When I read the Update hopping into a locker was literally the first thing that came to my mind.

How did the Devs not think of that?

The same thing happened with Twins and Victor.

  • Hangman's just doesn't have a niche and making it a scourge hook without making it somewhat useful for a scourge build just means it'll never be used.

Hangman's has never really been a good perk, but for a while it had a niche to repair destroyed hooks from sacrificed survivors which they could have brought back with the scourge change.

The other thing, they could make it so scourge hooks take longer to sabo as well so it actually functions as a counter to sabo plays on your scourge hooks.

The fact is, it doesn't matter if you see the sabo survivor at your scourge hook. Even if you change to go to a different hook avoiding the sabo play, you were still forced to not hook on the scourge hook losing out on other scourge perks.

I guarantee BHVR never intended SM to be able to hold a 3 gen for hour long matches that survivors pretty much have to DC to escape from so they can just take the short penalty and move on to a normal match.

Skull Merchant being able to hold a 3 gen is not a bug. You don't want to open a can of worms where BHVR starts killswitching things that are not bugged just because people whined hard enough for them to do so.

  • Skull Merchant is working as intended and individuals using her to grief by intentionally not killing anyone to force the game to keep going are not a valid reason to killswitch. Not like it's unique to skull merchant to grief this way.

I agree with you. I really didnt think about that but it is true. If they did killswitch a killer who isn't bugged/broken it would create a precedent that if enough ppl whine loud enough about something they can get it removed from the game for a long time till that thing is reworked. Honestly, I love to know the numbers behind SM, her pickrate, and what % of matches on a daily basis ppl even go against SM. I bet it's not as high as a lot of these ppl want you to believe. I also like to see match lengths.

Also I bet the amount of games that actually get close to the 1 hour mark are very small too

Man the spiteful replies in this thread really unveils players for who they are.

You don’t need to apologise for having fun with a new killer even one that people may not like.

SM will probably get some changes to lessen the drag effect her 3 gen potential has but until that happens play her as you like unapologetically.

This is sadly the state of the DBD community.

Play something someone doesn't like, you are literally the worst person in the world to them. Everyone feels entitled for the game to cater to their desires and everyone else just has to deal with it.

They did the same to Legion for a long time even after they removed the ability to moonwalk down someone with deep wounds, fixed the issues with stacking Filthy and Nasty blade, turbo nerfed and then reworked Frank's Mixtape and Stab Wound Study.

People DC'd on the Twins a ton as well, there was literally the multiple years of hostage Doc and the Forever Freddy days of his original power which caused a ton of DCs. It seems we've been playing this game the same length of time so you would have had to have seen this or at least been aware of this.

The response to Skull Merchant is extremely skewed because the level of baseline hate for her is so much higher than any other killer. Hate she doesn't really deserve considering where it usually stems from has nothing to do with what she's capable of in game and everything to do with people getting hyped up on leaks for Predator or generally being super snobbish about what does and doesn't belong in horror. So a ridiculous level of hatred paired with a generally very weak power that has one grossly over performant strat at the expense of truly being good at anything else means players are going to respond negatively in a seemingly outsized manner.

Most of the folks on this forum that call for her to be killswitched or deleted are also the same ones who were cranking out threads talking about how Skull Merchant doesn't even belong in DBD to begin with.

The other thing is I've had games against other killers that have gone for half hour and my own experience I have yet to have a single game end due to server timeout.

A lot of people are certainly focusing on a single aspect she can do and acting like it's so prevalent and a major issue when it probably accounts for a very small % of games played. If nearly every game against Skull Merchant was hitting server timeout, the devs would most certainly have put out a hotfix to nerf her.

  • Being able to unhook yourself is a huge blow to the killer's pressure and can completely turn a game around when used right.

It's balanced by requiring you to safely unhook someone else first, otherwise everyone would run it.

Calling for her to be killswitched till she gets reworked may make sense from a balance perspective but not from a business perspective. BHVR would either have to compensate players who spent money on her or put her remake as a priority. Given how their schedule is, prioritizing her remake would push other profitable projects down the line like cosmetics or new chapters which once again makes no sense from a business perspective.

This reminds me of the argument people had when Decisive Strike got reworked and people were demanding refunds because the perk got changed. Same thing happened with Freddy's complete rework. I'm pretty sure there was a statement about it that refunds wouldn't be granted. Granted I get it if the killer is killswitched for months but to be honest there's been plenty of stuff killswitched for a long duration of time. The only thing that was disabled for a lengthy period to my knowledge was Jonathan Byers from Stranger Things and that was before killswitch - can't recall if people got compensated somehow but I thought they did.

