I get the idea, but it does not really work. No Killer should be denied access to certain Perks. It is ok if some Perks just dont work on Killers or are bad on Killers, but outright denying access is wrong.
This COULD have worked when they would have designed the whole game in mind with this. E.g. the Killer has a Power Level and each Perk has a Power Level as well. And then lets say a Killer like Trapper is Power Level 1 and can use Perks with Power-Level 1-3 while Nurse is a Killer with Power Level 3 and can only use Perks which are Power Level 1 or 2. And Lethal Pursuer is a Power Level 3-Perks.
This would have worked. In theory. In reality, the Devs did not really know how strong Killers would be, at least back then. (You can see this with the old difficulty ratings. A highly complex Killer like Billy was considered Easy, while Wraith was intermediate)
The solution with Perks being too strong on certain Characters is not to make the Perks unable to use, but to nerf the Killers in a meaningful way. They failed to do so with Nurse multiple times and did not even attempt with Blight. And with Killers this strong, you would probably remove a ton of Perks from them. Better to adjust the Killer properly.
Wraith was considered to be intermediate?
-
I think they should have access to every perk. I have heard people suggest giving high-mobility killers less time on their aura reads and more time for killers with low-mobility, but I don't know whether BHVR would want to do something like that.
If you want to weaken the killer, one option could be to limit their perk slots to three instead of four. So characters like Nurse and Blight would be limited on how heavily they could stack their killer. But again, I don't know whether BHVR would consider that as an option to balance the top tiers.
BHVR doesn't seem to want to change the fundamental mechanics of technical killers, which makes sense as they take a long time to learn (messing with the blinks or rushes themselves would not only weaken the killer but obliterate all the work players put into learning to use them well), so looking at things like perks and add-ons makes sense.
-
I've had friends try the game out. We'll play in customs and I'll give them the "Nice Guy" killer experience. But then we go online and they meet low MMR killers. After three or four matches they give up and never play again lmao

I dont know if a beginner survivor should use WoO,if they want to learn.
I'm just being realistic here. It would be better for everyone to learn the maps organically, sure. But with like 50 variants, how are the majority of casual players going to learn the maps? Most players will never put in enough time to learn the maps properly, so having a universal perk like WoO would help them out greatly.

I like killer players that are in a good mood. Good Mood = More Fun. I don't mind the moveset too much. So I present to you... The Killer Happiness Chart

By splitting them up into different queues.
Casual match:
- You can only play with solo queue or a single friend
- No MMR/matchmaking
- Game is balanced as it is now (maybe even with some buffs to survivors as a whole, basekit kindred?)
Ranked match:
- You cany only play with a squad of 4
- Shows your MMR to you and other players.
- Game is balanced such that survivors are more nerfed and/or killers are buffed (maybe like, survivors have to repair 6 gens instead, or gens take 100 seconds, or something like that), or maybe the killer win condition is to just kill 1 survivor, or get 6 hooks or something like that.
Now you balance both modes different in terms of "basekit" for both sides, and your problem is solved. Give killers a 2x bloodpoint bonus for playing the ranked mode.
It could work. Do you think it's something that BHVR would consider doing though?
-
Are gens too quick in a match with super optimal survivors in a squad with comms? Yes.
Are gens too quick in a match with average survivors including solo queue? No.
Therein lies the problem. How do you slow down the most optimal squads without making matches for average survivors even harder? Survivor is both the strongest and weakest role in the game. Making it really difficult to balance. For example, if BHVR makes the BNP weak enough that four together isn't as strong, what will one do when an average solo queue player brings it with them? Next to nothing. That's not great for an extremely rare add-on.

Tell that to the 12.000h players that still use WoO every match because they dont have to use their memory to play effectively and efficiently.
WoO is such a weird perk. It's supposed to help newer players, but is used by people that "should" not need it anymore due to its effect of automatizing survivor gameplay.
The question isn't any more about how to learn maps without WoO but more about why learn maps at all if this perk exists.
If BHVR wants to give new survivors access to perks that can help them learn the game, WoO is a great choice. The perk is also great for solo queue players who lack communication. In my view, new players having access to Kate straight away would do more good than harm. It's not like learning map layouts is getting easier for new players. It only gets harder as time passes.

Kate can be unlocked with shards. No money needs to be thrown at the game.
I know that, but new players still have to grind for it. Not to mention that many new players don't watch content creators, so may not even be aware that the perk exists. I watched a bunch of survivor gameplay before I tried the game, and I never saw the perk. So I didn't know it existed until about a year after I had started playing.
I know you are not a fan of WoO, due to the impact it has on matches. But it's already popular. Why not just give it to the players who need it the most? I'd rather have a bunch of new survivors sticking around on autopilot, rather than them getting downed after ten seconds in chase every match and just giving up.
-
Your loadout will only make you the same speed at the slowest killers. That's not accounting for bloodlust and any haste effects the killer may have.

