Running four aura reading perks is the only way how you can push through Distortion right now, without that it regenerates so fast that any aura reading perk is dead meat in your loadout. Its part of the ongoing meta evolution. But in the end of the day, a successful aura reading is JUST info. Info that can get you killed, for sure, but aura reading doesn't help the killer to actually get any downs (if you rule out edge cases like Pyramid Head getting a cheeky hit through a wall because they literally saw you).
One common counter to aura reading is using Object of Obsession: if the killer sees you, you also see the killer, and it trivialised looping when the killer thought they got to one-up you.
Try gearhead. It tends to chew through distortion tokens VERY quickly.
-
Usually I'd understand the annoyance... but in this case, you could say the killer just countered your perks. No deliverance into a DS if you don't get hooked.
-
This is why I try to play with at LEAST 1 teammate instead of doing solo Q. More ppl in the swf, the less likely I'll have teammates trying to kill themselves for no reason... If my normal ppl arnt on, I'll just play killer.

Yeah that's impossible. The minimum a character can be to have any piece of Legacy is Prestige 3, since you got 3 Prestige Levels for every 1 you had on the old system.
I didn't play back then, just on the system directly after that. I remembered my characters that I didn't prestige at all but lvled up aton were like prestige 5 lvl 50 once crossprogression brought em over so... I kinda figured.

But without scanning my system you can't keep from playing offline games.
For example EA can shut everything down and close their gates and I will still be able to play tiberium war via CD, just not multiplayer.
That's the difference, nowadays most games need patching and always online connection, which I meant by games as a service.
20 years ago games came out mostly finished without depending on an external server.
20 years ago had quiet afew games as a service too. All I have to do is point out any MMORPG like WoW or even Runescape. On the other end, there's plenty of games nowadays that you CAN play while disconnected from the internet. Not THAT much is different.

I don't think killers best perks would even compare to 4x survivors best perks it would pretty much just be a killer bully mode, unfortunately since its participate at your own will, almost no one would outright choose to play killer
Ruin undying wouldn't even carry the killer side because it could still just be cleansed in 2 totems with any amount of luck vs
4 dead hards (iframes) and all in every chase, 4 ds (that activate before even being hooked), 4 borrowed time (which give both players endurance), and most likely so you can't do anything about it, 4 unbreakables
So as fun as 3 health states, 4 hook states, no choice to slug, and no win hook saves wouldn't be, ill pass
Who needs to cleanse anything when you have 4 old BNPs? First 4 gens would pop instantly. The killer better be packing old moris.

I am! Proud father of 2. Maybe I should adopt you because they never giggle at my jokes and that stings a little.
I don't know what BHVR can do to stop people from giving up on the hook. I don't think penalizing survivors is the answer because they're not addressing anything. And who knows what reasons people have for DCing or giving up on hook. Everyone has at least one reason as to why they'd leave. I have one. Mine is that I don't like games that last a long time. 30 minute games? Yeah, that's 2018. I don't think so in 2024. Guess what I faced the second night I came back and my friends purposely 3-genned us so I could see what would happen. First time I ever faced a Skull Merchant, and I want it to be the last. The funny thing is that when I tried her to get my achievements, she seemed fine. Right as rain. But holy ######### she's ######### annoying to vs. It's like going against knockout Freddy from 2017. Yeah, we could win, but do I want to invest that much time when it will just be a slog of an experience? It's faster to just go next. I'm not mad about it. I just don't want to bother. Now, I know this isn't the same thing because whatever I do, my group has to agree with. I feel for solo queue because they don't have the luxury of communicating anything mid-match.
I'd like BHVR to try to figure out what people find unfun, and at the very least, be open for discussion. It's one of the things I get on BHVR about because they really do just the bare minimum to satiate the unruly, and because their presence is so minor, it gives off the "they don't care" vibe— even if untrue. Maybe have a popup window that asks why players DCd or gave up on hook with easy to crunch multiple choice questions. Do they still do surveys? How about asking what people find disappointing about the game and expand on it. Make the focus about giving up. However, they gather that data, they should then talk about it. Let the customers know how the devs feel and what they're going to do and not do. How do you solve the problem without first asking questions? They're not doing that and I find that pretty sad. It's like the most basic thing. Meanwhile, there are players that want to put the blame for their problems on something, and so we have what we have now — us vs them — because there's not enough open dialogue between BHVR and its community. Maybe they have data that shows that the DC or dying-on-hook is a very trivial problem. Maybe they don't want to admit to the problem because it will show flaws in their pie chart. Maybe they don't want to highlight a negative and make it worse. Who knows, but they should at least give something a go.
I'll give an example of one thing (not related to giving up on hook) that BHVR can do that could show they're listening. Killers complain all the time about survivors waiting at the gate until the very last second. Why is this still a thing? That dracula iri that does the hellfire plumes is really freaking cool. Why not have that as a brown addon for ALL killers that activates after a certain time. Maybe another brown addon that adds permanent bloodwarden after a certain time. Of course certain conditions have to be met before these activate, but I know they can work around that if they really thought about it. Or how about this- staying at the exit gate drains their BP and transfers it to a vial that the killer receives post-match. There's so much they can do and it's a shame they're so preoccupied doing other, money-making things. Business is business, but man, I think they're a little out of touch.
Imagine a brown addon that gives a 10 second bloodwarden effect for the last 10 seconds of EGC, specifically to screw with ppl who stand there til last second.