To be quite honest - I actually agree with people suggesting the killer needs to be killswitched. Genuinely one of the worst designed things I've ever seen added to this game and I've played since 2016. I'm still thinking of hatch standoffs, pallet and window vacuums and really poorly designed perks when I compare SM to old DBD. I also don't believe people are overreacting. Skull Merchant is the only killer I've consistently seen people either DC or walk up to the killer and point to a hook so they can go next. The majority of people who value their time would rather suicide on hook against SM.

The killswitch isn't for disabling things that some people don't like.

It's for turning off things that are not working as intended in a way that negatively impacts the game.

Skull Merchant is working as intended. Not to mention most things that do get killswitch are fixed a week or two later, compared to waiting up to a year for Skull Merchant to receive significant changes.

  • The amount of changes don't really matter imo. Quality is more important.

However the one thing that really baffles me is Hangman's Trick. Hangman's Trick is getting a 2m buff from the ptb. Doesn't really change the fact the perk is still worse, but the fact that the devs took long enough to decide that the best thing they could do with Hangman's is a 2m buff that they missed the window to put it on tomorrow's patch is just weird. The ptb was 3 weeks ago.

  • Ultimately, there's not much value in doing anything other than forcing out an early kill when possible.

There are no official tournaments. Tell me where I can find the best players if not there. In solo queue?

Experience a new side of Dead by Daylight with monthly Community Cups, an official way for fans to connect and square off in The Fog. Registration is open now!

It's very clear that you simply don't pay attention to things that BHVR actually announces and just want them to play favorites with 4 players you like.

  • @mikewelk said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491494#Comment_3491494

People keep talking about Skull Merchant because they are desperate for changes. Very simple to comprehend. They are the best since they won the most tournaments. Watch their highlights if you care enough and then come back here and call them specific.

You're talking about unofficial tournaments that have their own rules. This does nothing to show they are the best players.

And the devs have already stated they plan to make adjustments to skull merchant. There's no need for them to state it again, because 4 players you like won a game against her.

  • @mikewelk said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491377#Comment_3491377

Where did you pull that conclusion from? Each reply of yours surprises me even more than the previous one. Also, those four specific players are the best, no need for the word specific.

They made a statement and then let us deal with her for another month whilst the Skull Merchant mains get inspired from this event and she gets more regularly played because it's an easy win.

Whether or not they are truly the best players, there's no leaderboard or such to truly determine such. They are 4 specific players that you want BHVR to recognize by commenting on a game that has nothing new to discuss.

Also the event is already over. People love to keep talking about Skull Merchant and then wonder why people are playing Skull Merchant.

  • Oh no, a survivor in your killer game is running No Mither. How will you ever recover.

  • @mikewelk said:

You literally know NOTHING about what happened apart from what I said. If you want to go against Skull Merchants that play like that please be my guest. Take them all for yourself.

You want BVHR to make a statement over 1 game, because it involved 4 specific players. That's just ridiculous.

Not to mention it completely ignores the fact that BHVR already made a statement on skull merchant and 3 gen during the anniversary stream.

Like I really don't know what you want, because it just sounds like you want BHVR to play favorites.

  • @mikewelk said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491361#Comment_3491361

They didn't lose, they got a four person escape. Don't reply to issues if you're unaware of the context surrounding it.

BHVR needs to make a statement because if the killer was slightly more experienced, they would've lost. This team can win against any killer but they struggle because of a terribly designed killer. Their three gen potential is simply unfair and miserable to face.

Also, who calls DBD a party game? 🤣

So 4 people escaped and you want BHVR to make a big statement about it? There's nothing to make a statement on.

  • @mikewelk said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491348#Comment_3491348

That the BEST (huge emphasis on it) team (scary coordinated SWF killer mains tend to complain about) STRUGGLED WINNING (after winning lots of tournaments) against a INEXPERIENCED (very big emphasis on it) Skull Merchant holding the game HOSTAGE with their DESIGNATED THREE GEN.

If the best team in the world barely got an escape from an INEXPERIENCED Skull Merchant main, think about their effect on solo queue.

Best team based on what? There's official leaderboard to show that these 4 survivors are the best in the entire game. Also even if they are proveable the best, why does BHVR need to make a statement over them losing a game?

For a game that everyone keeps claiming to be a party game, you guys care so much about unofficial competitive play.

  • @mikewelk said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491180#Comment_3491180

I'm talking about acknowledging that a Skull Merchant held the best team hostage for fifty minutes. Just replying to the threads and saying an update for her will come asap or saying they are aware she's that broken. They addressed Skull Merchant but not the recent event associated with her.

What is there to address? People do eventually lose games.

  • If you find spirit bland to play, then just don't play her. She doesn't need any basekit buffs

  • We don't need to turn spirit into a way easier nurse.

  • It's even worse on multi-story maps where you just get locked out of your power because the hooked survivor is above/below you.

