So over the past 2 months, I've gone from a 100% pure killer main to trying to learn survivor and...yeah.
Killer:
- BM survivors
- Frustrating map design and bullcrap loops
- SWFs
- Cheaters
- BM cheating SWFs exploiting bullcrap loops
- Dead Hard
Survivor:
- Weak BP rewards
- Annoying to rank up
- Getting slugged for half the game
- Getting camped
- Getting slugged for half the game, then camped. Then depipping for my troubles.
- Getting abandoned or sandbagged
I will say that playing survivor is definitely the role that makes me saltiest, and if it wasn't for the hefty 1m reward at the end of the month I probably wouldn't try so hard. Yes, I've looked for some people to SWF with, but I know how much I loathe going up against SWFs myself and the last time I tried, I was asked 'hours?' and when I replied with 'about 100 now' I was told 'lol touch grass' and blocked.
I wonder if the queue incentives are going to get 'pures' to cross the aisle and see what life is like on the other side - because I know that playing survivor has made me a nicer killer, and as a killer main, I know how annoying survivors can be sometimes.
Anyway, rant over. Yes, I've had a cursed night.
As a killer main, I agree that BP generally awarded to survivors seems way too low. I'd definitely support a change here.
-
I haven't heard one single "fix" for camping that won't break the game.
Why aren't we asking to fix the root cause if why killers camp? I.e. the severe Survivor bias this game promoted.
-
So basically, people want to buff solo Q, so it is the same as swf 😂😂. Honestly, if everyone was solo Q, and swf didn't exist, that would be a balanced game!
-
Survivor = Dead Hard
Killer = Territorial Imperative
-
Solo survivor is easy mode. You don't need decent teammates to loop the killer with endless pallets and windows.... and of course the 'ol 3rd Health State that is Dead Hard.
Sure if "nobody" does gens that's annoying, but even solo potatoes know how to gen rush, and they complete so quickly, it's hardly ever an issue.
-
@Canas said:
I know it's been said several times already (after all threads like this pop up on a daily basis) but I still think the devs haven't gotten the full message yet. A planned Dead Hard rework is nice and all but WHEN can we really expect it? 3 months down the road? Or even 6 months?
Why can't you disable this extremely problematic perk until your solution to the issue is ready? It's absurd how every single match features four instances of this perk being used, it's driving several killers insane. One survivor recently told me to "anticipate it". Yeah, I definitely can anticipate them using DH to extend a chase by another minute but that doesn't offer me any real counterplay nor solace.
The perk is the equivalent of a third health state, it's singlehandely dictating the meta. It needs to go. There aren't enough options for killers to apply exhaustion; Fearmonger is worthless if survivors already let go of the gen the moment they hear your terror radius and Blood Echo requires you to injure everyone beforehand.
Ever heard of the saying "death by a thousand papercuts"? This is what Dead Hard does to you, day after day; match after match. Wanna know the definition of insanity?
Amen

Depends. If you've got multiple of the same survivor using the same or similar skins it's probably easy to mix up who's who if you're trying to keep track.
No. If you aren't "keeping track", it cannot, in any definition be "tunneling".
-
Plus, surely "Accidental Tunneling" is an oxymoron.
-
@RDQ_TheRedFox said:
Basically, I find a lot of people tunneling, and while I think it is a dumb way to play, I do think that if you're going to, you need to know which one you're doing, including accidental, so here are my definitions.
Order Tunneling: The one I hear everyone claim to be what "tunneling" actually is. This one is when you hook the same person twice or three times in a row. This can technically be accidental since sometimes you just can't find anyone else and this person keeps showing up. I believe this is what Killers think when Survivors claim it.
Timed Tunneling: The one most often defended as "not tunneling" is Timed. This has nothing to do with hook order and has everything to do with how long until a player is downed and hooked again. This one can be accidental if Survivors look identical, but I still find it to be the MOST annoying. It is tunneling if you don't give someone time to breathe in between hooks. To not be doing this kind, a minimum of 30 seconds helps make it feel less like you're tunneling. I believe this is what Survivors are referring to when they usually claim it.
Forced Tunneling: This one Survivors cannot get mad at. Don't go looking for the Killer because you will end up getting tunneled if you keep poking them. I do not defend you if you try to get the Killer's attention. It's on you, and most Killers won't do it for the soul purpose of, "I almost have the strong one down, why should I whack the weak link?"
Accidental Tunneling: The last one is when you are doing any of the above, but you don't realise it. Typically it comes up when you have Survivors that look the same and when you can't find anyone else because they're all stealthing around the map instead of protecting the people they unhook.
There. Those are the definitions I could come up with. If you have any more, or wish to try and defend any on this short list (excluding Timed, because I know you don't think so if you're a Killer) feel free to.
Again, and respectfully, this is the problem. You havent defined tunnelling. You have just given 4 different variations on something, without defining what the original something is.
Not disagreeing with your variants, but it seems the only common thread across all 4 is that the killer downs someone they have previously downed. And it seems you are saying anytime that hapoens we can define it as tunneling. Thats wrong. And with a brush so broad, it gives Survivors carte blanche to complain at something that isn't complain worthy.

