It's not just matchmaking and lobby shopping but also balancing all matchups with a single ruleset.
Can you expand on that thought?

Chaos Shuffle has made me realise how much I dislike Killer aura reading perks and how wrong BHVR were to nerf Distortion into the ground. It's just playing the game autopilot mode when it comes to hunting for Survivors and it more or less shuts down the stealth aspect of the game completely. You don't know that they have aura reading until it's too late.
You could say the similar things about Windows of Opportunity being autopilot mode for Survivors, but they still need to be able to loop to make use of that perk. Any time I've gotten windows, it hasn't increased my chase times because I don't know how to loop.
That is why you have to expect it, which means you are required to know the perks and possibilities.
Even with aura reading the killer still has to catch you, and if you have played accordingly, the aura reading will not always lead to a hit.
Now, does it ruin the stealth aspect? In some cases absolutely yes. I personally believe that the increase in aura reading perks for killers is due to the speed at which the game is played according to whatever data BHVR has, and there is a lot of data to consider. A LOT.
I have addressed this in a different thread already and I will probably make a new thread eventually when I get around to it, but I believe that discussing the balancing for public lobbies and soloQ in particular is, at least at this point in time, not leading anywhere due to the fact that the public match experience is not defined well enough. Trying to impose order on chaos will only lead to more chaos here.
EDIT: spelling mistake, keep the rest

If we didn't center balance around high mmr, Dead Hard, BNP, AHS, and many other busted things wouldn't have been nerfed. DBD is balanced around high mmr and high mmr player opinions.
While I see why you'd make that assumption I don't believe that that is the entire truth. I believe BHVR is trying to find a balance where high MMR players as well as low MMR players can have fun with the game. And this is extremely difficult in the particular case of Dead by Daylight.
And my observation here is that DBD as it is, is many different things to different people and therefore there are many different ideas on how the game should be.
As DBD is now and in particular public lobby matches, to which I count SoloQ as a substantial part, you will essentially get 5 People who think about the Game in a completely different way. When you take for example Counter Strike: Source, the gameplay - the representation - the marketing of it which shapes the expectation with which you go into the game is rather clearly defined. This is not the case for Dead by Daylight.
In order to really satisfy the majority of players you essentially have to treat the game in separate ways. This is not an easy task for a studio like BHVR, especially given the speed at which they develop the game and the focus they have.
In my opinion the Custom Match feature should have been expanded upon massively with an ingame feature to host game modes and variations that you can join where certain rules are more clearly defined.
Would that split the playerbase? Yes but at this point you have to bite the bullet, because the playerbase is already split and without an outlet it will continue to eat itself up.
Now I am getting quite offtopic with this and I think it would be best to make a new thread for this, but the gist of it is that the MMR for SoloQ serves its own purpose, it is not enough to keep DBD growing at the speed that it could actually grow. It is clear that there is a high demand for this game and a lot of people would dearly love to love this game, it's sad that BHVR is taking it into this direction. I really do believe they are making their lives unnecessarily difficult.

Reverse engineered data request 2 times a year. LOL
Why should BHVR show you the MMR when you can reverse engineer it in your data then?
@kit_mason has the right idea
And as I said, we should not be giving the community ammo to pretend theyre more skilled than each other.
This is so true because if you listen to the video posted, the user is hoping this will change the way people have opinions of this game. He says people are not recognizing that this game is competitive, that people see this as a party game.
People will have to hand out their MMR receipt before pooping out their opinion…
However this is ignoring that our conception of this game is subjective and the fact that BHVR will take us seriously as players regardless of what MMR we have or what our conception of the game is. BHVR listens, bit rarely obeys.
He seems to be doing all of this, hoping that his side of argument can get an edge in discussion DBD Balance in the community by showing off his MMR, but any game designer would recognize that they are not making a game just for sweatlords, they make a game for everyone, from baby megs to Otzarvas on steroids.
I for one cant wait to hear the argument on reddit, "Uhm so what's your MMR?" 🤓 so I can laugh at and dismiss them from my consideration. Like who even cares? I know BHVR don't, so why should I?
People already love to argue in bad faith like "oh you must be low MMR". Or here on the forums "oh you only have so many posts".
You're not gonna get rid of any of that behavior. That being said I also don't understand what knowing my MMR does for me, or anyone else for that matter. Except for what you say, bragging rights and possibly attempting to center balance discussions around high MMR players opinions.
Besides that, the way MMR is calculated is busted to begin with, so the number representing it is equally as busted.

