Survivors got used to play with very strong perks and now they can not appreciate them. That's my honest opinion.
SWF can bring 16 strong perks & 4 Items with strong addons as well.
Killer can use only 4 Perks that are not stronger than Survivors Perks. Okay. We shouldn't compare Survivor Perk to Killer Perk.
But it's easy to notice how much value only 1 Survivor Perk can make.
What strong perks Survivors can use at current DBD? Dead Hard, Sprint Burst, Lithe, Balanced Landing, Adrenaline , Unbreakable, Resilence, Windows Of Opportunity, Buckle Up, For The People, Made For This, Hope and more and more, but not that strong at these things.
I need to repeat this - it's 4 Perks Vs 16 Perks.
What Killer can play?
Pop Goes The Weasel - he need to down someone first and carry him to the hook and next hope than Survivors will not finish the gen before he kicks it.
Pain Resonance - to get constant value from this Perk Killer needs to chase different Survivors.
Only these two Perks Regresion are strong and viable.
Dead Lock & No Way Out - only 2 decent slowdown perks.
Aaaaa I forgot Distorion on Survivor side - it basically reveals Killer's Perks and let them avoid Aura reveal. Poor Huntress...
As of what we have right now, I can't think of any killer perks I wish were nerfed. But I'm gonna emphasize what you briefly said about survivor/killer perks. Comparing them as though the role of killer and survivor teams is the same, is a mistake. It's true that killers only have 4 perks, whereas survivors have 16. But survivors have to navigate all the pitfalls of teamwork, that's assuming they are even able to communicate with each other. Survivors can sink each other and the whole team by themselves. Killers never have to deal with this. The roles are different, so perk comparison feels kind of pointless.
Those are 4 good perks. I did notice that there's no undectable ones on there though. I love undectable. You can do some serious damage with it. To me, it feels like the most underrated effect in the game.

Like, I came back after some months i couldnt play...
I got rusted, I missed hits/special attacks etc.
But holy dang....
No matter what you do, which killer which perks/addons, no matter how good you play, there isnt a feeling of getting rewarded if you are playing good. You chase survs, drop chases you cannot win, patrol gens, punish their mistakes...
Gens are popping left and right, even with corrupt and deadlock...
You are popping and scourging gens, 30 sec later, gen is done.
You hit them with sloppy, drop their items, wait for pickups Under pallets, tunnel the weakest link out...
Still there is a safe pallet up somewhere, still there is a double windowed tile, still there is an Unbreakable/adrenaline/dead hard/etc.
You cannot bloodlust as they walk, crouch, break los or pallet vacuum you into oblivion...
And even if you manage to get downs and hooks, you cannot defend your objective as it gets a free unhook plus endurance plus speed. Even in endgame, if one healthy surv comes to unhook you cannot do sht as autoaim thinks you want to hit the surv on the hook...
Survs fuckup and dont get punished, you get pallet stunned or fl blinded once, it seems like you can already quit the match.
If survivors arent complete potatoes, there is no feeling of accomplishment when playing killer.
Regardless of what you do, survs always seem to have the upper hand while not even havin to think a bit due to every info getting handed and noted for them...
So, playing against potatoes gives you a feeling of accomplishment? Why? That's like celebrating winning a race, after your only opponent fell off a bridge and drowned two minutes after the race started.
Sorry, but the last bit just sounds like salty, gamer rage. You only lose cos your opponents get free wins without having to use their brains, and you have to be at peak performance otherwise you can't even put a dent in the opponent. This sentiment has been said many times. But if you are going to list every potential problem a killer could face in a match, whilst ignoring any problems that survivors face, whilst also generalizing that survivors can play badly and not get punished for it, then I'm not going to take your objective take on game balancing seriously.
-
It depends on the situation. If you are spending time chasing someone and making no real progress, then you should definitely switch targets.

The only fix I can think of besides locking survivors in the unhooking animation is having a run to cancel option, kind of like when you're on the ground slugged, a teammate tries to heal you but you can prevent them just by pressing the run button.
Couldn't they just make it so the survivor on hook doesn't make a bunch of noise and the camera doesn't switch until the unhooking has progressed far enough that it can't be cancelled out of? That way unhooking and cancelling would have the same effect as just standing next to the hook and survivors could still bait out ranged killers who are watching the hook.
-
@Emeal said:
I agree, unhooks should work like vaults, meaning once its started it cant be stopped.
The only reason its used is for Survivors to annoy the person on hook atm.

