  • They take reports seriously if you're reporting for actual bannable offences. It's no wonder you think your reports are being ignored if you're reporting people for things like slugging and closing the hatch. Those aren't reportable offences, so honestly you're probably right - they're not taking them seriously. That doesn't mean the entire system needs to be changed, it just means that you need to make sure certain actions are actually against the rules before you report them.

Here is a link to the Game Rules post if you need it, which lists which actions are and are not reportable: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system

Tks, @Fibijean. And do you know the base distance of the Dream Lullaby?

I believe it's 32 metres, the same as his default terror radius. Unlike the terror radius, though, as discussed above, the distance can't be altered with perks or add-ons.

I mean someone who has been here through all the highs and lows, original space billy, 120 second noed, all of it

some bills are also just super good for no reason, like, the best???

Right, that makes sense. Probably would have figured that out if I were less tired!

And yeah, I agree, Bills do tend to be an either/or situation. They're either unsung heroes or embarrassing roadblocks.

  • The perk was introduced when Trapper was one third of the killer roster, so it made more sense then than it does now. I don't think they ever expected the game or the character selection to get this big when they first introduced it. But I was talking to Almo about Slippery Meat on his stream the other day, and he said it's definitely something they'd like to change.

There is no visible Entity Blocker. This combined with the fact that they reduced the distance where you hear it (a few Patches ago) makes it difficult to notice sometimes.

(Strangely I see more Bamboozles lately...)

I didn't know this, but it makes a lot of sense. I had a game as Clown the other day where a survivor ran at a window I had just Bamboozled and was trying and failing to vault through it. I assumed they were just new and didn't understand what the block meant.

  • In my opinion, having the mask on Legion not only works thematically (unifying the members as parts of a whole by dehumanising them) but is the only thing that makes the character design even remotely intimidating. Take that away and they're literally just a normal person with a knife.

P3 survivors will likely be running most, of all the meta.

If I only see one flashlight I gamble based on cosmetics they know how to use it

Matching cosmetics are often the fun police

I expect huntresses who cant hit hatchets well to camp

I expect almost all Deathsling, I-, I hate this name. all Debt-slingers often proxy camp and overall either tunnel or play sweaty.

I expect all billies and oni's to tunnel, and if they're bad with their power to hard camp or be super toxic in the endgame

Bubbas are either memeing or suck ass.

clowns, if base cosmetic + frosty eyes camp, and tunnel, if they have cosmetics, oten play decent but have noed.

Trappers will always hard camp if they feel even slightly backed into a corner

All hags "trap camp" and my teammates I always expect to be to stupid to crouch

Snoot owners are always fun, unless they're new to her, which then often end in mori/noed.

Freddies are always fun police, with 2+ slowdown or annoying add ons and consistent mori's.

Demos are always the guys who don't care if they do good or bad, will BM to meme and overall are fun to go against

legion will always have thana, and pop, and if you make them miss a hit in FF expect to me tunneled or proxy camped

I don't see enough plagues to make one, but I always expect my teammates to cleanse, and the plague to be running thana and play half decent mostly.

Davids are just, how are they so stupid, so consistently????

Doctors always tunnel when newer, and when better are honestly some of the most annoying games to play

Michaels are always moreso decent, or memers, which always lead to a f un match full of jumpscares and "OH HE WaS STALKING US"

Nurses are either babys or gods. No inbetween.

Wraiths, base cosmetic, will invisi-camp. With P3 cosmetics or pricey cosmetics, will play better, but probably try to play like TRU3

Ghostfaces are always sweaty. Not necessarily good, but sweaty.

Most Neas are wannabe Ussylis and Boob3

Dwights are either hidden gods or suck

megs, oh god, they're megheads everytime.

claudette you can count on being useless, unless theyre running some premium cosmetic. Then its a 50/50 idf theyre good,

Jakes are either ascended survivors, monto impersonators, or memers

Aces are confident, and somehow will do great on loops they should suck at, and suck at loops that are braindead easy

Bills are new, or day-1 vets.

    Fengs are Neas, but asian.

Laurie you can count on having DS and the confidence behind having old DS, but never having the skill to back old DS

    Davids are stoopid

    Quentins, I dont see any

    Dont see any tapps

    Kates are always annoying

Adams ALWAYS EITHER HAVE PEBBLE OR DELIVERANCE

The rest I dont really have stereotypes.

That's awesome, thank you, exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for!

One small question, what do you mean by a "day-1 vet"? This thread is teaching me that I'm not as up-to-date with the lingo as I thought I was 😅

  • It shouldn't. Terror radius refers strictly to the heartbeat sound. Secondary sound effects, like Freddy's lullaby, Huntress' humming, or Spirit's phasing sound, are a separate thing entirely and have no bearing on anything which affects or is affected by the terror radius. So in Freddy's case, M&A will effectively only work on survivors who are awake.

  • No, it doesn't do them any good, and it does more harm to them in the long run than it does to anyone else, because that kind of thing is character-corrupting, whether people recognise it or not. Some people only care about others to the extent that it impacts them personally - they'll happily treat a stranger horribly, because chances are that they'll never have to face any consequences, and they're more likely to do that online because their chances of avoiding responsibility are higher. It's quite sad, but it's how it is. Nothing some random stranger says or does is likely to change their mind.