This is an argument.
"Y'all will scrape for any excuse to cry the game is dead", isn't, when the OP clearly didn't say that. It's not black and white.
I get that the killer wait time is fine, but to be fair, they loosen region and MMR restrictions to get it that way. Nobody I currently play with has less than 5k hours. We're going against sub 300 hour killers from Asia, in the off hours when killer bonuses are in effect. We have to make up rules to keep it fair and fun. The other times are players that really push us to try so I can imagine what that would do to a solo queue lobby.
You're right about the game being worse before. That was the beginning of 2017, killer— all the way. The game almost died. It's nowhere near that, but here's my mountain— the situation seems to have flipped roles to solo queue survivor. Maybe that's a mole hill out of a dirt clod, but I think you get the sediment.
Are you a dad? I don't know what's worse... the dirt related dad jokes, or the fact it got a giggle out of me. From my experience, the biggest thing plaguing solo queue right now is their teammates trying to kill themselves on first hook. In my matches tonight, played as a 2 man SWF and I'd say it was like half my matches where someone is giving up a hookstate before we have a chance to rescue.
I like running a complete loadout of aura reading perks, so MOST matches… I have an idea of what's going on. Most of the wasted hookstates though are completely unprompted. Kindred+open handed shows me the killer left...

He's not "Y'all will scrape for any excuse to cry the game is dead."-ing. That's why I asked that because I think that's an extreme take, and it tries to invalidate the guy's concern. And I find it to be a curious, but grayish truth, at least since I came back from my break. I do get killer bonuses late at night, but it doesn't last as long as it did before— and this is after 2v8 and before DLC. Player burnout and wigglywomp pre-dlc drop nonsense? I don't know, but it's a funny coincidence nonetheless. It's only made worse lately because people want to play the dracula killer so as always, time will tell. But I already know that DBD isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
OP may have a pessimistic outlook based on his observation, but obviously he likes the game and wants it to do well. I think these posts are good for BHVR to see. He's not being a dick about it and is letting people know his view on the state of the game. It gives people a topic to stand with or argue against, and at the very least it can give BHVR a better view of morale on the forum front. But to try to dismiss it as a nothing burger? Please.
It might not be a nothing burger, but it's still making a mountain out of a mole hill. Even if the BP incentive is in place on survivor, the killer wait time is still fine. I could see cause to worry if we had extensive 10+ minute waits... but we don't. There's room for improvement for sure, but let's be real... the game has seen worse.

Them having permanent wall hacks is annoying because they can’t be mind gamed at loops at all. It would be cool to have settings to permanently reveal their auras so I could just practice snipes and orbitals without having to activate perks and stuff.
Just reminds me of the Nurse bots during 2v8. It can be tricky to try to make bots behave like actual people instead of doing things like breaking Ghostface out of stealth the moment 1 pixel is revealed.

