Okay, for me personally, I will admit that I am a petty person, I do many things just out of spite.

But, of all things I do, I do have a mini "code of conduct" that I follow, most of it contains obvious stuff like "only BM if they are friends and/or if they BM me first" as per ingame banter.

One of the things I have done for a really long time in DBD though, is if someone is AFK or intentionally throws the match, I will solely make sure that they do not escape and let every other player in the match escape.

Likewise, if someone is also trying to intentionally off themselves ingame (like when they point at the hook over and over specifically), I will make sure that they survive out of pettiness or bleed them out and let the other people go depending on the situation (a lot of nuance with this one).

With the new Alien chapter, there are going to be people who do not want to play against the new Killer, so it has been a rather common occurrence to have it happen.

I got into a confrontation over doing it, a player was not happy that I let everyone go despite the fact that they were AFK the entire match and only didnt play because I was playing the Xenomorph. Of course they called me out and reported everyone for "working with the Killer" despite the fact that they were never actively playing the game anyways.

I think the only thing bad thing I have done is just bleed people out, but as I mentioned before, Ive only done it if they point at the hook, and I normally let the other people go (unless I am doing Adept of course).

The only problematic thing is it is kind of hypocritical since I hate being bleed out myself, but I have recognized that there is a bit of nuance to the topic as to when and when not I think it is acceptable, I try to be a bit more critical as to when and when not I do it.

(If they are the final Survivor, and they are near a hook, I will just hook them. Im not for prolonging the match more than intended. I will only bleed people out if they want to throw the entire match for their team because they are unhappy with something that happened. If you waste your team's time and my time then I will waste your time to put it bluntly.)

Am I a jerk for this? Should I maybe play more "fair" and treat everyone equal here? Im not too sure, I wanted to hear other people's thoughts on this.

I may or may not have body blocked a toxic Feng at the exit gates once.

    Allegedly.

Why would you punish the person getting unhooked? They have no control over what their teammates do.

Survivors are a team, other team members doing bad decisions is going to be of detriment of another member all time time.

Different kinds of mistakes punish different survivors.

If I was in that scenario, at worst I'd tunnel the crap out of the unhooker. But I wouldn't grief the player who was unhooked. I'd genuinely rather lose a kill or two if my only other option is that.

  • If this is meant to be a game that is primarily played solo, and it's meant to be a fun party game instead of being hyper competitive, then the devs should take a sledgehammer to the worst offenders and then balance the game around what's left. Having a core component of the killer's arsenal being the ability to guarantee the death of the first survivor they find is bad design if the game is meant to be light hearted fun.

    @Emeal said:

Sure but look at the other side of tunneling.

    1. It helps a Killer punish an unhooking done right next to the Killer.
    2. it helps a Killer get a quick down in places they would not.

I would not call it a flaw, rather a tool which Killers can use.

Why would you punish the person getting unhooked? They have no control over what their teammates do.

I know how you feel. I just played against a Dwight in his first ever match. With my main killer! That guy did not know how to loop, he messed up quite a few skill checks and tried hiding as soon as he thought I couldn't see him. He was so precious.

Never the less it's not ok that this poor soul got matched with me. I'm most definitely not a super high MMR player but I am more than capable of competing against players with 3k hours and more (in general).

I'm ok with facing 1 group of baby survivors or a baby killer every now and then but it's been so many since the update that I suspect something seriously broke regarding match making.

Good on you for not brutalising the poor dude. Hopefully he still had a good match and learned something.

Those Hags are still available if anyone wants them.

  • @Eleghost said:

I don't know what or if the MMR actually works, I consistently see p100s in my killer lobbies though i kill a lot but in survivor i see p1-30s rarely p100s and the survivors play like they have no idea what's going on.

I'll trade you three baby survivors for one P100 survivor. I'll even throw in the excess of Hags that I seem to encounter, free of charge!

  • Thank God the Doctor is dead. The Skunk Merchandiser needed some company in the trash can. Now all I have to do is build an extension big enough to fit Hag and Larry in there too lmao

  • Are you playing late at night? That's when most of the casuals have logged off.

