You do realize items are in the game for a reason and first if you chase a good killer you're guaranteed to get hit but what if you loop him all game?! Ive done that while injured and to think I get. punished for not killing myself is ######### and if this is the new Franklin's then we need a perk to delete killer add ons mid game if we escape a chase then or something because I have NOT stocked up SO MANY ITEMS TO LOSE THEM TO BAD KILLERS

If you loop them all game then they aren't a good killer. Be glad you do that, not upset about losing an item.

  • Other than getting the achievement, what's the point of even getting the pips? They don't do anything. They don't even give you an award at the end of a "season" or anything.

To me I care just if I had a chance to play the game in general.

Well, I wrote out a long, thoughtful post in response to this, but something happened and it's gone. So I'm gonna try to make this quicker...

"Game was just as bad, if not worse, when I first started playing. Guess what? I adapted. Now I'm used to the game."

You adapted to crap. Congrats. You can be fine putting up with that, but I'm not. And it's still broken.

"Like I said, you can have your opinions, but you better know how the systems you're talking about work before you actually start complaining about them."

I don't have to know how to bake a cake to know if it tastes like #########. And I don't have to know how these systems work to know if something feels broken.

"That's why I comment on posts like these telling them to stop complaining about the ranking system. It's not a comparable system to other ELO systems you might get in League of Legends or Overwatch, or whatever other competitive game."

People who play Overwatch make the same arguments about medals in that game. And guess what? They're wrong. If you take a GM player and a Bronze player and put them on the same team, and make them compete for medals (regardless of role), the bronze is gonna lose every time. I don't know every metric they use in this game's ranking system, but if it's as meaningless as you claim (which honestly I don't believe, because it's just too stupid)? Then they need to just remove and rework the system entirely. If what you're saying is true, it's doing more harm than good.

Yes, I adapted to crap. The point of me saying that is to show that I did it when things were worse off, so it's not impossible during this age of the game. Yeah, it's still broken, and I even said it needs to change (which it is, so it's pointless even bringing that up.) That doesn't change the fact that people are still whining over perfectly winnable games.

That cake analogy is horrible. Knowing a rank system isn't the same as knowing a cake "tastes like #########."

"If you take a GM player and a Bronze player..."

No. You can stop there already. A GM vs. a bronze is nowhere near the same thing as people whining about rank in this game. Because like I said, the rank systems are not similar. You literally cannot argue on that basis, so don't even try making that comparison.

I also just noticed after posting this that you said you don't believe me when I say the rank system is meaningless, because it's "too stupid." All I have to say to that is: if you think it is, go watch the devs say it themselves and tell them how stupid it is. Otherwise, don't come to me continuously insisting that the rank system is one that's comparable to other ones like in Overwatch, because as I said, it literally isn't. You admit yourself you don't know how the system works, and that's exactly why I said you better know how the system works before you start complaining about it: you are ignorant to the fact that it is not a legitimate ranking system meant to judge people based on skill. You keep bringing up things with that idea in mind, and it's clear that the reason is because you honestly just don't know how it works.

I mean no disrespect when I say that you don't know how it works. I'm just simply saying that if you don't know how the system functions, then you probably aren't going to get a good idea of how effective it actually is.

  • That's a tough one.

I'd say BT but only by a little: both are situational, but BT is less situational. I think BT has a really strong effect that could be very non-situational, but the fact that there's several killers that can just negate the perk by shutting off their terror radius makes it feel relatively useless in certain games.

Similarly, Soul Guard has powerful effect but it's tied to the condition of getting up from dying, and has the extra effect of being like an "infinite Unbreakable" allowing you to pick yourself up as many times as you want as long as there's a hex totem. It's not uncommon to go against a hex, but that's also another condition (and a pretty powerful one at that) that can be taken away if just 1 thing doesn't go to planned, and they don't bring a hex.

Overall I'd have to say BT is better simply because of the longer endurance and the fact that it can be used in such an aggressive style, but they're both still pretty conditional.

People are complaining daily because it's a huge issue. Matchmaking is bad, and it's facilitating awful matches. I just bought the game, and even to a new player, it's shocking how bad this is. I'm more surprised that people aren't speaking out more. But I figure that's because the devs have stated they're working on it...

