Been alright, i sometimes pop up just to check.
You?
That is good to know. I honestly thought you were done with DBD. It is good to see you again.
I'm doing great! Still doing my Old Freddy campaign, of course. And I'm not as unhappy with the game as I used to be, I am having fun!

Yeah with all the big names I'm not suprise your friends knew already. The real challenge is retaining players on this game not finding them.
Yep, that's true.
And I think it was easier to do it in the past because there was less to learn and grind. I started when the Darkness Among Us chapter was released and my experience as a new player was good, but the current "new player experience" might be a bit overwhelming at first.

I think most players come into a asymmetrical games expecting to lose against the monster. It's not really hard to sell them on it anyway. "hey! this game got all the iconic slashers" look fun.
Yeah, that is basically what happened when I last recommended DBD to some friends.
I didn't even have to explain anything, they were already familiar with the game.
-
I agree.
And I'll say, you can probably change the title to:
MMR Has Negatively ImpactedTheDBDForumsBecause it is the truth, imo. Ever since the first few tests this system has been causing nothing but problems, which is one of the reasons why many of the initial MMR feedback posts were negative.
I think the "I'm high MMR" threads and comments are somewhat amusing, because we all know there is now way to verify that. As far as I'm aware, the only thing BHVR has ever said about the infamous high MMR is that the number of players who actually got there is smaller than we would think, especially with countless comments from players who insist they've climbed to the top.
Alas, I see the problem you're describing here.

I play killer mainly nowadays and the event is just ridiculously sweaty, I can't recall an event being this bad for a long time.
There's zero point attempting to play the event because gen speed is ridiculous and you lose way too much pressure doing anything event related.
I've probably played about 25 games of the event and only had like 3 or 4 enjoyable games overall
Funnily enough, I've had the opposite experience.
Most of my matches today have been extremely fun, but the few that weren't (no more than 5, thankfully), were caused by the killer players sweating.
Two in particular: a Xeno and a Hillbilly. And I don't understand why they did it it. Like, if you want to do everything you can to win, just play the regular mode. Xeno tunneled me to death at 5 gens, and the Hillbilly didn't interact with the event at all until I went to the void during a chase, and he chose to follow (actually dodged the chainsaw by entering the portal, that was kinda cool).
At that point I just switched to killer myself. If I can't play against a non-sweaty killer for the rest of the night, then I'll be the non-sweaty killer.
-
Nice!
I'll have my own at some point. It will take a while, but I did it with Freddy and I will do it with Mikaela.

Correct, my dear friend!
Guess you beat @Grigerbest to it.

You can double tap someone right off hook a la Leatherface w/Haunts and an m1. That’s a major issue right there.
Yeah, I've heard that it can be done. Thankfully I haven't seen it yet.
Worst I've seen so far was a Blight slugging someone at the endgame inside the void, because that was a hell of a difficult save.
Jumping down as my good friend, the Feng, used a Crystal was amazing, ngl.

I haven't had any issues with balance so far, to be honest. I'm loving the event.

He is stronger than Pyramid Head for this exact reason, his camera turn rate isn’t affected, you move decently quick while holding Hellfire, you can zone survivors so that they are in a lose-lose situation, he has no counterplay in those types of situations unless the player misses. A 7 second cooldown is nothing considering he has two other abilites to help catch up or also down, aka Bat or Wolf form.
Bat form is just Spirit, your audio in game when playing on Bat mode is increased for better hearing, you move incredibly fast, you can teleport to windows for map traversal, you can still see scratch marks and hear survivors, good players will not have an issue with not being able to see survivors. The only thing is that he has to switch between modes to return to his Wolf or Vampire form, but I don’t find that too much of an issue when I play him.
Wolf form is also strong, even with hugtech being patched, it allows you to close the distance between another survivor when in chase if you don’t want to use Bat form, and since you don’t get slowed much to the point it’s difficult to use when charging your ability, players who are patient can also use this to zone players, plus it gives you better tracking and a little bit of more speed all together. Plus he can M1 and still be short, allowing for some confusing mindgames.
He’s a horribly designed killer, he has very short cooldowns while having way too much in his kit that can guarantee downs if the player is patient and knows what they’re doing. He takes powers from other killers pretty much and it feels like he his better then Pyramid Head or even Spirit depending on the circumstances.
Sorry for the long post, but I played this killer a lot and wanted to share my personal thoughts!! :)
I agree, friend.
It is such a shame that Dracula's power is this poorly designed, because his music is good and the castle is a nice touch.

