This is very surprising, actually.
Skull Merchant is probably one of the weakest killers in the game right now. Hell, I think Freddy is better than her in common scenarios, and that says something.
It is absolutely baffling just how severely this killer was nerfed, when her previous iteration was fine the way she was. If players had just stopped with the petty DCs or hook suicides and had given her a chance, we wouldn't be here right now.
That is why I believe all of her recent nerfs should be reverted, and the rework should be scrapped. Refusing to adapt to something that is not problematic to begin with, just like Freddy immediately after his release, is something that should never be rewarded.

I'm yet to see a single effective use of this perk in my survivor or killer matches. Actually I'm yet to see it at all as killer. Every time I've tried to do anything with StB, it's just had a net neutral effect on the match. Doesn't seem as effective as people are making it out to be, at least not in casual solo queue matches.
Just had it used against me as killer, and yeah it really doesn't do much if the killer isn't hard tunneling:

The first survivor wasn't necessarily just unhooked, he might even be the one coming back to rescue the person who used the burden.
Full example, say you never tunnel and every time, you chase the unhooker:
Without shoulder the burden:
- 0-0-0-0
- 1-0-0-0
- 1-1-0-0
- 2-1-0-0 (survivor 1 rescued survivor 2)
- 2-1-1-0 (survivor 3 rescued survivor 1)
- 3-1-1-0 (survivor 1 rescued survivor 3)
→ 1 kill
With shoulder the burden:
- 0-0-0-0
- 1-0-0-0
- 1-1-0-0
- 2-1-0-0 (survivor 1 rescued survivor 2)
- 1-1-2-0 (survivor 3 rescued survivor 1 and used shoulder the burden)
- 2-1-2-0 (survivor 3 rescued survivor 2)
→ 0 kill
The killer is not tunneling in this example, chasing the unhooker every time, and yet the perk denied them a kill.
You can check that in both cases, the survivors are hooked and unhooked in the exact same order, the only difference is survivor 3 used shoulder the burden at step 5.
I think getting your first kill at 6 hooks would be considered by everyone to be fair, but the perk can deny it.
But there is not tactical advantage here because survivor 3 just sent themselves to death hook.

I just watched A Nightmare on elm street (2010) for the first time since owning this game and thought he really looks like the actor.

What I do know is that the ANOES license isn't exactly easy to work with, it always comes with restrictions.

Freddy's adept isn't easy because you only have Fire Up until the Endgame. I did it back when post-rework Freddy was very powerful, but that isn't the case anymore.

It actually affects even non-tunneling killers.
For example, if the killer gets hook states 1-1-1-0, then 2-1-1-0, then they are clearly not tunneling. Yet someone uses the burden and now it's 1-1-1-1. The killer played nice and yet the perk still works against them.
This perk is not particularly anti-tunnel, it basically affects every killer who doesn't go for 1-1-1-1.
Meanwhile, BHVR will think they addressed tunneling, even though this perk does nothing for solos.
That won't have much of an effect, because if you aren't tunneling then you wouldn't chase the first survivor anyway, considering they just got unhooked. If you go for the unhooker, even if you don't get them instantly with the exposed downside, they are now on death hook and the situation doesn't change for the other two survivors.
It has no effect if you don't tunnel.

It depends on the map. On Dead Dawg its really op and nightmare for killer, especially if this perk run more than 1 survivor.
Maybe, but Dead Dawg is already a killer sided map. Outside of the lockers there isn't much to worry about.

As @jesterkind said, it basically doesn't affect you at all unless you're hard tunneling someone, and their teammates just happen to have the perk equipped.
It is fine, overall. I wish it was a little bit better, but it isn't a problem for the game.

No tribalism please. Thrill is too strong right now. It's not a justification to quit, but it is deserving of a nerf. The buff should have been tested on ptb before being pushed live.