Regardless, if what you're saying about the ranking system is true? It's just as laughably broken and needs to be reworked too. Because defending a ranking system that isn't really a rankings system, and getting upset at people who mistake it for a rankings system is kinda stupid.

No offense, but I believe it's probably shocking to you because you're a new player.

Game was just as bad, if not worse, when I first started playing. Guess what? I adapted. Now I'm used to the game.

Yeah, the system does need to be reworked. You can say it's "kinda stupid" to defend a "ranking system that isn't really a rankings system" because you're allowed to have your opinion. I don't see a lot of people "defending" the system either. I just see that the system isn't representative of skill, so that people complaining about it being the cause of their losses is more of a "kinda stupid" thing than anything if you ask me. The devs talk about their plans a lot and if people refuse to keep up with the news of the game, and continue to whine about something that's currently being worked on, then that's just somebody being ignorant and not understanding what things are happening surrounding the game.

You said it yourself that you just bought the game, so I wouldn't expect you to know all this. However, that doesn't make it any less true that the devs have already talked about this several different times. Complaining about it is about as pointless as complaining about "omg Bubba needs a buff" when they've released leaks of the changes to Bubba. It's pointless, it's something that's already been addressed, and nobody wants to see the same repetitive thing spammed over and over, especially coming from people who don't know how the system works in the first place.

Like I said, you can have your opinions, but you better know how the systems you're talking about work before you actually start complaining about them. I see people say things like "I'm just upset that I depipped" or something like that, when people aren't even realizing that pips don't matter. It just shows that people that complain about this kind of thing aren't actually privy to what's going on in the game -- that's why it's silly.

That's why I comment on posts like these telling them to stop complaining about the ranking system. It's not a comparable system to other ELO systems you might get in League of Legends or Overwatch, or whatever other competitive game. Trying to act like it is such does nothing but undermine your own opinion.

  • I'm not understanding how that's "too much" though.

Items aren't a necessity. They're like little boosts. IDK maybe it's just because I like challenging myself, but I feel like bringing an item is like a crutch. I know that word gets tossed around a lot but set that aside for a second. I feel like while items obviously are helpful, they're not absolutely vital. A lot of people don't run items and still escape and I just feel like if somebody is relying on items to get out every game, they probably aren't that good of a player. Same thing with people who just run around spamming ebony mori and iridescent addons -- it's just for the sake of things being easy. If somebody can take that item and delete it (especially on a 90 second timer) I don't see what's so bad about that, especially because as I said, items aren't a necessity.

"But that isn't how it works in DbD."

And maybe that's the problem. Clearly people aren't happy with random skill-gapped matches. Even if what you're saying about ranks being meaningless is true (which I don't know if I agree with), that doesn't justify the matchmaking being unpredictable and broken.

Now that is a reasonable thing to say. I agree with you there that there should be good matchmaking, but I simply think that DbD just doesn't work like that right now. That's why I think it's pointless to complain about matchmaking like we see people doing every day.

They've talked about their upcoming matchmaking update for a while now and yet people still make the same "omg I'm green/purple rank and I got matched with red rank and I lost, stupid matchmaking!" posts. I'm fine with people wanting good matchmaking but when it comes down to games that people could have totally won and are just blaming things, it doesn't really show anything but how somebody isn't able to handle the competition.

Justified or not, the matchmaking is the way it is now and it isn't skill-based, so anybody who complains that they're losing simply because of rank just comes across as silly. Wanting a better system, sure that's fine. Go to BHVR for that, but constantly making posts like I mentioned before when matchmaking is meaningless right now is... Well, meaningless.

I read in another thread about holding the game hostage, that survivors only have to emote (and not move) to ward off the afk crows.

Yes I suppose that's true. I'm not entirely sure how the crows work, but that's just the first time I've heard of something like this happening to this degree.

  • Refer to Nurse as an example. Probably could be balanced, but simply having the capability to ignore obstacles alone makes her really hard to make consistent -- she's going to be bad in some peoples' hands and really strong in the hands of somebody that knows how to play her.

Could it be balanced? Yea, but it would probably be about as easy as balancing something on the end of a needle -- it's difficult to keep something like that from falling to one side or the other.