    As Killer

When I see survivors in darker clothing, i tend to be more aware and aggressive towards them. I have bad eye sight so they are my worst enemy in this game. Take them down as soon as possible. If they tend to have brighter clothing, im less aggressive. The reason why are my experiences, they tend to want to get chased and waste my time. I go more aggressive if they act 'toxic' or have a key.

I know the stereotype where characters that wear brighter clothing tend to be more aggressive and cocky, i dont see it, always. Some try what i do just be sneaky even with brighter clothing. I tend to wear brighter clothing not because I think im the bee's knee or anything, i like the clothing options.

    As Survivor

I don't expect killers to meme(I have seen it) but i expect any killer to camp and/or tunnel, depending on the circumstance of the trial. I don't automatically see a certain killer and think "well GG" "Game Over" Anything could happen to change the ending result. I do dislike others more than necessary but never where i assume i already lost.

If i see my teammates play a certain character, i dont get annoyed or assume immediately on how they play. I have seen the stereotypes and experienced some but i don't think it off the bat. I judge how they play during the match. After all as the player you have control of the actions of the character. Your play style would most likely be the same even if you switch characters.

Thanks for the detailed response 😊 Would you be able to elaborate on which killers you particularly dislike, and why?

It's really just a bloodpoint grind. You don't even have to play with a character to p3 them. If someone wanted, they could use their best killer to grind out bloodpoints to p3 all survivors while never playing survivor.

Sure. Again, I'm not pretending my biases are entirely rational, I just think it's interesting to acknowledge them and consider where they might come from, even if they don't actually make a whole lot of sense when you really think about it.

You have to consider that if you prestige a character one can assume that you like and play that killer/survivor a lot and therefore should be more experienced using them.

The other factor you have to consider is that licensed characters have very little cosmetics to choose from if tjey have them at all so that way they only have that prestige clothing as another outfit.

There also some people that would like to get certain cosmetics but can't afford them so they continue using the prestige outfit

Point c is very subjective. For example in my opinion the prestige outfit is Onis best cosmetic. Also a lot of players are using the P3 Head cosmetics because the fit to a lot of cosmetics.

Those are reasonable points, but just to be clear, the whole thing is subjective. I'm not trying to construct a rational argument, I'm just trying to self-analyse and speculate as to where my own biases come from. It only comes out in such a structured form because that's just how I naturally think and make sense of things.

"Tactics" as in facecamping, tunnelling and slugging the last person as bait purely for a 4k. A so-called strategy that doesn't require any true measure of skill and forces the use of perks such as Decisive Strike and Borrowed Time, leading to what Killers are referring to as the Second Chance meta. And by that, I judge them as having zero skill and have to rely on underhanded tactics to get any form of result.

Am I 100% against underhanded tactics? No. I should clarify. I am not against playing dirty in order to boost your chances of succeeding. I myself will occasionally slug ONE survivor (only when there's 3 or 4 alive) in order to try and move someone off a generator. This is also usually when I'm playing as Pig and they have an RBT on which will waste more of their time. It's about controlling the flow of the game then. An example of the slugging that I judge is putting 3 people on the ground because you can't win multiple chases consistently, or leaving one of the remaining two as bait because accepting that someone got out because of the hatch doesn't count as basically a kill because seeing skulls is all that matters.

As for positive or higher-skill judgement from me is how someone predicts mind-games or skillful actions such as distant Huntress/Deathslinger shots, quality sneaks as stealth killers, perfectly timed shocks leading into a down.

One thing about your Prestige comment too is that yes, Bloodpoints are easy to get, but if you are that willing to devote time to levelling up ONE character, especially a Killer to get all 3 of the Bloody cosmetics, then you must either really like that character, or (especially in a Killer's case) then they are most likely your main character and if that's on something like a Nurse, then you've obviously devoted a lot of time to that character. It's not that you need to be a god to have Prestige gear, but if you have Prestige 3, then either you play the game way too much, you really like that character, or that's your best killer.

That's fair enough about the prestige. Come to think of it, I apply a different standard in that area to killers than I do to survivors. If a survivor is wearing prestige clothes, I tend to assume they're fairly new and that's just their favourite character. If a killer has prestige clothes, I take that as a sign that they know what they're doing. I'm not entirely sure why, exactly, since bloodpoints are harder to earn on survivor.

It might be partly to do with the fact that there are more survivor cosmetics available than killers (or at least it seems that way) so the "if they're using prestige it means they haven't bought anything better yet" theory doesn't hold as much weight. Perhaps part of it is also that survivors are interchangeable in a way that killers aren't, so survivor mains have more incentive to stick to a particular character because you only need to play one character to experience all survivor gameplay has to offer. Therefore, someone who has prestiged a survivor is likely to have played only that one survivor, whereas someone who has prestiged a killer has probably spent additional time playing other killers and so is more experienced overall. Plus, killer has a lower skill threshold than survivor - if someone has played 50 hours of killer and 50 hours of survivor, they're likely to be better at killer, so even if a survivor got to P3 in that time, they're more likely to still be rubbish at the game.

I mean, Peanits dropped a screenshot of the reworked Ironworks a tad early in a relevant questioning thread.

