This must be the only multiplayer game where people want to do nothing but troll around and win at the same time, without having to actually try and that being somehow an acceptable position.
You either can have: A game where everyone tries to actually win OR a games where some people try to actually win and others just goofing around.
The effect of the later ( which is what dbd currently is ) is people complaining about: SWF, Tunneling, Camping, Dead Hard and so on.
Because for some reason people are not expected to try their hardest, if someone does not play on the same level of try-harding as they are, they are either: trolls or sweatlords.
You can get rid of this problem by accepting that people always try to play at that best, like most online games.
"But DbD is different!!!" No it is not, just because this is currently the culture around this game, doesn't mean it has to stay this way.
"Sweatlords"...... made me chuckle ๐

And this is why I'm not playing killer while its active. Last few times I played one killer exclusively for one week and this was literally every match.
Stomping noobs isn't fun. I had more fair games on average WITHOUT mmr.
You're lucky. Try being a lower rak killer getting matched with the nost awfully agregious red ranks every game. I've resorted to camping while the game ends in 3 minutes. Quite satisfying

What are they supposed to do? Match 7k players with other 7k players? You would be spending weeks in the lobby
No, but matching them with the exteme other end is ridiculous.
-
Serious question. Are we really saying rank has no correlation to skill?
I see that comment a lot and it just does not ring true in my experience. By the end of a match, before the final screen, I know damn well what rank the players in that game were.
Yes maybe some small exceptions but overall, rank does equal skill IMO, and my experience.

I had one game with 3 rank 20 survs(Two didn't have any perks) and a rank 19, the very next game I played against 3 rank 1s and a rank 2...
So why, when it is "learning" doesn't it at least put you woth players around your own rank until it can determine if this is your level or not? What I'm seeing is constant rank mismatches, which are also actual mismatches too.
-
I've played 25 matches as killer (rank 13) and have had all or at least 2 red ranks in all but 1 game (which was 1 red and 2 purples).
One of these was on a killer I'd never used before!
Hence why I am now having fun camping and tunnelling. These red ranks rwally hate getting that from a rank 13 (soon to be 20 probably)๐

Easy solution to this. Time for "Mr Camping-Tunnel-fest".

I didnโt mean for it to come across that way. Iโm just genuinely exasperated as to why someone would use Tinkerer on Legion. Not having any control over when Undetectable activates leaves the player open to it happening mid Frenzy, which I perceive as being bad.
Fair enough. I tend to avoid Legion. I've never found a build to make him work. I actually agree, reading your reply, as to why this is not a good idea.

Or any perk that gives Undetectable?!?!
Was just up against a Legion running Discordance, Tinkerer, Ruin, Undying. Poor Legion, Ruin & Undying went within 40 seconds. Discordance was pretty easy to figure out, and then it became obvious they were also running Tinkerer.
Why? Do people have brains?!
How annoying would it be for Tinkerer to activate mid Feral Frenzy! Great, now youโve lost all your Killer Instinct trackers. Smart move.
How about you dial down on the elitism, and respect the player. They may not be so experienced, or could be trying something new.
Advice and help is good. Attitude of "do people have brains"...... makes your avatar incredibly appropriate for you.
-
"Toxic behaviour" has and always will be based on motivation. If you are first and foremost trying to ruin someone else's game. You could argue.
But if for example you are camping because you are using a strategy to bait and down survivors. Or tunneling to get a strong player out..... you may not like it but it ain't toxic.
And you know what.... either way you move onto the next game, pull your big pants up and move on. End of.

I don't think anyone has said that unless I've missed it. What I call toxic is the killer repeatedly smacking the survivor on hook, camping with Iri Head (or face camping as LF), slugging and leaving the survivor to bleed out, etc. There really isn't a reason to camp at the beginning of the game (a smart team will just do gens) unless survivors are looping near the hooked person.
Edit: I'm talking about camping near the beginning of the game. I don't care if killer camps someone that is almost dead or at the end of the game.
Yep, the absolutely did.
Exact words "they play him because they know they can get 3/4 kills every game especially with builds that make it even harder to play against. Those people are toxic".
Same person also said if you care more about winning than having fun that automatically makes you toxic.
Same Bull unfortunately. Toxic play used an excuse when someone loses fair and square. It's a game people. There are winners and losets.

