The UI is not horrible, but the developers egregious disregard of the overwhelmingly negative feedback it got all throughout PTR and beyond was.
Exactly. I've already sort-of gotten used to it, but that doesn't excuse the devs for being silent & pushing out a change that was hated by the majority. We have a PTB for a reason, right?
-
I like a lot of things from this update, and I think the good outweighs the bad:
- Love the walking, running & crawling animations. The idle one definitely needs to be tweaked but as for the rest, I love how they look a tad bit more realistic. My only complaint is that you cannot swerve nor can you 360 anymore :(
- Love the map reworks they did for Chapel, Disturbed Ward & The Game. I think the Chapel & Ward are well done & are really nice graphical wise. The Game needs to be looked at about dead ends & too many god pallets, but besides that I love that they implemented more Saw references.
- Clown's soundtrack is a bop & you cannot tell me otherwise. My first game going against him, I was genuinely scared when I heard his music because I completely forgot they gave him one & needless to say I went down quick. Was it worth it though? Hell yeah!
- As for the killer buffs, I think Wraith got the best treatment here. He definitely isn't stronger than he was but now he might have a chance of actually sneaking up on people in open maps. Trapper & Clown.. I feel like they need more buffs than that, but atleast the devs tried.
- You can crouch n flashlight now.. nuff said.
- Last but not least (assuming I didn't miss anything), the UI. I really like the portraits & the hook counter although I don't like where they repositioned it. I personally don't think it's as bad as everyone says it is, but I will say that it didn't need to be changed. I'm probably going to get used to it though, so it's fine.
I do think the devs released an update that should've been delayed, but despite that I applaud them for doing an amazing job on trying to make the game more immersive & balanced.
-
I know you said you didn't want to hear it but let me try & give some insight, yeah?
People killing themselves on hook definitely leaves your team handicapped & I only ever do it if I:
- Got sandbagged multiple times
- See nobody doing anything except crouching behind rocks at 5 gens
- If I hit 2nd stage and could've CLEARLY been saved (correlates with the 2nd reason)
If I see that myself or others probably killed themselves for those reasons, I usually wouldn't care because the game is clearly going nowhere & they probably just wanted to move onto another one. Now if they kill themselves on hook because:
- They went down in chase too fast
- They don't want to go against a specific killer/map
- Mad you took their chest/totem (pettiest reason ever)
- Etc..
Then I completely understand your frustration. Sometimes people feel superior when they do this because it's either revenge on the killer (less BP) or their team (pretty much a loss unless 1 gen left). It's the exact same thing as DC'ing just without the penalty, which is crazy to think about.
-
I didn't know that you could crouch n flashlight. Thanks for sharing!
-
The UI literally looks like you're in a Discord call with your fellow teammates.

Yes they did. A lot of people wanted to buff solo survivors information wise to be closer to swf. And thats what the new ui starts. Yes, the totem counter some requestet isnt there, but a hook counter is.
Take a look around the forum, and you will see a lot of people requested such changes. They might not be aware that the way to do that might take a new ui, but they still requested it.
That's not what I meant
A few minor changes such as the portraits & hook counter doesn't make a UI completely different. If anything, it's literally the same UI with a few quality-of-life improvements. Here's an example of what they should've done:
Instead, they moved the UI to a completely different spot for no reason other than it might look better. Many people including myself hate having to look at the tippy top of our screens just to see basic info. Not to mention, they made struggle/and mending timers almost impossible to see.
I'm not saying nobody asked for the small changes, I'm saying nobody wanted a completely new format. It was not necessary & could've remained the same with those few tweaks.

If that's the case then in game report the hacker in the lobby and create a support ticket just for a good measure. I personally haven't heard of such hack but it's possible it exists.
It definitely exists. I've seen hackers that can heal themselves and their teammates one tap, can finish gens one tap and can open gates one tap. It's awful & is a big problem right now.