I'm really starting to think that something has gone horribly wrong with the matchmaking. I've played for about 2 years and I've never seen it this bad before. I played a bunch of matches last night and did well, so I was getting matched with good survivors. I try and play today and it's back to three baby survivors. I'm talking about survivor who don't know how skill checks work, or how to drop a pallet.

It feels like if I want a good match, I have to wait until really late at night, when all the baby survivors are asleep.

Franklin is the only thing killers have to counter some powerful survivor items.

STBFL and Sloppy only work on M1-killers, who are usually weak to begin with.

NOED is a weak perk. If you lose to the killer running it, that's purely a skill issue.

Knock Out is garbage, it needs a buff if anything.

NOED is probably the only perk in the game that can secure kills for a killer that hasn't got a single hook all match. Survivors don't know it's there until someone goes down. Depending on the circumstances, killers can also hook next to the totem to guarantee at least 1K. Who is prepared for a NOED Nurse that runs faster than survivors? Sometimes killers can just cheese wins with the perk. It's not always a skill issue if you lose to it.

  • @Pulsar said:

Hey wow, someone who thinks Calm Spirit isn't a throwing perk.

  • @Eleghost said:

Does MMR exist? i feel as though survivor i escape maybe 10-20% of games maybe less and the statistic does carry over to killer where i conistently 3-4k 80-90% of the time. I see the same players when playing killer and survivor so how does mmr even work in general?

I have no idea really. I think outside of SWF, survivor is just pretty rough. Honestly after 500 hours of solo queue, I'm close to just finding a SWF. I can't be bothered to coordinate with people, but it's gotta be better than the solo queue experience.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

It's really hard to tell where you are with MMR in solo queue. Generally speaking, at least one person in that lobby is a backfill, and that throws everything off.

As far as increasing your MMR, there are ways to do it in solo queue. The order in which you die does matter AFAIK. Dying last will lose you less MMR than dying first. Match length also affects MMR gain. The max you can gain is +20 on a 4 man escape in a 10 minute match. Don't hold me to those numbers. Hatch is a draw. You don't gain or lose.

The best way to guarantee MMR gains or draws is to run a rat build. Sole Survivor+Wake Up+Left Behind. You play normally and try for the 4 man escape, but this build gives you multiple escape paths if you backfilled into a hell lobby amd everyone is dead at 4 gens. Zero or +5 is better than -10 or -20. The best play for MMR gains is the gate, obviously. But you risk No Way Out. Hatch is safest.

That being said, I've been playing that way for a long time, escape well over 50% of my games, and my lobbies in solo queue still suck half the time. I play in a 4 man SWF for hours on end and we 4 out 80% of the time. Solo queue lobbies still suck. There's really no escape.

Thanks for the tips. I genuinely thought switching from my support build to a more aggressive looping build would make things better. But even when I do well, I seem to slip back to playing against new killers. I just assume my MMR has gone down, as the baby survivor and killers are way more frequent than they were.

I wish the game would not penalise players for getting hard tunneled so much. If a killer gets mad and wants to hard tunnel you out of the game, you are kind of screwed in solo queue. If you get unhooked, eventually you are going down again (unless there is a MASSIVE skill difference). The killer is strong enough to take one survivor out of the game completely if they choose. Sure they might throw the match, but their kit allows them to do that with little resistence outside of SWF. The game shouldn't judge you as sucking because the killer decided to use the game mechanics to guarantee your death after one down.

I don't own Laurie, but I was looking for a new survivor to play, so I'll pick her up 👌

    Update:

    https://youtu.be/m4BsvnQR8CQ

Sorry, I'm on PS5, so I can't do a screenshot. I didn't even have to play like an *******. I was able to do a bit of everything during the match. I was able to rescue and heal teammates and loop the killer, but he gave up on me and went for the others.

  • Is this another bug or an intended feature?

  • @KerJuice said:

I keep going and do the best I can. Now if it’s against a killer who is downing & hooking the rest of us pretty quickly, then I may just give up on my second hook so the last person can have a chance at hatch. This is definitely the case if 4 or 5 gens are still remaining to be completed.

