  • We already have comp mode - custom games.

The only issue is that there are no game rewards like BP from these matches but most of the comp people I know mostly only play customs as public matches don't really teach them anything since the average random survivor/killer isn't very good at the game.

  • I am a survivor main though I have played a lot of killer (nearly 4k hours in DBD total) and I think the current rate is good.

The game was far too survivor sided and it was this way for years so I think the game is in a good state as far as the killer vs survivor balance goes

  • I REALLY hate Ghostface due to his break out mechanic being so broken. I have literally stood right in front of a GF at shack window at M1 striking distance, clearly stared directly at him but because he was lean stalking I could not break him out.

They do tend to take things personally too I have noticed and an unusually high number of them are quite toxic in my experience

  • Generally not these days and if it is any consolation as survivor I often find pallets are already dropped when I need them or they are pretty unsafe and easy to mind game.

As killer it really can feel like that and if you're silly enough to keep chasing the same survivor and eating pallet after pallet then your experience will be rough

As someone who also recently came back from an extended break, you’re probably in the honeymoon phase (at least I was), play for another week to two and see if you still feel this way. It’s entirely possible you do but for me personally I’ve been playing 80/20 killer recently. Survivor feels like a chore.

Oh look I I know there is some of that at play but I have been playing DBD for 5 years now and I take long breaks so I return somewhat refreshed.

But also I think my attitude has changed a lot over the years to the point I really don't care anymore whether I live or die. I play for Head On stuns, blinds, flashbangs and good chases so I don't care if I 'win' as far as escaping goes

  • Hell no, we have seen time and time again how it turns out when DC penalties are temporarily disabled - the game is close to unplayable.

I say this as someone who has rage quit a lot in the past, though my max penalty was 30 mins so I guess not as much as others.

I just play out pretty much every match now and try not to take it all too seriously, mindset is a big factor in DBD. Of course you can always go next on hook if the match is that bad.

DC penalties wont stop people going next on hook but you better believe I am going to farm you for points before you can ######### on hook

  • I honestly don't get what all the crying and bitching is about lately and I say this as a survivor main myself. I recently came back (lights out mode drew me in) and have been really enjoying DBD.

The game was so survivor sided for so long it is nice to have it feeling more balanced now, even though an asymmetrical game will NEVER be truly balanced by its inherent design.

  • Myers is one of my favourite killers to play and while I think he is otherwise fine, I have always felt the Tombstone mechanic should have been retired long go.

    @Emeal said:

Everyone can acknowledge that Myers may need a nerf,

but it should be considered independently of any adjustments made to other Killers.

Myers most definitely does NOT need a nerf! Tombstone needs to go though imo

  • I only play solo and while I definitely die more matches than I escape, I still escape fairly often and already hit rank 1 (not that it means much) playing purely solo queue. I think the game is at a good place now after years of being far too survivor sided and I say that as a person who mostly plays survivor when I do play DBD

  • You would have to completely remove the mechanic as the first option, removing 4% or Deliverance etc.

Banning people for things like this is not how you treat your players and it just results in people that are not in queues and who will simply shut down the game and play something else

  • Lot more people playing him since he got buffed, so it just increases the odds of getting the less wholesome players as Billy.

I think Billy was so hard before the people who got good with him learned humility through sheer pain lol

  • No. There is already enough gen regression making matches tedious at times, without adding even more. Just my opinion of course but I would like to see the game move more towards encouraging interaction between killer and survivor, than using brute force gen regression all the time to slow matches

  • Billy is never a killer l liked to play but he was okay to go against I guess... but now he feels pretty damn strong and in some loops you pretty much die.

i get first hits on Oni within 30-40 second of the match and I end up losing with 2 kill/2 escape games. the teams that make Oni lose are teams that actually know how to loop Oni in demon fury and gen-rush effectively while injured.

    -------

I forgot what his nerfs were from PTB:

These are ones that I remember off the top of my head

-> Demon strike pallet break increased from 1 second -> 2 seconds.

-> Survivors during demon fury no longer drop blood when injured.

-> Added restrictive turn angle when using demon dash up to 90 degrees.

