And if we wanted to play with AI we would have made a custom match vs AI.

Someones spotty wifi shouldn't punish 4 other people from having a good game.

If your wifi crashes so often that you reach the 24h mark, you should consider single player games.

It takes you 5-6 DCs in a day to reach a 24h ban.

I have no idea how the ban system scales and decays. That was just an example.

It's not the end of the world if we get a bot 2/20 matches or so. The punishment of having a bot isn't that bad. Despite the fact that part of me dies whenever I hear that DC sound, even now when we get a bot to replace the person that left.

I will miss watching people pop out of existence though. Seeing them disappear only for an item to drop to the ground was always funny.

So by your logic , bhvr should let the people with chronic wifi problems ruin the matches for everyone else.

Your whole argument comes from a selfish point of view. "I should be allowed to ruin matches for everyone else because my wifi is bad and go completely unpunished"

We get a bot. It's better than nothing. Some players only get connection issues a few times a day. Should those people get a 24 hour ban after a couple of days? I don't think so.

There was a period when dc-penalties were off, and the number of quitters skyrocketed. I find it reasonable to assume that there is a strong inverse correlation between the severity of dc-penalty, and the number of disconnects. Do you have any reason to suspect that dc-penalties don't discourage leaving matches?

There's plenty of research on the relationship between punishment and reoffending, and the short version is that punishment works up to a point. Increasing the punishment beyond a certain point doesn't deter certain behaviours any more than a lesser punishment. Punishing players for a DC works, up to a certain point. But extending the severity of the punishment isn't guaranteed to further reduce players leaving the match. But it is guaranteed to harm players with unstable internet.

    @WilliamSN said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3516944#Comment_3516944

Stop thinking with the "me me me" mentality.

Someone ragequitting or leaving due to bad internet impacts the match quality for the other 4 people in the match.

People queue up and expect to find a match with 4 other people, otherwise they would have played custom matches versus AI.

Someones wifi problem or ragequit tendencies shouldn't be encouraged at all, your problems dont justify the 4 others in the match being punished with a lower quality match.

I'm sorry, me me me what? I have fantastic internet. I don't live with my mum like you probably do, so I can choose to have great internet. This is not a problem I have.

The point I ACTUALLY made was that I just don't think BHVR should be excessively punishing players who live in places like the US, where often they have zero choices as to what ISP they can choose and get stuck wiith trash internet, if they can't even demonstrate that increasing the punishment reduces the amount of DC's. Don't accuse me of being self-centered, whilst dismissing issues that relate to players other than you, when you can't even demonstrate that it's worth screwing over those players.

  • @Evan_ said:

Sounds like a technical issue of a single player. The proposed solution would negatively affect the experience of many. There are already enough people who leave matches if they don't like how it goes. If anything, I'd prefer if the leaving penalties would be even harsher.

It feels terrible to say, but I don't think expecting a steady connection is an unreasonable requirement for an online multiplayer game. Neither it should be from one's ISP.

What's the point of increasing the intensity of punishments if it doesn't actually decrease the offending behaviour? At that point you're just punishing people because it brings you satisfaction. Which shouldn't be a motivation for how you repremand someone.

Then you have to consider how it affects players with unstable internet. Which is something that many people, depending on where they live, can't do much about. So if increasing DC penalties doesn't decrease the amount of people who leave the match prematurely, and it seriously harms some player's ability to play the game, then what's the point?

The original post was about the lackluster amount of viable killer perks forcing a "meta"

But since you want to discuss that, sure.

At high mmr where survivors run mft+resi+adren+hope , killers will be FORCED to bring the strongest killer with strongest perks and addons available just in order to be able to tie.

If survivors complain about killer diversity, more often than not, they are responsible for pushing away the casual killer players due to the unhealthy survivor metas and youre forced to play vs more competitive nurse/blight/wesker players

The thing is, I don't see any way to actually confirm whether killers play the strongest loadout because it's easier to win with or because they feel they have no choice. That's why I take issue with you asserting that one side is victim to the other. As though killer players won't run busted loadouts because it makes matches easier to win. Survivor and killer intentions don't seem very different to me. Both sides will utilise the strongest loadout they can. Whatever BHVR provides for each side to use to win, they use. Bearing in mind that the majority of survivors are not running meta builds and contributing to the oversaturation of certain perks and playstyles. So this statement doesn't even apply to the majority of players.

