  • I just watched a streamer get t repeated group after group of the sweatiest survivors using Ormund offerings and such before ending it because of that. You don't even get the opportunity to play nice in that situation. People who are dicks are always going to be dicks, an event isn't going to just automatically make a toxic community nice. I've had 4-5 cake stacks and ran into some of the sweatiest squads that had zero intention of being "nice" to me. Pretty ignorant to think an event is suddenly going to make a camper not a camper lol

  • Unfortunately they seem to prioritize maps looking "cool" and "immersive" over actual gameplay. Indoor maps kind of suck for 95% of the playerbase because most casual players will never find a gen. And it sucks for 100% of the killer community because it's one of the biggest maps, along with being an indoor map, resulting in it taking too long to weave around a maze to get to the direct point you want to go.

Again, gameplay doesn't really matter. But I mean it's fine since it's an amazing map if we're talking actually replicating the RE map. It just.. again, isn't the kind of map that fits the games theme by virtue of being a terrible gameplay experience.

Yeah, let's nerf wraith, and demogorgon, both mid tier killers. But nurse and spirit still get to exist for over 2 years in their current state.

How about we stop nerfing killers that don't need it, and start dealing with the things that do?

I see far more Wraith's than I do Nurse/Spirit, and even the ones I do see are generally not very good. Kind of like your argument.

  • If you buy a game because it has one of your favorite characters or from your favorite game, then you kind of get what you deserve. I'm not going to rush to play Fortnite because it has Jason in it.

  • Well, the condition for Mori's are that they can only be used when it's irrelevant and the survivor is death hook. Stands to reason, then, that a key should not be able to be used unless all of the gens are completed, or if the current remaining survivors are all death hook. Something along those lines, but you can do a lot of things, really. Just surprised they've done... nothing. Just more talk talk talk about something that takes a year to implement.

  • "Those of us that know how to use him." He's not complicated, there is nothing to figure out. He is a killer that can keep everyone injured, that is then nothing but a basic M1 killer - the easiest type of killer to loop. Therefore his only "strength" is managing to injure all 4 survivors, hooking one survivor, then camping them to take advantage of no one healing. But then all they have to do is heal one person, while another sits on a gen. You see where I'm going with this? He's terrible.

  • I don't think any killers power that functions the entire match should magically stop functioning, so I don't see why this isn't a thing.

    • Lucky Break's duration reduced from 70/80/90 to 35/40/45.

Yeah, it's also nerfed, so, those people clearly don't read patch notes.

Also, sound and sight is the killers most important tool, 90 seconds is a long time. You shouldn't be able to completely mask your sound and trackability with 2 perks. That is the definition of broken and it is why everyone complained and it is why it was nerfed. But evidently some people just aren't capable of understanding this game or critical thinking, they just think in terms of "killer whine lols" Of course those types of people are always the ones who complain about the things that aren't worth complaining about.

  • Some maps are too big, some maps have too many completely safe pallets, some maps have tiles that create ridiculous loops, some maps have specific buildings that are too strong, all of which combined result in massive wastes of a killers time, yes.

Maps should be smaller, loops should be more frequent, but mindgameable, resulting in the removal of bad survivors wasting a ton of a killers time with no real punishment to their teammates by holding ShiftW or just pre-dropping pallets, and killers with insane mobility or specific perks should then be tuned appropriately, as well as any survivor perks.

  • Until MMR exists and the obvious flaws in high skilled killers vs high skilled survivors shows, and the developers giving solo queue survivors more tools that SWF have, which will discourage SWF and encourage solo play due to the effects of MMR + default tools for solo queue, you won't see anything done to help killers.

But the far more likely scenario is the developers completely ignore high MMR games, nerf the 2 killers that everyone plays, and stick to making the games focus be on 95% of the community.

  • It's not strong, it's literally a "Run a bit further to find a gen that's open" perk. What it does it generally makes at least one survivor start to RUN to find a generator, which as a killer can let you immediately enter into a chase, which you could do without it and they went on a gen anyway. It does buy you some time at the start if the survivors don't immediately go to find another gen, but if they're bad survivors it can make a bit more of a difference if you apply pressure real quick, but if you're doing that chances are the survivors are already bad and thus you wouldn't of needed gen regression anyway. It can be amazing sometimes on some maps if the gens it locks of are on one side of the map and you can go setup on like Hag or Trapper on the other. And again, with a perk like Whispers, which is infinitely more useful ALL GAME, does the exact same thing, just not easily, or sometimes if they play immersed, even better.