Last night was such a dumpster fire that I actually started running Clairvoyance. Immediately after, all totems formed a union and went on strike.

Xenomorph should be slowed down to 2.0m/s during the 3 second cooldown. If xenomorph is not getting slowed down to 2.0m/s, that's a bug.

I saw a video from a content creator that said BHVR reduced the slowdown from missing with the tail from the PTB to Live. I'm slightly unsure of the details as I haven't kept up with patch notes for the last few weeks.

  • @Frumpbeard said:

Literally any Killer in the game can just stand on the stairs to block the way. Also any Killer in the game can run Territorial Imperative to get an early warning. Huntress can sit at the bottom of the stairs with an Iridescent Head. Deathslinger can sit with Iridescent Coin and Insidious. Clown can do the same with Redhead's Pinky Finger. Knight can do the same with Knight's Contract. Twins can block the stairs with Victor running Iridescent Pendant. Hag, Nurse, Dredge, and Demogorgon can wait at a distance with Make Your Choice and teleport to the basement entrance before the rescuer can get out. And you chose the weakest Killer in the game to complain about.

I think it's fair to complain about weak characters if they are obnoxious. I doubt anyone is suggesting making the Trapper weaker overall.

  • The only issue I find with the turrets is placing them down. Sometimes you waste a ton of time desperately spinning, trying to locate the one pixel that you can put the stupid thing down on.

  • If other killers have wind up sounds to make their ranged attacks more fair, I'm not sure why Alien wouldn't have them. Especially as it doesn't get punished nearly as much for missing them.

It's not the cooldown that is an issue. It's that the Alien doesn't get slowed down as much as other killers after missing with the tail. So they can still keep up with survivors even when they make mistakes. It's strange that Alien gets a slap on the wrist for missing a ranged attack, but other killers get their teeth knocked out. It feels out of place with how the game is built.

  • Resilience feels like a perk that has always sat in a good spot. It's not bad, so it gets some use, but it's not busted, so it's not been everywhere. It feels like it's really only become more popular due to other perks becoming weaker.

  • I'm beginning to sound like a broken record on this, but BHVR really needs to release some sort of hotfix that nerfs her ability to do this. At least until her rework is ready. She would be better being weaker than she already is, instead of being able to drag matches on till players fall asleep.

My Hotfix: Limit any match with the Skunk Merchandiser to 20 minutes. If she hasn't killed you by the time 20 minutes has passed, the game ends and any alive survivors escape. Is it a perfect fix? No. Could BHVR come up with something better? Yes. Would it be better than what we have now? 100%.

Tunnelling and camping after a new killer release is standard. I always see an increase for a couple weeks. It's because most people are still learning the killer and arent very good with them, but they also still want to win so they'll use those tactics as opposed to copping some losses while they learn.

I have no clue why someone would pick a new killer and just hook camp at 5 gens. I was genuinely shocked when I saw it. They didn't even want to try out Alien's power lmao

Yeah but it's new text, so it's likely a planned nerf. I wish overpowered killer perks got as much attention as relatively okay survivor perks.

We can always be hopeful and assume someone sneezed and accidentally wrote out a coherent nerf for the perk.

  • But, you can buy Cage for 500 auric cells without the additional costume.

  • It's just a description error. The perk is confirmed to not be changed. Let's stop mourning the perk. It's not dead. It's not even injured.

  • I jumped on, played one match against Alien, they hook camped at 5 gens. I turned the game off and went to play something else lmao

  • How would the game know who was in chat? Would players not in chat get less of a penalty?

  • I don't think I've really interacted with the charms in the 400 hours I've played, more than a couple of times. I had a pride charm on David at one point, but it was detrimental to bush stealth, so it went away. I'm playing more aggressively these days, so maybe I will have a look. I think I have a bunch now.

  • I never used DH prior to the nerf, but I understand why players liked it. It not only gave you a potential health state, but it actually required a read to work in many situations. It was more interesting than alot of the perks that are simply passive by design. I wish there were other perks that worked similar to DH in function but were not related to health states. No clue what that would be though.

Playing killer is only suffering against bully squads. Those are very rare and really only encountered at the highest levels of play.

