  • I see more survivors hanging around the gates just in case they’re needed one last time than to teabag the killer.

Again,, you are not understanding my post.

The incentives must create a better chance at victory than Camping or Tunneling.

I comprehend your point, hon, and I find it disagreeable. Folks here need to abandon the idea that a person not agreeing with them means the person doesn’t get it. I understand exactly what you’re saying. I just think you’re completely wrong. Lol. You want killers to be buffed b/c you think that’ll disincentivize tunneling/camping but buffing killers in anyway won’t stop camping or tunneling. When killers were at their strongest they still did both—way more easily. So buffing them? Yeah. It’s a bad idea. It’s a bad point.

  • My point stands. Nothing you’ve suggested would stop tunneling or camping. Buffing killers, incentivizing hooking, none of that is gonna stop a killer from tunneling b/c that’s still, in all of your scenarios, the most optimal path to victory (creating a 3v1 ASAP). And it says nothing about people who tunnel and camp just to frustrate others.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Want to get rid of Camping?

Remove the hex portion of Devour Hope so it can not be removed.

    Get rid of Tunneling?

Bring back gen regression and add perks that give the Killer a better chance to win by spreading hooks.

Problem is, Survivors are going to be unhappy with any solution, because any viable solution has to give Killers the same or better odds of success in order to get them to purse those options.

The general player base is not going to intentionally play "badly" (i.e. lower their odds of accomplishing their goal).

When the gen regression META was most powerful killers still tunneled and camped. A lot easier, in fact.

He claims that if regression meta was still a thing then killers wouldn't tunnel. But he forgets that we were around during it and there was still a lot of tunneling and camping still.

The argument is always “if survivors didn’t have/do X, killers wouldn’t camp or tunnel.” And every time BHVR gives in eliminating X, killers still, somehow, miraculously, camp and tunnel. 🤷‍♀️

It's meant to be a joke. Tunneling gens and people out of the game are equally weighted actions that make you play more efficiently.

You didn’t mean that as a joke. You were dead ass serious. If any part of that comment was a joke, it was your conviction. Misplaced, hon.

The game would be healthier without it honestly. Balancing would be better for both sides.

Now I don't expect it to happen because it's already in the game and people will quit because they can't play with their friends which is somewhat understandable.

I can’t think of a single game out there that doesn’t allow players to play with friends. And even if DBD tried doing that, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo do allow friends to queue up together & DBD cannot circumvent this. They tried it with the anonymous mode and got into trouble with those companies b/c DBD settings cannot overwrite console settings.

I generally have fun in a full SWF.

Solo queue consistently makes me want to uninstall. I don't care if the killer is the sweatiest tryhard killer alive. I'm a tryhard survivor. All I ask is that the game gives me teammates with a similar playstyle to mine.

Maybe with solo you could try carrying the team? As BHVR intended.

Killers camp and tunnel because survivors tunnel out generators. Removing gen defense perks made it worse because killers lost a huge amount of control in the game.

You cant ask for killers to not tunnel until survivors cant either.

What the hell is ‘tunnel out generators’? Someone explain what this means. I’m sure this person will have some weird-ass response I just don’t get. Lol. @Pulsar ? You’ve been here a while. Tell me

  • @I_CAME said:

Solo is completely unplayable. I was tunneled for four gens in a game today by a Nemesis. Generally my first thought when I get tunneled is "good" because I have thousands of hours of survivor experience and I bring strong perks to make it harder. It's preferable that I get tunneled instead of my teammates who last 20 seconds in chase. What does my team do during this ridiculously long tunnel? They run around cleansing totems and then just stop doing gens entirely. Eventually the entire team starts trying to bodyblock for me. What is this supposed to accomplish? The killer will eventually catch me regardless of how much you bodyblock. I don't know why so many survivors don't understand how to play around a tunneling killer. Just do the gens so we all have the chance of getting out. It goes without saying that I eventually died. I can overcome mediocre killers who are trying to tunnel me. What I can't overcome is tunneling killers AND teammates who are useless. It's so frustrating to see an easy four man out turned into a 4K because of your teammates.

