A lot of Killers are quite powerful if used effectively.
I love this, because it's so wrong.
The skill-ceiling isn't infinite with most Killers, about 81% of the Killer roster has a maximum skill-ceiling, and just being good won't get you any wins.
What you want to talk about is game knowledge, which doesn't have a ceiling, but it also won't help you with most of the Killers, because as I said previously, they're bad.
You need both to win, which even then you're not guaranteed to win, because Survivors, thanks to DH and the majority of Maps being Survivor-sided, always lead the chase, and have a bigger change to win than the Killer, unless they're playing Nurse and Blight, in which case the Killer takes control of the chase
You‘re wrong. A lot of killers are powerful of used effectively.
Of course you also need game knowledge. You act like it’s impossible for killers to use their powers to down survivors if they know the game. That‘s just wrong. You mentioned holding W and windows before. However, holding W doesn’t work forever, no survivor can outrun a killer, they will always catch up and get a hit and a down. Because they are more powerful. Survivors don’t have a window readily available at all times, the game would be one map with very little vaults to begin with. Chainsaws also provide speed boosts, good Billy’s can still curve and a lot of windows can be mindgamed.
It just seems like you‘re putting all the blame for losing on the game. Yes it‘s not perfectly balanced but I doubt you play perfectly most of the time and just get cucked by not being the power role
That‘s just nonsense. The killer has way more power than any single survivor ever can achieve. The number advantage may be too big if the survivors play well.
However you act like survivors should never ever have a chance in a chase. That‘s just stupid.

I don't think you understand me. I'm taking about a 1v1, a chase, not a literal 1v1 with no one else doing Generators.
No, most Killers are just straight up bad, just because they have ways to counter looping, doesn't mean those ways are of any use.
Trapper can place Traps, ok? They get disarmed and he's an M1 Killer.
Hillbilly, just use Windows.
Bubba, just use Windows.
Wraith, simple M1 Killer.
Myers, simple M1 Killer.
Doctor, simple M1 Killer, dodge his shocks from time to time.
Freddy, simple M1 Killer.
Pig, simple M1 Killer.
Clown, pre-drop Pallets.
Legion, simple M1 Killer.
Ghostface, simple M1 Killer.
Deathslinger, break LOS, ShiftW.
Trickster, break LOS, ShiftW.
Nemesis, break LOS, ShiftW.
Cenobite, simple M1 Killer, break chains with walls.
Onryō, simple M1 Killer
No, you don’t understand. You can‘t just ignore half the game because you feel like it.
In a true 1v1 the killer has all the power, therefore they are the power role.
Most killers aren‘t as bad as you make them out to be, the problem seems to be being able to use them well. A killer is only as the player. If they suck then the survivors should have a good chance at winning.
Good killers aren‘t nearly as easy to beat as you make it out to be.
A lot of Killers are quite powerful if used effectively. They are the power role.
If survivors use their number advantage well they win. That‘s how it should be. The problem is the 1v4 here.
But for the sake of argument let‘s say I don‘t understand. That would be because you never explained yourself properly. What should be the base powerlifting then?

Nah, not really.
Most Killers are extremely easy to loop, only some of them I'd say are difficult, like any Killer that is A tier or above are difficult to loop and every Killer under that depends on the Map.
There are plenty of Survivor-sided Maps, like every MacMillan Estate Map that isn't Shelter Woods, some Autohaven Wreckers, Eyrie Of Crows, Ormond, The Game, RPD, Lampkin Lane and Red Forest, and even some entire realms that are Survivor-sided, like Springwood, Coldwind Farm, Crotus Prenn Asylum, Backwater Swamp
Na mate, your way exaggerating how survivor sided these maps are.
and most killers are only easy to loop if the killer isn‘t that good. Very few of them don’t have tools to deal with loops.
and again, a single survivor can‘t loop and do gens. In a 1v1 the killer has all the power.
If the survivors use their numbers advantage well and play decently they can make good killers sweat. That’s how it should be and it doesn‘t make survivors the power role.
is everything well balanced? No but survivors are not the power role

I never said Survivors 4v1'ing the Killer was bad, I said the Survivors are the power role.
The problem is that Survivors can also 1v1 most Killers, (thanks Dead Hard and bad Maps) which is what makes them overpowered
But they are not and they can‘t 1v1 most killers. Plenty of killers have tools to deal with loops, very few maps are actually that bad plus a single survivor can‘t do gens and evade the killer at the same time.
In a 1v1 scenario the killer most of the time has all the power.

