  • It's not.

  • You must not read many posts. There's plenty of reasoning coming from people who dislike it. If you don't ever see it, it's because you aren't reading the posts.

  • Personally, I do like her theme but she feels like ass on dedicated servers. I hate puking right on somebody, seeing them wave their arms around and hearing them yell out, and still not having them be infected. She ends up feeling almost like a regular M1 killer. Maybe I'm just using her wrong though.

  • Hag is a Wendigo. And like other people are saying, Wendigo isn't from Until Dawn.

    I'm pretty sure it's a folklore creature.

  • Ouch, that hurts to hear. I can't exactly say much other than sorry that happened to you, but I can also give a bit of advice: I'm pretty sure if you press shift and move around you can cancel the locked-in animation from opening a chest. It at least works when you've opened the chest, so I think it works when you're just stopping the chest search too.

  • You're using the wrong offering. You need a mori, not a cake :)

  • Don't say it almost calls for a refund just because you aren't using the killer correctly. I'm not even trying to say that as an insult to you. It's just simply the fact that he can be pretty deadly, and his stalk isn't useless once they know it's Myers. He can still stalk perfectly fine, even if he has to get right up behind somebody. That isn't even considering Michael potentially having something like his iridescent fragrant tuft of hair add on, or the purple mirror add on.

  • Yeah, she is fun. People just complain about her a lot and it makes her seem like she's just the most frustrating thing, and I can't say there's no frustration involved but I like learning to play her. She feels actually engaging and like you have to be respected. Survivors won't just teabag at the other side of the pallet anymore, because they just can't lol

Glad to see somebody else enjoying her.

  • You're right. People get too caught up with the shiny little number next to their name.

I don't think people realize but they even said they'd be doing live tests of their MMR system.

Don't make unsafe unhooks, and your team mates won't die 2 seconds after getting off the hook.....for gods sake they give you bonus points (A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT) for making safe unhooks....

And for camping all you have to do is default the killer and pop gens. They will lose that match and depip no matter what....so I dunno what the issue is?

"But what about the person on the hook"

^ Why are you hooked in the first place?

On the same token as PH....instead of calling out bad plays you guys just screamed at the devs until they made a Knee Jerk reaction to "hotfix" it. A very vocal minority on top of that.

Games been around for years yet people still find excuses for bad play and scream at the devs to adjust for their terrible skill level instead of get better at the game. Its a trash mentality, and will eventually kill the game ala Evolve Stage 2 style.

Try making a "safe hook" with a Pig crouching right in the area. I'd love for you to explain how to do that against a camping Pig in a normal solo survivor environment.

Once again it's not about the efficiency. It's about the chance to ruin somebody's game. Just like the reason they took away some of PH's kit to make it harder for him to camp around cages: it wasn't the most efficient way to play him and look, he still got changed because some players play him that way. "Lose" or not, you should see the issue. Do you think people like being told "all you have to do is default the killer and pop gens" when they're getting facecamped by Insidious Leatherface? No matter how right you may be, it doesn't change the fact that this person and whoever else ends up falling for it just had their game ruined by a completely stupid and unfun strategy. A lot of people have a problem with something like that, and I imagine BHVR is trying to tone that stuff down because they're removing the chainsaw guys' infinite revving.

"^ Why are you hooked in the first place?" Oh right silly me I forgot, as survivor you're not allowed to be hooked once or it means your game is over. Silly me.

It's hilarious how you try to tell me all that, and then also "you guys just screamed at the devs until they made a Knee Jerk reaction" is completely false. Go ahead and find a comment where I'm whining at the devs for him to be changed. Pro tip: you can't, and you won't. I didn't give a damn about PH. I know what you're saying and everything. That doesn't change the fact that the devs seem to want the game a certain way, and are allowing certain characters to be outliers -- like Pig.

So don't even try to bring up that "you just whined for a hotfix" ######### when you don't know what you're saying, please.

I know you already don't seem to know what you're saying, as shown by the fact that I've constantly pointed out that it's not about the efficiency, and you still continue to try to argue against me on that basis. You don't need to make yourself sound more clueless by throwing out the "git gud" instead of actually, ya know, saying anything whatsoever of substance in response.

Your whole reply boils down to:

"Just don't make unsafe unhooks" (I already explained why that's ridiculous.)

"Just do gens and they depip" (I already explained that's not the point of what I'm saying, yet you're too dense to see.)

"You just like to whine because you can't get good and want to blame the devs" (Nothing but a straw man for you to try to take down, as you can't respond with any sort of actual intelligence. You're either a complete idiot or you're being disingenuous if you actually want to believe that I complained about PH before.)

I can't wait to see how you're going to (or more likely, not going to) debunk thing's I've said here.

  • So? I don't think you realize what PH has to actually do to get somebody in a cage. Everybody likes to forget that PH has to get you tormented to do anything like that to you.

He has to get you tormented, which takes much longer than if he just goes in for regular attacks and just downs you. He spent all that time chasing, only to send somebody to a cage, and get saved instantly more than likely.

You're telling me you want to allow DS and BT to work with that? Why would anybody waste time tormenting and caging people anymore then? Once again, I don't think you realize what has to happen for people to get caged.