For me tombstone is one of his main points with the mirror addons. Nobody really plays Myers without either of those addons.
I would prefer when they kept the undetectable in tier two or just gave tier one faster movement speed or both.
If ANY addon in this game is the only appeal to a killer, that should be an obvious sign of a problem. As someone who plays Myers and doesn't touch those addons... I can also say you're wrong in thinking no one plays Myers using his other addons.
-
@Langweilig said:
I think one and two would be fine. 3 Why? What‘s the point of that? 4: Definitely. 5 and 6 Simply no. It‘s the main point of Myers.
I personally hope they don‘t rework him, but they can add some stuff to its current version and buff it. I personally would like to get 4.7 m/s by reaching tier 2 or 3. Maybe they should add another tier for that before tier 3.
Individual addons are definitely NOT the main point of Myers. Number 3 I understand in that Tier 1 is good for stealth play. Being able to swap back and forth would allow me to play stealthy builds without using perks like monitor.

If you think the endgame chat is bad, you should've heard old COD lobbies. If DBD endgame chat should get the FBI sicked on someone, COD lobbies should be straight to the electric chair.

Dredge and Trapper seem to shine on typically bad killer maps. Glad you're enjoying the lil Entity pup lol
It's a weird feeling. I don't know what map offerings I should dislike yet. I'm having alot of fun as him though.

@Seraphor said:
Midwich is by far their best map. RPD and Gideon are also fairly good.
Ironically though I find Lery's and Hawkins to be quite tricky, they tend to have lockers all clustered in the middle or in awkward places. So it's not a case of it being 'all the indoor maps'.
Generally any outdoor map is "bad" but some are better than others. The better ones probably being Dead Dawg, Haddonfield, Nostromo and Dvarka.
Swamp and the original three realms are definitely the worst. I had a game on a MacMillan map the other day where they had a 3 gen where each gen was at least 20m away from the nearest locker. All they had to do was prerun when they saw me coming and I couldn't pressure them at all.
I'm getting surprised by how many maps work for him. I'm so use to groaning in annoyance when someone puts up an RPD map offering. I've actually been having good matches in Hawkins. The gens that NORMALLY are hard to pressure are easy as him.

Correct. I had poor wording.
My point was if the killer leaves this way, we get a Bot killer. BHVR can't program bot killers. Even so, if a Survivor DC's, they become a bot and the game can continue with much less impact than if the killer left.
Hook suicide is far worse than DC'ing imo. The game can still be won by survivors since the bot is usually better anyway. But hook'icides prevent that and the game is typically a loss survivor side.
In other words, A killer needs a way to hook'icide, not a DC button. That's the difference Im trying to make here. It's not fair survivors can hookicide and have no consequences while Killers are made to remain and endure.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3789184#Comment_3789184
This is the basis of my thoughts. Adding buttons to do things we all agree is unhealthy for the game isn't the right direction. And from what I've garnered reading this thread, we do pretty much all agree Hook'icides need to go.
Funny thing... BHVR HAD bot killers with the 2v8 event.

I feel like this with all but 2-3 killers, you need to find which killer works for you or if you're sick of chasing/ looping just play nurse she's ez to get the hang of after a few days and you're guaranteed a 1-2k atleast. Or play skull merchant and you'll get a free 4k because everyone will give up instantly because of how boring and awful her gameplay is.
I second this...
There's alot of different killers with different abilities. I enjoy rotating amongst them. Especially with some of the buffs theyve been giving to some killers, its worth rechecking out. Ive been playing Dredge last night/this morning and am having a blast. SOME of em are so uncommon that you'll stomp ppl just because they don't know how to handle it (example...Hag).

