  • Once you get used that you dont get the hits anymore that you should not have gotten in the first place, it will be fine.

Might've been planned from the start, but it goes without saying the game wasn't made for team with mics. Of course it was planned. Why wouldn't they make that very obvious choice to let you play with friends.. Was the game balanced around it though. No. It wasn't. Hence the (balanced) game wasn't made with SWF in mind.

Yeah, but the impact of Voice Communication is pretty overrated. Most SWFs dont talk to each other like some Special OPs-Teams or how you may see it in tournaments. Most of the time it is usual communication.

The main strength of SWFs is that you can filter out the bad players. You reduce the RNG you get with your teammates. E.g. when I play Solo and I get chased, I dont want to see 3 people doing nothing. So I play basically only with a friend and then I know that at least one person will do a Gen while I am being chased.

Sometimes we play as a 3man-SWF when my friend brings a streamer he knows. That streamer is not in our Discord, mainly because they are streaming. And if this happens, we escape more games. Why? Because he is a really good player. Not because we can talk to each other.

I can guarantee you, if you put the same 4 people with Voice Communication in a game without Voice Communication, the result will be roughly the same (in regular public matches). Because you dont suddenly forget how to play when you are not in Discord. And the other way around is true as well - someone who is bad will not suddenly turn out godlike when they are in DIscord.

Anything that increases win odds by using external software could be considered "cheating" .

Even if devs have given comms a "special treatment" by removing it from the "no external software" rule, it is absolutely an advantage against the killer that the survivors were not supposed to have. Advantage that the game was not built to support. If DBD had Voice Chat , than yes it would not be cheating in the slightest.

Were killers balanced against comms ? No, because there are no comms in the game.

As stated above : the majority of trials are made up of solo queue (56%), duos make up approximately 40%.

Which means that swf teams of four with chat on are a very small minority. One that gives devs reason not to balance against. One that uses software to up their chances. So no reason for killers not to be balanced against that.

The basekit that can be given the killers with a special condition :

If survivor team consists of a pre-made group of 4 friends , the killer will see an aura of a random survivor every 40s for 2s.

Since survivors broadcast everything to each other , the killer can be given a bit of that info too. No arguments against something like this.

You really overestimate the impact of Voice Comms in this game.

  • @Beatricks said:

    No.

The developers have already abandoned any semblance of balancing this game. If you don't allow the chill Pigs to dodge the sweat lords, you'll just have more AFK killers and then we all lose.

    Matchmaking doesn't work.

Not because of lobby dodging, or playerbase. It's a laughably bad algorithm that would get you an F during your first year of college in software development because it takes nothing into consideration but kills/escapes and even then the matchmaking net has been widened so much that even with zero lobby dodging, you'll have people that just installed the game versing Nurse mains that have not lost a match in 10.000 games.

The funny thing is that not the chill Killer players are cherrypicking their Lobbies.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/386522/what-is-the-official-balance-for-killers-against-players-using-external-apps-for-comms

When DBD was first made, it wasn't made with the idea of all 4 people being able to team up 'vocally' in mind... It just became a feature later on. SWF is a huge advantage over Solo so I'd like to see some sort of disadvantage down the line even if its minor.

Whenever this comes up I facepalm myself.

The Devs said in a Livestream looong ago that SWF was planned from the start. And that they only had time to implement either KYF (now Custom Games) or SWF when the game first launched. They went with KYF and shortly later (like a month?) they implemented SWF. Do you really think it takes only a month to create a feature like this?

Furthermore - do you really think that in 2016 a game where one side plays as a team would come without a feature where friends can play together? Or that it is not known that those friends will communicate? Neither Multiplayer-games nor Communication Tools were brand-new things in 2016.

  • Personally:

Reducing the timer to 45 seconds --> Yes.

Not allowing to leave the Lobby when it reaches 15 seconds --> Nah. The main reason for this is, players would just quit out of the game at this point. Which would waste even more time for the rest, because either they will need to wait again OR, even worse, the game will try to load and then be abandoned in the Loading Screen (depending how it is implemented). I think reducing it to 45 seconds should be enough to speed it up a bit, but not allowing players to leave the Lobby will not really change anything.

Not showing Names etc of Survivors --> Yes. Should have been the case long ago. There is 0 reason gameplay-wise why the Killer should get the information and see names, profiles or prestige Levels.

