The funny part is that not healing and spreading out is the play against a lot of killers unless you have a med-kit or are a very weak looper

Me! Weak looper me! It is in all of our interests for me to get healed, I promise.

  • I mean, if the killer got destroyed and it wasn't a close game until NOED went off... that seems like the problem NOED is intended to solve.

  • Yeah, the chat's pretty bad. For me, the choice was really: 1) do the emotional labour of trying to teach a ten-year-old good sportsmanship while he calls me the f-word; 2) say something rude back; 3) mindlessly type "gg" regardless of how the ten-year-old is acting; or 4) turn off the chat and don't engage. I tried all of those options, but I finally settled on turning off the chat.

  • This has been happening to me intermittently, too. I always forget about it after because it's not a big deal, but I wonder what it is? The wince they give is sort of like they blew up the gen, but also maybe like they got forced off of it by a perk that locks gens. Only the gen doesn't get locked. So I wonder if it's a malfunctioning perk or something.

Most of the gens in Midwich spawn within the classrooms. You occasionally get one outside in the courtyard, and there are usually one or two in the corridors, but checking the rooms as you move around the map is your best bet. They spawn both upstairs and downstairs so it can feel difficult to find them sometimes.

I had a Ghostface game a few days ago where I think 6/7 gens spawned downstairs, which didn't seem super fair to me. All I had to do was walk around the lower hallway listening for repairs.

  • From hearing the game described, I always assumed that stealth would be the main strategy, and I was surprised when I started playing and the norm was to do everything out in the open and loudly. I don't have the patience to stealth around as much as some people do, but, if they're good at it, and they're not taking the game hostage, let them do it.

  • SWF is keeping the game alive at the cost of making the game unhealthy. It's an unholy bargain that got made back at the beginning, and we're all experiencing the consequences, now.

  • I'm boring. My answer is Ruin and Self-care. I need all the help I can get.

  • Jeff only has one outfit I like, which is the one with the rat jacket. Don't remember what it's called. I end up getting more excited about other characters because I collect more cosmetics for them -- and, I guess, they make more cosmetics for the popular characters. So it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

  • I would have gone to get them. At that point, the match is a loss either way, so why not try to do something at least?

I definitely have had funny moments where a survivor does something unremarkable then teabags like they have something to gloat about. It's hard to tell in context whether they're being ironic or not.

  • I prefer the limited time codes to limited use codes, but I would rather there were some other method of earning the reward. This year, we're all stuck at home, so it doesn't bother me as much -- next year, hopefully people will be able to travel for the holidays again, and I hope they do something different, that doesn't require immediate access to a computer.

  • I forgot this was a thing. Nothing really weird or annoying has happened to me lately, either side, and I haven't noticed a big difference. When it first, first got turned on I thought I was doing better at hitting people when they 360 but that might have been my imagination.

I'm a PC player and I hate playing injured. The pools of blood that you leave everywhere are a life saver for me when I'm playing killer, so I try to avoid them as a survivor. Plus, I'm just kind of trash at looping.

Same. I'm not great at chase, so I need all the health I can get.

  • I don't know how this would work, but I think the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who could be really scary.

  • To date, the worst killer challenge I ever did was the one where you had to sacrifice two survivors during EGC in a single game. I tried to do it normally but, after three or four attempts, I used NOED and Blood Warden. I also wanted to maximize my chance to catch one once the gates were open, so I didn't kill anyone before EGC. I only took the two kills and let the other two go, but they were mad, and I understand why.

I think the current challenge is better, in that you can spread it out across several games, but it would take a lot of matches to have the right circumstances happen organically four times. It's frustrating because the circumstances to make it happen aren't in the killer's control.

  • LMAO. Imagine being AFK and reporting everyone else for not waiting for you.

  • I would usually prefer to just play normally, but I don't think it's toxic to have a slug race out. It's just weird.

"Why don't you open the gate"

I didn't think they were going to hang around for five minutes and I was ashamed to be near them so I didn't even want them to see me again. Even if I did open the gate they would just keep vaulting in front of it.

"just work on what you can work on"

Which is what? I have a build, I'm running add ons, I have decent perks, I know how to run all of the tilesets to cut them off but they're all so close they could just lap to the next tileset. Shack is painful and even D tier survivors know how to get some value out of it. S,A,B,and C tier players can easily milk that one tileset. Pallets were the big issue, I may have run some perks to counter it but I doubt it would have mattered since the main survivor that was looping me relied mainly on vaults, which are just unavoidable. BT and DS also slowed me down tremendously. They knew they had BT so they body blocked me from attacking their ally. There is no recourse when that happens. DS was my fault, but I thought if I forced it out early I would have less to deal with later on and if they didn't have it I could prevent a heal. Terrible choice.

The whole game was an exercise in being forced to make bad choices on a time crunch.

I understand feeling ashamed. Maybe less because you didn't do well than because they were bullying you and it was four against one, and that kind of dynamic can make people feel ashamed, because they've been rejected by a group. That's a really unpleasant feeling and it's not something someone should have to experience when they're playing a game for fun.

