to main mode.

I have to say, getting the same killer back to back is a big reason I end up just shutting the game and not playing again for days to weeks. New DLC is the worst for me, same killer over and over just gets so exhausting and unfun.

Unless it's Bubba, I will take Bubba all day every day

  • Yeah this is why BHVR is going to have their hand forced to take action over tunnelling, which will affect those who try to attempt to at least play in a fun way for all involved. Sometimes tactical tunnels may be needed (one gen left, one person is on DH, survivor forced you to eat BT instead of letting you chase unhooker and so on).

It is an absolutely miserable experience for the survivor who loads in and cant play the match normally, as they are relentlessly tunnelled by a killer who wants an easy match and has no empathy for others.

I say bring it on, the more of these people who play like that, the more the majority of the community (low skill/casual survivors) will force these changes to happen faster and be more severe.

Sorry to the killers who try to play 'nice' as you will suffer for this too

  • They made several maps significantly smaller and also added a lot of very unsafe pallets, plus there is a recent trend of adding loops that are weird and annoying to run (such as on Toba or Nostromo) and are effectively a big killer buff.

I think some maps definitely needed to be smaller but I do think they went a bit overboard with how many unsafe/bad loops you can get if your RNG is a bit unlucky

  • @TicTac said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3954672#Comment_3954672

That sounds good at first, but we shouldnt forget that its not like every survivor dislikes other killer.

So if many survivor dont wanna play against knight for example, every knight player will have to wait too.

I would understand if its an old Skull merchant case, but some killer have just an subjective "unfun"-marker. Some others have complicated counterplay anf if everyone dodges, they will not learn.

Like i would gladly ban every teammate with selfcare, but that is not good for the game.

Yeah nah I get that, which is where an incentive may work? I don't know, I cant claim to have any answers but I do know that making people play matches they don't want to doesn't work and trying to make them is just wasting everyone's time.

Honestly I would rather a team where we all die but we all have our hearts in the fight, over a team that is only in it to avoid a DC penalty so we're all just wasting each others time.

I just cant see how forcing people to play matches they clearly want out of will ever work

  • I have to say, I personally don't get the idea of forcing people to play matches they don't want to. Even with the new attempt at preventing go next, it still isn't really working as I can very much tell when team mates don't want to be in a match and they just creatively throw the match to get out, rather than just DC and go next.

For me the biggest reason my heart isn't in a match is the killer, I just do not want to verse a Trickster or a Knight etc. Now I can try to play for the team but my heart isn't in it, as I don't want to play these matches and making it so I am stuck in that match doesn't miraculously create motivation for me.

I wish there was a system where you got more points and shorter queues if you played against a roster of killers, as I would take less points and far longer queues to NOT have to verse certain killers, as I think the match will be better for all involved if I am not in it.

  • Its because FNAF brought in a whole new bunch of survivors who are utterly clueless. Bots aren't intentionally useless, they will still at least attempt objectives, whereas useless players cant even do that much

My point is that these massive FPS drops just didn't occur for me until recent updates. Last year I had no hitching on just a GTX 1070 at Ultra settings. Yet visually, the game looks the same to me as it did before. If this game were properly optimized, there's no way a 4060 should be getting huge FPS drops. And I see many DBD streamers with RTX 3090, RTX 4070, RTX 4080, having these massive stutters that pause the game for a second mid chase. So there's some issue on the development side that is killing performance on even powerful cards.

I don't get huge FPS drops on a 4060m though, don't get me wrong there, it more a case of moderate drops from 120 FPS locked to 100 or even 90 which isn't the end of the world but you do feel it. The other laptop I have with the 4GB 3050m is suffering because of the extremely limiting 4GB of VRAM, which results in paging to system RAM which causes the significant stuttering.

I have 7800X3D and 4090 desktop which of course runs locked at 120 FPS at 4k, though even then it does have the odd stutter because Unreal 5 (and Unreal 4) has always had a stuttering issue.

Some updates break the game for some people though and I have not been immune to this either.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3953071#Comment_3953071

A 4060 should easily be able to run the game smoothly at Ultra settings. Recent updates have introduced a performance issue.

I want a consistent locked 120 FPS with ZERO drops, it will play at ultra for sure but not consistently

  • Don't worry, they will eventually be forced to implement base kit anti tunnel measures so hold tight.