Regarding a Penalty - if those 2 points (except for not allowing to leave the Lobby) are implemented, a penalty is not really needed, because the cherrypicking not happen as often if the Killer does not get any information about the player behind the Survivor anymore.

However, if they dont want to implement anything, a penalty would make sense. There is so much cherrypicking going on from Killers, it is not even funny anymore. And it really messes up Matchmaking, because instead of a more suitable Killer for the Survivor-Lobby, the 200 hour Clown-player is suddenly backfilled into a Lobby where they should not be. And only because a Killer-player cannot stand the fact that the Survivors have almost as many hours as themselves...

Yeah I know but What I'm trying to say is that this really hurts people with bad internet

As hard this might sound, then dont play Onlinegames if you cannot guarantee a stable internet connection. The 4 other players in your game dont really care if you DC because you ragequit or because your connection is poor, for them, the result is the same.

And if you keep going and going, even if you know that your internet is not stable enough for online-gaming, then the penalty is really justified.

  • @dbdcolonsteamer said:

All you need is to make the PT team visible in the lobby.

If Killer accept it and start matching, you cannot criticize using external apps for communications.

If you don't like it, leave and find a new match.

Yeah, this would only mean that Killers would lobbydodge until they get Solos. Which still does not mean that they have a better chance, 4 good Solos are on the same level as 4 good players in a SWF, it is just more rare to find 4 good Solos.

But Killers are already cherrypicking their Lobby (No Items, no high prestige, no flashy clothes, no SWF when profile is visible, not TTVs..)... Lets not give them more reasons to dodge instead of playing the game.

Or, do this and put in a penalty for dodging. This would be fair. If they want to cherrypick, they at least have to wait a bit each time.

  • If you DC one time the penatly is 5 minutes. Second time it is 15 minutes. Then I THINK it is 30 minutes.

To have 10 hours (if this is even a ban, I dont know, never reached this point), you have DCed more than one time.

  • Yes, it is in the Patch Notes:

    • Fixed an issue that caused the fast Vaults to have the same vaulting distance as the Slow and Medium Vaults.

Will take some time for Killers to get used to not getting the hits they should not have gotten in the first place. But they will spend their time complaining until this point is reached. Business as usual.

  • They should buff Maps, yes. But they also should remove Stuff. E.g. there is no reason to have the Green Map where you have to equip Add Ons to actually track more than Gens.

Would be nice if Maps would be more viable. But their scenarios are very, very niche, unless a Tome Challenge requires me to cleans a bunch of Totems, I dont bother with Maps because there is not really a point in using them.

  • It is a Silo which fell over.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/386540/ruin-rework-time

i mean, it doesn't really NEED a rework. all it needs is just to revert the nerf where it disables itself whenever 1 survivor dies. to me, thats a really weird thing to add to a perk that only needed to have its percentage nerfed as that was the real problem.

just revert that and keep the max regression at 100%, and it should be fine.

If this would be done, the Perk would be just as bad and not used. How often does it happen anyway that Ruin is still up when a Survivor is dead? And even if a Survivor dies really early, the Killer probably does not need Ruin anyway at this point.

The main reason why the Perk is bad is the Regression. Disabling when someone dies is totally fine and makes the game less miserable for Survivors if someone dies early.

But 100% Regression is simply not enough to warrant a Perk Slot.

  • Always a clear sign that people dont have a clue when they really think that Comms is what makes SWF stronger than Solos.

Bonus if they actually think using Comms is cheating.

  • Yeah, Ghostfaces Reveal Mechanic has always been wonky. Sometimes you cannot reveal him despite nothing blocking him and looking at him. And sometimes you just glimpse in his direction, you dont even really see him, but he pops up in your PoV and you start to reveal him, giving away your location.

Doesn't she have the worst killrate in the game? Wouldn't that mean your more likely to get a Nurse who accidentally teleports to basement than one who seemingly reads your mind and counters everything you can think of?

I am a big fan of people who deny everytime that the stats they see might be correct but go "NuRsE HaS ThE LoWeSt kIlLrAtE In tHe gAmE"...

Yes, she has the lowest Killrate in the game. She is also one of the few Killers which is free to pick. And also her learning curve is quite steep. But once you learn her (which is really not THAT difficult), you will win most of your games.

  • While the stats from the Devs cover a huge portion where MFT was not released, Nightlight is a pretty bad site for this. Because it only uses Data which are submitted, so people can easily not submit games without MFT.