Are we the same player? At least, it sounds like we both have a similar MMR that puts us in these weird scenarios where we can run the killer for all the gens, but our teammates have anti-game sense. This is actually the thing that caused me to stop playing solo queue 3 weeks ago: getting tunneled and teammates somehow failing to do the last gen between 3 of them in a 2 minute chase (Oni's entire power plus some). They started the last gen when I finally went down. I'm done with it.

It's frustrating to read these threads every day and get complete radio silence about it on the other end. Why is this happening so often? Are there plans to fix it? Are there plans to give us more matchmaking transparency in game so we can give better feedback? The most we ever get is "backfills", which...ok, what are you doing to fix that then?

My solo queue experiences are the same. And the response here is always like…

Something something, SWF OP, something, tunneling + camping valid strategies, something not responsible for your fun. Oh something but what about teh killerz.

If it wasn't intended to make killers upset, survivors wouldn't do it.

The ongoing argument of "killers shouldn't get upset over a simple crouch/tbag" is tiresome. If it shouldn't affect killer, there is no reason for survivor to do it.

Oh that's right..it is done to make killers angry and then survivors come here and pretend they can't possibly understand why it's upsetting..but continue to do it, because they know......exactly what message they are conveying, whilst doing it.

I mean they aren’t really analogous (teabagging/pointing and camping/tunneling) because two are annoying but the others technically prevent game play. But I understand that your point is both are frustrating to experience.

It's hardly a failed experiment when it was a test on experimental changes they stated they plan to add to the game during the Chapter 6 anniversary stream that they said weren't ready to go live with.

And yes it prevents killers from just slugging the last guy forcing them to bleed out for 4 minutes which is the same thing when the last survivor could just stay on hook for 2 minutes out of spite.

It was an experiment. There was neither pledge nor promise from any dev that it or any other anti-slugging measure would be added to the game, at any time. You know that.

  • @Crowman said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3427836#Comment_3427836

The PTB test for the mori system when there are no more survivors up is addressing it. Now the PTB had it's own share of issues, but the idea that the game ends once all survivors are dead, hooked, or in dying state at least addressed the ability for killers to needlessly extend the game by forcing bleed outs.

Oh. I didn’t realize you meant the idea they scrapped (basekit Unbreakable). Why would you say that’s something that shows an interest in circumventing 4-minute bleedouts? They could easily achieve that in a number of realistic, non-invasive ways. And I can’t agree that a failed PTB experiment shows any commitment or interest to resolving slugging.

  • @I_CAME said:

It's crazy how so many people don't want this game to be fair at all. Just delete exit gates and the hatch while you're at it. Killer wins every time and the challenge is to see how long you can survive.

Well they want a murder simulator. But what’s weird is that they aren’t just playing custom matches with bots whom they can select perks for. It’s like these killer mains want a murder simulator but against real people.

  • @Crowman said:

It was added to prevent survivors from unnecessarily keeping the game from ending by just not letting themselves die on hook and forcing the full 2 minute wait.

Before someone mentions 4 minute bleedouts, it's clear the devs want to address that too with the ptb test about half a year ago.

I don't see a reason to change this on niche situation like yours.

The devs want to address the 4-minute bleedout?

When you state something is good in a video game and you mean against not decent players, then you have to specify that. That really is just common sense.

Also I don't think many people in these forums agree with you about the general perception of killers compared to blight and nurse. You'd be hard pressed to find more than a few people calling huntress and wesker weak and if you did, they would be laughed out of the post.

My statement was direct and clear. Wraith is good against low to average-skilled players, and can hold his own against higher-skilled players as well.

Players do call Huntress (and Wesker; it was like the topic for weeks after his release, after his nerf, after his etc) weak. You seem to be living in some sort of alternate realm where Nurse & Blight aren’t perceived as the litmus for a killer’s strength.

  • @Krazzik said:

Boil Over needs an entire rework. Wiggling out without help from your teammates should not be a thing, the game isn't balanced around it.

As said earlier in the thread, you pretty much HAVE to play in a scummy way to get value out of it by running to an unhookable spot and that's clearly not something that should even be a thing.