I personally find myself defaulting to Ruin/Undying, or at LEAST Ruin these days, because I've lost far too many games to what I can very clearly tell are terrible, terrible survivors that are efficient at holding M1, and it ######### me on real big maps.

  • I think it's difficult for some game designers who do balance to be incapable of interpreting the differing types of data. If you can't properly take community feedback from casuals, from more top end players, from statistics, and your own first hand experience, and be unbias and balance around it, then you're going to have issues. I think if MMR was in place then the data they have currently, in regards to high level play, would very swiftly show those who balance the game the fundamental issues that many streamers have emphasized in their videos, but this data isn't relevant for 95% of the playerbase, so it's easy to see it as unimportant, should you be that type of designer. "Who do we make this game for, who buys it the most, who plays it the most, what ranks have the most people" Your problem when looking at statistics is you're not even considering these types of statistics. For example, most people who play on the PTR are often skilled players from PC, which is why a lot of PTR feedback is so often never, ever followed up on, until it hits live servers. You can bet that they wish everyone who plays on the PTR were their actual base.

  • Gens don't open until you enter into a chase with one survivor, be it by you initiating the chase or a survivor. The only issue with this is stealth killers or killers with undetectable, which I'm sure there are ways to work around, such as a chase being enabled by virtue of an invisible TR that is applied when a survivor enters into x distance of you. You could also get around this by putting a simple CI timer on it all gens, which allows survivors the choice to stay immersed until every gen opens up. This forces killer interaction and also encourages you to take some time to go for chests or totems, which means it's a benefit to the killer and the survivor, as Hex's aren't super uncommon.

  • I used to love playing Billy, and playing against him. Now, I never play him, and never see him. But, evidently, he needed to be nerfed when no good player thought he wasn't extremely well balanced. It's a classic case of bad players or developers misunderstanding a killer and nerfing them. I never thought I'd see the day where LF was the better chainsaw mans

  • SB and DH are two of the most busted, broken perks in the entire game. But for some reason no one wants to acknlowedge it and everyone pretends that they aren't. Why complain? They'll never change them. At least other Exhaustion perks have pre-reqs, these just reward you for making a mistake, playing greedy, and making the game look stupid because you're butt hugging a survivor to wait it out. Using it for distance or for the things I mentioned can extend a chase for a long time, and SB even prevents that chase from ever even happening in the first place. Zoom, straight to the safest pallet while you wait til the very last second on the gen. Zero fear. Zero care of positioning. Sit on the gen sprint away. Don't forget the super low CD for perks every survivor uses on a ridiculously low CD!

  • The only people who complain about BBQ are terrible survivors, of which are, most common, those who play extremely immersed and go down in 10 seconds in a chase.

BBQ has many soft counters, and even some perks hard counter it, like Distortion, or even simply running a perk like Kindred, to see if the killer looks at you. You also have perks like SB to get to safety. Locker. Hide behind gen.

All of these things don't matter to 95% of the playerbase, which are terrible at survivor. They don't realize it encourages a main point of the game: interactions with the killer. It encourages free saves for the killer to leave the hook and initiate with other survivors. It also punishes the killer should they not find you.

If you complain about BBQ without understanding these things then you are, in every aspect of the game, a bad player. Your weak argument of "buh buh I don't want the killer finding me due to another survivor getting hooked" is just that.

They're not counters. If you're stealthing, you might as well not be in the match, because you're not being productive and you're not running the killer. And sure, I can be tricky with my movement, but after fooling a Nurse once with that because she was testing for my skill level, there's no guarantee she falls for it again. She'll just use her precise mouse movements to react perfectly, and be given a generous hit by the game as usual.

Yeah, but you're not supposed to be able to juke any killer forever, and Nurse is one of those killers you'll never juke for super long if they're good. Most Nurse's are average at best, which makes them all slightly dealt with for a bit if you just break LoS and maintain distance.

You can still juke a Nurse far easier than you can juke a Huntress/Deathslinger, and at least a Nurse takes a bit more effort than most to get her hits. Most people just make excuses and are terrible at putting these things into practice, so they just scream OP.