The amount of killers I have been facing recently that just camp and tunnel and slug for 4k's without any remorse is disturbing to me. If you try to ask them why they tell you various things like: You just need to play better. Should I just let you live? It's my job to kill you. I don't care I won.
The win mentality some people have in this asymmetrical PvP game is really bad.
You can not kill any survivors and still "Win", survivors can escape and still "Lose". If you 4k and get a bad score you lost. If you escape and get a bad score you lost. If you didn't have fun you ultimately lost. How is absolutely destroying 4 solo queue survivors who are not that good fun for you? Did you get bullied by a really good SWF now you are taking it out on average survivors?
I have many hours in this game going back to 2017, I am just over 4000 hours of playtime. I main Amanda Young when I play killer. I know what it's like to get bullied as a killer. It's definitely not fun. I however don't turn around and start playing like a sweat lord who has vowed to get vengeance on every survivor like they are the Russian mob who just killed my dog and stole my car.
On Amanda I run A nurses calling, Brutal Strength, Enduring and Monitor and Abuse. I never try to slow the game down, I only slug occasionally when I am actually getting bullied. I NEVER tunnel, I make a very distinct point to NEVER tunnel. When a survivor gets hooked I make note of who I hook and how many times I have hooked them. I ALWAYS let survivors get unhooked, I never chase them off the hook. I go for 2 hooks on each survivor, and then some downs before I let every survivor go. I always score 21-25k points. I don't always kill all the survivors and "Win" But I always get legitimate GG's and +rep from survivors. I even meet people I am happy to see again or vice versa.
This is a challenging way to play, you don't always succeed. It's EASY to camp and tunnel. It's EASY to slug for the 4k. It's EASY to play like a dick. Ultimately the killer CONTROLS the pace of the game. As a killer you are playing with 4 other PEOPLE. Ultimately at the end of the day it's about having FUN not winning. Is it fun for you to prevent 4 other people from having fun?
Thoughts? Opinions? Personal Anecdotes? Lets hear some juicy rants from both sides please.
"It's about having fun not winning"
To many people winning is fun, and winning easy is fun to some. Or more fun than getting teabagged in the exit gate ๐๐.
It's comendable that you go out of your way to help survivors, it really is. But I don't think anyone who doesn't do everything you do is necessarily a dick. And nor do I think everyone should feel they have to play like that.

Only if you get baited into trying to hit them just before they activate. Most I come across panic and hit the button to extend the chase before I down them by what? 2 seconds? Therefore I don't see it as a big issue.

It's the never ending cycle of nerf this or that for both sides, some are less noticable as something else is talked about more. Once a change is made they move on to the next thing.
For survivor it was DS over DH. After the DS change DH took its place for top spot.
The same happened with Freddy and Spirit. There were more Freddy posts until the announced changed but Spirit was always posted about.
One side will never be happy until they can happily stomp the other with no effort. One thing gets nerfed and something else becomes the target of the week.
-
As a killer main I've never seen dead hard as a big issue. More often I see survivors DH into a wall, or waste it elsewhere.
The few times I see them use it to get to a window or pallet I kinda respect that as a "well played". Annoying for few, but still.

Where did I said survivors will be immune to getting hit?
They dont deserve a free escape either but neither to be facecamped.
When you said the killer should be forced to leave the area once the survivor is hooked.
Any survivor who waits around the hook is therefore immune (as the killer is magically forced to leave the area), and the person on the hook gets a free rescue.
Voila.

When you said the killer is forced to leave area, that's where. Survivors following the killer and waiting near the hook can't get hit because you want to force the killer to leave the immediate area.
Therefore they are immune, and the hooked survivor gets a free rescue. Voila.
-
I would argue your criteria for a "win" is too narrow.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
That happened to me as well, people keep saying,oh red rank killers dont do stuff like this, killers are not punished enough for it.Survivor should get extra bps while struggling on hook when killers are facecamping at least.
There should be a change so killers wont facecamp anymore,a mechanic where the entity forces the killer to leave the hook and look for other survivors.
Out of curiosity, and in your proposal, how would you deal with survivors following the killer and all waiting near the hook? Which they absolutely would do, as they would be immune to getting hit. If somehow the killer is forced to magically exit the immediate area, are you suggesting survivors essentially deserve a free escape?
-
@Kebek said:
That's why killers tunnel the weak links and not good loopers. Tunneling a good looper almost ensures you lose the game and you still might not even get them as long as their teammates help him out.
Yep. It's a legitimate strategy that I would guess works more times than it doesn't.