@Peanits said:
The short answer would be that it varies from one Killer to another.
The longer answer is that it typically follows a logarithmic curve where you gain rating more quickly at the beginning and that growth slows with each match played. There isn't really a definitive point where you settle. As your rating becomes more accurate and adjusts less with each match, you're also getting better with that Killer, so you'll continue to climb (albeit more slowly).
It's not quite possible to put a number on it because it can vary depending on a number of factors. A Killer that's easy to pick up and easy to master might reach that plateau sooner than others, meanwhile a Killer that's more complicated and has a lot of room to grow may take more matches to flatten out. You'll likely find yourself in the right ballpark fairly quickly (within a few days of playing them), but this is not where you'll stay. You will continue to improve and climb with practice.
My last match was a 12 hook game where MOST of the survivors were on deathhook b4 anyone died and they still only got 2 gens. This was what had got my wondering if I was maybe still just in low MMR. Didn't realize it would be afew days til it leveled out. Fortunatly MOST of the survivors have been pretty good sports about it (at least the ones on PS who I could type GG to). Thanks for the reply.

it's nothing like xeno.
they just gave xenomorph an absurd speed increasing during tail CD ON TOP of a really nasty bug (no movement speed loss at all when downing people) which they promptly reverted/fixed.
nothing of value was lost.
We never got to experience Xeno WITHOUT the bug before they nerfed him... That's the part that gets me. If his intended speed was deemed too strong, then fine... but we never got to see what that looked like.

I could see maybe bloodlust being limited to certain killers. Killers like Myers who's power really doesn't do much to win a chase once started could keep it, while killers whose power SHOULD be helping can lose it. If your getting BL on Clown, that's a YOU issue.

There’s no reason why you absolutely MUST show off your prestige in pre game lobby other than for your own ego, which is silly anyway because no one else cares. The game is now mic healthier waiting until endgame. I can see my own prestige in my own lobby before I get to the killer lobby and I can see it at the end. This has zero effect on how I feel about my achievements. In fact, I’ve actually began playing my P100 characters again now that I can do so without being targeted and tunneled out of the match.
This new system helps the overall health of the game way more. It’s also not hurting you in any way to let people see your prestige at the end. If they all leave the lobby without ever looking at your prestige, so what? Why do you need people to care so much that you have a P100?
While everything you said is right... that has nothing to do with patch 6.1.0

So just an information for those who are interested.
I got an idea this could be fixed with equalizer settings and from my testing it can be.
Bat's noice is very high pitched, way higher than normal sounds in DBD, so if you reduce everything above 5 kHz it is going to affect the bat sound a lot. I have tried it today and it was so much better.
So if you like Dark Lord and want to use Bat for chase, this might help you with it.Can't really do that on console…

SSwitching to bat form with left bumper+triggers is weird they need to seriously add D pad controls
That would be really nice. With the current setup, it's too easy to swap to the wrong form simply because the options are on different buttons depending on what form you're currently in. Splitting 3 transformations between 2 buttons doesn't feel good.
-
The transitioning is clunky and the UI for it needs to be tweaked on console. It's also odd that there's a cooldown between the transformations at all since it's essentially just swapping between powers that have their own cooldowns. Lich has 4 abilities and didn't need a cooldown for swapping between them...

NO! 😅 Though my streak was broken I finally got The Dark Lord followed by Singularity. You have to wonder if dropping fairly big overhauls for several killers at the same time you release a new killer is maybe not an ideal business strategy. Save it for the mid chapter.
I'd actually prefer this approach. Getting the same new killer 30 times in a row just causes survivors to groan. We had that alot with Wesker upon his release. On the other hand, if they give players a good reason to not only try out the new stuff, but dust off afew older characters too... that offers decent variety. Chances are, the reason you're seeing Doctor alot rather than the others simply is due to most people owning Doc while alot of ppl skipped out on buying Dredge. Likewise, Nemesis being a licensed character means you can't purchase him with shards so... ppl who didn't play him before likely didn't own him.
-
Current system is hands down better... The old system was an ever growing grind every time a new character dropped. BHVR realized this and basically future proofed things by essentially setting a fixed cap on how many lvls you'd need to burn through on each update. With the old system... you were required to go back and add lvls to every character every time a new one dropped.