  • If you want to claim that Survivors are too strong, showing a game where you play one of the weakest Killer against 2 BNPs and get a 3K is not really helping your point.

  • I dont really miss it. I would be happy if they delete Boons so that I dont have to be annoyed by my teammates who spend 16 seconds on a dumb Totem without any real use instead of getting to work on a Gen.

  • I mean, one of the roles really cannot chase the Survivors and is mainly for information. I dont know if they did any changes to the Cook, but from the Early Access, it heavily relies on Voice Comms since your role is to lure the other two to Survivors.

And this is something which only works with Voice Communication and if that is the case, the game will not really have a bright future. Not everyone wants to use Voice Comms to communicate with others.

And furthermore, it makes the game a bit harder to use for STreamers. Streamers cannot risk that there is some "funny" guy who shouts the N-Word into their Twitch-Stream.

  • @tippy2k2 said:

I feel like they've done that before but for whatever reason reverted back to the player needing to finish the gen for it to "count".

No idea why it was changed (unless I just made it up, which is certainly possible but I swear the Halloween Event has it give it to you when gens were done period, not requiring you to do it).

It used to be even worse in the past. In the past there was one Event-Gen and one Event-Hook per default and the Offerings increased the number by 1 for each Offering. AND you had to finish an Event-Gen. So it was possible back then that you were the only person bringing an Offering and you got nothing because you did not repair the Event-Gens. Or as Killer, you brought an Offering and you cannot really use Event-Hooks because Survivors did not go down next to them.

But yeah, at some point they changed it that every Gen/Hook is event-related and that you gain BPs even when someone else repairs a Gen. I really dont know why they went back from this, there is not really any reason to do this IMO.

And it makes the event not really feel good. Yesterday I had a game where I worked on Gens, but never finished one because I was chased away. In the end, I was the only one not getting any Event-Points because I never managed to finish a Gen. Did not really feel good.

  • Confirmation bias. Nothing more. You dont think about the games where you win or even stomp as Killer. Or the games where you get actually good Survivor-Teammates. The games where you get outplayed as Killer and those where you cannot outplay the Killer because your teammates are bad - those are the ones that stick.

In reality, the Matchmaking is more random than anything. When I play, I can get one of the Top Players as Killer, someone on the Leaderboard for X Rush-Downs/Hatchet-Hits, etc... And the next game I get a 200 hour Killer who does not know if he is playing DBD or Minecraft. Same with Survivors, from the very strong Survivor-Team I face to the 7 hour Bill... Everything there.

But overall it is not true that you ONLY get teams which stomp you as Killer and are ONLY paired with Potatoes when you play Survivor.

  • I think two reasons:

    • They are afraid to rework her
    • They dont really know how to rework her and dont even understand the problems with her.

Number 1 is easy - Killers would go riot if Nurse is reworked in a way that she might not be the broken Killer she currently is. Killer Mains always claim that she should be the strongest Killer because she is sooo hard to learn and that every Nerf so far gutted her. And as we can see, the Nerfs did barely anything. It is honestly a Joke at this point that Nurse, as the strongest Killer, gets away with slaps on the wrist while other Killers get Nerfs. Like, they nerfed Clown more significant than Nurse over the years...

And second - I feel like they dont really know what are the problems and how to solve them. Because they would need to change a lot of her power to actually make it matter. You cannot just nerf Nurse and call it a day, we have seen on multiple occasions that nerfing her does not work and she will always be, without a doubt, the strongest Killer in the game. And nerfing her to an extend that she is unplayable is also not really something which should be done.

But I feel that the Devs also dont really have a good understanding when it comes to nerfing Nurse. Like, they nerfed her in a way that her Blinks dont count as basic attacks. Which is fine. So Perks like Starstruck or Sloppy Butcher dont apply to her anymore. And in the same patch they give her a Mangled Add On. And guess what? Killers almost exclusively run this Add On because it is free Slowdown. Who would have thought?

But it is mainly the first point. And IMO it is a problem that you basically cannot lose anymore when you are really good with Nurse and also that the effort to win against most teams you encounter is so low compared to other Killers. When I compare my time it took me to become decent with Nurse and the time it took me to become decent with Billy, Nurse is probably only a fraction of time...

  • @Edoma said:

She shouldn't be reworked, she should be nerfed. They can keep her the same she has always been, she just needs to pay a bigger price for it.