Please stop lying.
I said it should be a universal perk so new players have access to it. Of course new players aren't using it. It's not available to them unless they buy Kate.
-
What Otz said about WoO is right. There's too many maps to learn. Unless you are a veteran player, you're gonna need WoO just to have some idea of where anything is. Just make Kate and Clown part of the base roster. WoO would massively benefit new survivors and the Clown isn't exactly popular, or new.
I know people feel like WoO makes survivors worse players, but most people aren't going to play past a couple hundred hours, so who cares. Let them have something to ease the growing pains.

One content creator makes a video and suddenly at least two people notice that...
The Perks should not be universal. They are the Perks of Steve, Nancy and Demo. They have been like that before. It was a nice thing that they were universal so that people who did not have access to those characters can get the Perks. Now that the characters are back, it is fine that they are tied to the Perks again.
In the end, it is not like the grind is that much more because of this. All you have to do is to bring Steve, Nancy and Demo to P1 and you have the Perks in your Bloodweb again.
(And yes, people will have to buy the Chapter to achieve that. However, this is what BHVR wants and also needs. BHVR needs to make money. And if the Perks would be universal, players would maybe buy Demo, but not Steve or Nancy (as long as they are not a Fan of ST or just completionists), because they are just skins).
Yeah, I'm not sure why the OP didn't link the video. Might as well so everyone can hear the idea right from the source.
-
Tunneling from the start can be necessary at higher MMR if you aren't playing the strongest killers. But everyone else who tunnels at five gens does it to compensate for a lack of skill.
Ultimately, BHVR is to blame for making the most anti-social tactic for the killer to employ also be the most effective one. There's so many aspects of this game that need changing to fix this problem. It's much simpler to leave the problem intact and create perks that can help players who get tunneled, rather than try and replace a bunch of moving parts and just hoping that the machine keeps functioning.
-
If we don't get Prop Hunt I will be massively disappointed. It's pure meme content. We need this.

But that’s the funny thing survivors don’t have to work together that damn much because any action they take immediately helps the team except for being hooked, repairing? Helpful. Healing? Helpful. Being chased? Helpful! You don’t even need to see a another survivor the entire damn match sometimes and you’ll still win, I would know because I because I literally did like two gens while barely seeing my teammates the majority of the match and when I saw them the were just jacking off in a damn corner ffs
Right, but survivors don't only have the opportunity to help their teammates, they also have the ability to completely sink their team by making poor choices or playing badly. If having teammates wasn't often a barrier to success, solo queue would be a cakewalk.

So a huge frame rate difference and doing simple mechanics like 360'ing on PC isn't easier hm lol.
Oh no, you got me, hm lol.
I was responding to a thread that wants matchmaking to be changed so PC users (most of the playerbase) can be excluded because their advantages are too great. I never said there wasn't a difference. Simply that the difference isn't enough to warrant changing matchmaking.
-
People need to stop acting like playing killer/survivor on console is like having your kneecaps broken prior to the match starting. It's not as good as on PC but it's not bad at all. I can play Nurse on console with no problems, and others can play killers like Blight and Oni whilst still being able to utilise their most advanced tech. I can 360 as survivor and even moonwalk sometimes.
If people want BHVR to try and further improve controls on console, that's great. But stop acting like the gap in accessibility between mouse and keyboard, and controllers is completely insurmountable. It's not. This reminds me of the people who said I'd need hundreds of hours of practice to get a 1K as Nurse. The challenge is grossly overstated.

I'm still in favour of the nuclear option. Turbo buff all the unpopular perks and nerf any busted stuff that springs up. Killers and survivors can spend weeks building nuts builds before some things get tweaked. It would be a great few weeks, hopefully followed by more options for both sides.

This is correct. I reported an anonymous cheating Myers, then linked the footage via a support ticket. A day or two later I booted up the game and got a notification from BHVR saying that they had acted on the evidence I sent.

If we consider Deception and HeadOn funny perks, then I don't see why the likes of Lightborn and Franklin's don't count as well.
The upcoming Two Can Play is along the same lines too.
Deception is funny, not so sure about Head On though.
Two Can Play is probably the only funny perk killers have. It is challenging to build good, funny perks for killer, but I'd like to see BHVR give it a shot.
How about a perk that activates when you hit a healthy survivor, and it causes every other survivor to become blind for ten seconds? It could mess up skill checks, make survivors run into walls. More importantly it would be funny.

It is unclear what the maniac was doing if you were blocked before the crows appeared.
5 minutes of inactivity for two players is likely the death of the remaining two.
Half of the matches end in 5 minutes because with the current balance of power this is quite realistic.
Most likely you made up this story, otherwise the complaints about the players would have been taken into account and with the systematic repetition of such actions the problem would have been solved.
Dude, you have no clue whether it's true or not. You really shouldn't go around implying that people are lying unless you can actually demonstrate that's the case.
-
On the upside, the more threads we get where players commit to dodging lobbies with high prestige survivors, the quicker BHVR will move to hide prestige permanently. So keep em coming guys.
-
The more info each side has the more likely they will dodge. Killers will dodge P100, flashlights, toolboxes, survivors sharing the same skins, anonymous players, SWF ect. Survivors will dodge each other for many of the same reasons. All it does is make the matchmaking worse. Killers are the bulk of the problem, although if survivors could see what killer they were up against, they would also be dodging lobbies constantly.
Just remove the pre-game lobby entirely. If you want to show of your P100, do it after the game.