@Halloulle said:
Someone who's been at it for four pages sure sounds like an LLM having been given a prompt to argue in bad faith.
On the topic: Yeah, friend and I tried playing as duo and four out of for matches were either the slugging option (twins & oni) or the hard-tunneling option (pig & blight). On another occasion I played with two frens and it was the same… in so far as killers attempted to do this but between lucky draws with perks (three people having UB and one having soulguard while the killer got a lone Thrill is about as lucky as you can get in this situation, I guess) and killers overcommitting on the one person who could give them a tour of the map because they so happen to main that killer and know exactly what they can and can't do it was at least not an experience as horrid as the previous.
Bottom line for me on the slugging is, if the counter is "just don't get downed then", it's not a counter. And in a game that is built around survs having three lives, it is a design feature that needs looking at.
So the killer is only ever allowed to slap you, hook you and then go as far away from you as possible?
-
I love getting paired with Megheads who blow every skillcheck, sandbag you and then proceed to go down on a godpallet for no reason. Then hop on killer and get sent to CPA with shack window facing right into a JG and Main with a godwindow and survivors who know how to use it. Really tickles my pickle.

If I'm playing as survivor, I generally expect to be immersed in an environment where there's tension and a "horror" atmosphere, where I'll attempt to do the various tasks survivors have to do (e.g. some time on gens, some time going for saves, some time in chase, maybe go try to block for a death hook teammate, etc.). Tunneling takes that possibility away and instead makes the game into a nonstop chase where I'll have almost no chance of escape.
Likewise, as killer, I expect to hunt for and chase survivors, defend gens, and get survivors on hooks for sacrifices. An argument can be made that bully squads attempt to take that away from the killer since the 'hunt' generally stops the moment the first survivor goes down and a lot of the match turns into a competition to see if the killer can slug faster than the survivors heal until there's a moment to get someone on hook. I just don't complain about bully squads much because I usually don't see them get the gens done. Otherwise, I'd think they were a real problem, making the killer unable to participate in the game. But I generally still get hooks after two or three are slugged and the rest are injured :/
Tell me you're not getting that. Not every match will be the same and that is what makes this game so fun.
I get a killer who tunnels me? Amazing I get to practice running the killer. Oh he got me? Good sh*t, he's probably a good player or I have to practice more. But here you go pointing your fingers at others. You see what I mean?
Respectfully, I think this behavior is pathetic and leads you nowhere. Infact this place is nothing but an echochamber for crybabies who wallow in their own misery all day long while begging BHVR to implement impossible "fixes".

"we never look at ourselves and say "Man, I am a radically unfun person"."
How would you feel if someone hijacked your play experience? Maybe you should do some self-reflection once in a while because you seem like the "radically unfun person". Wouldn't hurt to practice some mindfulness.
The game could be about anything and you'd still justify being to be rude to others under the guise of "I'm not responsible for anyone else's fun" while actively ruining their time. Sure, you're only responsible for you but remember, you're not the only one there who's trying to have fun. Have some self-awareness, please.
You are the sad part of the community. I feel bad for your friends if they game with you if this is how you treat people.Jesus you are one condescending person. Respectfully being as nice as possible here.

Good luck trying that, you will fail, I absolutely guarantee you that.
>justify being to be rude to others
Brother I talk about playing the game. This is a forum about a game. I don't know you. Your feelings are yours to control, not mine.
>while actively ruining their time
You are ruining your own time. If you don't have this agency over your own life then I would suggest you get this under control before you engage in such games with other people. Again, respectfully, you seem like you have stuff you need to talk about.
>

Why are we constantly drifting offtopic with you?

Never learn the fundamentals, always rely on your Perks guys. B00st your MMR into spots you don't belong so you can cry about things you don't understand.

And for the record, I play about as much killer as survivor. There are no sides here.