With what you're suggesting, the only thing a cage would be good for is as you said, saving just a little time picking somebody up and bringing them to the hook. Thing is, that's not smart whatsoever if you're just going to waste all the extra time getting them tormented, just for you to lose all your pressure. There would be practically no point to the cages. It would almost always be a disadvantage. I don't see why you wouldn't regularly hook people at that point when you get to 1. choose where it happens, 2. the hook doesn't disappear on you if you want to camp, 3. you can immediately start setting trails around the hook area to slow people down and have the chance to torment them.

Please, tell me what sort of advantages other than "save a little time picking somebody up" that caging would give you at that point.

  • I've only ever had something like that happen one single time of all the games I've had. I feel like people are usually pretty honorable when it comes to doing stuff like that.

That sucks though, it's not exactly a good experience. :P

"Clicky" yeah the noise is annoying As heck. (I do play both sides I've spent sooo many hours on this game alll ready) But as you I pay no mind, each trial is different. It takes a LOT to bother me. But the "toxic" part I love and understand more of that explanation. I never thought that as the proper word. Thank you.

Glad to hear there's more like me who don't get bothered by silly things. :P

  • TBH I feel the same. It needs to work while injured too. It's already not an insane perk, and the biggest use of it is mostly just walking around slightly faster so you can recharge your exhaustion and not have to be forced into regular walk speed. It still wouldn't be insane if it was usable while injured. It's not like people are gonna be pulling these insane jukes with Fixated while injured, and if they really do want to try it has to be paired up with Iron Will so people can be sneaky.

  • I mean, you said yourself you haven't played for long. Keep playing, and try both sides, and you'll start to realize why people complain. Like for example, the whole "flashlights are toxic" thing. Flashlights existing in itself isn't toxic, but people will do things to purposely try to annoy other players, which is where the term "toxic" starts coming in. At least that's what I'm imagining people are talking about. One example of that is people binding their flashlight to mouse well and using it almost solely to just make rapid clicking noises.

I don't get bothered by a lot of that stuff, but... I just take issue with the fact that you say "if it's toxic then why is it in the game," because there's plenty of things in games that aren't inherently toxic but can be used in such a way.

Welcome to the game though. Hope you enjoy your time playing. :)

Hooking people faster? You don’t realize how much time you can actually save.

Or how much time you'll waste by giving up all your pressure.

There's downsides to caging too. You don't get to choose where somebody is, which is often times where killers get their opportunity to snowball: when they can get multiple survivors disabled or off generators, trying to help each other. Yeah, you could cage somebody but honestly with every discussion about PH I'm starting to see less and less uses out of it.

  • I can't believe people have failed to mentioned the fact that survivors also get second chances from their items too. Styptic/syringe (which were even nerfed before because they were so strong.)

You remember when a survivor could get hit into the dying state and still use a syringe ON THEMSELVES as they went down to heal back up to full HP? Even if you don't I'm sure you can imagine it isn't very fun to get hit with what's essentially a double Adrenaline after downing a survivor.

  • Can you tell me what you think the whole entire point of his cages should be?

Why are you making suggestions for bad pig players then?

She's one of the only killers in the game who's kit makes it possible to ignore the urge to camp all together. Once they have a helmet on them they're effectively "Ruined" until they get it off. There's no excuse for camping on pig unless you're bad, or unless the survivors are bad and don't know how to respond to camping.

Lack of education regarding those strategies is extreme, because I still see survivors making the same dumb mistakes....

You wanna give survivors the excuse of XYZ is camping, sure.

But tunneling is not a real thing. If your team mates make ######### saves and farm the hook you're screwed. Thats not the killers fault you're sitting out there wide open and refuse to move and hide somewhere else. Could the killer go after the guy who unhooked you? Maybe....if they could find that guy in the first place. Because usually people that farm you off the hook don't leave tracks, and hide. Which means your goofy ass running away are the only tracks the killer has to follow. <-----you've been FARMED not tunneled.

Same reason people made suggestions for bad PH players.

PH can also ignore the urge to camp all together. Still got changed. Doesn't matter if only bad players do it, they still do, and BHVR still seems to be against it. Yes, survivors will make dumb mistakes sure, but it's not really a "dumb mistake" to have the killer just constantly harass you. That's not something the survivor can control. Just like PH got to decide whether he was a camping douche or not.

Yea sure, tunneling isn't a real thing. Go have a killer stick around the hook and then knock you right back down when you get off into a mori off your first hook. Then tell me tunneling isn't a real thing.

  • You just went against people being toxic... Just note their profiles/names and just bring a mori and facecamp them next time. Yea it kind of sucks if you're not prepared but just remember, that's usually why it sucks. You're not prepared.

  • @TAG said:

And that's a really bad and inefficient strategy. Again, they are better off just re-hooking them and camping the hook until they just die.

As I said before, it's not about the efficiency.

  • Why though? He's fine as is right now. Your portals getting instantly destroyed is just because the portal gets revealed after you use it, but you can have multiple portals set up in one area and even if one of them gets revealed after use and destroyed, you still have all the other ones as backup. On top of that, if they're on your portals destroying those that means they're wasting time doing that instead of other things like healing, totems, or generators.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1436561#Comment_1436561

You misunderstand what I mean. I'm saying there's no real point to cheesing the RBT if you are trying to score cheap kills because you are better off just camping the hook like any other killer. Why wait for the Trap timer to start AND expire when you can just camp and down them the moment they are off the hook?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1436939#Comment_1436939

You even admit it's essentially the same thing as face-camping the hook with any other killer, so why are other killers being discouraged from camping while Pig gets to keep her capabilities?