Since hook grabs are not a thing anymore, there's absolutely no reason for survivors to stop the unhooking once it's started
Yes, they should lock them to the unhook animation
I managed to save a teammate in end game by pretending I was unhooking, and stopped so I could dodge Gunslinger's spear. There are some tactical uses for it, even now that hook grabs are gone.
Hook rescue spamming does suck, but there must be a better way to fix it.

I think it is genuinely unfair to players that we don't have separate queues or game modes yet
I think designing killers for certain peripheral inputs like on PC but not controller is unfair
The most unfair thing to me is the poor optimization across consoles, especially for users of a platform like Switch. I would classify Switch treatment as being a step away from cruel and unusual punishment
The performance on the Switch is fine. As long as you are falling down a flight of stairs whilst playing you won't even notice the frame drops.

Things that are unfair in the game?
Windows of Opportunity.
It's not really unfair...
Goes on the list anyway.

in dbd you're able to notice small differences
Why does it matter if you can notice a small difference? The only difference that matters is whether you get hit during the vault or not. That 9% is doing absolutely nothing the vast majority of the time. So why does it need a nerf?
-
Seeing as BHVR will accidently nerf fast vaults again at some point, I say we buff resilience to compensate.
I still find it funny that a 9% increase to vault speeds is so controversial.

Just had 2 Trapper games on Hawkins map back to back.
The First game I tunneled and camped, got 3K and nobody tbagged and nobody rly said anything other than something about tunneling.
The Second game, I didn't tunnel anyone, I didn't camp even at end game, I went on purpose for the rescuer every time even tho I had chance to go for easy unhooked person and down them again. I got tbagged from all Survivors at gates , got 0K and felt like a clown.
So this is what you get when you play nice hm? I know not every team will do this, but this isn't uncommon for Survivors to look at you down when you giving them a favor. Overall, it's not worth to play nice when you just get yourself less points, less wins and Survivors will just clown with you anyway.
So keep that in mind when you ask killer why he tunnels/camps etc from the start.
If winning is the most important part of the game then you should do WHATEVER it takes to win. Is someone's grandmother playing the game for the first time from a hospice bed? Tunnel her out. She needs to git gud.
If you need something other than winning to have fun, then going into every match assuming everyone sucks ahead of time is a bad strategy. Sometimes you offer a hand to someone and they give you a slap in return. You either go into a new match and tunnel grandma out, or you allow for the possibility that the next people you meet might not be satan.

What if the new killer is... a knife.

Killers got the SH map. You have to admit, one is a cool number. You can do so much with it.

Don't worry. Regardless of the return of ST, you are still incredibly old. Don't let anyone tell you that you can get up from a seated position without issues by yourself, because you can't. Nobody can ever take that away from you.

I started playing two years ago, so I never got to play it. I did hear it was kind of a mediocre map. I am looking forward to trying it out though.

It shouldn't be an inconvience to killers as long as it respects things like undectable. It would be a small thing that would be help solo queue quite a bit.

So the honeymoon is over? That was fast. I think I got whiplash.

The ST content went on sale, because the ST license was expiring and not getting renewed at that time. There was no guarantee that ST would ever come back, but it wasn't like the devs said that ST could never return.

I don't think BHVR did a FOMO with ST. I'm pretty sure this one was out of their control.

So Hawkins isn't back yet, as it needs to be tested for the new killer powers that released after it was kill-switched? Does that mean BHVR wasn't prepared for the return of ST? Were they as surprised as we were? 😂

