  • no. because not being able to pick the traps back up is not a good thing to be default.

he should still have all traps as default. and still no one can make a point against it that isn't just "I think trapper scary" but with different words or "he will do the thing he already can do by default, which isn't actually good, only a bit faster" which circles back to "scary"...

Give it up for number eight in a row. You'll never guess what happened after I got unhooked!

I'm done dude. I'm not even pissed off anymore. I'm just ######### done. Even though I ran this Chucky for two gens, his perks bail him out and I still get tunneled out, humped then mori'd.

My actions affect nothing. Any skill I showed amounts to nothing and only serves to make me feel worse. My teammates weren't even bad this time, Corrupt PR PGTW and Deadlock just absolutely destroyed any progress they could've made

    1:41 heh. that was great.

    Of course they show it.

They show how much they care about the game and its playerbase. The have a forum where people like you and me can talk with moderators and others, interested and invested into the game.

They provide PTB's where players can test upcoming changes and provide or discuss feedback.

They come up with fun and creative events for the players to mess around with.

They create more cosmetics for characters that got left out a lot over the last years.

They go back on certain changes because of peoples feedback.

Boiling everything down to certain events and leaving out everything else that happened and is still happening, is just shortsighted in my honest opinion.

I don't think those are fair.

    • it would be weird it there wasn't an official way to communicate with them. be it by forum or reddit/steam page or whatever... there used to be forums for everything, I used to be active in the death battle one of all things... this is normal.
    • the ptb is as much for them as it is for us. it's how they find the bugs they otherwise wouldn't because of sample size. and let's be honest... currently underutilized. they could be testing so much stuff there all the time.
    • subjective. but they do come up with events, not gonna argue on the fun and creative qualities because that's just opinions. mine is that they have ups and downs...
    • that praise can only be given, if characters get left out in the first place.
    • and not on others. both of those sometimes the wrong choice.

and it's also shortsighted to just ignore the criticism because "good was also done".

Sadly few people actually use the forums. Not the best reputation you know? I understand that they don't want to use the forum for something like that.

Popular social media sites work better for that. Furthermore, people like to just follow the gospel of their favourite content creator. They have all the rights to do that. But they should also be ready to face other perspectives. This is where I think this forum is strong. Gaining multiple perspectives on a variety of topics.

the blogs would be shared in all social medias, including reddit.

they don't lose anything by doing those.

and they already do blog posts for updates. what would be changed beyond the frequency?

they can just post somewhere else aswell... make the post on reddit, twitter, instagram, orkut... idc... just do them.

  • nope. I was like that but I just stopped feeling guilty at some point.

  • That's not a shot at BHVR, just an opinion.

    this however, will be.

that isn't youtuber C on that video. it isn't BigFanOfFranchiseX, it isn't just anyone... it's otz.

if any person outside of bhvr could be said to be the face of dbd, it's him.

he has, for years, put out an insane amount of content for dbd. be it simply playing the game to organizing, participating and casting events for it.

he puts what? an hour long video around once a week for dbd? sometimes way longer than that plus all the other ones? Many videos on, what's the best order to unlock the characters, what to focus on early, what killer should I play, tier lists, etc etc etc... I don't know how he manages it.

This is the type of dedication you cannot buy.

people get into, and continue playing this game... because of him.

people learn about things in and outside of the game... because of him.

All that while being one of the chillest guys I have ever watched, both on video and stream.

And bhvr managed to get that guy to lose his passion for the game? even partially?

not from his interests changing, not from the game changing in a way he dislikes, not from a new game release... no. simply because he can't feel the passion from the devs, just complacency. because he got tired of not feeling listened to. because he sees no point in continuing to give so much of himself to this game.

and can anyone tell him he's wrong? because I can't.

why is it so hard to like this game? it should be so easy... but I see stuff like this time and time again and I stop wanting to.

billy gets his rework, freddy stops existing and something else replaces him, killers ignored for years on end, sadako players losing what made her enjoyable for them, people STILL feeling motion sickness from clown but nothing is done, blight still making impossible turns and having his addons, where is the lgbtq+ representation that would come after david again? why is an fov slider taking so long? how is seeing perks on lobby gonna take years?... I could go on but I rather stop...

we literally see them going "we are looking into huntress" or twins, and half the people think they will screw it up and the other half think they MIGHT not. when did the most charitable position became "they got some stuff right so we can't say"? why is expecting them to get it right most of the time just not realistic? how is this the normal?

the development cycle for this game is both too fast and too slow. too much new content, too little fixes, reworks and updates. this is unsustainable, at some point, it will simply pass the breaking point. if it hasn't already.

    ok, rant over.

