SWF could not be OP if solos were UP. Sure, communication to share information and coordinate for efficiency and to achieve the same goal gives an advantage but that wouldn't matter much if the core mechanics had survivors be very weak/UP.
4 decent solos who understand the game well enough can make the killer sweat a lot and have a good chance of winning. 4 buffoons teaming up but messing up left and right won't have an easy game vs a decent killer just because they are SWF.
People not playing the objective and making questionable decisions is usually why things go downhill fast whenever I play solo. That's not a balancing issue though. Time is on the survivors side at the start of the match and tools for survival are plentiful. People just need to learn how to utilize them well.
4 survivors who have "gotten gud" are strong, SWF just enables them to utilize their strength beyond what's possible in soloQ.

The solution should be them optimizing their game, not telling people they shouldn't play something they paid for. And 2 hours on Steam isn't a very long time for a refund.
Sure, they should fix their game. The solution isn't disabling the DC penalty though.
Game breaking bugs are unfortunate and it sucks if you can't play normally. However DCing is still the players very own decision. If waiting the game out won't take any longer than the potential timeout one might have accumulated then why not wait it out instead oft DCing and not being able to play for an extended period of time?
DC penalties were desperately needed and there doesn't seem to be a huge and widespread bug causing mass-DCs and therefore undeserved timeouts to my knowledge.

5 minutes, allegedly if it was the first DC anyway.
The problem is when the 5 minutes becomes 15. Then the 15 becomes 1 hour. Then the 1 hour becomes 8 hours. Then the 8 hours becomes 24 hours.
If the game'd be that unplayablable why care? I wouldn't even play for long enough to stack DC penalties that high if I encountered massive gamebreaking bug after gamebreaking bug.
-
So run it then? That's the only way for you to guarantee an obsession.

Where did I say either of those things?
If the In-Game Report system does absolutely nothing as it sounds like is the case, then yeah, get rid of it because it's useless at best or disheartening at worst as people think they're sending in reports to stop people from cheating that doesn't do anything. Why in the hell would you have a reporting system that goes right into the trash can?
If the In-Game Report system DOES allow BHVR to look into it, why do we have to upload video proof of the cheating? BHVR should be able to look at their own game data to see. Even if they don't record the actual match, one would think that they could have basic information that would tell the story (Player A is on the hook, Player B repeatedly pushes A to take Player A off the Hook while KILLER stands six feet away and watches until Player A dies, in which then Player B skips merrily to the Hatch while the Killer stares at them). You can see with game data that Player B is working with the Killer. There is your proof.
The entire point of an In-Game Report system should be to flag BHVR to look into something. If BHVR looks into it and sees no wrong doing, problem solved, no one gets punished.
It doesn't sound to me like the report system does nothing, just that you have to put some effort in if you want things to get looked at. If you want to accuse someone of doing something wrong you bear the burden of proof, seems fair to me.
See I was just listing alternatives that are way worse than what is in place right now and honestly I don't think what you describe is a better solution.
If one just needed to press a button to get BHVR to look at things the team responsible for doing so would possibly drown in false reports with no way of discarding them. BHVRs staff would have to sift through thousands of games which were reported by players who were merely upset because they lost, didn't like the way others played, reports from inexperienced players who assume cheating by mistake and whatnot.
With the way it is now I think there's a lot less false reports by salty people or that it is at the very least easier to filter those out because I doubt that everyone who wants to get back at someone has the match recorded and/or is willing to put in the effort to go through the procedure of reporting.
It is a good compromise between having no system whatsoever and wasting manhours to analyze thousands of falsely reported games imo, even if some legitimnate reports may slip by this way.

I do really hate the cheater report system in this game.
I had a survivor who was working with the killer. At the end, the survivor gets me caught and I'm in the "struggle" phase on the hook. The survivor just sat there unhooking me (but didn't let the animation finish so he just kept hooking and unhooking me) while the killer sat there.
I'm struggling to get my phone to the camera mode so that I can record while tapping on the A button to keep myself in the game so I can report this #########. I got it recorded and had to send it to myself so I could upload the information to the site. I then had to create an all new log-in for their reporting site. I then had to give them my user information, the "cheaters" user information, and go into the settings and write out my Player ID. Overall, it took me about a half-fuqin-hour just to report one guy that may or may not ever be punished for cheating.
Like...what is even the point of having an In-Game Report System that can't see if what I'm reporting is legit? I get that they probably don't have videos of every single game recorded but how is there not some kind of game log or something that would demonstrate that this guy was cheating like this? If the In-Game Report System is that useless, then why even bother having it and making people think that their reporting is going to do anything?
So you'd rather not have a report system and anything be done about it at all? Or a system that banned players based on reports without evidence, guilty or not?