Sometimes the opposite happens.
Earlier today I played a Skull Merchant game because I have not played her since the PTB when she got nerfed and I wanted to see if she was still fun for me.
However, I do not have a lot of experience with SM, and I just happened to get Garden of Joy... needless to say, I lost. Badly.
And the survivors were extremely toxic in the post game chat. I haven't received this level of toxicity since the Forever Freddy days. And that is saying something. All because they disliked the character.
And yes, we all know of Skull Merchant's reputation. But I didn't hold a 3 gen, I didn't tunnel anyone, I did not camp, I did not do anything to warrant toxicity and insults.
If they don't like the character, that is their problem, not mine. I am not toxic against every Wesker I see. That wouldn't be okay.

This is absolutely mild by BHVR standards.
Overall, a really bad time to be playing DBD.
Twins release, the UI changes, that horrible desync a couple patches later, first RE chapter with original RPD and being almost unplayable on consoles…

Yeah, exactly. Counterforce is doing a really bad job at countering Thrill of the Hunt. I have seen people suggest to buff Counterforce, but this would make it harder for players who just use regular Hex-Builds, e.g. someone who just uses Ruin/Undying, which is totally fine to use.
Can you please link me to the post where they said they will address it? Have not seen it yet. EDIT: Found it :)
I agree completely, my friend, buffing Counterforce wouldn't be a good way to fix this problem.

But yeah, running Counterforce is not that helpful against that Build. It is A solution, but not even a good one. And if you dont play against someone using Thrill of the Hunt, you have an empty Perk Slot. Or, even worse, you play against someone who does use Hex-Totems, but not Thrill of the Hunt and this person is basically cooked because they have a even harder time with Hexes now.
And strategies, don't forget the strategies.
"Just run anti-runnel / anti-camping / anti-slug / anti-slowdown / anti-totem" and the list goes on.
Though the problem is that, unlike perks such as Unbreakable or WGLF, Counterforce doesn't do a good job of countering the perk it is supposed to counter.
Thankfully, Thrill won't remain like this. They plan to address it in the next hotfix.

why? the killer commits to a particular perk archetype and expects to get decent rewards from the archetype. Radianthero and Firellius are telling me that when you commit to this archetype, your should still have poor reward where survivor is entirely in control for your perks being relevant.
Hexes are perks with powerful effects that can be removed. That is the high risk / high rewards aspect they are designed around.
Current Thrill eliminates the risk, because you either can't cleanse the totems or you are forced to spent an unreasonably long amount of time doing so. It isn't balanced.

The problem is that Counterforce is not a good counter against current Thrill.
It is barely even worth running.

I'll be working 10 - 16 hour days the rest of the year (some from home so maybe i'll get distracted) but maybe i'll have some xmas day dbd fun, usually only play killer for a few hours on xmas day try give everyone some fun & chill times.
I think the majority of my spare time will go to overwatch, it has its issues but I actually enjoy it (& stream for the kids to watch)
I quite like Trickster had him in & out of rotation over the years, wasn't a big fan of Nemesis but I am determined to play xeno & dredge this year get their adepts if nothing else, unkown has zero appeal to me, nor does singularity to be honest but, would like all adepts before I pack up if nothing else

And I'd agree his kit is very polarising. Some games you feel unstoppable and others you struggle to consitently even keep survivors infected. I think he's in a good place though besides the obnoxious slugging playstyle with his blindness add-on.

And yeah, I agree with what you said here. I have noticed my games with him became slightly more bearable, but maybe that was SBMM deciding to work for once and giving me less skilled opponents because it realized I was struggling.

Guys, I understand all of the frustrations because I did mention that I played exclusively soloq for the day, just to get the better understanding and more in-touch.
But still, overall\in general - the game feels the same, the gameplay is the same, there was no any drastic changes made to the core game, but adding anti-facecamp, base-kit BT, icons, base-kit yellow mori, and some new perks to both sides, which didn't particularly changed the meta. And yet the survivor players smh got worse at doing their job (looping, doing gens)? Genuine question: how?