It's possible, but, obviously, not probable, the same could happen again. Especially if the answer is just "No".

Yeah, that's why I said "unless they were already planning it". In the case of the screenshot, I'm quite sure they decided in advance to tease that early, or at the very least discussed it before posting. I doubt Peanits just went rogue. Another example of a similar thing is when Pat went around to all threads about Bunny Feng and commented a rabbit gif in advance of the skin's official announcement. So it does happen, you're right, and if they're planning a teaser for the anniversary soon, they might drop a casual clue or two on the forums, but they almost certainly won't do it just because someone asked.

  • I find it really interesting that so many people have said that they expect players with prestige outfits to be somewhat skilled. I tend to assume the opposite, based on the fact that prestige is (a) easy to get, (b) therefore usually the first cosmetic that people get access to, and (c) not the favourite of most, meaning that if they have other cosmetics, they usually use those instead. So most of the people I see wearing prestige are newish players who want to show off that fact. Veterans typically don't feel the need to show off prestige skins because they've earned enough bloodpoints in their time to prestige everyone, so to them it's not that special anymore.

    No.

    No.

Prestiges only and it's generally specific "tactics" that clue me on their skill level.

No, Because I don't tunnel or camp.

They're both terrible "strategies/tactics" and the devs allowing 100% free reign on them just feels wrong, since they straight up ruin games.

What kind of tactics do you look at to decide someone's skill level?

    @BunnyTheHutt said:

    Answering the questions in order.

yes - If it's a leatherface I fully expect them too camp with the chainsaw, It's not from the memes that I think this, it's just a common thing with Leatherfaces I've noticed. Not all of them do it but a good portion do just camp with chainsaw.

yes - Anytime I see a P3 Claud or Nea I know they are just gonna hide in the edges of the map. For nea it's not guaranteed, but for Claud it's almost a guarantee.

yes and No - I don't own a lot of cosmetics but I'm in red ranks, so I never judge someone based on cosmetics. For who they are playing absolutely. There are survivor stereotypes that are self fulfilling prophecies most games so it's not uncommon for a Claud too be P3 and never leave the corner or nea's who are just douches with flashlight spam and teabagging.

No - I only tunnel someone if they have a key. Key's ruin the game for killers like Mori ruins it for survivor, so there isn't a reason too tunnel them otherwise. Worst case I will slug them but I wouldn't intentionally tunnel someone too death, it's not fun for them.

Hope this helps with your project.

It does, thank you! Are there any other survivors who you pre-judge based on who they're playing, or is it mostly just Claud and Nea?

  • @BattleCast said:

I think this is pretty obvious, but I expect all LF's to camp.

Nea's with bright clothing intimidate me as Killer because I have been ran around for a while by some of them. They also tend to be toxic.

I expect blendette's to be crouching behind a rock at the corner of the map 95% of the time. Blendies are not reliable teammates from my experience.

Quentin mains tend to be the nicest of all survivors, and make every game a gg. Not sure exactly why though.

If I see a baby dwight I can't bear to see them die by an evil spider monster. Something so cute and pure doesn't deserve to be killed and sacrificed.

How do you know if someone is a baby Dwight? Is it to do with their cosmetics, or the way they're playing, or do you treat all Dwights equally?

  • Be patient. The developers have expressed interest in implementing a feature like that in the past, but doing so takes time, especially in a game that wasn't built with crossplay in mind. It's not unlikely that we'll see it in the future, maybe even sooner than we think (although nothing has yet been officially confirmed).

Let's start with the classic camping Leatherface.

The following killers with P3 makes me think they are good: Trapper, Bingbong, Billy, Nurse. Basically the "classic" ones.

Ghostfaces are either tryhards or absolute memelords.

Players using legacy outfits usually gain some respect from me and I expect them to be good at the game.

    Blendettes are useless.

Nancys are the "megheads" for me.

Survivors with bright outfits are usually the toxic ones and will dc if you outplay them. Bonuspoints if they stay for the rest of the game to yell at you in the endgamechat.

    Jeffs are not toxic.

I'll admit I've never quite understood the Meghead thing. What kind of behaviour do you expect to see from them (or in this case, from Nancy players)?

    Regarding the meta bit.

I'm pretty sure OP was talking about balancing perks at high level play, what i think wouldn't be too bad but buffing really weak perks should be the first and most important step to shake up the meta.

The perk usage statistic was pointless anyway because it involved the statistics of players from every rank.Showing the statisitic of Red ranks would have been more helpful, but even then we would have to wait for the new rank system so we can, hopefully, really judge how a common loadout of a high level player looks like.

I didn't get that impression, since he talked a lot earlier in the post about balancing equally for players of all skill levels, but @DelsKibara feel free to clarify. Regardless though, I must admit I'm a little confused as to how that pertains to my comment, since neither my nor OP's discussion of meta perks even mentioned player skill levels. The meta has nothing to do with how many people are using something or what their skill level is, it's about what the community as a whole generally considers the strongest builds or characters. All I was saying is that there will still be a meta regardless of which perks receive nerfs or buffs, or who is most affected by those changes, so rebalancing the game with the goal of removing the meta altogether is a lost cause.

