Theme-wise I love this map. The feeling it gives me is one of desperation and futility. In almost every single trial that I play I try to imagine a story based off of the map, Killer, and Survivors. Every time I spawn into this map I imagine that we were wrongly imprisoned in the ward and we need to escape from the maniacal Killer. Depending on the Killer they can take on the role as warden, fellow patient, or even supernatural terror/ creature that killed everyone and that the Survivors are these punk people exploring the legends surrounding the building.
What is especially creepy are the gates that surround the map. It gives an almost fight for your life trapped kind of feeling.
The ceiling in the main building is also super sad. So many dead bodies. Add that with the dark swirls and it almost feels like you are losing your mind. It’s a really nice map and fun to play on. It’s one of the maps that usually packs a lot of suspense.
PS: I LOVE the ornate metal work throughout the map. It’s a nice touch.

I believe youre a little confused when it comes to how youre buying yourself time from slugging. Its not by slowing the game down, its you not having to go out of your way to get that Survivor on the hook. Depending on how far the hook is were looking at roughly 10-20 seconds, which you are now spending looking out for other Survivors. Its a risky way of doing things since usually getting that first hook is how you get the ball rollin. If you dont get another down before they get up then it might just make the game go by faster.
Its the same effect and the same strategty thats effective on killers with high snowball potential like Oni or Plague. Their powers are explosive and a good chunk of the time leaving a downed Survivor to get the most value out of their power is the correct play. This is basically the "fair slugging" you mentioned.
Healing as well is actually not slowing them down either since the Survivor can still recover all the way, and then they can decide if they want to be fully healed. Just like they can decide to heal under the hook.
Now with all that said, by all means do not take this reply or any reply for that matter in a way that you should stop playing the way you enjoy. If youre having fun thats all that matters.
Oh no no I totally get where you are coming from!
Absolutely I comprehend that “technically” this way of playing does not slow down the game. There exists a pathway of efficiency that heavily punishes this play style. It is as you mentioned, risky.
Despite this, I have come to observe that the human psychological aspect of this game often times makes it impossible to achieve said efficiency to punish the slugging style. The efficiency required is more involved than the efficiency required to unhook quickly while completing gens quickly.
When you hook a Survivor, it is not uncommon for another Survivor to be lingering nearby and get the unhook faster than it takes a slug to heal themselves to max. It’s not always the case but it is also not uncommon. Survivors do let Survivors die on hook or get to the next hook state. But some Survivors are also impatient and unhook as quickly as possible. This impatience can be exploited by slugging. If a Survivor lingers when the slug is created and the Killer gives the impatient Survivor the leeway to heal, it still takes time to pick the slug up.
Another aspect is that the slug does not always heal themselves right away or to max either by crawling around or for reasons of their own.
There is also a built-in paranoia that the Killer at any moment can make their way back to the slug which causes delay in some Survivors’ healing efforts.
Slugging a Survivor creates a window of efficiency for the Survivor team to capitalize on. Picking up the slug erases the gains a Killer made in the chase except for the time occupied that took the Survivor off a generator. It’s too tempting not to exploit. I have personally experienced how difficult it is for Survivors to resist this temptation. Sometimes when my path brings me around to the slug it is not a rare occurrence to see 2+ Survivors helping the slug. Ironically this altruism is the very thing that reverses the exploitation back onto the Survivor team since they are actually completing generators at a slower rate.
I appreciate you bringing up the 10 second hook walk. It may seem menial on the surface but over time it does add up to more chase/occupy time.
Overall I agree with your assessment that it is a risky play style. I fully agree, it is risky and can easily be used against the Killer. However I found that in reality the coordination required to punish this play style is not always present in ways that hook/generator efficiency is.
For me personally it feels like games last longer and are filled with more interaction and thrill. That’s not to mention the satisfaction I receive when knowing I have created a pathway for dying perks to be fully realized and enjoyed.
I appreciate your comment and engagement. Thank you for reading and participating. Thank you also for the words of enjoyment and fun.

When the killer can't see you, do it. Then don't run into them but try to make it to a pallet or vault. Vault is better, because fast vaults are immune to grabs. Therefore the killer will be in a lose-lose situation. You have successfully used a 3rd health state.
Oh okay I’m starting to get it. Thank you for the reply!