Well after reading the OP. I don't think I'd care enough to go through that same process. I feel like most people would just let cheating go on. Whose going to spend that much time reporting someone?
Fair point.
Would you care enough to post a fuming rant directed at the devs on the forums? And do you think it would change anything if you did?
Maybe the report system is flawed and has its issues, I wouldn't know as I've never filed a report. Giving feedback, providing constructice criticism is all fine and good but being this aggressive about it isn't the way to go about it imo.
-
If a cheater gets "on free foot" it is mainly because you don't want to incinvenience yourself more than anything else.
-
They are penalized by getting less emblem points + giving survivors free reign of the map to do whatever they please.

@micha_beck said:
So, question for PC players: Does this happen a lot for you? Or is this a crazy once in a month kinda situation?
I haven't seen any blatantly obvious cheating in about 500 hours of play.
I've watched a lot of streams and content on YouTube over the past 2 years. Rarely seen any cheating there. Not many topics about cheaters in the Forums either. Doesn't seem to be a huge and widespread issue to me.
-
@Duskyy said:
Wow. Thats just crazy. I hate cheaters like that. Alot of people would say its good because as they a free escape and pip. But it not fun. You want to play the game and get better. Not get carried by a cheater.
What kind of people are those? And there's a lot of them? Yikes.
-
Make it so survivors don't have multiple lives. Once you're in the hook, you're out. Now you can't get camped and tunneled, easy fix.
-
Could you make an argument as to why you think it should be?
-
Don't derank, you're not going to improve by constantly playing and winning against worse players. Playing both roles is a good way to get better at the game as you can get into the mindset of the other side. It'll also help you understand what the limitations of different killers are and how to play around their powers.
While playing as killer you may also learn a few tricks from the survivors you verse which you could try to integrate into your gameplay (and vice-versa of course).
Naturally you're not going to have easy wins against players who've played way more and are far more experienced than you are. You just gotta have to suck it up.
There should be quite a few guides on how to play either role on the internet, check them out (here on the forums, Steam forums, YouTube or whatever).
What I personally like to do is record my own gemplay and watch it back to analyze it and see if I can find things to improve on in future games. There are also a couple of content creators who accept gameplay submissions to help people improve at the game.
Forum members might also be willing to share advice though without knowing what you struggle with specifically that'd be quite hard.

I wish they would remove it from PC too, my keys hate it. Just make it automatic and if you want people to have the option to “quit,” then give them the option to hold space for 3 seconds to die
But it is not about having the option to quit , it is about fighting for another chance to stay in the game and escape the trial.
-
Does NOED prevent you from looping or hiding? Can it not be taken out of the game entirely, prematurely even? How much more counterplay is needed here?
-
Pretend to leave, then smack them when they come out.
-
Why would you start up a video game if you know you have stuff to do and therefore no time to play in the first place?
If an emergency arises you'll be busy anyways and probably won't even notice you got penalized for leaving.
Your PC is a problem? Well, that's your responsibility to take care of before playing online games.
-
Nothing wrong with the addon, IMO it's purely an RNG issue. RNG is a big part of the game and someone likely always gets cucked by it, be it killer or survivor. The game being so RNG heavy is easily one of my least favourite aspects of the game and possibly the source of a lot of frustration.

What if trapper could throw traps from range but they only deal a hit and don't trap survivors? Trapper could be 110% speed to compensate.
A Poor mans Huntress.
-
Only if camping survivors are banned too.
-
Kill 'em all before they finish repairing any gens.
-
Thanks, haven't had that happen on PC (yet) but quute frequently on PS4. Guess I'll just stick to that version if I feel the mood to play killer ever again.
Funny, I liked it.
-
Penalties aren't high at first for reasons. If you stack timeouts like crazy so you can't play for extented periods of time there's possibly an issue on your end that needs resolving or you've ragequit a bunch and deserve it.
-
Don't you mean latency?
-
Object of Obsession might be worth using over Empathy and Kindred. Can be a good way to grab the killers attention but if they don't bite you'll atleast get a lot of information from it.
-
Well Borrowed Time should be decent for making saves. We'll make it could also be good for fast heals or maybe even Autodidact.
Though I guess if your confident in your abilities your best bet might just be to take aggro and keep the killer busy as much as you can and perk up for that purpose so everyone gets ample time to do gens uncontested for as long as possible. Be the martyr and let yourself get killed if necessary to lower the risk of your wife dying.
-
I do linke DbD andplay a lot but it probably wouldn't make my top 10. It is kind of a diamond in the rough, low top 50 maybe.
-
So if survivors aren't doing gens even if they have free reign of the map for a while they lose? Astounding.
-
It all depends on what killers you like to play as aswell as how you play them. Ideally you want something to synergize with their powers (like M&A+Whispers on Pig for example) and/or perks to compliment your playstyle/cover up your weaknesses.
-
Well, new survivors should ideally only be matched against new killers so they'd be all noobs at that point. A newbie calling another one out for being bad at the game is hilarious and stupid but not really a balance issue.
New players aren't screwed for sure if they get found assuming they would've been matched against other newbies as no one really has a clue what they're doing at that point and everyone has to learn the ropes of the game eventually.
-
Title talks about the experience of new players but most if not all of these are only really annoyances for experienced players. You even mention high ranks. I am confused, what is it?
-
Don't be nice.
-
Huntress for me. Not a fan of 4.4 m/s killers in general, feels slow af. Sure they usually have very strong abilities and Huntress is no different.
I do like the idea but Hatcher hitboxes give me a headache and learning what you can and cannot throw over is just a massive PITA since everyone I go up against whenever I try to play her seems to know just fine.
Nurse is a close second to me. I've only tried her pre-nerf and blinking + fatigue made me nauseous. Her breathing and the noises she made were also really obnoxious to me while playing with headphones. I have no intention to play post-nerf Nurse, it's probably not going to be fun. Tried her once on console. Most miserable experience I had in DbD so far.

