Fog was a huge part of the theme of the game from the beginning. It's about time it was present on maps again. Also has felt stupid waving to the killer from across the map for the last few years.

Well said friend, I agree completely.

  • It would be an endless wave of insults, screaming and other unpleasant consequences of voice chat.

    I would mute it immediately.

  • I think they should have pre-nerfed opacity with limited charges.

  • To be fair, friend, you don't have to equip it. You can just ignore it.

  • I still think Boil Over should have never been buffed. Its original version was fine as it was.

  • Hopefully it doesn't take too long.

It is wild that Skull Merchant, who was perfectly fine the way she was, gets severely nerfed while Ghoul, who is genuinely overpowered, remains the way he is.

I noticed that there is no direct mention of Skull Merchant in this roadmap. Is that because she will not be receiving changes during the period the roadmap encompassess, or because she was just not mentioned?

Both Skull Merchant and Trickster have their changes set to 2026, friend.

  • This sounds good, but we still have to wait and see the actual results. Hopefully there will be attention paid to community feedback as these QoL updates happen.

I totally hear the frustration here and know I personally can't change how these nerfs feel for you, but I do want to make sure the feedback I'm bringing back to the team is as specific as possible and as representative of your experiences in the game as possible. With that, it makes it easier to advocate for changes.

If you don't mind me pulling this back a step to dig into the details, I'd like to ask two specific questions:

    1. Of the two recent nerfs to Fog Vials (reduced opacity; max 2 charges), do you feel that one of these in particular pushed the item from feeling viable to feeling like it's not worth using? If so, which was it?
    2. If you could make one specific change to Fog Vials that'd push them towards being an item you'd enjoy using, what would it be?

I hear the more general feedback (and rest assured, it's being collected and shared with the team), but if there are specific facets of the recent nerfs that felt most impactful, I want to make sure I'm giving them my particular attention. That, and things that could make Fog Vials feel better for you (like the great suggestions of increasing the total charges a little more).

    1- The opacity change.

    2- Revert the opacity change.

Honestly, I don't think they should have infinite charges. No item in DBD does. But they need to actually have an effect, and I think the opacity change just made them… kinda useless.

sure it does, otherwise survivors could make a sport of just hiding forever. hatch and EGC encourage survivors to move if they want to resolve a cooked match.

just because people attach their egos to a mechanic designed to close games doesn't mean it doesn't do what it's intended just because some people would camp hatch for 15 minutes because a survivor tbagged them one time.

I still think they should have left the hatch grabs in the game, but also give the option for killers to close it.

Make the hatch really feel like a last resort. Once you find it, you have to leave.

  • Honestly, I would have preferred if they had adjusted the maps and left the offerings as they were.

  • I got lucky with a Hillbilly who was having a hard time landing his chainsaw attacks, but even getting the map in the first place took a long time.

  • The Skull Merchant's rework is the one I'm paying attention to, especially because most of what we've heard so far hasn't been good.

The two design previews were, in my opinion, really bad. Not only they presented a killer that would be boring to play as and against, but also completely erased her identity and replaced with dash and mid-range M2, things we already have more than enough of.

The reassurance came from the fact that the design previews were, well, previews. They were not final, they could be subjected to changes and, most importantly, could be used to collect feedback. From what I've seen, Skull Merchant players were clear when expressing their dislike of the identity erasure, even in discussions that happened after said previews. However, when the future of Skull Merchant was mentioned in the Reddit AMA,  the response wasn't exactly promising.

They mentioned three things: "Retain trap playstyle", "Remove passive lethality" and "The Buddy Drone".

"Retain trap playstyle". This one is good and there are no negatives about it. Preserving the trap playstyle is extremely important and I was happy when I read it. The other two, however, are far more concerning.

"Remove passive lethality". This one is mixed. When I first read it, I thought it was a contradiction. Because trap killers have passive lethality, that is the point of a trap killer. The active part of their playstyle is setting up and creating your web, and this web of traps they create passively acquires results. This is true for Trapper and Hag. Trapper doesn't manually control his traps to go around the map chomping survivors, and Hag doesn't move her phantasms until a teleport is available. These killers have passive gains, that is how it should work.

However, here there is a possibility that they meant something similar to her original design. If you recall, Skull Merchant's drones originally exposed you and applied the claw trap, but they didn't injure you. If that is what they mean, then it is okay.

"The Buddy Drone": this one is, by far, the worst of the three, and easily the most concerning. As of the moment this post is being written, the only information we have regarding this feature is the second design preview, where the Buddy Drone was exactly what she shouldn't have: ranged M2. I believe I speak for most SM mains here when I say that, if we wanted to play a M2 killer, we wouldn't have chosen Skull Merchant. There are plenty of other killers with projectiles and ranged M2 attacks. Skull Merchant shouldn't become another one of those.

I strongly believe this drone companion should either do something else entirely or, ideally, never get added.

I don't think she should become anything other than who she is. And the preservation of identity, especially in a killer that was treated unfairly after the first rework, is of extreme importance. But we have yet to get a third design preview, and for now we just keep wondering what, exactly, they will do to her.