-> Putting someone in dying state during Demon fury depletes 7 second of demon fury gauge // Tear-Soaked Tenuqui & Ink lion now reduce penalty of demon fury instead of increasing demon fury duration.

    Deathslinger/Spirit patch

    -Scalp Top Knot

-> Reduces the Charge speed of Demon Dash by -0.5 seconds(Was 1 second).

    ==============

My biggest problem in these nerfs is nerf #4 and Scalp Top Knot nerf. Oni as a character is suppose punish survivors rushing generator while injured and the way he does that is that he slugs people which slows down generator progression when he has surplus of orbs. Nerf #4 is designed to discourage killer from slugging which prevent him from punishing survivors when injured.

It artificially reduces his demon fury duration to 35 seconds and there is also activation time of 3 seconds, an activation time for charge(2 seconds) and cooldown for downing survivors(3 second). Adding all these mini-cooldown and you get like 30 second power-up. 30 second is too short for Oni to slug at base-kit.

The change actively punishes the killer for being successful at using the ability with only way to mitigate the problem with Lion fang add-on.

The second change that I disagree with is Scalp Top Knot. With 90 degree turning angle, the activation time of the charge is too high for his 90 degree turning angle. Chucky in comparison has 1 second charge time for his Slice & Dice. This changes forces Oni to use a specific turning angle exploit to have relevant chase potencial in demon fury vs stronger looper's. Dead angling Oni demon fury is unfun mechanic because there is no counter-play for Oni to get a hit other than not using the ability. advanced killer tricks should be optional, not mandatory to be relevant. If there is insist on removing the killer trick then at least buff Oni's base demon fury charge to 1.5 seconds. Oni should be scary strong in the chase, not be a worse version of chucky and blight's ability.

Fair enough, honestly I am not that invested in Oni either way tbh. I don't really enjoy playing him and I do not particularly enjoy going against him (but I would take Oni over certain other killers).

I just don't want to see him buffed that is for sure, I only play solo queue and it is rare that Oni doesn't destroy my random solo team.

  • Over the years I have been playing DBD on and off (since Jan 2019) I have seen the player base go up and down but it always seems to end up settling at around 30-35k players on Steam. I think its because it tends to lose old players at a similar rate that it gains new players.

Specific chapters will bring in fans of that IP, some will stay but most seem to leave but they get replaced with the next lot of noobs.

I see a few familiar names in queue on the occasions I return to play a bit but most of the players around when I started left DBD long ago

  • I feel like Oni is still very strong and he really only gets hard countered when you get a good team who can deny him his first hit for as long as possible. He destroys most public lobbies

the hatch mechanic doesn't force you to slug for a 4k. if you came to this conclusion after 4k hours, you're literally just incorrect. you can get 4ks without slugging. if you have to slug to get 4ks, you're just not as good as you think you are. sorry. very rarely in the forums do you see objectively incorrect things because it's a bunch of subjectivity in here, but what you've said is literally objectively incorrect. if you're only getting 3ks because you feel the only way to 4k is through slugging for hatch gameplay, it is a skill issue on your part, pal.

LMAO "if you have to slug to get 4k's, you're just not as good as you think you are"

Yeah this will be my last response to you, as with a comment like that I can tell that I am not dealing with someone who understands the game very well.

However for my last response I would like to inform you that the hatch is part of a common game mechanic known as 'RNG' - that results in the killer has no control over the hatch spawn. However what they can do is to prevent survivors having mobility to search for the hatch and the way to achieve this is to slug them.

The fact I have to explain this shows I am wasting my time replying to you champ.

    forced??? lol

if you played mostly survivor and your take is hatch is a mechanic that FORCES killer to slug for the 4k then idek what to tell you. maybe play the game a bit more first and come back to me?

Well I have nearly 4k hours in DBD but I guess I need to play more, right?

If a killer wants a 4k, the hatch mechanic FORCES them to slug for a 4k. Personally I can't be bothered doing that when I play killer but many do bother and I cant blame them as the hatch mechanic is the reason they do this.

  • All I am going to say is that tunnelling is one of the big reasons I stopped playing DBD overall.