Who counts hooks? I said 50% kill rate. Considering killer plays 4 games at the same time 50% kill rate is 50% win rate (or 2 kills on average game). That can be by 6 hooks, 10 hooks, 2 hooks or even 0 hooks. Because hooks don't matter in the end.

Chess merchant is survivor's fault? Same as it was survivor's fault when best team in the world couldn't finish the game before 55 minutes? So much survivor's fault..... THAT IS MAKING survivor's games miserable btw.

You saying SWF = ######### speaks volumes about you too. And you are the one talking about bias.

Also in 1400 games - you are bound to happen to get insane team. And yet... The streak is going on....

There's a lot of things can can be debated in the game. But blaming survivors for not being able to break a three gen against the Skunk Merchandiser isn't one of them.

Yeah, I didn’t even know that was a part of the perk until a few days ago but it is pretty dang good XD

In it’s current state, it’s good enough to warrant 50% of survivors bringing it to their matches so it’s all kinda crazy these days.

Despite it being good I almost never see it. I don't think it is slept on, I think it just doesn't fit into the kind of aggressive builds survivors tend to prefer. I run it on a build with Botany, Calm Spirit and We'll Make It. It means I can safety unhook and quickly heal teammates without being detected. Effective, but not exactly swaggy.

Thank you for being so understanding! It’s really hard to find people who actually listen on this forum XD.

It’s kinda broken that tokens just build no matter what is happening.

It's fine. I sometimes forget the conditions of the perk. I keep forgetting it hides scratch marks too. It will go off and I will walk to not leave scratch marks, forgetting that I can run freely for 10 seconds lmao

  • @CarbonaraCharlie said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3526273#Comment_3526273

No, the Billy was obviously in chase with the survivor and the token was still building. The perk also doesn’t have anything in its description about being out of chase like stakeout. It just says within the killer’s terror radius for 30 seconds. Read the description in the link if you don’t believe me. (https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Distortion#:~:text=with%203%20Tokens.-,Whenever%20the%20Killer%20attempts%20to%20read%20your%20Aura%2C%20Distortion%20activates,6%2F8%2F10%20seconds.)

As a killer who uses Aura perks, it really can make an Aura perk loadout useless against the survivors who use distortion. Honestly, I don’t care if it makes my Aura perks hard to use, so be it. I just want to be able to see distortion users with my Aura perks once or twice a game. That’s it.

You might be right. I thought it only worked when outside of chase, but the description doesn't mention not being in chase. That being the case, it could be an okay nerf. I don't think it would affect it's functionality too much.

Edit: I wouldn't support increasing token recharge to 50 seconds in conjunction with the in-chase nerf. I'm referring to the in-chase nerf specifically.

  • @awustzdn said:

Yeah, that's what happens when survivors whine until all the viable killer perks are nerfed.

This doesn't sound like an experienced player having issues with OP perks. This sounds like an inexperienced player who has no idea how killer mechanics work because the game does a terrible job at explaining it, through it's mediocre tutorial system.

Also, you say this like killers aren't constantly complaining about perks. Don't punch boulders in a glass volcano.

  • Bad matchmaking is the primary reason why solo queue sucks as bad as it does. Solo queue is pretty playable if you get 4 decent teammates, even without being able to do callouts. But if you get one or two baby survivors the entire match is screwed.

So why not deal with the problems that bully squads can dish out? I made a thread a while back suggesting that killers should for instance, have basekit blind immunity after being blinded 2 or 3 times within 20 - 30 seconds (I don't remember the exact numbers, but it doesn't really matter for a hypothetical discussion). I made the same suggestion for stuns. I've even suggested that perks like Spirit Fury should be basekit.

  • @CarbonaraCharlie said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3526248#Comment_3526248

I had a look at the perk beforehand and it seemed like it still gained tokens during chase. If you want an example, watch this video and go to the 2 minute mark.

    https://youtu.be/tvwxaoyBm_s?feature=shared

I’m not trying to be one of those killer mains that needs everything to the ground. Distortion in its current state just counters Auras a bit too much so I want the token build to be slightly harder.

