Out of curiosity, how does the playerbase define a win as a survivor or a killer?

I find that as a newbie killer, I don't really care about getting 4ks outside of rift challenges and adept trophies. So I define a "Win" by how much fun I had in the match. How good were my chases/mindgames. How many people I downed. Often my 4k matches, the survivors still leave the trial with 20K bloodpoints.

As a very slightly more experienced survivor, I judge a win by a similar criteria of how much fun I had in chase. Escape is often the cherry on top. If I can get a couple of good chases, a couple of unhooks, and a gen or two, and I had fun, I count that as win.

    How about everyone else?

1 or 2 pips is a win for me

  • You use Tampered Timer and Crate of Gears to make your RBT very deadly (especially on Racoon City map).

The other one is to use Combat Straps and second slot whatever you want for better stealth play.

The other games are not asymmetrical survival horror games, and this game is not a shooter nor a party game

This game is not designed to be played with VC, and the results are evident

why not? is it written somewhere in rules?

  • I see map users quite often since there is Hex meta recently and a lot of bad killers with noed.

I pick up map very often

SWFs are fair, voice chat softwares are not

If voice chat is fair why do stealth killers or perks like tinkerer kindred or bond even exist?

VC is the real problem here and it isn't fair if it isn't an official feature

######### is this statement? VC exist in any game and because almost any gamer uses discord and/or teamspeak or whatever it is almost never imolemented in the game itself.

Seeing how toxic is end game chat or other games who suffer from in-game chat (Overwatch) its better to have external one

  • But you can already do it with addon to the map or 2 perks.

Its just ranking system that gives rank 12-17 to purple/red ranks and those players just croach whole fking game

  • Video proves you need better internet provider

  • @Ruma said:

The killer needs 2 secs to kick a gen...

    How is this fair?

Generators are already regression at only 0,25 c/s while survivors repair 1 c/s!

I MAY COULD be okey with that but its soooo unfair killers need 2 seconds to kick a gen while survivors only need 0,001 seconds to touch it.

Everyone who seriously thinks this is fair.. Tell me how you justify it.

wow, you dont have to kick it. get that ass who touches the gen smartass

  • I doubt you get a lot of 4man SWF, its mostly 2man squad.

How do devs can nerf SWF? markibg communication apps as hacks?

  • This is bullshit .

Stats all across the board. We all know already that Spirit is hard to master but when its done she's best killer , same with Spirit. Low rank players just lower her k/d ratio because they have to learn those killer in ranking games!

Pig traps are very easy to do, just RMB when survivor is down and that it. Other survivors does not have any idea how it works yet thats why it works all for itself (traps). Thats why she has so high K/D

    Very freaking simple.

Pig needs addons rework and RNG rework and thats it. The only way pig is OP is when she is on the Racoon City map which is very hard to navigate and uses Tampered Timer and Crate of Gears.

8/10 I can take trap off in the very first try though. After all gens are done her power is nothing. EGC should activate rest of inactive RBT's

  • She should be able to oink survivors when in stealth mode. Also her addons are total crap. Nobody uses pink ones just few violet and one common for crouch time.

Tweak her addons and she's gonna be allright!

  • Someone tries his post goes viral xD

No smash hit aint good. killer will mind game you, you dont stun him , bye bye, no haste. Pallets are mostly used to take bloodlust off the killer

  • This system is good. It is ping where problem lies. I dont see many animation issues when all players have stable low ping

  • I dont mind NOED at all as I check totems and usually play with map in game due to huge amount of Hex:Ruin and/or NOED.

What disgusting is about NOED is killer players theirselves. They almost allow to finish all gens, defending their totem at all costs, then when they have access to noed buff they down one and camp him until other comes to try to help him.

Now, if you have good survivors everyone goes look for a totem , if not they mostly lose their lifes to that killer -> he gets PIP , he ranks up and makes high tier matches a GARBAGE.

Those kinds of matches are very boring - killer is not challenging at all, you can loop him while having a shower or eating a dinner.

The killer is 99% relying on NOED if:

    • high rank and still cant catch ppl on loops
    • never breaks a chase to stop gens being done
    • defending noed totem at all cost
    • not caring about gens at all
    • simply bad behaviour overall
    • camping and tunneling

    End game chat excuse:

    • "you gen rushed me so i tunneled at camped" (since beginning of the game, yeah)

How to make his life miserable:

    • check for totems when going from gen to gen
    • if somehow you cant find noed totem, sacrifice the poor guy and leave - do not let him get more points

    Amen

  • Killer with Frankling: 99% having noed, plays bad, waits for noed to be activated

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

Glad this was your experience. For me Pig is the least enjoyable killer to play against due to the playerbase. Just the day before yesterday I faced TWO in a row using Tampered Timer + Crate of Gears and both had the same playstyle. They'd follow me around in stealth with the trap active, immediately chase me off once I started searching a box and then leave me for another survivor. On the first match I managed to get lucky and got my trap off on my first box, but on the second I couldn't even finish my second search before dying on Midwich.