  • Imagine wanting to change to account for something that very rarely ever happens. Then consider how slow regression is in the first place, 9.9/10 times is totally irrelevant. How does a post this dumb get to 7 pages? I mean with how common Pop is, it's very likely you'll be doing the killer a favor by tapping a gen.

  • Local troll makes it to 1468 posts where they do nothing but bait people and still isn't banned. More at 11.

  • The developers don't really care about people that will be high MMR. Like balance, they only care about making the game enjoyable for 95% of the playerbase, which MMR will help the most, not the 5% who will absolutely hate it because, surprise, this game isn't balanced at all at the highest skill levels. It's going to suck for both sides at high mmr.

  • @Zozzy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/235651/anybody-else-having-an-awful-experience-with-mmr

You are matched with the survivors the same "skill" as you. this is how it should be. Why should you get to pummel noobs who will not enjoy the game just as you are not enjoying having to try.

Survivors that are the same skill level of a really good killer, unless they're playing a top tier killer, will most always result, or very closely result, in a really easy win for all four survivors. It makes the game incredibly unfun and results in more killers at those ranks falling back to simply playing top tier same killers, and makes survivor suck due to it always being the same killers.

Sadly, unlike most games, the more "balanced" this game is in terms of survivors vs killer, the worse it becomes, specially for killer.

  • The only thing MMR does for this game is make everyone who is good at it not want to play it. It's a bit ironic developers who don't want to balance their game because it's a "survivor party game" and a more casual game have MMR in the first place.

  • A year later and they still can't quite get it right, even with it "running in the background"

I hope this never, ever, ever becomes a thing.

  • Only competent, often skilled, knowledgeable and very good streamers/players play on the PTB, and are also only PC. The same people whose feedback and suggestions for balance they've ignored for countless years. Their PTB is the main game where they can test it on party game casuals, who the game is, apparently, made for.

  • When they rebalance ALL the maps, make them smaller, and make more mind-game loops.

    Aka, never.

  • At this point in the game I also think it's time for P6 and some cool P6 cosmetics.

  • It's kind of the current situation.

Second chance perks + Slam gens above all else + Mediocre looping / Instra drop pallets + Shift W on massive maps

All of it amounts to bad survivor being capable of escaping a good killer, and if you think that it's bad now you can imagine what MMR will be like. It seems like the community is just as ignorant as the developers on the topic, though, and we pretend that it's fine because we so often run into such garbage survivors that shouldn't be at the rank they are at, that they skew statistics.

There's a lot of minor things we often overlook as well, like several nerfs to slugging make it really hard to do it for pressure like was possible. It's understandable since it isn't fun, but it took away a chunk of a killers power when they're losing, which in turn creates opposing pressure to tunnel/camp, which is also incredibly difficult because of second chance perks. We can take that a step further and say that it's a bit silly a perk like Unbreakable, when used, still gives you the benefit of faster recovery. That's just one perk but the point is there are a lot of little things in this game that make the big picture worse.

  • I used to play fair and let the survivor get hatch all the time for years, but the past however many months, or even year, this game has become increasingly toxic. I think it was due to the constant influx of new players to the game, and the exit of many older. The community used to be smaller, I ran into the same people often, there was a bit more respect for one another. These days it's just a bunch of toxic people on both sides, and there are even "influencers" in the community who actively promote being toxic with their litty Youtube content poggers.

To be on topic, I used to always give the last person the hatch. In at least half of my games there would be a scenario where I killed 3 people, knew where the hatch was, last survivor was, and they got absolutely destroyed fast. So I get up, get a drink, whatever whatever, come back. Person is afk with a crow as I wander around to wonder why the hatch isn't closed, so I can see them "win" by getting the thing I let them have. Something that already shouldn't exist as a pity escape when if I kill 3 of your teammates you don't deserve to escape anyway. That's one example, there's plenty more where people just get the hatch and teabag, or do the same thing in a similar way. This happened *a lot* but I generally just did what you'd expect; know that they're genuinely upset, lost, and want to feel some amount of victory in their stupidity. Fine.