I hate tunnelling and I do not tunnel when I play killer because it ruins the game for me, so I wont subject others to that either.

  • @aerie said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3646918#Comment_3646918

well, it's not for killers, is it? it's for survivors. it's like asking "why add a killer fov slider??? this doesn't help the survivors..." not everything has to benefit both sides. things can just be benefitting one thing or the other. and that's okay, as long as both sides get these benefits crumbs once in a while.

But it comes with a massive downside for survivors - the forced slugging for a 4k. I am not a big fan of participation trophy mechanics and that is really what the hatch is. The vast majority of my hours in game is as survivor too btw

  • I have been saying for years that I hate the hatch as it forces slugging for the 4k if killers don't want anyone to escape. I cant be bothered doing this as killer, unless they were a particularly unpleasant team to deal with but plenty do like you waste your time by slugging you to get the last person. There is no benefit at all to killers for the hatch mechanic

  • I think both sides are pretty rough at start, though killer is probably harder until you at least get basic controls then you will be destroying survivors with similar experience in no time. I think survivor may be easy for the first few matches on a literally brand new account but you will be in the deep end fairly fast.

I have always felt that killer is more stressful but easier and you win more of your matches but survivor is far more chill though actually harder to get really good at. A moderately decent killer will destroy most public lobbies imo

  • I was very bored of DBD so had not been playing for ages but came back to try this mode. While it has issues overall I have really enjoyed it. The only thing ruining it for me is the tunnelling since there are no perks to help mitigate that, plus I feel killers like Slinger are a bit BS in this mode as there isn't much you can do once you see them as its already too late to avoid being hit.

Overall though, I welcome anything that shakes up the stagnation I felt with DBD

  • In the many years I have been playing DBD on and off, it has become apparent to me that DBD has one of the most toxic communities in gaming and it has a reputation for having a really toxic community. I have met some of the nicest people in gaming too, so that is worth mentioning.

But some of the worst people I have ever encountered have been in DBD and I think more should be done to get rid of these types in DBD (we all know the types I mean) as they ruin the fun for others for no other reason than being obnoxious

  • It's completely optional though, so I don't get why anyone would play it if they find it that bad. I personally really enjoy it even if it is far from perfect. I had stopped playing DBD and only came back for this as at least it isn't the same old stale game imo

  • Fun is subjective and while I do think some killers can feel a bit difficult or 'unfun', overall I have loved the shake up this game mode has added.

I haven't really played DBD since before the Alien chapter came out as I became bored and the game was feeling very stale for me personally. However this game mode made me decide to fire up DBD again and I have very much enjoyed it, with maybe a few sucky matches that would have sucked no matter what as the killer was 'one of those' kinds of players.

  • M1 killer is pretty rough with MFT and Buckle Up/FTP etc all being strong with SWF's at present.

This map was rough for M1 killers before this and especially Clown whose counter includes pre-dropping, which isn't much of an issue for survivors on this map.

I don't understand why BHVR made Buckle Up so strong and I feel that not every perk should actually be strong

  • Free killer that comes with the game, it is the same with Huntress who seems to have a high number of camping tunnelling people playing them.

Newer killers often will resort to anything as it is of course a struggle when you are new to DBD, so tunnelling and camping are easy ways to get hooks which makes it appealing to less skilled/experienced players.

  • All I can say is I don't know why they buffed her anyway, she was still perfectly fine against the vast majority of the DBD survivor player base who are low/med skill casuals.

The problem she has now is she destroys the average solo queue team with very little effort or skill. Another case of me left scratching my head at BHVR and why they decided to change something

  • Made For This combined with the new Buckle Up and For the People combo is certainly not helping. Playing a weaker M1 killer is pretty miserable at present and I know I just cant be bothered, particularly when facing an obvious SWF I would rather dodge or just play survivor

  • The big issue I have found is that even that modest speed increase will cause you to constantly drop chase at shack etc, especially with slower killers. So survivors will never have windows entity block, effectively turning loops into infinites.

The endurance status effect on top of that is definitely too much imo and it should not have this on top of the haste effect. It makes the perk a no brainer as far as being a meta sweat-lord goes

  • Meh... I think it works amazingly well at 75% anyway, so honestly making it 100% isn't going to change a hell of a lot.