I wouldn't really mind if Pig got nerfed again tbh, getting outplayed by RNG is disgusting. And Pig players for some reason always resort to this same playstyle (probably why she has a high kill rate).

Never had such an issue with pig killer tbh. You were very unlucky

It drives me nuts when people claim 'SWF does not do much!'

That claim is actively ignoring the fact that this game is built around Survivors lacking information:

    1. Not knowing who the Killer is at first (Not knowing to avoid Trapper's traps until you see him. This stops happening in a SWF group; one person sees Trapper, everyone knows to watch their feet.)
    2. Totems. In a non-SWF; one person seeing your totem means one person knows where it is. In a SWF; one person seeing a totem means everyone in the SWF knows where it is.
    3. Camping/Perks like Insidious. No SWF: Can hide near the hook & ambush. SWF: "The Killer went behind the wall to my left and stopped. Be careful there.'
    4. Gens, or saving your friend? No SWF: 'I don't know if anyone else is going for the save!' (Three people end up near the hook, meaning no one is on gens). SWF: 'This gen is at 70%, so I'll keep working while you go save the guy on the hook.' (The Killer has now lost the pressure hooking a Survivor is supposed to give him.)
    5. End Game Risks. Non-SWF: I COULD go save that guy, but if I get downed afterwards; will he save me? Should I just leave? SWF: I will save you, so keep struggling. And I know our third SWF buddy will save me if I go down.
    6. Killer Activity. In a Non-SWF: If you can't see the Killer, you don't know what he's doing until you hear his TR. This allows him to find your scratch marks as you run away. In a SWF: 'The Killer just kicked my gen, now he's heading towards you, Bill. Bail early! (So he does not see scratch marks, does not know a Survivor is near, & thus cannot apply pressure.

And this is not listing each and every Killer power or perk that is rendered useless, or close to useless, when SWFs have voice comms.

There's a reason the Survivors lack voice callouts like 'Totem Here!': It's because they're supposed to be scared to make any noise. This hinders them and, by extension, the player. You're supposed to be alone with 3 teammates who don't know if they can trust you to have their back, or vice versa.

All that goes out the window with SWF. Even the most casual people will still make callouts, usually without thinking about it, because they want to help their friends.

So don't give me the overused 'Not every SWF is a sweat squad!' Because, while true, even CASUAL SWF squads will have so much power over the Killer that the Killer will feel the pressure.

The bottom line, and this is an unarguable fact, is that SWFs are obscenely broken and not how the game was ever meant to be played. This is evidenced by everything I said above, a number of perks and Killer powers, and the fact that SWFs did not exist at the start.

So just make it a separate mode, so the game can be played like it's supposed to be.

I bet you are below average killer. SWF is pretty awesome as you can coop to win.

Killer on the other hand must play skillfully to win.

    So

    • if you looping with surv and you dont see surrounding (3 others making gen) you are bad killer
    • you are not breaking from chase until you catch him - you are bad killer
    • no mindgames while looping - bad bad bad

And more. There is big discrepancy in skill - violet ranking and even red.

Some killers with high ranking are so stupid I can do my gen 10m away from them and they cant hear! I hide in a bush with freaking Feng who sounds so loud when injured and they cant find me.

The other one are so good, pre active and aware that it makes hard to make my job as surv.

I think just get better and dont blame SWF. Thanks to them game is somewhat challenging

  • Do you even care to try to read end game chat? I almost forget it exists.

If one is trying to piss me off I know I win more than a game :)

  • Claire's sound is awful as hell. Im lucky Im playing with headphones not a speakers... if you know what I mean.

  • She should be able to catch people at gens while stealthed just like Ghostface for example.

And addons rework as she has maybe 4 useful addons, rest is total crap and waste slots

  • Noed is fine. I simply run map 90% of my matches as there is always a killer with at least ruin or both.

If you ignore it then you get simply punished.

You can easily tell killer has noed when he plays fking bad and you can easily genrush. he is waiting for last gen to be finished, hook the very first one and waits for others to come to him

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2364529#Comment_2364529

No, actually. Stop with these hypotheticals. I do just fine and nearly never tunnel or camp, but when I’m having a poor game and I need some sort of pressure, hell yeah I will!