Yes, you do see Dead Hard + MFT but now MFT is only going to activate if you pull off a dead hard which you can only attempt up to 2 times max and that's assuming you got hooked 2 times and you actually bait the Killer into hitting your dead hard. That's such a clear and substantial nerf.
Outside of this if you deliberately hit 10s basekit endurance and chase that survivor down, you're tunneling and maybe you should be punished? Also nobody is walking around with OTR for 80s without doing any conspicuous action if they aren't truly getting tunneled either... I'm not saying MFT is garbage now because we didn't test PTB yet but it's limited and situational now for sure.
Honestly, if BHVR wanted to completely rework the perk to make it into an anti-tunnel perk, I would have preferred that. Something like 60 seconds of 5% haste that disables in end game blah blah. I'd take that over the original.
-
It's definitely worse overall, but it's still going to be good in certain situations with the right loadouts. I can't see it being popular with more casual survivors, but veteran players will probably still put it to use.
-
You're not alone. I starting playing less around the time the Xeno chapter dropped. Not due to the killer, but that was when the matchmaking felt like it got substantially worse. I haven't touched the game for a few weeks now. I keep waiting for something to draw me back in but so far nothing has. Unless we get some more Cage style survivor perks, I'll probably not play again until BHVR does something major with the game.
Solo queue is not a good way to play survivor. When the best survivor players can't carry a solo queue team, what hope does anyone else have? I stopped judging players for disconnecting a long time ago. The amount of garbage solo queue survivors have to put up with is absurd. The worst part is that it is impossible to fix. Buff survivors as much as you want, but if someone wants to throw the match, they will. If the matchmaking gives you potatoes, you're gonna lose.

I would love full perk overhaul, leaving only 1 perk per character, and all simmilarly viable
I think BHVR should go for a hail mary and just turbo buff all unpopular perks, and then just deal with any broken stuff that appears after. It would be so refreshing to jump back on the game and experiment with all the new options. It's gotta be better than nerfing the most popular perks every few months and just leaving the rest in mediocrity.
-
Most solo queue teams can't manage five gens as it is now. The base values of the gens shouldn't change, as that just makes the matches worse for ALL survivors. Punishing all survivors, including the majority of survivors who are casual, solo queue players is a bad idea. The game already struggles with retaining new players, this would just make it worse.
If you want to weaken gen progression then you should target the things that are much more common in higher level SWF. That being perks like Built to Last or Scavenger combined with optimal toolboxes. That would weaken stronger survivors without kicking every survivor in the teeth.
-
I really wish BHVR would take some time to buff weak perks, rather than doing next to nothing with the perk balance for months and then nerfing like one perk and declaring Meta Shift. I'm glad MFT got reworked, but that doesn't change the fact that that we have a massive pool of perks that are either crap or boring and uninteresting.
I'd give up additional content for a while, just to have more interesting choices to make builds with.
-
It is a strong perk. The argument people make is that it isn't broken or OP. I think all survivors are aware of how useful the perk is.
-
I don't know if there will be a DbD2. This game has so many iconic franchises. A sequel would either get rid of those licenses and start fresh or risk losing them in the transition. I think we are here for the long haul.

My point was not as much about the strategy you can use with different killers but about the use of the power, for example using deathslingers power to shoot through tiny holes is different than huntress in some spots at least, whereas all you can do as myers is autoattack and stalk, sure your stalk might give you wallhacks, or insta down or eventually even a mori, but that's it. Nothing of his kit gives you much to learn from a mechanical standpoint.
That's why I said Nemesis and Alien are different, Aliens power is like a spear with a hitbox you can somewhat drag, at least up and down, i'm not sure if also horizontally. Whereas Nemesis can drag his whip sideways, because it already hits everything in a vertical way, which can result in some funny hits basically only he can get. The point is the gameplay differs, you are going for different hits, are able to get hits where other killers can not and so on and so forth.
I think our disagreement is just semantic, as in we just use words differently. I don't think we disagree. At the core of it, Alien and Nemisis are different, but from a casual perspective (which mostly dictates pick rates), the two killers aren't that different. I could see why Alien dropped of so hard for casual players. There's nothing too unique there from a casual glance, but of course when you spend time with the two killers you will feel the difference.

The way you use Xenos power is quite different from everyone else, the part which allows you to hit over things is something that no other killer has in that form, so I think his gameplay is unique enough. Whereas Myers is one of the most basic m1 killers there is, how exactly is his gameplay unique? Unless you go for some mori addons.
There's a lot of different ways you can play Myers. Stay in tier one and go for pure stealth. Play the long game with Tombstone and Piece. He feels distinct, even from Ghostface.