I've seen squads bring Badham offering and Basement-in-Killer-Shack offering and just running to main building's basement whenever the killer was nearby. Coupled with No Mither there's no way of dealing with them except standing over them and downing them every single time they pick themselves up. Oh, and they had Soul Guard so they had endurance each time too.

It doesn’t need to be altered in anyway that weakens it, because it was recently nerfed with the wiggle escape mechanic change. I haven’t seen someone escape with Boil Over since before then. I’ve tested it myself and it seems that unless you’re incredibly lucky with hook spawns you won’t escape with it alone. As killer I’ve noticed it doesn’t really affect sway like it once did. But I get that the impetus for many killer mains is to ensure survivors have 0 utility with their perks.

  • “…was it really a skilled play?”

Because the last one they had the devs, one in particular, made several comments confirming what the community already believed about them and there was massive backlash. Since then, we haven’t really gotten any.

Was that the one with the guy who said looping for 5 gens but dying means you suck at the game?

  • @Brimp said:

Well nuking gen regression while not changed any other exhaustion or how maps play in general will do that because despite 90 second gens they still are extremely fast.

Gen regression was needed alongside healing b/c killers could efficiently camp 1 survivor and with full Gen slowdown survivors might complete 1-2 gens. Then lose. There’s no way they could nerfed healing but leave Gen regression in tact. It would blow up the kill rate.

  • @Nazzzak said:

Yeah but how can anyone be expected to make balance decisions around something they have no control over?

You can't balance soloq against swf you can only balance killers vs survivors. There is no balance decision to be made about people doing callouts in a discord. Hence my saying that CoH affects swfs and soloq equally as you're both survivors and more the to the point you're not playing against them killers are. They could buff or nerf everything in this game to insane degrees and ultimately it still function that much better for a coordinated team talking to each other. Soloq survivors need to develop macro around picking up on what their current teammates are doing and act accordingly.

It can be done, people do it in other games all the time. Dbd's not that out of step with other games. It takes more work, but it can be done. Having the absolute onslaught of constant on-demand self-healing while fun and funny was insanely bad design to the point I honestly think it made players overall worse at the game, myself included. I got used to just doing dumb things and less observant because I knew I could just go rub bone and get all the healing I needed with no input from my team. That's not good.

What’s another assym game where solo players who are grouped as a team must practice a healing macro to restore themselves? I’m just curious b/c you said players do it in other games all the time.

  • They were kill switched because their glitches adversely affected their own gameplay. The point is that bugs that harm killers in some way are swiftly killswitched (rightfully) but those that harm survivors usually aren’t. And like it or not, that’s a trend.

  • The general attitude of killer mains in these forums is that if a killer isn’t on par with Nurse or Blight, they’re weak. Wraith is good, exceptionally so against low to mid-tier survivors (which is where most survivor players fall). But he isn’t super competitive against exceptionally skilled survivors nor should he be. Because they’re exceptionally skilled.

  • I don’t personally see Trapper enough to have an opinion one way or another, but per the stats Trapper, as the weakest killer, still manages a 2-3K average b/c his kill rate is around 53%. He’s winning or drawing more matches than he loses. Frankly, I don’t think any killer needs to be buffed right now. They’re doing exceptionally well as an aggregate.

  • @squbax said:

It really depends, if you play against the average solo Q team which literally do not even know how to chain tiles, maybe even trapper without traps and no perks can look good, however if we talk about players that actually know whats going on id say about 3-5 killers should actually be able to keep up.

Yeah, but most survivors are solo queue players who aren’t skilled. Lol. I do think around 3-5 killers are good for the highest tier of survivors but every killer is good against where most of the survivor playerbase falls (low to mid skill).

  • @Shroompy said:

Now that's something we can agree on. To really 'solve' (if that is even possible) these issues they have to make some drastic changes to the game. They could try to add some reward for spreading hooks and also add base DS for a PTB to test it. They added 10 extra seconds to the gens but then nerfed the best slow down perks and now we're in kind of a weird spot, where games either end so fast the killer is physically unable to do anything or the killer could potentially hold the game forever (at least for me).

I don’t really like the idea of basekit DS but I guess if it buys a player a little more playtime it isn’t all bad.