What is discouraging Wraith from camping the hook? What is discouraging Ghostface from camping the hook? What is discouraging Scratched Mirror Myers from camping the hook? What is discouraging Deathslinger from camping the hook at a distance?

Multiple killers can still currently camp the hook with ease, and I doubt most of them are going to be changed to stop that. So what makes you think they're going to do something about the Pig?

I do understand. I'm telling you, at least the ones that I play against, the Pigs will do that and still tunnel somebody off hook even if they get off. They down, helmet, hook, camp, and then tunnel them so they can't get their helmet off.

  • @calem said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1436571#Comment_1436571

What you're missing is that PH cages negates both BT and DS, meaning camping with him was actually extremely strong. They HAD to hotfix it, because all the tools survivors had to stop camping were irrelevant. No BT hits. No DS stuns. You just get hooked again and you're dead. Pig RBT's don't do that, so this whole point of her tunnelling someone with an RBT is basically the same as face-camping the hook with any other killer. Still at risk of hitting someone with BT, still at risk of being DS stunned. No one can do anything about it, there's no real way to stop it from happening, just suck it up for one game and move on. Scummy players will be scummy players.

As far as I'm aware, being put in a cage and not rescued at all takes the same time to sacrifice you as if you were put on a hook and the same thing happened. Only difference is as you said, in a cage you don't get BT or DS but he has to walk over to come camp you. Either way, the counterplay is the same. Do gens and get out. As I said, against PH nobody has to come unhook if it's dangerous and he's just camping there. Do gens. On top of that, you have to let yourself get tormented for that to even happen in the first place.

No, they didn't have to hotfix it. No, as Pig you don't risk somebody you hit having BT because you crouch and remove your terror radius, which cancels out the BT. Either way it doesn't matter in the slightest whether they have BT or DS or whatever 2nd chance perks they want, because if their helmet activates at any point and you know where they are, they're absolutely screwed. You don't have to initiate chase with them, you can just be near them and constantly pressure them to the point where their head just pops. It's like a slightly less effective version of the old Legion, where he could kill you just through the bleedout bar and following you facing backwards. There's nothing the survivor can really do to stop the killer from doing it and they're pretty much just on a timer to die. It's not even about the efficiency of it toward "winning" the game, it's just completely boring and pointless to play against.

You talk about PH not giving you a chance to escape, but you don't want to admit that Pig can essentially do the same thing. She still has to eat a DS here and there, sure, but as mentioned before it doesn't matter when she can just constantly patrol around where you are and never let you touch a box until your timer runs out. You even admit it's essentially the same thing as face-camping the hook with any other killer, so why are other killers being discouraged from camping while Pig gets to keep her capabilities?

By your logic, I could just tell you to "suck it up for one game and move on" too. They didn't need to fix the PH issue, because "scummy players will be scummy players" right? It's the same problem. Just because it's on a character you like more/hate less doesn't mean it's any less of a problem.

I think you misunderstood me when I was talking about pyramid head.

given a survivor is unable to run elsewhere

I'm talking about you're in a classroom on midwich and if you left a tile, you'd be hit, so you keep looking around a dropped pallet until he inevitably downs you. Thus, spam.

I agree with you on using the addons to make up for the learning the intricacies of powers. Nurse with 5 blinks was indeed stupid and worth the title of spam. But I don't think Nurse is applicable by the same definition in her current state which is where I've seen the phrase most used.

I know it's a bit off topic and many already agree (and I think you do as well) that in the cases where spam was an issue, it was addons. But we all know what happens when addons are the problem and the devs go to fix it.

Just wanted to thank you for being my hypothetical debate opponent. It's nice being able to have a few points being brought up even when you're just stepping in for a perspective you don't share.

Yea NP, and thanks for respecting the discussion. Too many people on here try to twist things around and make things about killer vs. survivors and all that stuff o_O Glad to be part of actual discussion.

You bring up a point that I'd like to discuss on, when you say

"spamming" would be just using chainsaw after chainsaw after chainsaw even if you're just constantly missing.

If you're billy and you're constantly revving at every opportunity, you're bound to lose chases due to simply being outplayed because you've chosen the wrong time to saw. Same kinda goes with Nurse, if you're in a chase (Not gonna talk about traversal in this case) and you're blinking at every chance and not doing it methodically, you're going to be in a longer chase than you would have if you manually set yourself straight. Through this process you get better with the respective power, ultimately finding out when and where is it a good idea to blink/saw.

It's apart of the learning process because you will fail unless you adapt, unlike say Pyramid Head who can, yes, spam an attack until it hits at random, with no thought put into it and no punishment for missing given a survivor is unable to run elsewhere. I don't think spamming should be an adjective applied to either killer in the big picture.

Yeah, but most people don't want to go through that learning process, thus they "spam" the ability. They use add ons like recharge power or charge rate like Billy has now, because they can't deal with downsides of using their power. It's evident by how people would constantly spam omega blink and 5 blink Nurse before she got nerfed, or how Billy currently gets to use his boring instasaw add ons which are getting trashed soon.

And no, PH does not "spam" his attack "with no thought put into it and no punishment." IDK if you've ever played PH but missing his ability has a hefty cooldown, like "Nurse double blinking into a missed attack" sort of hefty.