You cannot nerf Nurse. She can only be reworked. Because if you nerf her, she will either stay overpowered (as we see currently, she got nerfed recently and nothing has changed) OR you nerf her so hard that she really becomes useless and the weakest Killer.

And both ways (nerfing not enough or nerfing way too much) are not really the way to go.

I love how absolutely zero people complained about the perk pre nerf but they only nerfed it cause their spreadsheet said so,data is useless if they can't interpret it correctly.

If a perk is really used but no one is complaining it should be a sign to leave it alone.

The thing is, some Perks just got hit because the Dev then can say that they changed the Meta. Even if they did not really change it.

Self-Care is one of them, nobody really complained about it. At least not in a way that it should be nerfed.

  • Agreed, it should be 50% or 60%. Would still not make the Perk too strong.

That being said, Self-Care is one of the Perks which got nerfed just to reduce its pickrate... So not sure if the Devs will ever buff it again.

  • People always complaining that the Devs should fix Bugs. But if they fix a Bug which might benefit the other side, it is suddenly "unnecessary".

  • @luvcraft said:

Exactly, to both of the above responses.

So survivor actions should all reward a LOT more BP (and killer actions should reward a lot less).

Nah, you should not take BPs away for actions. But yeah, Survivors should have more BPs by default. E.g. doing a Gen solo is 1250 BPs for 90 seconds... This is 4 great Skill Checks. Or cleansing a Totem gives almost the same amount of BPs.

  • @Majin_Zabuza said:

Won't matter if crossplay is off we're both on PlayStation. And yea i understand your point people will probably overuse the system and them complain they don't find matches. Its just so frustrating going against this guy and he's the only one i keep seeing. Went against him twice in a row the other night after i waited almost 15 minutes before i started a search

I mean, you can also just answer my question. Because if you have crossplay off, you have a very limited pool of players which makes it easier to bump into the same players (since you only get matched with people who also have crossplay disabled).

Yes, when BHVR fixed Nurse's chase music volume, that was a buff. The reason the change was made can be called a bugfix, and the effect of the change is a buff.

Yes, bugfixes are making things work as intended. And buffs and nerfs are also making things work as intended. When BHVR nerfed Spirit's addons, they made her work as they currently intend for her to work. Or would you say that Spirit's addon nerfs are making her work as unintended?

Nah, the main purpose was to make those Add Ons weaker. The main purpose was not to make vaults stronger, but to make them work like they should work.

But I am fine to agree to disagree and will ignore you from now on.

  • Are you playing with crossplay off? I barely run into the same Killer or player in general multiple times in a month.

Furthermore, a blocking-feature would be abused. People would just block others who beat them. Dies to that Nurse? Block them. Lost to this 4 man SWF? Block one of them, the entire SWF will not be in your lobby again. And it 100% will happen that people block others because they lost to them.

  • Yeah, it is a shame.

I had a game today where I did not finish a single Gen. I was on Gens, but never got to finish them and got chased most of the time. In the end, I did not get any Bonus-BPs at all, so my Offering cost me more than what I actually spent for it... Did not feel too great.

The quite limited amount is also a thing. From what I have seen, every 5 Bloodwebs you get 2 Offerings and maybe an Offering in between those. But IMO if there is an event going on, all you should see are 5 Event-Offerings used. We are far from it.

Also, I randomly got a bunch of BPs. Got 64k BP after one game. And it did not even make sense:

Myself, died, 64k BP. Jake, escaped, 60k BP. Ace, died, 60k BP. Ada, died, 36k BP. And everyone used an Offering. (All Gens were done)

Bugfixes can be buffs or nerfs. If a change raises game performance, then it's a buff. If a change lowers game performance, then it's a nerf. Bugfixes is a REASON why a change can be made, and buffs or nerfs are the EFFECT of a change. Reasons and effects are not mutually exclusive.

No, Bugfixes are neither Buffs or Nerfs. Bugfixes are making things work as intended. Sure it can happen that they are stronger or weaker than before, but the main goal is to fix things, not to make them stronger or weaker.

Or would you say that Nurse got buffed after all her gamebreaking Bugs were fixed?

  • In an interview Mathieu Cote said that they were trying to get in contact with Netflix regarding Stranger Things, but so far, they did not respond.

  • Were you playing Blight by any chance? I had a game against a Blight on Eyrie this evening, they got 3 Hooks before all Gens were done.

