Survivors: JUST PRESHADAGENS
Also Survivors: But not the one I'm on, or you're tunneling me!
-
I'm sure Legion will get a rework at some point. I actually kinda like the concept in general, but more often than not I get to the end of a game and realize, "Holy crap, did I even use the power? I don't remember."๐
-
I've said before that I truly am starting to think that there's no matchmaking at all.
Last night in particular, I had very fast queues, but they were often extremely high ranked survivor groups. Sometimes I even got matched with the same group more than once. The chances of that would seem incredibly low unless they were just throwing us all into the first available lobby.

Why do survivors intentionally spite people like this? Most people should be aware that they're trying for the achievement, yet they'd rather die to EGC in the locker? They still lost the match but they just have to do the ol' "I stick my nose up at you sir."
They won't do you the consideration, but I guarantee that survive expects to be given hatch or other considerations from the killer.
Pretty much.
Survivors are constantly asking for hatch, asking why you went for a 4k, complaining that you didn't go easy on them.
But I'll be damned if they EVER show any of the same consideration. As soon as they have the upper hand it's "teabag in the exit gate for 30 seconds and then spam GGEZ in post game chat."

Killers always set the tone and pace of the match. Not the survivors, who have no control over the match at all aside from how much they work on generators -- which is their main objective. A Killer can outright deny benevolent points by camping each survivor they hook. They can deny all kinds of points by going AFK in a corner somewhere. Survivors can only react to the killer. They can't make the killer react to them.
Claudette with BT is just doing her job btw. It's absolutely fair if you go after her, and if she calls you a camper for coming back to the hook when she didn't wait, that's on her. But that she had borrowed time is perfectly fair, and you complaining about it is silly. You're being just as entitled as she is when she calls you a camper, and you complain about BT because they 'unhooked in your face'.
I'm not complaining that she did it, I'm saying that calling me a camper when it happens is silly, but that's what always happens.
if you want to run BT, fine. If you want to insta-unhook every time, fine. But don't turn around and complain that I didn't just walk away every time you did it.
And no, killers don't set the tone or pace of the match. They can't. It's entirely up to survivors to decide how a match plays out, they have the proactive role in the match. If you want to gen-rush then that's how the game will go. If you're overly altruistic then that's how the game will go. If you all hide in a bush all game, then that's how it'll go.
Killers can only react to the situations that you set up, they can't take initiative and choose what those situations are. Even if they try (By basement camping, for instance) it's 100% up to the survivors to choose if that works or not.

Weird how I never run into people calling me a tunneler/camper when playing killer. If I see someone rushing for a hook save in my face, I go after the guy who rushed. Not the guy who was on the hook due to it not being their fault. Almost like punishing the guy who unhooked before I could leave.
Weird how well that works.
Doesn't matter which you go after, people will call you a camper because you didn't just walk away whistling and pretending they're not there.
Seriously, even when I do my absolute best to move away from the hook and do something else, some Claudette with BT is hiding in a bush 5 feet away for that instant invulnerable unhook.
Survivors need to stop letting words like "camp" and "tunnel" live rent-free in their minds, or using them as quick go-to excuses. Most killers are just reacting to what survivors are doing because honestly it's the survivors that set the tone and pace of each match.
-
Because they say that about literally every killer.
Seriously. I get complaints even as Legion or Clown. When survivors get salty, they just want to blame anything that's at hand.
Just ignore them.
-
I don't even play survivor much and I think Struggle phase is silly and a pain in the arse.
Don't make people mash and mash that quickly for that long. It's just a mechanic to create frustration.
-
Honestly, it's a dick move by the killer. Should be reportable.
But the survivors can just end the game at any time, so eh.
-
Lets be honest here, NOED is fine.
Survivors just feel entitled to escape at the endgame - and have their little teabag party in the exit gate - so they find NOED offensive.
I don't even run it because I don't want to be down a perk all game, but eh.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I would give up my second chance perks if tunneling / camping would not be a such a big problem.
Except they're not big problems, they literally only happen as much as they do because of all the perks that let survivors ignore the killer.
I'm not "camping" or "tunneling" when you're running BT and instantly unhook people. Or when the unhooked guy running DS deliberately gets in my face for the next 60 seconds.
What do survivors expect us to do in those situations, just pretend you're not 5 feet away?
99% of the nonsense in this game that people complain about exists because of point-thirsty unsafe hook removals and perks that grant invulnerability when doing so. Anything that would change the paradigm here would be welcome.

