Oh, my apologies, I forgot how balancing around the average player has only kept this game going for, what, nearly 7 years?

Yeah because of licenses and the fact it doesn't have any real competition. If TCM is a hit it might tank DBDs players entirely unless DBD is able to change and increase both long term player base and keep the short term (Aka balancing around top levels of play but keeping SOME things in mind for lower level players)

  • @Pulsar said:

Balancing around top level play will kill the game.

    Balance around the average player.

No. Balancing around the average player is how you decimate a games longevity especially one like DBD.

All balancing around average players does is keep new players playing for a month or two then dropping it for something else while the ones who stay committed will eventually leave once they get good enough due to the horrendous balance.

  • @Peanits said:

What purpose would this actually serve other than encouraging elitism? One person's opinion is no more valid than someone else's just because their MMR is higher. Both of you are people playing a video game, we should be doing what we can to ensure that both of you have a good time. To say that only someone who's among the best in the world should have a say would imply that the opinions of the vast majority of people playing in the middle of the pack don't matter, which is incredibly selfish.

I really can't begin to stress how rare it is for someone to be near or above the matchmaking softcap for MMR. Far more people claim to be 'max MMR' when in reality, there's nowhere near that many people up there.

That said, that's what the community team is here for; to take feedback from everyone, including the people who are up there.

I mean if you want a balanced and good game you should only listen to top players that's kinda common knowledge with game balance. Balancing around lower level play is how we got into this huge mess to begin with.

That's not the point at all though

The point is if you intentionally handicap yourself (Playing with weak perks) and you go against meta slaves who know how to play, you are probably going to lose. That goes double if you pick a notoriously weak killer (The example being Trapper, but there are others)

Granted, IF you are good enough you might be able to still win - usually by tunnelling someone out megahard, slugging and so on.

Yeah no that's still a gross take. Saying people deserve to lose just because they pick a killer they might an enjoy is a gross entitled take that's just giving excuses as to never buff killers.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3356975#Comment_3356975

Expect will also work as a substitute for deserved.

Also, are you REALLY sure that you wanna call me a Survivor main?

When you're saying someone deserves to lose for playing a killer they enjoy I'd assume you're a survivor main or someone who's so extremely comp focused they forget this game doesn't even have a comp mode.

  • @Nazzzak said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3356146#Comment_3356146

I think "deserve" is the wrong word being used, I think the best word is "expect". Weak killers aren't balanced around coordinated 4man swfs, and if they were then solo players would stand 0% chance against killer in general. So playing a weak Killer, with weaker perks and add-ons, against certain survivors, I would absolutely expect the killer to lose. They may not, but I would expect it. It's just like when I play solo survivor. I don't use meta perks, and when I come across a Nurse using meta perks I don't expect to win.

They've since replied and said me saying deserved was indeed correct. I think survivor mains ideas of balance is crazy that "unless you play nurse or blight you deserve to lose!" And they think that's a balanced world...

  • @FMG15 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3356146#Comment_3356146

He did. Rightfully so. That would be like if you complain as survivor if you run a meme build in soloQ and then complain that the Nurse on Midwich stomped you and you didn't escape. If you want to win you need to do it properly. If you play off-meta perks/killers just accept the fact that you don't win if the other side is going to tryhard.

Huh...so you're literally not allowed to play certain killers and that's considered balanced to you guys?...

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3355567#Comment_3355567

"It's bad playing a historically weak Killer who doesn't do well against SWF's into a 4-man SWF"

Uh....yeah, if you play a weak Killer into their worst-case scenario and refuse to use optimal tactics, you should lose. You are choosing to play Trapper. You are choosing not to tunnel. You are choosing not to camp.

This isn't a "Playing Killer at high MMR is terrible" this is, "I don't want to play optimally to win against other people who are also playing optimally."

Did you just say he deserves to lose because he chose to play trapper against a 4 man?

  • @chatgiraffe said:

they used to do this sometimes, putting in individual random ass peices like... a jeff shirt, meg pants, plague head, trapper weapon, nurse weapon, etc. but i guess its easier to pick an outfit and make it all the same colors (like rift 14 having valentines AND st patricks) than to take 3 random things and make them all different.