I'm not even claiming that this is all super important -- I really couldn't care less about this whole "definitions" thing personally, but I just figure that's probably what most people mean by "spamming." Whether or not it's a smart use of the word, I can imagine what it might be referring to. I mean anybody who went against a 5 blink Nurse back then definitely knows what spamming is.

  • "Spamming" blinks is probably just what it sounds like. IDK how those people are using it, but I would imagine the same thing as if Billy is "spamming" his chainsaw. Just using the power willy nilly with no regard for how it's actually being done, and rather just trying to brute force it. I would imagine it's being used to refer to Nurses who aren't good at playing Nurse, and therefore have to resort in using brute force and the most blinks over time possible just to get their hits. Just like 5 blink Nurse used to exist. As for the comparison to Billy, his "spamming" would be just using chainsaw after chainsaw after chainsaw even if you're just constantly missing.

It's slightly different right now because Nurse can't necessarily "spam" her ability because she has that cooldown in between now. Billy can just still kinda endlessly use his chainsaw in a brainless way, but that's getting changed soon too.

  • @calem said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1435694#Comment_1435694

I mean they wouldn't really change anything because her power actually rewards you for not tunnelling. You are wasting your time as Pig if you constantly chase the guy with an RBT on his head. He has to take the time to get it off, when you could be chasing someone else. I get that not all Pigs do that, but it is the reason the timer doesn't tick down if you're in chase.

But just to clarify as an avid Pig player myself: having an RBT on your head doesn't give you invulnerability. So many people think this. If I see you, and don't know where other survivors are, I'm going to chase you. Just like any other killer.

I think you're forgetting the fact that you don't have to be "in chase" with somebody. In fact, I don't think you CAN be in chase with somebody while you're crouched. Maybe you are rewarded for not tunneling, but that doesn't change the fact that you can still just harass the hell out of one player and ruin their game, which I'm pretty sure is something that BHVR isn't okay with. They hotfixed PH just because some people played him in a scumbag way, so why shouldn't they do the same to Pig even if not all players play her like that? If they want to remove things just based off the potential to be toxic, then Pig needs to be soon as well.

Nobody said anything about being invulnerable. I think you know exactly what playstyle I'm talking about if you're a Pig player. Nobody said anything about invulnerability here, we're talking about a piece of ######### Pig who doesn't do anything but just chase people with a trap on their head.

It's funny how I've gotten comments on the efficiency of the playstyle, but that's not what it's about. It's the fact that she can play like a complete douche and nothing stops her, not even a small hotfix to change one or even two small things about her power, like they did to PH. They could make her traps pause based off distance to Pig instead of being in chase so they couldn't just prowl around people with a helmet. They could make it to where the progress gets set back a little bit every time Pig harasses the survivor, so they couldn't just keep getting knocked off a box and bullied to the point where their helmet makes their head pop. There's a bunch of small things they could do to make Pig less insufferable but they've left her in her stupid state for a long time. At this point since I'm convinced they don't want to change the power itself in a good way, I'd rather just have them remove the god forsaken thing and just give her a completely new ability that isn't toxic and has more options, rather than the "set and forget" RNG-based traps she has.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1435783#Comment_1435783

The efficiency does matter because the efficiency of cheesing the timer with the Pig is substantially less so than just camping the hook as Billy/Bubba or running to the cage as Pyramid Head. You may as well just save yourself the trouble with cheesing the RBT and just camp the hook instead. Like, it's just a phenomenally bad strategy.

No it doesn't matter. It simply doesn't. At least not to BHVR. Otherwise you wouldn't see them changing PH even though camping a cage wasn't an efficient way of playing.

And that whole "You may as well just save yourself the trouble with cheesting the RBT and camp the hook instead." thing is exactly what I mean. You can RBT somebody, crouch and stick near them while they're on hook, and just continuously pester them any time they try to get their trap off. You're not doing anything but bolstering my point by bringing that up. If they are going to continue their trend of removing toxic stuff like easy camping, then Pig definitely needs to come soon.

  • @TAG said:

From what I recall, the box that is chosen to open a given Trap is randomly determined when you slap that sucker on. In theory, you can simply make it so the box is chosen after you successfully search any box and will choose between the remaining boxes.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1435694#Comment_1435694

It's such an inefficient strategy that I can't see why they would go out of their way to rework an entire Killer just for that. At least with Bubba and Billy, the solution is pretty straightforward. Not so with Amanda.

I just said that it's not about the efficiency. It's about the fact that it's got the capability to be used in a toxic as hell way. It needs to be worked on or scrapped. Doesn't matter that it's not efficient. Neither is spending a bunch of time trying to get somebody tormented and then walking across the map and sitting on a cage, but they still changed something like that, even if not all players did that.

Funny thing you mention Bubba and Billy as well. As if they're not getting reworks.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1435513#Comment_1435513

Not the easiest thing to do in the world, considering that the Reverse Bear Trap is arguably the single most iconic trap in the SAW franchise.

And it's also one of the single most oppressive abilities in terms of tunneling. Not that nobody else can do it, like RN Leatherface still can, but they're apparently trying to remove strong hook camping and stuff with the way they're changing Leatherface and Billy to not allow them to rev forever.

Pig, at least after Leatherface gets his infinite rev removed, is going to be the most toxic killer to face just simply due to the fact that she can just shut one person down and tunnel the hell out of them and not let them get their bear trap off. It's already bad enough she can crouch which removes the possibility of Borrowed Time.