  • Just lucky/unlucky (depending on how you look at it) I guess. I usually just see random stuff, it never seems to follow a pattern. Sometimes I'll get the same killer a few times in a day, or even in a row, but it's always being switched up. I go against Oni, Freddy, Legion, Leatherface, Trapper, Plague, Nurse, Huntress... I guess pretty much all of them.

  • The devs said they're looking into changing DS more IIRC, so hopefully they implement some way that it gets disabled for doing certain actions or something.

Until then, there's always the good old mori counter.

  • The battle cry he does is probably the best part about the upcoming changes.

Top rank players should not be able to choose to face newbie players. That's it. If you can't agree with that, then fine, but don't dance around it.

    God you're dense.

Fine, I won't try to get you to understand that rank isn't indicative of skill and therefore top rank is meaningless. Stay in your own little bubble instead of actually addressing any points I made. Have fun contributing 0 to a discussion and misusing words.

That's why you don't worry about whether you pipped or depipped. Because the rank system doesn't mean anything.

It's not that hard of a concept to grasp and yet people still come at me like this one guy claiming I'm "deflecting" by trying to say that the ranks mean nothing and that people who come on and complain about rank and use it as a reason for their loss.

No functioning matchmaking system should pair newbies with top tier players. (It definitely shouldn't let the top tier players CHOOSE to face the newbies)

    That's it. Full stop.

It's not just deflection. You just are simply missing the simple message I'm putting across:

    The rank system

    in DbD

    is not representative of skill.

There is no functioning matchmaking system.

that moment when someone says "hey your service isn't in line with other games in the market as to what you charge for and the content that we receive" and the response is don't play.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's not entitlement to advocate for a better product for the consumer it's called respecting the money that I spend and the time that I invest. you say videogames aren't the hobby for me and yet the rest of the videogame market is offering better deals on how they distribute content. Path of Exile is a completely free game with thousands of hours worth of content and yet it doesn't charge a dime for any of its content besides cosmetics. They are a much much smaller dev team of barely over 10 people and yet they constantly pump out free content. there are so many games that dont charge for additional gameplay content, a lot of which are multiplayer games. Overwatch, fortnite, dota2, csgo, halo5, cod MW, Apex Legends, Minecraft, Terraria, stardew valley, escape from tarkov, no mans sky, sea of thieves, the list goes on and on. Hell even another 4v1 game in RE:Resistance offers all of it's gameplay content for free as well as all of its cosmetics.

Im not asking for a hand out, im asking for dbd to not treat me like a whale and to not take advantage of people who have addictive tendencies. It's the socially and morally responsible thing to do. The amount of ways that they monetize their game is abhorrently disgusting and takes advantage of those rare few who cannot say no to buying everything that they shill because guess what they have a problem and BHVR actively knows about and takes advantage of it.

In the past few years gamers have started to take a stand against shady business practices that prey on those who cant stop. Lootboxes, time gates, high prices for little content, general money gouging. All of it designed to suck as much money as it can from you and when you stop giving it money its no longer targeting you but the person who is still opening their wallet. DBD is not and will not be safe from this. You can see it in the forums more and more of how disappointed people are with the new content, with the price of skins, with the insane amount of grind you need to do just to keep up with the game, not to mention the grind that new players are put through that gets worse and worse as time passes. yet they stay because they love this game, Because I love this game. Eventually it will come to a head. unfortunately there will be people like you who feel no empathy nor want to understand the point of view of others who feel differently than you on a problem that you don't think and refuse to think exists.

Yet, I want to try and give you a chance to give your point of view, I want to be able to listen to what you have to say and stay open to how you feel. If I cant do that for you than how could I ever expect you to do the same for me, yet I fear you wont offer me the same in return.

Thanks for watering down my post like that. Because the only thing I said is "don't play."

Your response already isn't worth reading just based off that beginning.

Actually, ranks does matter. Red ranks play way differently, even a green rank play differently than a red rank. Red ranks will run the meta perks at tier III. It's like those boxing coachs that say to newbies "punch before you get punched" and they spar like those newbies where professionals when obviously they lack of skill and experience and you say "well, it's the newbie fault" and it's not true, the newbie need to start somewhere and learn skills, spar with someone who is more or less the same experience or if it's a coach, lower your lever so the newbie can get some skills.

You're already just wrong when you make a statement like "Red Ranks play way differently, even a green rank play differently than a red rank."