Freddy is easily one of the most overrated killers in DBD, simply because he is very, VERY easy to play. Spam snares, spam fake teleports, hit. Spam snares, spam fake teleports, down. BBQ. Teleport. Pop. Spam snares, spam fake teleports, hit...
Then look at killers such as Ghostface, Hag, Huntress, Plague, Deathslinger... All of these are killers that have more potential to chase, snowball, or both. And they are also extremely, extremely difficult to play well. Ghostface and Plague are also somewhat addon-dependant (recharge and apples) and ping dependent, but still have far more potential. But these killers are far more difficult, and so people don't Git Gud at them when slappy spam-spam is sitting right there. Why get bullied trying to get better at a killer when you can do the bullying?
Then you have the top killers, Nurse Spirit, Billy... They are all far stronger, hands down. But, once again, far harder. Unless you have cash to burn on your PC, in which case Spirit takes the cake as 'easiest killer in dbd'.
Not gonna lie, I really, really wanted to love Spirit. But I'm an extremely visual person (Isn't everyone? I dunno.) and not seeing people just throws me off big time.
That and literally any game I played as Spirit, people complained about "OP KILLER #########" in post-game and I got tired of it. :D
-
Lets be honest, survivors basically want a killer that does nothing.
Example: Last night I ran Legion with no perks, no addons, and didn't use the power at all. Kinda for giggles, but also because I wanted to see if people would STILL complain.
After game chat (against a 4-man SWF of course. I got one kill) the first thing anyone says is, "First time I've ever had fun against a killer, and you didn't run a cancer build."
Yeah, of course you had fun. Heh.
-
@Anara said:
I want the survivors to remember me as the kind killer who let them go, but they know that I could have killed all of them.
In the chat, it's no more "camper" "noed" etc but just kindness. And I'm more enjoying that than the toxicity we all know.
Sure, but if the only way to avoid people acting like jackasses is to let them win - essentially not playing the game, if we're being honest - then something is REALLY wrong. It's the equivalent to the sibling/friend who you have to let win at Monopoly every time because otherwise they get pissed and throw the board across the room.
Essentially, survivors have browbeat you into not playing the game. If that's ok with you, then more power to you.

You saying that he was part of endgame chat meaning he wasn't even AFK is rough. I had a game with an AFK wraith where he just hid all game, but i decided to actually find him because i found a flashlight in a chest. He was just hiding in the corner of the map next to the gate, and the second i tried burning him out, he ran away. I tried following him, but he was too fast and i lost him in the killer shack. A minute later the last gen pops and he just opens the gate instantly and runs away. Which means that there are people who are actively watching their screen while standing cloaked staring at a wall, like #########!
It's probably better than watching the screen while running in circles around an infinite, at least. :D
-
Neither, how you play is up to you.
That said, just keep in mind that NO survivor would EVER return that favor. (As in, "Oh, everyone else escaped, I'll leave the exit gate and let the killer get me just to be nice.")
But they expect hatch every time, of course.
-
Killers will tell you he's ok.
Survivors will tell you he's OP and needs a huge nerf and is no fun to play against and is just the worst. You know, the same thing they say about every killer.