Long story short, after 4 years of playing it made me realize that no one ever goes out of their way to be nice to me, to give me a free hook, to let me down them. It's always you used this perk, you played this killer, you did this, you can't do that. So now I slug for the 4k every game and I don't have any care for some "imaginary' respect of people I'll never run into in a community that has so many players. I guess my point in all of this is that if you run into enough toxic people you eventually become one, although nothing I do is inherently toxic, I'm just not being "nice"

  • Why is someone who does nothing but make troll and bait posts capable of making almost 1500 total posts not banned? Do we give "good" trolls who aren't totally obvious and fake ignorance passes here?

  • There is literally nothing you could do to stop people from camping in this game. They will do it whether you punish them more than they already are or not. Depip? You're doing them a favor. Less BP? They already get less BP for camping than they would if they just went around hitting survivors, bar them throwing the match.

    Does it suck? Yes.

  • Maybe not allowing a trap near x radius of the hook, but other than that you can't nerf her much. She had a buff to the range of her traps long ago because she was basically never played whatsoever and the only way people would play her is by straight up camping, as opposed to actually bothering to push out onto the map like now.

  • I've rarely ever met a survivor that went out of their way to let me hook them, or kill them, or any of the other things that you'd expect if maybe the killer is having a bad game. But hey, thanks to all the killers for being good guys :)

Killers who are "nice" make me kind of sad because they're the victims of what is the arbitrary survivor rulebook. I mean outside of not being a camper or tunneling at 4 gens and all. You're a nice guy until you have to deal with toxic players then you just kind of stop caring, regardless of the side you're on.

  • Wow, that's crazy that when most people IN YOUR REGION are sleeping, that you can't find a match.

This guy thinking that because 35k people are playing, that could all be in China/Australia for you know, that means he should get fast matches

  • I don't expect a 4k, but I expect when I'm playing perfectly and I can tell by how quickly survivors go down to me and how poorly they loop, that they shouldn't be winning against me. But evidently, they do, because holding M1 on gens and pre-dropping pallets makes it irrelevant how good or bad you are. I mean if bad survivors can do that, it's not hard to imagine what good survivors can do.

  • Apparently it would encourage "Bad killers" to tunnel, and "good killers" are good, so it's fine for them to do mental gymnastics.

Apparently. Though a bad killer won't really need to know how many times they've hooked people, because chances are they're probably only going to go after the same 1-2 people, so that entire ######### argument is irrelevant and it should be given to killers, too.

  • The developers seem to have a bit of an issue with counting when it comes to the number of survivor and killer challenges

  • It's just a game.

    You're an adult.

People who BM and are toxic are usually manbabies who never grew up, teenagers who are immature, or just stupid people trying to make you upset.

Be more objective with things. Maybe it's a bad map. Maybe the survivors got a great layout. Maybe they're just really good. Maybe you can think about what you could've done better. Maybe you shuldn't have committed to that one chase at x place. Don't make EXCUSES, but be reasonable.

Go into every game and don't think about winning, or the stress of having to do things. Just play, do whatever as best you can, and try and have fun. I know it's cliche but the truth is unless you make a serious effort to trick your brain into just not caring, there really is no secret that will magically make it go away without some concentrated effort on your part.

  • Because rank and pips matter in this game, right? If you pip you had fun, right guys? If something the killer/survivor does makes you depip, when often, camping in the killers case, might suck for one person but be a benefit to the other survivors if they sit on gens, we need to completely alter something.

  • What's amazing to me is how loud survivor footsteps are when you're playing survivor, and how loud the breathing/running is. But when you play killer you just can't hear anything. Whether it be the developers being horrible with sound, bugs, chase music or killer effects that blow your ears out vs others (Nurse, Chainsaws, PLAGUE)

It's always been horrible and Iron Will is one of those ridiculously strong perks that no one complains about because it'll never be changed. Most people don't understand why it is as good as it is and a lot of people just don't use it.

  • Ever since the Rift was implemented they've made zero changes to it whatsoever. They fill the Premium slots up with a bunch of garbage keychains and ugly cosmetics that are terrible in quality and worse than some of the full set cosmetics in the game.

Why don't they reduce the number of tiers so they can actually put quality stuff in it instead of garbage, then compensate by making the Rift take more exp to level up due to fewer tiers? Oh, right, because they want to make it grindy so that people are encouraged to spend more money to finish it.

If that's what they do to the Premium pass, you can probably imagine why the free one is total garbage.