From DBD itself, I'd still like to see the studio that Trickster's bandmates died in. I initially wanted that as a Hawkins reskin, but I think they could start from scratch and still do it just as well.
From licenses...
Kino Der Toten from CoD Black Ops' zombies mode. Open it up a little bit and maybe make some areas inaccessible just so it flows as a DBD map better, and I think it has some promise. Might be a little too similar to the RPD main area, but that's a risk I'd be willing to take.
New Vegas from Fallout: New Vegas could be neat too. Split it between part of the Strip and part of Freeside, maybe.
I LOVE playing Zombies!!! How have I never considered this match-up? Wow… the possibilities…

I'm not entirely sold on the horror aspects of Garden of Joy, abandoned buildings are not scary.
Garden of Joy is probably my favorite map aesthetically. It lacks the visceral horror of some of the other maps. For me personally the horror vibe I feel from Garden of Joy is this dreamlike surreal uncanny valley type of feeling. The feeling is almost like an exhale that makes you feel like wasting away and dizzy at the same time.
But I can totally see how people don’t feel a horror vibe from it.

Can feel that way sometimes, as killer you have all the tools you need to beat a team but I do miss old moris.
There was something really visceral about being eliminated in a heartbeat that really kept you on your toes.
I get why people didn't like it, I get why waiting in a 10 min queue to load into a 2min game isn't the greatest, but man was it exciting to have a game with that level of threat.
Sometimes I wonder if its just really grumpy sore losers dictating the changes.
Would player opinion be different if the killer was a really hard bot and not another person? I never heard anyone complain that a raid boss in WOW was unfair to face you know what I mean.
One of the reasons why I really enjoy MWO, if you get caught out of position you get blasted and that's it game over, this can happen right at game start too.
I can't recall the MWO crowd moaning about this as much as the DBD crowd tends to or MWO introducing immunity to death in some circumstances. Are DBD players just more childish and reactive? Does the horror genre attract a more emotionally unstable crowd whom are less adept at playing well with others? Questions for the ages I guess.
Something I have noticed lately is how much Survivor patience/impatience wins and loses matches. Most other Survivors in my matches are so impatient when it comes to saving someone from a hook, healing, etc.
I totally get that repairing gens quickly and trying to mitigate free Killer chase time is paramount. However there’s this behavior of “go, go, go” that sometimes runs counterproductive to Survival. It makes Survivors reveal themselves to Killers. It makes it a pain to heal in a safe spot away from a hook or a generator (which in some cases is valid!). Overall this impatient mindset where you go through game after game dc’ing, killing yourself on hook, or playing recklessly to get that perfect match eventually leads to losses on the part of said Survivor.
Playing patiently, slowing down and being careful is a great way of improving your Survivor game. I understand why that is difficult to follow however because chase is fun. Beating the Killer in a chase is fun. These aspects of the game are thrilling even. When I find myself craving this part of the game I decide to play as Killer since that’s most of what you do.
-
I tend to spectate the rest of the match even if I am the first one out. I really enjoy seeing a match through to its end.

What does sandbagged mean in the context you're using it? Is that the same as teabagging? I'm not familiar with all the DBD lingo yet lol
Sandbagging traditionally comes from different sources but one of the popular uses stemmed from horse races. Jockeys would fill their horse’s saddlebags with sandbags to weigh them down so that the horse ran slower to qualify for easier races. Then when they were in the desired race class the horse and jockey would over perform.
Today it typically means holding back/weighing down performance whether for yourself, your team, or both.

You are possibly the only killer on this forum who actually has the mentality of letting survivors go at any point for any reason. Most killers just resort to tunneling at 5 gens and being as annoying as possible in making sure nobody gets away
I feel so bad sometimes because I can see they are trying. Plus, not many people have much free time and out of all the games they choose to play it’s DBD. I’m not sure what the average amount of games per player is but I’m sure that many people play 5 or less games a day. I feel like sometimes it’s okay for people to have an “easy” game here and there.

Just wait for wrong trap placement on pallet and watch them passing your trap while you are stepping on it :d
Yeah, Trapper is bad. I mean so bad. Weakest killer in game. You should play Wraith if you are new, his power is decent and fun.
I feel the exact same way. I think Wraith is a much better Killer for newer players to start with.
-
Yes I have learned this the hard way. Sometimes it still happens to me. Just like others have said it’s best to put the trap a little bit away from the windows.
-
I love using Deja Vu. Especially when the team only has one generator left to do.