  • clown.

    just clown... f that guy.

other than that is just a playstyle thing and not the killer itself.

  • the instance is only partially correct.

you will cooperate more efficiently on swf, generally.

but you will also cooperate better as a solo, if you have the same info you would have as a swf.

the information gap matters. and probably matters the most.

altruistic players will be altruistic solo or swf. and that applies to any other type of player.

voice comms, or rather proper information, increase the efficiency of whatever you are trying to do. doesn't change what it is.

None of what you typed here matters. We can go back and forth, but at the end of the day, here is all that really matters:

    • (1) There is no SWF advantage that needs to be "balanced around" other than using external tools to communicate.
    • (2) DBD developers have explicitly enabled outside-game communications
    • (3) There is no way to detect whether players are using outside-game communications

If you disagree with (1) then this conversation is over, we will never see eye to eye.

Since (2), comms/SWF will not be removed. Since (3), any suggestion that aims to "balance" SWF by applying some sort of restriction, nerf, or penalty to them will hurt players who don't deserve it (see (1)).

Therefore, the only reasonable option is buffing solo queue by giving them more information.

    As for your points:

    • There is no point in discussing "advantage" over people lying or trolling. Your teammates should be playing to help you. This is a player issue. It is less likely in SWF, but not an "advantage" to be balanced around. Solo should enjoy that luxury too.
    • Doesn't matter if it is an advantage. It should not be "balanced" around when the alternative to make it not an advantage, is fixing an aspect of the game that needs fixing. Also, I did not say that you referred to it as unreasonable or put that part in quotes, do try to not take things that are not related to you personally. It is important to address points/thoughts from others in this thread and it's easier to do by including them in my replies instead of quoting every single person.
    • Again, no need to "balance" around an advantage that solo should have anyway. All platforms should be able to see perks/items/add-ons/offerings of teammates in lobby.
    • If you have an actual issue with SWF outside of outside-game communications, that is unironically a skill issue and/or "us vs them" mentality. You should not be seeing players being matched with those of equal skill who DON'T want to throw the game as an issue with SWF. Same with seeing perks, as it is something any solo queue team can coordinate beforehand (even console, excluding switch, if you add the player and send them a message).

except for the part that matters. which is, this is all an answer to you asking what was the inherent advantage to swf with just in game stuff.

I answered that question. everything you are saying is some other conversation you think we are having.

for (1), "needs to be balanced around" is just a meaningless nebulous term to use. what gets balanced around is whatever the developers decide. there isn't a specific metric we can use. it will mean whatever we want it to mean as long as we can make our argument around it and just continue to move goalposts.

so can we just not use that and be practical? YOU don't think it needs balancing. it's not inherent, just opinions. always has been. which is fine.

    want my opinion? actually ask.

(2), allowed. not enabled. it would also be essentially unnenforcible if they didn't allow it.

(3), yes there is. it's quite simple actually... just kinda pointless and too much work to keep relevant.

Since (2), comms/SWF will not be removed. Since (3), any suggestion that aims to "balance" SWF by applying some sort of restriction, nerf, or penalty to them will hurt players who don't deserve it (see (1)).

there is no comms to be removed, they do not have it in game. unless you are counting chat for some reason... also, who is seriously asking swf to be removed here?

and (3) does not lead to that conclusion whatsoever... even if you were right in the premise, which you are not.

There is no point in discussing "advantage" over people lying or trolling. Your teammates should be playing to help you. This is a player issue. It is less likely in SWF, but not an "advantage" to be balanced around. Solo should enjoy that luxury too.