DS is simple. Just don't tunnel. Even if you do somehow still get hit by it without actually tunneling, clearly you're good enough to constantly down people constantly, so it shouldn't matter anyway.
Gen Rushing is just survivors doing the ONE thing they're told to do. Can't blame them for holding M1 because you were too busy trying to set every single trap before getting into your first chase.
Toxicity on a survivor end comes down to t-bagging and flashlight clicking. While I don't condone doing either of these things, neither of them actually affect how the killer plays. If anything, t-bagging leaves less time for the survivor to distance themselves from the killer and flashlight clicking also wastes distancing time as well as their flashlight battery.
Things like tunneling one guy off each hook till they're dead, face-camping at the start of the match, and slugging because you know you tunneled and saw that you have an obsession in the game just remove the survivor's ability to play the game and all of which can be done without the use of perks on the killer end.
While I showed a build I'd like to try but can't due to the things listed in the OP and then listed perks that each counter those specific things (being the only way it seems we can play and deal with those 4 things), you listed random perks you'd like to try (I'm honestly gonna steal that build, cause it looks kinda fun) but you think you won't be able to play the game because of "DS, 'Gen Rushing', and 'toxicity'". So you think BBQ, Nurses, Pop, and Stridor are going to help you against that. I'd honestly like to know how. I really do.
The ONLY thing that your "required" perk list counters a little bit is Pop against "Gen Rushing". But even that won't save you from having to actually go and chase survivors yourself.
TLDR: A killer can stop DS by not tunneling. A killer can stop "Gen Rushing" by applying pressure and forcing saves by hooking survivors and getting on with the next chase. A killer doesn't get affected by "toxicity" because t-bagging and flashlight clicking do not affect the killer gameplay. Survivors are REQUIRED to run perks to stand a chance against tunneling, face camping, and slugging. NOED can be countered without perks, but too much time is spent looking for totems when your potato teammates are all immersed Claudettes in the grass.
Survivors: "Don't tunnel!"
Also Survivors: "I'm thirsty for those unhook points, so I'm gonna unhook right in your face every time."
Also survivors 2: "Look! Now the killer is tunneling and camping because he had the nerve to hit me when I unhooked right in their face! I have to run BT and DS now, even though I really just hate to do it. Really don't want to, honest. But now that I'm running them, I'm gonna REALLY unhook right in your face and blame you!"
-
So now it's official.
Survivors will whine about literally EVERYTHING a killer does. Even if it's nothing at all. ๐

That's interesting actually.
Maps and balance in general are currently being worked on; we've just has a massive patch as I'm sure you know where many problematic maps were fixed, or at least made a lot less problematic (cowshed). Matchmaking, as well, is currently being worked upon.
Swf definitely is an issue but only at higher ranks; at lower ranks killers dominate the survivors, so for a newer player that shouldn't even be mentioned as an issue yet. Particularly if you're trying to get them to play with you- they're going to be part of the swf.
And about you not having all the perks unlocked yet- that's definitely very odd. I had my first survivor P3 50 all perks by ~360 hours, and my first killer shortly after. I'm now at about 1k hours, and I've got 3 survivors P3 50 all perks, 2 killers P3 50 all perks, and I'm working on my third killer. The grind definitely exists but it's not as bad as you make it out to be; I wonder why you're suffering so badly?
Overall, it sounds like you're intentionally trying to paint the game in a negative light, instead of trying to convince other people to get the game. Its less of a "Oh the game is flawed because of x y and z, but it's really fun and I enjoy h b and k" and more of a "here are all the flaws of the game with no positives to counteract it, you'd basically be wasting your money."
I want you to stop and think about the number of hours you're talking about here.
Maybe 1000 hours is nothing to you, I don't know what your life is like, but that's not some tiny amount of time.
Also, yes, low rank - completely new - killers will get matched against purple-red ranked people in groups of 4. It's not some unheard of thing, it's the norm, actually.

You know.... if killers didn't tunnel, camp or slug, then Unbreakable, Borrowed Time and Decisive Strike would basically be useless....
I think the point of the post is that if it weren't for those undesirable killer behaviors, then the "meta" perks would most likely cease to be popular or even necessary. You might have the cheeky gamers who try and waste your time with DS, or unhook right behind your back with BT, but many gamers (including myself) wouldn't feel the need to take the perks if slugging, tunnelling and camping weren't a trend among most killers.
Um...those perks all work fine regardless of whether the killer is camping or slugging. (Although DS kinda makes the killer want to slug, so then Unbreakable is great.)
Stop acting like you wouldn't run the perks that give you second chances and invulnerability if the killers were just nice guys. Like you'd just LOVE to run your special new Hope build, I'm sure. Right.