Honestly - my personal opinion: Something happened to MMR + influx in new players after 2v8 just completely jacked your matches, by matching low hour players with high hour + decent killer. And these low hour players "sabotaging" your games, getting you killed, doesn't do anything to make progress, making a lot of mistakes that benefit the killer player.
Call me crazy, but I genuinely think, this is exactly what's wrong with the game for now.

Yes, I do.
Because even a survivor who is decent in chases would go down if they had nothing or almost nothing to work with. Maps shouldn't be empty or have nothing but filler pallets, they have to have good resources survivors can use, otherwise they just go down. Especially if they are playing against one of the worst, most unfun type of killer we have: M2 zoning.
The Coldwind maps are a perfect example, but it doesn't stop there. The new variations for the MacMillan maps are terrible, reworked Crotus Prenn Asylum is a downgrade compared to the original, and we have maps that have always been awful, such as Dead Dawg Saloon.
The meta plays a part, of course, but I think the maps are more important. And currently, I think many of them do not provide good resources for survivors.

Yep.
We know BHVR takes a little while to change the meta, so unless the next hotfix or the Bone Chill patch nerf Thrill of the Hunt, this will be the meta we will have by the time his rework drops.
It is the end of nerfed Freddy from 4.7.0, and I really hope the rework is something that will make him better.

So I've decided to use the build myself instead of just playing against it, and it has had some interesting results:
It didn't work perfectly, but those Totems did last longer than they usually do.
Freddy seems to have… a mixed, uncertain synergy with what is probably the last meta this version of him will see.

Im seeing deadzones and just blank spots nonstop on maps now. Entire sections of the map where there is just a single or NO pallets. Or the pallet that is there is like the ones in ormond on tables and a snowman lol.
Not sure what the map logic is turning into but its a bit annoying.Coldwind maps in particular, I'd say.

Funnily enough, my friend, I do have a short list of killers that I own but never played: Xeno, Trickster and Nemesis.

Because you spend all this time and effort setting up cameras, infecting, spreading damage, only to have 3 hooks at like 1 gen. His EMPs do too much, and spawn way too free and constant. They cure an infection, a teammate's infection, or both at the same time, AS WELL AS disabling a camera, or however many fit in the EMP range, all in 1 use. And then they lose infection for free upon hook. If that doesn't spell broken, I don't know what does. Nothing about this killer works. They vault a window, you tp on them, and the game decides to put you on the same side of the window you were already on. So all these built-in disadvantages literally force you to slug everyone or tunnel. Nobody wants to play a killer who's forced to do that, especially with the added frustration of having your power disabled all match.
That's why I don't play Hag anymore either. You do all this set-up, take every right chase, drop every bad one, but none of it matters because your web of traps gets destroyed in the 5-10 seconds you take picking up/carrying to hook, and the survivors can exploit to not have their cameras turn and already be 5 feet away even when you instantly react to a phantasm trigger. And of course, they can wipe away your traps for free now. They don't even have to chance risk and trip your traps. You could always run Rusty Shackles, but to me that's the "turn your brain off" version of Hag which takes no skill. With Twins you get the obvious problems: holding Victor hostage, long cooldowns and animations on everything, locker techs, wildly inconsistent hitbox on Victor, survivors get an eternity to kick him as well, and 2 survivors simply running together counters Victor (because the still-up one kicks him, and they're both back up before you can even get back to them).
I am almost convinced the game forcing you to teleport to the same place at a window vault is a bug that never got fixed, because it is just… weird.

A change of pace, yes, but honestly I have been struggling a lot trying to learn this killer. I am afraid it will come to a point where the frustration is stronger than the satisfaction you get from understanding a new character.

E.g. the killer finds hatch and the spots you while you're trying to open the gate... it's like you're a done deal at that point, and I end up thinking "well at least let's make it cool" xD

It isn't griefing, people just do that when a new character changes the meta (though, in Taurie's case it is a bit weird because Shoulder the Burden is weaker than it should be).
You just assume people will have the perk, and sometimes they'll become a priority for the killer. It happened with Mikaela, and even Laurie with the earlier iterations of DS.