Commenting to keep this post afloat. Things like this shouldn't be ignored.
-
bro I thought it was just me #########
-
It's not about "hating" the new UI, it's about expressing opinion that they shouldn't have changed something that never needed changing in the first place. Sure, the hook count & portraits are cool, but that's as far as it will get.
Nobody asked for a new UI.

I want them to wallow in fear. Let my Demo scream his head off. They better be ready when I come for them ;)
I've sunk so many hours into Demo. It's especially hard since I'm a console player not as much freedom as a PC Demo main
Same with Oni. Flicks are especially hard to do since I can barely control my aim in the first place.

I have that issue as well lol. Wish they were like hags traps where if you put a new one down the oldest one closes. Just so that he'll have a little more pressure and have some sort of end game pressure
Yeah. Not to mention his audio cues literally give away his every move. Land a hit? RAAAAAAAAA! Miss a hit? (dont know how to describe this one lol) Pallet stun? Whistle sound.
Either way, he is decent with the right person playing him & that just isn't me.

Demo takes hours to learn. Especially his shreds. You got to know when to exactly time it or else you'll go face first into a pallet or a wall. I mainly just use his portals to get around the map and slow down gens because they end up wasting time breaking portals rather then doing gens
I really wish you could "pick up" his portals, because I always seem to waste them & don't realize until I don't have any left.

That definitely is the cutest dweet I've ever seen. His backstory is pretty dope. Who doesn't love a good samurai?
Exactly!
Also, I want to applaud you for maining Demo. He is a very frustrating killer imo & I can never play confident with him.
What's funny is that I know exactly how to play him, but never manage to get the same results that other people get. Hell, I even give advice to other people as to how to play him even though I completely suck.
-
I definitely tend to main Dweet. He's just very adorable imo & whenever I see an actual Dweet, I'll literally go out of my way to babysit him the whole game (take hits, bodyblock the killer, etc.)
I mean.. just look at him in his Dwight-in-a-Box cosmetic. How could you not?
Runners up are Tapp & Kate. Love Tapp because of Saw & Kate because of her backstory and cosmetics.
When it comes to killer, Oni is my obvious choice. I'm not going to go into too much detail here since I'll end up rambling, but let's just say that he is a bad*ss samurai that has amazing map pressure & mobility. He performs really well in high ranks.
Once again, runner up is Ghostface because I really like sneaking up on people in hopes of making them jump.
I really like other killers as well, but I often only play these 2.
-
Spirit needs indication for when she is phasing in chase, that way survivors have a chance to mindgame with her. Right now, you just have to hope that the person playing her is bad.
As for everyone else..
Wraith is just useless. No map pressure & nothing special about him. Oh wow, he can turn mildly invisible. Cool?
Trapper needs to start off with more traps & be able to sometimes punish survivors for trying to disable them. Whenever a survivor tries to do so, they should have a small chance of it closing in on them. It'll make them think twice before they do it.
Demo needs to stop giving audio cues on EVERY single thing he is doing. With that being said, don't remove his scream.. but why does he have to make an entire map indication that he missed a hit or got stunned? Also, make his footsteps quieter. His "undetectable" portals are useless because of it.
Legion is just annoying & weak. Not sure as to how you could change him, but right now his power is both underpowered and repetitive to play against.
Hillbilly doesn't need his overheat to be that oppressive & Bubba doesn't need to have such a punishable tantrum imo.
Pig is fine except for the fact that she needs to rely less on RNG as well as have her lunge actually be intimidating. Most survivors know when it's coming, whether they're on a gen or at a pallet loop.
Clown needs actual map pressure, not a tiny speed boost that can literally benefit survivors if mistakenly thrown.
Freddy probably needs to get his passive sleep taken away. He excels in every category (chases, pressure, etc), therefore survivors should have a better chance at counterplay.
I'd like to think that the other killers that I didn't mention are in a good spot. Not too weak nor OP.
I was going to mention Huntress because of her wind-up time, but I believe she has addons for that. Michael might be in need of a buff too.
-
That's weird.. considering they haven't said much regarding this, I'd think about making a bug report. You're either going to get told it is one or that it isn't & they changed up the requirements for pipping. Win win.
-
dont worry, they gave us jiggle physics to compensate.