I'm about 90% sure that matchmaking literally just doesn't exist.
Devs claim that 4-man groups are like 5% of games or something, but I have to call BS on that. When I keep track it's more like 8 out of every 10 in a night. Sometimes I get the same 4-man group repeatedly in the same evening. Often all 10+ ranks above me.
Sometimes I seriously don't know if the population is really THAT low (I mean, what the hell are the chances?) or the game just doesn't care and throws you into literally the first available lobby.
-
Oh for ######### sake.
You run those perks because they're incredibly good. Almost invincibility in organized groups. Not because some killer bullied you into taking them.
-
The thing is that it's not just a stun. It's also a free health state.
It's not a counter to "tunneling" at all, it's just an invitation to be invincible - which honestly is a problem I have with a lot of the best perks: They grant the ability to play as if the killer isn't dangerous at all.
-
Survivors literally always whine.
The best is when I get a 4K and they tell me that I was camping AND tunneling. Like, wow. Apparently there's three of me out there.
I've started just playing Legion with no perks and no addons at all, because every power and every perk is "unfair" according to them. And I still get complaints from them.
-
I don't understand what you want here. Just a map full of nothing but loops where the gens are in loops and the loops are in loops and you don't have to worry about where you are at any time because it's always a loop?
-
But it's not the same as a disconnect at all.
It's entirely within the intended and allowed gameplay mechanics. It's simply poor play - and poor sportsmanship perhaps - but it's perfectly legal within the rules of the game and there's no reason it should not be.
-
It would actually be really sick if proximity chat existed, but the killer could hear it, too.
Of course, that would never happen, and groups would just run discord anyway. But still.
-
Yeah, characters are fairly cheap right now, but I still think you're better off just buying the DLC's if you can find them at a discount. Unless you plan on buying ALL the characters right now.
No point paying 250 Cells for a killer and not getting their associated survivor for just a little bit more from the DLC and then deciding a month from now that you actually wanted that survivor. :D
-
@PBsamichShoe said:
Just do what I do, when you see what looks like a 4 player SWF of tryhard red ranks in the lobby just load in first-hook-facecamping-leatherface.
Trust me.
This is funny because it's true.
Some SWF groups are SO DETERMINED for the 4-man escape that they will simply refuse to leave no matter what.
One time I was doing a tome that required me to get a sacrifice during the EGC. So I figured...what the hell, I'll just let them do gens, let them open the gate, get one hook with Bubba and let the rest leave.
Spoiler alert: They friggin' refused to leave. Even with me just standing at the hook with chainsaw revving, they refused. Ultimately the hooked one ended up dying, one died to time running out, and the other two just barely scraped by. Of course, they were all kicking and screaming about how unfair it all was in the postgame chat, even after I explained why.
-
If I feel like it, I guess?
Nothing wrong with getting the 4K if you earned it. No one is entitled to escape, and besides...I sure as hell never see a survivor at the exit gate giving me a free kill if everyone else escaped. So I don't know why they have such a persistent expectation that killers always give them the hatch.
-
There's definitely a few killers that aren't "strong" but are just obnoxious to fight.
Doctor is one with all the constant visual effects and screaming. Plague with the constant green everywhere and vomiting animations and noises. Clown it's hard to say since I never see Clown!

The only change Freddy needs is for the snares to be reworked. You can't balance a braindead easy power like that because if you nerf it, then it becomes too weak.
Pretty much. Yes, it feels smooth as hell to be able to just lay traps quickly without compromising vision or speed, but it's probably not really fair, either.
I suppose the dev intent is that it's balanced by only affecting sleeping people. Which is fine for really good survivor players, but newer/worse players are basically perma-sleeped until I hook them. It's just one of those things that's a huge pubstomper.