Yeah this is one aspect of slugging that gets overlooked.
When you slug well you want to be chaining downs, hits or interrupts that eventually let you get a hook or 4 downs. Outside of that you'll get short term pressure but if you can't turn it into objective progression, hook or kill, then its just sunk time for no real overall advantage.
I'd say its usually better to eat the DS than to slug and avoid it if your down isn't going to chain you into multiple hits/kills.
In answer to the OP though I don't think DS activation on self unhook is that big of a game influencer that it needs a specific change to remove it.
Thanks for the comments. Makes sense what you are saying.

@Aven_Fallen said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2960491#Comment_2960491
Why? When it comes to Map Pressure, it is the same as a Hook - two Survivors are unable to do Gens (the one on the ground and the one who needs to pick them up).
Mainly because in my experience the slugged survivor is rescued relatively quickly, and you haven't even had the benefit of a hook state. Back to square one and another gen down.
-
The problem is that is a term used for too broadly, and very much perception based.
I doubt we could even get consensus for a clear definition, so it's almost useless to discuss it.

Well if I had to buff him with his power now and not go into me wanting him remade completely, I want Nemesis to recover faster from his whip when in tier 3, his zombies detect further and move faster towards survivors who are infected and being infected should give you some sort of negative status effect. Any effect at random. Randomly you may become exhausted or blind or suffer from hem or maybe some impaired hearing or vision. Maybe increase vaccines by 1 or keep them the exact same.
I think those are fair changes. Would be great if they did that

Well I want to win so I can't play fair always. I have lost easy 4K:s sometimes because I wanted to hook everyone twice before killing anyone. So sometimes you just have to be evil and cheat.
Nah. Respectfully disagree. And again this is what I perceive to be a problem with the community entitlement. You shouldn't have to hook everyone twice before a kill to "play fair". And not doing so is not being evil or cheating.

This is literally what you said
“Probably impotent and easily bullied Wesker. Per all recent new killers. Gotta keep those survivors happy.”
how the ######### do we go from, all new killers are always made to be easily bullied to make survivors happy. To nemesis was ruined. Nemesis not being like RE3 has nothing to do with making another side happy?
Yes nemesis is nothing like RE3 he could have had his rocket launcher or his super speed but in gameplay he’s pretty god dam good if you know how to use his tentacle. Nemesis is not easy to bully he can easily down you. If you can bully nemesis then he sucks try going against a good nemesis.
And I stand by what I said.

No. Play the game as intended. Don't cheat and make sure you play fair. That is how you show respect to your opponent. This whole hatch debate seems to forget that. To assume you have to go out of your way to "be nice", or the implication that acts such as this is the only way to be nice is wrong. You get the 4k, fair play. You get 0k, fair play. Respect and move on.