Base BT is pretty much a guaranteed escape in end game. I remember that was an issue with DS before its nerf. The perk BT is also great but it's mostly power creeped by OTR, so of course you don't see it anymore.

Coup De Grâce is an incredibly gimmicky (not to say bad) perk. It has exactly 5 tokens at best that will be consumed by any lunge, no matter if you want it or not. It also would not help you get that hit to down the survivor again. STBFL on the other hand would do that, but then again the math still favors the survivor here. Hit them and they make enough distance to get out anyway. Hitting the unhooker works without STBFL as well but it's not exactly rocket science to force a hit and have another survivor unhook before proceeding to bodyblock. Saying that base BT doesn't help is the same as claiming that 6.1.0 didn't help killers at all. Both are obviously wrong.

My point is that the devs do NOT ignore survivor issues. This mentality reminds me of a dementia patient introducing themself every 2 minutes. Because just like them there are some people, that completely forget what BHVR did over last months. If anything they fixed more of these issues over the last year than they did in the to 2 years before combined. Do I personally want to see them do something about tunneling and camping? Yes and I've never said otherwise. But simply punishing these strategies is not the way to go. Instead, how about we address why killers tunnel in the first place? Not all of us are comp players that only care about winning or easy games. Some of us simply don't see any other way to compete with survivors that end games in about 4 minutes.

No one really thinks the devs of this game ignore survivor issues. But it’s important to note that the survivor issues addressed are done as a balancing afterthought to prevent too many people from abandoning the role. Killers received quite a few buffs in 6.0 and some were only dialed back b/c the queue times for killers rose quite a bit as fewer people came in as survivor (i.e. Eruption’s nerf). And the core issues that survivors have come down to camping + tunneling. Anything else is an offshoot of those two things, which have not been addressed. Tbh there’s really no way to solve those problems without altering game mechanics. Perks aren’t enough. BP incentives aren’t enough. Increasing survivor objective times aren’t enough. All of those things have been implemented yet failed to discourage camping and/or tunneling. It’s gonna take something extreme.

  • Aren’t the top three killers right now Sadako, Wesker, and Blight? At least numbers-wise.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3423574#Comment_3423574

BT isn't good. You're right about that because it was good before. Now it's great! Not only are you protected for 10 seconds, you also have extra 10% speed for the cost of absolutely nothing. That is insane. In end game this guarantess you'll make it 44 metres far with nothing a killer can do, which is basically a free escape.

New 6 blink Nurse is not as strong as old Range + Recharge Nurse was. Also her blink attacks are now special attacks, which completely negates the threat of insta downs from her. Was it enough? Probably not. Was it a good nerf nonetheless? Definitely.

Reassurance is still a crazy good perk. 30 extra seconds is a lot. A survivor does not need to have unlimited time on a hook. That's simply not how the game works.

Tbh I don’t see anyone run BT. The basekit haste/endurance survivors have after an unhook doesn’t discourage or stop tunneling. And yes it should help survivors escape from a killer—at any point in the trial. You aren’t owed a kill b/c you got a survivor on the hook after gates are up. Lol. Go after the unhooker and run Coup De Grace or STBL or some other perk that helps with lunge distance & speed. I won’t address the rest because you make me tired.

  • @Xernoton said:

Ok... Let's have a look on what happened in the past 12 months for survivors, shall we?

    1) Base kit BT.

    2) Ruin + Undying gutted.

    3) Reassurance added to the game.

    4) Nurse nerf. No more Range + Recharge.

    5) New HUD.

    6) Visual TR.

Clearly the devs must be killer sided!

Basekit BT isn’t good. Nurse is back to 6 blinks with her add-ons. The visual terror radius doesn’t affect survivorship anymore than the audible terror radius. Reassurance could have been OK if the original version had made it to live. But remember it was neutered b/c killers complained it would prohibit justified camping. The red herring was that it would somehow allow survivors to trap each other on hook, which is a very silly argument. You could have done better. Do better next time.

it's not exactly big brain thinking 99% SB then running everywhere is it? again that is nothing compared to having to time dead hard right.