Yeah I mean like keep the rift how it is (so the big recolor cosmetics n stuff) but replace like 9 charm slots with just small recolored pieces. I still have the bronze pain flail from like rift 3 on trapper so I think more tiny pieces like that would be way more used and liked than random charms

  • Mikaela

    Horrible design

    Horrible lore

    Horrible players

    COH

    Nothing good abt her

  • Yes they Made flashlight saves almost always guaranteed to go off so people run them more often

  • Same! We have like 30 charms per rift pass and no one uses them. Switching like 7-8 charms out with simplistic recolors like this seriously wouldn't hurt anyone and if anything would make the rift even more likable! I mean surely just recoloring a few random cosmetic pieces takes less work than making new charms so it's a win win for everyone

  • @C3Tooth said:

Honestly, no special design cosmetic even needed, they can be as simple as this Kate's shirt.

Either you have one survivor healing for 21 seconds, or two survivors healing for 10.5 seconds, it really does not make that much of a difference.

One survivor healing for 20 seconds while 3 survivors are pressuring 3 separate generators and can easily switch off or 2 survivors (one of which has to hang back to even heal the others btw) who have to heal across the map while the other 2 pressure gens at a much slower rate

I don't think Trickster/Deathslinger's lore stories are laughable at all. I'll give you Legion. I usually excuse Legion as its an "unintentional way" for us to have movies like Purge represented in DBD.

Tricksters lore is just "I left my band mates to die in a fire then got an obsession with killing because of it." Which is...really weird and doesn't make sense at all. Deathslingers I always forget cause it's kinda a snoozefest like his design

  • @Firellius said:

One guy with botany can heal everyone but himself at +50% speed. CoH does work on a wider scale but also requires slowdown due to the initial set-up, and the range limitation.

But if you, as killer, keep patrolling a 3-gen and keep injuring survivors but letting them go, that Botany will nullify your pressure as faster, or even faster than CoH does.

And you can't snuff out Botany.

Again, you need one person to bring COH and then you never have to worry about healing someone. COH allows one person to be injured, run away, then start healing while the other 3 keep on pressuring the 3 gen or whatever else is needed. Botany you need 1 person always out of the game so you're left with 3 people and again, the slow down doesn't matter its the self heal that makes it op

If you call that horror, I guess. No wonder they give us stuff like this. We have people accepting of ANYTHING at all. They could give us a pile of poop with horns and there would be a few people that say it fits.. I'll be doing what I'm sure most people will with Skull Merchant. Get the character with shards and wait for a skin that actually makes the character look like they fit.

Her lore is nothing like Tricksters either. His lore at least paints him as a psychopath. Skull Merchant's lore is so lazy its laughable..

Her lore is laughable yet legion, trickster, and deathslinger exist

Hold on, what's that scenario look like without CoH though? Where killers can build pressure without leaving gens?

Because that, to me, sounds like a loss/loss on the survivor side. Either you don't do gens and get timed out, or you try to clear a gen and get downed.

Also, what's to stop these teams from achieving similar with other, less conspicuous perks? One guy with Botany can achieve CoH speeds.

One guy with botany can achieve it for himself, one guy with COH achieves it for the full team. Not to mention, its not so much as the healing speed boost, its that they can do it without the help of anyone.

  • @Firellius said:

CoH is not that strong anymore. It doesn't save enough time. It's just very high visibility, which is why it's popular and why it comes up as a possible reason why you're losing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the average win-rate for builds with CoH is actually lower than for builds without it.

You can't honestly say COH isn't strong. The time saved doesn't matter when you cant apply pressure. Survivors can chip at gens quicker then most killers can defend them and with COH it makes it so you HAVE to dedicate almost every single chase. It creates a damned if you do damned if you dont situation where if you commit you lose gens but if you dont then they heal and jump straight on a gen. A good team (not even a 4 man) can abuse the hell out of COH with little to no effort

  • Besides the horribly designed hat that looks like its bad 3d model with a pure black texture slapped on it and collision issues with every single spirit skin, its great!