-being able to thrust your teammate is not an advantage? also... some people are simply bad at judging their own skill level.

-my only point is that it is an advantage. who are you arguing against?

-why are you bringing up balance so much?

-you should ask for my opinions on stuff before putting words in my mouth. again.

Afraid? No. Going to be highly annoyed if its on? Yep. If we wanted to listen to people yell at us for stupid reasons we'd go back to our jobs so we'd at least get paid for it. And if we mute them, it will cause the "children" (we have a better term but it would be censored) to lash out from being ignored and cause a whole other case of head aches. EVENTUALLY it may peter out, but until that time (and we're betting a good while), its going to be a lot of grief for us thats pretty much unnecessary. If Texas chainsaw is a model to go by, we DEFINATLY do NOT want it.

Our personal bets on how people react aside, its because a negative to playing with friends will disincentivize (love dictionaries) people from playing with friends. Some players only get on TO play with their friends and adding a penalty is more likely to make those ones say "not worth playing" than "ok sure". In general people think negative = bad (and to be fair thats usually smart). That said we do acknowledge in the end it does not matter how it gets there, but it will be a painfully spikey path to reach that end going the stick route with the added possibility of loosing enough players to harm the game.

If you could please define these extreme cases. Is a duo extreme? Trio? A squad of ppl BSing and singing christmas carols (good times)? Is the punishment strictly for 4 man squads, cause we know a trio who can give the killer a run for their money if they wanted to.

idk... why do people always ask for the full plan when you are just giving ideas or pointing things out?

what do you think an extreme would be in this case? why do you need it spelled out?

it's a survivor team, that is too effective. that is all. it's the obvious thing isn't it? how we reach that criteria may not be simple, but the criteria itself is.

could be as simple as a formula like G/(T*H). where G is gens completion, T is time and H is hook stages +1. if the result is ever bigger than X, then something triggers to maybe slow the game down a bit.

We make X big enough to basically only happen on survivor teams that really rush those gens, and there we go.

it's also independant of it being a swf in this case... if it triggers in solo q, congrats.

    • Knowing the general skill level of teammates: not really a SWF thing, you can view profiles or ask. If matchmaking was fixed, then every survivor would generally know their teammates are around their skill level, or could ask in pregame chat/check profile.
    • Won't give up on first hook: increasing softcap/fixing MM also fixes this. I agree that this is technically an advantage, but I don't think playing with people that won't throw the game should be considered any sort of unreasonable advantage of SWF. Everyone should be able to play with teammates that aren't going to throw/troll.
    • What they usually bring: technically an advantage, but depends on the group, also you can ask in pregame chat. There really should just be a pregame menu to show teammate perks like DBD mobile has, and this would be a nonissue
    • Their playstyle: this is an advantage, but not one I think needs balancing around.

The only reasonable issue I can see someone having with a SWF is the ability to use outside-game communications for an advantage. And there is no way to punish/balance around that, without also negatively impacting people who aren't using those tools or don't gain any significant benefit from it. Which is why the better solution is give solo queue players more information and tools like I talked about above, as well as improving matchmaking, and buff the weaker killers.

-ask? people lie. profiles never tell the full story. it is very much something that comes from playing with someone you know.

-is MM fixed? because until it is, still an advantage. which I never called unreasonable. do try to avoid putting words in my mouth.

-there is no chat on console. that's a pc advantage. You should stop using features we don't have as solutions. we do not see what people bring, there is no chat on console. It's an advantage you have on swf. always has been.

    -so is the other 3.

you need to see better then.

  • @jmwjmw27 said:

I'd also like to ask what this theoretical, "not a punishment but a nerf to bring them to the same level" would be?

