Agreed. If I was tasked with designing the most brain-dead killer who can 4k with minimal effort, I'd design Ghoul. It's so mind-numbingly boring that I'm surprised it made it to the live servers.
I agree.
Personally, I don't care if something takes or doesn't take skill. Because, at the end of the day it doesn't matter if it requires skill to make someone's game miserable, you're still making someone's game miserable, which is exactly what Ghoul does when you play against him.
-
Well, the thing about Freddy is that he really feels uninspired, and boring. He doesn't really do anything unique, everything he has someone else also has or has a similar enough ability, and they often do it better than he does.
-
My main has always been Freddy, ever since I first started playing DBD, all the way back in 2018!
I also played quite a bit of Skull Merchant, but Freddy will always be my favorite.

I agree with you on the dissolution, bam/centipede front.
They’re incredibly strong on him, when I do play ghost I don’t run them.
And for skull merchant yeah 1.0 chess merchant was an issue, i was mainly thinking about post rework and people still dc-ing against chase merchant, or laser tag merchant.
i was mainly thinking about post rework and people still dc-ing against chase merchant, or laser tag merchant.
Still extremely unfair that these players who straight up refused to learn a simple, intuitive counterplay, got what they wanted in the end.

Opressive is not the word i would use. There are many killers with far better anti-loop, Xeno can just put you in lose lose situations more often at close range.
Even if turrets were removed, I am not sure he would end up as an A tier. So no, turrets should just be buying you time in chase, not kicking the killer out of power with no way for the killer to actually do something about it.
But that is the thing: a killer shouldn't be able to put you in in a lose lose situation. There should never be a scenario in DBD where there is nothing you can do.
Which is why the turrets have to be powerful. Xeno should be knocked out of his power, because if he isn't he will down a survivor extremely fast.
-
That is when my stance of never bringing my own items into a match actually helps.
Don't mind the Bloodweb junk, I'm never gonna use any of it anyway.
-
In my opinion, he is wrong.
Jason is THE slasher. That alone is enough for him to be added.
-
Personally, I think it is fine that turrets can be placed so close together.
Xeno's crawler mode is extremely oppressive in chase. The survivors line of defense against it has to be very powerful and effective because otherwise he will down them way too quickly.
The more effective a killer is in chase, the more powerful the conterplay against them has to be.

Hits through pallets on stun should never happen to begin with.
They just needed to adjust the desync between your client and the server, so you should not hear the scream or see the blood. We both can agree (I believe) that getting hits when you successfully stun the killer should never happen.
This is the only thing that annoys me in DBD.I know you are reasonable person and I respect your inputs most of the time.
I think they are fine, to a certain extent, mostly because it is very difficult to fix, as we all know from experience.

This was happening to me a lot as killer as well, but never as survivor, so I always wondered if it looked different on the surivivor's end.
Good question, friend. I think it looked fine on the survivor's end, but I'm not sure. I was playing more killer than survivor at the time.

the devs said they'll leave her be if she's actually in a good spot from her recent buffs, which obviously that wasn't the case as she's still dog water, so I really wonder of what plans are they gonna do with her, hopefully not take like 1 to 2 years
I may be totally wrong on this one, but I feel like the expectations around those awful design previews was that, somehow, they would be well received.
But since they obviously were not, as they completely deleted any identity the Skull Merchant has, she is kinda being left aimlessly. I have no doubt she would be left as she was if her strength wasn't so abysmal.
-
How mysterious!
Unfortunately I'm also not very good at those. Hopefully someone out there will manage to solve it, friend.

I wanna remind you that they fixed those ping hits few years ago…
DBD for survivior felt amazing then.
but they brought it back to the previous state because killer mains shared their "feedback".
Well, friend, that is not what happened.
In reality, the system was awful and completely broken. There were games where I, having the best ping of the lobby mind you, hit a David through the pallet with my chainsaw as Bubba, I heard his scream, I saw the blood… and he walked away as if nothing had happened.
It was not a good system and it did not work.

Probably because the only people that genuinely enjoy knight are the people that main him. To everyone else, he's cheap, annoying, skill-less, and honestly a waste of storage space on everyone's game install.
Also, the devs value a 2v8 playerbase over the 500 or so dark souls/for honor/HEMA fans who want to LARP in 2v8. People stopped playing 2v8 because of legion/oni so they killswitched legion. Knight would tank the player count because of his infamy.
Well, my friend, personally I enjoy going against Knight, especially before his first rework.
I felt like he was a very tactical killer, and those are more fun for me than dashlop number #500.