If it doesn't matter what you run really, why not pick something comfy like WoO? It felt nice after these metas where survivors HAD to run this and that.

The issue is that if you take a perk that does almost nothing that can't be achieved without it, and you call that 'overpowered', that is arguing that a perk that does something more substantial would be far more overpowered.
This is an issue that happens a lot on these forums where the balancing standard keeps shifting. With every nerf to survivors, the game doesn't get more balanced, forum killers just adjust their standards and find the next most valuable perk and label that 'overpowered'. The benchmark just keeps getting pushed further down.
WoO is not overpowered, and is not even close to it. It's just that the bar for survivor perks has dropped through the floor, especially with additions like Weaving Spiders.

Well said.
It seems to me that the idea nowadays is to make every survivor perk equally mediocre, so you can run whatever you choose to run and not feel the difference. Unsurprisingly, Windows of Opportunity is one of the most used survivor perks these days, and it was generally seen as a beginner perk in the past.
Its effect is nowhere near as useful as other survivor perks used to be, but objectively it provides more than the entire sea of perks that are either extremely niche, or have been changed to a point where they are no longer good.

Yes, to whoever read this message: don't ruin the event by sweating, regardless of which role you play.
If you wanna do everything you can to win, go play the regular mode. Let others have fun.

I have already played a couple games and I am loving it so far!
This is the first Halloween event that I am actually around to play since The Eternal Blight, and if the others were like this one then I think I am starting to regret the long breaks I took from DBD.
This is so much better than the modifiers and other events this year (except maybe Blood Moon, because that one was cool). I can definitely say that I am satisfied.

it didn't do anything for majority of the community because majority of players severely lack macro knowledge, and thus knowing when, where and how to force a down if they are being chased.
5s was a terrible decision that literally terrorized weaker killers at every skill level.

DS was completely ok at 3s and the approach to buffing it to 5s at first was absolutely wrong idea since it just further punished weaker killers, while effectively doing nothing against killers like Nurse, Billy and Blight.
Now back onto the topic, since you technically ain't tunneling if you chase and down other survivor and it wouldn't be your fault if they get downed too fast, i think OTR and DS could prolly be disabled prematurely if killer takes another chase, with the exception if survivor is on ground in terms of DS.
I disagree with that, to be honest. The 3 second stun barely did anything, which was one of the reasons why tunneling was out of the control for quite a while.
5 seconds was way better because it actually did its job. Nurse is the exception, but depending on the map and the amount of resources available Billy and Blight couldn't simply shrug off the stun without any consequences, which was a good thing.

I literally had ragequit moments were I used two of my chances to unhook me, when I got saved by a kind teammate, and this selfless act let me pull myself together and finish the round, because I wanted to honor the risk that player took. Some of these games I died, some I even escaped, so yeah, go for saves, there is always the chance that you give that survivor the push they need, and in the worst case scenario they will distract the killer for like 15-20s to get killed on hook.
(I lied, in the real worst case scenario they go AFK and allow the killer to hunt for the 4K in absolute leisure, but psssssst).

The worst one I've had actually dropped all the pallets they could find after I saved them, then kept fast vaulting to get the killer's attention.
I got lucky with the hatch that game, but it didn't even matter. The match was ruined and was essentially a massive waste of time.

And I agree about Weave Attunement. People running WA and Franklins make me think unkind thoughts.

