I think those percentages are probably exactly how they need to be. If behavior is shooting for a 40% escape rate to go along with the horror theme of the game, then that seems fine for new to average players. Many of them are probably still experiencing that aspect of the game.
A higher escape rate at high MMR makes sense to me. Most of those people are well past the horror part of the game. A 50/50 balance at that level would be where I think it should be.
This is just my opinion of course.
a 50/50 balance is impossible in a 1vs4.

I dont want BHVR, of all companies, to police me playing with friends. That sounds ridicilous and highly irritating!
But i also disagree with all the people that claim SWF isnt that much more busted than SoloQ. There is a huge, undeniable gap alone due to the fact that people can call out the killers position at any time. Solos cant do that. -

My personal PSA would be to stop 99%ing doors. Nothing annoys me more as a Survivor being chased than a door being 99'ed and then them leaving to try and find me, as I run to the door.
But this is about leaving when the doors are open. Pls do not derail the thread.

There are ways to force the people into normal gameplay when they are trying to force you into farming.
Against killers: Just spam vault a window or a pallett, they might be able to ignore it for a while but no killer will let you do this the whole time.
Against survivors: Well.. Just hook them lol.
Personally i dont mind farming matches, it depends on my challenges. Some are only possible by farming actually, while others get completely nullified by farming, so if its either one or the other, i get mad or excited about it accordingly.. I doubt you have these farming matches THAT often though. In low mmr its maybe a little higher as there is also alot of smurfs, but it should be hard to differ between just clueless and actually farming players. But on my main high mmr acc, i havent seen farming in ages. -
Instead of pointing fingers at each other we need to look why the things are how they are.
1) Win conditions are bound to be sweaty in this game. A killer is conditioned to kill all survivors, to make things easyer they will resort to rush it and get 1 out early,
2) Survivors are conditioned to do the gens because.. well what else they gonna do? In soloQ you barely escape because you compete with 4 other people to survive. Agains the killer but also the teammates, a killer WILL gett one or even 2 kills, period. Because if it were less than that, it would mean the balance is highly in the survivors side, but from the single survivors perspective its a loss even though 2 or 3 other people escaped.
3) This game is involving alot of RNG, is not symmetrical (no equal big teams) and has far too many random factors that can be out of your control, perks seem to overwrite skill in this game and maps can do this aswell. Hence why "loosing" feels especcially bad when you know you played well but you dont get rewarded because now the killer had NOED and got a surprise attack on you, or because the hatch opened right in front of the last survivor, why killers do 'the slugging for the 4k' thing.
4) Add MMR in a limitted player pool on top of this and now we know why there is so much frustration around at times.
So my general message, if you want to blame, pls dont blame the other player. They are just adapting to the environment that has been created by the developers. Obviously give them (the devs) constructive criticism, this is not a call to flame the developers, before anyone puts words in my mouth again. But its objectively true that the game has been pushed into a certain way by the devs and it will remain in this way for now, until we find a diffrent solution. -

That's not why they're doing it, though.
Your average player isn't rage quitting nearly enough for it to be a problem. I can count on one hand the amount of times I have witnessed someone attempting to give up on first hook in 1600 hours of total playtime.
The goal isn't reducing the likelihood that your average player will rage quit, because your average player might rage quit once out of a hundred games. The goal is to reduce the occurrence of rage quitting, which just isn't feasible if you don't understand why people are doing it to begin with.
It being easy to bypass the DC penalty fails to explain any sort of reasoning behind why survivors are choosing to end their match early.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3764355#Comment_3764355
It would be easier for them to simply not play, so that just doesn't add up. Clearly these people still want to play the game, but there's some reason they don't want to participate in certain matches.
Okay yeah im with you on that, i dont want ragequitters in my lobbys either. And i dont see a working system at all either, easyest solution would be to just straight up remove the dc penalty, bots are 1000 times better than ragequitters. For both sides even. Its not fun to have someone give up every game and scewing my MMR. And its quite boring to play killer that way. Even the bots put up more effort all though they are not too hard to catch either. But definitly better than somone hookiciding where i get almost no points.
Nedless to say how much bots would improve survivor teammates experience compared to ragequitters. -
@Kaitsja said:

Normal gameplay just refers to the normal gameplay loop. So long as all players are able to participate in it, it is normal gameplay.
You cannot guarantee that the players you are matched with will choose to participate. Ideally, all the players you are matched with will participate in normal gameplay. Hence why it's ideal gameplay.
If the DC penalty exists to make less people suffer from abnormal matches as you claim, why then do we still have DC penalties with bots able to replace survivors who DC? It exists to punish players for leaving matches they queued up for.
Again, you cannot force players to participate if they don't want to. Trying to do so will not have the desired results, and will just end up with people finding alternative ways of circumventing the system.
are you advocating for rage quitting then?

@Kaitsja said:

It's not the same thing at all. Someone being facecamped to death was unable to do anything but sit on the hook and stare at the killer. That doesn't constitute normal gameplay.
Being hooked is part of normal gameplay, being camped to death is not. That's why there's a mechanic to prevent it. Pretty simple stuff.
When someone gives up on first hook, they aren't preventing the rest of the lobby from participating in normal gameplay. They've only reduced the team's chance of winning.
"they have only reduced the teams chance at winning" → makes it not a normal gameplay.

BUT hey part of the game right, the reason survivor queues are so long. Solo queue survivors are losing reasons to keep playing this game.
so you admit to rage quitting?

Only when we get for killers something simmilar. Like when 4 gens or 3 gens are completet but the killer has only 1 to 3 hooks, then every survivor gets a hook state automaticly added. To keep things fair for BOTH sides.

The difference is that it isn't the same person each time. Killa Whale did a survey of his audience a while ago, and the average people only like playing against ~60% of the Killers.
The thing is, you have to roll the dice 4 total times, to figure out if someone doesn't like the Killer. That gives you the Killer unique percentages seen in the bottom of the picture.
so this means they hate over a quarter of the killer rooster. Thats further proof the game aint for them no more. People that dont enjoy a huge chunk of the killers should not play it.
And the 60% is an average, i bet the people that dont mind most of the killers are tanking while there is alot of people that despise more than half of the rooster. -

Your example almost makes sense, but you've missed it a little.
You're into martial arts. Unfortunately, the only martial arts place around is extremely ######### to its members, doesn't offer any teaching and usually engages in multiple toxic behaviors. They have essentially cornered the market and are now the only martial arts place available, with the others no longer able to compete due to the massive head start said company had.
Your options are either to give up martial arts, which you love; or continue to suffer through a toxic and unhealthy environment due to a lack of alternatives.
That, ultimately, is why people stay with DBD. There's nothing else out there except for mostly dead games who are usually populated by other DBD players desperate for something not called DBD
Oh having a bad martial arts gym and no other miles away would be horrible.
But if i were to somehow come to a point tomorrow where i simply cant enjoy dbd anymore, then there is a BULK of games in my steam library desperately waiting to get played finally. Its not like people can only enjoy one genre in the full gaming space. -

But i believe its about being downed in the first place, when 5 gens are still up "ohh we will loose this game because he got me so fast" and then they will make their statement true with their own actions by giving up early. -

To be honest, I think that's a very black-and-white way to look at a very gray issue. People are unhappy with the game in its current state, and based on past experiences, you can change the current state by "boycotting" like this. This method, while flawed, does push for change. Honestly, it feels like only when things are routinely "abused" in the game do big changes happen. It's a terrible method, but it gets results.
No its very simple, there is tons of people that would want to enjoy the game without griefers, if you quit out of any reason prematurely you are one of those griefers.
The only argument i will accept as valid for "rage quiting" is real life emergency, but that isnt really rage quitting then. And there is a forum right here, tons of suggestions and feedback every day. THAT is the way to handle a game you enjoy and love playing, but if its so far that you gotta ragequit every single match (there ARE ragequitters every single match in my games) then thats a sign this game aint for you anymore. So why playing still?
Its like im a martial arts guy, i love muay thai and i want to go back to it when i find more time again. I hate fitness studios, its just boring to me. If i were to decide to go to a fitness studio and just complain why they dont have punching bags and no ring, you know. then i would be the equivalent of DBD ragequitters. -