Triggered killers think they're the victim when it's really them being the instigator. I'm just trying to play the game and you have to do THAT?!
Exactly lol. Apparently looping is toxic now? Whenever I play killer & I get looped really good, I just accept the fact that they are better than me & move onto another survivor instead of ruining their match by face-camping.

It could be that the hook timer resumes when the killer actively enters a chase or if he spends too much time near the hook.
Even if the surv keeps the killer near the hook, wouldnt it be a dangerous rescue since the killer is near the hook? (If the hook timer pauses when the killer is no farther than 10 meters from the hook?)
The survivor that isn't on the hook would loop around the survivor that is while the other 2 do gens. It is definitely abuseable & I don't know if this would be a good idea.
Like you said, ONLY if the killer is not in a chase should the survivor timer be paused.
-
@Rivyn said:
Okay.
Just curious.. why leave a reply if you have nothing to say?
-
I wouldn't say it's the worst killer I've met, but I had a Ghostface chase me around on Coldwind for 4 gens straight. About 2 of those gens was spent looping around the cow loop & that was when he downed me. Even though I never once tbagged nor BM'd him in any way, he stands over me & tbags over and over for like 2 minutes straight. I could tell he was definitely tilted & felt a need to relieve that by mocking me.
Needless to say, I die one-hooked because he facecamps me. All of my teammates get out & I end up getting a message from him on PSN after the game. He said something along the lines of "Haha revenge, that's what you get" to which I reply "For playing the game?". He never replied.
Like dude, it isn't my fault you threw the game because of one chase. Why do you have to punish me for it?
-
Just play Dr. Disconnect to show survivors what OP & repetitive actually means.
(Doctor + Indoor map + Iridescent King & Calm addon, Lullaby, Distressing, Unnerving Prescence + whatever else (usually Overcharge))
Orrr..
You could also play no-power Oni & see survivor auras 24/7. If the survivors are going to talk smack at the endgame, atleast they'll have a reason this time.
(Oni + Indoor map + Bloody Glove & Splintered Hull + Sloppy Butcher + Coulrophobia + Distressing + Nurses Calling)

Do you all really recieve toxicity this often?
For me it's very rare to see toxicity in post game chat. Maybe once in 30 games I have someone unhappy. Most of the time they don't say anything, or just say gg to my gg.
So I genuinely don't understand why there is such strong statement that "dbd comunity is toxic".
You should go play the lottery if you're that lucky, because believe me when I say that DBD is one of the most toxic communities ever. It definitely happens often & is why a lot of people (mostly killers) quit.
-
I'm pretty sure an update affecting quality-of-life gameplay such as the UI, animations & maps is much bigger than a killer being added to the game, considering not many people play The Twins in the first place.

It's just not as satisfying as it used to be. I love the new animations don't get me wrong but all the little things about the old animations I miss
The nostalgia of it all :( Seems like it was only yester- oh ya.. it was yesterday.
-
The new crouching animation isn't bad & I actually like it compared to the old one. When it comes to tbagging, I don't think the new animation did much harm. It does look a bit wonkier though.
-
@Slendy4321 said:
Not really. Hate how we can't nod to the other Survivors anymore. Used to have fun nodding when a teammate would miss a skill check and they would tbag in result. It just doesn't have the same effect with these new animations
What do you mean? They made nodding a whole lot easier with this update (don't know why lol). I barely have to move my thumbstick to do it now.

