Freddy will always be the DbD travesty of my time with this game. The reason I got DbD, the first killer I played, the one I put hundreds of hours learning and improving. The Killer I loved enough to P3 and my soul obsession with DbD.
Then they Killed Him.

I’m learning Artist and it does occasionally feel like my birds touched a survivor without registered contact but my experience with Plague and Doctor has taught me that it’s not unusual for a Killer Power to not activate on contact, even if the survivor screams or coughs. Plus, Killer Instinct kicks off so it’s not like a complete loss, just try again.
I don’t personally feel this is currently necessary or a priority. Birds recharge fast, you can shotgun if your struggling that hard, and you get a secondary prize even if you don’t nail them. Do you honestly need a guarantee swarm on every fly or your not happy?

You’ll basically be blind without it. Just know that Shadowborn will be patiently waiting to once again support and love you when your ready to return. </3

I think Twins falls into the "strong, but not much fun" category. Not necessarily underrated, just underused as their most effective strats aren't popular. I would also put Artist in this category.
Yeah fun is subjective, I use to call myself a Old Freddy Main, then a discount Huntress (Deathslinger) Main, before playing only Twins…and I’m currently learning and exclusively playing Artist. I’m having fun. If you wanna argue she is actually rated high and not underrated but is never played, then sure, but not many rate her high off of personal experience (because nobody sees her, they just saw an Otz vid).
Still think she is underrated and fun~

I dunno, I don’t play survivor but I’m the type who doesn’t appreciate the gesture. I played sports all my life and what is described is basically the most humiliating way to shame your opponent. I’d respect a Killer more for Killing me then playing with me like a toy and deeming me unfit to Kill at the end of the match.
Granted I have an over active imagination and get emotionally involved in my matches, taking my role more seriously then how most would.

Twins. She is the most unused killer (I think) and technically not weak, but little lethal Victor can’t hook survivors so….you gotta waddle Charlotte over. Basically because she takes too much time to hook regularly and gen speed is too fast, she tends to slug or camp, something her kit does very well.
They nerfed her to the ground and say they plan on looking her over again some day.
Point is, she is unused, unloved, and sounds like what your looking for~

My heart wants to but the tiny minuscule reward for such a massive grind is ‘not worth’ the payoff. Part of me hopes in year 10 they will make P3 worth it~

I bought Bubba and focused less on winning and more in BP gain. My goal being 4 stacks of BBQ Chilli to double the BP I earn every match.
my point is, lowering your goal and building it up later is better for your mental health.

Hi, I’m panda, welcome to shrinewatch. This perk has been on the Shrine of Secrets 702 times. These are the 30 perks that have never been in it~
lol.

Nemesis is fun killer. For me. I don't care you like him or not, he is most fun killer for me.
And you should not care about my opinion of Artist if you like her.
I’m more offended with your name not matching your avatar. If were just gunna nitpick you ;)

I was so excited by the idea of MMR (back when I played this game consistently) because I thought they would separate all Killer MMR from each other. I really wanted to experiment and learn a killer at lower ranks so I wasn’t abused harder then normal. Nothing changed though. Either play viable killers+perks+add-ons or get washed 😂
Oh BHVR.

Clown. That discombobulating gas really does a number on me. I dunno how people can see, it’s purple, the purple gass is stained red from the Killer LoS, screens shaking and everything is blurred. I will absolutely be the survivor that starts running into walls or jumps in a locker while I preemptively spam my action button near (what I think might be) a pallet.

She's very weird (and very similar to twins).
She starts fun to learn, then once you get to a certain point you verse W keyers and have some of the most unfun matches of your life, then as you learn to counter said W keyers she starts becoming fun to learn again.
Most people just dislike her power, other reached the point of versing W keyers and said "yeah nah this aint fun" and bailed her. The only people who kept playing her are the artist mains/people who are really devoted to learning her. That's why you pretty much never see her and - when you do see her - she's either a complete baby or an absolute god, no inbetween.
As for how good she is, she is quite good, probably in the top 5 or 6 since hag and twins got booted down to B tier with the circle of healing meta.
Yeah, your post described my fear/expectation. So I guess I’ll just have fun being a baby artist and decide to give her up later or not. Depending on how I can deal with the frustrations of holding W strat~
thanks all for info/advice.

Killer Doll. Literally hundreds of movies exist with Killer Dolls (I collect them). Just pick one…
-
i like his kit, just lacks mobility and the servers mess him up just like plague. What’s the point of hitting people with your power if it doesn’t infect them or doesn’t prevent them from vaulting?
If he was to be implemented mobility, then I say whenever he shocks a survivor he gets an adrenaline boost and gets a minor speed boost or he triggers bloodlust sooner (shrugs)

Reworking Freddy and Plague changes were my RL experience of this topic. Now? I guess if they give Artist crows a hit detection that no longer goes through all objects, I’d be pretty boned.