Well, I don't have their POV but most of the time I see why they 4%ed a few minutes later. - Be that a killer with ping/lag getting the most ridiculous hits, them going for a drawn out three gen, doing a very "funny" build/strategy or them seeing on hook that teamy X is crouching behind a rock for no reason.
But like I said; give it a PTB/live test and we'll see what happens. Imo the best option to test the waters and see if "doing something about 4%ing" actually achieves anything.
well from my POV none of the excuses you mentioned did happen. Because the first one to be downed mostly wants to ragequit.

what I'm saying is there a bigger chance for the killer sticking it out more then survivors on a losing game.

first 60 seconds? are you in low mmr? Thats not my experience at all, at 60 seconds the game could swing into pretty much every direction most of the time.
It is due to 4% giving up ofc, that games tend to get very easy for killers, as you are 3 people taking the game seriously and then 1 person throwing because they got hooked first. -

I with you on the bot thing but get rid of the DC penalty for both or don't bother.
Would you enjoy almost escaping and then the match is just over before you reached the door? because the killer just pushed the leave button?

While I don't support players quitting early because it messes up other people's games, it's really strange to me that this behavior is often always dismissed as, "Oh, those players are just entitled babies" The fact that early quitting is such a common issue should be a cause for concern. Disregarding it as the actions of nothing but entitled players is a clever way to ignore why people do it, and can be used as a scapegoat instead of focusing/discussing the possible underlying issues that are leaving so many players unhappy.
And again, I don't condone quitting early, but this community often insists that you should play the game however you want, regardless of how it affects others. I'll add as well that it doesn't help that when people react this way and essentially "boycott" the game, it does get BHVRs attention, and changes are usually made in response. This almost "rewards" the behavior because if enough people are unhappy, BHVR takes notice and changes things, even if those changes aren't well received or later reversed - it still worked.
I think stats like this are very interesting. It does kind of make you think about what you believe is fair. Like how many games should anyone lose before eventually you don't blame them for just giving up? Or better yet how many losses should one be expected to have without feeling like giving up?
Idk. I gues that's an impossible question becaue everyone is so differeent.
I'm unsure how to feel about this all lol

If they are unhappy with the game they should not play it.
Also btw. to everyone saying 60% killrate is unfair, this is an average of 2.5 survivors killed per match (not for every killer/every player mind you. Some players go on full 4k streaks while others struggle to even get 2k)
50% would mean its 1k or less on average. This is an asymmetrical game, the balance will NEVER be 50/50 between the two roles. But the main issiue is objective rushing anyway, killers trying to spread hook states evenly are bound to loose. And it doesnt make any sense for a survivor to hold back on gens either. BHVR is trying to incentivice chase but they do it with perk nerfs/buffs, they dont do it on the objective itself. -
Honestly some form of complicated honor system could be aswell, would involve hella lot of work though.
But basicly have the system detect when people are trying to 4% seconds after being hooked, while mates are still living, have a breaking point where 4% is considered a viable tactic (which is when you are only 2 people most of the time, sure there is other niche scenarios but most hookiciders do it right at the start of the trial anyway.) Maybe make it with gens. 2 or 3 gens left 4% is aviable, not before. While deliverance still grants the 100% unhook chance right away. There would be taken much in consideration but with such a "honor" system these people would be filtered out and would then que up only with likeminded players.
Obviously disable this feature in low mmr. -

I would love to see a PTB where 4% is removed. - And I imagine a first dive into the data from that would be fairly easy:
The escape rate rises. —> Removing 4% on live is the way to go.
Nothing except for the number of hook stages changes (same escape rate, more or less same gen progress, more or less same match duration) —> Pretty likely that those noping out of the match on first hook saw that coming and decided to fast forward.
The escape rate stays the same but matches last longer / more gens get completed —> Pretty much the same as above, except even more of an indicator that there's a point where survs can pretty much predict how the game's gonna end, regardless of them sticking around or not.
The escape rate falls —> idk how that would be possible in normal matches but I suppose it would show that a significant amount of killers goes easy on survs if one DCs.
The forums always make it seem like it's all petty little survs that 4% on first hook for the tiniest inconvenience. Those are there… but I really doubt they make up a significant chunk of the ones 4%ing. Finding the actual issue for the vast majority of 4%-ing/DCing would be the important thing and if that little experiment takes us a step closer to that: good.
They DO make up a significant chunk. Every second or third game i play no matter which side has someone throwing. And by throwing i mean not playing bad, i mean running towards the killer, keep repairing even though the killer is right next to them, hookiciding the moment they get hooked and so on.