And perk usage statistics are important if someone is suggesting that perks be balanced on that basis (as OP seemed to be). It doesn't matter that those stats span across all ranks and regions - in fact, it's better that they do, since such changes would affect all players, not just those at high ranks, so all of their experiences are relevant to the balance decisions being made.

  • @Boss said:

I'll simply answer those questions in your 2nd paragraph.

    • No.
    • No.
    • Character no, cosmetics yes.
    • No.
    • Because then i'd have to make lots of exceptions every match, i want consistency.

The questions were mostly just examples to get the gears turning, but I appreciate the response all the same. Would you be able to elaborate on what sort of cosmetics influence your opinion of a player, and in what ways?

  • Strong - there's a reason it's meta, after all - but fine for the most part and more situational than most give it credit for.

  • Scott Jund mains Oni now, but he used to be a pretty impressive Huntress main. He even has a fairly comprehensive Huntress guide full of tips for players such as yourself trying to learn her for the first time. As others have already mentioned, I've also heard that Umbra is good.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQRDijaX5Io
  • Did you do as the error suggested, and verify the integrity of the game files?

  • Tiles I can't really comment on, I honestly don't pay enough attention to that sort of thing to be able to make informed judgements about the balance.

The ranks, as you identified yourself, are about to be changed, so talking about how unbalanced they are is pretty moot at this stage.

As for the perks, firstly I think it's a mistake to assume that (a) members of the dev team mentioning what perks or killers they like to use on the forums is anything more than an expression of a personal preference, not necessarily an attempt to encourage players to use those perks, and (b) that their goal is to have everyone switching up builds all the time in the first place.

There will always be a meta in a game like DBD - pretending that's not a certainty, or trying to eradicate it somehow, is a waste of time, and I'm pretty sure the devs know that. That doesn't mean they won't buff weaker perks - I believe they have a list already of weak/underused perks that they plan to do something about in the future - but at the same time, not all perks are going to be top-tier in terms of power or usage. Some perks, like Wake Up or Any Means Necessary, are designed for very niche applicability and that's not only okay, but as it should be.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the meta is different in different regions, so balancing perks according to what the meta is is, generally, a bad idea because those changes are global, whereas player attitudes are often local. For example, you mentioned Lithe in your post as an example of a perk that you don't see that often, but statistically Lithe is actually used more overall than DS, Borrowed Time or Adrenaline.

  • Who said that's what happened? The last official statement I saw said that AA was harmless and they didn't disable access to that file to prevent people from turning it off, but to prevent them from messing with other, less harmless settings in the same file.

  • Best place to put this would be in Bug Reports (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/bug-reports), so the people who need to see it can be made aware of the issue more easily.

  • I've heard that the devs are very cautious about buffing Brutal Strength because it's stackable. 30% increased speed might seem fine for the default version of the perk, but they also need to take into account how it interacts with things like Fire Up, or Wraith's Shadow Dance add-ons (for example), and make sure those combinations aren't too overwhelming.

Not that it couldn't happen, just that there is more reason than one might think to be careful about making such changes from the developer perspective.

  • @maxchienbinh said:

however, it takes an enormous time to stalk if i use that addon.

That's the challenge. You have to use either Judith's Tombstone or the Tombstone Piece to complete the achievement, which is why it's considered one of the hardest in the game.

  • The hitboxes aren't shaped around the character models - each character has a pill-shaped hitbox into which the character model fits, which is the same size across the board.

  • I'm pretty disappointed in some of the commenters here, to be honest. I thought the video was very interesting, and thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I was especially intrigued by the idea of reframing the player-dev relationship as "help us make the game we want to make" instead of "help us make the best version of this game", in order to highlight the notion that it is the developers' creative vision that the players are helping them realise, not the other way around.

  • Unbelievable. It is, after all, the current year.

  • No, although I think they also have reasons for keeping it the way it is. If everyone could choose their own avatar, they could upload a picture of literally anything, and that kind of thing is very difficult to moderate, especially with such a small mod team. Even the Trusted members, who were specifically selected, as the name suggests, for being trustworthy in terms of maintaining a positive atmosphere and upholding the forum rules, can't select our own profile pictures, so I don't expect they'll be enabling that option for anyone any time soon.

The other reason, I believe, is because restricting the option to mods and devs means that those users stand out a lot more when they comment on discussions, making it easier for members to find official information on the forums if they need to.

Right but I didn't ask why they suicided, I asked if it's a potential incentive worth applying. And how precisely is that unhealthy? Providing survival points for hang time? If a killer can get so many points for hooking a survivor for the first time and a survivor gets zero if unhooked by another, then it's quite easily more unhealthy than getting bloodpoints for being incapacitated.

A survivor does not get bloodpoints by getting healed when by others, which is what I was referring to, I'm not that clueless. Been playing this since 2017 and I know how these point scores go.

When survivors start to avoid letting you heal them because they want survival points, it's more unhealthy than granting them points for being healed. All of this is intended to make it easier to get 32K as survivor. As a killer main, 32K is far too easy to get. As survivor, it's near impossible, you have to be a jack of all trades and then some.

