Wonder what happens if you have a character who HAPPENS to have a Hawkins offering in their bloodw eb
-
Disagree. They need to bring it back. I'm tired of using my limited Seed offerings, only for the killer to ragequit.
-
I mean if you don't own Mikaela why do you want her skin?
-
It does feel like they should disable things that don't work, so people aren't left confused. Especially things like items and add-ons, because those you have a limited number of and have to spend BP for. If it were a perk, I'd say "Okay, sure." But you only have so many add-ons. It should've been disabled IMO.
-
A bit too abuse-able, I think. An SWF could set up a really nasty boon, pair with Vigil, and yikes.
-
Because it is until you run into a survivor team that can counter it. Which isn't very often in solo Queue. It'll win you most of your games as killer.

Dunno if you saw yet, but SAW is going into this crap too, and with the next tome (after trickster now) being rumored to BE saw focused... bet your arse there will be saw tie-ins with this crap
I probably shouldn't defend BHVR on this because they haven't proven to be worthy of the benefit of the doubt, but my guess is that BHVR won't be involved with the Saw NFT based on the fact that Saw has been in the game for years and it's unlikely part of their agreement, unlike with the Hellraiser Chapter. Now that's not to say they aren't involved. I can definitely understand why people think that with recent events. But I don't think they really have much to gain from it, so they're probably not involved. Certainly not for a Tome. Now if they were adding Jigsaw or Hoffman or whatever into the game, then I could see it.
Saw doing NFT's is crazy though, cause it feels like people selling NFT's are exactly who Jigsaw would go after.
-
First, I see a Windows of Opportunity in there.
Second, BT is practically a requirement these days. Going into a match without BT is like putting yourself at a significant handicap. Tunneling and proxy camping are more prevalent than ever. And killers will say "BUT I NEED TO DO IT!" Which is fine, but then don't moan when survivors bring BT because they ALSO need to do it.
Third, an exhaustion perk is also practically a requirement. There's a reason Sprint Burst and Dead Hard are used almost every match, and it's because they extend chases.
That's basically half of your slots dedicated to two things (unless you're in an SWF, in which case maybe only two of you need BT). It's not really better on the killer's side, where almost every match you'll see Ruin/Undying and then probably tinkerer. Pretty much every single match. It's not that these perks need changed. It's that these perks are the ones that actually work. Until basic mechanics are changed, you won't really see perks used being changed unless you make perks the same level as them.
-
Huge Pig Buff, though: Hatch no longer spawns until there's one survivor left. Meaning that people with active traps can't just wait at the hatch for their team to leave.
-
No, having used Boon Totems I feel they just wouldn't be worth it if the killer could just put them out like that. You'd have to make it take more time consuming for the killer, and a way bigger effect for survivors.
-
Just played on Hawkins, so it's not removed.
-
I'm not quitting, but I'm not sure I'll spend any real money on the game again unless the Devs do something.

can you grab me a screenshot showing that you own the character and the perks are still generic for you, because I did have it confirmed that you should have the original perk names if you owned the DLC.
Here's my P3 Nancy with Self-Aware. (The other perks are also named differently, I checked)

I'll use shards, and that's it.