Removing the DC penalty creates more issues than it solves.
I feel like people who advocate for removing the DC penalty are completely forgetting the human factor, or maybe aren't familiar with how the DbD community would use a penalty free system. (We've had periods of no disconnect penalty due to bugs in the past, and it's not been pretty)
You'd never finish a full game again, ever. The first time survivors are downed? Disconnect. If the survivor manage to get the gates powered? Killer leaves. The usable data for determining kill rates basically disappears, since they (rightfully) ignore games with a DC in those stats.
Back then, yes it made sense to have a penalty. But now we have bots. That is the point i want normal games not have my experience ruined by people that dont want to play. As a survivor, bot teammates are far more useful than people that give up and as a killer i can actually chase people without them just running up to me. I rather play with and against bots instead of hookiciders.
Also the Data about killrates isnt telling anything anyway, Skull merchant has highest killrates because anybody just gives up against her, doctor has alot of AFK botters not getting any kills, hence why he sits at the bottom of the list. Thats not an argument for DC penalty at all.
I can see the issiue with the killer side, as there are no bot killers. Then simply keep the penalty for the killers and remove it for survivors, as those are the ones that ragequit most of the time anyway.
I dont agree with ragequitting, wanna be very clear about that. But trying to understand people that que up into a match only to ragequit… yeah i gave up on that. I dont care, i just want normal games. So either remove the penalty so we get at least bots or remove 4%. And then what? People run up towards you, how we gonna solve that? Thats why im advocating for 0 penalty, now that we have bots. When previously i thought the penalty should be much higher but again people are circumventing it, if there would be nothing they needed to circumvent, then they could just let a bot be there. Much better for people that want normal games where they can do their tomes. -

I think minimizing the worst of experiences would prevent people from reaching that breakpoint at this frequency. I can't tell you how many soloq teammates I've seen afk or DC or Kobe on hook against Nurse/SM just because they don't find the Killer fun.
I honestly think Killer bans are the best solution. The lobby leader has their ban list setup (so SWFs just has to tell their friend which bans to use), and prevent the worst Killers for that group from showing up. Some people hate laggy ranged Killers getting hits through walls. Some people hate Stealth Killers or Spirit because the only counter is audio cues, and they might have hearing damage/deafness. Some people hate whatever the current patch's sweatlord Killers are, because those are responsible for 80% of the bleedout for the 4ks (despite being only 5 Killers typically). Personally, I dislike Killers that punish you for other Survivors failing to use the counterplay correctly, like Myers/Plague/Oni/Xeno.
When people have their 0/10 Killer not show up, they have far far far less of a reason to reach that breaking point to give up on sight. The exception being a quit on the last game of the night, which this solution doesn't address.
I detailed a more complete version 2 years ago here on the forums, and the funny thing is, many of the previous suggestions I made from that overarching document (of 10 different major categories) were adapted in some shape or form.
problem is majority of people find the certain killers unfun the moment they get sacrificed by them. or even downed. I can play litteraly every killer its always at least 1 person that rage quits on hook..
Its not niche scenario or "certain killers" its people not accepting losses. -

We definitely see the frustration it causes and have shared it with the team, and we agree that it doesn't feel great to have teammates abandon you. I'm afraid I don't have anything more concrete to reveal at the moment, but I'd like to be open about it regardless.
It's a tricky problem to tackle since even if the option was removed, there are other ways to quickly get out of the match, such as running to the Killer after being unhooked. Ultimately if someone refuses to play the rest of the match, we can't force them (in a literal sense, they could walk away from their system and still leave the team one player down).
That's not to say that it can't help, of course - making it more inconvenient can be the nudge some people need to finish out the match - though it wouldn't get rid of it entirely.
Hopefully this sheds a little light on it, and please by all means keep the suggestions coming!
i have another, way much simpler idea. Just get rid of the DC penalty at all. I rather have bots as teammates that people who dont want to play this game but they still que up for some reason. By removing DC penalty, the people that cant be forced to play will at least leave a bot behind which is way more usefull than any punishement system ever.