A long, long time ago, I memed around with a survivor I found in one of my lobbies, they were a console player. After the game they sent me a friend request. I've never been on a voice call with them. Sometimes when they are online, they will join my lobby and invite other friends of theirs too, and we play some games. What advantage am I gaining in this scenario? I don't communicate with them at all, and aside from knowing they are a good player who loves altruism and kindred, I know nothing else about them. Their teammates don't seem to ever be on comms either. Despite this, now if I want to play with a friend I made, I am punished because of this system you are proposing. Why should this be the case? If MMR and matchmaking actually worked, I should be paired with survivors around my skill level anyway, so it's not like inviting similarly skilled players into my lobby is an advantage. If there clearly isn't an advantage here, then it would obviously be unfair to punish me for playing with a friend. There's also no way to determine if survivors are actually using external communication like voice calls, which are explicitly allowed by developers anyway.

Another scenario, I have a group of 2 friends who I introduced to this game, both of them are very casual. It is already hard enough to get them to play because of the disparity in our MMR and the abundance of tunneling right now. If this change is implemented why should I even invite them to play with me, knowing I'm not only giving them a sweatier killer, but debuffs on top of that?

It is not realistic to look at this game and conclude that using the in-game feature to play with friends should provide a nerf or debuff.

knowing the general skill level of who you are playing with, what they usually bring, their playstyle, how altruistic they are, etc...

and of course, you know they aren't likely to quit on first down/hook.

all of this is an advantage over solo q. do you disagree?

we can argue over how much of an advantage it is later if it matters...

  • @Rulebreaker said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3607518#Comment_3607518

Then please make a suggestion that doesn't add a negative to playing with friends or in game voice coms. We're all for buffing survivors if it's reasonable but many (ourselves included) do NOT want to add in game coms for previously listed reason.

    why?

why can't it be a negative? just in general. a buff just to solo q will get the same hate as swf won't get the buff.

if solo q and swf end up on the same level, and the game is properly balanced around it, what does it matter if we got there with a buff or a nerf?

in a specific, why can't it be a negative in the same vein as the anti face camp mechanic? where it only triggers in the more extreme cases?

Theoretically, killers with a great headset can hear survivors through walls and pin point their location. Killers without that can't do that normally.

Should therefore all killers have the option to see survivors they can hear in a small radius via aura read or killer instinct?

Absolutely not in my opinion, because it robs survivors of crucial mind game potential and therefore skill expression.

This is a great example to how difficult it is to decide what's acceptable as accessibility and what goes too far.

what you said is a terrible example.

killers should get accessibility options just like survivors. yes or no?

gonna assume you are not a terrible person and answered yes... so instead of saying dumb examples of overpowered things, let's use our time and effort into suggesting and talking about things that we think are actually viable.

like, a small foot symbol appearing in the general direction of the sound. or a small arrow like the ones from the xenomorphs tunnel. the symbol can be more or less "solid" based on distance or how loud it should be. and/or use distance from the center of the screen to indicate one of these.

a gen that you should be hearing being worked on should get a certain symbol indicating it aswell, same if it's not being worked on but not regressing. and a different one for regressing.

these 2 things seem pretty fair to me and should not be an issue.

your argument from "the mindgame potential". is it a mindgame potential? if I should be able to hear the sound and pin point your location, then it's not a mindgame, you are just taking advantage of the fact that I can't properly hear you.

I don't see the difference in this from you just turning my screen off for a second while you run. it's not game mechanics, it's just taking advantage that I'm currently not receiving the full information I should be receiving.

imagine this, we are playing chess.

because it's chess, we know all the possible things that can be made.

but then at some point you look away from the board, I notice that, and I play my move.

you look back and ask me what I did, but I don't tell you.

this leads you to lose the game because you could not properly prepare to what I was doing, you were too late when you realized.

this to me is the same thing. it's not game mechanics being used, it's not mind games, it's not skill expression. your opponent lacked a critical info that by the rules of the game they should be getting, and you are taking advantage of the fact that they lack it.

in this case, they lack an expensive headset or they are hard of hearing. congratulations? such mindgames, much wow?

  • not cheating.

    would be nice.

Just as a bit of a rant, when I first started this game, I tried playing Trapper, since he looked like he was supposed to be the beginner character...