Yeah, the inability to perceive hatch as anything other than pity is definitely a you problem, because that's probably not why it's being offered. Which, hey, you do you, but please don't project your insecurities over the community at large. Some of us actually enjoy a nod across the aisle from time to time.
And I'm too broke for charity, dude. I'm just incredulous that anyone's actually claiming giving hatch is BM.
As for the rest - I mean, I'm bringing up giving hatch because it's incredibly relevant at the moment? It's a feature that's about to be taken away and going "hey, I do this, I like doing this, I like having it done to me" is the clearest way I can think of to plead for it. If you don't care for hatch, that's totally fine. I really don't care or think the way a killer wraps up a trial reflects on their character unless it's, like, "I always drag the survivor to hatch to close it in their face, bring them to gate and yank them off it at the last second, and then bleed them out while nodding." People are allowed to play for keeps, nothing remotely wrong with that. Nobody's ever owed hatch or has the right to expect it. But it is nice to have the occasional friendly interaction at the end of a match, and your take was pretty damn accusatory about the whole thing, so of course I was going to react to it.
As an aside, I'm kind of curious whether you think dropping an item in front of the killer before you leave is a pity move as well? Because that's what I've come to understand is the clearest way to indicate respect to a killer. And I've always perceived that and hatch as the same message; "this was fun, I enjoyed playing against you, GG."
I think it best we choose to end this debate and agree we both have a different perspective on this ok.

people wanting to offer the last survivor the hatch for whatever reason is not a bad thing
On the other side, a survivor giving a killer a free kill at the end of the game is also not a bad thing
we as a collective player base do what we want so long as it isn’t breaking the rules, and showing empathy isn’t breaking the rules
Then people shouldn't expect everyone to do the same. Or assume that if you don't do it then somehow you are not showing empathy or respect. That's my issue.

Imagine calling giving the last survivor hatch after a hard-fought game and several pulse-pounding chases unsportsmanlike. Hatch is literally saying "this was a great game and I appreciated playing against you; you earned this."
I've seen, like, two survivors get mad at me for giving hatch versus well over a hundred thank-yous and ggs. If you have a complex about it, fine, but I'm pretty sure you don't speak for the average player here. If anything, the 'my opponent showing me mercy is unacceptable and condescending and I need to beat them myself' implies an ego issue on your end, not anyone else's.
Also, I never claimed to speak for the average player. I was giving my opinion. I said as much.
I dislike that now everyone shouts and "boasts" about giving the hatch out of pity, that everyone else is expected to. Or at least you are "not a nice person" if you chose not to. That is why I have an issue with it. The bragging and the expectation it sets. On the flip side I don't expect survivors to hand me a kill if they stomp on me (which happens a lot lol). I don't thank someone for showing me pity. Want to be nice to me... play the game as intended, within the rules, respectfully and fairly......and what will be will be. That's respect for your opponent! Or if you must.... give the hatch without feeling the need to broadcast it.
That is my opinion.

They've made it clear they do not want it to take no more than 80sec at base for a surv to finish a gen. The have resisted changing that for a good long while now. Heck one of the upcoming new perks takes some seconds off popping of a gen if the surv does a totem first.
Yeah, I have no doubt they won't touch gen speeds. No way.

Because you can be kind and show sportsmanship without giving someonethe hatch. And the problem is that people doing this a) creates expectations and fuels survivor entitlement, and b) is kind of condescending and disrespectful. Actually rather unsportsmanlike.

Oh no it definitely is still.
However, OP's title suggests that this current point in time is the most survivor sided it has ever been, inherently forcing the comparison to the older days of DBD when the game, objectively, more in the survivor's favour than it currently is.
That, I agree with.

People saying "because I want to carry someone or give them a hatch" is what is wrong with the player base.

Also deadhard at the top on surv side so I guess its getting nerfed with BBQ??
For a long time it has been obvious why the killer meta exists. Gen speeds. Its also a big reason (alongside looping ease) Why killers tunnel and camp. Increasing gen repair time is an easy, no brainer way to make the game more fun and engaging for everyone. And to shake up the current meta.

I'm surprised whenever I see people write they don't care about the aura reading part or they only use BBQ for the double bp. Like I use the perk for the aura reading and with the double BP as a bonus. It's always nice to know where to go after hooking someone.
Though, they did say there were gonna look at why these meta perks were being used this much and make some changes to the base game. I could easily see them making BBQ basekit, since one of their goals is to encourage killers to camp and tunnel less and BBQ is perfect at that.
Yeah. Any killer who wastes a perk slot just for BP cannot complain about the game being survivor sided lol.