  • I'd h8 BHVR tbh lol Adriana is so much better than predator imo

  • I hope she gets buffs! I know I'm in the minority, but I ADORE her! Tbh I think besides Knight, Sadako, Dredge, and now Skull Merchant make this year one of the best years for killers for me! I love Adriana and shes def gonna be my new main so I hope she gets good buffs <3

    Average Twitter user..

It’s a very underwhelming chapter and she’s a very underwhelming killer. The whole thing is just left over Predator chapter with sexy lady thrown in because couldn’t get license. First chapter I can’t bring myself to buy.

I mean she outsold him by a long shot tbh

They aren't gonna change a thing about the visuals

Whether that's because they value their artists vision too much or simply because they don't care about how consumers feel about it, I'm not sure

The Power will stay basically the same with numbers buffs and maybe 1/2 extra side things at best

I'm not being pessimistic, BHVR works in patterns and that's the pattern.

Good. She has a good design nothing needs to be changed

  • Last time we had a 6 month gap between chapters (Ver 1.9.4 - 2.0 I believe) it was a huge tank in playerbase and in overall online content. The game went down to 22,000 players average from like 33,000 and it was lowest it had been in quite a long time.

This playerbase needs constant new things to play with otherwise everyone gets bored and leaves its sad to say but its true

    This is gaslighting.

People would have the exact same issue if it was a 50 year old tall man.

Trickster is male and received tons of negative feedback on his look. Legion and DS if female would have received the exact same reactions because they actually have better looks. It has nothing to do with their gender.

If you look for discrimination in everything, you'll see discrimination in everything, that's confirmation bias. Literally not a single person has complained about her being female. We have tons of female killers that people love and were received very warmly.

Except I'm the last person to look for discrimination its just obvious why people hate her design. It's an actually good design that fits her lore and theme yet people are extremely pissed because she's not tall male killer or monster. Trickster got a mixed bag of love and hate she's just getting hate :/

I don't get how you can call Legion and Deathslinger lackluster, at least their designs aren't assymetrical messes.

It feels like a lot of modern dbd designs for cosmetics and some killers is just keep tacking on stuff and hope people find it cool. Legion's design is pretty simplistic yet it's become iconic to the game to the point they are getting their own comic series

Deathslinger's design might seem pretty generic, but it's at least consistant.

I don't see how hers is so terrible that it needs to be removed lol. Legion is just a hoodie and pants...Deathslinger is just a long coat and a hat...

  • @JustWhimsical said:

No, trickster did get this much hate were you even on the forum during the release? There were 10 posts each day about how the aesthetic isn't really scary. The killer just doesn't look very scary I would have liked this killer to be similar to spirit where she doesn't look natural like a cyberpunk-inspired look would have been so amazing. :/

Spirit also got hate and btw no, trickster didn't get this much. He got a HUGE amount but he also had a few people defending him. Skull Merchant is just people malding because they wanted a cyborg/terminator killer and we didn't get one.

TL;DR ver: DBD players when the killer isnt a tall man or random monster 😱😡🤬

  • @Blueberry said:

No one is upset with them for being a woman, that's just silly.

People are upset with her visually and design wise.

If she was a 50 year old tall man with this exact same design these complaints wouldn't exist I'm willing to bet money on it.

Legion and Deathslinger didn't receive any hate for their designs (except some for Susie) despite being 300000x more lackluster

  • @JustWhimsical said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3346227#Comment_3346227

Deathslinger looks cool and fits his aesthetic she doesn't look cybernetic enough. The design is not as inspired as the other designs, making her look more normal, similar to a trickster. From the trailer, people thought this would be our first robotic female killer, not an engineer killer. Is it just me, or is it not surprising to see why people are disappointed? Deathslinger doesn't look human and he is pretty creepy a better example would be trickster who suffers from the same exact complaints.

Not even Trickster got this much hate be real here and Deathslinger looks about as human as he can be except he's tall that's really the only defining thing about him. She fits her aesthetics just as well, she's a rich girl who gets off on murdering people and uses advanced science to do so. She looks like someone who does that. She enjoys a hunt and she's dressed for the occassion

  • @DragonMasterDarren said:

I'm not mad that she's female, i'm mad that she is at her core just Knight but cyberpunk

I like Knight, i don't like repeating the same gameplay loop but with a different coat of paint 2 chapters in a row

I'm talking purely design. Her power is dog doodoo

  • @ProfessorDunwich said:

The backlash has nothing to do with her being female. Spirit, Huntress, Artist, Plague etc are all intimidating Killers and their visual designs were well received. This new Killer really does look like a Fortnite skin.