I agree with the 300 BP skill check thing, that would be nice. Although the devs are heavily neglecting the survival category. It's absurd a killer can get 8K in all categories and 6,600 in sacrifice without killing a single person, whereas a survivor often has to go out of their way to get max survival but a killer can just do their job.

I think perk-related bloodpoint scores are intriguing concept, DS and Headon granting survival points is great. I think the dead-hard thing is similar to an idea I had with a "Whiff" score in which you make the killer miss an attack at all and get points.

The reason why people kill themselves on hook is relevant because you need to understand that in order to incentivise against it. If people who killed themselves on hook cared about points, they wouldn't be killing themselves in the first place, they would be staying in the match to try to earn more BP. So it doesn't work as an incentive.

Furthermore, it makes no sense to give players points for doing literally nothing. As @Onyx_Blue said, at that point you may as well introduce a mechanic whereby players passively gain bloodpoints just for walking around. And it would promote divisiveness and resentment among the survivors - if you get points the longer you're on the hook, you'll want to stay on the hook as long as possible without being rescued, and might be upset with your teammates for unhooking you too soon. At that point, it's just completely antithetical to the spirit of playing survivor to begin with.

I agree that survivors could use some easier ways to get bloodpoints, but I don't think this is the way to do it.

  • I do, I really love them. I'm a sucker for cute, pointless souvenir stuff. I like to use the vial, lantern and whichever Tome charm I've most recently acquired (although I'll swap that out for the cube once I finish Rift III). I like their visual design, plus I don't think there's anything wrong with being proud of your achievements.

  • If you're on PC, click on your picture in the top-right corner, and then select "Edit Profile". Then on the right there should be an option to "Change My Picture" where you can choose a new one. After you've selected it, remember to scroll down to the bottom and click "Save Avatar".

On mobile, tap the profile icon in the bottom-right, then select "Edit Profile". There should be a "Change My Picture" option near the bottom of the screen. Tap that, select your picture, and when you're done, scroll down to the bottom and tap "Save Avatar".

What does respecting the boop mean to you? Do you let them escape the match, or just let them live until you find them again?

  • As before, thank you all so much for the responses. A couple of follow-up questions for some people:

    @KingFrost said:

    For other killers:

-Please don't camp me. I want to play the game too.

-Do your best not to tunnel me straight off the hook before end game. Not cool, bro.

-Please don't hit me while I'm on the hook either. I ain't dyin' any faster and will only make sure of it if you do.

    For myself:

-I won't camp. not even proxy camp. But I don't consider it camping if I see signs of a survivor in the area. (Scratchmarks, physically seeing them, hearing them...)

-If I have to tunnel, I'll leave you slugged. If your teammates don't come pick you up, or I go and hang them all before you get picked up, I'll try to find you, and let you wiggle free. (Yes, I've done this before)

-No Mither means you get to go free unless you're a complete jerk. I will hook you once. If your teammates don't save you, that's not my fault, cause I don't camp. But I generally let you go.

-If you boop the snoot, I'll let you go unless you were a completely toxic jerk. Or if I need my BBQ stack.

That's a very interesting outlook that you have on slugging. It sounds as if you slug survivors with not only the expectation but the hope that they will be rescued. If that's the case, under what circumstances do you feel the need to slug in the first place?

    @Thatbrownmonster said:

-don't quick switch last second in lobby

-don't ds when I am not tunneling you

-don't go into lockers to force a ds

    -don't tbag

-don't destroy my hex perks 20 seconds into the game

Do you follow those same rules when/if you play as survivor?

If two people suicide or dc, I farm. If I've dominated, last guy gets the hatch. You boop the snoot, you live. If you're toxic, I'm toxic.

How would you define acting toxic?

    @RareOmen said:

Unwritten rule for killers is apparently "Let survivors do gens, totems and escape"

Kidding. My "Code of Honor" if you will, is:

If 2 or more DC or Suicide on hook I give the last one hatch or an escape.

If I sense they're new survivors I ease up on the chases and hooks.

If you Spam fast vaults or lockers to get my attention, you're getting hooked with no chance of escape.

If you're toxic, you will get the same toxicity back x10

If you keep hitting me with head on, I will kill you mercilessly

If you DS me then Teabag and run, I will kill you mercilessly.

If you're Tapp or a baby Dweet, I may let you go depending on your gameplay.

What kind of gameplay would Tapp or Baby Dweet need to exhibit in order for you to let them go?

    @aknitus said:

    As a killer:

I will not camp. However, if a 50% gen is nearby the hook then I may proxy camp for obvious reasons. Kite me and get the other survivor to get the unhook. Simple as that.

I will not tunnel. I may down the survs and let them be, if they are blocking my way and ds-baiting me.

I will not spend more than 1 min and 15 secs on a chase. Getting looped is bad for killer business.

I will never take ebony mori. It is very unfair, toxic and does not help improve your game. I may take a yellow mori though, just to give myself the extra challenge of getting the last guy and stopping him from getting the hatch.

Dont bring object of obsession against me. I will switch to logic mode and go straight for you whenever you are near me. That includes tunneling too. Coz logic :)

Flashlights enrage me. Add teabags to that, and oh boy... you are dead, son. :P

I may let the last surv go, if the game was way too ez (like 5 gens undone) or newb teammates suicided / dc-ed because of saltiness.