No, that's simply false. Somebody doesn't adapt a playstyle simply because they have a certain colored number near their name. I've seen literal brown ranks playing like red ranks, and red ranks playing like browns. I see red ranks do absolutely stupid things, like (after the PH cage change) one of the survivors in my group (not premade) starts running up to the cage I'm in with Pyramid Head right behind him, and instead of letting me teleport away (like the cage does after the change) he is instead bound and determined to uncage me, and does it right in front of Pyramid Head.

I see every rank running all the "meta perks at tier III" as well. It's not just red ranks.

The boxing analogy doesn't make sense. DbD isn't boxing. There aren't weight classes or other innate advantages/disadvantages you may get from physical build, such as height. Also, it's different when it's chance-based with an algorithm handling the matchmaking than having some coach put you up against some guy of his choosing. DbD also isn't 1v1, or even a sport to begin with for that matter. I've had some other person trying to bring up Basketball as a comparison, and it's also ridiculous for the same reason: there's no inherent advantage/disadvantage in this game from player to player. Just because your rank is a certain number, that has no bearing on how good the survivors or killer are.

Do not try to say that people play a certain way or have a certain amount of skill just because they're ranked a certain way.

I understand that people of lower rank will often be less experienced (because they obviously play less, as that's what the ranks represent) but that doesn't change anything about what I'm saying: people will post screenshots of games that are totally winnable, but they lost or DC'd or whatever and then they'll just say "Omg the matchmaking is so bad all i get is red rank players to go against" instead of thinking "Hey, maybe I could have played a little better that game and maybe I would have been more successful." People use this whole rank system as a scapegoat to blame things on.

Once again, yes I'm aware that newer players are obviously going to have a hard time against more experienced players. Fact of the matter is, you still can change that by playing better. It's obviously not fair to put the very very best against the very very worst, but that often times isn't the case. Most games I see can reasonably be won. The one in the OP is a perfect example: sure it's green vs. red ranks, but it's far from being a full squad of meta perks. One of the players doesn't even have 4 perks. The killer even had NOED, and 2 green addons (which are both pretty good on Bubba.)

People like to act like the number next to somebody's name determines how good they are at DbD. It doesn't.

People like to compare this "ranking" system compared to the ones in other games. You can't.

Rank isn't indicative of skill. - devs

Well if you dont take the Time to read and understand why I'm saying what I'm saying then I cant help you with that..I'm saying your naive because your using the "itll only effect you if your bad" argument which is frankly not helpful nor does it really view you as someone who does their own analytical thinking and just follow the easy argument that truthfully has proof stacked against it...I simply wish to shatter that myth

Half the ######### you say here doesn't even make sense. "nor does it really view you as someone who does their own analytical thinking and just follow the easy argument" What? I think I get what you're saying but jeez, barely. Maybe that doesn't help for people who "dont take the Time to read and understand."

I did read what you said and I simply disagree. You just can't say anything against what I'm saying. You can call me naive all you want but that doesn't change the fact that what I said is true. It is "helpful" because it's me telling you why the change isn't that bad, as you are suggesting. It's me putting out an opposing point of view and if you refuse to see that, you are the naive one. That, or you just aren't looking for an actual discussion.

That's probably why all you can do is make random statements like that I'm "naive" and "nor does it really view you as someone who does their own analytical thinking and just follow the easy argument..." Acting as if you have "proof stacked against it" or that you wish to shatter a "myth."

You're delusional if you actually believe the things you're saying: that I'm "naive" or someone who doesn't do "their own analytical thinking" just for trying to tell you that the change isn't going to be that bad if you know how to play Billy. That shows that I'm not those things, while yourself... You aren't making a good case for yourself by just making random asinine statements like that.

its absolutley anti consumer when gameplay features are locked behind a paywall/timed rng wall. just take BBQ for example. if we just look at how often it was in the shrine in 2018 and 2019 it was in there for a total of 3 times in 2 years, all of which were in 2019. how is that friendly to new players who just bought the game?

It's laughable that DBD can get away with selling gameplay content for cash when most games do all gameplay content for free and just charge for the cosmetic stuff.

It's not a paywall when you can get things for free. If you can't pay up anything, and you don't have time to play, you probably shouldn't be spending your time on video games.

