  • I think it's important to have a sense of sportsmanship in how you play, and to consider how your actions affect others, but the standard can't be that everyone you play with has to approve, because you're never going to find a strategy that meets with universal approval.

Instead of asking what you need to do to guarantee people won't be mad at you, you need to have an internal sense of whether what you did was right or wrong that doesn't just depend on other people judging you.

  • I didn't get reset at all. I don't notice any big difference, honestly -- I got rainbow rank matches before, I get rainbow rank matches now... I can't tell if people in yellow are secretly red, but I guess it doesn't matter?

  • So, the question is, "I'm abandoning you to die in the basement, but it bums me out, so I'd rather you let yourself die on hook instead -- why won't you?"

I feel like you just have to be bummed out about this one.

ETA: Apparently the thing you do when you let yourself die on hook is a forbidden phrase, so I'm changing the word.

  • Yes, everyone please stop doing gens while my traps are in play.

(Seriously, though, I've died from a Pig trap once in the entire time I've played survivor.)

  • I got it, but, in the game where I got it, I just threw caution to the wind and hook-bombed. Similar to the OP, I thought I was getting hooks in the TR in a few games, but they didn't count, so maybe I don't actually know what the audio cues are.

  • It depends on context. In some cases, it can look like a taunt, because you pallet stunned them for no reason (you're not using the time to run away), and you're so confident they can't get you that you'll stand there and self-care while you wait. If it's clear that you're way better at chase, and this is extra salt in the wound, then it's kind of rude. If you self-care because it's a tense chase and this is your best chance to survive, or because you're using it as a lever to tempt the killer to move from the position they're camping, that's different.

  • I agree with everything @Laluzi is saying. I also think online games are a weird, emerging category and some of the bad behaviour we see is because a) this is a new space that we don't know how to regulate yet and b) capitalists got here first, so the whole thing is framed around profit rather than creating a healthy environment.

I think gaming will look very different in 30 years. Right now, we're in the wild west stage where people can get away with doing really antisocial stuff because it's hard to stop them.

  • If you all split up the killer can only find one of you at a time, so it's worth it IMO.

  • I found out because a fog whisperer made a video about it -- some of the other ones were talking about it on stream. So, maybe it's supposed to be a word of mouth thing where the fog whisperers tell people? BHVR likes to involve them in charms.

  • I buy cosmetics and I'm garbage. A lot of players who are really good use the default cosmetics either because they don't care or because they want you to think they're new. So, I've learned not to assume...

  • I would like it if it were the vampires, but I don't think it will be. I also kind of wonder whether it was a mistake to let people speculate this long. If they had just revealed whatever it was during the anniversary stream, we'd probably accept it and judge it based on the powers, perks, etc. But now people have had time to really dig in and hope for particular killers and at least some will be disappointed.

  • The grind for both perks and cosmetics is nuts. It's come to the point where I start to feel kind of stressed when new content comes out because it feels like it's getting added way, way faster than I can make a dent in unlocking it, so it's almost like I'm going backwards instead of making progress.

  • Literally all I know about the Babadook is this post and the meme where he was a gay icon, so yes.

  • Against my better judgement, I played a late night killer game to get the gnome. The game went horribly, the survivors were rude... but then they waited in the gates to teabag me, so I had time to walk around and find my gnome. ❤️

  • I honesty don't know, but I sure hope it is. If you have proof that someone's exploiting a bug on purpose, that should really be enough.

  • I'm also aware that I'm bad -- both sides. But I do think, in an ideal world, bad players would match with other bad players and have a chance to play together instead of getting destroyed by good players. So all my blame goes to the matchmaking system instead.

  • Yeah, I had a Jane who switched away from a key at the last minute, and I'm pretty sure she was trying to trick me into running Franklin's. Joke's on her, though. I'm so bad at killing people that keys don't even come into play until EGC anyway -- no need for Franklin's here.

  • The original point of the thread was that some people get headaches and feel sick from low FOV, which I wasn't aware of before, and it sucks. I hope someone comes up with a solution.