Survivors are still the power role, they dictate the flow of The Trial and how long it lasts, and how it ends.
If good Survivors want to escape and you're not playing Nurse or Blight, they escape and you can't do anything about it
And that‘s the number advantage. That‘s perfectly fine. If the survivors use their number advantage well, Splitpunkt and singend they should have a decent chance of winning.
if a good killer wants a 4K they‘re gonna get it if the survivors don‘t play efficiently.
Why shouldn‘t good survivors be able to win?

Huntress maybe, but that's if she gets a good Map or not, but Demogorgon and Pinhead? Absolutely not.
As much as I love Demogorgon, he can't deal with a 4man. His Shred is amazing, one of the better "non-Blight/Nurse" 1v1 abilities in the game, but it's not enough to deal with Pallet density and DH validating Shred (which hasn't been fixed so I'm counting it as a base-kit feature).
Pinhead even more no.
A C, almost D tier, Killer is nowhere near good enough to beat even a 2man. His 1v1 worthless, barely passable with Impaling Wire and his Box depends solely on the Survivors
Pallet density is only a problem if the pallets are very safe.
Having a lot of deadzones is just as bad as having a lot of strong pallets.
Ideally there should be an even distribution of things for survivors to work with that aren’t incredibly safe.
You also act like a strong 4-man team should not be able to beat any killer. If 4 people who play together are really good they should have a decent chance of winning.

This right here. "Play a chase against them."
You understand that if the survivors have a good footing in chases, that means that the killer ISN'T stronger than the survivor in 1v1, right? Like, that's the WHOLE point of this. If you want survivors to always be strong in 4v1 but the killer to be stronger in 1v1, you are saying that killers have to be strong in 1v1. So when you say "oh but actually survivors ought to be able to outplay killers in chases/loops," you're saying "survivors and killers should be equal in 1v1."
This is how the Devs think too, and it's why the killer play experience is so horrible once you leave the lowest tiers of the game. You can't have survivors be super strong in 4v1 and ALSO have any kind of a chance in 1v1. It doesn't work.
No, you don’t understand. A lot of killers have decent tools to win chases now. Not every single one of them but many and especially the newer ones.
If a survivor is better than the killer they should have a chance at the 1v1 part. Playing the so-called „power role“ should not be an autowin in chases.
if the killer is too bad they should lose. The problem is less the 1v1 but the 1v4 in that the survivors can potentially end the game way too fast.

Killers are not the power role. Survivors are. The fact that Blight and Nurse can be strong enough to sacrifice 4man SWFs does not make them the power role.
No, survivors have strength in numbers and if they utilize it to their advantage they have a good chance at winning.
1 survivor alone can‘t defeat a killer and escape a trial. The killer is far more powerful.
That‘s how it should be. Things need finetuning for sure but survivors are not the power role.

Except, a large number of killers get nerfed SPECIFICALLY to make survivors better against them in 1v1. Just off the top of my head:
- Pyramid Head got a cool-down on pulling his knife up so that survivors could just juke to the side and prevent him from hitting with his power around corners
- Wraith got his reappearance dash nerfed to give survivors who aren't in hitting distance already enough time to out distance him
- Deathslinger got a cooldown added to pulling out his gun without reducing the aiming penalty baked him him, giving survivors plenty of time to juke
- Freddy slows down while placing snares now, making him unable to place them mid-loop without giving the survivor the added distance they'd lose by stepping on the snare
- Spirit got a phasing noise to remove the fake-out on her power as well as directional sounds to give a survivor ample warning where she's at in the first place.
If the game were actually being balanced around killers being very strong in 1v1, I'd agree with you. Except, all these killers and more got their powers gutted specifically to make them weaker in 1v1, while some of the most powerful 1v1 survivor perks (Dead Hard) get buffed considerably with no penalty of any sort. And then they go ahead and add 4v1 perks like CoH that make your team WAAAAY stronger by bypassing the whole "the team needs to work together" aspect of the game.
They weren‘t gutted at all you drama queen. A lot of the things got adjusted because it was almost impossible for the survivors to play a chase against them.
Being strong in a 1v1 does not mean the „weaker“ role should Auto lose. Player skill should still matter somewhat. And most of these killers are still quite strong.

A lot of killer players would leave you on the ground and go hunt someone else because they couldn’t pick you up.
Not every hook gets camped. People like to claim they get camped every hook, but there was a golden age when chases were far more viable and camping a less viable option.
Chains of hate release was great.
If two survivors are in the same spot and their time is running out the killer is likely to stay. It makes sense. Going away means they get to save the two for free, weakening the position of the killer. Staying basically either confirms two kills or gets the snowball rolling if the team decides to come save (which would also mean that little to no gens are being worked in, which means there‘s nowhere else for the killer to be).
Yes, camping doesn‘t have cut as frequently as some people claim but if 2 or more survivors are in the same spot sticking around is the most logical play to make for a killer.