  • Good to see Skull Merchant appreciation!

Wish she was a bit higher though :(

@GeneralV You're 100% right my friend. This makes me not want to report bugs anymore. I did it every week multiple times a week, I submitted video after video, reported hackers time and time again despite how tedious the process is because we dont have a proper ingame report system to help deal with this.

I am very frustrated and honestly disheartened. I try really hard to help the community where I can, I put a lot of effort here on the forums like many of you to vocalize for dbd and ultimately support it…but I am questioning that now. Am I even heard?

It really makes you question what does it even take for your voice and feedback to be heard.

  • What I've found particularly concerning is how little the community's voice seems to matter. Otz and Chandler were telling them how to literally fix the issue, and they were dismissed.

What does this tell everyone who plays the PTB, reports bugs, leave feedback? What does this tell people who main characters that are set to be changed: Skull Merchant, Myers, Trickster? What does this tell the community itself?

And all of this right after that mess with Streetwise.

  • Coldwind rework was, by far, the worst map rework we've had.

  • @BlackRabies said:

The 2% buff to the yellow is barely noticeable, but what is very noticeable is that the yellow activates a lot faster so every clown freely spam them out now.

Wasn't Skull Merchant complain about being too easy and free hits? Not counting the 3 gen hostage since that's no longer works. Now we got Clown and Ghoul that's when more oppressive than SM back in her 2.0 state. Can't really change them unless Clown is reverted back to how he was before and Ghoul would be a heavy rework.

Would gladly have 2.0 SM back if it meant reverting Clown and fixing Ghoul.

Would gladly have 2.0 SM back

    Same, friend. Same.

Worst of all is that it could have been avoided.

    I don't even believe it's worse.

It's just that this chapter has been a perfect storm of all the things BHVR has been ignoring.

The level of polish I saw when I was in the earliest BF Labs playtests was somehow higher than 9 YEARS of BHVR.

Well, my friend, I wouldn't say the chapter release is worse than A Binding Of Kin, because that one really did break the entire game.

But overall I think this chapter is the closest we've had to that state of the game, and things… well, things have been handled poorly, at least in my opinion.

  • Yeah, I tried watching a little bit of the stream, but I just couldn't, it was really bad.

In recent discussions I have been saying that this is the worst chapter release since A Binding Of Kin, but honestly this is going beyond the actual chapter. The state of the game, and the things around it, are worse now than they have been in years.

Her manufacturer stopped making her Drone Sensors and she had to switch to Temu… tragic.

    So unfair, isn't it?

The fact that she got nerfed because people refused to leave the hate train is genuinely unacceptable.

  • Unfortunately, it isn't a bug.

Her drones cannot detect you if you are doing an action, they cannot detect you if you are standing still, they cannot detect you if you crouch and, the most insulting one, they cannot detect you if you are fast vaulting.

  • Honestly, friend, I don't know.

In the past, I thought it would be the whole process of changing Old DBD content. When I first started playing DBD, back in December of 2018, I really loved everything about the game: perks, powers, add-ons, maps, atmosphere, and the list goes on.

When many of these things were changed, especially around the time the big map reworks started to drop, I really disliked it. It got to a point where I felt like I was playing a different game, it no longer felt like Dead by Daylight. I pushed through it for a while, but eventually I decided to take a break, which was around late 2022 - early 2023.

And, to be completely honest, I sorely regret taking said break. I feel like I missed out on a lot of things I shouldn't have, and if I could change the past I would have never taken this break.

I don't want to make that mistake again. So honestly, I don't know what would make me stop playing DBD.

First, Skull Merchant is fine, you people just hate having to try. Second, the first "QOL Change" they did were the Fog Vials, and thanks to Killer mains complaining they've nerfed it into being useless. They don't care about the Survivor role, and no amount of people like you crotch riding the devs will change reality.

First, Skull Merchant is fine, you people just hate having to try.

    She isn't fine, my friend.

While it is possible to win with her, her unnecessary nerfs really hurt her.

It's a terrible system that needs to be shut off until they can get it right.

Exactly so Devs gotta make Survivor super appealing and make wanting to play Killer unappealing

Well, even if they made the killer role unappealing to play, I think many players would still prefer it over survivor.

There isn't really anything special about survivor in 2v8, sadly.

  • @SoGo said:

    Ok, but… why?

It's not like any of them were underpowered or anything?

    Make survivor more appealing.

Most people want 2v8 specifically to play killer, which creates the issue of extremely long queue times.

  • Not often, no.

Notably I had a match with four DCs, but it was a while ago:

    202508~1.JPG

It was an extreme scenario, but basically the only one I can think of since the anniversary ended.

As survivor, I see many DCs specifically when the killer is Ghoul.

  • Yes, honestly friend I believe this was the worst chapter release since A Binding Of Kin and the worst overall state of DBD since that patch.

  • In October of 2017, a few days after Freddy's release, one of my favorite DBD content creators from back in the day made a video where he was going for a 4-man Devour Hope. And, in that video, he says that finding Totems "is like playing Where's Waldo, with Waldo standing in a white room by himself".

    And in the current DBD…

    image.png

    The situation still hasn't changed.