On a completely different note, it also drives me nuts that people can "hide" from the killer by crouching right in front of them. If you could just, like, see what's directly in front of you, that would be a huge improvement to me.

  • I mostly play to grind for skins because I'm motivated to collect things. Sometimes the game is fun. It's just that you have to memorize the hours in your time zone when you can get good matches and try to play then.

  • I don't care about RE, so I would always rather have a vampire lady as opposed to anything else. But I'm expecting it to be legacy characters.

  • Flashlights:

    • if they're shining the flashlight at you while you run/while you're carrying, look up really fast to avoid getting blinded.
    • If it's happening when you break a pallet, just accept it, break the pallet while you're blinded, and then check to see if they're behind you when you can see again (often they will run behind you right after you break the pallet).
    • If they're stunning you when you pick someone up, either stop picking people up, or pretend to pick people up and then look around for the person with a flashlight. If possible, face a wall during the pick-up so it's harder to blind you.

If the survivors are all in a group around you, shift focus to getting everyone injured and try to concentrate on waiting for a good moment to swing.

  • I think he would be funnier as survivor. You try to kill him and he just rejects it. Critiques your knife technique.

  • Well... the other conclusion would be, "Play both sides and feel more empathy, so that you don't camp and teabag people" rather than "Play both sides and understand why being rude is necessary."

  • I think it would be interesting if it removed collision for a few seconds instead of giving endurance (and you couldn't get hit without collision). I agree that the point of the perk is to shield the person who got saved and not the person saving them.

  • I wish there were a crosshair in the game because I don't play FPS and I have no clue where the middle of my screen is. As others have said, I'd even take it as an add-on or something so I could practice and learn.

I don't have a monitor that can do its own crosshair but, if I did, I would 100% use it.

  • I especially agree with #5. I usually play games as a stress buster, and it took me a while to learn that this game doesn't work for that (at least for me). If I'm in a bad mood when I start, I'm in a worse mood by the end.

  • I think it's weighted somehow, but I don't know how or why. I just know that most days, I can identify a particular realm that seems to be The Realm of the Day, and I keep getting the same couple of maps, occasionally interspersed with something else. Then, I'll watch a streamer and see that they're getting those maps, too.

  • I think the whistle is now the second best add-on for Demo. Sometimes it's redundant, but, when it works, it really works. I was able to defend my poor Ruin for a very long time the first time I used it.

  • This post was resurrected for a silly reason BUT it's helpful to me because I'm bad at looping, too. Two of the things that hurt me are slow reaction times and not being able to pick up the patterns in tiles -- it all looks like random walls to me. So the diagrams and stuff are helpful.

  • I hate cancelled grabs a lot. In olden times, before dedicated servers, they used to turn into M1 hits, which was fair. It's hard to sync that stuff up, so it makes sense to me that sometimes what seems like a grab would actually be mistimed and downgrade from an instant pickup to a hit. But, with the current system, what seems like a grab -- or in some cases, just what seems like a hit -- downgrades into two seconds of immunity for the survivor. It really sucks when your reward for correctly predicting someone's movement and getting into the right position to catch them turns into a buff for them.

  • It's always interesting to see the same match from more than one POV. Otz seemed pretty low-energy -- not a complaint; just an observation.

  • Crashed once for me today on PC. The game even had me fill out a crash report and send it in, so it felt a little sad to get locked out of matchmaking. I was like, "We just talked about this..."

  • I don't like his face right now, but in a hypothetical version of this where they did it on purpose, they could texture it to be more interesting, so yes.

  • I don't watch Crypt TV, but I guess the Look-See is their main monster and he has a visually distinct look, so the people who own the IP might not want him to mix and match because it would dilute the brand or whatever. Alternatively, maybe the head doesn't match well with other Doctor cosmetics. I don't know.

They should've considered that fact before they picked it. They knew the reason it was so popular was because of that mask, and they should have made sure it was in the realm of their capabilities before they committed to it.