I'm not saying the shrine is perfect, and in fact I have issues with it too, but unless you want to complain about the shrine which I understand, anything else you'd be suggesting that I can think of would just be getting entitled. You don't get things just handed to you because you want them, you gotta work a little for it. That's why the option to pay is there: in case people really don't want to grind. If you don't have money or don't want to pay, that's when you work for it.

Licensed killers are a whole other topic, but as far as original characters that you can get for shards, there's not a paywall, and if you don't have the time to play the game and grind for the shards then maybe playing games isn't the best hobby for you.

You cant curve as much..curving requires feathering the saw which you cannot reliably do with these changes based on the footage given..that's for one..for two less ability to use the saw is free gen tome..that effects everyone..dbd is a numbers game..you add down time on killers it affects everyone..its naive to believe otherwise

Except those aren't issues whatsoever if you can hit your saws. Can't curve as much? You can still curve. Hit them and you won't be punished. His mobility isn't being hindered either so your ability to get to gens shouldn't be a problem either.

It's not naive to think otherwise. I just believe that if you're a good Billy this will barely have an effect on you. Keep calling it things like "naive" though. Love to hear it coming from somebody who thinks that Billy needs more in his kit.

  • If you don't want the character, don't get it. Wait for the perks instead. Simple as that.

That's nowhere close to "anti-consumer" when you can pick up the characters (except licensed ones) and perks without paying a penny.

I'm not "blaming my losses on matchmaking". My losses are because I have drastically less time, experience, and skill in this game when compared to my opponents. But obviously matchmaking contributes to that, considering it's the reason I'm being paired up against people much more capable. It's not an excuse, it's just a reality.

And if ranks have no bearing on skill, then what is the point of ranking in the first place? The entire point of ranked play in games is to rank players according to skill so that they can compete with others at the same level and climb the ladder. So if that isn't how it works in this game, I'd say their ranking system is broken too. But I don't think it really is... The few times I've been paired solely with people roughly around my ranking? Great, fun, enjoyable matches. And it's a bit odd that all the games that go really horribly are the ones against single digit ranked players...

"Plenty of people, myself included, are perfectly fine being taught by getting thrown into the fray."

I mean that's great. I'm happy for you. But legitimate matchmaking systems exist out there, where the player's competition is adjusted based on their skill level in order to provide a fair game. I don't think a working matchmaking system like that is too much to ask for. And it seems the devs agree since they're reworking the system. Just not fast enough.

Honestly? It speaks volumes that you're pretending I'm entitled because I want fair matches that scale with skill, and I don't want to play hundreds of hours of miserable, joyless, one-sided matches for until I "git gud" and they finally start matching me with some new players. It's kind of absurd.

"I'm not 'blaming my losses on matchmaking'."

"My losses are because I have drastically less time, experience, and skill in this game when compared to my opponents. But obviously matchmaking contributes to that"

Sounds like exactly what you're doing. Otherwise, there's 0 reason to bring it up in relation to your rough game.

"And if ranks have no bearing on skill, then what is the point of ranking in the first place?" There is none. That's my point. Their rank system is "broken." It doesn't measure skill. you may not think it's broken, but it is. Anybody who knows anything about how the pip system works knows this.

"I mean that's great. I'm happy for you. But legitimate matchmaking systems exist out there, where the player's competition is adjusted based on their skill level in order to provide a fair game." I mean, that's great. But that isn't how it works in DbD.

You say yourself, the devs are reworking the system. You think there's a reason for that, perhaps?

"Honestly? It speaks volumes that you're pretending I'm entitled because I want fair matches that scale with skill, and I don't want to play hundreds of hours of miserable, joyless, one-sided matches for until I "git gud" and they finally start matching me with some new players." Honestly? It speaks volumes that you're trying to put words in my mouth because I criticize what you're complaining about, and don't want to read hundreds of posts of miserable, joyless, one-sided people.

I am saying that rank has nothing to do with skill. Take it how you will, but anything beyond that is just your imagination and feelings making things up.

But yea, I'm toootally acting like you're entitled when I say "It's scapegoating because you're blaming the matchmaking (where ranks have no bearing on skill) on the fact that you lost." Don't really think you're aware of what that word means.