Compared to twitchy FPS games, they really don't and that was kinda the point.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1069281#Comment_1069281
And I've heard this, but I'm also looking at the follow-on effect. If DbD does it, then people will complain about other games not doing it, and like children will go "BUT THEY CAN!" then all of a sudden, the more casual console markets become flooded with M&K elitists.
I'm not saying that ALL M&K people are like this, but enough will infect the higher ranks of anything with a competitive scene.
It's just easier to have a blanket NO and be done with it.
I'd argue that playing Nurse and Huntress in particular at high levels does come close to twitchy shooters though.
If you want to argue that it doesn't matter and that there's no significant difference in using KB&M over a controller then I see no reason as to why console players can't have both.
As for the follow-on effect: There are already games supporting KB&M on consoles, I doubt DbD is going to be the game setting a precedent here.
-
@PigMainClaudette said:
This game isn't as reliant on precision aiming, unlike Overwatch or Rainbow Six: Siege, so I'm fine with Dead by Daylight being balanced the same.
As for M&K on console, Get_Flanked has put it best: Unless you have a severely limiting disability, don't use M&K on console. Leave it to PC.
It is always good to have options. Heck, I play survivor with a controller on PC, so why not have a choice on console aswell?
Killers like Huntress or Nurse do require a fair bit of precision and imo it's a huge and noticable differnce whether you play on PC with KB&M vs console with a controller.
-
I don't think balancing needs to be different, optimizing the game would already go a long way to even things out. Having it be the same game makes switching between platforms more convenient. I wouldn't want to relearn everything.
Only thing I'd like to see is KB&M support for console. I'd probably enjoy playing Killer on PS4 a lot more if that was a thing.
-
What else is a killer supposed to do?
-
Yes. Not much to say it is just an all around great perk for altruistic plays.
-
It is a decent perk imo, always has been.
Can provide good information and if survivors want to play around it they're not doing gens. Win-win in my book.
I have been running it together with Agitation to minimize downtime before the ruin nerf instead of BBQ if I fehlt no need for BP. Felt like it helped a fair bit with efficiency overall.
-
Uninstalling = voting with your wallet, after you've spend lots of money on the game already? K then.

You have to admit it's kinda BS when you only have time to do four totems and die on your first hook because you were touched one time the entire game. It's a perk that rewards killers for being bad.
How does it "reward killers for being bad"?
Surbivors don't automatically enter the dying state so that the killer just has to pick them up one by one once NOED activates. Survivors do need to be found and hit once, so stealth and looping are still options. If a killer was truly bad it shouldn't be much of a problem to hide or give them a good lenghty chase so the other survivors could open/99 both exits gates unpressured, right?
It is also a Hex, so the perk pretty much is in the survivors hands and can be disabled entirely. Preemptively even, so it never comes into play.
If the game goes from 0k to a 4k just because of NOED it more often than not means that the survivors were playing poorly and threw themselves at the killer.
Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and leave someone behind or take one for the team and be the martyr if things go sideways and the totem is nowhere to be found.
All in all it punishes bad survivors more than it rewards bad killers imo.
-
Why is everything allegedly a scam all of a sudden?
-
Survivors be potatoes sometimes.
-
You think the current system is any better?
Any change that made smurfing harder would be a good change in my book.
-
You might want to read up on "freedom of speech" and what it means to be suppressed some more.