The problem with 99’ing SB is that you can’t do anything but run around & try baiting the killer with it. You can’t heal teammates, you can’t save teammates, you can’t complete gens. All you can do that’s productive is waste the killer’s time and that’s assuming they pursue you. It’s not as strategic as DH.

DS would work indefinitely as long as the gates aren’t powered, and you’re at death hook. The gen cooldown is to prevent survivors from abusing that ability to the fullest, which was the problem with DS. It wasn’t anti-tunnel since no one really used it to stop tunneling. They would work on gens, and body block. So how is that nerfing?

Working on gens or performing any conspicuous action deactivates DS & has for a long while. And it’s still just 3 seconds, which isn’t really enough time to escape a killer. Additionally, a killer can avoid it through tunnel/slug. So it wouldn’t even stop tunneling if it worked the way you want. It would just have more restrictions & prevent a hook death, ig. I understand you’re worried it’ll somehow be abused, but your proposed changes effectively nerf it again.

  • And yet the kill rate remains 60% 🤷‍♀️

I’ve blocked players yet seen their messages in EGC. If you turn off EGC you won’t see it from anyone but it can’t just be turned off from people you block.

almost all of them. being able to block matching together is a stupid idea.

But the point of blocking a player is to stop them from interacting with you, correct? So in DBD not only can you match with players who you’ve blocked but at least if you’re on PC they can still message you via the endgame chat. And if you’re on PlayStation, Xbox, or Wii, they can send messages to you through console unless you block them through that. And in either case they can still grief you in game. I don’t think any game besides this one allows that. it’s stupid to allow that but here we are 💅🏾 you and me.

  • @Nirgendwohin said:

Block only prevents them to send you friend requests. You can still get matched with them and still can read what they say in the chat.

Literally pointless. All the ways in which a player can grief or harass you are left in tact after a block on this game. But hey at least they can’t friend you. Lol. Does any other PvP with player blocking function this way?

  • @VikingDragonXii said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3422356#Comment_3422356

No because then people would just start blocking people they don't want to face in general making it harder for those people to even get matches. It's the same if they did a Block Certain Killers

If a single player is being blocked so often that it affects their ability to find matches in a game with thousands of players then maybe that player shouldn’t have access to other players. I know this is a Canadian-based gaming company or whatever and so it prioritizes ‘niceness’ but there’s something to be said about actual public consequence to bad behavior.

  • Well, at least you only tunnel when it’s ‘deserved.’

    oh, wait…

    lol.

  • @Seraphor said:

I definitely think indicating SWF/non-SWF post game would be beneficial. It would take a lot of second-guessing out of the equation, and therefore reduce paranoia, which may reduce the reaction to SWF, once killers realise that not all SWF are unbeatable ad not all non-SWF are potatoes. And if killers are 'compensated' in some way for facing tougher opponents, then they'll be less inclined to dodge survivors they may suspect might be SWF as well.

This reminds me of the argument that if killers just had X (see patch 6.1) they’d stop Y (camping and tunneling). It never comes to pass. Killers shouldn’t see prestige or if survivors are in any variant of SWF. Cuz even if they did it wouldn’t eliminate any toxic or maladaptive killer behaviors.

  • They need to just deactivate the ban. Hackers have manipulated it. If people quit because the killer camped or tunneled so be it. That’s really inconsequential. There’s just excuse for these outrageous bans due to hackers.

Corax, Potential Energy isn’t a good perk because of its fragility. No one really uses it beyond completing tome challenges and it’s thoroughly disliked. Why would you suggest some other perk be reworked to become that? So it’s useless and not used… just like Potential Energy.

I definitely prefer the faster queue times than waiting a long time for near-perfect matchmaking. Besides, the loose matchmaking makes the game feel more random and fun in my opinion than feeling like I'm in a ranked comp match. The way MMR works kind of plays into this since kills and escapes aren't really a good indicator of skill in this game, especially with the softcap.

It’s good you’ve made peace with the way things are. But personally, I’d accept longer wait times if it meant the trials were more evenly matched. I don’t exactly enjoy dominating as killer or flailing as a solo queue survivor.