This is becoming more of a problem and I do see several D tier content creators trying to push a tunnel meta, so with influences like this it will only speed up the process, as did the 4man slug meta with the abandon feature.

It sucks at present because we are in the middle of it but they will be forced to address it sooner rather than later

  • No, it will not be playable on those specs. That is a very old mobile GPU that was not good when it came out in 2014.

I have a good PC anyway but I also have a laptop with a 3050 with 4GB of VRAM and while it will start the game and run it, the experience was awful with constant large FPS drops and stuttering that made it unbearable. I have a laptop with a 4060 as well and that plays it fine with medium settings @ 120 FPS

Your laptop is far too old and will not play any Unreal 5 based games

The thing is… I don't think many survivors know what "tunneling" is anymore. Sure, you have the people on the forums and the like who know, but I have a feeling that a lot of the people posting, "I can't stand tunneling every match!!!!!" threads aren't getting tunneled every match. "Tunneling" has become a catch-all for "killed me quicker than I would have liked."

The fact of the matter is, hard tunneling only happens in about 10% of games. Multiple content creators have verified this independently over thousands of combined games. If you pay attention to your own survivor games, I'm sure you'll notice that in most games, nobody is dead before hook 5 or 6… which by definition isn't hard tunneling. So if BHVR only goes after "hard tunneling" in their "anti-tunnel" update, I have a feeling that A LOT of survivor players are going to be upset that they didn't go further.

I disagree, I think most of us know very well what hard tunnelling is, it isn't rocket science and we all see it regularly.

As I said, sure there are delusional people who have warped ideas on what constitutes tunnelling but they aren't part of the honest conversation and I do not believe the issues being brought up are just people who don't know what hard tunnelling is.

  • Never mind banning VPN's, that is never going to work. Instead impose ping limits, particularly on playing the killers side, as that gives you a significant advantage that is very unfair and horrible to play against.

I see this very often in recent times and people are clearly abusing ping as they could be playing on servers far closer to them.

  • @TimberGoingDown said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948417#Comment_3948417

But survivors call everything tunneling. I was just accused of tunneling in my last match. The first survivor died on hook 6, and I hooked people in between all of his hooks. However, gens started getting done, and I had the chance to take him out of the game and I took it instead of going after the Meg that was trying to get my attention. "Tunneling."

Not only that, but if I've downed and hooked someone else since I've hooked you, you're fair game. I don't care if you only just got off hook because your buddies took their sweet time to unhook you.

Well sure, there are always those people who consider the most absurd things tunnelling but I think the vast majority of us know what hard tunnelling is.

I am talking about killers who the second you unhook, they return to hook and even if I try to block them and take aggro away from the survivor I unhooked, they absolutely will not hit me unless I completely block their tunnel and they have to hit me to get past but even then they will continue to target the survivor who just came off hook.

This kind of hard tunnelling is the problem, not the delusions of survivors who think they should be immune from chase for the next 5 minutes after an unhook.

    @horroricon said:

I can't speak for everyone but I can say I will stop tunneling when gen speeds slow down. Until then I will tunnel at 5 gens every single match. Look on the bright side, all those that wish to go next get exactly that by being tunneled out fast

I say keep it up, doing this will just contribute to the devs being forced to implement base kit anti tunnel measures. All the killers relying on tunnelling to win matches will be in real trouble then, as they will have to actually learn to play the game and how to pressure gens rather than rely on tunnelling (and NOED) to compensate for poor plays.

  • I am but I also started to take breaks when any new DLC gets released, as I hate versing the same killer over and over so I wait until the novelty wears off and most people have their achievements done.

I am holding off playing until the anniversary event

  • Bubba, just shame I rarely see Bubba as playing him in current DBD is pretty rough.

But I always have the most fun playing against Bubba

  • @Fix_Killers said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948079#Comment_3948079

    There is already basekit anti-tunneling.
Which Survivors abuse to bodyblock, get downed, and then mald that they are being tunneled.

Why should they get more basekit BS to abuse?
And what will happen then? Hint: Survivors will abuse it like they do basekit BT, then mald that they are still being tunneled.