I'm not saying it's the most effective strategy but I can't help but groan when I see I'm going against a Pig, because I know more than likely if I go down once I'm done for because Pigs never want to leave me alone when I have a trap on my head. It's not fun to go against, or engaging, and it allows for super scummy play. They nerfed PH's ability to tunnel as effectively in a hotfix so IDK why they can't do something like that for Pig. Anything to make her less annoying to go against.

and should be cause for the devs re-evaluating how they launch anything regarding "balance" hotfixes beyond the typical bug/glitch fixes.

Foreword; I don't think devs wake up every morning thinking "how can I make lives worse for 1/5th~ the playerbase of my game (killers)" or that there is some secret conspiracy to get either killers or survivors to quit playing their game in general. Is there a slight bias? Sure. I think everyone has some opinion of which side is stronger than the other.

My issue with the patch is that there was no "give and take". Just a straight nerf to ALL Pyramid Heads without addressing any issues from PH players.

There were many complaints about Pyramid Head; Yes, the tunneling off of hook from the survivor's side (and the crappy "tormented" UI that wasn't changed); but also there were complaints from PH players of the controls of M2 feeling overly clunky, there were complaints of "caging" feeling useless/detrimental outside of extreme circumstances for PHs who DID NOT want to tunnel freshly uncaged survivors, there were complaints of PH's M2 ranged attack feeling too easy to dodge outside of locked animations (vaults/pallet throws).

The fact that only one side of complaints was addressed is what leads to the "lol survivor bias" mentality. How about BHVR doing a better job of communicating through action instead of patch notes that are either overwhelming survivor sided for months or overwhelmingly killer sided for months?

There has been MULTIPLE patches where I couldn't help but say to myself something along the lines of "wow, what a killer-sided patch. Are survivors done for?" and vice versa. That should never really happen. Seriously. Big changes, small changes. Throw both sides a bone to get excited for in EVERY patch outside of bug fixes, because it's very disheartening for dedicated players otherwise.

Whats strange is how quick they were to fix it yet leave camping/tunneling so prevalent in other killers (Ghostface/Deathslinger etc)

Can’t rely on perks either because I can’t force people to take DS or BT, and most of these killers with camp/tunnel problems are killers with little to no terror radius

Well said from you both. This is what I thought: they nerfed PH straight up but didn't give anything in return. I watched a Space Coconut video where he was saying that one change that could probably benefit PH and wouldn't be too overwhelming is to make his trail he makes jut out just a little bit in front of him so you can actually torment survivors that are pretty much right up in your face. Something as simple as that would have been nice.

Also, it was confusing to me that they left other high profile camper/tunneler killers unchanged, or at least they're hiding their plans for now if they do plan on changing them. Pig is an example I bring up all the time because she can remove terror radius by crouching meaning BT can't work. Same thing with Freddy, and he just does it passively too. Also with Ghost, they still haven't fixed his terrible detection radius. I went against a few yesterday and every time I couldn't reveal them. Even if I was right up behind them within lunge distance, staring at them. IDK how they let things like that pass, yet a bunch of people complain about being tunneled (when you have to let yourself get tormented first for it to happen) then it's suddenly "fixed" in a hotfix.

  • Rework her and remove the RBTs in favor of something else.

You get hit by it even when you aren't in his TR and his add ons can make his TR way bigger making it almost impossible to avoid on the small maps. His TR is deceving because of the special music. He definitely needs a few slight changes but not a nerf. Just a little balancing is all.

You only get hit by it if you're in the TR. They're correct. On top of that, you can completely avoid it if you just enter a locker. If you're that scared of his blast, then you either need to camp close enough to a locker that you can get to it within the 3 seconds or so Doc has to charge his power, or stay close enough to the edge of his terror radius to where you can run out of it while he's charging. You do either of those things, or you eat the blast and get on with it. The thing is with Doc, he just reveals you when that happens. If he comes after you, he's still an M1 killer with no mobility. Yeah he might be able to shock you when you're trying to loop him, but there's certain loops (usually the strong main tiles of the maps, like the asylum I think) where he can't really do much with his shock to stop you from looping him anyway. He's not like Nurse or Spirit where they're like right up on your rear even if you have a ton of distance on them.

I just don't think he's "too strong." I think he's at a sort of level where he's not OP but he's strong enough to be respected where people can't just bully a decent Doctor.

But you didn't talk about anything survivors do, and you've felt the need to basically say, "STOP THAT" to anyone who has.

Everything else I would say is in my previous post, so that's that I guess.

Because I don't need to talk about anything survivors do -- that isn't what the post is titled as. It's about people using sweaty and tryhard as an insult. The poster said they literally don't know what it means and they're asking.

This isn't about "what do survivors do" or "what do killers do," but I've gone from amused to weary of explaining this to you at this point. Go ahead, be that one guy in the post who tries making things into a killer v survivor debate and derailing conversations. That's that I guess.

  • I honestly don't see the problem with something like this being implemented. I know people have been bringing up that moonlight offering being removed, but here's my thought process:

I've always been under the impression that there's supposed to be more than one sort of playstyle. At least, I swear I've heard the devs say that before, specifically about some people wanting to have a sort of immersed playstyle. Now, have whatever opinion about the immersed playstyle that you want, but I like to think about the implications of having people allowed to play more stealthy. It would make tracking perks and killers more popular and shake things up a bit.

