  • Right now I want a raptor. No bells or whistles here. Just a good ol' raptor.

  • Just keep playing and it'll eventually even out. Have lots of fun!

  • *adjust glasses and straightens tie*

    I shall do the deed.

First gen I would have circled. They didn't have time to go into the jungle gym. I'm almost 70% certain they were crouch walking around either that gen or some boxes nearby.

Then you stalked the survivor to get to Tier 2. One minute into the match so that's not bad.

I don't think Nea knew you were there yet, that would have been a good time to get stalk up to Tier 3, but the chase with her wasn't too bad, but the gen you lost was the first one you left alone, which tells me that the survivor started working on it as soon as you left.

Now you've stalked the two and got Tier 3 ready, imagine if you'd done that with Nea earlier. 2 downs. Now you've got a Meg hooked next to a completed generator.

Personally I don't like that because that means you're spending time in a part of the map with no gen pressure.

You leave the hook to chase the two healing survivors, but immediately push them into an unfinished generator and return to the hook (by a completed gen) and lose all momentum. "They're on the way." ...who though? 1 is on hook, 2 are chased to a fresh generator. If it's a sweat squad the rescuer will have Borrowed. You gain nothing with this play.

Popping the main building gen was a good play. I like the stalk until you jumped down from the window. Lost another chance to fill up your Tier 3 since I don't think they knew you were up there.

The two you pushed into a gen complete that gen, and you're chasing Nea. Somehow you crisscross and Nea panics and Dead Hards while you panic and swing. I find this very funny tbh.

Now you're chasing Cheryl and have no Tier 3 ready to go. She wasn't paying attention to your red glow but that could have been much worse.

You're down to 1 gen and you start on Meg, and I don't think she realized you were there. I know you know you're there, but Myers is a sneaky boi with M&A and Rabbit. Your only tell is the red glow. Press the advantage and stalk.

I wouldn't have broken the pallet unless you were abandoning chase, she got a lot of distance off of that.

Now you're at end game. You traded one hook for one gen, so you're at about 5 hooks for 5 gens. That's not awful but you've only used pop once and your power once.

Nea plays like I do and gives you the sac, signaling to the others to escape. If you'd ignored Nea and gone for Meg she still had a hook state. That would have drawn the others in to try and make that final save and would have very likely given you two more hooks and maybe two sacrifices if you play your cards right.

Your gameplay isn't bad, but you had the gen pressure of a Deathslinger. I really think you'd benefit by swapping out Pop for Corrupt Intervention.

Edit: If you're not trying to be sneaky maybe Distressing instead of Monitor will do you better on Myers. If people don't know you're there you can't pressure them, but if you're not gonna stalk might as well scream 'Hey Myers is close hear my terror radius!'

  • We're all human in the end. When I play killer I tend to be really open to memes. If you're the last survivor and you drop your item in front of me and kneel, I will accept your item and let you flee from the trial.

  • I have one outfit for each character that I like wearing, and play certain characters when I'm in a certain mood.

I'll play my mains when I'm tryharding etc, sillier characters when I'm just messing around and so on and so forth.

  • Oh I've got a few.

"The Tome Made Me Do It!"

Stop struggling on second hook 10 times.

    Slip 'N' Slide

Slide over the same pallet 20 times in one minute.

    Let's Trade!

Enter the dying state within 5 seconds of rescuing another survivor from the hook.

    "It's just an off day!"

    Miss 10 skillchecks.

Must be completed in a single trial.

    "I'm outta here!"

Be the first one to escape the trial.

    Edit: But wait there's more!

    Tenderized Meat

Hit a survivor on the hook 10 times.

    BarbeQueQ

Cause a player you down to leave the trial within thirty seconds of downing them.

    Collateral Damage

Down two survivors within one minute of each other.

    Slash and Smash

Break a pallet within 5 seconds of downing a survivor.

    You're next!

Down a survivor while another survivor is watching.

@Heartbound I know this is a weird build, but what do you think? Blood Favor to prevent pallets from going down, and Spirit Fury for if it gets cleansed or when it's on cooldown.