They say hes performing very reasonably yet they add something that will hurt ALL players..its unwise to thi k otherwise..ergo he should receive something so he doesnt potentially drop to underpowered levels which this could easily do if handled poorly..makes no sense to flat nerf a character when swf is more powerful

It doesn't hurt all players. People who know how to time their saws well won't be affected, while people who mindlessly spam it are going to suffer. It's just like the change they did to Nurse. People didn't need her to have 5 blinks with no cooldown in between because it made it so it didn't matter how much you dodged, and didn't reward skillful gameplay. Same thing with Billy now. He can't just mindlessly use his power and keep infinitely missing and keep coming back from it no matter what.

He doesn't need anything. If he does "drop to underpowered levels" it's probably going to be due to the fact that people can't play him well. He can end games very quickly if you don't constantly miss, and he has probably the best mobility in the game.

I'd like for you to give me a good example of how an actual good Hillbilly player is going to be affected by the overheat.

  • I think many would disagree.

Also, as for the "I know I know, ANOTHER FNAF post, but I've seen about 50 posts about DS or Moris so I'm sure it's fine." I don't know if you realize, but people don't exactly enjoy constantly seeing the same post about pretty much anything like 50 times over. Including the DS and mori threads.

  • TBH, wouldn't mind them re-releasing legacy. Maybe I'm biased just because I don't have it, but my thought process here is that they already stated they're against exclusives apparently, and even if the grind was long before, I don't think anybody can deny that the grind they have right now is very long as well, and it's only going to get longer with each new content release.

I know it's a special kinda thing or whatever, but if the whole mindset is "they spent time grinding this bloodweb for a long time," I don't see the difference between doing it back then and doing it afterwards as well, if people are going to be putting in just as much work into filling out their setups. Again though, maybe I just don't get it as a player who didn't play back then. So maybe my comparisons between the grind before and the grind now are wrong. I just don't see how it could be that much worse when they only had so many characters to level up back then, whereas now we have, what... double? As I said as well, the number is just going to keep getting bigger.

  • I find it weird that you say something like "it adds nothing to Billy" when he didn't really need anything added. He's already strong.

It really depends on how they do the numbers, but I don't imagine it will be the end of good Billy players. It just makes it to where people can't just mindlessly spam chainsaw and pretend they're like an infinite T3 Myers with mobility like a bionic crackhead.

I do agree with you though that hit validation and the vault speed build make things a bit weird though.

  • I hope they don't stop trying to release killers just because some people don't like learning all of them.

  • And how would we determine what players are "toxic" enough to be in the special matchmaking?

  • I could've sworn games are already flooded with moris.

  • They had no crows on them? You mean they just evaded you for a full hour and more?

I mean, they were jerks about it of course. I'm just wondering how the game lasted that long. Usually even if the survivors keep hiding and whatnot it doesn't even take me half an hour ever to find them. Maybe even 20 minutes tops.

Or he went up against a squadded SWF, which by looking at the survivor's perks, it appears to be the case. Bubba, or any base movement speed killer is no fun vs a squadded SWF.

Sounds more like an issue with balance than matchmaking.

Also, I don't see what gives you the idea it's a SWF.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/BKYJR2XS5B52/awful-matchmaking.jpg

I've owned the game for less than a week. Even I'm sick of this. It's awful, and I can't believe people would defend this...

How am I supposed to get skilled when I get stomped out every match because the matchmaking is broken? I wait 10 minutes to play a game, and lose almost immediately because I'm matched against people who have played the game for drastically longer, and have way more skill and game knowledge. How is that fair?

Blaming the actual problem isn't scapegoating... It's pointing out the obvious.

It's scapegoating because you're blaming the matchmaking (where ranks have no bearing on skill) on the fact that you lost.

You just need to get better. Improve, and so will your rank (which again, has nothing to do with actual skill.

You ask "How am I supposed to get skilled when I get stomped out every match because the matchmaking is broken?" You don't get stomped every game because the matchmaking is broken. You get stomped because you're new and obviously don't know enough about the game to succeed. Plenty of people, myself included, are perfectly fine being taught by getting thrown into the fray.

It's common in video games: that's how all my friends learn how to play Smash Bros. with each other. Anybody new who plays with us usually sucks, but they improve really fast because they play against people who know how to play a little. You don't have to play against braindead potatoes to learn. You won't get skilled by playing against those kinds of people.