You think juking helps you against me? Think again :)

    As a surv:

1 gen = 1 hook. Like always. That is the target set for an efficient survival gameplay. Killers dont have to abide by this at all, but it is what me and my frnds try to achieve in almost most of the games.

I will loop for as long as i can and if all other 3 survs are alive and i get hooked unfortunately, I will gladly give up my life so that they can escape rather than trying to save me through NOED.

Try to hit great skill checks. Never give up.

I will try my best to loop without using any / minimal pallets.

Kite the killer far away from others.

Use spinechill to get a headstart in chase

    etc.

Are your survivor rules for yourself alone, or do you expect the same from other survivors you play with (friends or strangers)?

  • @Uindangergurl said:

On both sides my unsaid rules evolve from the thought of it’s a Game that five individuals are playing to entertain each other and themselves. With this said:

as killer: same as prior. I don’t tunnel or camp. Also I do not particularly get frustrated with any perk. High rank killer might be more of a frustration but up to lvl five it’s relatively easy to get bp and rank up. May get heat for it but killing everyone as quick as possible, making it entertaining and promoting team work as well as getting as much bp as possible is what the game requires of the killer. Tunneling and camping is for individuals that have the four kills equals win equals fun critters.

for survivor- I only teabag to say hi or thank you to other survivors.

Don’t hide all match. Expect a turn on the killer. If everyone is trying and not potatoing and three players are double hooked and you haven’t been chased really...######### you need to step up. It’s your turn. It makes it a team effort and you’ve enjoyed your teammates run the killer six times while you do gens carefree. Its your turn.

Survivors that I know are good enough to know better that bring killer to gens or to players healing. I’ve only noticed much more recently since I now use aftercare with most builds..and then some b line it to me knowing they’ll lose the killer.

Looping around the hooked individual. You could be the best looper and wanna show off but gtfo and so it somewhere else.

If you don’t want to be healed under hook. Don’t run to where you want to be healed...it just delays the inevitable due to the scratch makes but we could have started healing 6 seconds ago. Walk #########, walk

Any survivor going into second phase On first hook without being severely camped is just as much your fault as it is the other two teammates. If this happens that player will be enraged honestly and should be.

Over all I don’t run DS, so I find BBQ and chili is the most toxic perk in the game and it is run by 90 percent of killers. It is too strong to have the bp component attached...the bp component is every killers excuse for using it. You may find that comment more survivor main’ish. No perk had such an effect on survivor gameplay as that perk.

Thanks for the response! Are those all rules that you would expect other survivors to follow, or just ones that you follow yourself?

My Survivor rules are largely self-imposed since I don't have any way to communicate them to others. It would be nice if other Survivors followed them, and the game would probably be in a better place community-wise, but I don't get my hopes up for it.

Hope this answers the question, since I know my explanations often make things even more confusing.

    Very much so, thank you!

  • Camping is sticking around near the hook, under any circumstances. Sometimes it's more justifiable than other times, such as if you know that there are other survivors nearby waiting to rescue. What you did was kind of borderline, but the important thing is that even if you were walking in circles around the hook, that's still okay. Memes aside, it is a perfectly valid tactic. Not always the most rewarding one, but valid nonetheless.

You're always going to run into people that accuse you of misbehaving just because your gameplay isn't convenient for them. Best to just ignore them and play however you want to.

  • Depends on the nature of the loss.

If I lost, but it wasn't a bad game, I'll say gg and move on. If the other side was particularly nice about it, I'll give them props as well.

If I lost and it wasn't enjoyable in the least, I don't call that a good game so I won't say so, I'll just move on without saying anything.

DS is the big one. If you use it properly then fine, but jumping into a locker or forcing the killer too grab you because you intentionally made a mistake is toxic IMO. Another one is a Sabo + No Mither team, It's completely unfair for the killer since he has no counterplay other then going too the basement every hook, which may not be possible. Object of Obsession in SWF is toxic IMO because you only need 1 person too have it too completely ruin your killer game. Mindgaming is impossible with one so you end up just tunneling that one person while the rest do gens, so you loose either way.

Hope this will clarify what I meant, sorry for the confusion.

No worries at all, thank you for taking the time to clarify 😊

  • First of all, thank you for all the comments - it's been a huge help. I've finally had time to go through them all, and I have some clarifying questions for some people. Some of these may sound rather pedantic, but I'm genuinely just trying to understand your ideas better.

    @Demogordon_Ramsay said:

    Killer:

    • BM begets BM. If you teabag, click your flashlight, point, et cetera, I'm going to single you out and make sure you have a boring game. You're obviously set out to ruin my fun, so it's only fair I return the favor.
    • I don't deliberately tunnel people if they were farmed or otherwise forced into a bad situation post-unhook, but if you were recently unhooked and stupidly deposit yourself onto the point of my blade, I'm going to down you again. I'd be asking to lose otherwise.
    • If you have No Mither, I let you pick yourself up at least once out of respect. Unless, of course, you have Dead Hard.
    • If you meme, I meme back, but don't mistake that for farming.