The thing is, I am very convinced that people who play like that dont care if they win. I went against a Legion a few days ago who tried to slug the whole team. It was a long and tedious match with 3 escapes in the end and I guess nobody had fun in it. And the only reason why we had 3 escapes (one person bleed out) was because we were at least a 2man SWF, probably 2 2man SWF and had the last Gens basically in every corner of the map, which allowed us to work on them when not being slugged (even tho it also meant to travel long distances for a pickup..).
I asked the Legion why they play like this just to be annoying and they said that they do not care about winning or having fun anymore and just want that Survivors have a bad experience. Great.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3788266#Comment_3788266
100% this.
Knockout and Boil Over will never be good and they are only really "useful" in an unhealthy way. Knockout is a bit easier to use, because you would need a full build for Boil Over (and probably a SWF), but both Perks will never find themselves in Loadout of players who just want to have a normal game.
You kinda have to define what "normal" is here. The same could be said about survivors who go for flashlight saves for example. They clearly brought a flashlight with the intention of using it and not just staying on gens. We wouldn't define gens as "normal" and everything else is people trying to ruin fun.

Honestly, I'd press it one minute* after any kind of map offering. That's a mechanic I despise and that seems better than the alternative : making the match as unfun and punishing as possible. It would certainly be faster.
*One minute to guarantee loss of add-ons and offerings.
I mostly use brown or yellow addons on killer so...would be real tempting to waste someone's map offering.

What's the difference? (Those two factors confuse me.)
Charge time would be how long iyou have to hold the button before the fire is ready. Think of Huntress's wind up addons... For the case of Dracula, it seems counter productive since you move slower while charging, therefore you kinda don't get any benefit from the little bit of extra range the addon provides.
-
It's main hindrance isn't even countering perks, but rather hiding the gen auras. I'm less likely going to be able to harass an incomplete gen. Not sure if this affects Freddy's gen teleport or not...

But thats the difference, and its a major difference. Still, Killers should get a way to decline playing but… not like this. Definitely not like this.
The quick give up as survivor they're talking about is suicide on hook, which doesn't result in a bot.

I feel like they need to work on his transformation... it feels clunky. Doesn't help that the UI is kinda confusing. It puts the R2 option on the left hand side, so if you do a quick look... you'll probably swap to the wrong form. Vecna has more abilities and didn't have this problem because each power was consistent with up, down, left and right. The transformation however changes R2 and L2 depending on what form you currently are.

fair, I didn't see the "calling it quits" part.
The main point still stands though; in any other PVP game you stick around because "you know what you signed up for". - That's at least how I understand the mantality. So if that's a premise you don't agree with the rest is obsolete. However, given the myriad of things you could encounter at this point in dbd that is no longer the case for dbd. For all intends and purposes you don't even know what you sign up for when you Q up as SoloQ. - You only know once the match has already started. And can you really sign up for something when you don't even know what it is?
Add to that the common "I'm not responsible for your fun" thing (that's usually thrown around by someone who played killer and got a complaint from a survivor about their playstyle not being in any way fun to face) and I think we're getting close to what's going on. Sure, the killer can play whoever and however they like and they're not responsible for the other players' fun. - But the same is true for survivor.
Should people just not play then? - Probably. - But as I said: given the myriad of things you could face in a match the chances of facing exactly what you don't want to face are pretty slim. Quitting a game altogether because you might face something that makes you not want to play that match is like not driving because you might get into an accident.
All of this makes 0 sense with regards to what OP was talking about though. People are quitting the moment they load in. You can't blame the killer playstyle for this. This is basically just ppl trying to pick which killer/map they get. This is happening for EVERY Killer character, although some more than others.

culmination of bad matchmaking and cheesy mechanics that allow a killer to secure a kill that way and will scare off survivors from attempting a save because they assume they’ll just be camped too
OP is talking about ppl killing themselves as soon as the game starts and you are talking about the very end of the match after your team finished all the gens...

imo it's a symptom of the state of solo q but not the problem
solo q is not fun. the odds are stacked against you in solo q and in my exp it's mostly due to your teammates. This is due to the lack of comms and just the overall lack of trust/confidence that your teammates know what to do and when to do it or what not to do. It's cyclical and I have to think that others, just like me, just get exhausted and just say f some matches and want to go next
That would make sense if a game has progressed somewhat, but ppl are doing this basically as soon as they load in too.

Love using this on Plague. Survivors either stay injured against a speedy killer, or give you Red puke.