  • I didn't realise the ultra rare items it originally was giving were not intended and I was loving the perk and ran it every match. Now... well it's pretty meh since I can earn more BP and buy rare items in the web anyway and I don't rate it for anything else.

Maybe they could tweak it so it still does have the possibility of spawning an ultra rare item, then it would still be a fun and worthwhile perk?

  • Definitely time to take a break, DBD is one of those games that you definitely need to take a break from at times.

  • I don't really main any killer but I mostly play Artist, Pyramid Head or Myers these days.

Used to main Nurse and have hundreds of hours on her but it gets to the point where you realise she is kinda broken and it isn't really fun having easy wins pretty much every match.

  • I tend to farm them for points in any way possible

  • I think this would be a very bad idea and BHVR are unlikely to do that.

The reason being is it makes the game far more accessible to casual survivor players and they make up the vast majority of their customers. What Windows cannot do is help casual survivors master mind games and other than on completely safe pallets, this is your way to get the upper hand.

  • BHVR balances for low skill casual survivors, not SWF's.

The majority of the DBD player base are casual low skill survivors, so it makes sense.

  • It's why I don't play half as much killer as I do survivor.

Sure, I win most of my killer games as I think most of us do but the process of getting that win is often frustrating and feels more like work than fun. Dealing with toxic survivors can put me off even touching killer for weeks afterwards and I think if you are like me then probably just play survivor.

I tend to get to Iri 1 for my points at reset and do challenges etc but I play survivor mostly

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/385507/would-you-play-random-perk-mode-if-devs-added-it

i don't know about a mode but they should definitely put a perk randomizer into the game, maybe for a bloodpoint incentive, no clue why it's not in main game yet esp since they already have proven they can put randomizers in the game (during anniversary event).

Oh yeah I should clarify, I don't think a mode would work but I am definitely keen on an option to randomise perks

  • It can be annoying but if someone doesn't want to play a match, forcing them to stay in it isn't going to work and I think it could harm the game long term.

  • Hell yes I would, I have already suggested it.

I like running random perks, it helps keep things interesting and I enjoy how my play style adapts to the perk loadout I end up with.

It would be so easy to implement too

  • Wait, COD got Minaj? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

God, you can't make this stuff up sometimes lmao

  • Hell no, it's an essential part of chases

  • She is now brainless to get wins on, since I notice most solo queue players don't grab a tape straight away and appear clueless against her. If you want cheap easy wins with no skill as Hens displayed then sure, she is probably a dream come true.

I played her a lot before the buff (never did condemned once) and I thought she was just fine since not all killers should be S tier. I won most matches with her and have no idea why BHVR thought she needed such a dramatic buff

hot take the legion is not that bad UNLESS they run sloppy

Sloppy doesn't even work on Legion other than normal M1's, so it's not good on Legion.

Thana is much more effective and I see it a lot but what I really hate about Legion is mending and the fact he gets cheap hits you can avoid for the most part.

But the mending is so annoying and so boring.

  • Skull Merchant is an obvious one but I have to say I audibly groan to myself when I see a Legion or Plague... not a big fan of Alc Ring Blight either.

  • I think its hilarious but after the achievement I stopped using it as its more a meme.

However what I am using constantly is Dramaturgy - in the last couple of hours I have got 2x purple flashlights and a couple of Commodious with other less exciting stuff like a green key etc.

But if you love your items, Dramaturgy is a fun perk as its a gamble too

  • Bruh... he has no setup time at all so I suspect you're not playing him right. Just do your normal map rotation and set up his boogers at gens as you pass them, making sure they are facing a good direction so you don't get confused when you view the camera (something I did at first as I just spammed them wherever).

I think this killer is far more oppressive and strong than many realise, he is just quite exhausting to play so I don't tend to bother much personally. I think setting up like Trapper or Hag is not the right way to go about it

  • PC but I have an Epic account I never use anymore now.

I have crossplay on as I want fast matchmaking with whoever is on, don't care if our 'MMR' is close tbh