That is a different thing though, I go extremely out of my way to not tunnel as killer and if you get unhooked in front of me I will go out of my way to let you get away. However if you force me to eat the BT hit (endgame is a bit different) then I assume you would like me to tunnel you and I have no problem with killers doing so in that case. But we all know this scenario is not what people are complaining about

    @drag27 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948079#Comment_3948079

its the survivors that force their hand with all the complaining and the threats of leaving the game if they dont get their way. This isnt on the KM's

Yes, of course they will complain about hard tunnelling and understandably so, I already implied that. Survivors have always complained about it but it does seem to be getting worse and if the majority of the player base/paying customers (survivors) is having their experience ruined consistently by hard tunnelling killers, they will complain and it will force the devs hands.

You can get bad at me but I am just the messenger here; killers/streamers/content creators encouraging and promoting constant tunnelling will force extreme anti tunnel base kit mechanics into the game. Simple as that.

  • Well… I guess the more they do this, the more the community will complain and the faster BHVR will have to implement base kit anti tunnelling measures.

Killers are going to force their hand again, so I figure we might as well encourage speeding up that process.

  • Yeah this was one of the big reasons I went on (for literally YEARS) about adding a concede option.

  • Honestly my biggest hate is full gen regression builds, it is just so utterly tedious and annoying to go against. Those matches where your gen gets hit with Surge, into Pain Res then blocked with DMS or Grim etc… I find my will to keep going gets drained very fast.

I miss days of OG ruin which was annoying (and hilarious with gen tapping being the ridiculous looking workaround), where the game wasn't full of regression perks or perks that outright block your objective so you're left standing around doing nothing.

There are plenty of annoying perks but a full gen control build is misery to me.

I'm mostly a Survivor main for the challenge, but when I was helping my uncle with his house in Alaska, I had to set up temporary internet service since we were only going to be there for a month. I used a mobile-based provider that allowed me to choose from major cellular networks, though options were limited in Cordova. The first network I tried kept randomly cutting out, while the second one was more stable I occasionally hit 600ms ping spikes. That said, those were only at select moments.

My friend and I wanted to play the 2v8 mode together, and I didn’t hear anyone complain about high ping. That’s why I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. Just because latency might show up high at the moment you check, that doesn't necessarily mean the whole match was affected the same way.

Trust me, it sucks getting pulled off a pallet I know I cleared. But it also sucks being economically displaced and made to feel like you can't play with the other 'kids' (even though most of us are adults).

Well, if you know your internet is terrible then you should have the decency to not ruin games for others by making them suffer for your problems.

However you may not have seen me make it clear the issue is really with killers who exploit ping, it isn't really a thing with survivors as it doesn't put you at an advantage, it puts you at a distinct disadvantage as you no doubt learned very quickly if you played on ping that high.

Even then, 600ms is obscene and you really should be blocked from playing anything but PVE games online, 200ms is high but 600ms is literally moon ping. Considering if I try to play on European servers from OCE (literally the other side of the planet) my ping is 340 - 360ms or so on Frankfurt

I feel like a large part of ppl not DCing in 2v8 is because its not around long enough to get sick of it. That being said, this past 2v8, I saw essentially entire lobbies DC the moment they saw deep wound bars one after another telling them it was a legion, lol.

Yeah okay the last one wasn't a great example for that exact reason but yeah, maybe you're right there. Novelty being part of the appeal

  • @joeyspeehole said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/448439/can-we-just-make-vpning-a-bannable-offense-already

What if the player doesn't live in an urban area and only has access to high-latency connections like cellular or satellite internet?

Not everyone is intentionally trying to exploit lag, some just don't have better options. It's a tough situation, and yeah, high ping ruins the experience, but blanket bans might hurt people who are just doing their best to play.

Then hard luck, don't play PVP games like DBD where your bad internet ruins the experience for EVERYONE else who has to put up with the consequences of YOUR bad internet.

Sucks to be you in that case but this should not be made the problem of everyone else. As I have already said, you can still play plenty of Co-op or similar games, or play survivor even as this puts the disadvantage (mostly) on you.

Playing killer while knowing you have bad/high latency internet is completely immoral and unfair and should not be permitted

  • They made it not a problem with nerfs but SC would be a big problem if it was buffed at all, as I said, the ability to infinitely heal on demand at any place on the map is a problem and clearly the devs knew this.