People may still be trying to exploit that in the hope it’ll work.
And then what? Being left to bleed out on the floor while the other survivor gets sacrificed because the killer‘s just camping? I know about the exploit but what does it manny if they‘re dying while getting camped anyway?

That's not an answer for why they'd stay there if the killer isn't picking them up, just a possible answer for why they'd inch closer to a hook.
Fair enough, 99% of the killers just stick around though. It‘s a 2 for 1 and chances are someone else is gonna be coming to make a move.
The strategy just doesn‘t work from my experience. Killers just don’t pick unpin that case.

Sometimes the distance between hooks can create the situation where you could potentially wiggle free by the time the killer walked from one hook to another.
Why stay if the killer shows no intention to pick up and decides to camp though?

What are the three things survivors hate?
1. Camp
2. Tunnel
3. Slug
I'm talking about proxying the hook not straight up face camping. Cutting off survivors that are coming for the save. If that person cant safe or gets injured then another person will come off gens to come for the save. Unless they want to just let the person on hook die on there first hook and slam gens which most teams don't.
Tunneling someone out early is basically an easy win and slugging depending on what killer your playing can be extremely strong. Literally all of these will pull survivors off gens to protect the victim of the camping, tunneling, slugging.
Lots of solo teams will come off gens unorganized because they aren't coordinated. And lots of swfs will come off gens to save there friend.
The reason killers camp, tunnel and slug is because it's easier then traversing the map and dealing with loads of bullsh*t pallets with no mindgame and going for a million chases. Unless you can down people super quick this is not efficient killer play and that's why survivors like it because it gives them a better chance to win. Mixing hooks takes forever and gens will be done quicker this way vs most teams as opposed to camping tunneling, and slugging. Most killers know there is not enough time to chase every survivor multiple times because THE GENS GO TO FAST!
This entirely depends on the survivors being idiots.
If you think these are good strategies to win games you probably have not gone up against many good survivors.
Good survivors won‘t just bomb the hook and stop doing generators while your camping. There gonna rush the gens and get the save.
You‘re not gonna tunnel someone out early against decent survivors. While you‘re busy waiting around for someone to come unhook they‘re gonna slam gens if you don‘t force them off.
If you‘ve went away a bit to bait the unhook they can get distance. You need to chase them down again if you can find them to begin with. That takes time, time the survs spend on gens. If the survivor who‘s being tunneled isn’t an idiot they can possibly hold themselves in a chase and waste your time while everyone else does gens.
Good survivors can easily do all gens and escape while your busy camping and tunneling. It‘s only effective if the survivors are bad, don’t do gens and/or throw themselves at you to prevent tunneling. Against good survivors you’re gonna lose all gens before you‘ve tunneled someone out. And if they‘re real good they‘ll get the tunneled surv out aswell.
It only works against bad survivors. Against good ones you need to actively chase them off gens and get downs in quick succession. Ideally having multiple downs at the same time. That‘s forcing the other survivors off gens into altruistic actions. That‘s why slugging can be so effective, if you’ve got one person downed while chasing a second one, a third one will have to come save the downed guy. If you manage to down survivor number two in the meantime and intercept 3 then the fourth one needs to come save because they‘re likely not going to get all gens done by themselves.
You‘re pressuring all survivors at that point. Camping and tunneling does literally the opposite. It pressures one survivor only and let’s everyone else do gens unhindered.
You‘re in no position to complain about gens being done fast if you employ a playstyle that does nothing to prevent that and actively encourages rushing gens over anything.
if that’s how you want to play, fine. But don‘t pretend it’s a good strategy because it banks on survivors being idiots to work. It‘s a terrible strategy and any decent team will wreck it hard. Justs standing around instead of actively going out hunting also means the killer is not gonna improve in a meaningful way.
-
@DyingWish92 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2945688#Comment_2945688
You camp someone and the altruism starts pretty often.
Decent survivors don‘t bomb the hook. They‘re gonna finish all the gens, come for a coordinated save, easy 3-4E.
There‘s also no logical structure here. Gens get done quickly, so to stop that the killer ideally wants to force survs into other actions, especially altruism. Ungooking, healing, picking up slugs. Camping pushes semi-decent survivors away from altruistic actions and towards slamming gens. It accomplishes literally the opposite.
I‘m well aware that there‘s plenty of stupid people not doing that even though it makes the most sense, I‘ve written exactly that.
Doesn‘t change the fact that the logic here is highly flawed.
-
@DyingWish92 said:
Killers camp and tunnel because the gen speeds are laughably fast when survivors play efficient, end of story. As long as a triple gen pop can happen in the first 60-90 seconds of the game killers will never stop camping and tunneling.
Makes 0 sense. Camping in that case should make it so you lose all gens at get 1 kill at best if the survivors don‘t coordinate a decent save.
It‘s a terrible way to play against people slamming gens because you‘re enabling them to slam gens unchallenged.
Camping pushes survivors away from doing anything but gens (atleast the somewhat smart ones).
-
Yes, not everyone is overly altruistic. my point however is that survivors reward camping and tunneling way to frequently either by being overly altruistic or by just camping themselves around the hook instead of punishing it properly by slamming gens.
Killers camp and tunnel because it gets them lots of kills but it only gets them lots of kills if survivors let that happen.
Camping in theory is inefficient. In practice it works but it shouldn’t. There‘sd be far less of it if survs wouldn‘t make it work so frequently. Killers camp for easy kills, if survivors don’t throw there’s no easy kills with camping anymore and they need to change their strategy.
Tunneling would also be less effective if survs just didn‘t go for unsafe unhooks and did gens.
-
Killers camp and tunnel because the survivors make it work way too often.
Camping a hook is a surefire way to lose a lot of gens. Or at least it should be. Unfortunately too many players just drop everything to bomb the hook. Seen it plenty of times, someone gets hooked and everyone is there and made their presence known to the killer before they even had a chance to step away.
Or it goes like this: someone gets hooked, the killer decides to stick around and every survivor is hovering around and camping the hook aswell. I always want to pull my hair out if that happens to me. Like why? What do people think is going to happen? That the killer is gonna change their mind halfway through and just leaves so their camping pays off? It doesn‘t. What happens is that no gens get done, one survivor dies and the killer often finds the next person to chase and down. Rinse and repeat and boom, easy 4K with barely any gens done. Survivors made it a winning strategy.
Whether or not tunneling is efficient also highly depends on the survivors. If t person being tunneled is somewhat decent and has some decent tiles to work with they could potentially waste a lot of the killers time. Time 3 other players can use to slam gens. Unfortunately they often don‘t.
Yeah it suxks getting camped und tunneled, been there. But what sucks more is being camped and tunneled while your teammates do diddly squat. That means that all efforts were for naught. If nobody is doing gens, chances are no one is going to escape. Slam gens, let the killer get 1k and have 3 people easily escape. That‘d make me rethink my strategies.
Overly altruistic plays are hard countered by camping and tunneling. Bombing hooks, unhooking in the killers face, throwing oneself at the killer to prevent tunneling and/or force BT/DS reward these playstyles and make them efficient.