Spirit's was a huge mixed bag lol and where? Because she has...a blade? I really don't see at all where her design is so terrible it needs to be scrapped and redone lol are we not allowed to have modern themes?

  • @MyelinXCVIII said:

Yes. People are mad she's a female human killer.

Just like they were angry when Nurse, Huntress, Hag, Spirit, Plague, Twins and Artist came out. Legion nearly got out free but then we found out you could play as Julie and Suzie so naturally everyone began to riot.

    /S

I mean not even trickster got this much hate on release (Btw people did complain abt Spirit and Susie lol). People call her design generic and bland yet we got deathslinger who just wears a brown coat yet somehow hes so amazingly designed not one person complains abt him lol

  • @Brokenbones said:

Who's mad about it? Female killers are a staple of the game and some of the most played.

Seems like most people are mad about the power and some of the perks. Maybe her design seems a bit jarring but so did Trickster and he turned out... Fine in the end I guess?

BHVR actually made a female killer who seems to be straight up evil for a change.

    Mori isn't very good tho

Mori isn't good either I'll admit but I've seen a couple posts here complaining and ALL over social media everyones typing up huge essays and posts abt how she should've been this cool cyborg dude yada yada and its so weird how extremely pissed off people are about her.

When he first came out, I would characterize Blight as unplayable on my Xbox1 most definitely.

Shortly before leaving DBD one of the devs, McLean I think it was, dove into Blight on console, making very noticable improvements in control and movement.

To play Blight to full potential yes a keyboard & mouse and steady frames are needed, but in his current form Blight is not unplayable on console.

You will need a TON of practice with him (go kill a couple hundred bots for starters) and jack that controller sensitivity up to at least 180 imo, and in time you'll find success. And try not to become add-on dependent either.

Sadly thats my point. You shouldn't need to max out sensitivity and everything just to have a fighting chance as blight. If McLean did that then I send many thanks to him but Blight just needs a bit more help when it comes to controller so he can at least counter being spun

  • @th3syst3m said:

He's better on mouse and keyboard for sure, but saying he's F tier is crazy. He's still one of the best killers on console.

except he kinda is considering you can only hit survivors running in a straight line. Even as survivor I can easily demolish any console blight because blight on console literally CANT counter being spun making his power useless except for mobility

  • Something realistic. I'm so tired of all these unrealistic environments and unimmersively huge houses like in lampkin but Lampkin is still the map that is the best to me aesthetic wise. I just wish the houses and such weren't the size of a truck and full of holes in the wall lol

  • I seem to be in the few who is only excited about possibly the survivors haha. I can't get around future stuff, I just never found it scary or threatening (a reason I don't really want an Alien chapter).

A bit worried they'll do a 6.1. and nerf popular perks into the ground whether they're OP or not, only for the sake of change, without understanding that if there are only 20 good perks, then they're the only ones that'll come into play.

If there were more good perks, they'd be played more.

Perk changes should come through buffing unused perks rather than overnerfing the most used ones...

exactly what I had said in a post! They need to focus on buffing current perks instead of focusing on nerfing current perks!

I mentioned race because you said you like playing Feng cause shes Chinese. Thats understandable cause i like playing elodie cause shes black like me. You just sound like a ignorant person. So whats relatable about feng other than shes Chinese and play video games???? Let me know ill wait. I dont have to be a paranormal hunter to like her. That point you brought up makes no sense. So go out and find some. Theres nothing wrong with wanting to play a character that resembles you. I thought you would get that but i guess you dont. All i did was make a thread saying that more charcters not even just my main should get more cosmetics and its gotten all the little Fengs in upset for no reason