I'm thinking the intent is more chases, especially in tandem, rather than kills. This mode basically sets aside efficiency and competitiveness on the killer side, leaning hopefully to just for fun.
If they wanted to attempt anything like balancing this out some, it would be like 7 survs and 9 gens to do, no hatch, things like that.
Im cool with that. But as it stands right now this looks more fun on the survivor side and more sweaty on the killer side because of how fast gens get done. As in: You cant really enjoy the fun if the match is over too fast.
-
The lack of any gen regression sure will make for fast games where killers cant barely keep up.
-
There is actually a system in place to put you in low mmr for a couple of matches, when you have been gone for a long time. Idk how long that is though.
Your issiue might be something else though, many people are in an mmr bracket where they dont belong, me aswell. Matches feel super sweaty and there are days where you just get rolled match after match. Its because the MMR system doesnt propperly seperate moderate players and pro players. All it does is prevent new players from getting stomped by experienced players. And even that can be circumvented, there are alot of smurfs around.
The only solution would be a better matchmaking system at this point, dont see that happening in the near future though. -

Honestly its even less intuitive that we can "buy" them. Ofc you know which characters you own but previously you could look at the bottom and see who is missing in your collection, now you cant just glance through with your eyes and have to actually look closely, makes it less likely for me to buy new characters when they are not in the featured tab on the store. And im not gonna buy every character right away, like i skipped vecna and alien. Those are sitting somewhere in between the list and it feels annoying to have to search for them instead of just scrolling down at the bottom.
-
Yeah they should revert it, thought i was bugged in the shop until i realized it was the character selection screen. Went to the main menu 2 times because i couldnt differ between shop and character selection anymore.
The greyed out instead of auric cell display had a huge advantage. You had it organized. Now everything is thrown together and why anybody would hide the cosmetics tab is mind boggling. Its a god awful change that noone has asked for.
Its not even a "getting used to" thing btw, i actually liked the last UI change before this one, was a huge improvement to the old UI. But this is a downgrade. -

I didn't hear of anything like this and I can't believe that they would do that. First of all we have swfs playing together so they want players to play with each other and second and more importanly the modificators are meant to be fun modes to play, they aren't made to be balanced perfectly so I don't think they wouldn't allow playing together in this mode from all xD
would be nice to get an official answer, no heat to you but i very well can imagine them doing this.

Would be more effort to lock the classes to specific survivors rather than just have a general class system for anyone. I think you are fine.
I sure hope we get to play more than just the fiew killers in future iterations of this event.. -
Look at the video and tell me it was only 1 player.
I wont waste any more of your time however, i think i have the answer i wanted even though im not happy about it. -

This video alredy has 2 and more existing cases of false banns and this is just one of the videos made. Appearantly on Reddit there even exists a whole bunch of Threads where players talk about the issiue. Saying it has only been 1 case is very untrue.
Or we say the whole bunch of people just lie? is that the message? a movement that is there to make a false picture against BHVR?
So you can see why someone without any reach and followers would be worried, right? Especcially when im seeing untrue statements being made.
And i still would like to know where is the diffrence between a handfull of people with epsilepsy and if it were a whole chunk of the playerbase? Its about health, it should not matter that mutch. -

exactly!
And it is one person that has been banned this way, and the ban reversed. We don't discuss bans publicly but this one we fully acknowledged that a mistake was made on our end through user error (yes on our side). Please don't believe everything you see on social media.
With regards to Trickster reports, unfortunately we received reports of people reporting the original issue - not that they'd encountered it themselves. Which is why the number of reports is considered a small amount on our side, because the number of people who reported who'd had the issue was very small.
Screenshots are there, im not part of these communitys but i have filed tickets on my own before and the screenshots look very legitimate. Im a little bit confused why it makes a diffrence if its just a handfull of people or when it would be a big portion of the playerbase. Its still player health isnt it?
Also there are video proofs how cheaters themselves faked their HUD to look like big streamers, because the cheaters themselves make videos about this. Im not on any social media aside from youtube btw and the problem is that i cant logg in to see for myself if my account could be faked, because unlike big streamers i dont have a community to back me up, which appearantly is neccessary to even get a chance to attend banns. So im here for reasurrence and all im getting as an answer is that its basicly what.. A conspiracy by multiple diffrent youtube creators? Trying to make false statements against BHVR because… They are annoyed of x y reasons?
Like i cant see a world where long time DBD youtubers would profit from stating such things when they are not true. -