  • I like the idea. I don't know exactly how "healthy" or "good" it would be for the game but it sounds interesting nonetheless. Would be pretty cool to see perks with additional effects like "if you only have 1 kind of X perk" or "if using this paired with Y kind of perk" or other things, and have different combos that could be used. The only thing that comes to mind that would be unfavorable IMO is the possibility for the devs to go too far with it, like if they put too much force into one kind of meta and choked out other sorts of playstyles.

I also like it because of the way it could be used against certain perks. I've been around some discussion about having certain perks limited in games, like not allowing more than X amount of this kind of perk (usually being said about Decisive Strike.)

  • IDK if I'm "really really" excited but I do think it will be nice. I've been thinking about running the perk myself recently, because IDK what it is but for some reason flashlight blinds seem to be really hard to avoid recently. I'm usually pretty good about it but I feel like there's times where I'll be facing right up against a wall close enough to kiss it, and I'll still have a survivor off to the side of my screen completely out of my sight hit me with a flashlight while I'm picking another one up.

IDK, maybe it was a change that was made a while back. If anybody has an educational video showing the exact angles that are flashlight-stunnable, let me know. I could just be doing it wrong, but these flashlights seem really out of wack recently to me.

  • I don't usually enjoy meme posts that much...

I like this one though. :)

  • Yea, I pretty much had the same thoughts. People are complaining a heft amount for such an insignificant change. As you said, it depends on the numbers, but the overheat meter seems to fill up reeeeeally slowly while you're actually sprinting, to the point where it's not going to overheat often just from one sprint. Even if it overheats while you're sprinting, it still allows you to continue the sprint until completion.

It's like, the only kinds of Billy players I imagine this ever affecting are the ones I personally find annoying: the ones who do absolutely nothing but just backrev you and just chainsaw, chainsaw, chainsaw, chainsaw, giving you no real room to breathe due to the fact he isn't punished for missing really. A Billy that actually knows how to hit his chainsaw the first couple times isn't going to be affected, and Billy's mobility isn't going to be hindered, as far as I can tell. Only the ones who like to treat Billy like an infinite T3 Myers.

Again, this is just speculation from the leaks we've been given, but from the looks of things the overheat while running is very slow and shouldn't punish you just for wanting to run around, and it doesn't seem to fill up fast enough to screw you over as long as you're committing somewhat to your chainsaws (and not just forever revving/only backrevving like some Billy players.)

ok it is easy to rank up as survivor but another fact is survivor very easy to play even in solo (sometime) SWF pretty much borderline cheating

    swf is worse with OoO.

I know what you mean, as I can hit red rank more easily as survivor than I can as killer, simply because survivors can rank up playing a more passive role and holding M1 on a generator. I don't even play SWF.

Regardless of if I'm red rank on survivor and green/purple usually as killer (both are true) I wouldn't use either rank to justify the amount of skill I have. I would consider myself realistically maybe a mid tier killer, at least as of now while I'm still leveling things and using mediocre addons. That doesn't mean that if I go against red ranks that I stand no chance. As survivor or killer.

I don't even think it matters what's easier to "rank up" with anyway, because as I (and the devs) have said, rank is not indicative of skill anyway. Whether one is easier to play than the other or not is irrelevant, because all that matters at the end of the day is whether you're good enough to beat your opponent or not. The pip system should not ever be an excuse to blame your loss on. It's because you weren't good enough as a player usually.

I know there are some cases where things are really turned against you (like being camped into a 1st hook mori or something) but in most realistic scenarios that isn't the case.

    Well, rank definitely means SOMETHING.

It's not a perfect granular thing, but a rank 1 survivor is clearly miles ahead of a rank 18 killer. No legitimate matchmaking should ever pair the two, and yet the rank 1 can actually choose to face the rank 18 killer if they wish.

(Although, hey, the rank 1 probably got there beating up on rank 18 killers! Hah.)

Yeah, but most posts about this kind of thing are not about a rank 20 being matched with all rank 1s. It's usually a purple or green rank against red ranks, which is far from impossible. People who complain about that sort of matchmaking are simply just less skilled than their opponents and are looking for some sort of scapegoat to point their finger at.