I also didn't say someone's getting taken out at five gens. I simply said 'early'. That could reasonably be interpreted as anything in the first half of the game. 3, 4, or 5 gens would be reasonable interpretations. But it's fair that five gens left is within that range, and I totally agree that the survivors have messed up if someone is out with five gens left. But a 3v1 at 3 or 4 gens should be easily winnable by the killer.
Also, while my feelings don't generally get hurt over playing video games, it's certainly reasonable for someone to be frustrated when they're treated poorly in any scenario. It's just like with any other activity done with other people; there's no reason to do something that ruins someone else's experience without provocation. Games on the internet are still interactions with other people. If we suggest that tunneling early in a match is an intended game mechanic, that suggests that BHVR intends for some players to have a relatively bad experience through no fault of their own. That is, the game would then be intentionally designed to force some players to have a bad experience regardless of how well they play. That would be a design issue, and should be addressed so that we don't have people playing a game where they expect to have pointless matches on a regular basis.
Tunneling prevents the targeted player from doing anything other than getting chased and eliminated for the entire match. They don't get to do any other part of the game, which is a situation most people don't enjoy. That's different than a person losing at a game where they get to do all the parts of the game. The idea that someone can force that to happen is a problem.
I'm not even reading that. You're moving the goalpost every one of your posts.

Almost every game that's played with other people is a PVP game. And yes, we should all be considerate when we interact with other humans. Just because a game is played on the internet with people we don't know doesn't remove the fact that other real people are involved.

Making up stories? If you look at any stats, Dead by Daylight is a one-sided game. You'll win almost every game you play if you're any good at killer. The game is awful and only worth touching when there's an event or tome because it's a terrible game at its core. The game was far healthier around 2021-2022 for solo queue.
I don't think the game is terrible at it's core. The coding is just a mess and probably irredeemable at this point but the base game is neat and unique. I enjoy playing both sides and I have done so for years now. But the story that BHVR only cares about Killers is plain made up.

@smurf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3872779#Comment_3872779
Of course it is. If you tunnel someone out early the rest of the survivors have essentially no chance to finish all the gens because even if you don't tunnel another survivor, once you hook one more person, they'll have one person on hook, one person going for saves and healing, and another getting chased.
And that's a basekit ability of every killer. And all it requires is to tunnel out the first person you find who you think won't last long in chase. And when it's done, that player will have been unable to play the game other than to be chased the whole game, most of it in an inured state, and the other players will be unable to do the gens. How is it okay to make someone unable to play the game, and as a result render their entire team unable to win?
Again straight up lies and made up stories.
>If you tunnel someone out early the rest of the survivors have essentially no chance to finish all the gens
Are you strictly talking about yourself here? I do not understand. The amount of games I won while at 3 or 2 survivors left is not neglect-able, and those games are often even more entertaining than anything else.
Watch him come out with the "low mmr" argument.

I've been torn and wanted to see what other people think about the personal statistics they might be sharing. Part of me feels that BVHR plays so defensively in how they communicate that they don't have the assertiveness to report statistics on bad behaviors.
Why would you be interested in seeing how often you DC or died withing 60 seconds?

Tunneling/slugging are exploits. They ignore the core aspects of the game and take no skill to do. Like I said in another reply, tunnel/slugging/camping can be done without perks. While survivors then require perks to counter it or be at the mercy of someone that won't let them play. And by "normal" I was referring to core gameplay elements/mechanics.
And I'm selfish?? That's funny. Remind me to never play any game with you either. You sound insufferable if you can't even be mindful of a shared activity that involves other people.>Tunneling/slugging are exploits.

If you're breaking or exploiting things in a game then it's clear it's way more about you and you winning. No reason you just can't play a game as normal, hone your skills, and still win.
The problem isn't simply wanting to win, it's how you go about it. If I go in with the attitude that only MY experience matters when there's other people involved, it's pretty selfish. At that point I'd just play a single player game or play with bots if I want to not be mindful of others. Put yourself in others' shoes once in a while.I agree that exploits are trash but this thread isn't about exploits though, is it.
And what does "normal" even mean here? That's entirely subjective and really only sounds like "please play the way I want".
The roles can be reversed here too. So the "selfish" argument hardly tracks here. We are all selfish, including you. You want others to play differently for selfish reasons. It's a video game, if I keep you on the ground for two minutes you can hardly take it personal.
I really wish I could understand the constant whining and complaining but I just can't.