I really like that Legion skin. It's probably my favourite. I'm assuming that when they picked it, they thought it was a cool design either way (which I agree with), and that the mask would be a nice-to-have, if they could make it work. It's not realistic to think that they would have gone through a whole development process to see if they could animate the mask before they chose the winner, and it probably wouldn't have affected the outcome if they had -- they likely would have still picked this skin because it looks cool.

For the Claudette skin, I do feel like it might have been a mistake to choose that drawing only for the reason that the drawing was so stylized, which means that it's going to look a lot different when it's implemented in the game no matter what, and it opens the door to more ambiguity about which features of the design are essential. If I were on the design team, I would have looked at the drawing and mentally deleted the g-string as being a stylistic flourish intended to convey the mood of the design -- I would not have predicted that the artist or community would focus on that one detail and get annoyed if it wasn't there.

So, I can imagine a world where they picked that as the winning design and thought they were getting "sporty street wear Claudette" and then were surprised to end up in an argument about underwear. But, by that point, they were committed and had to work out a compromise. I don't think the skin we got is a totally bad compromise in that world.

  • Also, Rift Release Day is a day where half the community is like "Yay, I get to do my challenges!" and the other half goes, "Yay, I get to block you from doing your challenges!" Back-to-back-to-back brutal games for me, too.

  • Sometimes I wonder if trolly questions like this actually help the community, because they cause us to ritualistically explain why inclusion is good every couple of days.

  • I think you're reaching a bit, dude.

  • I had a match against Trapper a few days ago that was one of the worst I've ever had -- but in the hilarious way. Teammate went down within the first 30 seconds. I started walking to get in position for a save. Stepped in a trap, which was the first I found out it was Trapper. Couldn't get out of the trap before he arrived. Got hooked. Watched as the rest of my teammates proceeded to step in the same trap I did until they all went down. Died laughing.

  • We do have a recurring phenomenon in this community where BHVR hints at something vaguely to drum up excitement, and then we all get excited about what we imagine the thing will be... and then it's something different and we're disappointed. I don't know what the answer to that is, but it's definitely a thing that happens.

  • I tried it out and I was able to get one free chase escape -- maybe two, depending how fast I escaped. I never used the old Lucky Break, so I'm not sure if that's worse than how it used to work, but 1-2 free escapes seems fair to me.

  • I don't think we need to see her underwear in order for the skin to work. I do think the overall aesthetic is pretty different from the drawing, but I'll reserve judgement until I see how the skin looks in game. I can see myself using the top at least.

  • I like the skins in this one okay. As far as a random grab bag of recolours of skins I don't have + a nice outfit for Kate, it's probably worth the money for me.

On the negative side: I don't know how the Plague skin looks in game, but in the Rift preview, you can fully see her barbie crotch, and I feel like that must be a mistake.

  • Let's all promise each other right now that we'll continually bring back this thread.

  • I wish it was going to be the vampire lady, but I strongly doubt it. I don't think it would make sense for RE to let another game swipe the breakout character from their new release right at the same time it comes out.

  • I'm on the fence about whether gen rushing still exists with all the nerfs to toolboxes. If it does, I think it would be the matches where the survivors come in with the intent to speed run the gens and get out, even if they lose points for not doing anything else. It's boring to play and boring to play against, IMO, but some people seem to consider it a victory to slam all the gens and run out the door.

  • I'm so happy with this change. ❤️

I play on PC with controller, and my old method was that I had to drop my controller and start scrolling the mouse wheel because that was the best way to guarantee I didn't accidentally die, but it also hurt my wrist. This is so much better.

  • I hope someday they give "being the obsession" some kind of effect by default, so that it's not possible to have a match where it's 100% meaningless and no one has any special buffs or debuffs related to obsessions -- but I understand making this change.

  • Same. I always swing through pallets and get a lot of hits that way. Now, whenever it cancels the stun it feels awkward and I wish I had an emote to say, "No, no, I always swing through pallets -- I didn't do it just to troll you."

  • Have his gun make a kazoo sound instead of a gun sound, and I would be okay.