It's fine, but against better survivors you'll want a gen defense perk. See, what makes Spirit Fury/Enduring nasty is when you hit a survivor, they smack you on the head with the pallet and waste their sprint burst, but because of enduring you've already recovered and Spirit Fury has broken the pallet leaving them in a very, very poor position. Blood Favor prevents them from doing this and forces them to run away.

Also as a hex it's privvy to being cleansed instantly at the start of the game if you're not lucky. But work with what you've got really.

I like Corrupt Intervention for giving you breathing room at the start when it really matters, but Discordance is beautiful.

  • Baby Pigs, Red Rank Huntress and Doctors at the moment simply for being so plentiful lately.

  • Best perk in the game by far.

  • You guys know she starts with corrupt pools available to her now, right?

I usually accidentally tank the pallet :\ I don't do it intentionally but I have this mindset that I waste less time just taking the pallet and moving on to the next loop it's better than just looping the same pallet for the whole chase, is that not true?

and if I respect pallets, should I just leave the survivor and find another chase? I spend like thirty seconds circling before I give up and just leave against good loopers, even if they're injured.

You generally want to force the pallet down as fast as possible, then break the pallet and leave them injured if they're good. If you keep respecting the pallet, the runner will make another loop around the pallet. Again. Then again...and again.

I ask three questions when I'm in a chase.

Is there an unfinished generator in this area? If no, leave the runner with an injury after breaking a pallet to make the area less safe.

Does this guy want to be chased? If yes, then he's likely protecting generator jockeys. Position yourself so he's always running past generators. This gives you more time by spooking the gen jockeys.

Is this survivor out of options? If there are no pallets left and the area isn't very strong, just finish him off and claim a hook. Having another survivor (or two) be forced to run over and unhook him while you patrol gens gives you a lot of time.

As for safe pallets, you'll learn them with experience. What that means is that there is no way for the killer role to reach the survivor without breaking the pallet. There's three you should really look out for.

The shack pallet, which is the one in the, well, shack.

    There's a pallet loop that looks like this x = land // = pallet

    xx // xxxxxxxxxxx

That's a very safe pallet. Break it immediately. The only killer that can operate that pallet is Nurse.

The third varies, but it's the major landmark pallets. In "The Game" it's the two pallets in front of the basement. Haddonfield has windows in the main house that can turn into infinite loops if the survivor has Balanced Landing. Injure and put pressure on gens instead of committing.

  • 1600399846734.png

My leatherface got facecamped in the basement what do?

  • If you have it available you can. It's a pretty solid perk if you intentionally plan to tank pallets. If you are going to respect them and play cautiously it can be a waste.

This comes with experience but if you know the map you're on, when you get stunned and break the pallet you can see where the survivor is headed and where the gens closest to him are. You don't have to follow right behind him, just keep his location in mind later and cut him off. Once that pallet is gone, it's gone.

Edit: Enduring/Spirit Fury are pretty fun to use together.

  • If you tap M1 you slash. If you hold M1 you go into a lunge.

I don't respect pallets and lunge through them all the time. If you hit them, great. If not the pallet is down and the loop is much weaker in that area.

I though as much but people like to always make arguments that when they can't dodge something (usually slinger since he's the hot topic when it comes to dodging) by reacting, it means their imput is meaningless so I was wondering if they can tell me what is so dodgeable about other killers. So far, I can agree that billy and PH (possibly blight) when used in the open and in range (but not in M1 range) can probably be dodged via reacting but other then those probably nothing else.

The way I see it, if you allow killer to get close and in range of his power that's used perfectly, almost every single killer will earn a hit with it unless out out-predict them (if it's even possible in that scenario) which is also case for all the killers. I just can't grasp where is this dodging logic coming from, you're either in range of a power or not. If you are, good killer will earn a hit pretty much always.

The thing about this game is if you're in a chase for long enough it's set up so you'll eventually get hit running from tile to tile unless you can make the killer drop bloodlust by breaking a pallet or getting out of chase. Your goal as a runner is to waste as much time as possible, not to survive the chase. (However, if you do survive the chase and your team happens to open the door and bodyblock for you, that's one of my favorite things in this game)

Nurse and Spirit are the easiest to flat out dodge just because they need to predict for their hits and they're being piloted by humans.