Whenever there's a post about something that needs a change and I would say generally accepted, they never get any interaction, no upvotes, no comments. But as soon as you have a "wrong" opinion, everyone is there to berate you and your opinion. What is that? Would we not have better odds of having the post seen by behaviour and it being implemented if the post did well? But instead people spend the energy on being dramatic and obsessive about their opinion in so called "controversial posts". I don't understand the dbd community
That's just how social media is. You make a good, fair point without talking smack, and nobody cares.
You have to remember that whilst this is an 18+ game, most of the players who visit the forums are likely children. You can tell based on how they interact with others as they have very limited social skills and will personally insult anyone that politely disagrees with them. I've lost track of the amount of threads I've seen that go something like "BHVR doesn't care about us and they only care about the other side", and "My side takes skill but the other side doesn't".
There's no reasoning with people like that. The best you can do is swat them down with a rolled up newspaper and hope they go away.

Minutes?
Hours!
...
Please be realistic. If you cant catch a survivor in less then a minute at shack, its time to watch a guide.
I play Nurse, so shack isn't really a problem when I play killer. But as survivor I can waste a lot of time at shack. Not to mention better survivor players who can get more value from it than I can.
-
I'm not sure what a casual gamemode would look like. But I'd guess it would be some sort of timed mode. Where the killer gets points by hooking survivors, tunneling for hooks would grant less points and hooking fresh survivors would grant more points. Survivors get points for doing gens, but get less for doing gens when someone is on the hook, incentivizing rescues. Or something like that.

Every shack is a ridiculous loop. You can waste minutes with just one pallet and a window.

If it happens multiple times then...ok? Still on you, no need to call for nerfs because it hurts your feefees. Just play custom games with bots at this point
-
I think the reason the game has much jank, is that even though there are ridiculous loops and resources for survivors, somehow survivors seem to end up dead more often than they escape. God pallets kind of suck for killer, but it can be a life saver for a survivor with less than optimal pathing. I can't imagine how most survivors would do if every loop needed a stun to be safe. I'd imagine kill rates would soar.
All of the variables that survivor players experience as a result of being a team, seems to be enough to keep kill rates where BHVR wants them. It's hard to balance things when one side is both the strongest role in the game, whilst also being the weakest.
-
Yeah, STBFL was in the shrine a while back. So that probably contributed to the increased usage. Plus content creators have been talking about how good it is, so that likely contributes to increased usage also.

@The_05_counsel said:
For the more in depth reasoning behind my thoughts please read my additional comments thank you.
having the ONE killer with only FOUR perks total have to jump through multiple hoops with extremely specific requirements to activate a single perk once, while also having the FOUR survivors with FOUR PERKS EACH needing only one EXTREMELY easy requirement to activate multiple perks at a time makes no sense at all and is totally bs.
instead they should be reversed with survivors having to jump through multiple hoops and killer needing only simple tasks, this would make sense because this game is a GOD DAMN 4v1, with survivors already having an easier objective then killers this just seems like an obvious idea.
like come on with stuff like bbq and chilli being considered a strong aura reading perk for the killer while being useless on smaller maps and outright negated by certain survivor perks is saying something. While survivors also have ######### like MTF that only requires you to be injured to keep haste buff PERMANENTLY ACTIVE!!!
PLEASE BHVR FIX THIS
Like other times stuff like this has been suggested, it completely ignores the fact that roles of survivor and killer are completely different.
Survivors have to deal with all the issues that comes from them having to work together to win, the killer does not. Survivors start out at their strongest, whereas the killer gets stronger tpwards the end of the match as survivors lose hook states and burn the map's resources. The two roles are so different that any comparison of perks is pointless.
-
It's definitely one of those perks that will annoy a lot of players. Not quite on the level of boil over, but somewhere close.

Some people do, not every killer players are comp level.
Most of our playerbase is probably not competive. Mostly casual (both sides). That's why hard killers are more rare while easy power killers are more popular. Huntress, Wesker, Legion comes to mind. All of these killers have fun and easy to learn powers.
I'm not really competitive. But If I devote a lot of time to a character, in any game, I want new stuff to discover and learn. It keeps things feeling fresh.

Nurse is not hard to play.
You don't need to "master" her to destroy in public matches.
The pork chop is correct. The difficulty ratings were decided by someone's wine-aunt, who only ever played Candy Crush and kept blinking into the basement by accident.

Complex mechanics are what keeps me playing a killer. Who wants to play Wraith for 3000 hours?

Same, but my peasant console skills question if I can control slice and dice. I don’t like Oni, Blight, or Billy…can’t control them. Chucky Lunge seems short and not overly necessary but hug tech is being used and that looks like it involves flicking. I hope he feels decent on console.
I've seen people hug tech with Blight on console, so it should be okay. I find Nurse plays fine on PS5, but I've never tried Blight or Oni myself.