    Survivor:

    • If you play Bill or Nancy, I automatically assume you will be a hindrance to the team.
    • I never run Perks that give me a free second chance. I hate going against them as Killer, so I'd be a hypocrite to use them as Survivor. Plus, they're just not fun to use.
    • I must have Iron Will no matter what.
    • If you loop the Killer next to me while I'm hooked, you're an idiot and I wish we were on separate teams.
    • If you run Sweaty Butcher as Killer, I don't like you. I'm not gonna teabag or anything, but just... I don't like you.
    • If you use Scalped Topknot on Oni, I will report you for abusing an exploit because the simple fact that such a ridiculously overpowered addon exists is an error in game design as far as I'm concerned. (If you consider yourself an "Oni main" and you run this addon regularly, I don't consider you worthy of such a title.)
    • Similar to when I play Killer, BM begets BM. However, outside of that, I will never taunt as Survivor, with one exception: If you bring an Ebony and you fail to kill me, I will teabag furiously at the exit gates until I'm forced out, because you deserve it.

Which second chance perks specifically do you avoid as survivor? Why do you assume that Nancys and Bills in particular are likely to be a detriment to the team?

    @KingFrost said:

Rules I like Survivors to try to follow when I play killer:

-Don't teabag me at the exit gate if I struggled the whole game. It's probably because I'm playing a killer I've never played before at a higher rank. I gave you an easy game. No need to be a jerk about me trying to do a challenge, and having NO IDEA HOW TO AIM THOSE STUPID HATCHETS. OKAY? ITS NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS. Also, I may remember your name and bring a Mori just for you if I see you again. And that's when I'll be playing a killer I'm used to. With the best add-ons.

-If there's just you and one survivor left, and I've got a survivor hooked on their second hook state, if you save them I'll probably let you have the hatch. But if you ignore them -- let's just say I have a very specific skill set. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you

Rules I try to follow as survivor:

-I only bring an item into the match if I'm doing a challenge. Rarely I'll bring a med-kit if I'm feeling super altruistic and likely to get injured a bit.

-If gens are getting done fast, I won't work on them and will do totems instead.

-Unless NoED is active, or the killer has an insta-down, never leave a man behind.

-Wait for the killer to leave to unhook someone unless I have borrowed time OR it's obvious the killer has Devour Hope.

-Only teabag killers who camped and/or tunneled. Or in a 3 gen situation, where i'm trying to draw the killer's attention so my teammates can do a gen.

-Never throw a pallet if another survivor is behind you. Let them throw it instead.

-Don't throw the shack pallet unless the gens in that area are already done OR you can prevent a killer from getting a survivor into the basement by throwing it. (Did this one today, actually. Leatherface got a teammate down, the basement was in the shack. I waited at the pallet. Instead of going around, Leatherface came my way to get a hit, I threw the pallet, and we both got away. Good use of the shack pallet, since it bought us a lot of time)

-Heal before doing the generator, because the generator popping will notify the killer of our location.

You say that you like to do totems as survivor if the gens are going too fast. Is that a tactical move in case of NOED (since if gens are getting done fast, it's likely no one else has bothered with totems), or a kindness to the killer, or a combination of both?

You teabag killers who camped and tunnelled, but don't want survivors to teabag you if you had a bad game. What if a killer camped and/or tunnelled because they were struggling? Do you consider it acceptable as a killer for a survivor to teabag you if you camped or tunnelled them? (I'm not attacking or judging you, just trying to understand your point of view.)

    @BunnyTheHutt said:

My one unwritten rule is just don't be super toxic with perks. Killers already got it hard enough, and seeing 4 DS, 4 Adrenalin, teabagging, constant flashlight save attempts, etc really makes you not want too play killer anymore.

My second rule is if you gen rush you deserve NOED. Take the time too do bones or get the expose.

Third rule is if you have a key I'm gonna tunnel you. Keys and moris ruin the fun of the game and force people too loose because of an item, not because of skill.

For survivor, simply don't use Ebony Mori on first hook. Literally gets rid of any fun the survivor has and makes them depip from something out of their control.

Can you elaborate on what you mean about being toxic with perks? Are there particular perks that you will never use, or that you will only use in specific scenarios?

    @PigMainClaudette said:

Basically it comes down to treating others as equals until they prove otherwise.

I hate it when people flashlight me at a pallet, attempt to abuse DS (especially annoying considering my generosity and playstyle!) and teabag endlessly. I play Pig because I like her, not to meme.

I also never do these things to a killer, so I expect that they won't camp or tunnel me as a sign of respect.

The only rule I really break is "no slugging", but I only slug one person at a time in the mid-game unless they do something stupid like have 4 people swarm the same generator at the same time, yes that has happened and 2-3 of them ate dirt for a good 2 minutes. I'm actually somewhat tactical about it and I'll leave you on the ground if you have an RBT or got unhooked recently as to give you a chance and apply pressure to the rest of the team.

What would you define as "abusing" DS?

    @LALYTHIA said:

I just play DBD by the golden rule: "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

    Survivor:

    I don't teabag

    I don't clicky clicky

If I stomp a Killer, I don't GGEZ them in post game - I thank them for the match. I will stick up for a Killer if my teammates do.