You do have some wiggle room with Huntress and Deathslinger but accuracy is on them, not you. That's why survivors don't like it.

If it's an M1 killer and he's right up on you and you fail your spin, you get hit.

  • @Kebek said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1667841#Comment_1667841

Wow I appreciate the effort but I'm discussing dodging purely based of reactions, not counterplay. Your post isn't really on that topic.

Sorry. I guess there really isn't much to say though. You either vault, drop a pallet or try to spin the killer if he's right behind you. Usually at that point you just accept the hit and sprint burst to reset and try again or go down.

  • Uhhh. I can give you counters for the killers if you want. (Or at least what I do.)

Trapper: Don't step in tall grass and be wary at loops. Don't start hopping windows etc until you're injured because if you go down then well, you were going down anyway if you didn't try to escape.

Wraith: Watch for his shimmer and start a loop to avoid the speed boost he gets uncloaking.

Hillbilly: When he revs his chainsaw for more than 2 seconds press A or S on your keyboard and turn your mouse in the opposite way to spin. That usually throws him off.

Nurse: Dead Hard the second blink when she's on top of you. Failing that use map geometry to your advantage. She has to predict you to land a hit on you, so as soon as you break line of sight pick a different way of going, but mix it up or she'll catch on.

Huntress: You can duck her hatchets and I find it more useful than juking her, but make sure not to run in a straight line away from her or she'll axe you.

Shape: There's two strats. If you're a gen jockey do not let him get stalk on you. Do whatever you can to remain behind cover. If you're the runner let him drain you completely of stalk and keep him busy. If you keep him off your jockeys he can never hit Tier 3.

Hag: When she picks someone up run around and pop as many of her traps as you can. Make sure to hold crouch when you're rescuing someone. High rank survivors will crouch off of hook and hook traps will never be a problem with strong survivors.

Doctor: Know your lockers. A lot of Docs use their static blast off cooldown and it's on a minute cooldown. If you know its been a minute and he hasn't used it and you hear the terror radius, consider getting in a locker. Alternatively run Calm Spirit, but lets be honest its real use is suppressing crows.

Cannibal: If he's on you, know your fundamentals and stay at either a loop or window. Force him to M1 you. Stay calm and don't let him catch you in the open and do not crouch in corners. If he bodyblocks you in one it's over. He can be obnoxious to hook save against but unless he's memeing they usually run BBQ and Chili. You can hide in lockers before he hooks someone to shield your aura.

Nightmare: You need a runner on your team to beat him. If someone contains Freddy and the others do gens he's not a big deal. It's when you let him use his power and run all over the place that he's an issue. Stay calm and just knock out gens. He's an M1 killer in the end.

Pig: Fundamentals. Her traps add RNG. Usually my team finishes gens before I get unhooked at high ranks, but if your team is being slow consider searching 1 box and then doing a gen, then searching the remaining 3 boxes. The idea is to slow down the game, don't let her do that.

Clown: Play liberally at loops. He'll slow you down a lot and chew through defenses faster than other killers. If you're the runner rely on vaults more than pallets, but use what you have to.

Spirit: This one's tough. At easy ranks just loop her like normal. At high ranks she will expect you to try to mindgame her. Play a little stupid and you'll be rewarded, but mix it up. Something I say against Spirit often is "That shouldn't have worked."

Legion: Split up. 99% of the time they're running Discordance and will run over to your generator if you work with a teammate and utilize their power. They can see you in a locker too, so just run away. Otherwise rely on fundamentals.

Plague: Healing yourself highlights the fountain in white to her, so if she's paying attention she'll know where you are and reinfect you. If you only see one or two spots to heal yourself, go ahead and do it because the fountains reset and stops her from saving up corruption (though she will get one charge instantly, but just hide it out) Don't take risks with this killer. Also avoid infecting your generator. If she patrols she'll expect a generator being worked on to have green smoke. If she hits it and pukes on it and you don't touch it til its done being infected, she'll think the gen has been abandoned. She probably won't be back before you finish that generator.