Personally I just hate arbitrary power lockouts. It would be better if recently unhooked survivors got immunity to crows similiar to Pinhead and unhooked survivors having immunity to chains rather than prevent the killer from using the power around hook, because Artist especially has valid reasons to use her global range power immediately after hook.

  • There should never be an exception to the DC penalty. Doesn't matter how "justified" you feel about it.

  • If you see killers dodging your lobby, you can just leave and requeue if you are concerned about matchmaking issues.

  • Mouse has an advantage over keyboard when it comes to precision. For killers with a level of precision with their power, being on pc certainly helps.

  • @txcrnr said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3487054#Comment_3487054

Ok, so… why are killers not punished for lobby dodging? Why can killers still force close task at loading screen to avoid a map offering they don’t like? Seems pretty one sided. And doesn’t having DC penalties just mean they’ll AFK or let go on hook?

Survivors can leave lobby and quit on loading screen.

The general game experience would be better if stuff that was unfun was gone from the game

Considering that I've seen complaints about every aspect of the game being unfun, that's not really something you can do.

Simply put, if you are finding yourself consistently not enjoying DBD then go play something else. No reason to stick around and rage quit every game that doesn't go perfectly.

  • Slugging is already the riskiest strategy killers can do and already has plenty of counterplay naturally.

  • @Sharby said:

Why should the other four people who did not consent have to suffer through an impossible game?

Also, my suggestion very clearly states a time-condition to prevent unnecessary false alarms due to ping-spikes.

If you're causing everyone in the match to have 150+ ms for more than a minute the game should objectively be rendered invalid.

And sometimes the game matches you with people where you have poor connection. The person with the bad connection is not always intentionally doing so.

So again, you just want to punish people for things they don't necessarily control.

  • That is a valid reason. You not liking the reason doesn't invalidate it.

Besides companies have always had the right to ban individuals. This isn't a new thing that BHVR is doing that is going to cause the law to get levied against them.

  • @Sharby said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3488387#Comment_3488387

None of my suggestions require intent to be proven, it aborts a game that's ruined already.

So you just want to punish people for things that could be out of their own control.

  • The penalty should be much higher than it currently is.

  • @nars said:

    This is the stupidest take.

What then? What playstyle or strategy do you want encouraged? So far all im seeing is endless complaining about literally anything the killer can do on these forums.

Things people want killers to not be able to do:

    • 3 gen
    • Camp
    • Tunnel
    • Stack slowdown

And now hit and run???? Just absurd. What, is the game only ever healthy if every match is 2 hooking everyone before killing? Because so far thats all thats encouraged! Devs confirmed their looking into 3 genning. Devs are removing camping. Devs added basekit BT and are continuing to work with tunneling. Devs recently obliterated all but 1 regression perk, leaving just 2 slowdown perks universally viable.

And you want hit and run nerfed now too? How would that even work? Accelerate altruistic healing? Unnerf CoH and/or med kits? Completely rework killers who encourage hit and run? Plenty of players really enjoy playing hit and run. Twins needs it just to FUNCTION.

Hit and run does encourage chase... they still need to actually down you. Dont be out in the open, not a hard concept.

The end goal for survivors is to have killers be bots who find a survivor chase them for a few minutes eating every pallet stun so they can "earn" their 4 man escape every game.

Killers shouldn't be able to think strategy and do anything more than mindlessly chase every survivors.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

I don’t know why it starts at 1 minute now. It’s basically zero deterrent since by the time you get back to the lobby your time is nearly up.

The first one should go back to 5 minutes the way it used to be and quickly ramp up from there.

It confuses me why it was changed, because 5 minute is still short enough to deal with most interuptions.

Personally I would start at 15 minutes. Even if you d/c because of an internet hiccup, 15 minutes gives you time to make sure your connection is stable before queueing back up again. I had a night before d/c penalties were enabled where internet kept going down and back up like every 10-15 minutes while trying to playing. I should have just quitted, but because I could queue up immediately when the internet came back a 1 minute later I kept trying.

  • @Mockingjay_S451 said:

I think the point is that you don’t have to be a pro, you just need to practice with him. He hasn’t even been out long enough to have put in a good amount of hours into.

And no, EMPs don’t need nerfed AGAIN. At this rate killers will just say get rid of them altogether so they can just teleport directly on to a survivor’s back.

It's been a month since his release (June 13th 2023). If people need over a month to get good with the killer, then that killer requires being a pro.

  • I don't think Singularity is really that strong either or at least strong in a way that is worth using over others.

Singularity can basically ignore hold w, but so can killers like Blight, Wraith, and Oni who have speed powers and don't require as much setup as Singularity.

You also have a small period of faster vaulting, pallet breaking, and spirit fury + enduring, but the window is so short it can often not matter with the distance survivors start from you after the teleport.

At least if Singularity was very strong if mastered, he would just be similiar to nurse who I see often enough because there is a pay off to learning her. Then you add on the frustrations as playing him as you listed and you get a killer that is not attractive to play as.