You know what I say when I go up against red ranks and don't do well? I say "well damn I screwed up a lot that game," or "those guys were really good" or sometimes even "I simply didn't have as good of a setup" if they're all running the most OP things and I'm sitting there with all rank 1 perks or something. In other words, I don't go blaming it on the fact that I may be in green/purple ranks (I am indeed usually in green/purple as killer, and still manage to get 4k against red rank survivors when I want to. It's not impossible.)

I also disagree that just because a killer's or survivor's rank is 18 or anything low like that, that it automatically gives them a disadvantage. That means that they haven't played in a while and decayed, or that they simply don't play enough to raise their rank yet. Point being, while skill might give you high rank, having a high rank doesn't give you skill. I've seen rank 18 players that play like rank 1 and rank 1 players that play like rank 18. so I get your point, but I disagree ultimately.

I know it means "something." That doesn't mean that rank is any measure of skill.

  • Haha, I like that little part at the end of the OP. People just love to twist things about a post, I know the feeling.

To me, I try not to look at it as the number of kills even if that's a decent way to look at it. I try to look at it for how much I was able to do in the game in general.

If I have a really quick game where the survivors all escaped, that feels like I got stomped. If I have a really quick game where no survivors escape, that feels like a solid "win." Also, I like to consider how many hooks I was able to get. If I get a 4k but everybody kills themselves on 1st hook, it's not nearly as satisfying as me getting a 2/3k and having all those that died be hooked all 3 times.

So it really depends for me. A big part of it to me is those hook states. If I hook every single person twice, and they all escape, that usually still feels better to me than the aforementioned example of getting a 4k but having everybody kill themselves on 1st hook.

  • Not gonna lie, I can't help but to this to spite people who screw me over during the game. I know the trend that's being talked about here (it's not new, it's been a thing for a while.)

I can't exactly approve of it, but oh man does it feel good to do it do somebody who sandbagged me earlier in the game, or kept leading the killer right on top of me instead of away.

  • Time for a cookie cutter response to a cookie cutter post:

Ranks are not indicative of skill. The devs themselves say this.

The way it comes off when people make posts like this is "these people were too good for me, it's matchmaking's fault!" If you "lost," it's because you made too many mistakes in the game.

I just can't wait to see the next excuse people are going to bring up once they ditch this current ranking system for their upcoming MMR system and people can't be confused by meaningless numbers.

  • Yea, except some people even like to stretch the definition of farming.

I had a game as killer where I brought BPS, and this first survivor killed themselves on hook, so I felt bad because it was 3v1 and I just brought in BPS and wanted to let everyone make use of it. So this Ace just kinda walks up to me and I feel bad like "bro I don't wanna kill you now." So I hook him once, and I try to get the Bill in the game to unhook him (I went and grabbed Bill off a generator and brought him to the hook Ace was at while he was wiggling and started slashing at it, trying to signal him to save.) Right when he gets off my shoulder he runs the opposite direction, so I down him again, bring him over and do the same thing, and he just runs away again. I try to do the same thing with the 3rd remaining survivor Nea, and she did the same thing Bill did and just run away from the hook Ace was on. They were literally just leaving him to die.

I told them "dude just save the Ace holy crap" or something, to which they replied "no thanks. ######### your farm." I even added the Ace afterward and apologized that he had to endure that stupid BS, and he was cool about it.

I've also had a game where I had a Billy daily and went in with the intention of playing the game normally except for death-hooking people. Chased like normal, pressured gens like normal, but didn't go super hard and just slugged people when I would have ended their game. After the game, a Claudette started complaining about "stupid boring farming killers" (me) and the Steve that was remaining was like "dude killers just cannot get a break, they're always the bad guy."

People seem to call any amount of leniency I give them "farming" and any time I do something geared toward winning, they instead complain about that, like saying that I camp when it's the EGC or something. People will always complain.

I think a majority of people just want people to not be dicks and mori people off first hook/abuse DS and teabag at pallets while clicking flashlights. I know not everybody wants to farm, but I can also understand people who want their games to last a little longer during this period since everybody is just spamming the heck out of those cakes.

Anyway, the survivor in the original post is obviously a baby, but some people will seriously cry about the tiniest things and call them farming.

  • Ermac: *runs through pallet*

Survivor: *throws pallet and stuns Ermac*

    Ermac: *lifts pallet during chase*

Survivor: *turns around and stuns Ermac again*