Ghostface: Don't reveal him. It's a trap and it reveals your location. Look down at the ground if you're not on a gen, and keep an eye on your surrounds if you are on one. If he stalks you and makes you one shot...it's not a big deal, just loop him until you outlast it. The biggest time Ghostface is a threat is before you know what killer you're facing. Always assume you're vs. Ghostface and play accordingly.

Demogorgon: He's not that tough. At vaults and windows he will want to use his shred. Juke at the window to make him miss and it'll give you enough time for another circle around. Portals are okay but as long as you keep an eye on it it's not a big deal.

Oni: Don't get hit lol. Okay so someone got hit or you're using no Mither. No big deal. Treat him like Hillbilly. He'll either know how to use his stick or he won't. A lot of them use Infectious Fright. Either stay out of his terror radius or run calm spirit.

Deathslinger: Don't let him get into a position where he can fire at you. Hug walls and always have something between you and him. Pre-drop a pallet if you have to. He can shoot you all he wants but he has to touch you to down you. He didn't wash his hands after using the bathroom don't let him get ya.

Executioner: You know how with Huntress she'll ready a hatchet to hit you as your animation locked in the drop, so you just do another loop instead? Same difference. Executioner is just faster than her with infinite ammo. No big deal.

Blight: If you hear a moth hitting a lamp while you're working on a gen, the Blight is your killer. Run towards him on first charge, run diagonally or into the open on all subsequent charges. If he has nothing to bounce off of then he's locked in one direction. Dead Hard on the last charge and get to a safe loop during his stun.

Calm Spirit, Detective's Hunch and Dead Hard counter 90% of the current meta in this game, but ya didn't hear that from me.

  • Congratulations!

Now you're entering sandbox mode. The fun you can have is limitless!

(This community is pretty interesting though. You have people treating roles like sports teams.)

  • The first time I faced a Bubba post buff I went down at a loop because I did not know he got that quick that fast. Now I've just gotten used to needing a pallet or window to loop Leatherface. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it does change it up a bit.

I think the worst part is that how you loop Leatherface changes depending on what add ons he has, so you just kinda have to assume he's running green or better just to be safe.

  • It's pretty freaking terrifying, and his head is a triangle.

Shapes are scary. Imagine if this game had a killer called 'The Shape'. Wouldn't you be scared too?

    A feast for the Entity

In public matches, sacrifice a total of 1000 survivors.

2.8% of all players have reached this achievement. Not the rarest achievement, but still =)

BTW: Only 48% of all DBD "players" have the "level a character for the first time achievement". Steam is crazy.

The game has had free trial periods. I have tons of games on Steam from humble bundle purchases that I have never even installed. So...double the percentage. Just under 6% of players got it which means you're in the top 10% of players!

I play on an Xbox1x, the strongest Xbox out there atm, and it rarely can play DBD at 30 frames, less than 20 indoors, although it is capable of much much more. About two years ago the devs set a goal of consistent 60 frames on console that never happened.

Also because I have a 1x model when Blight came out the game inta-overheated it each time the game initialized, and was unplayable for a week until the following patch. But the other Xbox models were not affected.

None of this makes me warm and fuzzy about next gens handling it any better...

Have you tried playing killer on console my dude? Please borrow a friend's PS4 or whatever and give it a go. Please. 15-10 frames on Lery's? Let's goooooooo good times...

Nah I'm a PC nerd. (I do have consoles, but I missed this current gen D:)

I play this game on low graphics even though I can run it on ultra because the idea that my hardware limits my gameplay always chafes me in the wrong way. I truly feel for the console gamers out there and hope the next gen consoles give you guys proper salvation.

  • Why ya gotta go 'round reporting peoples profiles my dude?

Just kidding. I think it's more that consoles have more survivors and PC has more killers. Red rank killer wait times were pretty spicy before crossplay.

  • You didn't say where on the rift you are but from what I can tell it takes about 15 hours of playtime with no challenges to complete 10 levels on the rift. Alternatively you can just drop a wad of cash and buy all of the rift slots, but to my understanding the cosmetics will be available on the shop in like 6th months or whenever this covid stuff ends so it's up to you to decide how worth it that is to you.

The charms as far as I know are retired though, but you can only use 3 at a time and there will be more in the future.