What is an NFT?
An NFT is basically this: A digital receipt saying that you own something digital. In the case of the NFT's with Hellraiser, it's basically the models you see in Dead By Daylight. You know, those same models you can find in folders in the game. So basically it's just a receipt. It has ZERO legal standing. Basically it's just bragging rights so you can say "I own this!" and not be technically lying. (More accurately, you're saying "I paid for this" rather than that you "Own this")
Why is this causing a commotion?
Because NFT's are basically a scam. And on top of that, they require exorbitant amounts of energy usage. I'm talking a LOT of energy usage for just one transaction. To give you an idea in terms of Dead By Daylight: Imagine Otzdarva makes a video. It's a 3 hour video, like most of them are. He makes a WHOLE bunch of them. And you watch them all. (He's very informative.) You watch 5 of them every day for a year. The amount of energy you use watching youtube for all that time, would STILL be less than that used for one ethereum transaction -- which again, is basically to get bragging rights for something with absolutely no legal standing.
Summary
NFT's are pretty much a money-making scheme to get stupid people to buy something worthless, and in turn use a WHOLE LOT of Energy to do so. And BHVR is promoting them.
-
BHVR's behavior is inexcusable here tbh. I get that they really wanted Hellraiser in the game. But it just wasn't worth it. Maybe they didn't know about the NFT's ahead of time, and their arm is twisted here. But it's a very bad look to support NFT's.
- NFT's require an unreasonable amount of energy. It's the equivalent of watching 15 hours of Youtube a day, every day for a year. Just for a single transaction. To put this in terms of DBD players: It's like watching 5 Otz Videos a day every day for a year. That's the amount of energy ethereum transactions take. Yes, 5 3 hour long videos of Otz talking about how he'd fix the game (Bless him) and how good perks are and how bad they are. Every day for a year. And you'd still be using less energy than just ONE ethereum transaction.
- If we say "Oh, but this won't fix the environment", you're right -- but only on a technicality. No, this one single action won't fix the environment. But if we say that for every little thing that uses excessive amounts of energy, it adds up over time. And NFT's aren't really something you want to defend. So while this won't fix everything, it will help to prevent from making the problem worse.
- Why? Because NFT's are basically just digital receipts that say you own something digital. AKA Absolutely Worthless. No real world value whatsoever. They're essentially bragging rights. So people are essentially using 5700 hours of youtube watching time levels of energy for BRAGGING RIGHTS. And guess what? The bragging rights are pretty much meaningless anyway! You could say "I own this image!" and not spend an inordinate amount of energy on something, and people would react the exact same way as if you own an NFT, except perhaps with slightly less disgust.

God why are people suddenly overhyping this guy so much?
It's like people suddenly forgot the last 5 years he was at the company with all the dumb things BHVR made in the past.
Because McLean has been one of the few Devs who actually plays the game and is actually pretty good at it. It's not like McLean wasn't popular before this. If you asked most people to name their favorite Dev a month ago, most of them would've still said McLean. McLean was responsible for Blight, one of the best killers in the game.

Fond DBD Memory:
Back before Crossplay I could only play on the Switch. This was back when my internet was absolute GARBAGE. But it didn't matter, Nintendos' online service was also garbage. Anyway, Switch had almost NO players. So we'd often end up facing the same people over and over again. This one game, I faced this Huntress on Lerys. It was a difficult match. One guy DC'd, and he had Huntress Lullaby (Lullaby is a joke on other platforms, but on Switch? It's basically Ruin). I went around the map and cleansed THREE TOTEMS before finally finding a fourth, which was of course Lullaby. I didn't find the fifth totem, but we got the last gen done. Then NOED hit. She downed me and killed me, but I was pretty happy because it was a fun game trying to hide from her all that time while being unable to do generators.
Next game I queue up as killer -- and low and behold who's a survivor in my lobby? The same Huntress that just killed me! But she had No Mither, and was going for the No Mither archive challenge. So I let her go because I knew how hard that challenge was. We friended each other after that. No idea if they remembered I was the survivor they killed in the game before that. But I'll never forget that game.
-
I'm playing Civilization 6. I still don't understand how to play, but I'm playing it anyway. (I've actually played past Civ games, but this one confuses me)
Sadly, I'm not sure there are any other online games I'm interested in. My PC can't run most games.

They literally might have to. Contracts can be like that.
Best thing is to simply let BHVR you don't want them to do this again, and keep not buying NFTs. That's literally it.
Making hell for the community manager isn't going to do anything.
All this pent up activism should be pointed at something actually impactful in life.
Yes, I know they can be contractually obligated to. But if there were such conditions on the contract, and BHVR knew they were doing it (and they should have known), they should've just used something public domain or released an original character or just said "Oops, no new killer this time." Nobody would be any worse off if Pinhead weren't in DBD. Maybe wait for Clive Barker to get the rights back and try to work with him.
Also, I don't think anyone's making it hell on the Community Manager here.
And I'd say that NFT's are pretty impactful given how much damage they do to our environment.
-
They can't stop the license holders from doing what they want.
They also don't have to advertise the scam that destroys the environment for them.

Even if it is a joke it shows how easy it is to get the models
I mean that's how it is for all NFT's. So they didn't screw up. Anyone who buys NFT's need to examine their life.
-
@Majin151 said:
Bhvr might not be breaking the policy but I can see steam updating the policy to have nothing nft related to your product outside the games or inside the games
I doubt it. And here's why:
They're not THAT altruistic. It's easy to take a stance like "No NFT"s in game!" But if they take actions for something outside the game, people will expect them to do it with other things. And that could end up costing them money. They like money.
-
A Single Ethereum Transaction (which I believe is what BossProtocol is using) consumes enough power to power 1 US Household for 2.5 days. That's just ONE transaction. It's about equal to watching Youtube 15 hours a day for a whole year. That's a LOT of energy usage for a single ethereum transaction.
And it's just to own a digital certificate that says "You own this digital art."
That's what the uproar is over.