That's kind of the point? Everyone is here to play, not have their time ruined by being stuck bleeding out for 5 minutes just because a crappy killer wanted a win and was willing to make the game miserable for it.
It's not about "giving everyone a chance" I want to play the game how it's supposed to be played, using perks, killer power etc. I can still get points by not being a jerk and ruining it for others. I don't need to tunnel to win either.
Tunnel/slugging can be done without perks. Camping can be done without perks. While for survivors they have to sacrifice their builds to always bring Unbreakable, Decisive etc. or be at the mercy of a crappy killer where they don't get to play. Again, where's the fun in that? It's a problem that people can throw the core gameplay out the window, not learn how to play, and still win. It's clear it was never meant to be a thing, people just abuse it for their own means and the devs have needed to do something about it for the past several years.
Also if you're willing to resort to doing scummy things just to win, you do care more about winning than having fun. You are the sweaty killer. What's wrong with playing to win and being sweaty?

Same goes to when survivors complain about being tunneled out of the game so fast.
Point being neither side should complain about this other than "its annoying"
My point is that the term "Genrush" is used in rather ridiculous ways.
A guy without gen perks or toolbox just holding M1 on a gen is already genrushing for some players here.
On the other hand when I come in with commodious toolbox and hyperfocus I enter the match with the intend to actually rush gens.

We do know how it occurred. Survivors used to be able to permanently sabotage hooks. There was a time in DbD history when this type of slugging was necessary. That was many years ago, and that isn't the case now.
This type of slugging has only become prevalent over the last few months. Hot button issues generally get addressed within a few patch cycles over the last few years.

Absolutely it is poor gameplay.
As a survivor you can play without perks and experience 0 downsides if you know how the movement system works. Funnily enough even veteran players have not realized the momentum based movement and regularly ######### the bed with their big goofy turnarounds that practically guarantee a hit.
The amount of whining is absolutely off the charts and to me it's honestly quite curious how a community can collectively drive itself against the wall like this.

The ability to slug players for 4 minutes is not a necessary mechanic for the health of DbD. I can not recall a time I was forced to do this within the last 3 or 4 years. The only people doing this are griefers and trolls.
This is not gameplay depth. It's a bad legacy mechanic. If a player can't win with hooks, they're bad.
So you're saying that the underlying base gameplay is flawed to the point where the entire game can be shut down by a single player and we are somehow wondering about how or why this outcome occurred?
Exactly how many years will it take for you to lose faith that any sort of change to this will come around?
The entire argument of winconditions and "bad players" is completely redundant when you realize that we are talking about people who are certified no-#########-giver.

This is just showing the skill of the survivors. It's not the problem of the game or the killer. Slugging can be countered.
Funny how they are all spread out across the map. How does that even happen. You have to engage in astronomical levels of tomfoolery to get to that point.

I don't think they can handle your truth.
Nothing new. Some people insist on being wrong their entire lives.

Please explain what is wrong with the statement other than trying to drum up more "us vs them" type stuff on an alt account with 18 posts. Otherwise i see no point in engaging with someone on something like this.
I explained it in plain text brother. You need me to spell it out or something?

I feel like you are thinking i mean it in some "insulting" sense. I'm stating that simply:
- gens fly because there are no gen defense perks
- survivors get tunneled because there are no anti-tunnel perks
- The game is balanced around both of these types of perks being in play, and simply highlights the issues of balance.
What exactly is the problem with that statement?
"Genrushing" is a specific strategy. Simply doing your objective can hardly be called "rushing".

The mode itself is a mess.
Survivors just rush gens because there's no gen defense
Killers just tunnel because there's no tunnel defense.
It highlights the problems with the game in that it is balanced around killers bringing gen defense perks, and survivors bringing anti-tunnel perks.
How is it genrushing when the perks are literally random.
Do you guys ever think before you post? It's like complaining that CT rush to defuse the bomb in CS.

This is one of the reasons why survivors don't want to play during events causing killers to have long waits. To "fix" it BHVR is going to start using bots to fill event lobbies instead of addressing the reasons why they can't get enough survivors to play.
Given the average soloQ survivor performance, bots are in general an upgrade.