Plus we already have offerings that let people have advantages anyway. We have fog offerings to make fog more/less dense, we have the shroud offerings that affect survivor spawns, we have the infamous mori... I don't see the problem with having something like this that affects the weather or whatever. Not all survivors are going to blend very well with every setting. If there was for example, a snowy one, I don't think Claudettes would be very good at hiding should they be wearing a bunch of dark clothing.

Additionally, I like the idea of even having a "sunny day" one. Not every single one has to make the map stormy or whatever. A killer could even bring in an offering like that and try to get an advantage that way, and maybe we'd see killers bringing a different kind of offering in other than just bloodpoints and moris.

Something like this might not be reasonably possible as it might take a fair bit of work going back and doing things with each map, but somebody above mentioned that the game is constantly evolving and there's new things coming all the time, and I agree. I'm not saying it should be something that's added right away, but I would totally be interested in seeing this added to BHVR's to-do list.

Only when they're animation locked. If you have to rely on the survivor to do something before you're able to use your power, your power is not that good.

It's the same concept in Yu-Gi-Oh, decks that rely on your opponent doing something are considered very bad and don't work often because then your opponent can just not do the things you need them to do.

Yea except you don't have to use your power if they don't lock their animation. PH doesn't really have a downside to just using his power for half a second and then stopping, so there's nothing stopping him from just holding M2, waiting for you to take a window or drop a pallet, and then hitting you with an M1 when you don't do those things.

Anyway, the only time I had my hands on Yu-Gi-Oh cards was when I was very very little, so that sort of analogy doesn't really make sense to me. Not that it's a bad one, rather I just wouldn't know what you're talking about there.

Either way, I still don't think that changes anything. I've gone against PH more than any other killer within the past few days oddly enough, and every single one pretty much uses that tactic and it works pretty well. I'm not saying I'm necessarily a good player depending on your standards, but at the very least I'm not dumb so I do try to switch things up and be tricky, and I try to adapt to peoples' playstyles that I see have success against him. It's just simply not the hardest thing for PH to threaten you by holding his M2 down and then wait for you to either lock into an animation or not, and then cancel and just M1 if you don't.

Once again I'm not even saying that he's like top tier or anything, I just personally think that he's certainly pretty powerful if you know the little tricks to him, like knowing when/where to use his cages and just using your M2 in the aforementioned way. Definitely far from the worst licensed DLC: right now that would have to be Bubba, at least for the killer himself and not his perks because I know everybody loves BBQ.

    So dramatic.

No one jumped down your throat or white knighted anyone.

Fact is, though, that everything killers do gets bitched about. It's all "sweaty" or "toxic". Can't bring those addons, can't use that perk, shouldn't play that killer, hit this guy not that guy, why didn't you farm, I had a crown, give me hatch, etc.

Survivors would never not do everything it takes to win, but no one seems to think they're doing something wrong. It's just how it is. All second chance perks, 4 BNP's, skewed rank SWF to get matched against newbies and teabagging the gates? Haha, that's ok, just get good, baby killer!

So yeah, you'll have to pardon me if I just don't take any of the "sweaty killer killed someone" stuff seriously. Just get good, survivors!

    You did. LOL.

There's no drama anyway. Don't give yourself too much credit: you and many other people I talk to on here aren't worth being "dramatic." I'm just wondering why you, like many other people seem to, like to make things all about survivor vs. killer. I named one example of killers being sweaty and tryhard for the sake of answering the post and you have to reply to that with "but SWF do this." It is exactly those things.

You are here commenting back to me with a comment about survivor side. Tell me again how you're not "white knighting" for anything.

I'm not bitching about killer, I'm just simply giving an example of something that's sweaty and tryhard. I considered naming a SWF with all keys and Object of Obsession and DS and all that just as much. So it's not about picking one side or the other and I believe bringing that sort of mentality to the thread is unproductive.

  • I know, but I still want to know because it seems to be a thing with you trying to make it a killer v survivor thing.

  • I'm pretty sure they've said that they aren't going to do any sort of trickster/shapeshifter that turns into survivors.

But who knows, I guess anything could happen.

  • Nah he's deadly. He can threaten pallets so easily. I'm not gonna say he's top tier, but he's definitely lethal and I wouldn't call him the worst licensed character by far.

Doesn't make sense, since the killer doesn't see the cakes when they select their mori. Facecamping is another story, but the implication of ruining the cakes by the mori doesn't make sense.

That doesn't make any sense, because a killer can still use a mori in game and not be a complete dick about it. As you said, "facecamping is another story" and that's what I'm talking about. People who will literally do everything in their power just to shut everybody's game down, in the most scumbag way possible.

So yes, the implication does make sense. You can use a mori and not be a camping douche that moris off first hook. I'm not saying the act of bringing a mori in itself makes you a scumbag but there's definitely a scummy way to use it. Take a look at how people would mori animation cancel over and over back before the feature got removed: people will literally just do scumbag things just because they can. Honestly, the people responding and trying to make it about killer vs. survivor in their replies to me are probably exactly that kind of person. Either that or they're just trying to be combative for the sake of it.

I think it's hilarious how people are jumping in to white knight for killers because of what I said, just because it happens to be an example of a killer doing bad things. I could have said the "red rank SWF" example that other dude tried to bring up to me, but then it would just be the opposite, with survivors trying to get pissed and say "well what about killers doing blah blah." This isn't directed at you necessarily, but it's just funny how I give a perfectly on-topic example of what sweaty or tryhard would be (at least to most people, I would imagine) and I get people jumping down my throat about... IDEK what. I thought my example was perfectly fine.