In regards to the OP. Whilst I think perk combos like FTP + BU need to be modified, whatever meta perks get nerfed, they will just get replaced with something else, and the complaining will continue ad nauseam.

  • I want more dark maps. It doesn't feel like horror when everything is lit up.

There's a difference between killers being forced to run the strongest of the weakest perks

And survivors bringing the strongest of the busted perks.

What is a killer supposed to swap pop for? Eruption , that gives you 10% on a down IF you pre-kicked a gen? Jolt, for 8% IF you use M1s? SHPR where you only have 4 uses and sometimes you'll waste a token on a 10% gen?

I'd rather gamble pop sometimes being used on a 10% gen for the extra 3% , with the upside of sometimes knocking down 30% of an almost finished gen

Meanwhile survivors have multiple variations of endurance, busted combos like FTP+BU , MFT+Resi , multiple perks to slam gens with etc etc.

Why do you assume that killers only run the strongest perks because survivors force them to? I'm pretty certain killers didn't need to run the glitched merciless storm but they used it constantly. Killer players want to win too, and will run the strongest perks they can, even if it's something completely broken like merciless storm was before BHVR fixed it.

I'm going to bring Calm Spirit every game now and hope I see some variant of "Calm Spirit should not counter Doctor's power" or for people who bring Spies from the Shadows, would be really funny, ngl.

I run Calm Spirit on every loadout, and I never get tired of the reaction Doctor players have when when the shock doesn't make me scream . Some get confused and others just look at me with disgust.

Problem is that they have either very bad or no testers. So it results in buckle up + FTP...

Do you really want to have new broken perks on either side each 3 months?

Games will just become nuclear contest again.

I would love to see more valid perks, but many perks can't be saved with numbers (lots of them can). But it will just become hell for either side sooner or later and won't be fixed for several months...

Honestly I think I would take broken stuff that needs to be dialed back over stale, dry bread at this point.

FTP + BU are pretty busted, but I think a ton of perks could be improved a bunch without things becoming broken.

I think you could buff the crap out of perks like lightweight, plunderer's instinct, deception, detective's lunch, inner focus, guardian ect, to make them more appealing to use. Like, why is there a rage limit on detective's lunch? It can only occur five times per match, why does it need a range limit?

  • I'm so bored of BHVR primarily focusing on nerfs and only occassionally buffing mediocre perks. We need more buffs, less nerfs. There's like 200 perks and at least half feel completely underwhelming.

  • I think Devour Hope is the strongest perk, not so much that it's overpowered though.

  • I tend to respect the killers who are the most likely to goof off at least once per match and embrace the party aspect of the game. Those being Plague, Pig, Billy, Huntress, Booba, Ghostface and Nemesis.

I live in a parallel universe where every Booba I meet is extremely honorable and flees the hook like he's allergic to it, and Nemesis players almost always goof off and never tunnel. Don't envy me though, as in my universe, Hag is actually reasonably common.

  • Both sides don't need the exact same tools. The roles are completely different.

I definitely think there should be a lobby dodge penalty that starts to stack up. Way too much lobby shopping happens and it completely screws up matchmaking.

100%. A community manager even cofirmed that lobby dodging causes the back fill which causes lousy match balance. So this should be addressed.

  • It would be problematic as a feature, but I could get behind repeat killer prevention. It would have some impact on matchmaking but it would also lessen some of the fatigue from playing against the same killer constantly.

Nobody deserves to suffer through back-to-back Hag sessions.

  • The 4% isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. It would require too many things to be reworked. That would take a bunch of time.

Yeah I catch his streams every now and then (assuming you're talking about Spookyloops lol I think we can name them as long as we aren't saying negative things or outright advertising for them)

I respect someone who can maintain that kind of energy for an extended period of time. I can't lmao. It's definitely the kind of vibes I'm looking for when I jump on YT for some escapism. I tried watching some other streamers, but they got aggro so much it put me off.

  • I quite like their gameplay from a survivor perspective. It feels refreshing when most of the time you just run around a rock for several loops. I think people would like playing against the Nurse more if she hadn't been so strong for so long. I think 7 years of the Nurse dominating the game has caused a lot of fatigue in the community.

I think it's a similar thing with the Spirit. I think she would be more liked if she were less strong. I think the difficulty in playing against her makes it hard for survivors to appreciate the uniqueness of the experience.

Playing against a player who is good, but not cracked with these killers is a lot of fun in my opinion.