  • The obsession does not change if the obsession d/cs. The only way to change the obsession is via perks that do so.

  • @Rovend said:

This is a wrong way of thinking.

"To be able to play the game" for the short amount of time you can last while being hard tunneled does not make this any balanced, or fair, or fun, or a valid strat that shouldnt have some form of counter measure.

Considering how random the MMR can be in dbd, i wouldnt consider being outplayed because the killer hard tunneled a 100h dwight in 3 min and sent him to the lobby before he could touch a gen.

And even disregarding thr MMR issue, this is in the same way as telling "well, i totally outplayed the killer today because i got friend 1, 2 and 3 to use 4 BNP with me on a single gen and finish it in 5 sec. Oh, but the killer could totally move and play in those 5 seconds it took us to do a gen so this is totally part of the game and shouldnt be addressed in any way. If losing 5 gens in 3 min bothers you so much, maybe dbd... "

I did not comment on it being balanced or fair. I simply stated that being tunneled out of the game is still playing the game. If find being eliminated from a match is equal to not playing, then DBD isn't the game for you. DBD is an elimination game.

  • While I personally would like to see the game have more to it than just hold a button on a gen, I don't think removing gens completely is the way. DBD found something that worked and there's not much reason to change what is currently working.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3487841#Comment_3487841

Even my cat can out survivor with tunnelling.

You are acting like it's so hard. It's not. Tunnelling was already problem and devs buffed it for no reason. Anyone can out survivors with tunnelling, it's not big deal. It just shows how busted it is.

It's very clear you just want your hand held considering you're comparing your own skill level in the game to a cat.

  • That is the answer. The killer isn't making you unable to play the game by tunneling you out. The chases you had where in fact part of the game. If you are dying so quickly then it means the killer was outplaying you.

This is just simply part of the game that will always exist as long as the game is one where survivors can be eliminated. If being eliminated bothers you so much then maybe DBD isn't the pvp game for you.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

The chase where you have no chance, sure. You can't even make good bp. Sure. Such a gameplay.

Hopefully BHVR nerf this after camping. So killers can actually play game instead of destroying fun for other side.

You being bad at running the killer is not the fault of the game.

  • @IHSGames said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3486316#Comment_3486316

Youre seeing it very black and white and nothing in life is of those 2 colors alone. Tunnelling is a strat yes. Killing is the main objective of the killer so logically tunnelling makes sense yes. But think about it. Youre legit stopping someone else from playing and its miserable. And it's not like you have a chance to recuperate like other games. You get tunnelled when most vulnerable so you don't even have a chance to fight back. Tunnelling as a strat is fair, but it's not fun at all.

And remember, DBD isn't a competitive game. You get nothing from winning except bragging rights. So most people play for fun. Fun is subjective, but we all can agree that having someone actively stopping you from playing the game with limited ways way to fight back is not fun.

If you are being tunneled out of the game you were playing by being chased. Plus nothing is stopping you from requeuing after you die and playing another game.

The survivor role is one that can be eliminated from the game. That is simply part of their gameplay.

  • The event ended and we have a dlc in 2 weeks. We're in a lull period. A lot of people are just going to be playing something else until Nic Cage drops.

  • @I_CAME said:

I don't get why people are determined to keep people in a game they don't want to take part in. They are dead weight to the team. You can stack up all the penalties and punishments in the world and it still won't force them to play if they don't want to. People will just afk or run around repeatedly vaulting, jumping into lockers, etc.

Because those people should just stop playing if they aren't going to attempt to play out games for whatever reason. The general game experience would be much better if people who didn't actually want to play DBD would stop queueing up.

  • DC penalties need to stay. We don't need killers and survivors shopping for the ideal games they want.

  • Devout:

1 point for hooking each survivor at least once.

1 point for having at least 9 hooks

2 points for survivor being sacrificed/mori'd/dc.

0 points for dying on the ground

    Malicious:

1 point for hitting a survivor

-1 point for survivors healing or escaping from grasp

2 points for survivors reaching a new hook state.

The emblems already favor killers who hook rather than not.

  • It's not meant to be visible, because it's not meant to be something you can brag about.

It's just there to try to create fairer matches. People keep saying that DBD is a party game and having mmr hidden helps keep it more of a party game.

  • People need to stop make comparisons for things they don't understand.

Bloodlust resets upon breaking pallets and killers using their power. There's very few killers in this game who should regularly be seeing bloodlust T1 and it really only exists for the situations where tile rng is really bad.

MTF on the other hand will always be present in a match, because being injured is the easiest thing to "accomplish" as a survivor. MTF is a problem while bloodlust is not, because bloodlust exists as a basekit mechanic to counter bad rng. MTF is not.

1 … 48 49 50 51 52 … 171
