I don't think I can change from calling it rank. Rank is so self explaining, everyone knows what it is by the name alone.
Grade is... not.
I'm gonna have to practice saying iri grade both sides btw for balance arguments

We've not confirmed the exact date of the Chapter release, however, if it happens prior to the 13th of the month, you will be given the equivalent of your current Rank so if you're Rank 20, you'll be Ash, Rank 1 = Iri (for example). Which is the same as it was in the PTB.
Then on the 13th of the month, everyone will be sent back to the lowest Grade and you'll receive a reward for the highest Grade you achieved in the previous season.
*it's going to take me a while to get used to saying Grade instead of Rank!*
Thanks for letting us know ☺️

I thought it was made so you have general MMR that still allows you to get fair games even with killers you arent good at?
Aren't you both saying the same thing? They did mention test before last there's a more general one so if you're experienced with some killers but have no rating with others you'll get weaker opponents but not brand new ones.

They've already used demo's hitbox for Victor

No, it's not enough for most killer mains. Whatever it is, they need more. This game is intolerable as a solo survivor now. I've taken long breaks but I"m just about done for good. But I sure hope they nerf more survivor perks and items. Killers really do need more help.
You're never going to usurp Sluzzy's throne I'm afraid

And yet this would need her to not be hooked before all 5 gens are done so yeah I think it's fair she's rewarded for that feat
Yup, as well as getting the safe unhook ofc

A friend of mine often runs DS and deliverance and it gets her out the gates a surprising amount. It was also pretty funny seeing a Feng hit her with it when she was playing killer

Bit sus

You should probably just not farm with killers. Especially if it's a Myers.

Hope so!

Not all of us care about winning- I can take losses. I just don’t like being paired up with 3 bad players and be expected to carry them against either a) rank 1 nurse or b) rank 12 camping/tunneling bubba. A few of those games you literally don’t even get to play.
At least with the current system the majority of my games are decent and I have competent like-minded survivors who do objectives, as opposed to the potatoes I get for teammates during SBMM.
For me it's completely reversed. MMR on has generally given me great soloQ teammates who coordinate very well, do gens, last a decent amount of time in chase...
Quite a few even forced the killer to target them when they could afford to get hooked and the others couldn't, which is generally not a thing you ever see outside of swf.

But didn't u hear? He's amazing at the game, he just doesn't want to play against sweats 🙄
As a killer with 18k hours I don't see why I should be -punished- by not being allowed to play against an endless stream of megheads who got into red ranks for the first time last week.

I'm going to just say this one time, and one time only.
I've played my fair share of competitive sides of games; Overwatch, Smash Ultimate, even this game. I hate the competitive aspect of a game when there is no option for the fun aspect. Now Overwatch was the exception because it had modes that were made for the fun in mind, which I could appreciate, but Smash Ultimate's options were more limited in the online spectrum; I even attended actual offline tournaments before the crown hit, and I grew extremely bored of them very quickly despite placing high.
While Overwatch has plentiful options to have fun and unwind and Smash Ultimate is limited, Dead by Daylight has no option for fun play in the normal setting, especially when MMR starts to hit. That is my point.
And what results in a game starting to become more competitive is me growing increasingly bored and unwilling to play the game due to burning out on it. And with a game like Dead by Daylight, which has a homogenous game design for its characters and one of the single most boring gameplay loops I've ever had the misfortune of paying to play this game for, I've already started to burn out.
The MMR system is just going to accelerate it.
And you know what the kicker is? I know after MMR, this game is going to still remain piss easy even if I didn't decide I wanted to exploit the system to see what makes it tick. This game was fundamentally designed for children to pick up, play and still win, it's that easy.
Has anyone else ever written so much about their journey to becoming a smurf? It's not actually a new or interesting phenomenon.
-
Perks will be made general, Steve and Nancy are just skins. The real reason is demo, and if you think you'll ever want to play as it or not.

Then were the hell is the sense of progression? If you allways have the same winrate and there's no rank or MMR number to see if you are improving or not the game will die in the long run, because people want to feel like they are working towards something. Sure they will come to play for fun from time to time, but people won't be playing as much because everything will remain the same once you have grinded everything. If you want SBMM and don't want to kill the sense of progression we need to see ranks or the game will bleed players.
When has there ever been a meaningful sense of progression, apart from the grind? I've played since late 2018, just before spirit came out. The first time I hit rank 1 on each side both felt pretty good, I'll give you that. Since then...I'm red ranks both every month I bother playing a lot - most of us on here probably are.
Progression for me isn't told to me - I only recently started getting flashlight saves consistently. I went from my first game of blight where I didn't get a single hit and honestly wanted to ragequit to being able to pull off hits that make me cackle like a low budget supervillain. I don't need the current crappy system to improve, I don't need to be told whether or not my opponent is better than me, I usually know, and I don't usually care.
-
So let me see if I understand you. You are happy with a unique gamemode that doesn't reward experience in the game with either having a higher win rate than other people or being able to see people MMR and know if you are better than other people? I hope you at least agree with the second part.
I'm not certain I understand the first part. If you mean your winrate never really changes from being a newbie to an experienced player because you're being matched correctly according to an MMR system, then yes I'm happy with that. As to not being able to see your or others' rankings, I'm also fine with that.