Blight was anon, so I dont know their name.

  • If you think that T L-Walls are areas where it is "difficult to catch" Survivors, your opinion on balance is probably not really based on much experience.

Bugfixes are not Nerfs or Buffs. You got hits when the Survivor fast-vaulted which you should not have gotten.

But dont worry, they will either shadownerf them again or bug them again. It happened so many times already, fixed vaults are just not meant to be in this game.

I was gonna say from asking mclean about unrelenting being the wraiths weapon he told a story of how each character was supposed to have 4 teachables. Not 3. So wraith had his current 3 then unrelenting. They just never got around to fixing the picture. (He never mentioned the game testing 5 perk slots just 4 teachables)

Yeah, so it was even the other way around than OP is claiming - 4 was the intention, not 3.

  • @Lunairtic said:

You say that but the initial thought for characters was only to have 3 perk slots as that is how many perks ever single character has. They definitely added an additional perk slot as 3 was seen as too few at the time. Just like 4 is too few now. 5 is perfect.

How do you know what the initial Thought for Characters was? Any source for this?

Even in Early Access this game only had 4 Slots/Character.

  • No. Really, no.

It is easy said, but the game ís out for so many years with 4 Perks in mind. Adding a 5th slot will just be a lot of trouble.

Yeah, but those complaints were pretty stupid to be honest. Because people would have done Bloodwebs anyway. And they probably got way more BPs out of the use of those Offerings than they "wasted" with those they were not able to use anymore.

Laggy killers will still hit you though windows from a mile away it just makes normal killers less likely to get hits

Yeah, but that is nothing that can really be changed. It is a shame that you get punished for having good ping in this game.

  • Which would still not get you close to maxing out the Objective-category. I mean, there is a reason why Prove Thyself was played and it was not the Speedboost. It was the BPs. They could have just removed the BPs and it would have had the same effect, even without the Nerf to the Speedboost.

That being said, it blows my mind that they did not increase the amount of BPs you get for completing a Gen. You spend 90 seconds on it for measly 1250 BPs. Hitting 4 Great Skill Checks on a Gen is almost the same already.

yea but....what about the survivor side?

it's either they are gods at loops or too scared to do gens and can't do risky unhooks or even if the killer is barely around it.

I mean, they SHOULD also help Survivors. But from my experience so far, the Bot only helps the Killer by providing BPs and triggering Hook-Perks. They are barely useful (they even blow up Gens), and the game is still a 3v1 with them.

Did BHVR sneak in a hidden nerf, when they changed the fast vault distance? Changing vault distances shouldn’t actually affect hits at all, until the point where the survivor gets the small extra distance at the end of the vault.

Did killers just get another nerf, that’s disguised as a bugfix, even though I never saw it declared as a bug, and it’s worked this way for years?

"Did killers just get another nerf, that’s disguised as a bugfix, even though I never saw it declared as a bug, and it’s worked this way for years?"

I mean, if you really think that fast vaults should have the same distance after the Window as slow and medium vaults... You are really wrong on that one.

  • I mean, the Killer gets more points thanks to Bots. This is their main purpose I guess.

  • If it is intentional - I really dont know why they keep doing this. Making Event-Stuff super rare.

There was one event, I dont know which, where you got plenty of each in the Survivor Bloodweb and plenty of Offerings in the Killer Bloodweb. But before that there were events were you barely got anything. And if this is the case again, I would be really disappointed.

Because I cannot get behind the idea why event-stuff should be rare. Players should basically drown in them, they should have hundreds of Invitations after the event.

  • You will still lose most of your games, even if they nerf WoO.

Anniversary chapter is already flopped, even if it was not Alien people already stopped play Singularity.

Mainly because he is too difficult for the average Killer-player.

But I just think it is a weird decision to make a Space-Themed Chapter just to release Alien afterwards which will just make the Anniversary Chapter feel even less special.

  • Funny, I thought it would not be Alien. Mainly because BHVRs own Chapter was Space-themed, so I thought that it will not be Alien, because now it really overshadows the Anniversary Chapter since Alien is way above an original Space-Chapter.

So I really thought that they would have picked something different as Anniversary Chapter if Alien is the licensed Chapter.

But well, lets see how it plays out. As long as the Killer is fun and the Perks on either side are not shockingly bad, I dont care about the rest.

The main advantage of SWF is not voice communication.