We keep saying to open the gate because it's the only practical step you could take to protect yourself, by at least putting a time limit on how long the bullies can chase you. In reality, the better solution would obviously be for people to understand that's it's not okay to treat other players this way.

  • I think any killer's power seems oppressive if the player is good/aggressive enough about using it. I like playing Hag and I'm generally okay going against Hag. There's an underrated counterplay, which is to run around chaotically and set off all the traps -- especially if she wasted a bunch of time putting all of them together.

  • I think it could be funny to pick them up and let them get their pallet slam, but, if you're not in the mood to do that, I don't think you're obligated to. The truth is that Power Struggle isn't a great perk for the situation you describe for exactly this reason -- killers won't pick the survivor up if they're worried about getting stunned. I don't think you should have to pretend that you don't know that's true.

  • Yeah, the struggle mechanic is awful. Also, honestly, the mechanic where you struggle while you're being carried -- the left stick on my controller feels worryingly loose lately, and I'm pretty sure it's because of that.

I get that the idea is to make it seem like you're doing something to stay alive, but the Pyramid cages have skill checks, and those work really well for the same purpose. Why not just have skill checks on the hook? Or why not have a quicktime while being carried -- press X, press B, etc, and every time you nail one, you get progress?

  • Not based on that reasoning, no. COVID is making things hard for everyone, but BHVR isn't helpless in this situation. It's entirely possible to say, "The pandemic has made it so that we can't keep our original schedule; let's change the schedule." There's always stuff you can do besides releasing shoddy work and hoping everyone accepts it.

As for whether the dev team actually has any control over the schedule, or if it's being set by an executive somewhere, I don't know. But whoever made that decision chose wrong.

  • I have four tiers left, so I think I'll get there, but the last 20 feel brutal because I don't really want any of the stuff -- I just want to finish and get my auric cells.

I agree that ti would be better if you could do at least a couple challenges at the same time -- especially ones where you need a huge amount of luck and circumstance to make them happen. You could load into 10-15 matches and not have it work out, and meanwhile you can't make progress on anything else.

  • @Clevite said:

Y not just open the gates?

This is a good point. I usually chase the survivors out, just to finish things up and maybe get a free hit and some points, but, if it's super obvious they want me to come look at them -- like, if they're spamming loud noise notifications or something -- I don't go. The magic of EGC is that they have a limited amount of time to mess around so, if you want the game to be over, open the gate before you go stand in the corner. Get your gate opening points and guarantee the match will end no matter what they do.

  • TBH, if I have traps left over after the last gen pops, I use them anyway to get the points and, half the time, the survivor starts running around trying to take it off instead of leaving. I picked this option because I don't know what else to pick -- I think the traps should do something after the last gen but not something so strong that everyone would just wait until EGC to use them.

  • It's definitely one of those things that can go either way. No one is psychic -- you have to do what you think seems best in the moment. Personally, I think 99 is the safer bet in most situations, but YMMV.

  • @GamerGirlFeng said:

Orrr it feels negative because it feels like someone is purposely going out of their way to ruin your experience.

I don't care if I die, a lot of times I sacrifice myself anyway as long as I actually get to play the game. I get killers are here to kill, but it feels very mean spirited when they're denying you the chance to even play the game because they find it fun.

I agree with this. Camping and tunneling doesn't bother me as much as some of the other things people do, but the negative feelings I have about it mostly come down to feeling like the other player either doesn't care if they're ruining the match for me or else they're actively trying to do it on purpose. Neither is what I really want when I play a game with someone.

As far as why it feels good... I honestly have the opposite reaction. I think it feels really bad to camp and tunnel people, which is why I generally don't do it.

  • Yes, there is a common phenomenon where one of the survivors is ultra low rank, the other three are ultra high, and then all four of them play super toxic. :( As far as I know, it's not against the rules.

  • The locker grab feels less forgiving to me than it does random. Like, both of you panic and tap all your buttons and somehow it turns into a grab at some point.

All other grabs are bad. I say this in every grab thread, but, for me it's extra sad because I'm not even trying to grab most of the time. I'm trying to do an M1 without a lunge, but then it gets clocked as a grab, and then it cancels the grab, and then nothing happens. :(

  • I don't really care about keys, but I'm on team "keys should only work for the person holding them."

  • Bodyblocking depends on the situation, but, in the right situation, I think it can be the most toxic. There comes a certain point where you're already going to win, and you're just trying to grief the other person for no reason.

  • I would say the most worrying is if it looks like they're SWF and one or more of them has a trolly name.