Common in DBD.
I don't understand a lot of players' mentality (for both sides), but I guess we have to deal with it. Very disappointing though.
Sure thing, I‘m all for playing the way you want.
it just seemed to me like rushing unhooks and not doing gens is the new strategy of survs.
And if they just want to mess around that‘s cool with me, I just can‘t wrap my head around people seemingly getting upset over losing but insisting on not doing the objective which would win them the game but throwing themselves at the killer and getting killed.
It seems like they‘re expecting to win like that. I just ask myself how and why?
-
No one'll ever know what perks are used by whom until the match is over. Very few perks (if any) give a notification preemptively.
This also isn't exclusive to DbD but happens in pretty much every game with a similar loadout system. Players have to make assumptions of what's in use and play around it and that's perfectly fine, it is one of the few skillful things to do in this game.
There'd be no real skillful interactions left and no point in playing if all players hands were held at all times and everybofdy was told what perks were used by whom and what everyone should do at any given time.
-
Hiding behind a random piece of debris and sitting still is not stealth gameplay.
Have you ever played any other stealth games? Enemies will usually gain tools to detect the player more easily like thermal vision or something. Knowing what tools the enemy has to detect you is key to skillful stealth.
This also holds true for DbD and killers perks & addons. learn what possibilities they have to detect survivors and always play around them if you want to stay undetected. Always have a backup plan in case you do get found.

Every time. And it was awful. The killer would get perfect games, I wouldn't even hook 1 person before they all escaped... it was not fun. at all.
I do hope they bring back their MMR system and make it a bit more transparent. It seemed like it was working for some people. But it was very much not working for others.
I get that it must've been awful, my experience when I was fresh wasn't any better mostly because of derankers.
If something wasn't working as intended it needs fixing, not disaghreeing with that. I'm just saaying that my experience has been pretty solid, better than ever I'd say. So they seem to be onto something. I just hope they get it sorted out. With people deranking and using alt accounts ranks just aren't eorking out very well I feel.
Some more transparacy would be helpful, I agree. I just hope that it won't be too easy to manipuilate your MMR then.BUt yeah atleast knowing how big of a discrepancy in MMR there was (if any) would go a long way I assume.