It's funny that you mention Smite and Siege, 2 games with ranked and casual modes with completly different matchamking systems to make your point. I'm actually in favour of introducing a ranked mode and a casual mode, but every time I've mentioned this everybody puts their hands on their head: "This won't work! THE QUEUE TIMES!!!" 70k concurrent players, yeah queue times won't be an issue. "But sweaty players will abuse casual mode!! It's useless!". Then why all those games have at least 2 separate queues one with luck of the draw and other SBMM and it seems to work?
I know they both have casual/ranked modes because I've played them both (full disclosure, only experienced both modes on siege, smite casual only) which is why I think people put too much faith in split modes.
Casual modes are full of tryhards (in the sense of playing like it's ranked) throwers (it's casual, who cares about teamkilling or feeding?), smurfs (they like all modes) and the poor bastards who just want to play...casually who it was probably originally intended for
-
Damn this post is really raising some people's blood pressure, although that's the usual response to hag I guess
-
the worst affected by the SBMM will be the veteran players. On killer side they will have to constantly face strong survivors and on survivor side they will allways face nurse, blight, spirit.
This is how spoiled veteran players are by the current matchmaking system. What other game do you see people freak out at the idea of going against people at a similar level to them?
Get big into siege or smite or something, then go on their forum, discord, reddit etc and explain how you have a right to go against players with a few hundred hours in most matches when you have several thousand. You'll be laughed at.
And before "those are comp games, dbd is a casual one" yeah well almost all of the people who make this argument don't treat dbd as a casual game at all.
-
You decide that yourself. We all have different win conditions but you know if you've won a match or not right? I do

Totally agree with you.
Thanks for coming by!
Big streaks are an interaction of luck and skill, imo. I think Hag is up there with Nurse, Spirit, and blight, but I think a lot of the reason for it is that most survivors don't know proper counterplay. In making this guide, I hoped that I could bring some of what I learned to the survivors to help them in the matchup.
I know people hate playing as and against the Hag, but her counterplay can actually be really fun and rewarding.
I do normally hate playing against the hag but that's usually because they're the 10 traps around the hook/in the basement type.
Good hags are a usually fun match but way rarer than bad hags which are rare themselves
-
I barely see him, which is mostly a shame.
Mostly because I really prefer going against him as a swf, solo teammates tend to throw hard and all get slugged at 4 gens.
@notlonely said:
There's a very large amount of killers in the game right now so I wouldn't say he's as rare as ghostface, plague or nurse these days but he's not as popular as Nemesis for example
I see ghostface and nurse much more than oni and plague slightly more. I also see hag and demo more, I think I only see twins + billy less.
-
I'm betting you get sick of doing this after 2-3 matches

And those people don't matter?
I'm sorry for being concerned about my own experience in the game.
MMR benefits more players than the current system does. You matter as much a new player, a casual player, a mediocre player etc, but not as much as ten of them.
-
I'm inclined to believe it because postgrad students generally have enough to write without writing troll posts which rival Crime & Punishment in length.
I'm intrigued by the "egg tech", maybe I'll actually play some hag for the first time in over a year.

Honest question: do you guys here really still believe BHVR's lies?
They don't tell you what calculations are running in the background, because there simply are none. For all those years, people have complained about bad/unfair matchmaking, so I assume, BHVR again takes the lazy/incompetent way and just disable every matchmaking criteria while hiding the ranks. Tadaaa, no complaints anymore, because you don't know how good or bad your enemy was, you got quicker queue times and everything else is "super duper hidden mechanics". Pathetic
I'm fully aware of bhvr's love of pointless secrecy and silence. I'm not pro-MMR because Mr Developer says it's good, I'm for it because I played during the tests and it -was- good.

Maybe because I like it?
For example, there's a mid tier killer like Deathslinger, who is not that great but who is very fun if you are good with him
Now if you start going up with MMR you will get your ass kicked inevitably
What will you do now? Keep playing a weak but fun killer and lose every match or switch to a stronger killer to win matches on purpose, but that you don't like, like Spirit?
I personally couldn't stand getting stomped every game just due to a killer's limits, I should start playing a stronger killer or just stop playing killer
You're not going to be stomped every game. You play deathslinger, you win, you get stronger opponents. You win again, they get stronger, now you lose, they get weaker etc etc
On spirit your opponents will probably be stronger overall, but it'll be the same principle. MMR rankings go down as well as up, I don't understand why people think it only goes up and then you're going to be going against tournament swfs on trapper and getting 0ks until the end of time.
-
Damn I wish there was a SBMM for paragraphs

Maybe because experienced people realize how bad this will be ?
Some of the killer streamers and youtubers are clearly spoiled by being handed endless urban evasion squads to munch on while still paying more attention to chat. I watched one of the semi-popular ones last test when I couldn't get online myself and the guy was completely enraged at getting several 2ks in a row.
Then the ragequitting started.