If I or another survivor is getting tunneled......JUST DO GENS. That IS the counterplay....killer will get 1 kill, 3 out and realize that tunneling is not the best way to play. Yes it's boring but they won't stop tunneling while you keep throwing to save a teammate who is doomed regardless because then they get an easy 4k from over-altruistic survivors.
To the homies being tunneled, it sucks but do your best to loop and kill time for your team. This is a team game don't forget. Don't suicide on hook just eat up as much of their time as you can.
1 has to go for unhook obviously but 3 people standing around watching the dude be tunneled or taking unnecessary protection hits just throws their scarifice down the drain.
Hear! Hear! Preach! 🙏

I escape about 1/5 maybe a little less. I also can sometimes go on escape streaks but they are usually followed by kill streaks.
However, of the times I do not escape there most definitely are things that me and my team did not do correctly. We did not spread hook states where one Survivor has no hooks by the time the first Survivor dies. There are times that we are not fixing the generators fast enough. There are also times where Survivors in the match get found too quickly instead of knowing when to hide a bit from the Killer. Then there’s obviously chase skill.
DBD feels like a game where the Killers have a higher kill rate at lower ranks and a lower kill rate at higher ranks. And it makes sense that’s how it is.

Trapper is one of my favorites. I don't know how to vote. He certainly needs no nerf, but I don't know what a buff would look like for him. What could you possibly even do for him? The only thing I could think of is if you basekit-ed some of his add-ons and changed the respective ones to do other things. Slightly faster trap setting speed, slightly slower disarm speed, deep wound or hemorrhage upon escape/injury, etc.
I like Trapper because he is a strategy killer, different than most others. You need to plan where to place traps to catch people. This entails putting traps in places that will likely see traffic yet aren't noob-level obvious. But then you want to place "fringe" traps that you think "this will never get triggered" due to its obscurity yet place it somewhere that could still see triggering in the most unpredictable place ("Who puts a trap there?!").
His Tar Bottle add-on is really good in some maps (but that's only fully reliable if you also bring a map offering). His Honing Stone can be devastating if people don't pay attention and don't co-opt freeing one another from traps. I'm surprised it isn't one of his iridescents (ironically swapping places with the Iridescent Stone).
People see him as weak because, if no traps are triggered and survivors are careful, he's a basic M1 killer with no power. His early game is his weakest as well since he is taking time to entrap an area of the map. He makes greater use of perks like Corrupt Intervention or Deadlock.
Yet a well-equipped Basement Trapper is nearly unbeatable.
Again, I like him because he requires forethought in his games. Instead of the usual charge-and-swing, he says, "Where can I sneak in a trap that will catch the team off-guard, which direction will they likely run if they get chased off a generator", etc.
I guess the paradox is that, while he is the face of the game and the original gangster, he is better run by more experienced players than by new players.
I remember when I first played as Trapper I thought that the traps took away a health state. So when they would be injured and get trapped it always confused me why they weren’t put into the dying state. Now with more experience I understand how he works but it doesn’t feel intuitive. I think that an injured Survivor who is caught by a trap but freed from it should incur a deep wound status effect. That way it would encourage trappers to go after a Survivor who was trapped even if they quickly free themselves. There have been many times that I ignore a trapped Survivor because I know I won’t get to them in time. And even if you don’t go for them, the deep wound adds to the time penalty of getting caught in the first place. It would make setting and even moving traps more worthwhile since it would slow the game down a bit.
-
I enjoy playing as him. I do however think that he is not the best character to learn as a first killer, Wraith takes that mantle in my opinion. The reason being is that he shines as the game progresses and gets increasingly powerful. It’s easy for a newer player to get dispirited learning the ropes with him since he takes awhile to ramp up to full potential. Most of his action and success comes after the halfway point in the match. And since beginner players have no other metric/experience to compare and contrast with, it is easy to see how discouraging the Killer role can be if Trapper is your first Killer.
However he is super easy to play and understand so I get why he is the first/default Killer in the line-up.
I do think some Survivors have too easy a time disarming his traps. I would like to see maybe a slightly longer disarm time or have him start with more traps at the beginning of the trial.
-
It’s a really fun perk. I think it helps with learning to not be afraid of the Killer.