Nah I will not give up, it's just sad that probably exactly these people are also complaining about the Queue times because nobody plays killer anymore.
You really hit the nail on the head with that one, welcome to the DBD community lol
-
The intent of this update wasn't to "nerf survivors". It was supposedly supposed to make animations more realistic & flow smoother even though it did completely the opposite & added atrocious hitboxes. They'll have to fix this soon before they lose their whole player-base.
Oh yeah, they're nerfing both sides when it comes to perks. Undying for DS, get over it.
-
@Mineguy said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1929988#Comment_1929988
But why? I'm not good and they know they will win.
Survivors love to bully new killers, it's as simple as that. If you didn't think winning was enough, they usually feel the need to shove it in your face as well. It's a sad truth & I really hope you don't give up killer just because they decided to be jerks, since a lot of people do.
Just learn how survivors do their routing & make sure you pressure everyone efficiently. As long as you do that, you'll definitely get better.
-
Survivors usually do this to mock you and try to make you tilted. This is because if you're titled, you're more prone to playing worse & throwing the game chasing one survivor the entire time. The same thing could be said for flashlight clicking.
The only time tbagging isn't seen as toxic is if the survivor is trying to be friendly (ex. standing out in the open and tbagging, or them being the last survivor & they're trying to get your mercy). Just remember not to get mad at it, because you're falling into their little trap if you do.
Oh yeah, don't be afraid to give em a slap on the hook to repay them the favor if they do that to you (:
-
I personally like the animations for walking, running & crawling. As for the idle stance.. my god does that look awful lol. You literally look like a smooshed pancake.
Not to mention, you can barely 360/swerve side to side now, which definitely sucks.
-
Although the portraits & hook counters are nice, I think the UI is a mess overall & definitely either needs to be tweaked or reverted completely.
-
@Slendy4321 said:
I don't get why they're changing ######### that doesn't need to be changed. I'm pretty confident I can say this ABSOLUTELY NOBODY WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE UI
Yet they wasted time and money to input this dog ######### UI
Yeah, I honestly don't know why they did this. I mean, I'll give em props for trying to try something new but the fact that it doesn't seem like they are listening to their playerbase is disappointing.
Though I will say that @Phasmamain is right, the portraits & hook counter is a really nice touch.
-
The biggest problem with the UI imo is how small the struggle/mending bar is. Not only is it at the tippy top of your screen, but it is also 10x smaller than the original. I've accidently let one of my teammates die on hook because I couldn't see the timer due to how small it was.
-
Keys are definitely a problem & need to be reworked, but I don't think taking Hatch out of the equation is going to solve anything. All the devs need to do is add an animation of unlocking the hatch so the killer has a fighting chance at stopping the survivors in their tracks. Unlike chests, it should not save your progress of opening it either.

Saldly you have fallen into the trap. We aren’t getting any say into anything lol. The horrible UI is in the game now. That’s all they cared about. To remove it means clearing the move with all the platforms.
That wasn't what I meant. The idea of having a say in something is cool, even if that's not actually the case. Console players have been ignored for the longest time.
With that being said, they'll most likely have to remove this UI eventually or they will lose a lot of players. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't care, but it is what it is.
-
@Mister_xD said:
no, they just wont believe the UI is bad until they get screamed at by the console players aswell.
because "they had no PTB to test it out" - which is true, but honestly, you dont need to play a PTB to be able to tell a graphical update is going to suck.
you can always just watch others play it / look at the shared screenshots.
I mean, it is kind-of cool to finally get a say in something. Us console players don't have a PTB therefore the PC players are usually the ones that have more control. Though I will say, nobody asked for a new UI & I have no idea why they decided to change something that didn't need to be changed.
-
There is only one build for solo queue:
Every Man For Themselves: Dead Hard + Decisive + Adrenaline + Iron Will (replace Adrenaline for Left Behind & a key if you want a true rely-on-yourself experience).
Tired of relying on teammates & their incompetence? Have a backup plan😎
-
Depends on the situation imo.
If the killer uses NOED to their advantage & punishes cocky survivors at the endgame who think they've already won, I'd say they got outplayed.
If the killer is camping somebody & slugs the potential saviors with NOED, while it can still be considered an outplay, I personally wouldn't see it as one.
This is because I see the first option as a backup plan & I see the second option as a second-chance. But that's just me.