Played maybe 10-12 games today as killer, don’t remember camping or tunneling once. I just remember ending the game way before they got the chance to escape. Plus, if I were that type of killer, I wouldn’t be red ranks right now. I’d be hardstuck because you don’t pip like that.

So yeah, I think I fair just fine without these “strategies” I previously mentioned, but there are times where I tunnel (At 1 or 2 gens left to create some sort of pressure, and only if I’ve got like 1 or 2 hooks or none at all). or camp (In the situation where everything’s repaired, exit gates are open, and I want a kill). Plenty of ways to go about saving that survivor.

And last but not least, if you could read the actual content of my post correctly, you’d obviously see that I don’t really care at all about gen rushing because there’s perks to counter that, just like there’s perks that deal with tunneling and camping. Yet again, another individual who fails to read the very last paragraph of my post which completely is the opposite of that of what you’re saying.

Anyways, I’m tired of arguing with the “you’re that type of killer”. It’s obvious that they and you don’t read the actual body of text because of your ignorance. I’m ending my side of the discussion here.

but when I’m having a poor game and I need some sort of pressure, hell yeah I will!

Yep it is said , just in your own words :)

  • I use perk Windows of Opportunity. Its insanely good at this point. When you are looping killer you can already plan your next move.

  • Its simply tactic. Why should survivor limit himself by starting EGC? Mostly then happens camping situation - killer has one prey and knows that within 1min will come comrades to help him.

And as stated earlier you can begin it yourself if you wish.

There is ni flow in this matter. Simple tactic.

  • My tactis is either to stand near a pallet or window if I see him following me.

He usually gets stunned when tries to lunge at me (sometimes I get bhvrd and get injured anyway) or I outsprint him with Spring Burst (you need to make sure he will uncloack completelt).

Always make sure you are running toward next loop window if you see him cloacking again.

90% of wraith relies on their fast and long lunge attack

  • @TheGorgon said:

I don’t understand people’s mindset nowadays. DBD is marketed as an asymmetrical PvP Horror game. Both sides have different goals and they have to reach their goals to win.

As a Killer, I’m supposed to guarantee you to leave the match dead. As a Survivor, I’m supposed to leave the game via exiting the exit gates.

I happen to come across some laughable and to be Frank, popular unreasonable criticism. It sounds selfish, but as a killer, I do not need to meet your rules. I never ever read your personal ToS and agreed to it right before the game started.

My job is to kill you. I don’t care if you don’t like me tunneling or camping during one time or another. It’s admittedly an optimal strategy since it helps me reach my final goal.

I don’t like being tunneled or camped either, but sometimes the killer needs to do it to get the upper hand, which is absolutely understandable. So yeah, I dislike many things in DBD, but it doesn’t mean I need to obey or satisfy the other side.

Just thought I had to get this off, since many people are under the impression that camping and tunneling are super cowardly strategies, when they’re in fact very optimal strategies that are required in many situations to win.

Last but not least, a couple of the issues people have with DBD are from their ego’s being recently hurt, not actual core issues within the game itself, I.E Camping & Tunneling. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean there’s anything particularly wrong with it.

Genrush away, it’s your goal after all. I have perks and add-ons to try to slow down that process that is required for you to win, just like you do for camping & tunneling. To both sides, stop verbally abusing people in the post-match chat and realize that putting arbitrary rules on the other side is simply silly & stupid.

EDIT: Since so many people are taking the post the wrong way, I need to clarify something: The only time I would condone and tunnel/camp someone is when the game is blowing by and I need to get some pressure on the survivors. Getting one person out of the game is favorable at 1 or 2 gens left.

You are propably THE kind of killer who cant put a pressure on survivors and then when you have one hook and all gens are done you face camp poor dude with an idea that survivors will try to rescue them en you noed them all.

So cut your crap about justyfing tunnelling and camping. These are by killers who cant event play tactically pr chase one guy and ignore all gens which are beibg repaired 5m from him.

And then he cries "your fault, you were gen rushing!"

  • @KY___100 said:

Primarily addressing killers for the "what would you do here" question. This killer decided to go along with it and let them farm me.

BTW, this was the very start of the game and I had never even seen the other survivors or killer until they body blocked and then t-bagged me, so absolutely unprovoked. SO frustrating and demotivating...🙃

Why even bother? When surv is an ######### to me as Killer I just catch him off guard and once hes on the hook Im doing my stuff NEAR him. I usually get a second hook stake for the #########. If he is still an idiot I just tunnel him (unless he is good looper I catch him off guard again)

    Easy

  • This game is not meant to be for sweaty people as it is now.