Windows is not at all op, and I think it's ridiculous that people call for it to be nerfed. But I do think it's a perk most often used by players who don't have time to pay attention and/or develop game sense, and I personally find it to be a waste of a perk slot.
But I get it, tracking resources is a pain, and it's nice to have a perk to do it for you.
And saying someone who escapes is "by definition good at the game" is a joke. Awful survs escape just as much as bad killers get a 4K. Often times the best survs carry their team but die so their lesser teammates escape.
As we all know kills/escapes =/= skill; this isn't hockey
Yeah, WA + Franklin's Demise is really annoying to go against. I don't even bring items most of the time and still have to worry about someone else's item revealing my aura.

I've seen demands for removing anonymous mode for everyone and now enforcing anonymous mode for everyone, both for absurd reasons.
Most players of this game don't care about any of this nonsense, they want normal game features like every other game has, because they're not obsessed with being outraged over nothing like these forums are.

Yeah, I think you're right.
Unfortunately "######### sticks" is the phrase I believe and Skull Merchant is a perfect storm of bad initial reception, one of the worst unfun playstyles following the 6.1.0 patch that she happened to be one of the best at, into a rework that was passable but not good and did nothing to repair her reputation, that BHVR have now openly acknowledged and validated the revile of.
At this point it's just arguing against how people feel, not anything objective, and unfortunately there is nothing to debate in that conversation... you can't argue with how someone feels… Unfortunately that means a lot of players just don't want her to work, and aren't willing to entertain the idea of her being fixed. No amount of blood will ever be good enough.
I believe the other issue is content creators constantly make their disdain known for Skull Merchant and keep the bad public perception. Some like Scott always hated her, he's never even entertained the idea of her ever working, calling her a terrible idea that never should have seen the light from day 1. While I disagree with this assessment and it feels a little close minded, especially as Scott is normally very reasonable and fair (I would have really liked to hear his thoughts on how a drone based killer could work), at least Scott never changed his tune.
Other content creators who I won't name have changed their tune in line with the wind around Skull Merchant. They genuinely don't like her I have no doubt, but its also in their interest to keep throwing her under the bus. Anyone who did speak on her behalf at any point, even in a passing mention of giving props to an improvement, has quickly backpeddled since because it isn't worth the rift from their own fans. I won't name drop, but I do recall a few instances of players supporting Skull Merchant changes as improvements during the PTB, but then later continuing to meme on her hate train and "just delete her".
Almost all of them now refuse to acknowledge any improvements or potential for her and instead keep completely running her down and fueling the hatred of the character. It's an easy win to stay on the good side of their community rather than take a risk of supporting anything about Skull Merchant.
If I was really cynical, I'd say keeping her at hated meme of a character is easy content farming... but that's disingenuous... however I know I for one am very tired of the completely unconstructive Skull Merchant hate campaign.
I like the idea of a surveillance killer where I have to sneak past not only her, but her sensors too. The core idea of Skull Merchant is cool and different, and I just want that idea to be realised properly and be fun... However that idea can't possibly ever come into being if no one is willing to even try and explore how it can work... and that to me is really lame.
however I know I for one am very tired of the completely unconstructive Skull Merchant hate campaign.
Same, friend. Same.

First time im gonna have to respectfully disagree with you my friend the problem wasn't the 4.6ms it was the addons that boost his ms while holding and throwing knives furthermore his main problem was the Main Event Spam nerfing it down to 24 (6 health states) will make him feel alot more fair so he should retain the 4.6ms he'll be terrible to play as. Devs are adding alot more clutter to maps so survs can break LOS more easily and dodge ranged attacks better.
Finally Devs are increasing the Laceration meter and decreasing the time it takes for Laceration to Decay these nerfs are more than fair enough to make Trickster feel way less oppressive i respectfully ask as a fellow freddy enjoyer who can relate a killer falling from fun to change your mind on getting rid of 4.6ms and try these other nerfs first instead
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3819986#Comment_3819986
Agree to disagree on this one. I don't think Trickster is fine as a 4.6 m/s killer.
-
If it glows, it goes.
-
Not the easiest of questions, friend, most of the really strong perks have already been hit hard by nerfs and adjustments.
Though if I was forced to nerf a perk in the current state of the game it would be Weave Attunement, simply because it is annoying.