Just enjoy your initial phase with DbD and try it as it is, without any guides or strong knowledge of what your doing or what is happening. It’s when the game is the most terrifying and fun. Try survivor first before you decide to try Killer. After that, if you are willing to tackle the grind, stick with Killer till level him up to 50 with a decent build, then keep playing Killer to feed your survivor main to 50 with a decent build.
After that, go back to survivor and really learn how to loop and learn to think about how to best survive. Take that knowledge accumulated and use it against your survivor breatheren as you dive deeper into the Killer side and lay torment to your new prey. After you ascend to top tier game play, welcome yourself to your new personal hell of SWF bully squads and casual constant harassment.
An then, at this point, you can make the final decision.
Fight back against the horde and continue onward down the treacherous and thankless task as Killer, make some friends and embrace the road to verbally controlling the game with a near infinite amount of unearned information (through communication) or lastly, the respectable Solo Survivor. Where one may very well be bullied by either side and farmed for points, but is ironically the one most concerned with keeping everyone else alive.
I wish you well~

Blessing a Hex Totem requires more time than a dull one. Though there even is an achievement for survivors to bless a Hex Totem x times!
I never realized it takes longer to bless Hex over dull, more reason to protect my dull until I can hex them. Thanks.

I’m still too afraid to learn Trickster on console, but I’m warming up to the idea.
For me it’s Pyramid Head. I’m a fan of his and bought that special DbD Silent Hill version too but I really couldn’t figure out his power. I spent way too much time trying to figure out how to get people tormented and struggled landing my shots and just got too frustrated to play him. After a year break and realizing I had like 100+ anniversary (year 4) cakes on him. I started playing him exclusively for the grind.
Turns out he wasn’t as bad as I remembered. Now I’m tormenting people at loops, hitting my shots, predicting more successfully. Guess something just finally clicked for me too.

Hmm.
I love Penti, but it has two huge holes.
The first is that you need to physically go and set it up, which can waste time. For this reason, I generally only use penti on killers with high sustained mobility, like Wraith and Demo.
The second is that you need to create the dead totems (Plaything is a classic way of doing this) and hope that you aren't facing one or more boons.
I still use it a fair bit. Paired with Pain Resonance on slower killers and CoB on faster ones. It's a hugely underused perk.
I read about Plaything but haven’t used it yet, but I’m glad to see it will do the job.
If I could, I’d like to try this build on the Artist~
Killer: Artist
- Hex: Pentimento
- Hex: Plaything
- Hex: Thrill of the Hunt
- Hex: Undying
Because of the wacky nature of DbD, not sure how well these perks would compliment each other and the killer. The idea being…Pentimento primarily for game slowdown, Plaything to encourage doing the bones, then Thrill of the Hunt to slow down the cleansing and blessing speed, and Undying to reveal those at Dull totems and possibly saving Hex: TotH.
Start the match with 3 Dull and 2 Hex, with 5 tokens on my Hex: TotH, giving 50% slowdown.
So, Artist will send birds at any Dull totems being worked on, revealed by Undying - protecting them (hopefully if I’m paying attention), and that means only my 2 Hex are vulnerable. I’m protecting them assuming they are trying to boon them and not destroy. I’ll start downing and hooking while protecting dull totems from a distance and start triggering Hex: Plaything Value. The more it activates the less dull totems I need to protect.
So now, survivors start taking awhile booning all these Hex Totems or just start destroying them. Obviously once they start destroying them I’ll start slowing the game down with Hex Penti. Either that or 3 survivors play the rest of the game oblivious.
Since I’ve never used Undying with this new blessing power, never used Plaything, never used Thrill of the Hunt with Pentimento and I’m still learning Artist…have not the slightest clue if this would work lol
What I don’t know
- If survivors are highlighted by Undying, does the animation for breaking a totem or blessing them diff? Would I be able to tell when I should or should not protect the dull totem.
- If Hex: TotH loses a token for a broken totem, will it gain it back when I use Hex: Penti?
- If Hex: Plaything activates and a dull totem becomes Hex, then a survivor destroys this totem, will Hex: Undying try and activate? Extending a survivors Oblivious state. Wasn’t sure if this was a totem tied to a survivor in such a unique way that it would negate a trigger.
-
I’m old school and a Killer main but back in the way back machine, when my friends actually played and liked DbD, and I was forced to play survivor (I enjoy it now), it was BEAT into my skull that you only squiggle and wiggle when the Killer is near and clear.
Now people just immediately kill themselves, in my shallow survivor experience the last week or so.
-
Borrow from the puzzle box idea and leave a dropped phone somewhere in the trail. If the survivor finds and presses the redial button then the Killer will be the one who gets pinged every few seconds (from the phone call) until he stops to answer. Upon answering, the Killer will get Killer Instinct on the Caller and the Caller will be exposed for a limited time.
Giving survivors a way to strategically mess with the Killer and the Killer an opportunity for an easy down if the survivor poorly chose when /where to call or is a bad looper.
Killer can’t pick up the phone, but maybe he could smash it to take it out of the game temporarily.
-
Well, after not playing for a year, excluding the new faces, the Killer I had to do a double take on was Ghostface. Past me bought the Classic outfit too and still my brain was like ‘Woa! Ghostface’. Then I started to slowly remember all the terrible games I had because of that stupid reveal mechanic and realized I was just protecting myself lol.

Yes, you can turn a broken totem into a hex totem that cannot be blessed and takes the normal amount of time to be cleansed.
Wait, the way you word that makes me think that regular Hex Totems can be blessed. I haven’t been using Hex Totems, so all the boons were on Dull Totems. I was assuming they needed to be dull (no?)