They did this for Doctor by removing his flashing images, so yeah, go ahead, i dont personally feel nausea from it, but it is annoying as hell.

    At least tone it down.

I appreciate that they toned down the flashing lights, but I wish they would also tone down the noise. I have sensory issues, but I suffer more with my hearing than from sight. I have to play stealth with Calm Spirit against him or my brain will melt.

I remember when I first played the game with headphones and went up against a Plague. The constant sound of watery vomit was awful. That doesn't phase me so I got over it. But it must be unplayable for people who can't stomach that sound.

  • I was wondering half way through why he chose this footage to be edited into it's own video. He's not having a good time so it's not that enjoyable to watch.

  • This forum is not representative of the playerbase in general. Most matches I play are great. There's always going to be toxic players but they are not a majority.

In regards to the forum. I understand that players get annoyed by stuff. But the amount of threads where the OP is rude and aggressive to people, whilst whining about how hard they have it, is unreal. People often make no effort to control their emotions and just start insulting other people. Not even aiming the insults at the people who offended them, but everyone on the other side. Then when they get called out they start crying about how mistreated they are. It genuinely annoys the crap out of me.

Whenever I have useless teammates, a Pig will appear from the fog to guide me to the hatch.

Thank you Pig players for being the best of us.

  • After The Knight, I genuinely didn't think we would get another zone control killer for a while. Then came the Skunk Merchant. Then we got Hag 2.0.

I'm now waiting to see them show off footage of facehuggers patrolling gens. I hope they have party hats.

  • Keep your nerf bat away from my meme perks.

  • Not only are they saving you time, it also looks funnier. I see no problem here.

  • I still play the game being as evasive as possible. I like the horror aspect of it. Memeing is fun. Pebble plays, dropping dead with PT. Stuff like that.

  • Thanks for contributing a rage dump to the forums. As though the place didn't stink enough already.

  • Does Billy need buffs? It's hard to tell when all you meet are Billy vets. They make the character seem so strong.

  • I feel bad when someone goes to second because nobody unhooked, and then I sacrifice them and remove them from the match early. Those who want to tunnel will, regardless of the hook count being visible.

  • There really is no point in having DC bots when people are afraid to DC and just peace out on the hook. It doesn't fix the problem it was meant to. The 4% mechanic isn't going anywhere either, so no point in asking for that.

  • Is there any chance of getting stats for Solo Queue / SWF Escape rates?

I always think survivor' perks should work like that, stronger, but limited, like a resource.

That's a good idea. Make it strong but limit it's use. Right now the perk is actually detremental to your team. It either needs to be strong, but limited or given a complete rework into something that is easier to balance.

Even this guy remarks several times that it is unfair how easily he gets through the matches.

The only people to actually win was Hens and his professional, tournament, SWF group. Every single other match was a 3k/4k multi mori match.

    All high MMR players.

Also this from the best content creator in this community. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5G0rOFsHiw&t=274s

Even these people, who are better than both of us combined at this game. Say shes busted.

    Thank you for your time!

You need to chill out. I agree that she may need some tweaking, I just don't think she's as OP as you think she is.

Maybe next time someone interacts with you in good faith.

  • @Gandor said:

Chain blinds are important aspect when someone is being tunneled. I agree it comes to play in bully squad and SWF much more often, but blinding killer 3x with 1 extra stun can be the difference between killer resuming his chase for that single person with 2 hooks (out of 2 hooks in whole game at 4 gens) and killer being able to resume his tunneling-spree.

As for the stuns - that would be information on it's own which can be potentially quite valuable. I hook survivor and hit him. If I get stun, I am going to pressure gens. If I don't get stunned... Well, time to camp (or at minimum look around the hook). Also - you don't need to hit people at hook to BM. It's perfectly enough to shake head at them.

So for the first idea - I don't like it because it's one of the rare mechanics that actually help tunneled-out person (even though it's higher-mmr play that comes rarely and is abused more often then not) and the second one would very much depend on distance of the other survivors (if the distance is quite short - which probably means less then 10m maybe even 5m distance), but ultimately does not solve anything.

In regards to the hook BM. I suggested adding a distance requirement to it so a killer would not hit the hooked survivor whilst someone was trying to unhook them and end up getting stunned as a result. So only a distance of like 2 - 6m max. This wouldn't provide information to the killer, just limit what I find to be the most aggressive type of BM a killer can dish out.