No different than the red rank SWF's that do the same and end the game in 2 minutes when there's 5 cakes.

It might seem like an inefficient use of the cakes, but complaining that they played to win is silly. It's not on anyone to dictate how other people choose to play, which is what this comes off as.

(The only reason I get frustrated by it is that when I kill people they complain that there were cakes, so I should go easy...and when I go easy they just rush gens and end the game before anyone gets any points. So eventually I just stop thinking about what they want and play however I feel. Break out skill check Doc, get 32k with 5 cakes and 5 gens up. Yay. I get way more points just playing normally than when I farm, anyway.)

It's not about SWF or killer exclusively. I just gave an example. The fact that you have to say "No different than the red rank SWF's" shows some bias. Nobody tries comparing the things like that unless they're trying to make it about one side vs. the other, and that's clearly not what this is about.

So please don't try to make this into a survivor vs. killer competition. I gave one example that stuck out to me because there's not a lot that people can do against being tunneled and mori'd off first hook. The killer is a lot more in control of the game, at least in a 1v1 aspect, so they have the capability to just completely shut somebody's game down and not even let them get like 3k points if they really want to. I don't give a rat's ass TBH if there's a survivor equivalent to that, so don't try to make that what this is about please. I do understand what you're saying, because I prefer playing killer anyway but still I hate that us vs. them crap. It's not productive.

Did you read the threads you posted to me?

"I would say it's the other way around. Your skill determines your rank (to an extent). Good players will rank up, not so great players stay a lower rank. There's exceptions to this (emblem system edge cases, SWF, etc.), but it does stay generally true.

I know it's popular to say "rank means nothing", but there are people who get to a point where they no longer rank up. At the time I'm posting this, there's a thread on the front page of General Discussions of a guy who's having a hard time getting past rank 16. Likewise, there's also people who will tell you that red ranks are sweaty.

Rank isn't everything though. It isn't a perfect 1:1 reflection of your skill, but it's a nice estimate."

Kinda goes against that whole "rank is meaningless" thing you were saying rofl.

As for the rest, I think I'm just gonna pass on responding tbh. You literally state I'm nitpicking about what a "win" is, but then nitpick my analogy to death rofl. It's just silly. I'd rather just agree to disagree on that.

Yes I did. They all say that rank isn't a good indicator of skill.

I've given you reasoning, I've given you posts to read, so if you can't understand by this point there's no hope for you, so I'm done here.

  • Example: Got 4 cakes stacked in a game, only for the killer to bring an ebony mori, facecamp, and mori people off first hook? Playing with every possible advantage even when it's not even necessary, just because you need to to win?

That's a sweaty tryhard. And yes, I have killers do that ######### to me. If you don't call that sweaty or tryhard, IDK what you would call it.

  • I'm wondering a similar thing: are things like this bannable? Like, can we get somebody's account taken away from it? I would really like it if these morons that I've been getting recently that just spam loud noise notifications and get me killed could have some sort of actual threat to them for doing something like that.

Just take away their 20 dollars every time they try to act up like that. I've been considering buying a large hard drive just so I can get footage of people being douchebags in game. If we had the chance to get people like that to lose their account, time, and money, I'm sure they wouldn't be so quick to be stupid in game.

Honestly, imagine how much better it would be for all of us if we could just catch somebody acting up, get them banned, and also be getting BHVR more money whenever some troll wants to rejoin to troll more. Just let them keep the money coming if they want to keep trolling. Eventually people will run out of money, especially because you can guarantee people that have that little to do with their time more than likely are leading a sad unsuccessful life and don't have a lot of money to spend.

"The point of me saying that is to show that I did it when things were worse off, so it's not impossible during this age of the game."

Who ever claimed it was "impossible"? It's just unpleasant and (imo) a waste of my time. I'd rather go play other games if this is going to be my experience here. At least putting time into those other games facilitates rewarding progression and not... whatever this is.

"That doesn't change the fact that people are still whining over perfectly winnable games."

You can claim that, but you can't know that. Because if the ranking system is as ######### up as you claim? Then it's a crap-shoot. You can never know what games are winnable or not. It's literally impossible because there's no metric to determine skill. Maybe some are. Maybe they aren't. Point is, you don't know either. You can't use the ranking system as a justification for your argument claiming games are winnable, but then claim ranking is irrelevant when it's useful for you... That's really how it seems from my perspective.

"That cake analogy is horrible. Knowing a rank system isn't the same as knowing a cake "tastes like [BAD WORD].""

I mean that's an opinion. I disagree. I don't need to know how something functions or how it was created to realize that something is wrong simply by experiencing it. To return to the cake analogy, I might not be able to pinpoint the exact issue, maybe the butter went bad, or the milk soured, who knows? But it's easy to tell if it's bad lol.

"Because like I said, the rank systems are not similar. You literally cannot argue on that basis, so don't even try making that comparison."

They don't have to be. This is the thing you don't seem to consider at all. It doesn't matter if the ranking systems are completely unrelated, there will always be a skill gap. It doesn't matter what game it is. There will ALWAYS be high skill players and low skill players. And I highly doubt that a low skill player is going to perform better at the game than someone with markedly higher skill, knowledge, experience, etc. So of course a higher skill player will be more proficient at completing arbitrary tasks within the game to get medals and stuff. Hence why the GM player will always have a gold over the bronze player. Even if the systems are different, the same is true for this game, and every other competitive game as well.