If I stomp the killer, but I'm sure I did enough to PIP, I get "conveniently" caught and die so they get at least one sacrifice

I don't linger on the map in end-game unless I have an actual reason to be there

I don't use the DS locker tech, nor pair it with Head-on

    I don't use exhaustion perks

    Killer:

    I don't camp

    I don't tunnel

If a team is doing particularly bad, I will find something to do on the opposite side of the map to let them reset...even if there's nothing to actually do LOL

I challenge myself to hook everyone twice before I start death hooking people (although I like playing "no-kill killer" and pipping)

I dont use insta-down addons, perks, or moris

    I never slug to secure a 4k

I will slug to avoid quickly killing someone who isn't very good

Just general "don't be an #########" type stuff. I do my best to try and make everyone have a good time...unless you try and ruin my time. Then I am spicy. 😂

Do you ever use killers that have an insta-down built into their power? If so, do you use that power?

    @MadLordJack said:

The rules I follow are pretty simple. Mostly.

    Killer:

Play nice til someone does you a dirty. No tunelling unless object of tunnel does a scummy play (see below), no facecamping EVER.

If it's early game, play even nicer. Don't punish farms. Let them have a match.

Don't run: NOED, ebony/ivory Mori, tombstone piece.

Don't use Stridor on spirit. My soundcard and headphones don't let me take much advantage, but the survivors don't know that.

    No BM.

    Accept boops.

    Survivor:

Don't run infinites. Use the window to escape? Sure. Run it? No.

DS only when actually deserved (so rare I never run it). No locker DS, no 59-second DS, no immortality abuse.

    Never combo DS/Unbreakable.

Never use OoO, the killer cannot tell you are solo.

Never use a key. If I plunder a key, I hold on to it or hide it. If someone else uses a key, I sacrifice myself to make up for robbed points. Who tf cares, I'm playing survivor, I pip for breakfast and black pip in my sleep.

    Never spam noises.

Never BM when I am in a safe position. I will t-bag and give the pointer all day long after sandbagging myself. You're an arse if you do it after dropping a safe pallet on an m1 killer

Don't abuse snoot boops. If killer lets me boops, I am chill.

By "farmers", do you mean survivors who rescue teammates near you, or survivors who are trying to farm for bloodpoints?

If you don't use the Tombstone Piece, does that mean you also won't use Judith's Tombstone, or is that an exception for some reason?

What do you consider "accepting" a boop? Do you let the survivor escape, or do you only let them live until you see them again?

Do your survivor rules apply only to yourself as a survivor, or are those expectations that you have of the survivors when you play killer as well?

    @VolantConch1719 said:

    As Killer

    • Don't camp Survivors unless their hook is right along your patrol route, in which case your check ups will be much more frequent.
    • If a Survivor is unhooked, and you see the unhooker, go for them. If you see no one, everybody is fair game, including the unhooked.
    • If you have a mori, don't use it unless certain conditions are met: Have they been hooked twice? If so, they'll be dead anyway. Are there more than two gens left? If so, the game is still even, don't unbalance it. Did someone try and fail to flashlight blind you? If so, the blood is on their hands.
    • Don't run NOED. Seriously, don't.
    • Don't use Iridescent Head. It's broken and needs to be changed.

    As Survivor

    • Don't teabag the Killer. You're just asking for trouble.
    • Don't go clicky clicky with a flashlight unless trying to get another Survivor's attention (or respond to another click from a Survivor).
    • If Kindred shows me that the Killer doesn't leave for long or stands still and vanishes, I'm not coming to save you unless I have BT or it's right at the end of the match. Sit there and waste his time.
    • If the Killer is chasing you, and you know others are working on gens ahead of you, don't bring the Killer to them.
    • Don't be annoying in the exit gates, but stay until you know everyone is clear to leave. Basically, don't abandon your team.

Do your survivor rules apply equally to other survivors, or are they purely self-imposed?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1254361#Comment_1254361

Back in 2018 I use to play to just double hook everyone, then let everyone escape. Going easy on bad survivors does more harm then good, as it boosts them to a rank where they don't belong. Therefore they'll continue to be into put to matches where they are out of their depth, which will have a negative affect on their enjoyment. As well as impacting the enjoyment of their fellow survivors.

Code of Honour as a Survivor:

I do not BM (T -bagging, spamming my flashlight, pointing etc) unless the killer camps, tunnels, brings a mori, or has NOED. Although I'll sometimes chain blind if I make a flash light save.

    I avoid looping infinities

    I never use a key.

Despite being a Jake main, I do not participate in Sabbo builds.

I never bring a Haddonfield or a Ormund offering.

I always say good game after the game.

Code of Honour as a killer:

From the start of the game I'll try and play as fair as possible I don't camp or tunnel.

I do not bring a Mori unless the survivors as a key or I see a survivor who I know to be toxic post game.

Unless I'm playing Leatherface I don't use the perk NOED

Although if I go against a toxic SWF group or a sabbo squad, I'll finish the game by letting them bleed out. Giving them a chance to think about their behaviour/actions.

Do you avoid Haddonfield and Ormond offerings out of respect for the killer, or because you personally just don't like playing on those maps?

Yeah, I figured. It'd be a neat idea for a Practice Mode of sorts.

It sure would. At the very least, I'd like to have what @CheersTC suggested and be able to enter a custom game in single player to use as a practice arena.