The Oni has caught my attention recently, mainly because he seems to be near the top of most tier lists, yet surprisingly he doesn’t seem to be played much. Rn my top contenders are the nurse, spirit, and the Oni because all 3 have amazing map mobility (the thing that I liked most about both blight and Freddy) and the ability to be competitively viable. Do you personally think there’s a high skill ceiling to Oni? The main reason I want a killer with a high skill ceiling is because I want to be able to learn cool plays with them even after playing them for many hours. If Freddy has this option after his upcoming nerf I would happily keep playing him, but I would be very surprised if he gets a rework of that nature.
Oni is definitely hard to play, but not as much as people lead him out to be.
It honestly depends on what you're going for. With basic knowledge & game sense, managing his Blood Fury is a piece of cake. What intimidates people the most, is his ability to flick. This is the key to mastering him & making insane plays.
Remember when I said "Though I'd recommend not activating it in jungle gyms unless you're confident"? This is because in order to counter jungle gym loops, you have to know how to mindgame survivors into a flick. Oni's Blood Fury is obviously very good at punishing survivors out of position, but when it comes down to safety nets, you have to most likely had mastered the basics of his kit & put decent hours into him already. He isn't as hard as Billy imo, but that doesn't mean he isn't prone to hitting objects. Practice practice practice!
Not to mention, an anti-healing build (Nurses + Sloppy) on Oni is very efficient given the fact that survivors being injured gives him his power. Oh yeah, don't forget that Oni is the best snowballer in the game. Use Infectious Fright & go to town (mainly for when you're losing control of the game).
Monto is really good at Oni & I think you should watch him for inspiration if you need it. Here ya go:

But.. I'd rather use Ace in the Hole to find a key & screw you all over.. every man for themselves, right?
Listen, I'll just be straight-forward with you.. if I see a chest, I call dibs. Simple as that.
-
Yup, I've vouched for this idea before & will proudly do it again because it would actually make DBD fun again in terms of "diversity". I would personally make this a limited time gamemode (either certain days of the week or certain events).
Another idea for a gamemode is literally Hide & Seek. Survivors all have the exposed status effect, can only play the original survivors & have to survive 5 minutes of stealth to win. Of course this can be tweaked.
-
It honestly depends on the type of playstyle you're going for, because while some killers can be strong, you may find them boring to play (ex. Freddy).
I'd personally recommend Oni, here's why:
- Since you like to play Blight & transverse the map easily, I think you'd like Oni because he does the exact same thing but better. Once you earn his power (2 hits), you can do exactly that without playing pinball (Blight) & without worrying about bumping into stuff (Billy). Not to mention, you get free instadowns.
- Oni is a really good killer for pressure & does superb at high ranks. You shouldn't worry about underperforming with him as long as you're playing him to the best of your ability. His Blood Fury is extremely easy to master & a lot of times catches people out-positioned. Though I'd recommend not activating it in jungle gyms unless you're confident.
Even if you don't try out Oni now, atleast give him a shot in the future. There is no doubt in my mind that you'll be disappointed.
-
It's definitely frustrating to get a penalty for disconnecting even if it wasn't your fault, but you have to understand that there is more intentional DC's than not, so they need to have this feature to cater to the majority.
I remember when I had satellite internet in the past, boy oh boy was getting a penalty every single match fun. I eventually just stopped playing anything online until we switched back to cable lol
-
The only decent change to the new UI is the portraits. Other than that, I have literally not seen a single person complain about the UI ever which makes me wonder why the hell they thought they needed to change it.
I mean sure, maybe they wanted to be innovative & make the game look more "sleek", but nobody asked for this. Nobody.