I checked the whole thread and nobody hasn't said Freddy's teleport/teleport faking is mindless. Actually, I have said in this thread that the MORE SKILLED Freddys use teleport faking and others do the mindless SNARE spamming. So I hope this cleared some things for you.
The point is that I hear a lot of people saying that Freddy is "mindless" overall. So I'm wondering - if he's considered mindless and boring or whatever else - what's the bar for that? It would seem like at least half the cast is even simpler.
-
Why does it NEED to open faster?
If the game gets to that point, it means you failed miserably. The chance of a hatch escape is just that, a chance that maybe you'll catch a break after your team failed in every other way. You're not entitled to it any more than the killer is entitled to the 4k. (Even though they clearly have done their job better than the survivor team.)
-
Both.
Good SWF groups just make a mockery of killers.
Solo pub groups get steamrolled by killers.
There's no real middle ground and it'll never change.
-
I basically play one game a night now because it's just this every time anyway.
Queue up, get SWF groups as high as rank 1, get rolled, call it a day because why even bother. That's not fun at all.
-

Yep.
What's funny is just how long the match will go on if I do this. Like they simply CANNOT bring themselves to just leave, even if the timer ticks down to the last second. They just NEED to get that little teabag-click-click fest in, and if I don't oblige they don't know what to do with themselves.

Honest question, how do other killers make you feel, then?
If - for example - using Freddy's teleport mindgames put you to sleep, then how do you play killers that are mostly M1 killers, for example?
Because really, I hear this a lot, but like I said earlier I feel like I do a lot more thinking with Freddy than with most other killers. Barring outliers like Nurse which take a lot of practice.
I'm not saying he's not strong, because he definitely is. But I don't understand the whole "I fall asleep" part when most other killers are just as - or even more - basic in their gameplay and design.

"Just use more perk slots 8head"
Yes, survivors can prevent themselves from going down early but they are always caught eventually. Using perk slots to get info swf has for free is flawed for obvious reasons. Survivors are not entitled to escape, but they should get a chance to do so. Doing totems isn't the only way to counter NOED.
"Why should one of us have to use a certain perk to counter something?" asks the survivors while complaining about a killer who played most of the match down a perk if they used NOED.
-
(Psst! People don't complain about survivor perks as much because it's survivors who do most of the complaining.)
What? Who said that? I didn't hear anything.

Well guess what? In all of the games that I see a killer camping, he's doing it simply because he WANTS to. I'll be working on a gen, they'll have Kindred and he'll just be slapping them on a hook constantly. Seems like griefing to me. Sometimes I'll be the one to run a killer for too long, and he'll be slapping me on a hook constantly. While I'd rather either be unhooked to work on gens, or get back into another chase. Sitting on the hook is boring, and you're not being able to play the game. The killer is forcing you to be unable to play the game from the moment you're unhooked. I'd personally rather have one hook deaths with the upside of being able to lose the killer in a chase easier and I have suggested as such. People don't seem to like that idea. I wonder if it has something to do with the killer enjoying making someone miserable. I mean that would make killers a ton stronger, and I always see people asking for killer buffs. That would be a big buff to killers and a slight buff to survivors. I can't IMAGINE why they wouldn't want that.
Again, you're not being griefed just because the killer is playing dumb.
Yes, it sucks to be the first to die, but you got caught. Suck it up and just move to the next match. And if you're about to say, "But I'm SWF, so I can't just queue again!" then what the hell were your friends doing all that time?
-
Honestly - as someone who plays killers more than survivors - I find Mori's to be kind of dumb to begin with.
Not even sure what the mechanic is supposed to bring to the gameplay. Just a faster match? Not terribly interesting.

Look at my comment without inserting context. It is a fact.
I guess we're going to just disagree on the definition of the word fact then.
You're not being griefed just because a killer killed you. Dying isn't the same as "being prevented from playing", you just lost.
Move on and stop thinking you're entitled to the killer playing the way you want them to.
-
Adrenaline is interesting, because I rarely see it on just one survivor at a time. It always seems to be on all four, or none at all.
Probably because it's a group using it just as you described, I guess.

The killer not allowing you to play the game is griefing.
You are playing the game. Being on a hook is part of the game. It's not fun? Well, neither is holding M1 at a generator, or running the same loop 50 times as a killer sometimes.
Don't like it? Well, sorry, I can't help you there. It's not "griefing" just because you don't like it.