You won’t lose your account but DBD will be removed from Steam cause of the NFT. There only choice is to let DBD die or Remove Pinhead from the game
I really doubt Steam removes DBD over this. Bear in mind this isn't what i think SHOULD happen, but rather what I think WILL happen. I just don't think Steam will remove it. If forced to respond, they'll say that BHVR isn't selling the NFT's directly on the platform.
-
I doubt they're going to remove Dead by Daylight from steam. Whether they should or not, is another question. But -- I can't see Steam removing the game from their platform. They'll state that while DBD is involved with NFT's, they aren't selling them on the platform and the game is still not (currently) a crpto-currency based game.
This isn't so much in favor of BHVR CYAing themselves. Because they really screwed the pooch with their response, and clearly weren't prepared for their playerbase to be upset about it. So I doubt they thought much about any other consequences. But I don't think Steam will go so far as to ban a popular game, and will let it slide at the very least for now. Because Steam likes money too.
-
Who are the NFT"s even supposed to appeal to, from BHVR"s end that Boss Protocol thought it'd be a great idea for BHVR to promote them?
Who in their right mind is going to spend $230 and burn down a rain forest in exchange for a chance at getting the a DBD Chapter and a skin that costs what... $15.00 combined? Yeah, it comes with a bunch of other stuff that you allegedly™ own. But nobody from the DBD end of things is going to go "Man, Can't wait to spend $230 and burn down a rain forest to get a chance at getting a DBD Chapter and a skin that I could get for $15.00"
-
I don't think i've ever been more disappointed in BHVR. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but apparently they didn't deserve it.
I get that this was probably necessary to bring Hellraiser to DBD. But they could've easily done a fun other chapter. Something public domain, like Dracula, and it would've got fans just as excited. Maybe we would've never gotten Pinhead. Or maybe Clive Barker would've eventually said 'okay'. But I'd rather never have Pinhead in the game, than to support NFT's. I get that there's no exclusive content locked behind it, and that we can all ignore the NFT's as much as possible. But someone out there will be buying them. And the environmental damage it will cause will be done, whether we buy them or not. And who's to say the next license won't also have NFT's. BHVR sees something they want, and the company decides "Hey, I can make a quick buck off selling NFT's if I license this out to BHVR."
And the PR department handled this HORRIBLY. Disappointing all around.
-
Me, who has enough BP to get Mikaela up to 40 and then get her perks on my main *laughs*
-
They should let you also see Totems with it. I think that'd make it useful. Maybe reduce the range in exchange to 48 meters.
-
@QTASTIC said:
Hex: Weary Weather
- As long as this totem stands, all survivors suffer from the exhaustion status effect. The survivor who cleanses this totem will become exhausted for 10/20/30 seconds.
-This hex is way too OP if it was part of a stage up token perk like devour hope then I'd be pretty balanced but by itself it needs heavy nerfing imagine this perk, haunted grounds, hex: undying, and X Perk You'd literally cancel out a majority of perks most game unless all survivors search for this hex totem from the start extending start game like corrupt intervention. Rip no mither users even more.
Cooldown
- When things heat up, you know how to keep it cool. Your other perks will cooldown 20/25/30% faster. - Absolutely terrifying for other killers to be able to run this 30% is a bit much it knocks 9 secs off 30 sec cooldowns but 18secs off of 60 sec cooldowns. If you want to make it have higher cooldown reduction you'd want it to be a hex: perk
Icy Stare
- If you've been out of chase for 40/35/30 seconds, you will see the aura of all survivors more than 40 meters away for 4 seconds.
-I'd actually buff this and make it 25 seconds of standing still and with cooldown taking it down to 17.5 seconds or even 15 seconds. to go 30 secs without activity and assuming at least 3 survivors are on gens you've lost up to 24% plus walking time per activation on each gen. But every killer usually has that one perk you usually nope on lol. could also rework it to have an even lower cooldown and only show one survivor more then 40 meters away for 4 seconds. or have it be a token perk.
Hopefully I helped in someway.
You make some good points I hadn't considered.
I converted Weary Weather into a token based perk. Requiring you to hook each survivor once to get the permanent effect. I decided that like Devour, it should have an effect that the survivors won't be able to notice until at full power. But instead of a haste effect, killers get part of unrelenting, and one stack of save the best for last. Should make it slightly more bearable, and has the advantage of encouraging the killer to go after different targets.