Probably because the poor guy is always bugged in one way or the other, and thats on 1v4. Imagine how 2v8 could, unfortunately, break his power.

Very, very interesting stuff.
As far as I'm aware they said they would not do cosmetics as prestige rewards, so my guess is that those skins will be tied to some sort of quest. Road to anniversary, perhaps?

How do I make you realize how fun he is to play as and against? Have you tried playing as or against him in 2v8? Undetectable Wesker is actually scary as hell.
Played against him far more than I would have liked to, my dear friend. By far the killer I hate most and the least fun to go against.
As for playing as him, I'll never do that.

It makes sense that every Killer has their own MMR. But I think it was overall not worth it to introduce this. Because you need quite a bunch of games to reach a MMR-Level where you are comfortable with the new Killer. And you have to start at the average Killer-MMR, because while the Killer is new, all the knowledge of the game is still there.
But I think that there is 0 difference between MMR and old Ranks when you want to try a new Killer. Because I think when you reach the point where your MMR adjusted for the new Killer, you probably have played that Killer enough to do well anyway.
When you wanna try a new killer, yes, they are pretty much the same.
But overall, I think the original rank system with the actual rank reset was better than the MMR system.

May he rest in peace.

Of course, I can explain what I mean. Thank you for being so respectful.
In my humble opinion, “new” Freddy’s power is kinda awkwardly shoehorned in. The same thing happened with Myers and how he’s uncharacteristically and very much uncanonically become a dash killer. Most of the newer killer roster over the last few years have had powers that have been mobility/anti-loop focused. Freddy was released in a time when the game was still designed for survivors playing stealthy. These “reworks” of older killers seem to just remove any of their unique traits and awkwardly put powers on them that are characteristic of newer killers (Myers is essentially a buffed Chucky, for example).
It’s not just Freddy; Trapper, Hag, Wraith, Ghostface etc all have powers which just don’t translate into modern DBD very well. BHVR can “buff” them all they want but their powers are fundamentally flawed and were designed in the days when people played this game very differently.I agree though my friend, I too miss old DBD. Don’t get me wrong, there were some aspects that were broken/unfun to play, but the game feels less and less like a horror game these days.
Thanks for the explanation, my friend, I believe I understood your point here!
Come to think of it, those might be the reasons why I really enjoy playing against stealthy groups these days. They are rare, sadly, but I like facing them when it happens. Its like a nod to the good old days.

It was kinda funny how people kept underestimating him then when they meet people who used him well it turned into a "######### just happened" moment
A lot of underestimation, my friends, that is for sure.
And honestly, some of it was justified. I mean, his nerfs one week after his release were very severe. But weakest in the game? No, not even close.
That was only the case if someone were to make the absolute worst mistake you could do with original Freddy: play him like Wraith. Or at least the way people played Wraith back then.
Stealth and map control are different playstyles, and many players seemed not to realize it.

Nah current merchant is still good compare to og freddy who had to run addons so he could put survivors into sleep faster or he couldnt harm them and that was his power plus slowdown to sleeping survivors but just fail skill check and you were awake so very harmless killer especialy when we take in count the number of pallets and perks being stronger like dead hard, ds.
If only I had my own gameplay to share from the good old days.
I guarantee I would change your mind.
-
@sonata93 said:
I dislike playing against him. Not because I think he’s overly strong or anything, he’s just “there” if that makes sense. He stomps newbies but that’s only cause they don’t understand how his power works.
Here’s the issue with Freddy: his power is mid at best. The fake pallets are easy to spot a mile off and you don’t need to be a god-tier survivor to recognize them. His projectile is kinda “meh” and gen teleportation is probably his only redeeming quality. But when you have high-mobility monsters like Ghoul and Blight in the game, the gen teleportation seems kinda mid, too
He essentially suffers the same issues as the likes of Pig, Ghostface, and Trapper. Their powers are good on paper, but are so easily countered that they just become M1 killers. I think even with his rework, he’s a relic of old DBD. Killer design nowadays lean far more into anti-loop and passive match slowdown because it counters survivor play styles. Older killers were designed for an iteration of DBD that no longer exists.
Respectfully, friend, may I ask you to share a little bit more about why you believe his current power is a relic?
Generally speaking, I have a strong preference for Old DBD. I think it was an overall better experience than the game we have today, and I would happily return to it if it was possible to do so. I dare say I have a good grasp on the finer details of Old DBD and, frankly, I don't think current Freddy has anything to do with it, really.
I would argue that it is the opposite, in fact. That the lack of unique mechanics and overuse of what essentially are recycled abilities are characteristic of the modern DBD.
-
Well, Mileena is not only my absolute favorite MK character, but also one of my favorite fictional characters in general, so if she gets to be in the game as a collab skin I would love it.