This isn´t a DbD community thing. But more a internet thing.
There even exists a name for it, which i have totally forgotten. So i just call it Darvins Law, in the hope that someone will correct me.
Anyway, the theory is that, whenever you have a question. Best thing to get the right answer isn´t to ask the question, but make a false statement and wait for someone to correct you. Because the urge to correct someone is stronger than the urge to help.
Which kinda applies to this forum aswell. So if you make a controversial statement, like for example: "MfT was buffed*" you´ll get a ton of feedback from people telling you how wrong you are, with great examples. Thats the reason why controversial threads get so much attention.
*disclaimer, the "MfT was buffed" statement was just an example. I have no intention to start a discussion about this and wish everyone a wonderful evening.
I’ve noticed this too. I’ve forgotten the name of this phenomenon as well but because I know it as a concept I have conditioned myself to say yes more than I say no. It’s easy to say no, but it takes creative effort to say yes and to expand or corroborate another person’s ideas.

I will say this, Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeyman might be the first game ever (albeit fan made) to bring all of the famous 80's & 90's mainstream horror icons & a few of the big cult classic horror icons together to fight each other between locations from their respective movies, and Mortal Kombat being the first official game ever to try and do what Terrordrome did except legally (granted, to a lesser degree without any movie locations for stages), but DBD is the first and currently only game ever to not only actively seek out these horror properties & icons to it's ever increasing collection, but to also let you play as said horror icons authentically.
It'll be interesting to see how high dbd can climb in popularity and if it can ever reach a high enough point in pop culture to become as instantly recognizable to the same degree most people would recognize Jason by his Hockey mask and Machete alone.
Regardless of anything, i'm riding this game to it's end to see how high it can fly and what it's legacy within horror will end up look like.
-
Also just for fun, i've been compiling a list for a while now of everything dbd have been the first to accomplish.
- The first game ever to legally and officially release Hellraiser content for a video game.
- The first game ever to have a Child's Play/Chucky crossover
- The game that officially debuted Pinhead's first appearance in a released video game and also being the first game ever to legally let you play as him.
- The first game ever to have Brad Dourif officially voice Chucky in a video game.
- The first game ever to have Doug Bradley officially voice Pinhead in a video game.
- The first game ever to have official Crypt TV content in a video game.
- The first (and currently only) game ever to have both Silent Hill & Resident Evil content together in the same game.
- The first game ever to let you play as Amanda Young from SAW.
- The first multiplayer game ever to let you play as Detective David Tapp.
- The first game ever that let's you play as Sadako Yamamura.
- The first game ever to let you play as characters like Laurie Strode, Quentin Smith and the version of Ash from Ash vs Evil Dead.
- The first game ever to create it's very own original ghostface character that isn't connected to scream nor is just an extra costume only and who's lore revolve around the ghostface moniker.
- The first multiplayer game ever to legally let you play as Michael Myers in an authentic way.
- The first game ever to official license Ringu and also create lore for it's character that have been considered a canon part of it's own lore by the license holder
- The game that officially debuted Nicolas Cage's first appearance in a video game.
If dbd manages to get either Pennywise, Candyman, Jason, Kayako, The Tall Man, then dbd will have managed to do the following.
- it'll not only be the game to debut Pennywise's first video game adaptation, but they'll also be the first game in almost 3 decades to release anything Stephen King related content in a video game as well as the first ever modern video game to even have any.
- It'll be the game that debuted Candyman, The Tall Man & Pennywise's first official video game appearances and also being the first game ever to legally let you play as them.
- It'll be first game ever to have both Sadako & Kayako in the same video game.
- The first game ever to legally and officially release Candyman, Phantasm & IT content for a video game.
- It will have accomplished what Mortal Kombat could not, It'll be the first game ever in existence to officially have every iconic old school slasher villain within the same game (If we ignore the fact that Freddy is not the OG version.)
What nice comment to read. Thank you.
Also +1 for mentioning the Phantasm.

I think there is a perception of unbalance. I think for people playing Killer there is the expectation that anything less than a 4K is a loss. That’s probably where some of the “unbalanced” perceptions come from.