"Why is it so hard to balance a game so both sides face a challenge and require skill.."
Balance in this game is incredibly difficult. Both sides are completely different mechanically, and have completely different objectives. Not to mention the vast expanse between a competent SWF and new solo survivors. It's like when killer players say that they should have access to sixteen perk slots, as survivors have sixteen in total. Sounds good on paper, but in practice it would be a complete disaster. Game balance is extremely messy. Especially for this game.
Although, if it's not hard to achieve, I'd be interested in hearing about a simple and easy way to fix the game's balance.
Although, if it's not hard to achieve, I'd be interested in hearing about a simple and easy way to fix the game's balance.
There is always the possibility of reverting the game back to a more fun state and taking things from there. Start over, you know.
The only problem is figuring out the "when". It would be very difficult, or even impossible, to find a version of DBD that is agreed to be the most fun the game has ever been.
In the past, the community here, and only here, had somewhat of a loose agreement that 2019 - early 2020 DBD was the best, but I am not sure if that is still true.

Unknown and Artist are both 115% speed ranged killers whom are much stronger than 115% speed Trickster as it is, so your entire point about ranged killers needing to be slower is moot. Current Trickster isn't even making the A tier of any tier lists so complaining about him is genuinely a skill issue.
Artist isn't okay either, in fact she is one of the killers I hate most, and the Unknown has the "Ghostface mechanic if it was good". But neither of them are the topic here.
And it is not even close to a "skill issue". An actual skill issue would be if I said Trickster was unbeatable or impossible to escape. He isn't, but he is miserable to go against. Mostly due to how he approaches chases and loops after the rework.

It's what me and others have been saying this whole time before the update- No matter what BHVR does to SM it won't change a thing because a lot of players in the game have an issue with entitlement behavior where they refuse to accept any form of reality at all if it isn't their's and will just say "let's go next" the INSTANT there's something they don't like.
That's what was the biggest issue with SM before her nuking since too many survivors refused to give the match a chance and give up which then screws their team over causing them to give up as well. Imo what BHVR just needs to do is try to find a way to discourage this negative behavior from all players on both side instead so that we don't have all these kinds of problems.
That's what was the biggest issue with SM before her nuking since too many survivors refused to give the match a chance and give up which then screws their team over causing them to give up as well.
Well said.
This is what I was trying to explain earlier this year here on the Forums. SM wasn't even near as problematic as her release version was, and in fact she was easy to defeat, but many players didn't understand that because they would disconnect immediately.
Take this screenshot, for instance. April, iirc:
Or this one:
As long as the whole team didn't give up, there was a chance.
The problem is that many players gave up as soon as they saw her, like the Meg did, and they didn't even try.
If they decided to stick around, like the people in the second game did, they would see that she was different from the release version which everyone hated.

Well, maybe this Legion just wasn't good in chases. It happens.
I recently played against a Dracula, who is extremely oppressive in chases, with 3 gen defense perks that failed to defend gens. But that is because he spent the entire game chasing the same Dwight, and although he did manage to kill Dwight at the end, the gens had already been done. Then he tried to endgame camp with NOED (fun and interactive for both sides, of course), and failed to do that. Me and the other two remaining survivors escaped.

If make him 4.4m and hes worst range killer with 12 hits to down. But im glad people on Reddit dislike this changes and slower speed mostly being scrapped.
But you gotta think about survivors, the killer isn't playing by himself. The fact remains that 4.6 m/s Trickster was terrible to go against, due to the nature of his power.
He is a ranged killer, therefore he is meant to use his power to get downs. But having 4.6 m/s removed that aspect, allowing him to play any tile the usual way. This is fine for other killers, but not for ranged killers. Their weakness is movement, that is good design.
Survivors have to have something they can do.

I remember when the requests for Old Freddy's return began to grow in popularity there was a certain pessimistic feeling that it would never happen, as BHVR was unlikely to revert changes related to killer design.