    • Run around something small that doesn't have a lot of corners or angles, like a rock or a tree.
    • Run to an open area, if there is one, where you are away from walls or jungle gyms and there's nothing for him to bounce off of. Listen for him to make that noise he makes before he dashes, and, as soon as you hear the sound, do a 90-degree turn in a random direction.
    • Run to the opposite end of a car, so that he's on one of the short sides and you're on the other. Stand there until he tries to dash at you down one of the long sides of the car, and then run down the other long side.
  • I'm a big advocate of trying not to ruin the match for other people, but I'm also starting to understand that the choice you have when you play killer is often to either make everyone else miserable or purposely hobble yourself so the game gets way more difficult. I really wish that that wasn't the case and that the game didn't seem to be balanced around the idea that the person playing killer should have no regard for anyone else.

  • This is one of those things where, hearing the game described, I'd think 12 hooks would be the default, but, the way it's actually played, that almost never happens.

I like evenly-matched games that take a long time, where everybody gets to do cool stuff, and there's a lot of back and forth. For me, that's the gold standard match that I wish I was getting more often.

  • I think you should DC in situations where your mental health is going to take a hit if you keep playing. That's different than just not having fun. If you're going to end up in a headspace where you're raging/crying/feeling badly about it for the rest of the day, I'd rather you DC before that happens and take a break.

  • I don't super identify with any of them, but, I guess on paper I have things in common with Adam, and, when I switched to Survivor, my intention was always to main Kate. And I guess Jeff is a "quiet only child." So that trio feels right.

  • I'm newer to the survivor side, and flashlights have changed a few times since I started. I once was able to aim correctly 50% of the time, and now it feels like 0% of the time, but I don't understand why.

So cosmetics which you need to earn are more worth for you. Does it depend on how hard you need to work for it?

I would prefer not to have to work that hard. I like systems where playing the game normally eventually unlocks stuff more than I like systems where you have to try to do the same stunt over and over again. So I'm good with a challenge that's like, "Repair 50 gens," that I can chip away at over time -- less excited about a challenge like "kill everyone in the basement during endgame collapse while using Predator." Having the second challenge be more annoying wouldn't make the reward more valuable to me.

  • I agree that it seems too easy to rank up as Survivor, and that red ranks is stuffed with too wide a range of skill levels for it to be valid for matchmaking. I've had tons of matches where I feel like I literally contributed nothing but somehow walked away with a bunch of gold emblems.

  • I literally can't play Nurse because the VFX make me sick, but, of the killers I can play, I feel most tortured by Huntress.

  • The reason I would still leave them in in some capacity is because there are challenges where you have to get out the hatch. The last time I did one of those, I had to try, like, ten times and, if I hadn't been able to grab keys in-match it would have taken forever.

To me, it seems fair that you would burn a perk slot to get super rare items from chests.

  • I'm conflicted.

I think, if SWF didn't exist, it would make sense to leave Kindred the way it is, because you should have to run a perk to ruin the killer's privacy.

In a world where SWF does exist, the killer already has no privacy and everyone knows everything all the time, so the people really being disadvantaged are solo queue survivors.

But I still don't know if it would make things better or worse to have it be part of the base kit.

  • I don't have super strong feelings about it, but the yellow mori seems so useless and the conditions to use it are so specific that I feel like it wouldn't hurt anything to let the people who want to see their kill animation get to see their kill animation.

  • Thisssssssss. The worst is that I'm usually not even trying to get a grab. I'm trying to get a fast attack in a situation where the survivor vaults into my face or unhooks right in front of me or something, and then it turns into a grab, and then my camera gets moved, and then it's not a grab and I just stand there confused while they run away.

Is this something that theoretically gets fixed with hit validation or no?

  • I would like there to be a bunch of random piles of junk on the floor that all have weird corners and sometimes you can climb on top of them and sometimes you can't.

  • @TheKnowlesFam said:

Ive been a survivor main for about 500 hrs. i got all the characters teachables and leveled them up as much as i could. felt like i hit a dead end, so i decide, hey lets try killer for a while..... Day 2 into being a killer i get CONSTANT toxic survivors! nothing but purple ranks teamed up with 16 ranks looping me and t bagging for the whole match. when i give up on a chase with a strong survivor i get palleted t bagged or blinded by the good survivors. In other words they chase me???

WHERE ARE THESE GOOD SURVIVORS WHEN IM PLAYING SURVIVOR!?!?!

At any rate in a given day i may get face camped and slapped on hook once or twice as a survivor.

It seems like 50% of the time im getting toxic survivors. one toxic game one good game.

Let me just say, if all survivors escape, im not upset at all. the after chat is usually ggs and wow yall turned that around quickly.

i do NOT tunnel, camp, or slap people when they are on the hook. As a survivor i KNOW how messed up that is.

All in all survivors are WAY more toxic in my experience than killers.

    ######### M8

    -end rant

In other words they chase me??? <-- a beautiful and succinct description of the new killer experience.

  • Like @Boss said, I like stuff that's free, but I acknowledge that, if the whole cosmetics collection suddenly became mine for free, I would be happy for two days and then not care. I think having to unlock stuff makes it more fun in the long run, so I think my preferred method is unlocking rewards over time through normal play -- similar to how the shards work now, except I'd make the pace a little faster.