Yeah you should've titled the post why spirit does/doesn't need a nerf and then sneakily added the interesting information after that
I appreciated it though I might try it :)

None which would be an issue if the developers actually balanced the game from the top down. Instead, they fix the game for everyone except the people who are really good at it in the form of MMR. Unsurprisingly, competitive games doing what SBMM does don't balance the game around the majority, because as shocking as it is, the majority aren't super affected by meta. It just results in a messy SOTG at high skill levels.
Which is true but the players at highest levels already exist in the matchmaking queue, running into each other occasionally but for the most part being offered up the rest of the playerbase as chewtoys. It's unhealthy for the game and terrible for new player retention, particularly on the killer side where new killers start having players with thousands of hours thrown at them, sometimes from literally their first match.
-
@Seanzu said:
ahhh yes, the thing that only benefits mediocre players, I can see why some are excited about this :)
Mediocre players, casual players, new players, which form the majority of players if not the vast majority. How many really benefitted from the old ranking system?
-
For the anti-MMR lot:
1) A very large amount of people seem to believe they are in the top 5% or even 1% of players. Statistically you probably aren't.
2) Winning in dbd is strongly affected by choices as well as skill. If you run the meta, bring the strongest stuff, slug for the 4k every game, get your swf to get on 4 different gens at the start of every game etc etc...then your concerns about only being matched up with "sweaty tryhards" don't make as much sense as you might think.
3) "I'll have to only play nurse, spirit and blight to compete"
You probably won't be getting tournament squads on your trapper. This ties into point 1. If you do, and can't handle them, you get kicked down a notch.
4) "Dbd at high level isn't fun" point 1 again and even if you are in the top 1%, skilled as you are you probably didn't get there by playing in a particularly chill way (point 2 again) and if you can't handle it...point 3 again.
-
On PS4 - pig, legion, spirit, hag, freddy, doctor, plague
PC - wraith, blight, nemesis, and plague again. Aiming for demo next

I mean, they added in a mechanic that 99% of the community didn't want, in fact I doubt they listen to the community at all. This MMR will make playing killers you are good with a pain because while it does get harder, it also becomes more BS with how unbalanced the game is.
It's definitely not 99% of the community who are against it. People have done polls and it's usually around 50/50
-
The option to have a crosshair for the ranged killers should be there.
Regardless of whether or not you approve of it (I'm personally unsure) PC players already have the option, which is allowed and generally not even detectable. PC has the option, console should have the option.
-
Spirit bugs usually get fixed pretty quickly...
-
Yeah if you're the last one alive, alternatively you can do it at the start of the match but you will be downed and trapped
I know pig is S tier but I can't really chuck away early game pressure -every- pig match for the memes
-
They should implement it, but I doubt it'll help much on current gen. Like for instance you'll be able to do an instant 180 turn as nurse after blinking which is nice but that would probably drop you to about 0.3 FPS so you still won't be hitting anything.
Might still help with huntress, trickster etc though

My guess is the combo will be nerfed as more killers use it. Plus it's a Blight and Spirit combo, it's buffing fast killers who already over-perform and hardly doing anything to the slow killers who under-perform. Blight and Spirit kill rates are so high right now, that perks that improve them will probably go on the chopping block. Just look at the Strider nerf. It was caused by Spirit.
where have you seen the current kill rates for blight + spirit?
-
In a weaker, toned down form I'd be up for it

Just play blight on swamp. You'll feel nerfed then
Ha, yeah. Still prefer it to ormond
On the other side blight's one of the only killers I'm happy to get meat plant on
-
Irritating on strong killers
Fine on weak killers
Makes me concerned they're going to end up nerfing blight instead of this combo, I'll be unimpressed if that happens
-
It's been a great addition to siege, it's interesting to see what led up to your death (if applicable, which for me it usually is) and what your teammates were doing in the meantime (which might be a mixed blessing)
They use a similar top-down view to the ones they use in esports, I think dbd tournaments are pretty silly but some people enjoy them and it'd be useful for spectating that
-
I guess blight is my mainest main
It's because I pretty much always have fun, I can lose but if I've got some spicy rush hits in I'm satisfied.
-
It is pretty annoying how nurse and spirit are exempt from a mechanic that severely limits build options
Don't get me wrong a lot of it makes sense, but it does limit build options a lot, like legion lost a lot of potentially fun perks (I used to like third seal on them) I think the devs think the community is a bit stupid sometimes when there's this striving for consistency.
-
Plague - vomit on the last hooked survivor or wildly into the air
Demo - open face up and hold it like that
Blight - bounce off the nearest object 4 times and then dart away
I've never really considered why I do it, gotta do something I guess