I personally disagree because I do enjoy the mode, regardless of changes or none. I just think people need to realise it's not for them.
Eventually if there isn't enough people playing that's when the stats start talking, otherwise rn, I see plenty people playing it. It's mainly Core DBD players who seem bothered by it.I don't dislike it, but not having a single killer I enjoy really gets tiring after a few games.

I dont want it gone forever, i just want bigger breaks in between so BHVR can make meaningful changes to the mode. It feels like the last two times this mode has come around it began to grow stale very fast.
I agree, then.
-
I don't think they should can it, but I do think they shouldn't bring it back unless they have two new killers added per iteration.
-
@ObsidianButterfly said:
I think he is mostly fine now. Pretty middle-of-the-road, which is a good place to be. I do kind of wish they didn't just turn him into another projectile killer though. They could have come up with something more interesting.
However, considering both Freddy and Myers reworks, it has me terrified what they plan to do to Skull Merchant. She's been in such a terrible state (probably even worse than Freddy ever was even at his worst), BHVR went back on their word about her, and their is no indication she is leaving F tier any time soon. And if/when she does, she will most likely just end up ANOTHER garbage projectile or dash killer.
Oh, hello, dear friend! Good to see you here!
Yes, it is a rather concerning topic, is it not? I think she is safe from the dashslop, but the projectile is, unfortunately, a real possibility.

Back then we didn't unhook when the killer was near, and if the killer WAS near you did gens instead. To be fair gens were slightly shorter then, 80 seconds as opposed to 90. But the hook timer was also 60 seconds and not 70, so i feel it does balance out. In general i have seen the quality of survivor play continue to go down as more and more hand-holdy basekit mechanics are added for survivors.
We did, actually. Because just like today, sometimes the killer doesn't wander far. And when they don't, having a protection of some kind for the person who got off the hook is pretty much mandatory.
Ya know I generally have a preference for Old DBD rather than the modern game, would go back in a heartbeat if I could, but a QoL feature such as this really isn't any kid of hand-holding.

Pallets are addictive once you start catching people with them. For fun, I suggest going upstairs in the main building of the Ormond maps (especially the newer one) and sniping survivors, it's a blast.
I'll give it a try at some point, friend!
-
@Reinami said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4077896#Comment_4077896
When did i say hooking was them failing at their objective? And what about the survivor perks that reward them for getting hooked? The point is that killer perks tend to reward them for doing well, and survivor perks reward them when they aren't doing well.
Here's a great example, look at Hex NOED. NOED has been nerfed multiple times now because its unfun, because killers are "rewarded" for doing badly. Can you explain to me how getting basekit bt is not being rewarded for doing badly?
Well, friend, you brought up the question of "Did you play DBD like 6 years ago?". But that is your answer about basekit BT. It isn't an "anti" anything mechanic, it is something that has to exist.
Because, as you will certainly recall, every single survivor had to have BT because saving someone without it was straight up a death sentence for the person who just got unhooked. Basekit BT isn't a reward for doing poorly, survivors will most likely go down at some point (especially with the wave of anti-loop killers that we have), it is a way of stopping the killer from instantly hitting you as soon as you leave that hook.

Please vote Freddy and Dredge.

Who is saying that killer side is wholesome and all survivors are toxic, other than a few one-sided players in the community? There is nothing to “move past” because this idea is not something that is a commonly-held belief in the community. I see people here all the time complaining about killers being toxic, this post being a prime example. This is simply another strawman that only serves to proliferate the “us vs them” attitude.
"Both sides have their unfortunate share of toxic players and they both have it in equal measure."
That is the opposite of an "us vs them" attitude.
@Aven_Fallen said:

Yeah, saying that it was once not a strawman would have been correct. But @GeneralV spoke about the past and in the past it was indeed seen that Survivors are monster coated monsters with monster filling and Killers are cute little fluffballs who just want to have fun.
It went past that, but not because there was a decrease in Killer toxicity. Both sides have a bunch of very toxic people.
Yeah, that is pretty much it.
Good thing it doesn't happen as often anymore.
-
Glad we are moving past the idea that the killer side is wholesome and free of toxicity while survivors are all toxic, at least.