  • brontosaurus.jpg

    Suddenly a dinosaur has appeared.

You did not expect it, but you instinctively feel the urge to approve of it.

  • Those teabags and taunts are about to raise to a whole new level of nasty and you don't even know it yet.

  • Video games haven't been played for fun for a long time. They only exist to get mad at.

Grrr I can't believe I got killed last round by the worst killer ever!

    ...one more match.

  • It's not gonna immediately solve your issue but try to record your blight game and make a bug report on the forums. You might be the one that saves the day in that regard.

  • Just bounce off the void and dash through the 4th dimension to get back into the playing field.

Jk, there are bugs in the game right now like Nurse can't blink on top of piers in the swamp maps, but in the past when tiles were missing in Badham if you fell in you just got warped somewhere else in the map. I'm not sure what would cause something like this.

    I am intrigued.

  • Breh you better start playing serious. When Matchmaking gets settled in you're gonna be paired with them until the game thinks you're better than them.

For the rest of your life.

Loop like your sanity depends on it.

  • Yeah we're not going to taunt you (outside of the trial). I'm hard of hearing and pretty mute irl so there's a whole portion of the game and killers like Spirit that I really struggle with (I still have her adept). That said I've lived in the red ranks ever since they stopped dropping you back to 13 every rank reset. I wouldn't let it get to you.

If you're on Steam set your profile to private. I'm sure the other platforms have other ways to stop random messages, so just do that and no salt will ever penetrate your mailbox.

He/she/whatever doesn't know your story. Keep doing the video games!

  • You're fine bro. Welcome to the community!

If they got rid of the leave match button people would just Alt+F4 or end it in task manager. They tried to do a time out penalty but code monkeys ooked that right in the dooker.

You know lately I've been thinking about making it cost bloodpoints to leave the match, but you can't go negative bloodpoints right? That way if code monkeys eat the code again worst case scenario streamers get bloodpoints reimbursed, but whatevs.

At red ranks I haven't seen many quitters since we're all the same sort of player, but it does happen. 10% of the time maybe?

Escaping through the gates is a group effort. Pipping and getting bloodpoints is up to you. You don't need'em anyway.

That example is at the lighter end of the spectrum of what I’m talking about, and probably wouldn’t take issue with it myself (more out of being naive by not even thinking about it being a black character that’s also a black Smith).

But I’m talking about things like profile names like “I like killing (insert offensive name for black people)” or “suck my big (you know what)” Just blatantly horrible inappropriate things.

Oh that's a little different. I was like there's no way you don't remember all the stereotypes and fun stuff. I'm even willing to go so far as saying all the non euros didn't even have effect on the anglosphere til Facebook and stuff I think.

I'll say I'd never use name handles like that, but as far as the culture as a whole social justice warriors need to remember they're the newcomers, not the other way around. You're not going to change the world by trying to stomp on people. They will slip out of your hands like sand and do the same thing somewhere else.

Besides I can see why they do it - to tilt you and get a gaming advantage - in a soft pillowy world it doesn't take much.

I’ve been gaming for 3 decades.

It’s not my nature to imply death and violence on anybody that isn’t a white male. Not even in a joking way.

So.... it’s supposed to be normal for most gamers to behave (or present themselves) as no different than a Nazi?!

Racist, homophobic, or sexist language being viewed as ethically and morally wrong is not a fad. (Language that could also potentially be seen by people under the age of 18).

You’re kind of implying that gaming has been around for ages but gamers don’t grow up.

Gaming used to be relegated to nerds. We were not cool in the 80s and early 90s. Not by a longshot. It was also more just friends and family deals. Now gaming is mainstream and society decided they wanted to jump in and force their rules on us. That's why they've failed to penetrate gaming culture.

None of those ists or ics existed back then. It's new. Trust me.

  • I'm pretty hard to tunnel out of the game and it's asking to get ran for 5 gens. That is not a good idea.

That said the last time someone really committed to it was a huntress 3 days ago. It was the start of the game and she came to check my gen so naturally I hit her with a Head On stun and yeeted myself out of the window.

She lost the game but she got meh.

  • The honest answer is Steam has been around for a long time and gamer culture just hasn't really gotten into all of the offensive isms. As a whole the community just doesn't care.