Playing a killer for the first few times was ridiculously easy with the old mmr system. The fact that you enjoyed it while playing killer but now play survivor makes your preferences seem suspicious.
However, the mmr system was showing signs of working once you got past the placement phase. The real issue is that BHVR made it ridiculously time consuming to get past the placement phase with killers for some reason even though there were multiple avenues they could have used to put killers at an altered mmr instead of starting at a baseline mmr. Also, people were just whining non-stop because they don't seem to understand how mmr works and think that the beginning of the system is indicative of how it works when mmr gets settled.
First few games weren't easy for me though. First couple of gamnes were usually rally tough for mk but I'd get a few easy ones after and then it seemed to have settled in and gave me fair matches. Challenging ones but fair nonetheless.

Now that MMR is gone every game is us (me) fixing 1-3 generators and then all of us dying on our 3rd hook. And for some reason the rank system chooses to punish me by keeping me in the red ranks even though every game I go into is guaranteed to be a 4k for the killer and I can't catch a break with easier games due to my rank which in no way reflects my skill imo. And I really don't want to start disconnecting just to get my rank down.
Easy games don't equate to fair matchups though, quite the contrary.
By deranking you're being a problem, that being matches with a large disparity in skilll between killers and survivors. Vets being matched against newbies was a big complaint while the MMr was active but deranking leads to the sane results except it is done on purpose and is in no way reflected by the rank numbers seen at the end. I think it is a preytty scummy mthing to do, so don't please.
Deranking on purpose is a big aprt of why ranks mean axcxactly nothing when judging the skill of a player. Matchmaking without the MMR is dreadful because of smurfs and boosted players.

Helps more with decision making ? IDK, not sure 100% if you go for real in solo 36m are nothing compared to Empathy LEV3 128m. Matches are fast and there is always someone injured running in the map. If i am on the other side on the map i see n-o-t-h-i-n-g with Bond but i can see with Empathy (high % someone is injured) and according the survivor/s movement i move and i do gens.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1262748#Comment_1262748
@Atrushan88 i use Empathy for the same reason. Too many times people spread in the map. Impossible to understand exactly what's happening with Bond. But i understand what's happening with Empathy.
Bonds range may be more limited but 36 m is still really good. It is also always on and has the higher potential because of it. Empathy will only ever provide more information if multiple survivors are injured at the same time and stay injured for a long time.
Right from the start Bond tells you how many people spawned near you. Empathy does nothing at that point. If you're the first one to be found and chased Empathy does nothing for you. Bond helps you lead the killer away from teammates so they can repair gens unpressured (or lead the killer towards them if one really wanted to be that kind of person). Bond'll always help to avoid sandbagging your team, Empathy not so much.
If you want to find another survivor Bond'll always help with that. Empathy not.
If someone gets hooked Bond and Kindred are typically more useful. Injured survivors should be the last ones going for saves and knowing what the uninjured ones are doing is typically more helpful to coordinate saves and make sure gens are still being done.
Empathy is more helpful at endgame if you want to take a hit for an injured survivor so they can escape or if you're going for altruistic plays in general. Empathy is useless when nobody is injured. Bond may have a more limited range but is also holds a limitless potential in comparison. You can always get value/info out of Bond , you can't with Empathy. Not seeing anyone with Bond is still information, not seeing anyone with Empathy isn't.

Bond ? Ehmm meeh... IDK 36m LEV3 is not the best of the world. If i go solo i have 10 times more info with Empathy. Yes, you dont see the Killer, you dont know the position of the Killer but you can predict the position according how surv injured move in the map.
Bond helps much more with decision making though. You get to see what others are doing and therefore what the best course of action would be. It'll also help you prevent interrupting gen repairs while being chased. Bond and Kindred help be more efficient overall, Empathy not so much.

No one would be hurt by this. Russians will get to play with themselves and feel how much of a big tryhards they are, and European matches might be longer to find than usual.
Queue times might increase but no one would be hurt by this? What?

Isn't that mostly done to undermine grey-market sales?

It is a ploy to make all the players who come here to spew insults and denounce the devs for eveything they do (instead oft giving constructive feedback) leave the game.

What the? Surely you can't be serious.

Actually swf is not mechanically stronger than solo, it's just easier.
Yes, mechanically it is the same as SoloQ hence why if Solo was underpowered, SWF wouldn't shift it drastically in the opposite direction. Easier for sure but the success of an SWF still hinges on survivors being decently strong at base.