The perk is just like stakeout. You have to be in the killer's terror radius and not be in chase to gain a token, which takes 30 seconds. I think the only reason it is coming back is because the killer is (according to the game) losing chase during chase. The tokens will regenerate briefly in those moments, but will stop again when the game detects you are back in chase.

It's a good perk, but I don't think it's good enough to make an entire aura reading loadout useless. I'm sure there are times when the perk does more heavy lifting than other times, but sometimes you can eat two tokens in about 10 seconds. If a killer can burn through all tokens very fast, it feels too punishing to make the survivor spend 2:30 hiding in their terror radius, just to get them back.

No need to worry about how you are coming across. This seems like a perfectly acceptable discussion to me. There's nothing inherently wrong in asking for nerfs.

You're trying to compare killers being able to tell if a match is going to be potentially sweaty/bully tier SWFs with survivors being able to see what killer they are up against and their powers.

It doesnt take a PHD in game design to understand that survivors being able to see what kind of killer they are up against would allow survivors to bring direct counter perks to the killers power.

Got plague / legion? Bring mft, resi and other "while injured " perks.

    Got doctor? Bring calm spirit.

Got huntress or trickster? Bring distortion.

    Etc etc.

SWFs wouldn't run the risk of getting lobby dodged if they weren't so disgusting to play against, trying to force someone else to endure 50 chainblinds, 20 pallet stuns and 2 minutes of tbagging at gates is just peak survivor main entitlement.

Pattern recognition exists for a reason, and the killer playerbase identifies swfs and high prestige solos as potentially unfun due to horrible experiences with said groups.

You are completely missing my point. I don't want them adding that feature because it will trash the matchmaking even more.

This is my point. Making matchmaking worse should not be an option. It's the same scenario where killer players want to nerf all survivors, despite solo queue being weak as hell already. Don't fix problems by making the worst aspects of the game even worse.

There are a load of different things you could do to help alleviate the pressure bully squads can apply to a killer. I've even made suggestions as how to implement them. But matchmaking is already horrendous. BHVR should not trash it further.

  • @CarbonaraCharlie said:

    Hi BHVR,

I don’t think it should be nerfed to the ground, but I think distortion needs a slight nerf. I run a lot of aura reading perks as a killer and although I think it is fine for them to not work a lot of the time, 100% of the time is a bit overkill.

Here are the 2 things I would do to change it:

    1. Tokens don’t build up during chase anymore. Make it like stakeout where you have to be hiding within the killer’s terror radius to build tokens. (Either this or make it so it only builds stacks during chase so survivors can’t hide for the entire game)
    2. Either reduce the max tokens to 2 or increase the time it takes to get a token by 15 to 20 seconds. This would make it harder to have full tokens for the full match meaning that aura perks would actually proc sometimes.

Tokens don't build during chase. It's already like Stakeout. Did you have a look at the perk before you came to ask for nerfs for it?

It already takes 30 seconds whilst not in chase to gain a token back. So with another 20 seconds that's 50 seconds to get one token back. With the right aura loadout you can chomp through 3 tokens in about 30 seconds or so. Does that seems balanced?

Yeah, because SWFs are miserable to play against and yet BHVR refuses to balance survivors around SWFs and SWF mains insist that survivors should be balanced around solo queue, not SWF despite SWFs being game breaking.

So it would be okay if survivors could see which killer they are up against before the match, so they can dodge the killers they hate? I mean if we are okay with making matchmaking even worse, why not.

I wonder why why is evasion happening? maybe because the game is out of balance? I would remove from the game noed, hope, make thanatophobia built-in for swf with a 5% penalty for each member of squad, and adrenaline is just an accelerating perk for 3 seconds after repairing the gens. but instead killers nerf the most popular addons and hide the survs with anonymous mode. and want to hide the prestige as if it would make the game better lol.

So there is a valid complaint about lobby dodging, but it doesn't matter cos you have feelings? Thanks for telling me how hard you have it instead of acknowledging what I said.

  • If they wanted to address bleeding players out, couldn't they add unbreakable that only activates when you've been on the floor for a set amount of time?