Red ranks plays with green or lower, killer rank is also not suitable.

This game is more fun than serious game. What your rant is for anyway?

  • Just go dude.

This game is so easy and I barely see problem with tunnelling or slugging or whatever.

Its mostly on lower ranks where newcomers learn how to play killer and they dont mean to tunnel/slug anyway.

How come you lost 15 matches in a row? were you playing 3 am hmt+1 or what?

  • @supersonic853 said:

For instance had a survivor as claud in my last game as doc where i downed and hooked 2 people and just because she hates facing docs she refused to unhook either of them while i was chasing the 3rd. So i slugged him found and downed her and made her die on hook and gave her teammate the hatch. Theres other games where a survivor will just run at me if im like slinger and want me to kill them so i just slug them and go look for someone else. Maybe its just im a 50/50 but i feel like both sides hate these kinds of people. If you que up to the game play it to the fullest don't ruin everyone elses experience because you dislike what happens. I'll usually kill the thrower though and go alittle easier on the rest of the team. Its not their fault for a teammates selfishness. Just wanted to see how other people handled these types of players.

You cant fix it. If one refuse to play there is little to do.

Same goes with tunneling, camping etc.

I just hook them and thats it. If I were a killer in such match I would try to farm with rest of them to gain benefits for both sides and hook the guy after slugging him long enough.

Such people doesnt care about losing pips (they are so easy to get anyway) but seeing others to win and them not - thats different story

Bro, I love it when a survivor is being entitled. I was in a chase with a Ying one game and while I was chasing, David ran by with a RBT on his head, I tried to wack him to spook him off but I missed and continued with Ying, 30 seconds later mid chase, I see him on a box so I walk over to him and ditch the chase to wack him. When I did hit him, he jumped off the box and pointed at me then jumped back on the box. I stared for a moment then grabbed him off. He then disconnected.

    ######### entitlement man.

Yeah that what I meant. Im surv main , 99% of my hours in game are as survivor but I understand fully that rbt does not give me a free-to-go card even at the nose of Pig. But many people feels so entitled when wearing new hat

Also boop the snoot is bad thing when everyone tries it one minute after trial starts and they realise its The Pig...

  • @indieeden7 said:

The entire point of the ability is to stall, it isn't supposed to help you get a guaranteed kill. Also, if you're using the power to tunnel, you're using it incorrectly, chasing a person with a trap means that you aren't allowing that survivor to stall the game while everyone else is on gens.

You can actually use Pig's power for kills if rng is on your side and you ise two certain addons.

Usually survivors cries about pig being tunneler when they think they are entitled to examine a chest in front of the killer.

I always spook them when they do it but they claim ita tunnelling - ridiculous.

  • If killer is Spirit or Nurse im out

  • @akanadi said:

why? whats the point running a killer there doesnt make you good, and if you are bad you arent learning anything from it, and its funny because most of the ppl who bring haddonfield complain about camping and tunneling, haddonfield is how to tell me youre insecure about your skill without telling me youre insecure.

seems like you are a very bad killer if you cry about certain map.

now im gonna use haddonfield all the time to piss more ppl like you.

    get gud

  • It mostly deletes item when you vault. Seems like game does not know where to place the item.

  • You cant do anything about that. It was one who wanted to secure head pop.

I would simply carry on. This game require some fairness from killer and some people have none

  • Its simple. Bored.

Its so easy once you learn DBD mechanic to keep your surv/killer rank even when trolling or face camping.

I see more tunnelers in higher rank as red rank is final and you dont need to work harder for anything else.

Having rank 1 is as good as 4 - even red rank can play with as low as 16 and you have no challenge at all.

I am survivor main aswel and when I see camper and dont even care - I wait till i get 3 hook state and rest can escape.

Second reason is to get as many negative comments as possible. People think that giving someone bad comment affects them in any way - mostly they collect it and love it ;) I would love it aswel. You can beat people mentally and thats how you do it. Killing mentally

  • You need to play several metches without disconmect

  • wouldnt you dodge lobby when you see ranks 20, 19, 12 while you sit at rank 2? sure you would

  • @ZombieEPx said:

I play in red rank survivor solo que, and for some reason the game keeps giving me people ranked anywhere from 9 to 16. Most of these players don't seem to even have a clue how to play the game, meanwhile the killer is like a rank 2 with meta slow down perks. My last 3 games in a row were this exactly and im just curious, where is the balance? This isn't enjoyable and isn't even slightly balanced the team mates are normally poor quality as it is since red ranks doesn't measure skill, but throwing in green and yellow ranks is a whole other level of terrible.