...and then stuff like this happened, all the time. If I tried placing traps at narrow spaces, I would be slightly off and survivors could just hug a side. If I tried placing traps at windows, then it was always slightly off, and depending on how fast a survivor was vaulting the window, they could bypass the trap ...Sometimes I tried placing traps at undropped pallets, just to find out that if a survivor dropped the pallet they could bypass the trap, and I couldn't find a place where a single trap would work at an undropped pallet, and still work if the pallet was dropped.

If Trapper is supposed to be a "beginner" character, then he's an absolute failure, because the amount of game knowledge required, and the amount of pixel perfect trap placement required, is way way way too much for a beginner.

Yes, I do think traps should be large enough that beginners should easily be able to block a narrow path with a single trap. Yes, I do think traps should be large enough that beginners should easily be able to block a vault or pallet (regardless if the pallet is dropped or undropped) with a single trap. And if this means the actual model of the trap needs to be made larger, then that should happen. I honestly have no idea how Trapper is supposed to be fun or fair for beginner killers, when it involves constantly watching survivors run straight by their traps, and not get caught, because "technically the survivors didn't go through the trap".

and then you gotta learn where the map collision is wonky so the trap goes under the floor so you can actually hide them. and hope the survivor doesn't also know (which most won't... who learns these things and commits them all to memory but trapper players?)

    @Peanits said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3590874#Comment_3590874

So this is also a little bit more complicated than it sounds. In order for it to not teleport to a survivor who didn't step on it, only the center of the trap (the actual trap bit) sets off the trap - the springs won't trigger it just like an actual trap. Since this part of the trap is only about a third of the trap's total width, the amount the 'danger zone' grows is only a fraction of the entire trap. Something like a 10% increase would only make the 'danger zone' marginally bigger, you'd still need to place it carefully. They can also only be scaled up so much before they appear comically big and require a whole new set of animations. It's also not really a perfect solution since making the traps larger has the side effect of making them even easier to spot and even harder to hide in small patches of grass.

but this game doesn't thrive on realism... I think it's fine if the corners of the trap triggers it to help in scenarios like the op. we can sacrifice some real life trap accuracy for the sake of gameplay here.

like... how big are the hatchets hurtboxes compared to the model again? freddy has the same meele reach as every other killer right?

this would mostly help begginers. who picked the game and decided to play trapper and don't know the advanced geometry required to block a door frame with a bear trap.

or the weirdly precise distance from a window to place a trap.

  • true. but I still rather not. also I'm afraid of leaving bits of "tape glue" on my tv and having to clean it.

It's a huge advantage over solo, sure. But is it as hugely advantageous over killer as EvilBarney seems to believe? No. Just as not all solo's are baby survivors, not all swfs are good at communicating. The assumption is that all swfs are 4-mans, but the reality is that the majority are duo's.

it is insanely advantageous in every single match at all skill levels. and will always be. just stop pretending it isn't, there is no point.

doesn't matter if it's a 4-man, duo... the ones with comms, have a huge advantage.

I'd say punishing people for being bad is more ridiculous.

You can't force people to play. You can't force people to try. What's next? You want to ban people for doing Archives? Maybe you just want to ban all players who run No Mither?

    it would be.

but suiciding on hook should just not be a thing. you leave the game by quitting. life happened? there you go.

that was the point op made. or the point made slightly below op... not sure..

and honestly... I don't see the point of suiciding on hook. it might help in those few cases where you want to let you last teammate have a chance at hatch, but probably won't.

  • @UndeddJester said:

In a similar player behaviour on hook note...

For some reason I like it when a player tries to do non-fatal self-unhook attempt as I'm about to get to them safely... it costs me unhook points if they actually succeed, but for some reason I just enjoy watching the animation...

Kinda feels like you race in save someone who is genuinely dying/struggling to get off hook and escape I suppose...

Also is just an acknowledgement of 'I see you!' 😅

someone does that to me, I leave and return after they reach stage 2. they apparently can handle themselves, so I let them.

I wouldn't say everything from before Hag. Mikey's is before Hag and I love his mori.

ok... maybe not all of them.

just early killers in general. I believe doctor came before hag too and his mori is mostly good. just wish the eyes actually melted

Clown actually does have something in place to help with motion sickness. A little crosshair appears when intoxicated so you can focus on that and reduce motion sickness.

does it? never noticed it. I'll pay attention next time I see clown.