I really think you need to read my comments because you're making up things I said. I never said you had to be a paranormal hunter to play her, I never said there was anything wrong with playing a character that resembles you and you're extremely hostile and rude for no reason. I said there was less reason for people to play Elodie for representation because her lore isn't relatable and there's already a black female character who is relatable for most people to main who is free which is why she is also played less in the same way Feng who is more relatable to most people and free, is played more than Yui who is not relatable to most people and purchase only despite them both being Asian. You asked "Why do you play Feng." So I answered and that apparently made you very angry. I will say this again, the main reason most people pick survivors to main is because they either relate to them, or like their appearance. If they don't fit either of those boxes, most people wont go out of their way to pay for and main a survivor. Elodie, is a purchase only character and not the only black female character. A lot of people go to Claudette as their main when it comes to representation as she is free, and has lore that the average person can relate too. Elodie is purchase only, doesn't have lore most people would relate too, and isn't the only black female.

Again, a good comparison is Feng vs Yui or Yun-Jin. Feng is free on every platform but pc, she has extremely relatable lore to the average person being that she's a gamer/nerd with overbearing parents who likes to cosplay. Yui, is purchase only with extremely unrelatable lore being a Japanese motorcyclist street racer who started a gang. Yui, is not as relatable, purchase only, and overall just not appealing to the general playerbase in the same way Feng Min or Claudette is.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Why is Feng so popular? All you Feng Min mains out there what drew you to her?

I'm Chinese and very feminine! When I first played in 2018 all we had for girls was Meg, Claudette, Nea, Laurie, and Feng. I mained Laurie and Feng and when Kate dropped, releasing the item shop with her, I dropped Laurie for Kate. Kate had a very casual and southern belle style I thought was adorable and I LOVED her lore! And Feng Min was Chinese and the most feminine girl in the cast plus a gamer. Overall it was a very good fit for me and Feng! She's not in my top 2 now but she's 4th. For me its Ada, Cheryl, Yun-Jin, Feng/Kate are tied now. Once Feng's qipao dropped I definitely mained her nonstop for a few months lol I love Cheongsams/Qipaos and I had just gotten mine around the same time so it was a cute match

Unfortunately as a licensed character, their hands are kind of tied with adding cosmetics. Most companies are not as open as Capcom is being with Resident Evil. Second most open would be Konami with Silent Hill, third would be Lionsgate (Saw) The rest, they just really don't care about adding more cosmetics so BHVR can't do it.

Tbf both Yoichi and Sadako have cosmetics in the mobile version

Lol. So Elodie might not be relatable FOR YOU. She is for me and many other black people who play dead by daylight. For me and many others there arent many good black representation in games. We're just in the game to say hey look everyone heres our black character.

Like why even try to make this about her being black I didn't even mention her race and even said I PLAY HER MYSELF! I said HADDIE wasn't good representation as not only is she not relatable lore wise, but she misrepresents Sikh and Hindu culture. Go back and read my comment before being so mad lol (Edit: and about the black representation thing, I'd assume the paranormal hunting rich girl isn't as relatable as Claudette is for most players in the same way Yui Kimura isn't as relatable as Feng Min to Asian players like myself lol. Elodie is purchase only, and has unrelatable lore for most people so that could also be a factor why she is less played as well)

It shouldn't even need to take this long to change perks because a majority of perks could just do with simple number changes. You know how decent blood pact would be if you increase the range and the speed boost by a decent amount?

I understand why they're terrified to touch blood pact but that's their fault for reworking it into the much harder to balance state as it is. Idk if you played the Silent Hill PTB, but back then it didn't require a full heal to activate and only lasted 10 seconds I believe. But that was so useful because if you got interrupted BOOM you could sprint away quickly and avoid getting hit

  • Potential Energy needs 2 things

Lose only 5 tokens when getting hit

and YOU DONT NEED TO MAX IT UP BEFORE WORKING ON A GEN! This is the biggest issue I have with the perk that I can't build it up little by little its either max it out to full 20 tokens or spend all your tokens just to continue working on the gen or another gen making the progress you built up worthless

  • I find myself getting a 2k on average however, this 2k is typically obtained in an extremely scummy way that doesn't make me feel proud of myself. If they can make this 2k happen naturally more and less scummy to obtain I wouldn't mind that.