They said matchmaking tries to get players of your skill.

So at 5pm you have skill of red ranks and around 8pm-24pm you are areound green rank skill :D

Anyway. I have the same issue. So i dont play dbd after 8pm because I get such a survivors and they cant even loop killer for 5sec and then they disconnect. waste of pips

  • well.. 9 out of 10 matches killer has Hex:Ruin so what do you expect

They're pretty much all over the place and feel like they heavily inflate the reviews this game should have.

Then you have an entire essays of negative reviews where people have played for thousands of hours and start pouring out their anger and frustration with BHVR, at the very least, with the recent update.

    ------

well steam opinions are the only way to push devs to put some effort into their work and actually listen to community.

Bad comments = less new ppl, less money.

I watched stream and well... they sounded very rude like the patch goes on no matter what - nobody knows anymore what ptb is for.

I like this game but since this patch is very unplayable for survivor mains.

PS: How many people work in Behavior? 3? a little more?

  • @Dragonshensi said:

Even with the desync issues I can barely catch up to or hit any survivors. Killers feel like they have a ball and chain wrapped around their feet and are so slow. After getting infinite looped for awhile I just stopped and let the survivors just go. Of course they decided to taunt and tbag and wouldn’t leave. Once the desync issues are fixed honestly survivors have nothing to complain about. Most Killers have to go hard and aggressive right from the get go or else get gen rushed before they even find someone. Most killers seem to have been nerfed to the point you can just laugh at them, which now most survivors do. It’s just depressing really the sorry state of this game. Nothing about the Killers feels right and I can’t even get one kill lately. If the survivors are only halfway decent they can run roughshot over killers. I was mostly a survivor main but have been trying out killer lately. It’s not fun really. Just stressful and all around toxic.

you are most propably one of the killer who just chase one surv till you catch him ignoring othere who repair gens because why not right?

And then you face camp once you finally caught the to get 'at least 1k' ...

Try to be smarter killer and you gonna win more.

Ibsee many killere who play like a bot - from one loop to another, from a pallet to pallet. No sudden tactics, moonwalks . Killers have been gone lazy thanks to desync issue

  • I think they didnt check how many players play pig. You can count 100 plays and get high k/d ratio but nurse for example is played by insane amount of people where there is a lot of noobs trying to play op killer thus lowering stats.

Those small changes would make it more interesting:

    • jigsaw boxes always their aura not visible when trap is NOT activated
    • opening gates will turn inactive RBT on
    • skill check lowering as the time passes (like a PH cages in second stage)
    • key is with certain chance to obtain (last box with 100%) - its so easy to get it off with just first jigsaw box

Out of 10 matches I have 5 nurses, 2 wraith and 1 legion - for the rest is usually one of the killers not played that much - i cant find pig very often in ranks 1-10. Small buffs would make this funny killer more playable.

Too many times I've seen survivors getting hooked in a short time because they all ran off to save just one guy who wasn't smart enough not to get caught in the first place and wasn't smart enough to stop being a bait on the hook. well thats the issue I see a lot of time. Unfortunately this is simply survivors who dont give a #########/are newbies still. Sometimes it feels like ranks are way to easy achievable especially up to rank 8...

A Killer that camps a hook but criticizes suicide on hook is not being hypocritical.

A Killer camping a hook is still doing his objective. A Survivor that suicides on hook is actually sabotaging their objective AND the objective for three other people. The two things could not be more different.

a killer camping a hook is doing his objective? I think it's lowest level possible of thinking which I never understand but let it be though. I hope not many people are thinking just like you.

After all its a game which should be fun for both parties, or not? Whatever, do your thing, I will do mine

How the **** is camping and tunneling 'abusive'

    What a joke statement

I don't camp and i ll slug the survivor that was just dive bombed if they run in front of me when I get back to the hook. Camping and tunneling are strategic, not abusive.

looks like you are ######### killer then. there's nothing strategic if you focus on single one which you just hooked ignoring all others. DS was giving like 30sec - 60sec more time, killer is always going for such a prey anyway. it just let you to get some points to 'stay' within same rank/pip amount.

I see a lot of killer with private steam profile otherwise it will be all -rep. it must hurt players to stop camping otherwise it's just pretty normal atm in dbd to camp/slug/tunnel

maybe we should all go play killers and quit trying to survive ;)