I know it doesn't seem like it now but the triggering is just a fad. It'll go away just like pogs and digimon did.

I feel like demogorgon and billy are the best choice for a fresh killer, they teach a lot of good habits to the player. I agree with you, doctor is lots of fun to play sometimes, but I feel like you should learn the nuances of killer first.

Demo is a red herring because if you set up your portals before your first chase you have 4 survivors free to do whatever they want for a good while. That can break a new killer's soul. (Plus I think Stranger Things is the most expensive DLC.) Demo's strength is his shred.

I'm not a Hillbilly main so I really haven't dug into how much the chainsaw nerf effected him but a few years ago all games were Hillbilly and Nurse because of his map pressure. Even if he couldn't hit you with the chainsaw he could get to your gen quickly through the corn. (Then they added Lerys, poor Hillbilly.)

To stay on topic here's fun I would do with Doc.

Nemesis/Rancor/Distressing/BBQ. Try that one out. Your obsession changing will not tip off immediately that you have Rancor to them so that can be a nasty surprise, plus the oblivious debuff when you expect Doc's bighuge terror radius can lead to gen grabs.

Also actually try Dark Devotion too. It puts your terror radius on the obsession and if you do your big pulse while they've got your terror radius come from the obsession. That can really, really throw off a gen jockey if you have zero terror radius and he just saw your scream orbs go off across the map. Sneaky doc is very underrated.

  • @MusicNerd_TC said:

Doctor is far from OP, however he's extremely annoying.

"Well friend. Let me walk you through the day of a doctor main.

He's sitting down in his chair, ready to play some dead by daylight. Probably just finished watching three hours of stand up comedy. He sees the doctor, hears that loving laugh, and gets into queue.

That didn't take long, which is a shame because he was trying out so many of the doctor's cosmetics! Today he's wearing a suit, using a baseball bat and has absolutely no skin on his head this time. Because Doctor.

Now, where to find the survivors? Doctor doesn't need any game sense. He just pulses his magic circle and he's found someone!

Hooray! Now to begin the chase!

The survivor wants to throw down pallets and vault windows, but you're a doctor main. You know when to perfectly time your shocks. Sometimes Tier 3 Madness blocks the survivor for you! You never have to deal with pallet drops or loops or anything. The only skill you need is timing your shock correctly.

Wow, that was fun! No loops, always know where survivors are. Just press M2 at the right time and it's practically a single player game!

...through every laugh you realize the cold, hard reality. Every match is exactly the same. There's no PvP. You realize why nobody really plays Hag either, despite Hag and Doctor both being strong killers. Once you learn to time your shocks correctly, you realize there is no game. No counterplay, but now you're stuck.

You never learned how to find survivors and you never learned how to deal with loops. Your power did that for you. You can't play any other killer, or really even play Dead by Daylight at all. You're stuck playing Doctor, forever.

At least his laugh is good right?".-Heartbound.

I really legitimately think Doctor teaches fresh killers a lot of bad habits and hinders their growth as a killer because they don't learn the fundamentals that are finding a survivor, knowing how to cut loops properly, but he is a fun character with neat cosmetics.

It's just...once you know where survivors spawn, how to run tiles etc you really don't need the Doctor's power. You can play Nurse or Huntress or even Trapper and get more of a result. You can really tell when a Doctor has molevision because good lord he struggles. He'll use his static shock, assume nobody's in the area when you're right on the edge of his terror radius and never looks around for survivors in the distance. Calm Spirit breaks those Doctors no matter what they run. They don't have the skillset to sniff you out manually.

  • Base Doctor being piloted by the average player isn't too bad. It's when they're using Iri King that they become bothersome...oh and they run it a ton at high ranks, to the point I expect it. Order annoys me too but not as bad.

The most common build I see is Moldy/polished/high stim Electrode + Iri king, high stim being the one that actively and commonly blocks vaults and pallet drops.

If I was playing Doctor (and I do sometimes) I'd swap Save the Best for Last for Distressing because your power is strengthened by a big terror radius. I also wouldn't give any hint that you're running Blood Warden. If it activates, it activates.