I don't know how much it actually helps since I don't get motion sickness from it... but hope it does help those who do.

Not saying I don't belive you but its strange how many killers always have problems like this when they want something to be changed:

    Epilepsy attacks because of flashlights

Feeling dizzy or sick seeing the post hit animation

Now is autism if they hear too many notifications.

Maybe you are telling the truth. But the community here lies so mucho to get what they want that I am more than skeptical.

kind of a ######### up thing to say... not gonna lie.

is it really easier to believe someone is lying over "flashlights quickly blinking trigger epilepsy attacks in me"? you know... the thing commonly known to trigger epilepsy attacks?

Photosensitive epilepsy is when seizures are triggered by flashing lights or contrasting light and dark patterns. Photosensitive epilepsy is not common but it may be diagnosed when you have an EEG test. Flashing or patterned effects can make people with or without epilepsy feel disorientated, uncomfortable or unwell.

at this point sensory overload is quite well researched. is it really weird someone might get it from several loud noises that keep happening?

Sensory overload is associated with several other health conditions, including autism, sensory processing disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and fibromyalgia.

There are many different things, or combinations of things, that can trigger sensory overload. They include:

    • crowds, or tightly packed spaces
    • loud sounds, such a loud music, fireworks, a crowd, a festival
    • strong smells
    • unpleasant touch—for example, things that are itchy or scratchy, rough, too hot, or cold on the skin
    • sudden or unwanted physical contact
    • drastic or sudden changes in light, temperature, or sound
    • emotionally charged situations or groups of people.

like... grow an empathy bone somewhere.

  • change everything from before hag.

they all require upgrades in some way or another.

the fact some killers don't use their power on their mori is a crime. this includes trapper not using a bear trap, wraith not using the bell and huntress not using a hatchet.

Yeah that's a good point. A similar thing happened when people pointed out flashlight clicking was an issue for epilepsy and they reverted the wiping animation update when it caused motion sickness. And they are adding an FOV slider for that same reason.

So they do care about accessibility and hopefully this thread does get their attention.

    in a way, yes.

but, afaik, they are also aware that clown causes motion sickness. and nothing has been done about that.

The problem with Predator is he isn’t your typical “killer”.

They hunt for the love of it, not for evil intentions. In Alien VS Predator, Scar (the main Predator in the movie) saves the heroine multiple times, including impaling the Queen Xeno through the head with his spear at the end.

Not exactly the actions of an inherently evil creature.

except when they do... not all of them are honorable killers. including some of the ones we see in the movies.

    @Xyvielia said:

DBD goes against Predator’s code of honor

    …they don’t kill the unarmed.

While I understand Disney (or whomever) would license it, the sense of defamation against such a upstanding character trait of this beloved icon is kinda extreme, and imo degrading.

Predators kill for sport, not because The Entity puppeteers them around a realm; not just killing unweaponized Survivors, but forcing them to do so in unsportsmanlike fashion by cold blood killing, merely to appease her. Everything about this idea completely goes against their race’s or tribe’s principles.

Just seems wrong and unfair to the Predators and their ancestry to be forced into this game.

Money is the corporate language, tho😔

    again, except when they do...

they are hunting with insanely superior tech. it's so unfair that they even pretending to be honorable is kinda laughable.

"so I had this very honorable kill, I was fully invisible and one shot the guy who had no idea I was even there with my plasmacaster. The friends of the guy got kinda pissed so I very honorably ran the ######### away while they fired at the forest. a lot. it's ok, I jumped this other guy while he was distracted and had no back up, in a very honorable way of course"

"upstanding character"... they are big game hunters. they just create rules to have some amount of challenge and/or fun and have basically no real issue breaking them when they see fit.

I like the yautja too, but let's not pretend like they are some paragon of morality here. they literally do the fps thing where someone throws a grenade at their own feet so the opponent doesn't get the kill.

  • 0. Since I have no character that is p100

but I don't think I ever had 4 people in my lobby that were p100 either... I pay barely any attention to it.