  • This new map is probably one of the worst in the entire game.

It is very underwhelming and there isn't really anything special about it.

  • Well, old friend, Skull Merchant 2.0 only got nerfed because of the "hate train" caused by her release + the meta at the time of her release.

Kaneki, who unlike SM does need nerfs, will probably stay the way he is for a while. At least that is what we can assume from the latest Reddit AMA. Just hope it doesn't take too long.

  • @ReverseVelocity said:

    Release Freddy.

Always will remain as one of the most fun characters in DBD's history, dearest friend.

  • @TWiXT said:

The lowest picked 5 are Twins, Hag, Skull Merchant, Artist, Cenobite, and Demogorgon is 6th (which i still think is a misspelling since Demi = Half, and Gorgon = Monster, so Demigorgon = "half monster" works better, whereas Demo = abbreviation for Demonstration, And thus, with it's official spelling saying I'm playing the "Demonstration Monster", rather than the more aptly named man-like "Half monster" I'm a bit perturbed but… whatever). so yeah, Skull Merchant is on the list!

Right after that is Plague in 7th place, and she's my go-to girl, so if I have time I'll fill her in (no sexual context intended).

If you wanna Watch, my handle is TWiXT_Pr1me on Kick. I stream late between 8pm-2 am Eastern time, and 5pm-11pm Pacific time. I'll be doing one of each killer each day next week, so look forward to Wednesday for your favorite girl.

That is good to know, friend! I'll definitely try my best to be there and see your SM gameplay, but if I can't make it I will still watch the VOD, should you choose to leave it available!

  • @TWiXT said:

Gonna be doing a thing for my stream next week:

Enthusiastic Killer Main Plays only the LEAST picked killers!

Here's hoping I'll have you in one of my matches that week… depends on how many killers are playing vs survivors, and your region of course. If I miss you, hopefully my stream gets enough attention that others take on the challenge… not likely, but I can dream.

Will there be a bit of Skull Merchant gameplay, old friend?

  • Wish I saw my favorites more often, tbh.

Earlier today I was really happy to play against a Skull Merchant, but unfortunately I eventually got tunneled out.

And it was sad because I didn't want to leave that game, I wanted to stay there with one of my favorite killers.

The exact same thing happened with Freddy years ago, before his changes. I get a killer I love, and they tunnel me :(

Im curious as why you hate Wesker so much and find him overtuned? He had a big nerf to his infection (which I think should be reworked to do something else rather than hinder) and the buffs he did get were fairly minor (except the one from 3 years ago that made him nicer to play).

Well, my friend,  it is mostly because of how bloated his kit is for a dash killer. A killer whose primary power is movement based cannot have so many things in their kit, otherwise there is very little you can actually do to stop them.

Wesker gets dash, injury on windows, passive slowdown with the infection, killer instinct when you remove the infection, and he can throw you on a random direction which no other killer can do. It is too much, way too much, for a power that is primarily movement based.

That doesn't make him impossible to beat, of course, but it makes him utterly miserable to go against, in my opinion.

I think for me, they could have just capped the uses and maybe done away with the noise suppression and allowed noise.

My main point and I’m going to stand on business for this is if you release or make things more advantageous for the opposite side than the side using it, why would you pick it for your side? There needs to be a reason for it to be picked on the side using it. That’s just the natural path of logic in PvP for a very vast majority of people.

    I agree, my friend.

I wouldn't say maps and keys are worse than before, not even close.

As I've said in another thread, keys in particular are almost JUST flat out significantly stronger. The only asterisk that goes on this statement is that the Blood Amber in particular is weaker, but keys now do so much more than before that it more than makes up for that nerf.
Keys are still useful for the hatch, but they now function as replacement items for perks such as Bond and Empathy without needing to use addon slots on it, and they also fit into chest-searching builds unbelievably well. They are just flat out a good and worthwhile item that I'd probably put on par with flashlights overall, in terms of strength and viability.

Obviously, they don't match medkits and especially not toolboxes, but that's a really high bar.

Maps are definitely more arguable since they lost a lot of functionality - I have a whole thread about how I don't like the rework for a myriad of reasons - but I still think they're arguably better than before. If you want totem hunting, sure, you have to use an expensive purple addon and that sucks… but the map's still just as good at doing that. They now also have the Windows effect, which is fairly middling as effects go but still useful, so they're still doing okay and on average are honestly a little better since their no-addon effects are far more noticeable, at least for the lower rarity map.
It's more the shape of the rework that's a problem than the strength of the rework.

Fog Vials I can't comment on, I've not played a game with nerfed Fog Vials in yet.

Fog Vials I can't comment on, I've not played a game with nerfed Fog Vials in yet.

    They are, uh… kinda useless.

While I do think infinite uses was too much, I think that adjustment was the only thing they needed.

  • I main Skull Merchant!

What I would change about her if I could is, quite simply, revert her. Ideally to version 2.0, but I would happily accept the first version, or the 6.6.2 iteration, or even a mix between them.

  • Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to say Pain Res on Skull Merchant.

She needs all the help she can get, and this perk helps a lot.