I reduced the numbers on Cooldown. The idea is mostly to give killers their own version of Vigil. I feel like this would mostly be useful with Starstruck and maybe Make Your Choice, though it'd help with perks like Dragon's Grip and Oppression as well (which have absurd cooldowns)
And I put Icy Stare on an 80 second cooldown. Mostly the idea of this perk is to prevent survivors from hiding constantly when it's down to 1 or 2 people. Now it's sort of like OoO for killers, but shows the furthest survivor, rather than the obsession.
-
The game is unbalanced because Nurse exists. Nurse makes it so that killers really can't have anything too strong.
-
It's a balancing issue.
"But then shadowborn would be Meta!"
If we gave survivors Kindred as basekit -- which btw is not a meta perk, it would still affect the balance of the game. Just like giving killers free shadowborn would affect the balance of the game.
-
@fingerman365 said:
I completely agree. Playing killer sometimes feels like trying to go through a divorce again. They should remove exhaustion perks, they give survivors free distance with no skill requirement.
Okay, remove exhaustion perks then remove slowdown perks.
-
Dracula. Definitely Dracula. He's definitely a horror Icon. And he's public domain. So is Van Helsing. Wonder why they haven't done it yet.
-
If they were going to do 1031, they should've done Iri Shards instead tbqh. But only because 1031 BP won't even buy one of those offerings that increases the amount of BP you earn from different categories.
-
This doesn't seem like a challenge so much as something you're just doing.
-
Going to save it for after the new survivor release. Mwahaha.
-
This is probably why it took so long for them to respond. The license holders are behind the NFT's, and they wanted to be able to respond in a way that didn't upset the license holders. Makes sense.
-
Why do you hate your friends so much? (just kidding. That joke was obligatory)
Starting out is very hard. I still remember my first games. I quit after two games of survivor, and two games of killer. It wasn't that I wasn't winning. It was that it felt like I couldn't win. As survivor, I'd get camped, nobody would save me, or we wouldn't get the generators done. As killer, I couldn't figure out how the killers powers worked. I tried Spirit and Nurse. Got 0 hooks both times. At the time, I didn't know there were streamers out there playing the game, showing how it was done. I wouldn't learn about that for several months. All I knew was what my cousins told me about the game, which wasn't much. Oh, and I played the tutorial which was about as useful as a screendoor on a submarine.
Eventually my cousin started joining me in my games (on a new account, on a new system because this was before crossplay was announced). She'd ALWAYS play Bill, and would ALWAYS come to save me. And... I actually sort of started having fun. If not for that, I don't think I'd have ever gotten into the game and bought every DLC. Later, I watched streamers who I learned a lot more from. DBD is just one of those games that is absolutely crushing to try as a newbie.
My advice: Get them into a KYF lobby, and let them practice playing both sides. It really is better if you learn both sides. And you should be killer sometimes, and teach them the ropes. Get on comms or whatever, and explain things to them, and why you do the things you do, and what they can do to counter it. Also recommend some streamers (Otzdarva is probably the most informative) for them to check out. The early stages of playing DBD for either side can be very frustrating. Good luck.
-
3 rituals for each side? I'd be down for that.
Maybe give 50,000 BP for each daily, instead of what it's currently at. (With the harder ones being upped from 60k to 100k)

When I keep getting the same maps over and over I just start using offerings or just stop playing. I don’t understand why it’s difficult for the devs to prevent the game from making players see the same maps over and over.
5 players might've had 5 different maps in the previous game. That's why.
That said, yeah I'll use a map offering when I get the same map too often. A lot of people think "People use map offerings to get an advantage!" but a lot of us just use them because we're SICK of playing on Red Forest for the 5th time in one night.

I'm extremely disappointed in your decision, but.....
Would you rather have a scientist who is a loving and caring mother trying to stop her monstrous husband to save Sherry, AND loves shooting people in the shoulder
OR
A lying chick who has no sense of style and relies on gadgets
I don't know about you, but I would take the first option...
I'll take the Nurse who saves a complete stranger who at one point she thought was a total murderer thank you very much.