"if you think it is, go watch the devs say it themselves and tell them how stupid it is."

Gladly. Point me to the video. If they actually say that, I'll be more than happy to tell shout into the void at the devs, telling them how ridiculous that is. But since they aren't fixing the rank system, and they're fixing the matchmaking system? I kinda wonder if they weren't just trying to save their own asses and placate the playerbase without realizing what they were saying... But I'm going out on a limb here. Haven't seen it. Just a feeling I've got all things considered. Could be 100% wrong.

"I mean no disrespect when I say that you don't know how it works. I'm just simply saying that if you don't know how the system functions, then you probably aren't going to get a good idea of how effective it actually is."

Well, if it isn't ranking player skill, then it's not effective at all, is it lol?

People act like it's impossible. They say they can't win against swf blah blah blah, typical excuses. If you'd rather play other games, go play other games. Nobody is stopping you.

I can claim that, and I can know that. Because there's always some mistake somebody made that could have not been made. That whole "You can't use the ranking system as a justification for your argument claiming games are winnable, but then claim ranking is irrelevant when it's useful for you..." BS is also senseless. Nothing but a nitpick. Don't reduce it down to a game of definitions please, you know what I mean by "winning." I still think the system is stupid but most people I see consider "winning" to be getting at least a couple kills.

You can disagree it's a horrible analogy but that doesn't make it any more clear to others. You knowing how to bake a cake isn't going to influence how the cake tastes to you obviously, but knowing how a system works is completely different, and you can tell a lot by knowing what a system does and how it operates. Once again, terrible analogy.

Yes, the ranking systems do have to be similar. Otherwise you're comparing apples to oranges. They are fundamentally different things. You can't compare them.

We’ve observed a growing Community concern about matchmaking in recent months. Matchmaking wait times have exceeded our targeted limits and we’ve seen rank disparities fluctuate. In this Status Update, we will go in details on factors impacting the matchmaking, our current matchmaking system and our future solutions.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/793/ZSC8B6CPRDCP.png

Above are the three variable factors in matchmaking, with a fourth being the number of players on each role, with an ideal ratio of 4 survivors for 1 killer at all times. When dealing with matchmaking, we need to decide how much to focus on each of the factors. If we focus on one point, the other points will see some sort of impact. For example, if we focus on time, your matches will likely end up being less fair, and you might get paired with people further away. Dedicated servers have helped us ensure a stable connection, with over 90% of players being put into matches with 150 ping and under. Our goal is to get you into a match as quickly as possible with a good connection, without compromising too much on fairness.

This is a difficult task in a game like Dead by Daylight, where both sides have different objectives and cannot be directly compared to one another. We’ve attempted to address this in the past with the Emblem system, but upon further review, we’ve concluded that rank does not directly correlate to skill. While a player who plays a lot will tend to be better than someone who plays very little, there are also players who are good at the game but don’t play enough to reach the upper ranks.

To help improve with the fairness factor without sacrificing wait times or pings, we will be making two changes. The first is a new system to better reflect a player’s skill level, and the second is a change to the matchmaking system to create fairer matches.

Going forward, we will use a hidden skill rating for matchmaking purposes. Your skill rating will increase when you do well and decrease when you do poorly. To keep this as fair as possible, the system will predict the outcome of the match based on the difference in your opponent(s) rating and adjust the amount your rating changes:

    • If your rating is higher than your opponent(s), your rating will increase less if you win and drop more if you lose.
    • If your rating is lower than your opponent(s), your rating will increase more if you win and drop less if you lose.

This way, even if you aren’t perfectly matched with people of the exact same skill level, your rating will not change unfairly.

In the future, we would like to extend this system to support different ratings for each killer, allowing you to practice a new killer without being immediately matched against high skilled players. This may not be included in the initial launch of the feature.

Additionally, to make sure that your matches are as fair as possible, we will be switching over to “batch matchmaking”.

Currently, our matchmaking system takes the player in queue and looks for a match close to their rank. If it is unable to find an appropriate match, it will gradually expand the search range until it is able to give you a match. This can lead to both unfair matches and long queue times.

The new batch matchmaking will instead pool a larger number of players together, compare their skill levels, and then create the fairest matches possible simultaneously. With a larger pool to pick from, we hope to improve the fairness factor of matchmaking while also keeping pings and wait times low.

The release of these changes will be gradual. With the release of the mid-chapter update, we are able to start tracking skill levels. For the time being, this is only a test and is not being used for matchmaking purposes. Once we are confident that the skill rating is working as intended, we will be running tests on live servers.

When this happens, you may notice some disparity in ranks during your matches. This is to be expected as rank will no longer be used for matchmaking purposes at this time. To avoid confusion, we are considering removing ranks from the post-match scoreboard once testing is complete, as they will no longer be relevant to matchmaking. Ranks will remain visible only to you for bragging rights and a goal to work towards, but will be a reflection of your dedication to the game rather than skill for the time being.

We are confident that these changes will allow us to create fairer matches without losing sight of our goals; to get you into a match as soon as possible with a solid connection. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on our progress as we move forward.

Read 'em and weep. Multiple examples of the rank system being described as not being a good measurement of skill.

No. It's not effective. That's my whole point. IDK how else I can put it to you.