Also Killers: *Stacks 4x Slowdown on Nurse, or 3x slowdown + Stridor on spirit, and faces exclusively solo teams who don't stand a chance only to do nothing but call them awful*
Wow it's almost like you're mot the only one who knows how to generalise

@Moundshroud said:
I've seen enough people complaining about Tunneling and Camping, that wasn't, to put little faith by such threads. However, I'm going to point a few things out, play the Devil's Advocate here.
- Survivors appear to want guaranteed safe unhooks, and nothing short will please them. Let's tell the truth an shame the devil, what you want is for there to be no risk of the Killer hitting the would-be rescuer and thus no reason for someone not to come get you. This leads us to the next point.
- Survivors want it guaranteed that their safety after being unhooked is secure, i.e. the Killer must not go after them immediately. Apparently the idea is someone else must be hooked first, regardless of what the recently saved Survivors chooses to do. Thus, when I find that same Survivor working on a Generator, I must (for some reason) go find someone else or I'm Tunneling trash. :) There are no exceptions, if the same guy gets gone after, the Killer is trash.
- Point one above is silly because you earn additional Blood Points and Emblem advancement for rescues. Why should you get rewarded for something that isn't dangerous. If the DEV were to "fix" things, as some of you insist on calling your desired changes, all Blood Points and bonus for going to rescue someone should be removed. After all, if you have it your way, there is no real risk. Why should you be rewarded beyond the value of having another Survivor helping you on Generators?
- Point two above is even sillier. You have teammates whose job it is to protect you from Tunneling. I'm not going to go into the LONG list of things they (and you) can do to combat the tactic, but it suffices to say it is silly for the Killer (whose role is built right into his/her name) is expected to protect you. If we were to "fix" things as you suggest, the unhooked Survivor would have to be rendered totally useless for whatever agreed upon time is appropriate. You can't work objectives, heal, etc. You shouldn't have collision or be able to open gates. You are a "ghost" effectively if the Killer can't affect you, then you should have ZERO ability to affect the match. Perhaps once you should vanish off the map and be unable to see what is going on until you "return." Does this sound silly? Why? It would simply hold you to the same rules you want to apply to the Killer.
- Killers aren't Bots. They are Players and they want the same agency as those playing Survivor. Removing some of the few choices they make will not help the game, but rather aggravate a growing problem.
- The DEV understand risk and reward. Why do you think they give both an audible and visual cue when someone gets unhooked. They do this so the Killer can make the BP and Emblem advancement earned by virtue of risk. The Killer might not respond to this Dinner Bell, but the option must be there. I am pointing the Dinner Bell out because it underscores that Camping and Tunneling are not accidental nor unintended consequences, but rather the chances and gambles Players on both sides take in playing the game. That is also who so many Killers, Perks, and Add-on(s) seem DESIGNED for ambush tactics. Variety is the spice of life and they do not want the game reduced to a ritualized looping dance anymore than they would want it reduced to ONLY Tunneling and Camping.
- Maps play a part too, in that some Killers who can't get around fast must make realistic choices about what they can and cannot do. A Spirit doesn't care about a big map, but a Myers does. How realistic is it for you to expect a Myers to promise you three hooks and never going after the same person twice (regardless of what the Survivor is doing)? Different Killers interact with different maps as the situation demands.
- SWF is a thing. It is always the elephant in the room. I see a lot of the SAME names in this thread moaning and groaning about Tunneling and Camping but I never see you talking about SWF and its 5th Perk (Comms). Why is that? You do realize that some Killers choose to Camp and Tunnel, or rather are forced to do so, because of SWF tactics right? The single most effective counter play to the 5th Perk (Comms) is to make the intelligence it provides moot. When you aren't moving around much it is harder for different people to get eyes on you. When they can't coordinate their movements and baiting you around, that aspect of their organization is gone. In addition, taking a 4v1 using Comms down to a 3v1 as rapidly as possible is often the only way to level the playing field. Pretending otherwise is being dishonest. When I see you being serious about mitigating the effect of SWF on the game, perhaps I'll take these threads as something other than hypocritical.
- There are rules, they are known. The tactics you are complaining about are legal and valid. Thus all this noise is really just an attempt to shame and grief Players, and affect the match from outside the match. What does that say about you?
- Every attempt, and I do mean EVERY SINGLE ONE, in the past has been hideously abused by Survivors. It was so bad that the DEV more or less gave up on it. Think about what that means in application; there are FOUR Survivors and thus the temptation to abuse and exploit any restraint placed on the Killer is 4x as likely. When the Killer Tunnels or Camps it is still entirely in the hands of Survivors as to how they will handle it. That is a key difference. Are there ways to change the game to resolve Tunneling and Camping which are equitable? Yes, but the game won't even remotely resemble what it is now. You would kill the Goose that laid the golden egg. You would throw the baby out with the bathwater. Get over it.
Amen... That's all. Great post ๐