Xenos tail and Nemesis tentacle work completely different though, especially when you look at the hitbox of it... The only thing they have in common is a somewhat similar range.
How is his traversal through tunnels like a teleport? Both teleports give a audio/visual warning when they happen, Freddy even more than Sadako, that you almost cannot miss whereas with Xeno I have not noticed anything (directional). I think he is pretty unique in that sense.
I'm not saying they are exactly the same. I'm saying that there's enough similarity to other killers that people were likely to lose interest faster.
For me, unique killers are Plague, Nurse, Blight, Spirit, Oni, Myers. They all feel very distinct from each other. Whereas Xeno feels like a combination of other killers' abilities with slight stylistic tweaks.

Hello, I'm one of the four people on the forum who is old enough to get this joke.

I feel like the biggest negative with Xeno is that none of it's tools are unique. It's traversal options are similar to Freddy and Sadako. Xeno's M2 is just Nemesis' Tenticle. The killer is somewhat basic. Cool, but basic.

Honestly, once you've made it past her skill floor, slapping on a bunch of aura reading perks does make Nurse kind of auto-pilot. It's the strongest loudout for the strongest killer in the game.

So in this case, the only one who will feel the lagging is the vpn killer not the other players.
In this game, if the killer is lagging due to running a VPN, it actually gives them an advantage. It means the killer can hit survivors at locations where they have currently left. So the survivor vaults a window and starts running, but for the killer, the survivor is still vaulting, as the killer is lagging behind the survivor. So the killer attacks at the window and gets the hit despite the survivor having already cleared the window. Not to mention that a killer who essentially teleports around the map is almost impossible to avoid.
Survivors wouldn't care too much about killers using a VPN if it only made the killer experience worse. But in this game lagging as killer gives you a massive advantage.
-
@mustdogen said:
Uhhh maybe you are the one who had the bad ping?
If my memory isn't wrong, all player are connected to official server.
So if you feeling the delay,it would be only because of yourself.
The game chooses a server for you based on where you are geographically. If you use a VPN the game chooses a server based on where you pretend you are. So a killer from Asia could run a VPN and pretend they are in the US, connect to a US server and lag like hell whilst the other players who are actually in the US don't lag.
This isn't a new problem so I'm not sure why you are blaming the OP.
-
You could basekit Kindred and Bond, then add VC, and solo queue would still suck. Seeing auras and hearing someone's mum shouting at them won't stop players from disconnecting, going AFK or trying for the 4% at five gens. It won't make survivors bother to go for unhooks and it won't compensate for the terrible matchmaking. You can't make solo queue just like SWF. It's impossible to make the two on par with each other.
BHVR can keep improving solo queue, but there's a limit to how much they can achieve without making survivors in general too strong, and SWF will always be much stronger than solo queue.
-
Killers are meant to be able to hook survivors after downing them. Hooking a survivor isn't meant to be as challenging as downing them in the first place. Less hooks means a single, sloppily done Sabo would result in the killer not being able to hook the downed survivor. That won't be healthy for the game, and survivors will be on here complaining about getting slugged to death every match.

Those aren't the default controls...
You hold R1 to repair, L1 for skill checks, leaving your thumb free to look around.
I did start playing on the Switch before I played on PS5. It was about two years ago, so maybe I'm remembering it wrong.
-
The default controls on console are hideous. On a gen, you are holding down circle, whilst pressing R1 for skill checks, whilst trying to look around with the right stick. How is that remotely optimal? Does the playtesting team consist of squid-human hybrids? How does anyone play like that? You'd need two thumbs on your right hand to utitlise that control scheme effectively.
This game didn't become playable for me till I had remapped almost every single button.

I'm pretty sure a mod replied pretty recently on the forums to someone asking if that exact situation (killer bleeding out 4 survivors for no reason) was bannable, and they said that it wasn't. I believe the reasoning was that you can't prove that the killer doesn't have a reason to do this, the same way you can't prove a survivor isn't actually trying for the 4% or messed up the 2nd phase skillchecks on purpose.
This is why going for the 4% isn't reportable and isn't going anywhere. BHVR isn't going to devote a bunch of resources and money to policing 4% attempts or completely rework hooks and all the perks that interact with them. It's too big of an ask.