You are definitely right that there are some situations where chain blinding can be used in a legitimate way. I just wonder if it's negative uses vastly outweigh it's positive uses. Since BHVR announced the anti-hook camping mechanic, I've had hope that tunneling will also be addressed. Although it will require changes to the game, as most killers can't really track down and hook 12 survivors by the time 5 gens are done. So I'm not sxpecting it any time soon. If tunneling ever gets nerfed, I think a change like this would be a good thing.

It sounds all fine theoretically "All 4 survivor split up and grab a tape at the start".

But that argument quickly falls apart on so many levels for things that ACTUALLY happen in game:

1: Noone knows the killer on startup, only way to know is to find a gen or run into her

2: Survivors will have to, all 4, seperate at the start of the match once they find out its Sadako and find a TV/Gen

3: Hope that they are not spotted doing this (which will not happen)

4: Hope one of your teammates, unknowingly, doesnt take a tape you are headed to.

5: Hope she doesnt teleport in your face by the time you DO find your own personal TV

No match ever, across my playtime of 1.2k hours, across all youtubes I have watched, across all streams I have watched, across all TOURNAMENT play I have watched. Have 4 players, on match start, immediately split up and get their own personal generator. It's always at least a group of 2.

It's not a realistic expectation for Soloq players for this kind of play. And this is the majority of the player base.

Nothing you listed is something that happens all the time. Those are just variables. Solo queue always has a bunch of variables that SWF doesn't have to account for. Sadako can be rough in solo queue, but she's no Pinhead. I think she may still need some tweaking, but I think she's not horrendous in most situations.

  • Yeah, the screams are annoying. I just keep assuming they will fix it at some point.

  • Sure. A bunch of killers could run a 3 gen just like SM before the regression nerfs. It required almost no skill and helped push bad players to higher MMR. Now that it's gone those players will now drop back down again (or start playing SM). Regardless of balance, dragging a match out for 30+ minutes by ignoring survivors and just kicking gens should never be an option. I don't care how thirsty for a win you are.

  • It's annoying when players peace out in solo queue, but I can't bring myself to get angry with them. Playing in solo queue can be absoloutely hideous at times. It feels bad to play well but lose like 10 matches straight due to one or many of the following:

Teammate peace's out on hook early on.

Killer is hook camping (hard to coordinate the gen rush to counter it).

Matchmaking gave you two baby survivors against a 20th prestige Pinhead.

You ran the killer for 3 minutes and nobody has touched a gen yet.

Your three teammates all stayed together after spawning and managed to all get exposed by GF all the same time.

You spawn with a teammate and they start spamming fast vaults and lead the killer to you.

Three teammates have flashlights and refuse to touch the gens. Leaving you (with no toolbox or gen perks) to finish 5 gens solo.

You're never going to be able to stop people from being bratty and entitled, but maybe if they keep improving the solo queue experience things could get better.

Maybe BHVR should do a survey to find out what it is that makes players RQ so often. Maybe they could use that data to try and improve the game with it. Focusing on improving matchmaking, adding more tools for solo survivors, adding a killer repeat prevention system, removing Wraith from the game, giving Pig a party hat to wear so survivors know which snoot is safe to boop. Whatever it is that players get annoyed at and which BHVR can improve (within reason).

  • The match feels managable if everyone scrambles for a tape at the beginning. But it feels like if you don't get one, then it can be very hard to acquire one later one as she will disable TV's when she starts spamming teleport. So if the survivors spawn close together, things get kind of messy.

  • @catslayer said:

am i the only one who feels bad when the killer loses the match and my teammate or two just start spamming "ez" "noob" in the post-chat? the person that we're going against is a player too, doesn't mean you gotta treat him like trash immediately. or even better, just because we've lost they all automatically assume that the killer's "cheating", and when i do say that it all was fair and might be because of the addons/perks, they all start bashing on me too and i become their main victim, no wonder everyone calls the survivor side toxic. i just try to keep the calm atmosphere by saying "ggwp" even when it's a loss but some people want the opposite, unfortunately.

sometimes i just hate my teammates more than our own opponent, who agrees?

What you described is basic human empathy. I can promise you that you're not the only one who possesses it.

I'm sure they could create lazer surgery bays for removal of Mr Chompers. It would be weird if the Facehuggers didn't show up.

  • I'm guessing something similar to Pig. Facehugger gets you via a trap and you have to do a side objective to not die.

The important question is, can it run a three gen?