Not sure why I have to keep repeating this?

They will not buff this as it is too strong and starts to put the current highly nerfed state of medkits into question. People can get mad but they best not hold their breath expecting this will be buffed (it wont be).

But you do know that the game is banned in China and therefore shouldn't be playing it, right? There's a reason why they shouldn't be using VPNs, and I'm sorry, but why do the rest of us have to pay the price? It's not like you get one or two a day; there are many, not counting those who do have servers nearby but don't use them, preferring to be 300ms killers and give fake hits to win... So... basically the VPN should be banned.

I am not about making legal arguments for those people in places where the game is banned, however they have servers far closer to them and again, they are playing on your servers (and mine) to exploit ping, at least in part.

A ping limit would eliminate that and force them to actually play on Asian servers, which I suspect they dislike as they are super sweaty in my experience.

I think the worst time to play survivor was during the eruption meta. If you were playing Solo Q there was virtually no way to avoid the incapacitation penalty unless you knew exactly when the survivor in chase was about to go down. Not being allowed to play the game for 20s+ was completely miserable

Actually yeah, though were are still in a very similar environment, the Eruption/COB gen kick meta was absolute misery and I actually quit the game for a few months until they sorted that out. But fair point, that was a uniquely terrible low for survivors lol

I love how you absolutely said nothing anywhere related to my point and disagreed with me somehow.

Except I did, as killer hits take priority (as I said) so if you have bad ping it puts you at an advantage. It didn't need any long winded explanation, the survivor will see a hit that is nowhere near but because killer takes priority they still get downed.

You may have overlooked that crucial part of my response.

How are bots such a terrible addition?

It's better to have at least something after a DC, instead of just one less player, is it not?

Yeah I feel like bots get underused because people find ways to avoid the penalty for DCing.

I think we have all played matches where a team mate DC'd and the bot that replaced them was more useful than the survivor who DC'd lol

  • Interesting thoughts General and yes I do agree overall, I think this is probably the hardest time to play survivor in my experience (I also remember the horrors of OG Legion lol). Even though we have more information than ever by default, matches are harder and sometimes can feel hopeless right from the start.

For me the primary reason I may not be into a match is the killer, I just do not enjoy a lot of the killers in the last couple of years and as you say, it can feel somewhat hopeless early on in a match in ways that you probably could have got through years ago.

Either way, I do think the real solution probably is more in the WHY people go next so often, rather than trying to force people to play matches they don't want to be in, as I don't think that will work.

Final thing I have to add, anyone notice how few people DC/go next in 2v8? The answer to how to reduce it lies in there somewhere I think!

Yeah, but you would punish the ones who just have a bad internet connection as well.

Just like the self unhook - because of the ones who abuse it we normal player have to take the bad consequences now because they took it away.

Sorry but if you have 300ms ping without a VPN, sucks to be you but you absolutely should not be playing PVP games online.

It is unfair to everyone else who has to play with you and your problem is then ruining the experience for countless others. You can still play coop games and many MMO's but not games like this.

Someone having bad internet should not be the problem of everyone else.

    No.

You can´t and should not punish people for a bad internet connection.

Sadly you will always have people who exploit everything that is possible - but i always (try to) think good of people.

It isn't 'bad internet' though, they are intentionally playing on servers far from their own local servers to exploit ping advantage. If they have bad internet, surely they would use a VPN like ExitLag to play on servers in their own region for the best ping?

They aren't doing this because they are abusing ping, simple as that.

  • Again OP, you can get mad at me but I am just the messenger.

The mechanic of being able to infinitely heal on demand at any place in the map is too strong and they don't want it in the game, clearly. And how this this "one of the hardest to use well" lol? You literally press M1 until you're healed, it is no harder to use than a medkit.

They don't want this in the game, so they have made it so it isn't really viable unless you bring Botany on top (which actually isn't that bad as it helps all heals a lot btw).

  • Good move, it is not a great experience for the new players coming into the game with FNAF and wonder ######### they were doing wrong lol.

I am so looking forward to the anniversary (on a break until then) but was dreading this from what I have seen streamers going through. Its a tad… aggressive lol