  • @upsetelcor said:

Hilarious to see a (very obvious) survivor main complaining about a perk that is, most of the time, used primarily for bloodpoints. touch grass, this post is ridiculous

Well, if red rank survivors have taught me anything, it's that 95% of them are complete garbage, and the rest play with friends who are competent. If you apply that logic to forums, then 95% of the people who post in a place like this are, equally, as dumb. I would say they're trolling but when you have over 1k posts on forums, and you believe a perk like BBQ with a ton of counters and is overall healthy for the game, is OP, then I can't help but feel sorry for them

  • Lol. "I don't wanna hear ways to counter it!"

Locker. Distortion. Hide behind a gen. Run towards a pallet real quick. Hell, if a Blight is cross mapping you then he's giving a free save and freeing up total pressure from the rest of your team. Learn to loop in that exact situation and you'll be surprised how easy you can win.

I'm sorry, are you expecting them to balance this game around moronic survivors who are bad at the game and don't know these things? In that case why does DS, BT, UB, DH exist? It's not fair the killer can't know if they have those and play around them, and there could be FOUR survivors with them all. "Well, it isn't fair my terrible teammates don't assume/use the many ways to counter one of the most popular killer perks that every killer has!"

I mean, if you want to kill the game, you can balance it from the top down, if you like. Balancing Killers on the strongest SWFs would just result in the game being miserable for 99% of Survivors.

And if we balance for the Top Survivor players, we also need to balance for the Top Killer Players - so that Killers also have a miserable experience.

    Sound great.

There is not a single game that is even remotely competitive that doesn't balance from the top down. Balancing from the top down is fine because it also encourages bad players to learn to get better, which brings and even greater sense of reward and satisfaction for mediocre players who "git gud"

We can joke and pretend like this isn't a competitive game all we want, but it functions like one, so it is. If this were just a "casual" game then I'm surprised survivors care so much about winning or losing, but yet you are complaining yourself.

  • You can play a killer because they're fun all you want, but fun will only take you so far before you start to get bothered by the fact you're playing a weak killer and getting rolled each and every game. May as well play Huntress/Deathslinger since they're better if you're good at the game, and if you're bad at the game than this killer is also still worse for you.

  • I'm not offended by it. I really do not care or want sexuality to be a part of a game I play. I play a game for the game, not to roleplay the character I'm playing as being myself, and only playing x character because they're x gender. In saying that I also don't care if a character is gay, straight, or an alien that knocks itself up, but I still don't think it belongs in a video game. It's the equivalent of letting me know a character is a Republican. I don't care how they vote, about their sexual organs, about their sexual preference. Why would I? Maybe you have an argument for race, and impressions on younger people, like superheroes, but no one is going to be inspired by some random character in DBD.

But for those who enjoy the lore, well, it's kind of like those unnecessary sex scenes in movies you kind of wish weren't there, because you're there for the movie and story.

  • ...Yes they do? It's a 1v4 horror game, you should be afraid of a killer because they're strong or capable of things, not because they're weak or only fun because you're a survivor who likes easy wins and it's fun for you. "Fun" only gets you so far before you start getting annoyed of being curbstomped every game so you never play them again.

You could tell that to the hordes of people that, as soon as they know there's LGBT stuff in their game (other games of course, although this one at some point), they go nuts and start boycotting everything out of spite and because FoRcEd AgEnDa and that bs, lol.

I can somewhat understand wanting specific races in a game, but sexuality has no relevance to anything whatsoever. I have a lot of experiences with the LGBT+ community, and most of my experiences, similar to the opinions and statements by people in this thread, had done nothing but cause me to want as little to do with it as possible. LGBT+ these days has fallen into the same extremist issues that liberal politics has had happen to it, which has its own ties to the LGBT+ community itself, in that it's a small amount of people trying to make everything about gender, and trying to force ridiculous things onto people, but when you start to use their own logic against them, suddenly you just hate non-straight people. There's plenty of good, sure, but if you're bisexual and happen to have an opposite sex relationship, oh no you're just evil.

But sure, it does go both ways in that people who are racist or people who are offended by anything other than their own sexuality would complain about a character they main being gay or trans, but well, who cares about those people

  • I don't understand why people care about sexuality in a video game. Why? Why do you care? I don't care if a character is any color, race, sex, whatever, so I don't get why people always ask for it. I'm Asian and I don't play only Asian characters because it technically "represents" me. If no character has a sexuality, then you can roleplay every one of them as being anything.