I don't think she's blaming the person who got banned… "user error" in this case would be the support agent that did the incorrect ban.
Also the next update is in like 4 days. That's likely how long it'll take for Trickster to return.
We'll see if hes enabled again in 4 days.

Cheaters cannot get innocent people banned. A person was banned through user error and that has all been reversed and sorted out - has absolutely nothing to do with a cheater.
The Trickster is currently disabled, due to a very small number of reports of flashing lights issue - he should return to the fog when the next Update goes live.
It hasnt been one error it has been multiple people who got faked by cheaters, same for the "small number of reports" on the trickster issiue.. there was a whole youtubers community filing tickets and the person isnt even that big of a streamer to beginn with. But it was just a minor handfull of people filing tickets??? Even though there are screenshots from at least 30 people filing tickets and thats just 1 community…
At least i know basicly nothing has changed from the way you devs handle these things. I bet it will take another 2 months until trickster is fixed, like it took that long to fix knight when he was killswitched. I was paying customer for 4 years and im highly disappointed.
Edit: After reading the response again "user error" so you blame the person that got banned? THEY did something wrong? what exactly? -

I had a somewhat longer reply typed out but I'm not here for an argument. You asked for an opinion, I gave you an opinion. You seem to not like it and that reply of yours somehow gives me the impression you don't actually care about other people's opinions/perceptions. So I guess that's that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Have a good day.
I asked a question in my reply. I guess you cant give a good answer.
If there are good reasons as to why i should handicap myself in my playstyle for some stranger in a video game then im happy to hear it, you can even DM me about it because this thread is about something completely else. -

I just don't like moris tbh. Visually.
The one thing that I did notice is that some killers really go out of their way to get the mori - similar to how some people will go out of their way to hook 4 survs in basement in one match. Yes, theres an achievement and some challenges want you to hook a certain amount of survs in the basement but i still find it rather cringe to force it. may just be my perception tho
How is it cringe when it is in the game???? maybe you need to step away from the game a bit to realize we dont do it to offend you.
its cringe to blame someone for enjoying things that are programmed into the game. that is cringe. -

This is why DC penalties need to be harsher. These are the types that don't think of others as they play. Putting in a Bot is not enough. Though, to be honest, a Bot tends to be alot more skilled than real person players. Bring back hour-long penalties.
If penalties get harsher hookiciding and throwing will increase even more. Majority of ragequitters alredy does that, i would be happy if it were at least bots but as either killer or survivors im scrapped from bloodpoints because 1 person decides to just run towards the killer and give up because of xyz.

"And that happens every 3rd round? Thats the amount of time i see people ragequit (or give up). And im terrible with math but even i know when every 3rd game in MY games something like this happens it must mean it happens a hella lot to other people too. I am not magically attracting ragequitters into my lobby no matter what side i play, i dont believe that."
That about the rate i see player DCs/suicides when i play as well. I don't agree about unfun playstyles being niche but we can agree it no reason to quit. Players have gotta away with this for far to long. The problem is survivors will throw game regardless so they need to solve the actual issues of why survivors giving up.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3754846#Comment_3754846
i agree they should stop playing if they can't have fun when losing but that not going to happen.
oh you are totally right "unfun" playstyles are by far no niche, they are core gameplay elements. Its undoubtly better for a killer to go against 3 survivors than 4. So tunneling becomes pretty general tactic amongst the players. And if people hate being tunneled so hard, that they quit whenever that happens to them, then this game aint for them. Because i dont see a near future where anything will change about the gameplay loop.
But on the other hand i witnessed tons of scenarios where its just in the very first chase and down when someone quits, so they dont even know whether or not the killer is a "tunneler" before they ragequit. People find all kinds of reasons but they always claim its only a fiew certain situations that makes them ragequit.
